Shigaraki's Mall Scene is actually SUPER SAD!

I want to write some thoughts about Shigaraki's mall scene. It's always been a sad one to me.

The more you find out about what AFO did to him the more you realize that it's not the turning point he thinks it is; it's proof of his indoctrination.

When I first watched/read this scene, I always thought it was odd how Tomura shows up hating and wanting to kill All Might, and then somehow has a moment of clarity later…about the same thing?

Why would he be excited to find out that nothing has changed?

In the context of a cult though, it makes total sense.

the victim learns the doctrine and parrots it.

they are challeged by someone, and cognitive dissonance kicks in.

Tomura's cognitive dissonance moment was Stain.

Some cult victims go through "consolidation".

It's when the victim decides to take ownership of the cult's ideals as their /own/ in order to gain relief from challenge.

This is MY conclusion. These are MY thoughts and I've ALWAYS felt this way.

In reality, this wasn't some big revelation moment for Tomura. He consolidated AFO's indoctrination as his own.

That is a devastating step in AFO's favor, and that is why it is sad. Honestly I doubt Tomura had any other choice here but to consolidate for his own comfort.

And that's why mha379 is important. It's when Tomura breaks free from AFO's doctrine for good.

It's no longer about All Might or society, it's about That House. The thing that speaks to Tomura the most.

HIS thoughts and HIS hopes alone.

It had been three years since you last met Shoto in person; so when you saw him standing near a bus stop, your heart skipped like it always used to do when you were still together.

You stared in the distance, hesitating about going to greet him. Just like he had felt your gaze, he turned to meet your eyes. His face lit up, and instantly walked towards you.

Your heart sank with every step he took to get closer, and you couldn't help the smile that was growing in your face.

"Hi." He greets, with a breathy voice.

"Hey! How have you been? It's been a while!" You chuckled. It really was nice to see him, but you were feeling a mix of nostalgia and sadness at how changed he looked.

"Yeah, it has! I've been good; everything as usual," he laughs. "What about you?" Shoto looked relaxed and confident, you wondered if he felt as nervous as you were.

"Me too! I'm doing good, on some new stuff." You answered, and cackled anxiously.

"Really? What's new?" He asked.

"Oh well, you know... I got a new job, I've been trying new hobbies..." You answered a little ambiguos, not sure how much detail you should reveal.

"Been saying yes instead of no, I see. Sounds nice." Shoto smiled at you, and the feelings in your heart intensified.

It felt foolish to figure out how much Shoto still belonged in your heart, so you tried to keep the conversation as cool as you could.

"What about all your cool hero work? Any new adventures on your own?" You asked him.

"Not much has changed, really. The usual patrolling and a few cases of bigger villains." He shrugged, and you hummed in understanding.

"What are you doing here anyway?" You asked.

"I'm currently patrolling. Do you want to tag along?" He nudged you encouragingly, and the contact made you feel like you were shocked with electricity.

You were on your way to buy groceries, but it was still early, so you had a few minutes to spare.

"Sure." You nodded, and smiled.

You walked around the blocks that Shoto was patrolling. The conversation continued with you talking about how you both were doing, the updates in your life, you both criticising new films...

Althroughout your chat with Shoto, your mind was flooded with flashbacks. It felt really good to be with him; it was almost like how it had been at the beginning of your relationship, like the chemistry between the two of you had grown, instead of dissapearing in the time you had not seen each other. The only difference was, that Shoto seemed more open and expressive. This made you feel happy for him, but resented at the thought that you wished he had been like that when you were together.

You two had ended mainly in good terms; but one of the reasons that you had broken up, was that you felt like he rarely showed up his love towards you. You knew he was someone who kept to himself in general, but as time passed, it became more difficult to feel loved by him. After you broke up, time had made you lose contact with each other.

As you kept walking and chatting, you suddenly arrived to a small neighborhood. There was a park, with a playground and a small fountain in the middle.

"Do you still like to toss coins and make wishes?” Shoto asked.

“I don’t know how you still remember that.” You laughed, feeling a warm spreading in your chest.

“You used to do it every time you saw a fountain. And you would never tell me what you wished for.” Shoto cackled at the memory, and hearing his laugh made you realize how much you had missed it.

A question started to linger in your mind, but you shrugged it off, resisting the temptation to ask it.

“If you wish out loud, it won’t come true!” You said.

“Right. I have a few coins if you want to toss one” Shoto offered, and a smile grew in your face.

"Well, why not? Let's both do it!" You chuckled and you walked towards the fountain; Shoto handed you the coin and you closed your eyes for a second, as you focused on your wish.

When you opened your eyes, Shoto was looking at you.

“Ready?” He asked, and you nodded.

You both tossed your coins, watching how they plopped in the water. You stared at the coins for a few more seconds, trying to avoid Shoto's gaze. You were not sure if the tension you were feeling was mutual, or if it was all in your head.

"We should head back; it's getting late." Shoto's voice broke the silence, and you agreed with a nod.

The walk back to the bus stop was quieter, but the silence was comfortable. You were enjoying the stroll, feeling the cool air brushing your hair.

As you arrived to the bus stop, the question you had brushed off earlier returned.

'If one thing had been different, would everything be different today?'

But as you fought the temptation to ask it, Shoto's phone buzzed, jolting both of you from your thoughts.

"I'm sorry, I gotta go. Uraraka set me up with some woman on the internet and I'm running late." Shoto said, sending an apologetic look towards you.

"Oh! Yeah, don't worry. Have fun!" You answered, not sure why you heart ached.

"Have a safe way home. I hope the wish you asked for comes true." Shoto offered a last smile, before parting ways.

You stood for a few seconds watching his figure dissapear in the distance. You felt how your heart broke again, while thinking,

'If my wishes came true, it would have been you...'

Trying to find these fics…..

I need some help finding these 2 fics I’ve read:

Fic 1:

I’ve been think about this BnHA/MHA fic that crossed my mind again but I can’t find it anymore on AO3. It’s a Bakudeku fic, possible one shot, where it’s NYE or something. Class 1A is having a party and Bakugou is getting the courage to ask out Izuku at midnight but before he could, Uraraka and Deku kiss. ( I don’t think it’s an Uraraka hate fic, it’s just bad timing ) The Bakusquad sees and in an attempt to comfort Bakugou, they all take turns kissing him, which makes Deku slightly jealous I think. That’s all I remember but I tried to find it and no matter my tags it’s not popping up and I’m trying to remember how it ends.

Fic 2:

This a 911 fic for Buddie also on AO3. It’s a s4 Eddie’s shooting aftermath where he ends up in a coma. In the coma he has a dream where ends up an alternate universe where he is married to Buck and they moved into this new home and have clearly beautiful life together. I remember something like he goes to the kitchen and sees Chris’ backpack on the new kitchen counter, and his & Buck’s turnouts by the door and photos on the fridge. He ends up want to stay in this Eddie’s life because it’s perfect but eventually hears real life Buck asking him to wake up. Eventually he does because he has to break up with Ana before confessing to Buck. I used to have this fic saved but I lost it and can no longer find it.

Blades loves Anime, specifically MHA(My Hero Academia)

Hotshot is good with dates, physics,geometry,and also BODMAS.

Hoist is an animal and nature lover.

Boulder is the tallest in human form.

Whirl loves doing gymnastics.

Blades is the shortest in human form.

The Bots and Recruits have special necklaces and earrings with Energon crystals so they can turn human.

Heatwave and Quickshadow are together(married)sparkmates.

Wedge loves to tease Hotshot.

Chase is the fastest, and loves writing poems and stories.

Bumblebee is Blades’ best friend, and sees him as a brother.

Medix and Ratchet are related. Medix is Ratchet’s nephew.

Heatwave and Hotshot see each other as father and son. In fact, Heatwave adopted Hotshot. 

Blurr is now a mentor at the academy, and his student is Snowflake(MY TFRBA oc)

Salvage makes new inventions with Frankie,Hoist and Doc Greene.

Medix is more mature and tries to go with the flow. But he does have autism and OCD. But he’s even funnier.

Hoist and Grimlock are buddies now.

Boulder is good with haircuts,he actually cut Blades’ hair for the first time.

Wedge tries to be tough,but he’s a big softie.

Chase is more funny, and he would sometimes let the recruits take breaks.

Blades adopts a human girl named Meg after he and the team had saved her from bad foster care. He also adopted a young female baby Autobot named Arix.

The Rescue Bots and Recruits love playing games like Roblox, Minecraft and Gartic Phone.

Hotshot and Whirl both have ADHD.

Medix may have developed love interest for Snowflake.

Blades is married to his soulmate and teammate,Windblade!

Blades has agrophobia and is timid most of the time.

Blurr goes through depression and sometimes isn’t sure if he was meant to be a Rescue Bot.

Whirl sees Chase as not only her idol, but as her dad and protector.

Cody would sometimes tell stories to the rescue bots.

Dani and Taylor started dating. 

Chase is autistic.

Salvage is the second tallest in human form.

Quickshadow is the second shortest in human form.

Quickshadow loves spy movies and mystery films.

Blurr sings and writes his own songs and Salvage has known for a long time.

Heatwave enjoys watching rom-coms with Quickshadow.

In the future, Cody and Frankie get married.

Whirl and Hoist have feelings for each other.

There are tales about the Griffin Rock mermaid, and it’s real.

Sirena is the mermaid of Griffin Rock.

Dr Morocco once mind controlled Blades with a micro-chip to kill all the Rescue Bots and Recruits at the academy.

Heatwave and Blades are the only Rescue Bots married so far.

Hoist can be clumsy at times with inventions.

Medix not only likes bats and dogs, but he’s a big softie for cats.

Heatwave can have a big soft spot for babies.

Boulder likes watching earth romance movies.

The Burns family have necklaces with a bit of Energon crystals to have connections with the bots.

Blades once got near some sort of flower, it was actually a bush daisy, and he had an allergic reaction to them.

Hoist is allergic to pollen and peanuts.

Whirl loves watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine with Chase.(has to do with cops)

Chief Burns was Doc Greene’s best man in his wedding with Professor Ana Baranova.

Hotshot isn’t good at trying to not to laugh challenges.

Cody wants to be like his dad(Chief Burns), a police officer like him.

Snowflake(my RBA OC) is the shortest of the group, yet tries to be agile. But she’s more on the gentle and sweet caring side of her.

Hotshot hugged Heatwave hard when there was an alligator or a crocodile near the academy. Hotshot is scared of big reptiles.

Wedge is still afraid of heights. He developed acrophobia(fear of heights), just like Blades.

Bumblebee knows sign language.

Hotshot is going through a bit of depression, and also tries to not feel sad when he thinks about his real parents and what happened to them.

Graham finally shared his feelings with Amy, and now they’re dating.

For your Dabi question:

I've been in the fandom since couple years before the reveal, and based on what I remember, most people already thought that Dabi was Touya. We didn't know what Touya's name was for a long time, so people just made something up. The most used name I think was Ryoto? Ryuko? Ry- something.

Additionally, before we first saw Natsuo, people thought that the "eldest Todoroki son" was the taller boy in the flashback. (When Geten showed up, I remember that some people thought that he was Touya lol)

Back to fanfiction, the things that were made up for the longest time was his upbringing, personality, and how he "died." Many, many people assumed that Touya was trained like how Shouto was and that he died in a training accident at the house. Yes, Touya was trained when he was very young, but we thought that Enji pushed him through his dangerous quirk and that Touya didn't like training. People didn't quite expect that Enji immediately pushed Touya aside when his quirk started hurting him and that Touya WANTED to train anyways.

Oh man this is going to be longer than I thought! Sorry.

I've also seen some fanart and fanfiction where Dabi was a full on teenager when Shouto was a toddler. Because Fuyumi, Natsuo, and Shouto are around 4 years apart, people thought that Touya was 4 years older than Fuyumi.

Many pre-reveal depictions of Touya had him be this rebellious 16 year old bad boy who hated Enji and didn't want anything to do with him. What we got was a tiny 13 year old who was desperate for his neglectful father's attention. Sorry again for the word wall lol

Saw a post on tumblr that went something like

“If fiction didn’t matter at all in real life, wouldn’t it then be okay to portray abusive relationships as normal and romantic?”

And I’m out here saying: yes. It is. It’s fine, really

The reason I’m saying this is because it’s fantasy. Fantasy can be enticing, just like daydreams, but reality is not.

For example, you can fantasize about getting into battles like your heroes in MHA or Kill la Kill but you wouldn’t go through with it irl because it comes with consequences (and it hurts)

50 shades portrayed an abusive relationship throughout the books and movies, but no one actually thinks a relationship Ana and Grey had in the stories works in real life

Real life abuse is never as pretty or romantic as in these stories. You can close the book you’re reading if you don’t like it, but you can’t escape an abusive relationship very easily. And speaking of, abusers in real life aren’t like the people in fiction.

Abusers are charming, they don’t reveal their true colors until they make their already traumatized victim financially or emotionally dependent on them. And even if young people don’t know better, it’s usually called out by someone else pretty quickly

I just don’t understand why people are so scared of stories that aren’t instructive and who don’t teach only good things, our morals aren’t based on what fiction we read/watch after all
