i wrote a short off fic! this was born partially out of desire to write something fun and lighthearted (...for the most part), and partially out of the desire to explore how zacharie would interpret/relate to the mechanics of the game, especially the battle system.

summary:

The Batter's interactions throughout the game tend to fall into one of three categories: a conversation, an exchange, or a fight. Any unexpected physical contact, Zacharie discovers, gets interpreted as the latter.

Or: Zacharie experiments with the Batter's fight or flight response.

Because a friend told me she never knows what to write and then never comments, but wants to learn how to do better, I thought I’d compile a list, and maybe it will help someone else as well!

As always, this is unofficial and just from my personal experience writing and reading fic, and talking with other fic authors.

What to comment

Honestly, authors love friendly comments, no matter how small. Here are some ideas for short comments you can write to pretty much any fic you enjoyed:

If you want to write something a bit longer, you can for example

Tell the author where you have been reading the fic or what you were doing while reading it

Tell the author what you should have been doing instead of reading fanfic (and that it was worth it to read the fic)

Copy a passage (or several) from the fic you particularly enjoyed

Did the author write a note at the end or beginning of the fic? Maybe even ask a question? Sometimes you can reply to author’s notes in your comment

How did the fic make you feel? Happy, made you cry, made you laugh, made you jealous of a character, or made you want to punch an antagonistic character’s nose in? Write it in the comment!

Is it your first fic in a fandom or with a ship? Your favorite fic in a fandom, or with a specific character? Did you read it in one go? Did you savour it slowly reading over days or weeks? Have you enjoyed every update of a multi-chapter? Do you wish you could read it again for the first time? Write anything you want to let the author know about your reading experience!

Is there a character you particularly enjoyed in that fic/chapter? Tell the author you think they wrote xy character really well!

You can always start or finish your comment with one of the suggestions from the short comments to make sure the author knows you liked it :)

If you really don’t know what to write, or are reading fic in a language not your own (though authors usually don’t mind you commenting in your native language) and aren’t comfortable commenting in either language, you can also leave emojis as comments, for example variations of:

Don’ts

There isn’t much you can do wrong when writing comments on fic, but there are a few things you should keep in mind:

don’t criticize (unless negative critics/what they can do better has been specifically asked for by the author, and then stick to the kind of criticism asked for, and best try to include something positive too to soften the blow)

don’t demand more/ask for updates - you can tell the author you’d read it if they wrote more, but don’t put pressure on them, you don’t know what’s happening in their lives right now and for what reason new entries might have slowed down, and they don’t owe you regular or any updates!

don’t tell them what to write (unless the author is taking prompts, and in most cases the comment section is not the right place for prompts, check what the author specified)

Remember: Fan fiction are free, from fans for fans, so etiquette is a bit different than in the Amazon reviews of books you paid good money for! Fic authors don’t have to cater to you, just enjoy that there are fics shared with the fandom :) If you don’t like something, or don’t like a part of something, either close the tab or quietly ignore the issue and just enjoy the parts you do like.

And in general, to end this on a positive note:

Yes, you can comment on older fanfics!

Yes, comment on several fics in a row if you’re reading through fics by one author!

Yes, comment on as many chapters of the same fic as you like!

Yes, you can make art for the fic and tell the author about it!

Yes, absolutely tell the author if you’re still thinking about a fic hours/days/years… after reading it!

Yes, send authors asks on tumblr/other sites talking about how you love their fics, if they link these sites in the author’s notes! (But also comment on Ao3)

Yes, you can comment/review even if you don’t have an account (at least on Ao3 and ffnet)!

Yes, please let the author know if you’re reading a fic for a second time, even if you just write ‘re-read kudos!’

The best comments are also written directly on the site the fanfiction got posted on (so usually ao3/ffnet and not tumblr/discord), both because it makes the note count higher, and because then the comment won’t quickly get buried under unrelated messages or posts.

If you want to leave long comments about different parts of a fic or chapter, you can also make use of the floating Ao3 comment box! It allows you to type your comment while you're still reading, without having to leave the page!

(i don't really do general lmk asks, so im going to answer this as if it were for the lmk version of bad end. it's gonna get x reader type shippy.)

let's say MK is bad ends adopted son in the modern bad end au, where swk never went on the journey and is one of the major villains (despite this he's surprisingly chill for most of the show? even helping MK and his friends occasionally. though the gang doesn't know that swk is mks adopted dad until later)

so, in this version of the universe, macaque has sorta taken the role of normal wukong, as in he went on the journey and is training MK in secret. he's also protecting the reader here, who's a reincarnation of the reader from the journey, i.e. target numero uno for swk for...reasons. reader is also sorta a mother figure for MK.)

i think, as MK's adopted dad, villain swk would be the strict/fun/scary type of parent. he loves his kid and wants him to be happy, but also won't allow himself to be disrespected and can be harsh. knowing that, the fact that MK's constant begging to "see the outside world" actually worked is a miracle.

MK makes all his friends and convinces his dad to let him stay with the nice shopkeep who gave him a job. swk begrudgingly agrees, thinking that knowing how the modern mortal world works would be good for him.

however, after a few years of this, swk notices that his son is spending more time in the city than with him on the mountain. he decides to visit his son at work to surprise him with a...

...mandatory home visit.

the monkey king disguises himself, knowing that looking like the notorious villain he is would attract too much attention. his deeds have left such an impression that people would still panic at the sight of him even all these centuries later, after all.

when he arrives at the noodle shop, he can't help but sneer at it. this is the place that MK gets so excited about? that he likes enough to spend hours talking about during training? hmf. at least he'll get to meet these "friends" that his son cares so much for. he's particularly interested in–

the king freezes upon entry to the noodle shop.

there, manning the register. she looks exactly the same as when he lost her, though her traveling robes have been exchanged for a shirt bearing the shops logo, and jeans, a yellow hoodie tied around her waist...

it's her.

she's here, reincarnated. it's got to be her. his eyes of truth can't lie, and this mortals' aura is the same as hers. she looks over at him and he's paralyzed for a moment. even her eyes are the same color.

there's a slight pinch in her brow as she gazes at him. does she recognize him after all this time, he wonders, even with the disguise? he allows himself to hope for a second... but the look passes and the customer-service smile easily takes its place on her lips.

"Hello there! What would you like?" reader says.

For you to come home with me, is wukong's first thought.

"Hey," he says instead, somewhat nervous smile on his face. it's been a while since he's interacted with regular people (that weren't cowering in fear).

"Is MK here? I've come to check up on him,"

"I'm his dad, by the way." he quickly tacks on, somewhat bashfully.

"The kid's not here," the chef and presumed owner of the shop cuts in gruffly. the pig demon is scrutinizing him, suspicion written all over his face. "He's makin' deliveries."

huh, the king thinks. one reincarnation so close to another isn't uncommon, but it's still odd to see two of the monks' traveling companions all these centuries later. especially considering the fact that these two didn't get along that well, if he recalls. but, on a more important note-

"Ah, alright then! Perhaps I'll just have some noodles while I wait. Do you know when he'll be back?" wukong attempts to sound calm, but the fact that he doesn't get to see MK right now is grating on him. that and the unease he can sense in reader at his presence.

"Well, who knows with MK. He's a good kid, but he has a tough time focusing on certain tasks," reader says, some of her anxiety fading at the chance to talk about her work buddy. "He tries his best, though."

"Yeah?" wukong smiles at reader. he can see the color in her cheeks. he knows she likes his human form, even if she's wary of him. "Y'know, he's told me about you. You're Reader, right?"

she nods, and the nervous energy flowing off of her fades a little. he can tell she's still unsure if he's actually MK's dad. he supposes he did just...walk in and say it with no way to back it up. the distrust and uncertainty radiating off the pig demon as he subtly watches the conversation is palpable.

wukong watches as reader turns at the chef's call, taking the bowl of noodles carefully and setting it in front of him.

"Here you are," reader says, setting chopsticks down beside the bowl. the king thanks her before digging in. "If you'll excuse me a moment."

though he appears occupied with his meal, wukong takes note of reader saying something in a low voice to the pig demon. he nods, and reader heads out a back door. she pulls her phone out of her pocket as she goes.

hmf. probably to call MK and ask if the (incredibly handsome) stranger claiming to be his dad is really who he says he is. wukong can imagine the way his son will stutter and panic at the fact that he decided to come here instead of one of their regular meet up points.

sun wukong can't help but be glad he did, as he uses his gold vision to watch his little wayward soulmate pace in the alleyway outside.

now that he knows that she's here, he gets the feeling he'll be spending a lot more time in the city. after all, it was because of his lack of vigilance that she taken from him the first time...

Some commentary on Aang's final chakra

The writer for The Guru set this dichotomy up as a plot point, but it never actually received any resolution in the cartoon. Before heading off to see the guru, Sokka was excited because Suki was waiting for him. And Aang chimed in about how girls were waiting for both of them. Suki was already dating Sokka. Aang was not dating Katara. But he had the expectation that he would.

After Aang lost all the Air Nomads, Katara was the first person he laid eyes on. She filled that hole in his heart when she told him that even though the monks were gone, he still had a family. So, it's only natural that he would feel an attachment to her and be confused. His love for her was a good thing. But the memories used for the final chakra are only the romantic ones from the two "shippy" episodes. Those episodes were a red herring. They were meant to set up an expectation in Aang—as well as the viewer—that he would end up with Katara. It was supposed to seem like a forgone conclusion.

The reason why Aang's relationship with Katara was his spiritual stumbling block was that he was placing all his hopes on a romance with her as a source of fulfillment. That was his motivation for saving the world. He was doing it for her. But in a selfish sense. She was supposed to be his prize for saving the world.

Yes, Aang acts possessive and jealous when it comes to Katara. This is perfectly normal adolescent behavior. Crushes are messy and we all go through these types of learning experiences. It's not a particularly egregious character flaw, LOL. Especially not for a tween who has suffered a great deal of loss. It was meant to be relatable to the audience who were primarily tweenagers. But make no mistake. This was absolutely set up as something to overcome.

Aang didn't understand what the guru was talking about. He thought he had to give up love. That's what he tried to do in The Crossroads of Destiny. He wasn't thinking about what he needed, but what Katara needed. Remember how the kundalini energy was stuck in the middle of his back? That's where the heart chakra is. Aang was willing to do whatever it took to save Katara's life, even if it meant giving up any hope of a future together as a romantic couple. But that IS love.

Also, I have another question (I hope I’m not intruding on your time, and you have no obligation to answer this), but what is the Lovebug sickness thing? I’ve also seen that around.

ok admittedly I actually don't think I'm as knowledgeable with the Lovebug Virus concept as I would be with Paraverse, but as I've actually been engaged with it a LOT as of late & at least understand the base concept ( I think? ), I'll try to relay ALL that I know to you, dear non! & i thoroughly encourage anyone who may know more to add onto my post!

TDLR; in essence an AU / trend begun by user @things1do that stems from the idea of The Stanley Parable, particularly Stan/Nar, getting infected by a particular love-virus! that's pretty much it I think. lovecore parable, baby!

SO - the " Lovebug AU, " also known as " the Love Virus " is a concept originated from the user mentioned above ( Bubo ) in which, if we're to take the tags from this original post to heart, the/their Narrator opened an email with a virus attached ( implied to be the infamous IRL computer worm ILOVEYOU / LOVE_LETTER_FOR_YOU.TXT.vbs or some variation of it? ) & ended up getting the game bugged.

rather than your standard computer bug effects though, said worm corrupts the parable & simply injects a lovecoric aesthetic into everything, which includes - of course, Stanley & the Narrator; shown through individual outfit, aesthetic, & personality shifts to befit. given their popularity as characters & as a couple, they're most often the characters you'll find if you search the AU anywhere, though I believe any character IN the parable can be lovebugged!

MORE INTERPRETIVE LOVEBUG DISCUSSION BELOW;

& beyond this concept, I don't think there's been much other story added to it? at least, not from Bubo, from what I can tell. truth be told, i think the concept of the Lovebug Virus is just a good, canonically appropriate excuse to draw Parablites in lovecoric outfits & doing shippy/affectionate things with one another!

...but that's not stopped some people.

given the rather open concept with no apparent set story beyond a simple shtick, people have taken it in NUMEROUS different directions with their respective Parable renditions & interpretations.

some stick with the simplicity of the original concept; some others decide to take it a bit further & really harp on the " virus " side of things, either turning it into a literal sickness on cold with a flu or some kind of unfavorable phenomenon in terms of bodily health or the game's code; some others make it a one-sided thing from either Stanley or the Narrator's POV, with the other trying to avoid or cure them- & on that note, I've even seen it translated as a sort of lovecoric zombie virus ( hi @blackkatdraws ); some take it in a more Visceral or thought-provokingly disturbing direction with the virus enhancing the affected's feelings to an obsessive / destructive degree; & then you've got some that take it as an excuse to depict stan/nar as more Lustful, with befitting, revealing / promiscuous clothes to boot. ( you know who you are & i know WHAT you are )

etc etc -- & to each their own, i suppose! it's a very loose, interpretation-based concept that you can really push & play & have fun with, so long as you stick to the main " hearts, pink & red, lovey " theme!

today i am thinking about... being kept company by favs while in a low spoons/introverted kind of mode..

(Just some general hcs and such, g/n reader, referred to as 'you'! not explicitly shippy)

Characters: Ayato, Capitano, Childe, Dottore, Pantalone, Pierro, Thoma, Zhongli

Ayato would be more than happy to keep you company - he probably quite likes having someone else nearby that isn't a retainer or something while he's doing his paperwork - I'd imagine he struggles a bit with social burnout on occasion too with how often he has to take charge of conversations, and thus sometimes he will request some 'chill time', especially once he's realised that you both benefit from it. He's often left to his own devices when he's doing his paperwork (apart from Thoma coming up to bring him snacks and drinks) so his study is kind of a safe haven away from the hustle and bustle of the outside world (and even when it's not, Ayato would definitely find you somewhere quiet to sit if you need it <3)

Honestly almost any time with Capitano would be some kind of 'quiet time', I headcanon him to be a very quiet individual, a man who lets his actions do all of the talking. It's actually more of a struggle to get him to engage in a normal conversation (especially if it isn't to do with a subject he's interested in), so hangouts with him often end up with silently watching a movie together or engaging in some form of parallel play (he likes to read -- though I can also see him engaging in some low-key, quiet exercises like tai chi, maybe yoga). I may be projecting here (which I think I'm allowed to because we know next to nothing about him and ive latched onto him like a remora fish), but i imagine that he actually struggles a lot with speaking aloud and socialising and will occasionally go non-verbal when he's had a particularly long or overwhelming day, so sitting quietly doing your own things works great for him.

I'm sorry but Childe can NOT stay still for long enough for either party to benefit from some sit-down quiet time, he's a high-key sensory seeker and is never quiet, he needs to be in the centre of attention or doing at least 3 things at once or he'll explode - he fidgets and wanders and asks annoying/insensitive questions like "hey are you done being quiet now?" he can be really draining to be around but if you tell him you're having a bad day or something he can be super sweet, bringing you treats and gifts and letting you snuggle up to him!

Chill time with Dottore is... unnerving, to say the least. After a mini questionnaire about your day and what led up to you feeling like this, he finally lets up and allows you to sit with him as he goes about whatever business, but eventually you find that he keeps glancing up at you with increasing frequency, his head tilted to the side as he just... observes you.

Pantalone probably chuckles and teases a bit, something along the lines of "oh, you couldn't even go a whole day without me? How sweet." He's another one who doesn't fully understand why someone might want what is essentially 'alone time' in tandem with another person, but he's fine with it as long as you aren't in the way or being distracting, though I feel like he could be kind of strict about it, especially when he's highly stressed, it feels more like being in detention than anything else.

Pierro probably enjoys it (but would never admit it), he probably won't even acknowledge someone walking into the room unless they speak to him directly, so it's really easy just to walk in and sit on a chair near him and just enjoy his presence (though he totally has that old man throat clear/sneeze). Bonus points if you bring him a coffee - he'll tell anyone who walks in looking for you that you're working on something for him and should be left alone.

Thoma is in a similar situation to Childe but he actually knows how to regulate himself well enough to not disturb or bother you - if he has some kind of quiet chore to sit down and do (like folding laundry, sewing or knitting) then he's more than set to keep you company for a while - he'll also offer to make you food and drinks, just like he does when you're sad or upset. I think he struggles to differentiate between upset/just needing some quiet time, but he really does mean well!

I think Zhongli would kind of struggle with the idea at first, it's kind of a non-traditional way of hanging out that he's not used to, he's such a talkative person and will just infodump about the first things that come to his mind because he likes to share things with you, but once he's warmed up to the idea he's more than happy to just sit in the same room while he works on some paperwork for the funeral parlor or reads, only occasionally breaking the silence to tell you something he's deemed to be very interesting or important.

there are so many excellent danharry moments and storylines across all nine seasons, but here are my (very painstakingly selected) top five danharry episodes in chronological order:

1. S3E9-10 The Wheels of Justice (Part 1 + 2)

every time i think about this episode i go fully insane charlie kelly standing in front of the pepe silvia conspiracy board style. admittedly the first episode doesn't give us a lot of danharry content beyond harry smiling super fondly at dan while dan screams at bull's tiny tv, but the SECOND episode. jesus CHRIST. dan talking harry out of his slump in that pool hall........'you were good, harry! very good. you were impartial. you were fair. passionate. compassionate. understanding. and i admired you.'............dan hugging harry after harry apologized and said he would come back to court........the way harry and dan looked at each other after harry's line about taking the good with the bad no matter how bad the bad gets...........dan's smile while harry tells mac that dan is the only reason he left the pool hall..........and then. of course. this.

what is their DEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2. S4E1 The Next Voice You Hear...

'emily,' night court nation says. 'this is not a danharry-centric episode.' you are correct! 'then why is this on your list?' because after harry found out his mother was dead, mac's first instinct was to call dan, and dan dropped whatever he was doing to come and console harry. they're best friends!!!!!!!!! and i cry about it Every Day

3. S4E5-6 Dan's Operation (Part 1+2)

this is THE danharry episode. every other danharry episode go home (except please don't, you're all wonderful). seriously though if someone told me when i first started watching night court that harry would fall asleep on a comatose dan's chest after begging him to wake up (AFTER they had a huge argument earlier in the episode) and dan's first instinct upon waking up is to stroke harry's hair and also Not Move Or Say Anything Because Harry Is Sleeping and THEN they would have ANOTHER argument that ended in both of them saying 'i love you' to each other, i would have died on the spot. and then i watched these episodes and i DID die on the spot. larroquette won his third emmy award for his performance in these eps and it is extremely well deserved.

4. S5E14 I'm OK, You're Catatonic/Schizophrenic

a danharry episode that raises more questions than it answers. what do you mean dan just randomly took a nap on harry's conference table. what do you mean dan kidnapped mel torme for harry. what do you mean dan said re: his kidnapping of mel torme '[harry's] gonna kiss me on the lips for this'. what do you MEAN dan handcuffed mel torme to a chair using 'a trick harry taught him' with 'magic shackles' that HE KNOWS CHAFE and WHAT DO YOU MEAN HARRY DOESN'T EVEN HAVE MAGIC SHACKLES AT ALL. SO WHAT WAS DAN TALKING ABOUT. someday i will get a ouija board so i can talk to reinhold weege from beyond the grave and ask him hey man!!! what was up with this episode!!!!!!!!! and also harry destroying dan's car in retaliation for dan accidentally destroying his mel torme record collection (on top of harry strangling dan upon receiving the news and also screaming I'M GOING TO EAT THAT MAN'S EYEBROWS) is proof that these two match each other's freak like no one else and that's why they should be endgame, thank you and good night.

5. S5E22 + S6E1-2 Danny Got His Gun (Parts 1-3)

1980s sitcoms were operating on a whole other level because if even an iota of this plotline happened to one of my otps on any of my currently airing shows the entire fandom would burst into flames. dan is presumed dead!!! his plane goes down north of hudson bay!!! and harry is the first one to receive the news!!! and the first one to receive further telegrams from the army and also dan's belongings!!! in his will dan left harry his 'heartfelt gratitude'!!! harry had to plan dan's memorial service!!! he had to write dan's eulogy!!! he had to sit there and watch everyone in attendance including the funeral director (barring roz) not be able to say a single nice thing about his best friend!!! then said best friend CRASHES HIS OWN MEMORIAL SERVICE!!! dan is alive!!! he has a beard!!! he smells awful!!! which i will maintain to my last breath is the only thing that prevented harry from kissing the breath out of dan right there in the funeral home!!! they!!! looked!!! at!!! each!!! other!!! like!!! this!!!

i'm a harry x ginny shipper, but i see that you like harry x luna. and i'm willing to hear it out. make your case. gush. i'm listening

I really don’t have a super strong reason that I ship them other than I just like it? And I also have absolutely nothing against Harry x Ginny, it just doesn’t particularly intrigue me.

It’s less a case of “I ship these two characters SO HARD and will accept no other ship” and more like, it started out as a bit of a crackship in the beginning, but then the more and more I thought about it the more delightful I found it? It’s just so cute????

(I really wish I could reread books 5-7 for more developed thoughts about it, but I’m only on book 3 right now on my reread and I didn’t want to wait that long, sooo, here’s the slightly half-baked version.)

I think a part of what endears it so much to me is how much Harry genuinely likes her, even just generally. Like, Ron and Hermione are initially a bit put-off by her oddities, and even though Harry does think she’s a little odd, he also just thinks she’s neat? “Oh, I have this party I have to go to, and I don’t have a date—I’ll ask Luna, cause she’s cool.” It’s just so precious??? (Imagine if he’d known her during the whole Yule Ball debacle! He could’ve asked her and it would’ve been great—again, even from a non-shippy perspective!)

They are also both social pariahs, albeit in different ways (Luna is generally thought of as “weird,” while Harry gets ostracized in different situations because he’s famous), and even in-canon they seem to really connect on that point, and don’t see each other as their assigned labels. Harry doesn’t see Luna as “the weird girl.” Luna doesn’t see Harry as “The Chosen One.” Like, can you imagine how nice it would have been if they’d known each other during Chamber of Secrets? Because she absolutely was not buying the whole “Heir of Slytherin” thing people were spreading around.

Also, correct me if I’m not remembering this correctly, but Harry is just so ride-or-die for her after she risks her life going with them to the Ministry in book 5, and it’s just. So great. Like Luna CAN be and IS independent and can make it just fine on her own, but she needs people in her corner just as much as anyone else. (And she knows it!)

They are also both fundamentally very kind and compassionate people while also being pretty brutally honest—and tbh, I think they BOTH could use that kind of person in their lives.

Anyway, TL;DR: I think they’re neat, they have a lot of interesting similarities and parallels, and even if you don’t ship them, I think they are undeniably kindred spirits.

↳ i see him as the ceo of allergy denial too. he has no problem admitting when he’s sick but as soon as it comes to allergies its like talking to a brick wall “are you sure youre okay” “*very very obviously not okay* yep”

↳ will be denying until every subsequent snz has his head spinning

unless its someone(s) he’s properly comfortable with, he will be stifling in front of people

↳ …even though stifling is kind of a Task. i imagine it starts to hurt after a few

normally he will snz in doubles exclusively unless he does stifle then that will take it up to maybe four at once, nothing too excessive

↳ not hugely loud? but definitely not quiet. theyre pretty heavy too with a decent amount of force behind them, as such: “hhuh’dDJSHhh! …’djiISHHh’uh!”

↳ stifles into a fist, regular snz into his elbow and he grips the elbow w his other hand

↳ i also have this really specific thought that after he stifles a couple of times, the next snz gears up immediately after and he has this gasping, stuttery buildup before the last snz that will be very much harsher and ultimately unstifleable: and i spelled it out too! “hh’nNGt! ‘GKKts! -ahH! h-hhaaHh’GKSHHh’uh!”

(these headcanons are literally getting princess treatment im so sorry to all the other characters. my bias is showing)

aside from above though, (and allergic snzs) his buildups are next to nonexistent. he has a few tells, if you look closely you’ll see his brows draw together, nostrils flare and maybe a fluttery blink before a single hitching breath and then he’s off

colds 💭💭💭 when he’s sick i feel like he gets tired a lot, but he kinda ignores it and wont sleep any more than he usually does (which probably isnt a lot)

↳ although if someone were to insist that he take a break, he would 100% be passed straight out the second he was horizontal

↳ think he has such a gorgeous sick voice… LMFAO - its just slightly deeper and with the tiniest gravelly quality + those kind of rounded out consonants… yeah

definitely isnt particularly kind on his nose, especially when it comes to allergies.. he knuckles at it with way too much force

↳ i think partly because being just itchy would bother him to no end, doesnt let him concentrate on anything

i have a whole thing in my head about him fighting in p/ankration or whatever and getting a bloody nose, whether it be when he’s sick or allergies are just particularly bad but hes just sneezy about it … yeah

↳ broken/injured nose = no touching, so he can’t stifle for a while. because of this he ends up hovering a hand awkwardly in front of his face like a shield (blood everywhere, most likely.) also he cant rub it in this state, so his nose will most certainly be scrunched up (which hurts just as much, but he finds being itchy is more annoying than being in pain)

↳ some other thoughts idk. he’s trying to clean up a wound on his face but the alcohol reaaallly gets to him; eyes are streaming and hes sniffling so bad and he has a three second window to get it done before he’s sneezing lmfao

something to do with the dog/wolf motifs of his character, he definitely scrunches up his nose when its irritated

↳ maybe an involuntary little head shake/twitch after a particularly harsh snz

has a habit of turning fully away to snz, obviously to be polite to anyone whos there but he also does it when hes alone. just turns around lmao

i see him as slightly photic, again just because he spends so much time in the dingy ass fortress so there’s probably a bit of light sensitivity there

↳ however i feel like its never enough to actually make him sneeze, it just tingles a bit and is generally annoying… but it DOES prove useful for coaxing out a stuck snz

probably anti-holdbacks until he has a raging headcold with an awful throat so even breathing hurts, so he’ll try his best to stave sneezes off

↳ they’re basically silent, pinched between two fingers, but occasionally the tail end will slip out so there’ll be a bit of a “kssh!” to be heard

↳ singles usually with the occasional double that honestly catches him off guard, he never expects more than one

↳ probably takes a lot of convincing to get him to Not stifle. unstifled snz i think isnt super vocal in sound, and is decently forceful and kinda wet: “ehH’tchSHHhh!” something like that

i think dust and particularly potent fragrances make him sneeze - he isnt allergic per se, just sensitive

↳ for this reason he likes to keep his space very clean and tidy and without perfume or whatever. an outsider’s perspective might see it as plain but he does it for his own benefit

↳ probably had to tell w/riothesley to stop wearing cologne when he visits

doesnt get sick very often, he probably has a good immune system and this paired with being nonhuman probably means hes not susceptible to colds

↳ HOWEVER. on the off chance he does come down with something, you absolutely know about it. it’s very clear in his face - eyes and nose both rimmed red, and he just looks pretty tired in general.

↳ colds for him are probably very sneezy too,, poor guy lmfao

↳ also, with the thing where it rains when he’s sad… being the hydro dragon and all the weather probably turns pretty foul until he’s feeling better (puts a whole new meaning on the phrase “under the weather” hahaha)

↳ obviously continues to work through it who do you think he is! even if he has a court case, he’ll stay through the whole thing even if his head is pounding and he’s stifled enough to burst a blood vessel

↳ in court if anyone notices the obvious congestion in his voice nobody dares make a comment lmfao - this makes him think he’s got away with it even though its blatant he’s unwell

↳ the people close to him finding out he’s sick for the first time definitely involves a lot of “wow, i didn’t know you could even get sick”

you seem like a Velvette fan so im going to prioritise her. there is a terrible dearth of shippy content with her, so i've included some platonic fics that you can squint at.

oversized jackets and the worry that comes with them by Erin_kate is this wonderful fic, part of a series, which covers Velvette's struggles with ED through Vox's point of view. although it isn't tagged as ship there's definitely a read for it, as they're this constant support for each other despite their difficulties. i made fanart for it which you can spot in chapter 1 of snippets of a life worth leading's comment section. however, if you're a Val fan, he isn't the kindest here.

What’s your OTP for your Muse(s)?

I do have ships I'm especially partial to, but I don't really see a purpose in stating them because I'm not intentionally looking for those ships — I'd rather see them develop naturally, and because they're something I'm partial to, I'm picky. Some people jump the gun on ships (and that is their preference! that's fine) and might think that because they have the other half of an "OTP" of mine that it'll be easier to ship with me, and that is just. not the case. I don't want to give that impression by listing OTPs.

What are you willing to RP when it comes to shipping?

Certainly none of the obvious big no's that end up in everyone's rules by default. I am willing to explore darker and generally unhealthy ships though, particularly with time, communication, and trust between muns. Aside from that, polyam is great, one sided romances are a heartwrenching delight, anything and everything that can spin a good (and reasonable) narrative is on the table. I love me doomed ships. I love me toxic codependency. I love me soulmates. I love me marriages. But if you're coming to ship with me with those latter two in mind, that's probably something to reconsider because that's not something I'm willing to engage in with people I'm not incredibly close to.

How large does the age gap have to be to make it uncomfortable?

Listen man I rp a guy who is 800 years old, I've rp'ed older, at some point when it's between two adults it's not about age but about chemistry, emotional and mental maturity, and the context surrounding their initial relationship (ex. I will never ship my J.ing Y.uan with an adult Y.anqing or a J.ingliu because he RAISED that boy and that woman TAUGHT him since he was a boy!! absolutely not!). And obviously, aging up to be "legal" for shipping is a big fat no.

Are you selective when shipping?

Yes. I don't want to write a ship only to regret it because I don't click with the mun or my muse doesn't click with theirs. Not all interpretations are equal, so just because I write a ship (R.atio with Ventium's A.venturine, for example) doesn't mean I'll write all or many of that same pairing. Another thing is that I'm not the biggest fan of instant/pre-established romantic pairings? I find that they do a disservice to the effort I've put into my muses, especially those with HEAVY baggage. If I don't know you as a person well, expect me to write slowburn. And if you do know me well, I will still probably write slowburn. A lot. Like, years worth. It has happened before. It will happen again.

How far do steamy moments have to go before they’re considered NSFW?

Maybe it's because I don't write NSFW but this question confuses me. Am I just stupid- HSJSFNLSKFL. Anyway, uhhh I guess for me the line gets drawn at any explicit acts or explicit descriptions. The word explicit is key, because fade to blacks or whatever are fine? Like. I dunno man LMAO. AO3 rating standards are a good reference point I guess.

Who are other muses you ship your muse with?

Gestures at my relationship tab. While I do have pairings I think look good together, that doesn't mean I ship them. Everything is interpretation dependent.

Does one have to ask to ship with you?

...Is that not common courtesy? Yes, please ask to ship, because 1) you sorely underestimate both my and my muses' obliviousness and 2) I might say no.

How often do you like to ship?

This is also a weird question! I ship when I ship, if the chemistry strikes and both muns agree then I'm gonna ship. Some days I may feel a little more shippy than others but that doesn't hold any weight towards actively pairing muses together.

Are you multiship?

Ya. I see no reason to not ship multiple pairings or multiple iterations of a specific pairing. Because each interpretation is different, each can bring something new to the table or tell a different narrative; me being selective does not bear down on this. Exclusivity is something I only really keep for very special people and their interpretations (like Starry, who I've known for five years). If someone wants to exclusively ship their muse with one of mine, that's fine! I'm flattered! But if they expect me to be exclusive to them without any prior conversation, that's going to be a problem, especially if I'm not close to them.

Are you ship obsessed or ship more-or-less?

...Now with all of my griping out of the way, let it be known that I fucking love ships. I love shipping I do HAUDJWIFJS, I just need it done right. Give me a reason to ship and I will be so on board, but it has to be a good reason, not just "they look good together." I yearn to ship, I yearn to have easier ships, but my fucking dumb ass always picks up the difficult muses!! Always!!!!! And if they're not a pain in the ass to ship with I make them one!! I'm so sorry!! Augh!!!!

What is your favorite ship in your current fandom?

This is where I will list a few shoutouts instead:

- j.ingl.uo, y.ingy.uan, j.ingr.en and r.atior.ine with Starry. All of these are on discord more than not but Starry is always, always on the same wavelength as me. She's one of my best friends, and I couldn't ask for a better partner who not only matches my desire for tragedy (j.ingl.uo and j.ingr.en) but also the sweetest and most fun of pairings (y.ingy.uan and r.atior.ine). Her Y.ingxing/B.lade is the biggest reason why I cry so much over J.ing Y.uan's heartache, because she writes him in a way that I really and truly feel the loss of who he was, and it hurts J.ing Y.uan in such unbelievable but cathartic ways. And don't get me started on her L.uocha because how did we end up plotting literally an entire decades-long romantic arc between him and J.ing Y.uan only to reach the most tragic fucking conclusion because L.uocha is too far gone to put his ways to rest for good.

- j.ingf.eng with Luna! I don't know what happened here but with our very first thread the muses took the wheel and then we had a ship. It was embarrassing. This really does not happen often with me at all but we just clicked instantly, and now I am in permanent fluff and angst hell with Luna because J.ing Y.uan loves a little too much and Yinyue does too. Also a ship that happens more on discord than not!

- r.atior.ine with Ventium! Ven's A.venturine. My goodness. I am absolutely enamored with the push and pull between these two and their way of walking the very delicate line between them, almost as if afraid of shattering what they've built up, whatever it is — because even defining it could break the illusion. And yet they read each other so well and even though they don't say anything, they know something is there, regardless of whether it's spoken into existence or not.

- himetio with Koi. we spent hours thinking up backstories for H.imeko and R.atio together and I just... ahhhh 🥺🥹🥺🥹 childhood friends to lovers is such a special and beautiful thing to me and this is one of the rare preestablished ships I have but oh my god I love it. R.atio's hypocrisy and mortality come out in full force with H.imeko and it is so fun to navigate.

Do you have any svsss rare pairs you enjoy? Or a way you enjoy a canon or popular ship that's not typical for the general fandom?

I feel like most of my svsss pairs are fairly basic/standard in the fandom, and if not necessarily the most popular at least certainly fairly popular. I don't even know that I'm enough in the fandom to know what the rarepair ships are though I'm sure there are fun ones. maybe that I'm fascinated by the prospect of a relationship between airplane!shang qinghua and original!shen qingqiu - not a shippy one, mind, just the possible dynamic. and I haven't found a whole lot of that.

also if liu mingyan/sha hualing counts. it does have less than 500 works devoted to it and I know from experience that a number of those are as a background/side ship, so I think I might give it to them. I also really like them as, like...crunchier than I tend to find people writing it, alas. more digging into the madonna/whore dichotomy that they've been shoved into. just. more complicated. you know.

I'd also love to read more f!luo binghe/f!shen jiu if anyone has found any of that, particularly if it's not just about the porn but also about how them both being women might change their dynamic. this is so rare for me, for the most part genderswaps really don't work, but this is one pairing where I'm really intrigued by the possibility.
