re: that fucking staff post. obviously death to algorithms, but i also wanna interrogate the wider underlying assumptions of their logic there cuz. is 'success' having lots of followers & lots of popular posts??? why is that the end goal of using this website. i don't open tumblr to get attention from strangers, i open tumblr to read funny jokes and interesting commentary and to see cool art. encouraging clout-chasing will only increase user engagement if you successfully get people literally addicted to the associated dopamine hit. what if we didn't have to do that!!! what if a website could be a place you went to on purpose because you had fun there!!!!

Something I miss from earlier eras of the creative side of the internet was things just being unabashedly low-budget. Just all unashamedly amateur, unprofessional, ‘I don’t own a good camera but I have a story to tell you’, ‘I can’t afford a good mic but I have a song to sing for you,’ ‘I don’t have any kind of background in editing or lighting and I only just picked up this guitar last Tuesday but here’s an entire musical me and my friends wrote about our favourite book, we filmed it on a potato and put it up on YouTube in ten minute segments because we thought it was pretty funny.’

Why is KOSA not trending? This bill aims to take down fandom related sites INCLUDING TUMBLR!!!?? Like we need to get this to #1 on trending and FAST! Please reblog posts on the tags with more resources and spread the word people, this is actually terrifying!!!

Also it doesn’t even end with KOSA, the Earn It Act and many more censorship bills are trying to slip through our legislature and I haven’t seen many people talk about it!

Remember everyone, this isn’t about “protecting children,” because if it was they’d go after actual R34 sites instead of queer people trying to live their damn lives!

I get a lot of asks about training advice and I'm always like "well I am not a professional in any capacity" and also I forget every book I have ever read etc the moment someone asks me, but I remembered at random today that my very talented friend has written a really amazing training book that I think would be especially good for the people who tend to ask me this, bc Bridger has ADHD (LIKE DO MANY OF US) and is therefore really good at breaking things down into digestible chunks! this is one of the things I find most challenging about training so I think this is an extra valuable thing to have in a book.

It's mostly training basics for people who are beginners, but in a way where you can use the info the build a LOT of skills once you grasp the basics, and I really vibe with Bridger's ethics around training as well.

Anyway this is a really great book and not recommended as often as it should be bc it's just not one of the standard go-to books (yet!!!) so I thought I would plug it and in doing so answer all the training rec asks I get all the time and am so bad at answering 🤣

when i was younger I thought that private school and boarding school were the same thing, and also that they were only for kids who were too bad to attend normal school so their parents gave up and sent them away.

this led to someone online attempting to brag about going to private school to me and 11 year old me only thought "Damn, it sucks their parents don't love them."

Funding update: We're still short

Co-director Jacob here, with an update on our current fundraising efforts. We sure appreciate your understanding this interruption to the award-winning sex and relationships education programming we’d much rather be spending our time providing for you! Just over 200 wonderful folks have made a donation or become a recurring donor since we started, but we are still short of our goal! We’re still 171 new recurring donors and 5K short of 15K we need to pay our most basic bills through the end of 2024 to help us avoid cuts to our staffing and services in 2025. We'll need just around as many people as have already pitched in to close the economic gaps we're up against, and help from people who value what we do to close them. You know the drill! The fact that Apple reportedly sells Apple TVs for $100+ and they’re STILL at a loss should tell you just how shady the smart TV market is. When you buy a Roku or a Smart TV, you’re buying a screen grabber. I’m not kidding. Most modern Smart TVs have a screen monitoring program built in to content match whatever you’re watching or playing (yes, even on external HDMI inputs) and sell that data to advertisers. The reason flat screen TVs have gotten so cheap isn’t because of production costs falling, but rather these companies selling the hardware to you at a loss, and then secretly selling your information and viewing habits to make up the difference. I’m not exaggerating. They’re are guides online on how to disable this screen grabbing software on a per TV-manufacturer basis. I highly recommend you look them up, or simply never connect your TV to the internet in the first place and deny it access to do so.

metalhead ghost who’s been in moshpits since he was a kid and is now a veteran of the scene and the self appointed look out. he keeps an eye out for anyone falling or passing out, kicks the shit out of anyone crowd killing or putting their hands where they shouldn’t

and he’s been keeping an eye on the punk in the kilt since he saw him throw himself headfirst into the wall of death

he looks like the type to start shit - loud and aggressive as anyone else here but a punk doesn't end up at a metal show for no reason - but there's also something niggling at him that he's gonna end up getting himself hurt. and ghost can’t tell if he’s going to do it on purpose

if he does, ghost needs to know. he uses these places as an escape - the music, the violence, the community - always has and he knows all to well how easily an escape can curdle and become destructive. he’s seen too many people lost to the darker parts of the scene, almost lost himself to it; he doesn’t want it to happen to anyone else if he can help it

so when he sees the punk sweating his mohawk off, his movements becoming looser and uncoordinated, he has no issues with yanking him out of the pit and pulling him away from the crowd; pushing him up against the venue wall and ordering him to open his mouth

the glaze that falls over his eyes concerns him even as he obediently lets his mouth fall open. he was right; the punk’s severely dehydrated, tongue and gums far to pale and along with the look in his eyes, he half-thinks he’s about to drop

he reflexively tightens his hold on his jaw to keep him up and the punk shivers, a flush creeping up his neck. an almost confused arousal joins the haze in his eyes and ghost smirks beneath his mask

looks like metal shows aren’t the only thing the punk is new to

Already we see BBH saying “it’s a game about killing people,” willing to take out competition to get Skeppy in, REMOVING his Ordo Theoritas stasis chamber ender pearl in case someone tries to ambush assassinate him that way, contemplating removing everyone from his allowlist at his homes… Entering his uber-paranoid villain arc for his little diamond buddy

And then there’s the absolute POWERHOUSE that will be Cellbit and Forever (assuming they’ll work together), with Forever likely going to bring Brunim in. Meaning BBH will be facing off against Forever to get the people they want on the island, which will significantly change their relationships with each other and their friends

Not to mention the De Luque Mafia Family can actually do some damage, and if Cellbit marries Roier then EVERYONE is gonna have to watch their backs, what with the Masked Mine Placer and Foolish having a glock
