Fun Samus n Adam fax yayyyy bc I'm writing ANOTHER thing about them

Samus:

she can eat A LOT but she's also fairly picky. She also gets nauseous easily as a lasting effect of Phazon sickness

(EXTREME HEADCANON TERRITORY) Chozo have minimal sex dimorphism and basically no concept of gender - this is why we never see any quote unquote “female” ones (I like to believe their language doesn't even have indicators of gender, i.e. when Raven Beak calls her "nadaha" [daughter] it translates more literally to "child"). so I think the GF Academy was really her first exposure to the complicated world of human gender expression (since the age of 3 at least). she vibes with some of it and really Doesn't vibe with the rest

“Lady” was actually a name she was trying out for a while after joining the Academy (^see above). She warmed up to Adam a Lot when he just went with it. Nowadays she doesn't use it anymore, except in an inside-joke sort of way with him

Loves Joey to death if i'm being honest. she sees him as a little bro and he sees her as The Most Amazing Spectacular Hero In The Universe (as per the s&j comics)

Has complicated feelings about slowly becoming a Metroid. at what point does it stop? can she still call herself a person? it feels to her as though she's lived in a different body at every stage of her life and highkey she's tired of it

Laser-focuses on other people's problems to avoid processing her own. ruh roh

LOVES fixing stuff/solving puzzles and very little can snap her out of it when she's in the zone. she'll often work on her gunship to clear her mind and forget to do anything else

BONUS: some misc. metroid DNA effects

scaly skin on back, arms and calves

raspy scratchy voice (FANS SELF FURIOUSLY) and basically i think if she were to scream it would sound like a metroid shriek

suit develops a ridgy, almost organic texture on the plating; colors shift (less vibrant, starts to tinge with green)

unexplained Cravings. gets real grumpy and finds it hard to think when they hit. anger and stress cause them to flare up especially hard (like in Dread)

something weird with her eyes.....when the cravings hit the irises dilate

Adam:

I usually envision him as anywhere from 10-20 yrs older than Samus

Definitely not weak per se (highly trained soldier. duh) but he's no powerhouse like Samus. easily throwable individual

eyestrain McGee. this guy does not wear his readers as often as he should

tolerates animals and actively avoids young children. I think he could maybe bond with a cat or something if given the chance though

he and ian didn't have much of a choice about going into the military. It was a very strict family tradition

enjoys music a lot. I imagine he'd have a nice singing voice too but this guy would NOT sing i'm sorry

(entirely 100% self-indulgent) his favorite song is Pink Pony Club. The unit was in hysterics upon finding this out

was in advanced placement at the Academy due to being large-brained which meant his classmates were all much older. one of these classmates was Rodney Aran

(more self-indulgence) that being said, the one and only quote unquote "date" he has ever been on was with Rodney, who asked him to the Academy's equivalent of prom. it was uncomfortable and bad

similarly to Samus, he has complicated feelings about the AI situation. that was NOT done with his consent. but at the very least he can finally drop the commander act and just be a catty snark

AI Adam is a lot more talkative than his former self. the main reason for this is that he will no longer lose his job for telling someone to suck his entire ass

Joey reminds him of his brother. who said that

Both:

they don't necessarily Identify as such (I don't think they like. care), but both are likely some flavor of aroace. adam finds the idea of romance/sex borderline repulsive and samus just doesn't think about it often beyond Boobs Are Cool (she does get very flustered when girls are nice to her though)

Sooo introverted YAYYY. lowkey they first bonded over being the quiet ones in their unit (“bonded” meaning they stood next to each other in awkward silence at some sort of gathering and thought aaahhhhh thank god another quiet person)

they're just comfortable around each other idk. it's nice :] on the other hand they also Get On Each Other's Nerves So Enormously Bad

not all is well between them. there is defo some silent resentment on Samus' part for some of his past actions and their way of solving problems does NOT always align. they are, however, making the most of it AND i love them

I can see the kriken empire and the pirates having some sort of an alliance so I wanted to explore that. He also sees my hc of a young ridley as an older brother figure, also joining the pirates due to admiration for him so that's cool ig...

That Omega Ridley vs Sauron (the Marvel character, yes the guy who turns people into dinosaurs) poll in the Metroid tag (a bunch of pages back now) reminds me of how at some point when I didn't know much about Metroid, I thought, because of his relatively mundane human name, that Ridley had been human once. Basically that he was this Mad Scientist type character (not exactly incorrect, but more so) who had used himself as a test subject a liiiittle too much, and now he looks like this. But no, turns out he just. is a space dragon, because that's a normal sapient extraterrestrial species in this series, and honestly that's even better. As for the name,

The serious, semi-TragicBackstory hc: It's a translation of his original name, which is unpronounceable to most other species, and might also just be what the Federation knows him as, while he and the other Pirates call him a related word in their own language(s). Ridley spent his early childhood as a feral little critter in the wilderness of Zebes, mostly the surface and shallow caves, which are not exactly known as an environment the most hospitable to life. He presumably had biological parents, but by the time he hatched they were nowhere to be found, so he raised himself from birth (and he turned out fine!). "Ridley" as a name derived from Old English means "reed clearing" or "cleared land", but he's been around for a while and his name has gone through several languages and a few broken-telephone mutations along the way, starting out with a meaning closer to "empty/barren land". Sometimes people are named after their parents, Ridley named himself after the only one he had.

The funny hc: Ridley's name is an Alien reference in-universe, too. Assuming Metroid takes place in the future of our universe, that would probably mean all real-life media other than Metroid itself exists there, and, well, Ridley just really likes Alien. The xenomorph was his first crush (they look like him!). But he figured it would be less embarrassingly obvious if he picks something like the movie's director's name instead ("Sigourney" was a close second, but a little too traceable to the source).

Also space dragon called Ridley is just the reverse of human trans people deliberately naming ourselves things not usually considered to be names.

the samus cameo in kirby dreamland 3 is a tone whiplash in both a halirous way and scary way

samus this traumatized yet stone-cold bounty hunter who, trough trail and tribulations, has defeated multiple apex predators and beat two different plagues that threaten to take over the entire galaxy, both of which were sentient one them was half symbiote, half zombie plauge and the other was invasion of the body snatchers.

was taken in by race of wise sages like aliens after her parents were murderd by space pirates only for that same alien race to destroyed by the Metroid so she had her whole family die TWICE, when she was just seconds away from revenge the last metroid imprinted on her (after samus killed its actually parent btw) so she learned to empathize with it,only for THAT LITTE GUY TO DIE TOO!

THIS SAME WOMAN HAS KIRBY ON HER CONTACTS LIST!

(and I will forever hc them as drinking buddies just for the comedy of it)

And don't get me started on the implications of humans in the kirby universe

I like to think of another universe, maybe a future in our own, where Metroid gets an animated series adapting the game arcs, while having episodic stories both between and even as a part of said arcs. And some of those episodes are about Samus individually meeting fellow hunters Rundas, Ghor, and Gandrayda; With these stories culminating in all four teaming up together for a challenging mission that they barely succeed in. Cue the four celebrating together, becoming good friends as Samus gets some actual happiness and new connections.

So while most of the fandom, the newcomers, are posting fluff and fanart and HCs, veterans who know what happens next are just spamming memes like:

Anyways Hi, I drop off some stuff.

Particularly Become the Hunted stuff, this is the only project I will ever have games crossed together until otherwise noted. Also the time where my biggest HCs come out 👍

My hc Samus body type. wanted her to be slightly inhuman in her proportions due to the Chozo DNA spicing. I want her to look like she fits in that weirdly shaped alien armor. Still not super happy with it, some day I will be worthy of drawing my wife TToTT

other hcs I have: her fingernails are black and hard like bird talons, if she grows them out they'll be sharp too. The metroid DNA in her gives her subtle fangs. A residual effect of the phazon corruption is her sclera is a bright shimmery cyan blue. basically she's petri dish of subtle mutations she's accrued on her adventures

So, I haven't had time to do pretty much anything the last two weeks, but thankfully yesterday a large chunk of my family was over so I had time to start on these guys. Chibis have never been my strength and these are far from done, but I found some good references and I wanted to try some and figured why not do it with the batsibs?

I need to fix Jason big time and Damian and Dick's hair isn't my favorite, but I'll try tweaking them, but Duke was hard to find any reference for that didn't just give him a buzzcut and Damian's type of hair has always been a nightmare for me. As for Tim, just ignore that abomination, only thing I could say that I enjoyed was I couldn't find a good skin tone for him that was pale enough so I paint bucketed him with low opacity white paint fill and couldn't stop chuckling cause I painted him like a drag queen.
