“And miss seeing you?” Draco scoffed. “Never in a million years, Potter.”

this was really fucking fluffy. and also, at the end, when they’re hugging, i entirely picture in tangled when rapunzel saves eugene and they’re hugging on the tower floor and he like tightens the hug. just saying.

“i got you something.”

james’ smile is bursting at the seams, closing the door with his foot as he digs through his backpack. he pulls out a small box, thrusting it towards regulus in excitement. “what is it?”

james says nothing, he just keeps on smiling. regulus tries to swallow the small bubble of anxiety as he tears away the awkwardly wrapped paper and clutches the small box.

he slowly opens the lid, scaring himself a little when it flies open. his eyes widen and his jaw drops as he looks up at james in surprise. “you didn’t.”

“i did,” james reaches for the box, which regulus hands over. james takes out the ring, shaped like a stag head with the main face made up on the smallest diamonds. they’d seen the ring a while back, and regulus made a comment about how it looks like a cute engagement ring.

but he never imagined james would buy it.

“regulus arcturus potter,” he grins, sliding down onto one knee in the middle of their muggle london apartment. “will you marry me?”

the slytherin tries to suppress his smile as he dives forwards, knocking james backwards onto the floor in a bear hug. they’re both laughing, and regulus feels his heart soaring.

“yeah,” he whispers, pressing a kiss to james’ jaw as the older lad tightens his grip. “course i will, jamie.”

thoughts on Ginny and Harry as a couple?

There are a lot of people who find their romance in HBP forced. I don't think it's forced so much as underwritten, and the books don't get the chemistry quite right (though the movies certainly don't, either). There's potential, but they just don't get enough actual scenes of substance (besides Harry thinking she's pretty or feeling jealous of Dean) for a lot of readers to buy that they're not only in love, but deeply enough in love to break up, get back together, and wind up married.

That's not to say I don't see the appeal. There's a very cool scene in Book 5 where Harry's doing a woe-is-me-Chosen-One act, and Ginny effortlessly puts him in his place about it by reminding him that she was possessed by Voldemort at eleven, which is a rare glimpse into her character and also a great synecdoche for their relationship — Ginny is a grounding presence who, like Ron and Hermione, isn't going to be awed by his past adventures because she knew him before they happened. In that respect, Ginny's probably one of the few women Harry could feasibly wind up with, because he only ever seems comfortable around people (let alone girls) who can see past the Chosen-One schtick and treat him like a normo (see: Ron, Hermione, the Weasleys, Luna, Hagrid). True to type, he doesn't get interested in Ginny at all until she's ditched her celebrity crush and ceased to view him as an idol, because in his heart of hearts, Harry wants to be a normal boy, and it's stressed over and over that part of what he likes about his relationship with Ginny is how normal it feels. He kind of has a horribly supercharged version the celebrity dating problem: after the Battle of Hogwarts, anyone he meets is going to know him first as Harry Potter, Chosen One, Boy Who Lived, and Actually Fucking Resurrected Messiah of the Wizarding World, which is... I mean, it's possible that there are witches out there who could get over that, but Harry's not an extroverted guy, and I'm not sure how he'd go about finding them. Ginny's the one who's been there since the beginning, doesn't need anything about him or his past explained to her, and actually likes him for who he is.

When you look at it that way, it's not surprising he married his high school girlfriend. She's one of the few people still alive who doesn't see him as a demigod.

AN: Well, I’m back!  And so is our favorite pub quiz gang (I swear we’re almost out of the pub).  As always read at your own risk, I have not been proofing this one.

James Potter’s forearms were incredibly distracting.  Well, at least they were to Lily, at any rate.  It was all fine and manageable at the beginning of the quiz, when the sleeves of James button down shirt were where they were supposed to be.  But then, at some point the sleeves were rolled up in that female gaze sort of way, and boom, Lily’s head was very much out of the pub quiz game.  And then there was the mash incident.  Didn’t fit guys know you couldn’t just casually wipe a bit of mash from a girl’s mouth?  Lily knew she was going to get a lot of mileage out of that moment; perhaps his thumb turning into his lips…

“Thanks, uncle. Glad you approve,” Remus grinned. “Got a table for two?”

“Always, my boy. This way,” Ahmad replied, and began leading them through the dimly lit restaurant.

As they walked, Sirius looked around at the place. He’d never been to a Lebanese restaurant before, but he imagined that this one had to be the most beautiful one to exist. There was lots of gold everywhere, and all of the walls were solid, old-looking beige stone. It looked a bit like a cave, done up with fairy lights, with healthy, dark green plants trailing in any space they’d fit. It was like they’d been transported out of London and had landed in an entirely magical place, within seconds.

“Here you go, Remus,” Ahmad said, grabbing his nephew’s face in both hands and squeezing a little. Sirius caught the slow blush of red that crept up Remus’ cheeks, and thought it was the loveliest thing he’d ever seen, but looked away to avoid embarrassing him further. Instead, he slid into the booth they’d been led to, and picked up the menu to look.

Eventually, Remus was released and came to sit opposite Sirius.

“Ah, sorry about that,” Remus said, looking awkward. “Haven’t been here in a while.”

“Don’t be sorry, it’s cute,” Sirius replied. “He your uncle?”

“Yeah, my dad’s brother. Good guy. Makes killer Dolma.”

“Oh yeah? You’ll have to show me,” Sirius said, looking at Remus over the top of his menu.

“I can do that,” Remus replied, eyes not leaving Sirius’ for a moment.

Summary:

Remus finds himself in the strange situation of carrying around a rose in the middle of London. When he decides to give the rose to a stranger in a random act of kindness, he does not expect to see them again. Certainly not when crammed together on a busy tube.

This fic is partially inspired by true events which I explain in the end notes on ao3. The pictures I used here will also make sense if you read the fic, which I’d love if you did!

These pictures were all taken by me in London, the rose being the very one that inspired this story - yes hand reveal guys 😲. The chopstick bowl was actually across from a pub called The Starman I sat in, named after David Bowie because it was just near the spot where the cover photo for the Ziggy Stardust album was taken. Remus would definitely also do this.

the time when you were mine (9404 words) by renaissance Rating: Teen And Up Audiences modern AU, muggle AU Summary: The walk from Grimmauld Place to Parliament Hill is just under an hour, but it’s easier going at four in the morning.

Quote: Remus—Sirius doesn’t want to ask, but he’s been bad since summer started. The happiest Sirius had seen him was two weeks ago; it was raining and they were at James and Lily’s place, went outside into the back garden and got soaked, and didn’t kiss, but only because Remus didn’t take the bait when Sirius leant in and shut his eyes and let the rain pool in the dip of his Cupid’s bow, and when he’d opened his eyes Remus was back under shelter, grabbing another beer and laughing with Peter about something, and Sirius stood there like a tool with his lips puckered. James had come up behind him and grabbed his shoulder and said, “Mate,” and nothing else—the rest was implicit.

Sirius had taken so long to make a move that he deserved it, really.

Comment: This is another personal favorite of mine. I love how everything happens within such a short timeframe around 4am, and the combination of Siriius POV-stream of conciousness while he's walking to see Remus and the texting works so, so well. The whole story is so dynamic and wonderful and just perfectly captures how everything feels a bit different in the hours just before sunrise.

There are some heavier mental health themes, so I'd recommend reading the tags just to be safe.
