Hi-Fi Rush.
Revealed during some showcase Xbox was having that day, this surprised literally everyone when we learned that it was available right at that moment. No marketing. Any nay-sayers were immidately shut up because the game was right there to play. It was a real ballsy move.
Due to how Forspoken soured any attempt at comedic writing in video games around the time, i immediately turned off the trailer for this game the moment i heard "Yup, that's me." My attitude would quickly change after pressing the play button by accident again.
I had an extra code for 2 months of Xbox game pass (christ this is a good service) & downloaded it when it was available. Immidately starting the game, i'm introduced with a well animated intro cutscene that seamlessly transitions to the beautiful cel shaded visuals.
At this point, i realized that everything in the world is synced to the beat. the player character's footsteps, his jump (if you can time it right) and almost everything working in the background. After stepping out, i truly recognized how much style this game got.
For one, the character design & art. Look at this!
Everyone's has a look that i would see at 6:00 PM on Teletoon. Everything that happens makes me think of something that would be written by man of action. Makes me think of Slugterra. Storm Hawks. This type of Disney XD Awesomeness character design is distinct and it blew my mind to see it return in such a fashion. I don't see it that often and i hope this inspires more to look into it. I know it did so for me.
The presentation is some of the most consistent and high quality i've seen in a video game. I felt the same wonder i felt seeing the Lego Movie for the first time while running through this. The animation, both 2D and 3D is outstanding. Hi-Fi Rush likes to flip between the two on a dime, without warning. The cartoony artstyle and how they utilize it is exceptional. Radical color changes, motion lines, visible effects straight out of a comic book, expressions that snap on a dime, allowing for gags to be easily pulled off with little use for realism logic. The cutscenes like to jump to an fps of 24 to keep it up. The sound effects and things that happen within them are all to the beat. There is an insane amount of detail and polish here. This is a playable cartoon, through and through. There's very little to break the illusion they're selling you. There's even animation of both Chai and 808 messing around as you transition to the other part of battle. They don't have to do that, but they did. There's so much love in this project. I see the vision and you will as well. I played the entirety of this just in awe of what i was looking at. This is what happens when you let creatives just. go wild.
As RANK10YGO put it, everything about this game feels like a can of Fanta on a hot summer day.
The combat is masterful. I hear that people that were involved in some of the greatest character action games were on this project. You've got parrying, movement, and allies that you can swap in to extend combos and disarm specific enemies. The combat isn't really deep, but good lord is it fun. Also, take all of that and put it to the beat of the music.
Exciting camera work, explosive effects, an energetic UI, voice acting that gives everyone life, everything on the screen is moving. All to the beat of Shuichi Kobori's glorious compositions. This is the exact stuff my mind dreams up of when i space off.
The boss fights are absolutely jaw dropping by the way. You think it's gonna go the way you think it is, but it doesn't. It's something different every time, some of them aren't even fights!
Even after finishing off the great story, i unlocked some extra features and a postgame that encouraged me to play again on harder difficulties. Character customization, a model viewer with a wealth of character information & a music player was immediately available to me. Most AAA games like to lock that content behind DLC or pre order bonuses. I thought i was missing out on not getting the deluxe edition. but i felt like i wasn't. The game isnt really that long as well.
It's clear that this game was designed with fun in mind. Profits probably came second, but Tango Gameworks clearly wanted to create something fun and memorable. This is a title that i would've seen in 2010. Not 2023. I had not one bad experience going through this title. It felt like there was absolutely no corporate meddling, nothing holding the team back as they developed it. This shit is what dreams are made of. It's been years since i've been taken in and enamored by a video game like this. I had so much fun. I love Hi-Fi Rush with all of my heart. I'll never forget this.

ok so now that we have the playlist you must give us the scarlett summer state of the union!
THANK you for asking. i’ve thought VERY long and hard about this and in true massie block fashion i’ll give both what’s in and what’s out.
IN:
midi/maxi skirts, but mini dresses. maybe it’s because i wear midi/maxi dresses all year long & i can swap up the midi/maxi skirt look w a tank-top or something but i LOVE a mini dress in the summer. all sundresses rock though.
sunscreen. put it on. every day. MULTIPLE times a day if you’re spending a lot of time outside (which you should)
walking two hours MINIMUM a day. this can be around your neighborhood, but if you have the opportunity to get some sort of state park/national park pass you def should. AND BRING A FRIEND!
tinted chapstick/lipbalm. i like the burt’s bees kind in the color rose.
sweet/floral perfume. my go-to perfume remains miss dior (just had a seventh grader stop me during work time to tell me it smelled good every time i walked past his table)
BIG salads. with a variety of vegetables and a variety of colors and some kind of grain (i like salads with rice noodles in them) & some sort of protein (i like salmon and tofu)
trash books. this does not mean they’re BAD they’re just like candy for your brain. romance novels fast-paced thrillers and young adult books you can finish in an hour. spring is for hefty classics, summer is for lucy foley
ALWAYS have vegetables & fruit cut up in the fridge for easy snacks. i also suggest having hummus on hand always for vegetables. i also always have chips and salsa available.
FARMERS MARKET! go to one.
linen pants. they are so breezy so comfortable and perfect for june
matching pj sets. perfect for sleepovers which are perfect for making summer feel like it did when you were a kid.
mojitos are my go-to summer cocktail but mocktail wise, a mint lemonade or soda w/ mint and lavender is also fun.
tinted moisturizer or skin tint + liquid blush is my fave combo. i have not found a better liquid blush than rare beauty’s (i wear the shade happy). i literally do not think i will ever run out of this blush. i usually use drugstore brand foundations/face products
lighting candles in the morning as you’re getting ready. like a middle aged woman i prefer the bath and body works candles but i will get any scent that’s fresh like a clean linen candle <3 i get the same scents my grandma used to
OUT:
the idea of a base tan. do NOT go out without sunscreen just to get tan. be nice to your skin.
the idea of ‘clean eating’. it’s fun to eat more veggies & fruits in the summer that are in season but this makes me feel icky.
the concept of a ‘hot girl walk’. booooo summer is not about. being hot except like, literally. go on the walks bc they connect u to the people u love and to nature.
dressing in a way u don’t like just because it’s ‘on-trend’. i don’t like mini skirts, i’m not gonna wear mini-skirts. in summer especially it’s more important than anything to wear clothes you’re comfortable in.
anyone but me having a birthday. booo!
having parasocial relationships online. the weather is nice, go outside with real people.
BRAS!!!!

The Original Sailor Animamates! I’ve been working on these ladies for a while now and they’re finally done! Rather than redesign existing characters I wanted to elaborate on characters that were mentioned in the manga but never got proper designs. As always, species and design notes under the cut
General notes Shoutout to Myusse on Deviantart, their original animamates designs were a big inspiration to me
So the Animamates are kind of the least coordinated group of villains in the entire SM canon? Not a criticism, by-the-by, I think it makes sense when you consider that these are basically randos Galaxia plucked out from all across the galaxy. They’ve got two elements that all their designs share; the galaxia cuffs, and that each of their outfits features a gold star. However, I think the star is too common a motif in canon to really be specific to Galaxia (For example, literally all the eternal senshi designs have one) SO! I thought, what if the star is a popular symbol throughout the galaxy, and each planet their own addition to the symbol to make it unique? In this sense, when Shadow Galaxia’s animamates swore themselves to Galaxia, rather than gaining a symbol unique to them, they had their homeworld’s symbols stripped of individuality. Another note is that Galaxia’s animamates each stole their planet’s sailor crystal/starseed. Because of this I envisioned them to be kind of wearing someone else’s power ie sailor suit. My process for designing each of these was to take the designs of Galaxia’s animamates and work backwards, creating characters with similar elements but still making them distinct. Individual notes Sailor Chuu! Representative of the planet Chuu, homeworld of Sailor Iron Mouse. Side note, Iron Mouse is an interesting case as while she has mouse attributes, we never see if she can actually turn into a mouse the way that Phobos and Deimos can turn into crows or Luna can turn back and forth from a cat. I’d assume she (and Chuu, by extension) can, but we’ve got no evidence to back that up. I kept a lot of the same elements from Iron Mouse, gold beads, fluffy cuffs, ribbons, and what seems to be a structured, boned top. Because I designed Chuu to be notably younger than her evil counterpart, I swapped the panties+tights combo for a more kid friendly pair of puffy bloomers. Color-wise IM is JUST black and white, so I went for a more natural, mousy brown accented with a soft pink and cream color. I’ve given her an identical circlet/tiara, and an original brooch shaped to vaguely resemble a mouse head. Sailor Mermaid! Rep of the planet Mermaid, homeworld of Sailor Aluminum Siren. Her legs can turn into a tail because you can’t name a character “Sailor Mermaid” without giving her a mermaid tail, obvi. Again I’ve carried over several elements from her counterpart; flowing fabric, crisscrossing ribbons, shells, long flowy hair, and small wing ornaments that I can only assume are meant to be a reference to the Ancient Greek concept of sirens as women with bird features. As AS is pretty much all blue and purple, I shifted that to more green/turquoise palette, with purple, pink, and blue accents. I kept the structure of her top similar, but made it slightly more conservative with the inclusion of a sheer panel covering her stomach. I’ve taken the wing ornaments and converted them to a hair accessory. Her star is actually a small jeweled starfish, and I’ve given her more pearls in addition to the ones on her necklace.
Sailor Coronis! Coronis is unique amongst the animamates in that we actually see her! From the back, but still. We know she has a choker, short dress, and seems to have dark, straight hair similar to Phobos and Deimos. Along with Lead Crow I also included elements of Phobos and Deimos’ human outfits. Her outfit is one the simpler of the animamates, with star and feather ornaments, black straps/ribbons, a simple dress, and few pieces of jewelry. Because Lead Crow is overall rusty orange/brown, red, and black, I used primarily a cool toned dark blue and charcoal, with her eyes and lips being a bright red. Her earrings are similar to her counterparts’, except with a mirrored triangle bead, and gold to match the rest of her jewelry. She has a simple gold star circlet with feathers behind her ears. Her brooch resembles a simplified crow’s foot in addition to the gold star. Sailor Mau! Mau is a planet of cat-shifters, who spend most of their time as cats but can shift into humans in emergency situations/with a large influx of magic. I headcanon Mautians to be exclusively “domesticated” cat breeds ie no big cats. (A very silly headcanon of mine is that Earth is the only planet that actually got around to domesticating cats, so the only cats in space are Mautian. Aliens are very confused by Earth cats) Sailor Mau is based off the Egyptian Mau, thought to be the oldest cat breed in the world. Her hair and crown are meant to slightly resemble Ancient Egyptian accessories, as well as her gold earrings and tail cuff. Her Sailor Crystal takes the form of a cat’s eye gem, featured prominently along with a gold star on her crown. Her outfit has similar straps to Artemis’ human outfit, with boots resembling Diana’s. It’s primarily white, to contrast with Tin Nyanko’s primarily black suit, with pale orange accents and bells. Sailor Cocoon! Last of the bunch! Cocoon is a planet of butterfly/moth humanoids. She’s a trans girl because metaphor, and i made her more insect-like with segmented limbs and compound eyes. HMP’s wings resemble blue swallowtail wings, so I went with a similar shape in a different palette. Her outfit is based off of samba dance costumes, with a highly jeweled bodice, dark leotard, and sheer skirt. HMP’s outfit is primarily blue, magenta, and purple, so I went with a complementary palette of vibrant orange, green, and yellow. Her tiara is delicate green filigree, beads, and jewels; at the center of which is a golden star with orange butterfly wings.

GX Month Day 21: “Crystal Bond”
Everyone has a special bond with their deck, but arguably no one more so than the Crystal Beast wielder himself, Johan/Jesse Anderson! Show off that colorful bond today.
This was gonna be longer, and require another apology up front, but then my brain took a vaca before getting the actual angsty part so here ya go - pain free! (mostly)
I won...?
The adrenaline of that final combo wears off and he stands in stunned silence as his opponent climbs back to their feet. His ears are ringing. He honestly hadn’t expected to get this far.
“Little King.” Athena’s voice snaps him out of it; he turns to the warrior spirit smiling proudly at him and realizes his ears aren’t ringing- the crow is cheering, screaming someone’s name-
His name, the one he chose before entering this tournament.
Smiling, Jesse throws his hands in the air.
*
Athena walks next to him as Jesse exits the duel arena. He feels wired and giddy, like he could step right off the ground and float through the air. His fairies chatter animatedly, praises and congratulations and reminiscing moments from the duel.
Jesse jerks to stop in the hall. There it is again; that weird...pull, like something is calling out to him. He barely takes a step toward the source when-
“Ah, Jesse-boy! Just the person I was looking for!”
His shoulders hike to his ears with an embarrassing yelp as he spins to face the speaker. ‘Jesse-boy’? Who the heck- Oh. Oh god. Maximillion Pegasus?! “Me?” he squeaks, gawking at the living legend before him.
“Yes, you.” Is it wrong to think the man’s expression looks something like a kid in a candy store? Because it does and it’s kinda weirding Jesse out. “I have something rather special for you, I believe. If you’d come with me.”
Jesse glances at Athena who nods her head. Well, if Athena doesn’t think this is a terrible idea, how bad could it be?
Pegasus leads him down the hallways at a brisk pace, talking animatedly all the while. “A few years ago, I created a new set of cards based on some artifacts from one of my expeditions. But as soon as the cards were complete, they sealed themselves in stone!”
To anyone else, Pegasus would probably sound like a madman; but to Jesse - glancing back at the duel spirit following them - this sounds entirely in the realm of possibility. “Couldn’t you just break it?”
“I tried. I broke one of my best chizzles,” Pegasus says. “And that’s when I heard a voice - ‘You are not the one we seek’. I’m afraid I don’t have you gift,” - Jesse’s shoulders tense as the man turns to smile at him once more - “but I do have some affinity for magic and the spirits.”
“That would make sense,” Jesse says, slowly relaxing. It would be weird if the creator of this game had no idea about its secrets, but Jesse’s never met anyone else who could see duel spirits. “Why are you telling me all this? Why are you here?” Any event where Pegasus makes an appearance will usually announce the man as a guest to the entire crowd.
“A fortunate coincidence! I was in the area from some other business and decided to check out the skill of the locals. I was not disappointed.” Pegasus almost sounds smug. “As for you, Jesse-boy, I tend to keep these cards with me in case I run into the person they seek. Today, a light shone from the cards when you took the field.”
Hold up. Is he saying these ‘special cards’ chose Jesse or something?
“So I want to see if they’ll break their seal for you.” Stopping before an unmarked door, Pegasus unlocks it with a key and pushes it open.
Seven card shaped gemstones sit on display on the single table, forming a rainbow. Jesse’s heart leaps as he realizes this is the source of the feeling he’s been getting all day. Something about their uniform edges strikes him as wrong, but the colors are undeniably familiar.
“Go on,” Athena whispers. “They’ve been waiting for you.”
But why me? Jesse wants to ask except his heart is in his throat and his body reacts before his brain can, reaching out to touch the nearest crystal card. The crystal shell cracks and crumbles under his fingertip, setting off a chain reaction from the other cards as all seven shed their shells in a colorful burst of light.
“Rubii!”
Jesse jerks as the purple cat-like creature leaps toward his face - carbuncle, she’s a carbuncle, his brain supplies - landing on his shoulder to nuzzle his cheek with an odd sounding purr. A pegasus shakes himself like a dog while a large cat stretches her legs before rubbing affectionately against Jesse’s.
“Finally. It’s been too long.”
A tortoise peers curiously out of his shell. A white tiger prowls the room. An eagle flaps his wings before perching on the table. A mammoth trumpets his awakening and Jesse’s hands fly over his ear. He knows all of them, their presence washing over him and settling somewhere deep inside him like it was always supposed to be there but something’s missing.
“This set isn’t complete, I’m afraid.” Jesse spins back toward Pegasus, only just now remembering his presence in the room. “From what information I can gather, there’s an eighth card, a dragon, that can only be summoned by possessing all seven gems. But its soul was sealed in stone and hidden somewhere centuries ago.”
Something inside Jesse aches. Ruby presses herself more firmly against the side of his face. Amethyst growls.
“But I’ve got my best team looking for it, and I won’t rest until that dragon is found!” Pegasus announces with enough enthusiasm to power a whole city block.
“Please remember to sleep,” Sapphire murmurs.
“Ey, if man wants to run himself ragged lookin’ for Rainbow, who are we to stop him?” Cobalt shrugs.
Jesse smiles despite himself. “Thanks, but...remember to sleep.”
Pegasus laughs. “Of course. Now then, I think I’ve taken enough of your time.”
Oh shit! Dad will be wondering where he is! Jesse gathers the Crystal Beast cards and Pegasus hands him the rest of the support for his new deck - weird to think of it that way, he’s been playing pretty much the same deck since he started dueling - and Jesse makes a break down the hall only for watapon to screech at him and headbutt him in the right direction.
“I see that hasn’t changed.” Topaz chuckles.
“Johan.”
Jesse jerks to a halt. Athena doesn’t use his name often, which means this must be important.
“It’s time for me to move on.”
“Move on?”
“My task is done, little King,” Athena says, voice as gentle and firm as it's ever been as Jesse stares up at the spirit that’s been his guidepost for years. What doesn’t she mean ‘move on’? “You have the ones who were always meant to be at your side now.” She nods her head at the new deck box clutched in Jesse’s hands.
His grip tightens automatically. “But-” Athena was his first duel spirit, someone he looked up to from the moment he opened that first pack of cards. He built his whole deck around her! How is he supposed to-
“Now I must find my true place.” She turns to look over he shoulder and Jesse forces himself to follow her line of sight. At the end of the hall next to a cross section, a little girl in pigtails stares at the two of them, eyes wide and mouth partially open, a monster plushie clutched tightly in one arm.
Jesse jerks, looking quickling back at Athena. “Can she see you?”
“Yes.”
Jesse looks back at the girl as his heart swells and clenches in the same instant. The first person he’s ever encountered who can see duel spirits too and Athena is asking him to-
Fingers tight around the deck box that houses the Crystal Beasts, Jesse swiftly swaps it with the one on his belt, hold it close while he steels himself, and approaches the little girl. Crouching in front of her, he holds out the box full of fairies. “Hey, can you hold onto this for me?”
The girl’s eyes widen. She reaches for the deck with tiny hands as if expecting Jesse to yank it back. When he doesn’t, her eyes light up with glee and she spins on her heel to run down the adjacent hall. “Mama, mama!”
A shaky breath. Jesse stands as she disappears with the only deck he’s ever played. So this is it. With a regal bow, Athena turns to follow the girl, and Jesse swipes a stray tear from his cheek. Ruby nuzzles his face.
“I’ll be okay,” he mumbles, automatically reaching to pet the ghostly creature.

If They Were in Smash: Jotaro
Yeah. You knew I had to start with him. Literally one of the most iconic anime characters, and the most recognizable from my favorite series.
Let’s get started, shall we?
Attacks
Jab: just a quick little punch
Three-hit jab: punch, punch again, and knee. No flurry attack.
Side tilt: long kick
Up tilt: fist swings upwards
Down tilt: Jotaro bends down and trips the opponent with his feet in whatever direction he’s facing
Side smash: Jotaro leans forward and punches. Another button press will have Star Platinum elongate the punch.
Up smash: Jotaro punches upward. Another button press will have Star Platinum elongate the punch.
Down smash: Jotaro does the splits and kicks opponents from both sides. Another button press will have Star Platinum elongate the kick from both sides.
Nair: Jotaro punches in front of him, Star Platinum punches behind
Fair: normal punch forward
Bair: stylish kick backward
Up air: stylish kick upward
Dair: Star Platinum punches downward
Neutral special: same as Jotaro’s jab, but with Star Platinum. Also, instead of a three-hit jab, Star does a flurry attack.
Side special: Star Platinum uses Star Finger, which covers about an eighth of Final Destination
Up special: Star Platinum blows air from his mouth really hard and sends Jotaro straight up. This move doesn’t hurt, but it can blow opponents downward if they aren’t standing on a platform. Inspired from Enya’s Justice fight, except instead of inhaling, Star is exhaling.
Down special: Star Platinum: The World. Works like Wario’s Waft, when fully charged time stops (including the music and timer if there is one) for two seconds (not canonically accurate, but Jotaro would be broken if you could stop time for 5 seconds). Anyone who is hit moves a bit then stops until the effect ends. All normal launch rates will continue after time resumes.
Forward throw: tosses the opponent’s body aside in front of Jotaro
Back throw: tosses the opponent’s body aside behind Jotaro
Up throw: throws the opponent’s body upward, and Star Platinum adds one last little punch
Down throw: slams the opponent’s body down, and Star Platinum adds one last little flurry of punches
Final smash: Jotaro’s final move against Dio. Star Platinum puts so much pressure on the opponent they explode (in a cartoonish, non-gory way. Gotta keep that age rating low, folks). Kills instantly if the opponent is over 100 percent.
Extra animations
Entrance: Jotaro punches through the ground, similar to the Wheel of Fortune fight
Idle animation 1: Jotaro adjusts his hat
Idle animation 2: Star Platinum appears and punches the air
Up taunt: Jotaro points to the sky, like in the DiU openings
Side taunt: Jotaro points to the side
Down taunt: Jotaro pulls his hat down and says his famous line, Yare Yare Daze
Victory poses
End music: the last five bars to Stand Proud (if you don’t know anything about music, it’s basically the final few notes before the end)
First pose: Jotaro looks up from the brim of his hat and says nothing.
Second pose: Jotaro throws a piece of paper at the camera and says, “here’s your receipt.” The dramatic slowdown (when the screen shows the victor’s name) happens as the paper passes in front of the screen, and Jotaro just keeps walking away after the slowdown.
Third pose (which only happens if Jotaro won while over 100 percent on his last stock with any of his part 4 outfits): Jotaro looks at the ground, and says, “I’m glad I got to see your growth.” Right after the dramatic slowdown, Jotaro falls to the floor.
Stage: Cairo
The stage is one of the types that moves around and lands in different locations. It starts on the side of Dio’s castle at sunset. It moves to the clock tower after some very long traveling, where you can see Joseph, Kakyoin, and Dio flying through the air. After some time, a stage hazard will appear: Hierophant Green’s tripwires. If you land on one, you’ll be barraged with emeralds. The stage moves away before *major spoiler* happens, and lands after some time on the sidewalks of Cairo. No stage hazards in this part, but in the background you can see the scenery change slightly from time to time. While the stage is moving for a third time, it stops suddenly in the air, along with the music and timer, for five seconds. The players can still move. In those five seconds, some knives fly through the air, and can hit players. The final part of the stage is the bridge. On this part, the stage hazard is a huge road roller that slams on a random part of the stage after some time. Anyone who gets hit by it has an instant KO. However, you can see the shadow coming before it lands, so you can get out of the way. After that, it loops back to the beginning of the stage.
Palette swaps
Default colors (swap 1): Jotaro’s anime outfit in part 3
Swap 2: Jotaro’s manga outfit in part 3
Swap 3: Jotaro’s outfit in part 4
Swap 4: Jotaro’s outfit in part 6
Swap 5: Jotaro’s part 3 outfit, with Dio’s colors (yellow cap/hair, yellow overcoat, black shirt, yellow pants, green shoes)
Swap 6: Jotaro’s part 3 outfit, with Kakyoin’s colors (red cap/hair, green overcoat, green shirt, green pants, brown shoes)
Swap 7: Jotaro’s part 4 outfit, with Josuke’s colors (purple cap/hair, dark purple overcoat, yellow shirt, dark purple pants, brown shoes)
Swap 8: Jotaro’s part 6 outfit, with Jolyne’s colors (green hat/hair, light blue overcoat shirt pants and shoes)
Classic mode: Helping Hands
Theme: fighters that have helpers, and the helpers are not playable. Kind of replicating the idea of Stands.
First battle: Joker in Mementos
Second battle: Duck Hunt in Duck Hunt
Third battle: Pokémon Trainer in Pokémon Stadium (this is an exception to the rule because it’s really the trainer that tells the Pokémon what to do, similar to Stand users telling their Stand what to do)
Fourth battle: Banjo and Kazooie in Spiral Mountain
Fifth battle: Olimar in Distant Planet
Sixth battle: Rosalina and Luma in Mario Galaxy
Final boss: Master Hand and Crazy Hand (I know this is kind of a stretch, but you try naming another classic mode boss battle with two bosses on screen at the same time. Also, helping HANDS.)
Palutena’s guidance
Pit: Look at this guy! He probably thinks he’s so tough.
Palutena: Jotaro thinks he’s tough because he is tough. His looks do not deceive the eye.
Viridi: It’s a shame his friends call him Jojo. Really brings down his intimidation levels if you ask me.
Palutena: Jotaro has fought lots of strong enemies before. He fought against a vampire who could stop time… and won!
Viridi: He can also stop time himself. If you suddenly go flying without Jojo punching you, or you see him teleport, don’t be surprised.
Palutena: Well, he also has that Stand, Star Platinum. Unless you have a Stand, too, Pit, you won’t be able to see his, which means you’re wide open for any attacks.
Pit: Just say I’ve already lost the match, why don’t you?
Palutena: Just like every fighter in Smash, Jotaro is a formidable opponent, but not impossible to beat. You can do it if you try.
Pit: Right. Just gotta stay away from him at all costs. *pause* You don’t think Star Platinum has that big of a range, do you?
Viridi: Good luck, Pit. You’re gonna need it.
Reveal trailer
The trailer starts with Joker comboing Mario into oblivion in the actual game. After Mario is defeated, it cuts to a cutscene with Joker falling back to the ground. Morgana says, “Woohoo! Another one down! There’s nobody here who can combat against you, Joker!”
This next scene has the camera on the ground a ways away from Joker. He taunts when he gets back to the ground, saying, “Alright, who’s next?”
In front of the camera, a leg stomps to the ground. As the camera pans up around the new figure, he says, “So, I finally found you…” When the camera gets to Jotaro’s face, he finishes with, “...copycat.” He summons Star Platinum and the splash screen appears:
Jotaro stands up to fight!
After that is the moveset showcase. You already know Jotaro’s moves.
The extra scene after the Smash logo fades away is Jotaro meeting with Simon and Richter. “Vampire hunters?” he asks. The two Belmonts nod. Jotaro nods back and goes on his way.
Extra tidbits
Jotaro would have an option to play his Japanese voice or English voice in the English version of the game.
Like many of the godlike characters in this game, Jotaro teleports when dodging.
Star Platinum only holds one item in the entire gam, the baseball bat. Jotaro holds the rest.

Completely Harmless Appendix 5
The Silver Rose: Silverglade’s Fashion and Equestrian Boutique
The Fashion for the Sterling Rose was one of the biggest, and actually the first, things that I did for this project. I went to school for fashion design and part of my identity outside of “indie author” is “fashion designer.” My love of games and my love of fashion design kind of grew up side by side. So, a job where I could design fashion and have it be in a game is kind of one of my huge dreams. It’s also one of my “responsibilities” in Mystic Riders MMO is to make the different “brands” of the different areas.

I wanted to practice more to prove that I could do clothes on figures that aren’t 9 head fashion figures and have them look good. Star Stable Online’s figures are actually about five and a half heads high. They’re between preadolescent and older teen artistic biological proportions. (An adult being 8 heads and an older teen being 7.5 or so.) I found some concept art on Tumblr and used those figures to basically redress them. I believe (though I can’t be certain) that Star Stable provides blank figures for both horses, equipment, and clothes to their concept artists.

This would save time and is exactly what I would do if I was in charge of the game. This is part of what they call a game document. Game devs love the game document and some won’t work for you if you don’t have it.

So, the clothes and equipment I designed are based off of the Winery Set and Silverglade Clan Riding Outfit and anything that said “Baroness” on it. I selected the purples from the clothes (way too many purples) to be my color palette.

I used their basic blocks (what I call the different styles the texture artists paint the clothes on for the game) and tried to design details that would fit together to create a mix and match line of clothes.

This ended up being 20 total outfits from head to toe including the Baroness’ Riding outfit and the Silverglade Clan Riding Outfit. There needed to be pants, shorts, t-shirts, long sleeved shirts, dresses, hats, gloves, and I also made earrings and headbands because they added them to the game and I can.

I wanted the group to have a jockey outfit, a dressage outfit, a showjumping outfit, and at least one Western outfit (there ended up being two) and redesigned the outfits of a couple of the NPCs so they’d fit with the updated look of the area. Plus, Lin, Pauline, and Tyra are basically triplets and this needs to stop.

I tried my best not to make anything that wasn’t present somewhere in the game already. The details ended up being roses, the sporty racing stripe from the Silverglade Clan set, the dots from the Winery Set, ducks, pearls, and the Silverglade clan swirl like emblem.

I also did what we call in fashion, merchandising, of these items. When you merchandise an item, you take what you believe are going to be the biggest selling items in your collection and you make them in more than one color or material.

Because this is a game and we don’t really have to worry about store space, I merchandised every item to have at least two color swaps (the jockey outfit) to five color swaps. Any more than five and the images started looking confusing. I used the rose shape and filled it in with different colors to mimic the item being merchandised.

Hopefully with these clothes, the player could dress their character for everything from championships to a garden party. And these clothes could be expanded upon later to add more to the store if necessary.

For instance, I didn’t do any fall or winter clothes really because it’s eternal summer in Jorvik! They’ve also added a could new blocks since I did this, so we could do a handkerchief hem shirt and so on.

For the equipment, I merchandised by showing on the different saddles, and blankets of each style what the color combos could be. The clearest probably being the different leg wraps. Because they’re the same colors and to an extent they have the same type of decorations (the Silver Drakes Fancy Gear Set being the exception) you can still mix and match them together.

Merchandising is for the purpose of gaining more sales. Someone might like a style but want it in a different color. Having that color available means that they are more likely to purchase the item. (This is me, now, in Star Stable, going “where is that in black?”)

Then to complete a head to toe look, I researched makeup and hair options because I felt the Baroness would like old fashioned and elegant hairstyles for her ladies in the riding club. Then I tried to come up with makeup looks that were classic fifties or could be worn at night.

Jewelry is all about theme and variation. Take your theme and start mix and matching them together.

Then for fun, I took some of the details and gave them to the ducks. (Yes, I started with their Seagull in the game. It’s now a duck. Let’s not go into what I had to do to make it look like a duck.) Because who doesn’t want a cute fancy duck?

Whew... that is a LOT of images!
FOR THE ACCOMPANYING IMAGES PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE MY WATERMARK AND CONTACT INFORMATION. THANK YOU. I get it. Some of you might get excited and want to see this stuff in the game, especially the clothes, tack, and pets. However, the only way I want to see this in the game is if I get paid for it. If I see it in the game and I’m not paid for it, there will be hell to pay. You think I’m salty. I’d be angry. Personally, I’m not going to send this info to SSO. If you do, leave my contact information there! Don’t give them any excuses to steal.
Now, I’ll know you haven’t read this note if you leave me comments about how ‘salty’ I am about the game and if I hate it so much I should do something else. I am doing something else. It’s called Mystic Riders MMORPG Project. Mystic Riders however is a very baby phase game. You can check out our plans on the game dev blog. (Skills, Factions, Professions, Crafting, Mini-Games, 25+ horse breeds!) If you know anyone who would be interested and has money or contacts about game making, direct them to the blog.

Diary of a Junebug

Sandwiches and charming little huts
Walking the trails of Charm Villa is like stepping into a bright, colorful, and cute notepad. Rolling hills with vibrant green grass and colorful flowers scattered all over. On the tops of the hills are rustic and whimsical little cottages and huts, as well as shops, cafes, and a library. Take a picture and you’d think it was from a stationery set!
After sleeping in until around eleven we met up with Gutsy and Livvy at Coffee Studios for a tour of Charm Villa. Gutsy’s a college friend of Daisy Jane who just moved to the village a few months ago. Livvy’s her niece - first cousin once removed - and she and Jack - her dad/Gutsy’s cousin - own Coffee Studios. The cafe was founded by Gutsy and Jack’s grandma, then it was passed down to Jack’s mom, and after she retired her son and granddaughter now run the place.
The cafe’s best known for their sandwiches and every few months they set up a contest for a new sandwich to add to the menu. Livvy was the one who started that tradition and it got popular so it stuck. Guess what today happened to be? While Lolly, Pancetti, Biskit, and Lyman prepped for the contest, the rest of us hung around the village before meeting back around 3 for the contest.
I’ve only met Gutsy a handful of times over the years and she always leaves an impression. The name Gutsy - short for Augusta - fits her to a T. She said that she never thought her impulsiveness and wild imagination would make her a good detective and yet there she was solving crimes and saving the day. Gutsy really does remind me a lot about Jamie, except a lot more extroverted and bold. Honestly, I’m surprised that they haven’t crossed paths yet.
So far Gutsy’s enjoying the peaceful village life. It’s a huge change of pace compared to her old life. Gutsy grew up in a boarding house that also ran a stable so her life revolved around horses since forever. Her father died when she was seventeen, opening up a can of worms that led to her getting tangled up with an embezzling scheme that he was involved in and indirectly caused his death. After exposing the crime, Gutsy joined a task force dedicated to investigating crimes relating to shady underground practices involving horses like racing and such.
Daisy Jane and Gutsy met in college when they became roommates. At the time Gutsy was considering studying to be a veterinarian but ended up dropping out a year later because the task force was starting to take over her life. In retrospect, the whole being a vet thing wasn’t meant to be for her.
Being a detective was an unexpected turn for Gutsy, one that no one saw coming - and yet, at the time, it made sense. For a while, she felt that she found her calling, especially after being betrayed by what her dad and his friends had done. Maybe, in a way, she was trying to absolve him of his misdeeds. Solving mysteries and working with horses, what else can she ask for?
But then around last year things went sour. Investigating crimes has its dangers, which Gutsy knows all too well. She can handle being a target, but when loved ones are in the line of fire, that’s where she draws the line. The birth of her daughter Lulu led to Gutsy reevaluating her life choices. Eventually she decided that it was time to move on and give Lulu a stable childhood.
That’s why she decided to settle in Charm Villa. Other than her cousins and a small handful of relatives, Gutsy doesn’t have much family. With Lulu to take care of, a journey of self discovery was out of the question so she opted to stick close to family for practical reasons. With Livvy in college and only coming home every other weekend and Jack having experience as a young single parent as well as needing help with the cafe, Gutsy knew she and Lulu would be in good hands.
While she finds herself much happier and less stressed in Charm Villa, Gutsy does miss being around horses. As far as she knows, the nearest stable is about two hours away so she hasn’t had a chance to visit yet. Maybe when Lulu’s a little older, she says. For now, Gutsy and horses are taking a long break.
The way she describes it is like a close relationship that has gone a bit too codependent. All her life she grew up surrounded by horses so she related to them more than people. Her views on the family she grew up with, especially her dad, have been clouded in recent years. When she put together the pieces, she didn’t want to believe it, but at the same time, it all made sense. While being a detective gave her a sense of purpose, it also showed Gutsy how deceiving people can be. She always - and still - find horses more trusting than people, so in a way she relied on them as a crutch. Do it for the horses - that was her mantra whenever she tackled a case that would push her limits. Then that led to her letting the task force take over her life to the point that she had nothing outside of that.
Eventually it got to the point where all she cared about was getting the truth out. Right and wrong, black and white, collateral damage was unfortunate but it didn’t matter as long as what’s done is done. As a result, Gutsy ended up burning a lot of bridges, which in turn made her question if she did more harm than good.
Lulu was her wake up call, the one who turned Gutsy’s life upside down and forced her to reevaluate her future. Being a parent wasn’t in the cards for her but in the end she made her choice. While the idea of raising a kid is still terrifying for her, so far it seems to be the best thing to happen to her. After spending most of her life jumping headfirst into danger and chasing thrills, Gusty realized the weight of her actions and how one can’t always jump to conclusions or make poor judgements just to get ahead of everyone else.
Maybe it’s another attempt to right her dad’s wrongs - that’s still something she struggles with - but Charm Villa, the cafe, Lulu, her cousins, it’s been doing her a lot of good. There’s still a lot that Gutsy’s uncertain about, but getting herself out of a bad place is a good first step. After everything she’s been through, I hope she finds that peace of mind she deserves. From the looks of it, I think she’s finding her way.
Around 1:30 we headed back to the cafe to help set up for the sandwich contest. When we were done, we had time to kill so Jack and Livvy gave us a tour of the kitchen. Then we made lattes and bread, which was a lot of fun. By the time we were able to master latte art, it was time for the contest to begin!
Candy Fruit Sando by Lolly A super sweet take on the cute Japanese fruit sandwiches! To kick things up a notch, the fruits are coated with a sugary syrup for an extra crunch! Sylvana - If this doesn’t satisfy your sweet tooth, I don’t know what will! 8/10 Audie - Talk about indulgent! 6/10 Rod - Perfect for a cheat day after an intense workout - but only in moderation! 7/10 Snooty - Are you sure this is a sandwich? 5/10

So, over on Twitter I saw this post,

and it was funny looking at the comments and how the same word had so many variations depending on where you lived, especially with slang.
But then later I was reading fanfiction and it was a good fic and the characters weren’t OOC or anything but, there was this one word that clearly the author of that fic uses but those characters would definitely not, to the point where it annoyed me because appart from this one word, the character was perfect, and then I’d run into this word and it would ruin the image in my head.
And it got me thinking like, should we pedantic about which variations of words you use, despite the fact that everyone still understands exactly what you’re saying and it all still makes sense, just to have perfect characterisation.
I mean like, I am Australian, so I say mum not mom but if I wrote a fic with an American character I’d have them say mom because that’s in character and the accent and vowel sounds are different.
But we also say colour not color so do I then swap it to color despite it being pronounced pretty much the same and everyone knowing what I mean?
For example if I had Luke Skywalker say that he likes the colour of Leia’s dress, would that annoy some potential reader as much as I got annoyed at the word that was misused in the fic I read today?
What about Yes? There are so many variations of Yes. Yes, Yeah, Yep, Yea, Ya, Nah Yeah, No Yeah, Yup, Yaaaassss; without getting into Ok, Of Course, Sure, etc.
For example in the MCU:
If we’re staying in character, there is no way in hell that Pepper Potts, the most eloquent lady of the MCU would say, Ya. She’d say Yes to strangers and aquaintences and occasionally Yeah or Yep to Tony or Rhodey or Happy. Not Ya or Yas or even Yea.
Tony Stark in the MCU has said Yes, Yep, Yup, Yeah, and Yeah-huh (which was some weird combo of Yeah and Uh-huh), he has not said Ya or Yas.
Scott Lang on the other hand probably would say Ya and Luis has probably said Yas (but I could be wrong, it’s been a while since I’ve seen Ant-Man).
Now it’s not like if someone wrote Pepper Potts saying Ya, I’d immediately go to the comments and be like “Pepper Potts would never say Ya! Change it!” because that’s pretty damn rude and it’s not really that big of a problem overall and it’s not like I have no idea what’s she’s saying now that a different word has been used.
Also fanfic authors aren’t paid (except in our love but that doesn’t really count), so we don’t harass them if they’ve used a word we don’t like or spelt something wrong or made a grammatical error. They don’t have professional editors so if they miss something then that’s not their fault.
But it would take away from my experience as a reader because now I’m sitting there debating to myself on whether or not Pepper would ever say Ya. Maybe she has said it in the comics? I haven’t read any Iron Man comics I wouldn’t know. Maybe she did say it to Tony once in the movies and I’ve forgotten? and then I’d end up sitting there thinking to myself trying to remember her saying it, rather than focusing on the story.
Anyway that’s just my weird ruminations. Let me know if there’s any particular word you’re seen misused for a particular character. Does anyone else get pedantic about this or does it not bother you.
#writing#fanfiction#fanfiction writing#ruminations#internal debates#iron man#tony stark#avengers#iron dad#star wars#mcu#pepper potts#luke skywalker#princess leia#send me your opinion#does anyone else get annoyed at this or is it just me#send me any other words you’ve seen misused frequently#this became a much bigger rant than I thought

Drake - 2th Class
Art By the Fantastic and cute ball of shadow @perfectshadow06 Color Version by me.
What is a Class for this Character?
Well, Drake is originally a OC for one game I played in the past, the game never accepted OCs but that isn’t important (Btw, the name of the game is Grand Chase).
In the game, we had a system of evolution with classes, almost every character had 4 classes, with new classes the character can had more powers and skils to use in the battle, they could change the class in the middle of battle for have more combos and variety and every class had different strong points.
New Drake’s Powers:
He can mix the DNA of two races in one part of his body;
He can use the DNA of just one race in 75% of his body (with the exception of the front of his torso and his face);
He can create extra parts for his body like tails, ears and wings;
He can change between his old class, regenerating his clothes when he haves energy, he still can swap for the clothes of his old class (also, this class uses more energy, soo Drake still have to use the old one).
Class Awakening:
Drake was patrolling the area while his old group was making a camp, in the middle of the patrol, he found a Dragon, the dragon was out of itself and being controlled by a boy, that was the second time that the boy used a dragon to attack people.
Drake: You again!? I thought I had killed your last dragon, why you keep attacking inocente people!?
Boy: ... D, attack the children.
The dragon was going to use a fire breath on the children, but drake jumped in the front of the attack, the Dragon was stronger than the last one, poison of his Imp DNA killed last one but this new dragon have a helmet in the format of the dragon’s head, protecting the ayes.
Drake: Please kids, run, I just need space!!
The Kids ran to a safe place, the dragon was angry and tried to give a punch in Drake, he deviated and tried to use a counter-attak with his dragon arm, the dragon with a great force used the other hand to punch Drake, the punches collided and Drake losed the duel of strength, being thrown into a wall that was near.
Drake: *gasping* This dragon is stronger than the last one, it needs to have a weak point... and the eyes are covered... why I’m soo weak!? I don’t have the same strength as a original dragon beacause I’m not 100% anything... I’m a mere hybrid...
While he was thinking, the dragon tried to attack a Kid who was near the fight.
Drake: NO NO NO!!! Not again!!!! I can’t let another kid die because of me!!!
Drake jumped between the Dragon’s attack, his strong emotions awakened a new form, a shield of light blocked the dragon’s attack, Drake didn’t understand what was happening but when he thoughts about something stronger than a dragon, his hand changed for a mix form of Dragon’s and Slime’s DNA, he was confuse why his arm was like that but he instinctively punched the Dragon’s face and corroded the helmet and threw the dragon away, something was clear, he can use more DNA power now!
Boy: D, we have to go back to home.
The dragon flew away and with a scared hug the kid said...
Kid: Thank you sir!
Drake: ... You’re welcome kid, go hug your parents, they’re more important now.
Kid: Yes, I have to tell them how a awesome hero saved me today!!! *Run to home*
Drake: Hero...? Pfft, why I’m soo happy now?... Thanks kid.
Extras:
Drake has 173cm in this class (He had 167 in the first one);
His base form in this class it’s with Demon’s DNA, that’s why he have horns, a black hair and blue Eyes (when using a weaker DNA, the colors of his eyes and hair are light brown);
If you want the reference of his clothes, here comes the link!!! (Btw, disregard the horns in the clothing because it only appears in his demon form).
THANKS FOR READING IT GUYS, IF YOU WANT TO KNOW ABOUT DRAKE’S BACKSTORY CLICK HERE.

The Ultimate Vegan Nachos

Let's do nachos today. I know the title says vegan nachos, but whether you're vegan or not, when you need a nacho fix, this is how you should roll. At least once. Just to see if you like them. I mean, nachos are always a crowd pleaser, and this is no exception, I promise. Chances are, you won't even miss the classic cheese bomb version. On the flip side, your body will thank you because the "cheese" in this version is non-dairy, vegan, packed with beneficial spices, cashews, garlic, and grated sweet potatoes, and lasts up to a week refrigerated.

All About the Cheese
Sweet potato nacho cheese is a thing for good reason, it behaves a lot like a classic nacho cheese, it's the right color even, but(!) it's arguably more delicious, and made from natural ingredients. I incorporate a bunch of short-cuts in my version to speed things along, like grating the sweet potato. Also, if you make the sauce a day or two ahead of time, you can have a pan of nachos ready to go in a flash. Ready? Let's do this.
How to Get the Toppings Right
I'm including two different versions here. Option one is your typical pile-it-on semi-classic approach (pictured above): baked tortilla chips, black beans, sweet potato nacho cheese, olives, salsa, guacamole, chiles, etc. The other? Option two (pictured below) is what I like to think of as my hippie version: baked tortilla chips, sweet potato nacho cheese, chickpeas, roasted broccoli, guacamole, hemp seeds, pickled serrano chiles. The only things that would make it more hippie-ish would be to sprinkle it with nutritional yeast, and perhaps do a green version of the cheese (which I've considered ;)...
If you're trying to make a meal out of the nachos, a good approach is to pile them high with an added sheet pan of simple, roasted vegetables. Broccoli and cheese is a classic combo (that even a lot of kids like), so I tend to go that route, but experiment! Roast a pan of vegetables while you're making the cheese. Easy.

Choosing Your Chips
Is it me, or are baked tortilla chips increasingly hard to find? I look for baked chips (and sometimes fail). And/or ones with added heirloom corn, added quinoa, maca, etc. I also look for lightly-salted (some are SO salty!).
Uses for Your Extra Nacho Cheese
Any extra cheese is also tops as a sandwich spread, crudité dip, or keep it on hand anytime you're grilling or roasting.
Oven to Table Convenience
Bake and serve your nachos on the same plate (or pan). I use an oven-proof platter here. A baking sheet or sheet pan also works. It makes it simple to go from oven to table. Pile as many chips as you like on your platter/pan, top with beans, top with cheesy dollops, and bake for a few minutes. Don't worry that they don't look particularly nice, everything changes when you add your finishing toppings! No need to dirty another plate.

Sweet Potato Vegan Nacho Cheese
PRINT RECIPE

You can skip soaking the cashews if you have a high-speed blender. Use a box grater to grate the sweet potatoes.
Ingredients
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic, peeled and smashed
1/2 teaspoon fine grain sea salt
1 teaspoon sweet paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 chipotle pepper in adobo sauce, chopped
1 cup grated orange-fleshed sweet potato
1 cup cashews, soaked for an hour
1 cup water, if needed
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, or to taste
Instructions
In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat combine the olive oil, onion, garlic, and salt. Cook, stirring regularly, until the onions soften, 3-5 minutes. Add the paprika, garlic powder, and chipotle, and cook for another minute. Stir in the sweet potatoes, cashews, and water, and bring to a simmer. Cook for 5 minutes or so, until the sweet potatoes are tender.
Transfer the mixture to a high-speed blender, add the lemon juice, and blend until completely smooth, 2-3 minutes. Add water a splash at a time to thin consistency if needed. Taste, and adjust seasoning if needed.
Notes
*Pickled Serrano Chiles: I keep these on hand at all times! Slice 8 (or more!) Serrano chiles 1/8th-inch thick and place in 2 cups of white vinegar in a Mason jar. Use the chiles w/in a week or two. You can use the vinegar for weeks after that in dressings, on lettuce wraps, and rice bowls.

5 from 5 votes

I got my Puyo 20 anniversary yesterday! I am enjoying the game so far, but I don't know how to play some of the modes, like the SUN mode. How does that one operate??
Puyo Puyo 20th Anniversary has quite a lot of modes. Some of them are returning rules from earlier games while some are gimmick modes.
I can explain how they work.
-Puyo Puyo / ぷよぷよ
This is the original ruleset that was used in the first Puyo Puyo. It’s a bit outdated if you ask me because of how it lacks a lot of the features that was later added in Puyo Puyo Tsu. You can’t offset (counter) your opponent’s chain by making a bigger chain. Your “next queue” only shows you 1 instead of 2 pairs of puyo.
-Puyo Puyo Tsu / ぷよぷよ通
This ruleset comes from the second game in the series. It’s the most popular ruleset and it introduced the offset mechanic which I mentioned earlier. If your opponent does a 4 chain, you can lower the damage you take by setting off lower chain before the nuisance puyo hits you or you can counter it and send the nuisance puyo back to them by setting of a bigger chain. This adds so much more depth to the game and makes it a lot more interesting. This is the mode you wanna play if you want to play with the most commonly used rules.
-Puyo Puyo SUN / ぷよぷよSUN
This ruleset comes from the third game in the series. It’s like Tsu but there’s a sun in the middle that sends in Sun Puyo to both players’ fields when one of the players offsets Nuisance Puyo.
You can erase the Sun Puyo by popping other Puyo next to them, same way as how you get rid of Nuisance Puyo. Erasing Sun Puyo during your chain makes it do more damage.
-Puyo Puyo Fever / ぷよぷよフィーバー
This ruleset is from the Fever series. Both players have a fever gauge that they fill up by offseting Nuisance Puyo and once it’s filled up you go into Fever Mode for a short period of time. In Fever Mode you’ll be given as many preset chains that you can set off until the timer runs out, and then you’ll return to normal.
All the characters have unique dropsets in this ruleset.
-Mission Puyo / なぞぷよ
Both players are given a task that they need to do, such as setting of a 2 chain or clearing 6 Puyo at once. The first one to complete the task is given a point and a new task is given. The first player to reach a certain number of points wins.
This mode might be hard to do if you don’t understand Japanese. But you can probably guess your way through it since you can still read the numbers.
-Mega Puyo Rush / でかぷよラッシュ
The Puyo pieces are huge in this mode. Rather than building long chains, you should instead erase the puyo quickly and get a combo going. The combo counter goes up every time you erase puyo. It helps setting off 2 or 3 chains while you’re at it, but if you take too long time to erase Puyo, the combo counter will reset.
-Mini Puyo Fever / ちびぷよフィーバー
This mode is similar to when you’re in Fever Mode in the Fever ruleset. Except the Puyo pieces are much smaller than usual.
-Mini Puyo Excavation / ちびぷよはっくつ
Both fields are filled with various colored Puyo, and there’s a star on the bottom. The first one to dig down to the star and erase it will do massive damage to the other player.
-Gust / とっぷう
Wind will push the Puyo pieces left and right.
-Slot / スロット
A slot machine displaying different effects is in the middle of the screen with a timer on it. The timer goes down for each Puyo that gets erased. The player to erase the last Puyo when the timer reaches 0 gets an effect.
Blue will affect their opponent such as freezing all of the Puyo on their field, increasing their drop speed or sending them two rows of Nuisance Puyo .
Pink will affect the player who got it, such as completely restoring their field and give them a preset chain, or remove all of the nuisance Puyo from their field.
Green affects both players, such as flipping both fields upside down, or swap both players fields with each other.
-Foursight / よんてさき
The next queue shows 4 pieces instead of 2.
-Blocks / ブロック
A random preset pattern of blocks that can’t be removed are on both fields.
-Active / アクデイブ
You can still place Puyo on your field even when a chain is going off.
This is normally not possible.
-Cross Spinner / クロスかいてん
Every 10 seconds both players’ fields will be flipped upside down.
-Quarted / カルテット
Puyo comes down in 4 pieces rather than 2.
-Pair Puyo Puyo / ペアでぷよぷよ
This is a 2 vs 2 mode. Both teams have 3 lives that they have to share with their teammate The surviving team wins.
Teammates share their chains with each other too, if one player does a 6 chain their teammate can set off their own 7 chain before the other chain finishes to extend it to a 13 chain.
There are still a few other hidden modes, but they are mostly just variations of the ones I’ve already mentioned.

4cr Plays: Puyo Puyo Tetris

Like many gamers, I have a long-running history with Tetris. I first got a Game Boy back in Christmas of 1993, and it came bundled with Link’s Awakening. Well, being an idiot, I didn’t want Link’s Awakening. I didn’t care that it was free. I wanted some Ninja Turtles sidescroller.
I did get the Turtles game, and it was bad. However, I did give Link’s Awakening a try, despite my earlier protests, and it ended up being one of my favorite games. To this day, it remains my favorite 2D entry in the series.
Then came Tetris.
A couple of months after getting the Game Boy, my teacher took it away when I got caught playing in class. It wasn’t a big deal - she gave it back later that day. However, when she gave it back, there was an extra game. To my credit, I did tell her that it wasn’t mine. She told me to take it anyways - as long as I promised not to play in class. That is how I ended up with my first copy of Tetris.
Again, being an idiot, I thought this Tetris thing looked stupid. I must have learned a tiny lesson from the Link’s Awakening experience, however, as I did slot the cart into the system that night to give it a try.
I never did learn who that copy of Tetris belonged to, but I definitely owe them. I was immediately hooked. I ran down so many pairs of batteries playing that game. To this day, Tetris is just something I have to have on every handheld system. According to my play log, I’ve put about 75 hours into the 3DS Virtual Console release of the original. I must have put hundreds into Tetris DS. I even have a copy of the mediocre Tetris Ultimate for Vita!
Whoever you are, anonymous donor of Tetris, I hope you won the cosmic karma lottery.
I have far less history with Puyo Puyo. And in all fairness, the western world as a whole has far less history with Puyo Puyo. However, I do have one memory from my early days. I never had a Genesis as a kid, but I did love Sonic the Hedgehog. Like a lot of kids I was really into the Archie comics and the Saturday morning cartoon (the good one - the one that, in retrospect, was a total Star Wars knockoff). I did have a couple of friends who owned a Genesis, and one weekend, I went over to see the new games they got for their birthday and watch cartoons. One of those games was called Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine.
In one of the stranger marketing moves of the 90′s, SEGA took Puyo Puyo and inserted Sonic characters. Aesthetically, it’s a mess. Even at the time, my main reaction was that the game looked weird, and that the Sonic connections were only surface-deep. Since I didn’t own any SEGA systems at that point, I never really got into Mean Bean Machine like I did Tetris, but I do have some lingering memories of falling blobs.
This long, rambling, road leads us into Puyo Puyo Tetris - a PB&J mix of the two long-running puzzle titans. Puyo Puyo Tetris is actually old news in Japan - it came out almost three years ago for every system under the sun - but never made it to the west. However, we have a new system, the Nintendo Switch, and not surprisingly, SEGA has taken the opportunity to both port the game and release it world-wide.
Unlike a lot of westerners, and mainly because of my Tetris addiction, this is not my first encounter with Puyo Puyo Tetris. I actually imported it for Vita and played a ton of it there. That being said, I am unreasonably excited for the new release for two reasons:
Even though I own a truly ludicrous number of handheld systems, I have some inexplicable need for a copy of Tetris on all of them. I have a new system (the Switch). I need Tetris. No, this isn’t healthy. Let’s just move on.
I’m not exactly fluent in Japanese. I can parse the menu screens, but my Japanese was absolutely not up to the task of making sense of the story mode.
And oh yes. There is a story mode. In a puzzle game. It also turns out that it makes about as much sense in English as it did in Japanese. But that’s OK - it’s fantastic. We’ll get to that more in a minute.
First, it is worth taking a second to explain the western release, because it is a little confusing. They are releasing it world-wide for both Switch and PS4. For Switch, you can buy it either digitally or physically. The digital release, in the US, is $30. The physical version is $40, but comes with keychains. The PS4 version is physical-only, and costs $30 (and does not come with the keychains). This is due to the insane licensing requirements for Tetris. Because Ubisoft sells Tetris Ultimate digitally on PS4, SEGA cannot release Puyo Puyo Tetris digitally. I have no idea why this does not cover physical copies as well, but I am glad - at least PS4 owners can get this in some form. Because there are no other Tetris games on Switch, SEGA could release in both forms. However, if you want this digitally, I’d recommend getting it sooner rather than later.
OK - that was a bit confusing. To summarize, this is out on PS4 and Switch. It is physical-only on PS4, and comes in both physical and digital form on Switch.
Let’s step back for a minute and cover the basics.
You are probably familiar with Tetris. If not (What are you doing? Go buy a GameBoy!), the premise is that shapes fall from the sky. These shapes, called tetrominoes, are formed from the combination of four squares - just as dominoes are formed from two squares. You control where those shapes fall, and if you can form a solid line between the two sides of the screen with these shapes, the line will disappear. Your task is to keep forming these lines as long as you can, while the tetrominoes keep speeding up their descent. You get points for each line cleared, and bonuses for clearing multiple lines at once - up to a max of four, called a “tetris.” There are a few minor additions, but the basic formula is beautiful in its simplicity.
Puyo Puyo is similar. Colored pairs of blobs fall from the sky. Over time, they fall faster. In this case, your goal is to form combinations of four blobs of the same color. These combinations can be in any configuration except diagonal, so you can have a big square, a line, a cross - etc. - as long as they share a color. Like in Tetris, you get more points for clearing multiple combinations at once. You also get more points for combinations with more than four elements. The biggest twist is the concept of chains. When you clear a combination, the blobs above it fall. If you clear a combo, and the falling blobs form a new combo, then you get a huge score bonus. This builds as more chain reactions occur. The key to Puyo Puyo mastery comes in setting up massive chain reactions.
If you are entirely new to one of the games, they include a series of tutorial videos covering each of the core concepts. I wish they were a bit more interactive, but they do the trick for covering the basics.
In most of the modes of Puyo Puyo Tetris, you play either Puyo Puyo or Tetris. If, like me, you have a ton of love for Tetris and very little experience with Puyo Puyo, this is a fantastic way to get your Tetris fix and explore a new game. The same would hold true for die-hard Puyo Puyo fans. There are a ton of different game modes, and both Tetris and Puyo Puyo are represented excellently. Both games also mix well. In multiplayer, players can choose their game. In both Tetris and Puyo Puyo, scoring will drop garbage pieces on the other player. This means that they can be combined fairly seamlessly, with one player playing Puyo Puyo and the other playing Tetris.
There is also a fusion mode where you can play both games at the same time, with both tetrominoes and blobs falling on the field. It is exactly as insane as it sounds.

So, getting back to the story mode. Apparently this is a staple in the Puyo Puyo series. I guess - as a Tetris player - I’ve been missing out. The “adventure” mode presents a 10 chapter storyline where the Puyo Puyo cast find themselves (a) on a spaceship, with (b) blocks falling from the sky. The spaceship inhabitants aren’t particularly bothered by the tetrominoes, but are quite perturbed by the sudden appearance of falling blobs. Suddenly, the two groups must unite to stop the… falling puzzle pieces. I wasn’t kidding when I said it didn’t make much more sense in English. It’s kind of delightfully nonsensical.
Each chapter is made up of a series of levels where you play either Tetris or Puyo Puyo. In each level, you have a set of three objectives to fulfill. At the end, you get a star rating based on how many you passed. This is actually a fantastic way to get better at each game, as you have targets to work towards. I really appreciate this, as I really haven’t played much Puyo Puyo, and this has really helped improve my skills.
The “Solo Arcade” menu offers a variety of game modes to play, as the title implies, by yourself. You can face off against a CPU opponent in either game. You can play the fusion mode that I mentioned earlier. There is a mode called Swap, where you alternate at set intervals between both games. This is really fun, as you have to keep track of where you left off. There is a Party mode where items fall from the sky that activate as you clear lines or combinations. The Big Bang mode tasks you with clearing set patterns without making mistakes. Finally, there are three “challenge” modes for each game. For Puyo Puyo, there is an endless mode, a mode where you complete preset chains as long as possible, and a mode where the blobs are extra tiny. For Tetris, the standard marathon is present (150 lines). There is also a sprint mode where you complete 40 lines as fast as possible, and the “ultra” mode, where you get the best score you can within a three minute limit.

You can play any of these, except the challenge modes, in local multiplayer as well. Local multiplayer can either be done on the same system, with each player taking a joycon, or over a wireless connection. The online mode also offers the same modes, and you can play either ranked or unranked matches.
There are a couple of nice additional bonuses. As you play, you accumulate credits that can be exchanged for game skins and voice packs for the announcers. There are also trophies for each game that you can unlock.
One of my concerns going into the Switch version was the lack of a “real” d-pad on the system. After putting a good bit of time into the final release, I needn’t have been concerned. The split “d-buttons” on the joycon are fine. I actually think they feel better than the Vita d-pad in the game. The game also looks fantastic on both the Switch screen and on a big TV.

All-in-all, Puyo Puyo Tetris is a fantastic package, and I’m thrilled that SEGA has finally released it to the rest of the world. If you have a PS4 or a Switch, I cannot recommend this enough. It is a packed collection of variants of two of the most important puzzle games in existence, with a huge variety of single and multiplayer modes. I can see this getting a ton of playtime on my Switch.

Spring 10x10 outfit recap
Here are my 10 looks from my Spring 10x10 challenge! Here are the 10 pieces I started with, and here’s my breakdown (with links) of each outfit. Now, for some loosey-goosey thoughts...
Overall, I had a lot of fun during this #spring10x10, and the best part was following everyone else’s outfits on Instagram and getting inspired. It wasn’t too challenging, namely because I chose to keep outerwear as “accessories.” I will definitely use that trick again, because it worked out so well to feel liberated in that sense. The challenge made me try some different things (like tying shirts in knots), but I ultimately was content to repeat certain items more that I had initially planned. It was nice to see that sense of contentment coming through, and I especially appreciated my low heels and blue button-up as if they were shiny new pieces. I am definitely ready to start wearing some different pants, though.
My accessories stayed pretty minimal, and shifted ever so slightly from those I had thought I would grab originally. I loved having 3 pairs of shoes, because I think it really helps shoes stay comfortable when you’re not repeat-wearing them every day. Laundry was easy, except for a little lack of planning on my part. Despite this recent purchase, I was out of appropriate underpants by day 4, and because I also got a chocolate stain on my white jeans early in the challenge, I had to do an “emergency” load early on. But all my tops were totally fine to wear multiple times before washing.
When I do 10x10s, I like to look at the list as a whole and judge whether it would make a good packing list. Here, I think there’s some potential, with a few key changes. I would probably swap a pair of shoes for a third pair of pants, and would have to add a piece a outerwear that works with everything.
Outfit 1: Even though a white button-up seems to be something that goes with everything, I was really struggling with how to style it in a way that didn’t feel too uptight, so that’s why I included it here in my 10x10--I knew it would force me to try things. I started off by a) doing a recent go-to I love, white-on-white and b) keeping it super relaxed with a front-tuck, scrunched sleeves, and an open neck. Tucking my sunnies into my collar when I wasn’t wearing them also helped me feel like the shirt was staying “in place.”
Outfit 2: I sometimes wish that I had gone nude or brown with my low heels, but on days like this, when the color palette is super soft, I’m so glad I picked black. It feels a bit more fashion-y to have that high contrast. When I first bought this top, my husband encouraged me to pick this blush color, rather than white or gray or black, and I’m glad I did. It’s so pale that it’s nearly a neutral, so it’s a “gateway” to color for people who are afraid of color haha. I tried something weird with my shirt here, tucking it at front and back, but letting it drape at the sides a bit. It creates a nice waistline shape without feeling too constraining. I often feel tight in silk tops even if they’re billowy, because they don’t have much give, so this was a real lightbulb moment.
Outfit 3: A bit of gray + white, warmed up with my tan bag. I really like all these pieces together, especially with a blue denim jacket, but I’m not feeling the full tuck on my shirt. It makes the sleeves feel out of proportion, and it’s a bit too bulky in the back. How do we feel about the length on these jeans? They’re frayed, so I could easily cut some length off, but I’m a bit nervous I’ll go too far. I experimented with rolling them in some of my later outfits.
Outfit 4: I love t-shirts, and this might be the best one I own. It’s almost perplexing how soft and thin it is, given that it’s a more substantial weight than most. As far as this outfit goes, I’m little worried it got too sailor costume-y. I was originally planning to wear my black bandana, but swapped it out for a white one I got as a wedding favor, thinking it might be more subtle. I think is almost works, but in the future, I might nix the bandana altogether and let this be more minimal.
Outfit 5: Because I wore my jacket on most of the day before, I repeated the same tee here. Hopefully no one at work noticed! Isn’t the stigma attached to repeating funny? I didn’t need to wash it between wears, but I still felt weird wearing it again right away. Anyway. The hat is because I needed to wash my hair, and it was likely to be a pretty relaxed day at work, so I leaned into it. I didn’t roll my sleeves here, but I probably should have.
Outfit 6: I got a little gussied up for date night and stole this jacket from my “formal capsule.” It’s old from Steven Alan, and I got it for a steal on eBay--it’s the perfect jacket for ordering martinis, which I did. I also tried something new with my top, tying my shirttails in a knot. It took me a couple tries to get right, and I ultimately had to move the knot down to just the last bottom button to nail the proportions. It looks a little smashed here under the jacket, and tucking might have been better, but it actually was something I’d try again if wearing the shirt alone. Check it out without the jacket on my instagram.
Outfit 7: I originally had more variety planned for my 10 outfits, but this top-bottom combo just felt right to repeat. I was off to a BBQ with friends, and I love how the Birks give it a much more casual vibe. I kept the shirt big and floaty with a front-tuck. This shirt was one of my biggest “splurges,” even at a huge eBay discount, and it’s been so worth it. It might be one of my favorite shirts ever. And this is probably my favorite outfit of the whole experiment.
Outfit 8: Are you sick of these pants yet? Don’t worry, this is my last wear of them in the challenge. I just wanted to try another something different with the white button-up. I tied it up in a knot, and I think I like it, but not for work. It might work better on the weekend--it just kind of gives me vacation vibes.
Outfit 9: My favorite shirt gets a 3rd repeat, this time with double-rolled sleeves, and a full-tuck. I felt self conscious about how polished this looked, so I ended up pulling the back-tuck out when I got to work, but now I wonder if I should have stuck with it. The jeans are distressed, so I guess it’s not that polished. I really like this color combo of blue, pink, and white--makes me feel very Haley Boyd. I also liked trying this bandana as a neckerchief, inspired by Stephanie.
Outfit 10: I repeated the same color combo from yesterday in a new way, and I like the results. One of the reasons this silk top doesn’t get a lot of wear is because sometimes I think it’s too fancy for everyday, but paired with Converse, it has a new, very chill life. I full tucked my shirt, because a few Insta friends encouraged me to try it again after yesterday.

los juegos de 2016 de oli

My inaugural post on el Super Famigos punto com! Cool beans! :D
So here's my 2016 games list. These are the games I liked most in 2016. In lieu of ranking, I'll list them in alphabetical order. I'll also add some honorable mentions, since I did enjoy them and don't want them to be left out. ;)
The List
Breath of Fire III
(heartthrob credit: BoF wikia)
Fitting that the first on my list would be a SuperFamigos classic!
I picked up Bofee ("Breath of Fire III" -> "BoF III" -> "BoF3" -> "Bofee") after some prodding from my friend Chris. I’ve wanted it for a while, and even played it once, but… I don't have as much patience for JRPGs as I used to, even ones as good as Bofee or Chrono Cross. This time, though, ♪ I had a little help from my friends ♫.
Since SuperFamigos was just starting up, I downloaded OBS and gave streaming Bofee a whirl. And sure enough, broadcasting and interacting with friends via chat is way better than grinding alone. Chris shared all his expert secrets, and I flew through the slogs that stopped me before. And we spawned a whole slew of inside jokes too (oh man Teepo's flowing locks *o*). I haven't played/streamed much recently, due to a combination of old hardware and busy schedules, but with luck I can fire it back up in 2017.
As for the game itself: it's great! Top notch pixel art, animations, and music. Story's a bit slow, though Chris assures me it gets better. Definitely more fun with friends. ...smells burnt
rating: "9/molotov"
Chrono Cross
(stunning opassa credit: Chrono wikia)
Frickin' Chrono Cross! What a sweet game. Beautiful scenery, amazing music, and a genuinely enthralling and mysterious story. I'm still not fully sure what's going on! The battle system can be intense too: trying to fend off the Fire Dragon with only two Revives? Are you kidding me??
I must confess, I got Chrono Cross three Christmases ago. The game has a couple of the same JRPG issues that Bofee has. So my tactic is to whittle away at it, every once in a while. And it's a bit like turning down the lights and sitting back and listening to Kind of Blue on vinyl; you come away feeling well fed.
So why is Chrono Cross on my games of 2016 list? Partly because the OSSC got me hyped to play it on my new HDTV (it was disgusting before) (and it handles the 240p <-> 480i switch quite well), partly because Chris again got me through some tough parts (he’s a boss, seriously), and partly because it's an awesome game and it won't come off my "games of <year>" list until it's beaten. So there.

Downwell
I finally beat Downwell (normal mode) and unlocked all the palettes in 2016. Even then, I haven't stopped playing.
Downwell is the one mobile game I actually enjoy. For all the critically acclaimed mobile games I own, none have kept my attention like console and handheld games do. Except Downwell.
The mobile qualifier is important. Often I was chilling in a café, or waiting in line for a sandwich, or unable to sleep on a redeye flight, or trapped on a god-forsaken Snowpiercer Amtrak to Portland that was 6 hours behind schedule because snow somehow broke the signals and freight trains rule the rails and "we can't tell you if it'll be 30 minutes or 3 hours"
…Anyway. Downwell kept me sane in 2016. I don't even mind the touch controls.*
By the way, here's my fav strat: Floaty. Attract gems + popping gems + gem recharge. Laser if possible, or machine gun / burst / puncher. Combo as much as possible, but only to 25 each.

I know, I know, it's not a game. But it counts as one, because it gave my PS1 a new lease on life.
And what a lease it is! I kid you not, I had serious goosebumps whenever I first fired up wipE'out" XL with this puppy. It was beautiful. I noticed background textures I had never noticed before. Colors popped, not bled. I could read the menu text in wip3out! And no noticeable lag! Game after game, I was amazed at the difference. A major reason these old PS1 games are on my list is the OSSC.
Granted, YMMV; the results aren't nearly as drastic on other TVs I tried. But on mine… There's no going back.

Pokémon Sun
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA (I really like this game.) AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA (There's too much to say.) AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA (Do yourself a favor and give Pokémon Sun/Moon a try.) Pokkén Tournament

Taking a step back for a sec.
Moving to Seattle was hard. It’s still hard. I live by myself, it's my first time working out of college, and sometimes even cooking food is a chore. My life has certainly gotten better now, but those first few months were…hard.
Pokkén was what I played when I wasn't at work. It's a great game, with bumpin' music and satisfying mechanics that I could really get into. But more than that, it was a game that helped me get through a rough time. For that reason alone, I would definitely recommend.

Splatoon

"But Oli, Splatoon came out in—"
Whoa there. Listen up. If you haven't already guessed, this is MY list o' 2016. It doesn't matter when such-and-such game came out. If I played it in 2016, it counts.
…but you do have a point. I didn't get Splatoon until Christmas 2015, which led to me missing a good amount of the summer unveils and hype and such. And online games stress me out, so I had the most fun when I stuck to my niche: off in the corner with my paintbrush, flinging paint errywhere, firin' off torpedoes to the other side, occasionally ninja-ing peeps.
In any case, still played it enough and had fun enough to include it! Very refreshing to see some color and friendly competition in a shooter. Good music and 1P campaign too. I even picked up my first pair of Vans Slip-ons because of this game. Fashion help 10/10.
Splatoon is also one of the Famigos' go-to online games! Several times we'd host a private match and not even battle, but just hang out on the stage, swim around, go explore, etc. Kinda like what we do in real life…except as squid kids.

wip3out

(let’s be friends credit: infoxicated via wipeoutzone)
Until I got the OSSC, this game was literally unplayable on my new HDTV.
Okay, not literally. Seriously though, wip3out** has some of the most succulent graphic design in the industry, and that stinkin' yellow composite cable rendes it muddy, meh, and unreadable. Yuck. wip3out was the second game I tested with the OSSC, and it's easily the best demonstration of the power of upscaling.
But enough about that. wipE'out" (the series) is the beez kneez. What's not to like? Cream-of-the-crop electronic soundtrack, mouthwatering tDR design, spicy-smooth tracks, and rich chocolatey weaponry. That feeling when you tear down the track, barely grazing the wall as you unleash a Quake Disruptor…
wip3out makes my list this year, not just because of the OSSC, not just because it's a filet mignon of a game, but because I freakin' beat Venom Tournament mode for the first time. Even with unfair AI in Sampa Run! ( *`∇ ´ ) And I plan to keep playing for a long time.
Interestingly, although XL/2097 and 3 have very different physics and handling, I can maneuver them both just fine…as long as I don't play them both in the same night. I get so used to one game, that I can't immediately swap discs and play the other without crashing into everything.

Honorable Mentions
Digimon World 3 I inherited this from a neighbor. Popped it in to admire the pixel art with the OSSC. The battle system is confusing, the FMVs are loltastic, but it has some surprisingly good music.
Hyper Light Drifter I really want to like this game more.
I love the music. And the art and atmosphere seriously gave me chills. Absolutely beautiful. But I just couldn't get into the combat: too visceral. I felt...almost dirty playing it. I understand that's kind of the point, but…
Maybe with time I'll get into it.
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime Had a ball playing this at a work game night. Don't have many others to play with though.
Nuclear Throne Lol both Sam and I got the Humble Indie Bundle this year, so we both played lots of Nuclear Throne. Fun (3D glasses Eyes is my man), but a bit too stressful/addictive for me. Had to stop playing for my health.
Pokémon Black 2 I grabbed Black 2 as a birthday gift for myself (I did the same for White in 2015), and to tide me over until Pokémon Sun. To try and mix it up this time around, I played with only three Pokémon for the entirety of my run: an Ice Punch Weavile (bred in White), a Dewott, and a Growlithe. I only caught maybe another five. In the end, though, I didn't level enough and I ground to a halt at the seventh gym.
I think one of the many, many reasons I loved Pokémon Sun was that I dived in headfirst, catching Pokémon, playing minigames, getting invested. Guess I didn't do that as much with Black 2. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
That being said, Black 2 definitely has its moments. There's schweet music, and I still, still prefer the animated sprites to 3D models. (Some of the new Pokémon's models are great, but some are horrible.) Super satisfying to wreck newbs with a Ice Punch to the face. Just sadly overshadowed by Sun.***
Pokémon Emerald Lots of Pokémon on this list, huh? ;)
Got this along with a Game Boy Micro from my friend Cole. Similar with Black 2, I only used a party of four. Again, the music is top notch, and some great battle animations. Unfortunately petered out at Ever Grande City when I stopped taking the bus to/from work (my main time to play).
River City Ransom Lolololololol
Seriously, so silly and fun. Didn't play it much though (maybe an hour when Sam was in town).
* That much. ** Yes, I'm going to do this for the whole article. I don't care. tDR 4 LYFE *** See what I did there?!? ;)
