“Remember! The harder the growing, the higher the grading!” Growled the teacher as the rest of his class started to pack their things and leave.

Mr. Derwen Pembroke was Madam Sprout’s gloomier Welsh replacement after the war. Of the few teachers left, not many came back to Hogwarts. The lack of staff meant that he was the only herbology professor, one who hated teaching introduction classes, as he felt he was overqualified. He constantly reminded his students of it and only kept his rudeness to a minimum with his Advanced crew. As a Herbology 101 student, Draco absolutely despised him.

“Mister Malfoy.” Draco stopped at the door. “You are failing my class.” He turned around and walked deeper inside the class towards his incredibly bored-looking teacher. “Actually, I believe I am not, Professor.” Mr. Pembroke rolled his eyes and put his feet up on his already muddy desk. “You’re right, I’m sorry. You are not failing.” Draco felt he was being condescending. “Yet.” Of course he was. “But, if your thumb doesn’t get as green as that damn tie very soon, you most definitely will be.” He sighs “I would like for you to be tutored for this assignment. Mr. Longbottom should be at the AH2 greenhouse right about now. He’ll explain everything.” Draco nodded, keeping his groaning hushed as he turned to leave the classroom. “One more thing.” Mr. Pembroke stopped him. “Don’t ever try to correct me again, Mr. Malfoy. No one likes a smartass.” The boy didn’t argue, he knew better than to bargain with a snake. “Of course, Professor.” “Don’t be a suck up either.” He was taken aback. What did this man want? But, Derwen laughed before he had the chance to finish his thought. “I’m just kidding, Draco. Don’t be so uptight.” “Well, there’s not much left for me to be now, is there, Sir?” “Smartass.” He snorts.

AH2 meant Advanced Herbology II. Their greenhouse was farther from the castle and closer to the forest, and only AH2 students or personally approved ones, like Draco, were allowed to use it. The small runned down shack didn’t interest many students, anyway. It looked old and disheveled, nothing very appealing.

When he got there, the so-called greenhouse was empty and Neville was nowhere to be found. He wasn’t really in the mood to look for him, so he hovered around all the weird looking plants, many of which he had never even seen before.

As he walked, he noticed a small passage towards what seemed to be like an extension of the place. It ended up being much bigger than what it hinted to from the outside, probably by an Undetectable Extension charm, like the one he used for his bag. It looked more like a national botanical garden than a stupid herbology class greenhouse. Entering the room, a faint melody could be heard from what Draco assumed to be the solarium.

When Draco walked into the sunlit room, he saw her. He saw the bows in her hair first. They were yellow like her skirt and the laces on her shoes.

“Are you lost?” The girl asked without turning around. Draco’s taken aback. He didn’t think she had even noticed his presence. “What?” “I’m asking if you are lost.” She says matter-of-factly. “Oh. Well, I guess I kind of am.” He tries to find the right words by rubbing the back of his neck, “...Sorry.” but she turns to face him with a bright smile he definitely didn’t expect. “No worries! I completely understand. This place is an absolute maze!” Her laugh was warm and it made the boy dizzy. Haven’t heard anyone be so friendly to him in a long time, he tries to change the conversation, so as to not think about it too much. “I’m actually waiting for Longbottom.” “That makes sense.” She smiles. “You can wait here if you want. He shouldn’t take long.” Turning back to caring for her plants, she shifts on her feet. “So… what are you working on?”

Hey, I know the Regulus adopts Harry trope is all fun and games and I love it but like you can't honestly tell me that he wouldn't (also) cuasi-adopt Draco, Luna and Neville because like

Are you seriously telling me that Regulus wouldn't be the proud uncle of his favourite cousin's son!? He would probably steal Draco at least twice a week!

That he wouldn't have his bestie's daughter at his house as many days as the year have? He would probably take Luna and Harry on vacations. To the beach or the mountains together they go. And when Pandora died he would offer all the help possible to Xenophilius, and he would tell Luna, just as he does Harry, stories of her mum, and she had always been his Soulmate even though they would never have a romantic relationship. Also he would raise hell the first time he heard about Luna being bullied.

Then whe have Neville, who is such a sweet kid, and after hearing that it was his cousin the one that did that to his parents he can't help but feels guilty. So he goes and apologises to Augusta. And somehow, she had just lost her son, and she feels old, and has found herself raising a toddler. So she accepts his apology, because he's young and somehow he reminds him a little to the boy she lost. So she cries, and is Regulus the one that is there that day and many others. And from that moment on, Neville becomes a common fixture to Regulus's house. There aren't going to be any window child dropping this time around.

And Harry couldn't be happier, it was strange at first. Finding himself suddenly in the care of this man child of wizard. But he feels safe. And loved. Oh so loved. So he never felt jealous when kids started appearing, in fact he is just happy about it all in general. Having a parent, having siblings, and cousin and a sister in all but blood. So he feels content.

Also, Regulus having to send three of his children to Howarts at the same time is just an emotional wreck

His (Chatty) Hufflepuff-Neville Longbottom

Neville wasn’t exactly the most extroverted person. He was typically quiet and didn’t say too much in class unless called upon. He had very few friends, and he honestly kept to himself a lot. Neville was picked on and teased for being ‘forgetful’ and sometimes, it made him sad, but he knew that what the people said was true, so he didn’t mind all too much. 

You on the other hand were like a bouncy ball. You’d talk and talk and talk until you physically could not. You were very energetic and tended to convey that into your words. You had quite a few friends and you were known for talking really fast. People liked you, and knew you as ‘the energetic Hufflepuff’. You had a habit of telling everyone everything and some found it quite annoying, but you didn’t care. 

Thats why, when Neville asked you out one day during fourth year, people were surprised when you said yes. They were even more surprised when you two continued to date for the years following. You and Neville were polar opposites and people found it odd that you two had been together for so long. 

“His quietness would send me through the roof.” Some people would say.

Or

“She’s too loud, and she is quite energetic. I would get annoyed quickly.” Others would say.

But, you never listened to them. Probably because you were too focused on talking to Neville. 

“OH OH OH OH OH. AND THEN, and then Cathrine told Henry that she never actually liked him! Can you believe that? After seven years together you think she would’ve truly liked him. I mean, if it was me, I would’ve never been with Henry because I’m convinced his favorite food is garlic bread! He always smells like garlic. I actually like Garlic I think it's yummy. And I like dipping it in pasta. Do you like Pasta Neville?” 

Neville smiled up at you from where he was sitting. He was trying to do his herbology homework but he was so engrossed in listening to you that his homework had made its way back into his bag. You two were sitting underneath the tree in the courtyard, and Neville watched as you laughed and smiled. Truth is, he was more paying attention to your lips moving and the sound of your laugh than your story, but he still answered you. 

“I like Pasta.” 

“Oh that's good because I LOVE Pasta, if I could eat pasta everyday I could. Well, maybe not everyday because I would get sick of it, and if I got sick of pasta I would be so sad because I LOVE pasta Neville. I really like when they put that white sauce on the pasta too, with the chicken. OH speaking of chicken, did you know my brother has a chicken farm in Italy! He raises chickens, Neville! Can you believe that?”

“I cannot.” 

“Me either, I could never be around chickens. They smell and they are very very loud. Kind of like Henry. OH OH OH Did I tell you that Henry and Cathrine aren’t together? They broke up because Cathrine said that she never liked him.”

You continued to talk, all your stories and little speeches always got mixed and tangled together, but you somehow managed to always bring it back to the main point. 

Neville sat in the courtyard listening to you rant about everything for the next hour, but he didn’t mind it. He loved the way your voice sounded, how you would laugh at your own jokes and the way you always asked him a question every now and then to keep him interested in the conversation. 

People walked past and they wondered how you two could stand each other. But you knew that with Neville’s quietness, and your chattiness, you were a perfect match. And no one could ever make you think otherwise.

38. this is not a headcanon but the wandlore of Draco having a unicorn hair in his wand and the unicorn hair wizards being the most difficult to turn evil and his wand ultimately being the one to defeat voldemort is sooooooo. I have read far to many fics for my liking that have one of Fralice cheating on the other. Give them any other storyline if you really want them to break up for a while in your fic before getting back together use one of Fralice’s parents hating their partner or they grow apart or they are a very different person around others or they break up after an abortion or if you really want to have a cheating storyline involving Fralice maybe that is how Fralice gets together by one or both of them cheating on their partner and the fall out of that. I absolutely hate the Fralice trope come up with something original cheating is not the only way to make them interesting.

Frank and Alice will sometimes use muggle fighting techniques on Death Eaters when they are bored

Augusta tolerated his friendship with the bastard (Alice) only because she came along with her family and they would not leave her home

Frank gave Alice hair combs and eventually began to make them so Alice has a large collection

Harry Potter for the ask game?

Favorite Male: Albus Dumbledore (He's my favorite character overall - so complicated and layered with so many shades of grey! Such a great sense of humor! So many great quotes!)

Favorite Female: Luna Lovegood (We'd totally be besties if we went to Hogwarts at the same time - especially because I'd be in Ravenclaw too. I had a couple friends in college who were a very similar flavor of dreamy-and-thought-of-as-odd-but-actually-super-cool.)

Favorite Pairing: Hmm...probably Romione, mostly because we got to see its slow development up close. I can't stand them being dumb jerks to each other and others in HBP, but in a way that makes it even more satisfying to see them mature into an actually good, supportive couple in DH.

Least Favorite Character: Dolores Umbridge (Isn't she everyone's?)

Most Like Me: .____________. *blank stare* I'm...not sure any of them are much like me at all. I identify with little bits and pieces of characters here and there, but they're often so much larger than life that I don't really see much similarity with boring ol' me. I mean...I would love to say that I'm like Griselda Marchbanks, the inspiration for my writing pseudonym, but...I'm not really. I guess if I have to pick someone, I'll go with Remus Lupin - particularly as he was in his Hogwarts years. A good student, amazed to discover that he actually has friends, too afraid to speak up or stop them from doing what he knows is wrong, for fear of being alone again. Yep. That could be me.

Most Attractive: Sirius Black (Please note I'm going from my imagination when reading the books, not from the movies. Gary Oldman is great and all, but...sorry, I don't find him particularly attractive. The Sirius who lives rent-free in my brain, on the other hand, especially pre-Azkaban....)

Susan Pevensie x bestie!reader - its day after valentines and both girls are talking about all these chockolates susan got from boys, while eating the same chockolates. Edmund Pevensie x gf!reader - they are going on a costume party, and at the moment are still at home, and edumnd is going as a king, and reader as a queen and Edmund says something cheesy like "you would be perfect queen for me" or idk just,,, I mean he would think that he would take her as his wife in Narnia when he was a king there, right, and would somehow say that aloud. ANYHOW they would end up beeing blushy mess bc it was so sweet

It's actually good that you send me all the suggestions in one ask - it would be okay too if you send them separately, but I probably won't be linking the asks in suggested fics anymore, so I don't need them that way, and it'll be easier for me to have this just one post. So don't worry! And you don't need to resend anything later (unless you have any new ideas, you can send those!!! haha)

For the reader's gender, I decided I'll write with the female reader more often so it's okay if you see it this way too, but there will be exceptions and I can already see one of your ideas would be an exception. We'll get to that in a while though :D

For the ideas, I really love number 1 and 3-5. Those suggestions are therefore accepted. :D I was going to go into detail why but I feel like I'd be just repeating myself. So yeah, I'll just say that. I'll put them on my to-do list in a moment. ;)

For suggestion 2, I think I'll have to reject it. As much as I love Penguin and Gotham... I don't know, I don't really feel it at the moment. I might come back to it later but not now. This is the idea I'd likely write the gender neutral reader though - coding the specifically as female would feel wrong to me. I won't go into much detail since I don't want to spoil things for you, but people who have seen season 3 probably know what I'm thinking about.

But yeah, 4 out of 5 suggestions are accepted and I actually feel inspired for them so that's good. I should work on everything in the next few days, as well as on my own ideas. We canonically know Neville is aware of what happened to his parents, considering he appears to frequently visit them and thus must be aware of the fact that 4 Death Eaters tortured them into insanity (we don’t exactly who did what during the Longbottom attack, but BCJ, Rodolphus, Rabastan, and Bellatrix were all arrested for this crime so we can assume that there was some level of involvement from them and like, even if it’s just standing guard while the others do the torturing, still complicit) since like, that seems to be common knowledge among adults so I doubt he’s visiting but has no clue what happened to them and also surely someone explained to him why his parents weren’t around once he got old enough to notice that. Even setting aside how incredibly screwed up it is to use Neville as the demonstration in the Boggart lesson (I’m well aware it’s more likely that the exact details of what happened to Frank and Alice hadn’t been hashed out yet, but in universe, Remus evidently decided that the kid whose parents were murdered by Voldemort had the risk of showing everyone Voldemort, but the child with the tortured parents did not have the risk of showing everyone Bellatrix Lestrange. Remus’s mind is a baffling place, it seems), there’s the fact that Snape is more terrifying to Neville than say, a Death Eater or Bellatrix or Voldemort himself. Nothing is ever done about this, and in fact it’s treated like a joke. I know there’s the whole “oh, Boggarts don’t show your real biggest fear, just what you think it is” argument, but it still means that Neville himself considers Snape more terrifying than the people who tortured his parents into permanent insanity. I need answers and also the Hogwarts staff should be investigated by whatever agency would be in charge of child safety there.
