its a long ass story thats been going on since the reveal of s7. here's just a recount of what's been going on lately for anyone curious i guess. its just to answer why a lot of people are icked out by laurance right now and why people are saying "i cant enjoy laurance anymore"

bascially laurance's va doesn't know how to properly manage his image,

ive been following him long before, he would have a few old tweets and tiktoks where he gets really annoyed towards aphmau fans, and reasonably so

...after the reveal of s7, he tried coming back to make his brand Laurance except he's using his NFSW bdsm account. after people started trying to link his nsfw links to his aphwiki page i made a twt post asking people to stop doing that. thats when we realized seb is obsessed with searching himself up on twitter and he proceeded to QRT me and make a few response posts reiterating what i said and apologizing for interacting with minors on his nsfw account. he made a new alt account for interacting with fans on aphtwt.

that was back around september-october

he searches himself and laurance up constantly to QRT and pick fights and stuff. its clear he's going through mental shit - he talks about it a lot. but it took him months to realize hes not fit to be running an account to host his image/brand that he wants to be about Laurance. he picks up on any drama around himself and kinda has a villain speech every time someone doesnt like him. im kind of starting to feel bad for him.

this is all while lowkey begging Jess to contact him again to bring him back for VA work, cryptically referring to her sometimes as "The Creator". you went to all 3 shows in saitama, still nothing, you couldve swore he was looking at you, but he never heard your yells. you wanted to follow them to every concert, but your mom had a work meeting in a few days, so she had to get back home. you put in your airpods and prepared for the drive. you listened to you riki-themed playlist again.

'i have a feeling you got everything you wanted, and your not wasting time stuck here like me.'

the lyric hit you harder than it should have, you felt like a loser, while he was living his best life as a kpop idol you were going to all his concerts, buying all the merch. hoping that one day you can tell him about how you were there, trying to get to him. you got a notification again, something in you knew it was riki.

'mom! hes live again!' you beamed, tapping on the notification. you typed out comment after comment, trying so hard not to spam. but this time the comments wouldnt go through, and your service went out just minutes after the live started. you groan at seeing the no wifi symbol, trowing your head back in frustration. your mom pats your shoulder 'its ok, im sure he will go live again soon.' she sighed, seeing the sad look on your face. you just looked out the window the whole car ride, you tried not to think about it, but all the failure was getting to you.

your mom was busy with work over the summer, it had now been months since the saitama visit, and you hadnt managed to contact riki. their last concert was coming up, in just a week. you were begging your mom to let you go. 'mom, please! what if they never go on tour again, this could be my last chance!' you would whine, hoping she would give in, eventually, she did. before you knew it you were packing for the final concert of enhypens fate tour. when you finally made it to miyagi, you were exhausted.

you made it to the show, you were front row. 'mom, im telling you. hes gonna see me.' you whispered, your voice filled with hope, your mom just nodded. when enhypen came out on to the stage, everyone cheered, the loud noise of all their fangirls sqealing drowned out your crys 'riki!! its yn!' you screamed over and over, but he never heard.

sunghoon heard you though. he looked at you, and you leaned over the edge to get as close as you could to him, pointing at riki. 'get him!!' you screeched at sunghoon, but he just rolled his eyes, your name slipping his mind. 'that girls crazy.' he thought as he continued performing.

when you saw the look on his face you were devastated. did riki tell him that he didnt want to see you? is that why he looked so annoyed? you knew not to beat yourself up about it , you just had to keep trying. as riki danced on the stage you couldnt help but feel proud of him, he had always been a dancer, since before you were even friends. you forgot all about trying to reach him and watched as he danced, until the final song.

heeseung yelled about how this is the final song of tour, so everyone needs to be loud, but it went in one ear and out the other. you were jumping around, trying to stay exited, even though the worry of him not seeing you still was lingering, you hoped he'd see you.

as riki made his way to the side of the stage you were by, you started screaming "riki!!!! its yn!!" you almost lost your voice.

riki looked at you. "yn?" he said, wanting to jump of the stage, wanting to hug you so bad. you were jumping up, trying to get to him. he leaned down, trying to hold your hand that you were reaching up at him, security came up to you. "excuse me." the security guard said flatly "you cant get that close. this is your warning." your heart dropped. "but-" riki chimed in, but the guard cut him off. "you cant get the close with fans." he shot riki a death glare, and then turned back to you. "if it happens again, you wont be coming to anymore concerts here." he crossed his arms as he walked away, but he was still close enough to see you.

"ill be back, yn" riki said as he looked at you with sadness, his older members were telling to come end the concert with him. "shes here, i have to go back, the concert cant end, what if i cant find her again?" he rambled on about how hes scared of leaving, not wanting to miss the possibility of actually being able to see you again. just as he was walking back stage with a defeated look on his face, he stopped by you side of the stage, pointed at you and mouthed "stay there."

you smiled, he finally saw you, just as you hugged your mom, you heard a loud thump next to you. a girl had passed out. 'fuck.' you thought, knowing you would be escorted out. the same security guard from earlier ran over, giving you a death glare before yelling "unless you know this girl, you need to get away from here!" another girl, presumably her friend, had her phone out, calling 911.

your mom gave you a 'im sorry' look as she had to drag you out. 10 minutes later riki was running over to where you were, only to be met with an ambulance and no sign of you. "what the..?" he muttered under his breath, looking around, making sure nothing had happened to you. as he slowed down, now walking to the sight. "whats going on?" he asked a paramedic, tapping his leg anxiously on the ground. "a girl passed out, most likely just didnt get enough food." the paramedic said so casually, like it happened everyday. "oh, do you know the girls name?" he asked, trying to keep the thoughts of it being you out of his mind. when the paramedic answered he didnt even acknowledge the name, all he knew was that it wasnt you name.

he dismissed it, wished them luck and headed back to his members. "some girl passes out.. she wasnt there." he whispered as he plopped onto the couch. jake laughed a little "how many times do you think youre going to get that close, just to barely miss her?" he teased, knowing how sensitive riki is about it. "shut up.." he muttered, leaning his head back on the couch. "why cant it just work out, for once?" riki asked so quietly jake almost didnt hear him. "it will, you just cant give up on her." jake replied, now leaning his head back the same way riki was.

as you walked away from the spot riki was going to meet you at, you couldnt help but cry. you tried pulling away from your mom, you tried walking back but she wouldnt let you. "mom please!" you sobbed out, wanting nothing more than to be able to finally see riki. "i know, i know you want to see him, but we cant. im sorry." she whispered, pulling you into a hug. you cried in her arms as she stroked your hair. "mom, hes gonna think i hate him." you worried, hoping he doesnt feel as bad as you do.

after about 10 minutes, your mom convinced you to go to the car. as you walked back, you could almost feel rikis presence, you could almost hear his voice.

when you woke up the next morning, your eyes were puffy, your pillow was still a bit wet, with black smudges on mascara all over it. you hadnt been able to sleep, knowing that riki was so close, yet so far. you didnt want to go home, but your mom packed your things for you, she grabbed your hand to lead you back to the car. you knew that you couldnt stay, but it didnt stop you from crying again.

Ace wasn’t excited to come down to town for the festival, so to speak. They lit the lanterns every year, but... Seeing you so happy for it did melt his heart if only a little. And seeing you get a chance to have your hair done by those little girls in the plaza was the cream on the cake. Once you had it braided with flowers and ribbons, you really did look beautiful.

He went away to grab you guys something to eat. He was only away for a second, but by the time he returned, he was watching you start a dance in the town square, inviting in various townspeople. Soon enough, most of the plaza was there. He didn’t want to join in, but he was being pushed into it before he had a chance to comprehend what was happening.

Dancing around, it was easy to see why so many had joined you. You were a great dancer, and it was fun to get to be with so many people. Even so, the fact that he wasn’t able to dance with you until the song was annoying for him. Up until he got to dance with you, of course. Anyone with a brain could see the stars in his eyes.

Deuce Spade -

Deuce loved the idea of getting a chance to take you to a festival. It would be your first one, and of course, he was very excited. So much so that he got a group of girls from the town to braid your hair. Try as he might, he couldn’t do it himself, although he did get you the ribbons and flowers to put in them.

When he went to go grab another thing of flowers for you, this time just for you to hold, he didn’t think twice when he saw you dancing. He dove right in, joining you and the other townspeople in dance, laughing. By the time he got to dance with you, he only had a single flower left, having given most of them away. Although, when he put that one behind your ear, it was clear he had saved the largest of the bunch for you.

Jack Howl -

Jack was too excited, but it wasn’t as though he didn’t want to go. Yes, it was exciting to go to a festival, but he’d already been to many of them. However, seeing how happy you were to go, he decided it was his mission to make sure you got the best experience possible.

However, he still had the ears of a wolf, and all of the loud noises and smells soon overwhelmed him. You two had to take coverage in a small library. He urged you to go back to enjoying the festival, he didn’t want you to stay behind for him, but when you didn’t, he did the next best thing and started teaching you about it. You were in a library, after all, and he was able to read and teach now that it was quieter. And in the end, isn’t wanting to spend time with your loved ones what the festival was all about?

Epel Felmeir -

Epel had been hoping you’d go with him to the festival since he heard about it, and so having you express an interest in it was something that made his day. He loved being able to go to all kinds of festivals back home, and he was sure he’d enjoy having you there for one with him, as well.

His favorite part? Getting to hide behind the wall of a bakery, eating cupcakes as Vil walks around outside of it searching for you two. Did you giggle so loudly you were caught? Yes. But was it worth it as he got to see you laughing, icing on your nose as you two ran through the streets, away from the pastry tyrant? It was. It was completely worth it.

Ortho Shroud -

Ortho was so happy when you invited him out! You two were going to be able to spend time together, and he got to have his first adventure into a festival while he was with you. He even got to make some friends with a few kids, and they taught him how to braid your hair!

And then you got to do chalk drawings together! You made a sun, and he made a drawing of him, Idia, and you. You’re a part of his family, too, and he’s so happy to be able to share a happy memory with you.

Sebek Zigvolt -

Sebek wasn’t excited at first. It was just a boring, human festival, nothing that could compare to the wonders of Fae traditions. But then, he saw you dressing up your hair and asking for help with it, and he couldn’t help but soften up to the idea just a little bit. Even humans could have a good festival or two, especially if those braided flowers are only the first part.

Out of all the first years, Sebek is the least excited to dance, yet also the best at it. Being Malleus’s personal guard, he took dance lessons, in order to blend in to any ballroom and guard Malleus even when he couldn’t be by his side. However, it was always just another part of his training, where he couldn’t even fight… Until you. Now, he’s dancing in the town square with you, hand in yours and one on your waist, mentally wondering how he got so lucky to end up here, with a human so wonderful they can make what he thought of as a boring activity into something beautiful and fun.

Okay, so before I explode for excitement, I had this idea to make take the Googlebox celebrities and make a K-pop idols edition, and it couldn't be more perfect. Of course, you might be worried about how little privacy and time to myself off camera I may have now that I've added this into my dr, but never worry!

I scripted MKB to get 2 weeks to a month long breaks depending on stuff like exhaustion, injuries, meeting families, or just having a well-deserved vacation. I also scripted that our fanbase is very respectful of our space and don't bombard us if we're spotted in public.

Okay. So. This is going to be long because im VERY opinionated on the audio drama. I watched them probably a million times while i was working on a wall mural in my parent’s bathroom.

Don’t get me wrong. Emo edgelord mcr stan sigma boy Jeff is GREAT. Its a CLASSIC. BUT. Its overdone. Its exhausting to see the same cycle of kid moves to a new town, kid gets bullied, kid goes crazy BECAUSE he gets bullied, in every single Jeff story.

David’s is unique in that Jeff was just BORN THAT WAY. he was born sick. he was like that the day he popped out of the womb. i also like how he leaves slenderman’s impact on him so vague. when you listen to the pinehearst sessions, jeff doesn’t call anyone out by name, he just uses super vague pronouns to describe the collective. “I’ve seen them.” “I know what they’re planning.” etc. etc.

not to mention the bloody parts? oh. perfection. he wanted to “wear” Christy? 10/10. my timbers were shivered. I can vividly remember the first time I listened to the video and I was just…jaw dropped. Its insane that you can understand everything thats going on gore-wise just by audio.

In short? David’s take was REFRESHING. It was new. It broke that cycle. It even influenced some aspects of the rewrite i did. (shameless plug there ;D)

TOBY

One thing that is glaringly obvious with this one is that the mental-illness portion was portrayed SO MUCH BETTER than the original. Toby was so much more believable in his struggles. I really felt sorry for the guy. You put it best when you said “he was just dealt a bad hand in life.”

Also, the brainwashing portion at the bitter end with slenderman was just great. it was amazing. AND THE LYRA PLOT TWIST???? DONT. GET. ME. STARTED. I WAS SHOOKETH. i wont spoil for all you peoples who haven’t listened to it but its CRAZY.

This one is my second favorite. Its great. Its scary. I loved it.

Honestly? INCREDIBLY underrated. THIS one is probably tied in first with Jeff. I can’t pick between them because Jeff just holds a special, nostalgic place in my heart, but this one. Ooh. This one.

Jack was the least of my concerns with this one. I’m talking about detective kent and poor sergeant norris. when the you-know-what happened with all of the proxies, my stomach was flipped. I forgot that it was even allowed to happen in this genre. in Hollywood, someone would have swooped in last minute and saved them, but that didn’t happen here. It just goes to show you how twisted david is willing to get.

we also get a lot of tim and brian in this episode!! i love them. i made a post about creepypasta and marble hornet crossovers, and this is a perfect example of a one thats done well. he didn’t make tim a measly little twink, or brian a shy wallflower, but he instead made his own, creative take on both characters. And its great. its all great.

i would dish my opinion on the sally one, but its been a hot minute since i watched it lol. ive watched all of these in the last month or two. I remember the one guy named like…aiden? or something? he disturbed me. i dont remember much else lol.

ONE MORE THING!! Im not sure if hes allowed to do this, but I think a HABIT cameo in one would be SICK. with HABIT’s gorey methods of murder and david’s twisted writing, that could be something AWESOME. maybe im just a die hard emh fan tho…idk…

THIS IS JIST A WIP!

Idk if ANYONE remember, but a year or two ago i started Mars as an OOAK (actually.. i started welcome to Mars idea while doing that doll)

Everything whent... not perfecly but it wad good untill thoses darn pants and shirt! When i did them, i forgot to take into consideration their body mod. I gave em top surgery so the shirt was way too large and the tail made the pants sit up too hight and the pants were just a nightmare. Since i stopped fashion school almost a decade ago my love for sewing soured so bad.

But last week i decided to FINALY ARE DO THE PANTS. I re did them all, on the photos its the pants when i finished most of it. I had to change the pattern by hand. Made the belt loop in a v shape so it sit lower, and added extra leight on it so i could add some velcro and make it close over the tail, and be adjustable.i also simply cut the shirt in two and made the front panel shorter.. i should re do it all since i only used black thread but .. im lazy haha i might do it some time. But its not a priority

Ive been working on small details and accessories. Im 98% done.. i just need to find shoues or make some? Idk how tho haha but im very proud of it! Its giving me more confidence to finaly start to work on my BJD, and on my other OOAK ive left on the side, barely touched.

Anyway, im happy, ill share photo of them when im done with the details.. and before the shoues.. i realy have no idea for them. I just know i want sneaker type or like converse? Something sporty, not high heel.. even if their feets are arched *cryes*

lovely anon, I must tell you that I once again went absolutely over the line with pictures I took. There are so many good ones!! I knew a few illustrations from sensei's twitter and knew how well it worked for me so I ordered this book from japan and yes, that is why I can never pick favourites I just like all of them (exception is the series in which the characters are teachers and you are supposed to be their student, not a big fan of those lol). yes its amazing that this fanservice exist. In the interview at the end of the book sensei says they often drew their characters as practise (without lines) and then uploaded them to twitter to find out the people responded so well!! so they continued with it! More snippets from the interview:

they consider this a kind of alternative world that has no space in the manga (since its a gag manga).

they claim they didnt try to make the characters hot on purpose, it just turned out this way. in their head usao and kumao always had old people voices. but now they are glad the characters are hot because of the voice actors choosen.

they come up with a line and then assign it to a character, rarely the other way around.

Every one of their characters has one thing they think is special, something they like to show off when they draw them. for Uramichi its the chest, for Iketeru the slender neck, for Usahara the shoulders and Kumatani the arms!

and shockingly to me: since this manga is running 10 years now they said when they started they felt like Uramichi is so old, but now they are the same age! I cant believe how someone in their twenties wrote such an accurate manga about being in ones thirties.

first of: my favourite has always been ushara. he is cringe fail and i love cringe fail so much. but that also means he has almost no COOL lines because he is kind of an idiot (lovingly said) tho all his illustrations are so cute. so he wont show up here much tho i love everything about his arts of course!!

generally kumatani has so many cool lines because he is so stone cold. this is also specifically heart wrecking for me because his voice actor Nakamura Yuuchi is my favourite thing since strawberries so if I imagine him doing the voice I want to die.

Three times Kumatani is an absolute tsundere about white day:

the only thing that gene has idea of how it works is his gun, and thats simply for maintenance reasons. all other machines and mechanics both confuse and terrify him. especially trains. he is deeply unsettled by trains. he does NOT like the idea of being trapped inside a fast moving hunk of METAL, and having to place all his trust in one person operating it. (i think if he found out that airplanes exist in the future, he'd pass out.) (this is also why morri would be. a little bit scary to him.)

oh, its horrendous. you'd think it would be high, considering how screwed up his metabolism is, but it's the opposite. archie is pathetic when it comes to drinking. 2 or 3 drinks and he's down for the count. he's also a very emotional drunk, and a very messy one too. he just becomes a mess of tears and hiccups and slurred words and simon has to practically carry him out of wherever they are while quietly whispering that, no, archie, i don't hate you because i won't let you take the host's dog back to your apartment. you need to go to bed. drink some water. no you will not be going on patrol like this.

so simon isn't really great with any weapon because he is but a Simple Med student. however.

he used to have much longer hair, and he would often wear it pulled up, so he has little hair ties scattered all around his apartment and when he sees one its like an URGE. an ITCH. he needs to launch that thing at his friend. he takes one and with impeccable aim, he's just. shoots it right at archie. at his leg, his arm, his back, anywhere that won't actually hurt him and is available. its just a compulsion. simon can't stop it.

he did, however, get more careful though, because one time he forgot that archie had gotten stabbed in the leg and rocketed a hair tie right at the wound. archie did Not have a good time with that one. profuse apologies were given.

so! as i said in another ask, this is a fic following sirius (and regulus, later) starting hogwarts as walburga’s obedient heir, only to end up in gryffindor and learning that life isnt quite the way he’d been taught. his revelations and his sorting end up causing tension at home in the yule holidays, and a series of events end up with regulus in gryffindor too. im sure we can all imagine how that one goes. i posted a snippet in the other ask here

7. french epi fic

HA okay i love your guess, but— well, actually, youre closer to the truth than you might’ve thought. sort of.

regulus has just escaped his parents’ clutches and moves across from france to the one place he hoped he might be welcome: sirius’ home in england. its set in yorkshire, because thats where i grew up before i had to move away, and i miss it :( regulus’ english is poor as it is, but meeting sirius’ ridiculously attractive housemate, james potter, muddles his brain enough where the few basic greetings he knew were gone

james has epilepsy (thats where the ‘epi’ in the title comes from), remus gets them all free donuts, and sirius refuses to flirt on behalf of either james or regulus with the other. its chaos, its fun, and im enjoying it so far despite only being a few thousand words in. here’s a snippet:

Regulus slowly set his eyes back on the house. “It’s so big.”

Seeming to finally catch up on Regulus’ surprise, Sirius explained, “Effie and Monty helped us get on our feet, but with what Alphard left…”

”Mon dieu,” he breathed. But this time, it wasn’t at the house. It was at the man stepping out of it.

Stood at the front door, one hand shielding his eyes from the sun that had emerged from behind the rain clouds, was the most beautiful man Regulus had ever laid his gaze upon. His dark brown hair was tussled in a mess of curls on his head, but almost like it was purposefully messy rather than just uncontrollable. Round golden glasses sat upon his bronze skin, framing his chocolatey eyes perfectly, and a wide grin pulled at his mouth and revealed a little dimple on his left cheek.

When Regulus was eventually able to tear his eyes from the man’s face, his breath caught again at the sight of the rest of him. He clearly worked out, if the muscles making his t-shit stretch were anything to go by, but he wasn’t tall — perhaps only a couple of inches larger than Regulus himself, and he reached only a measly 5’7. Something shining in the sun caught Regulus’ eye, and he saw a thin metal bracelet on one of the man’s wrists.

”Hey, James!” Sirius called, climbing out of the car and snapping Regulus out of his trance. He’d made it to the boot to pull Regulus’ suitcase out before Regulus had even managed to open the passenger door.

”Padfoot!” James called with just as much enthusiasm — that was, far too much considering they lived together and had presumably seen each other just a few hours ago before Sirius had left to pick Regulus up. “And mini Pads!” he added, spotting Regulus finally getting out of the car.

Regulus shot him a swift glare for that nickname. He may be cute, but looks could only get him so far.

8. the warmth of your arms rivals the sun (its burning out)

this is another ive covered in another ask but i love it so im still gonna talk about it. youre exactly right, by the way — it is a hmt sequel! i guess the naming conventions were similar enough ahaha. its very james-centric with background storylines, and focuses on much heavier themes than those in hmt. i wont go into what they are, but anyone who was around during chapter… four? five? i dont remember, but it was early on. i added some tags, then took them away once i decided id split it into two parts. if anyone remembers those tags, that’s what twoya will cover :))

14. sirius is actually helpful for once wtf

this is planned to be a shorter fic, but still multi chapter. its pretty much just sirius shipping jegulus and doing everything he can to get his two favourite people together :) not written yet, but ive got a fair bit planned so far

okay so, i would love to say i’ve worked on this some more since then but… i haven’t :( i really want to, but i want to do it well, which i know will take a lot of time. but, the details i have so far:

its the snooker world championships. regulus black’s first, but james potter’s third. sirius black — former world champion — is the estranged brother of the newbie regulus black, and the mentor and best friend of james potter, who was second place two years ago, but couldnt compete last year due to an unrelated injury, though healed up now. james, of course, is head over heels for regulus. regulus, of course, pretends hes not pining madly for the boy who stole his brother. sirius, of course, pretends hes not offended or hurt that regulus wont even try to fix their relationship. he also just happens to be stealing glances at remus lupin, who came fourth last year and seemed rather close to regulus. theyre all hopeless, and determined to win.

We went to see Charles Bridge. Its construction started in 1357 under the auspices of King Charles IV. Do you know about Charles? Charles of Luxembourg? Born Václav, the first King of Bohemia to become the Holy Roman Emperor? The founder of Charles University in Prague? Charles IV, ranked first in the 2005 edition of Největší Čech TV show?

Charles’ reign is commonly referred to as the Golden Age of Bohemia. Given the fact that he made Prague his capital, founded the first university in Central Europe, focused on diplomacy, not to mention the Golden Bull… ! It is only understandable. 

Has le Comte perhaps… considered expanding his family?

Greetings! Prague is so beautiful. I only wish I took my paints with me… Although, Theo was able to supply me with some without any problem. He’s been acting strange, though. He didn’t even touch his pancakes this morning… 

We’ve visited a botanical garden. Would you care to see my sketches once I return? I think I’ve captured the beauty of the flowers there just right. But it’s a shame you weren’t here with us for the butterfly exhibition… Perhaps I should paint them too.

I almost caused a little accident at the Charles Bridge, but nothing happened. If Theo mentions it, don’t worry.

Does le Comte intend to join us? I’ve briefly talked with a man… I forgot his name… He said he’s his old friend.

Tell le Comte that his old acquaintance is scheming something. Vlad’s been following me and my broer for days now. 

We’ve been to a botanical garden today. Broer wanted to sketch some of their orchids and other plants for practice. We learnt that there are butterflies in the Fata Morgana Greenhouse, so we went there. The moment I turned around, I could see a black cloak fluttering in the corner of my eye. I know he was there.

Also, what is it with those ridiculous fees for painting at Charles Bridge?! Vincent wanted to make a wish, so we went there. He set up his easel, and we almost got fined… They listened to Sebas’ rambling about the king, though, and left us off the hook.

Be a good puppy and notify le Comte that something is off. What could Vlad want from my broer?

You humans truly produce quite lovely things. The world I’ve seen today… I’m glad.

It’s been a while since I’ve been to Prague. It’s grown a lot, but the botanical garden is still here. If anything, it’s more beautiful than I remembered it being. It hosts butterfly exhibitions now too? Haha, I like the name of the greenhouse – Fata Morgana. Fitting.

Charles Bridge is also still here. Did you know that touching certain statues there is supposed to have some specific effect? Haha, who knows if they work… But I tapped the plaque with St John of Nepomuk just in case. It says I will come to Prague again. I hope to take you with me then. It’s been one of the wishes I made at the cross there. It’s a little morbid they placed it at the spot where St John fell into the river, but that’s just how you humans are, no? Curious, curious things…

I HOPE THIS IS ALRIGHT TO ASK but ive admired how you render for a long time and you mentioned a while back in a post that you'd studied light particles n how they work and i have been. deathly curious as to how you went about doing that... drawing from reference and doing studies of course, but was there any particular way you went about it? i hope this finds you well. anyways . sorry ! thank you for your time

no need to apologize, and thank you so much for asking! not sure i can provide the best explanation, but most of what i learned was off of youtube and some blog-ish websites. this probably wont make any sense at all but ill try my best.

The Anatomy of Shadows

a big part of it was learning the anatomy of shadows, specifically the terminator and different varieties. heres a diagram,

terminators are just where the light and shadow meet. you always want to be able to tell where the terminator starts and ends!!! be CONFIDENT and BOLD with them!!!! they communicate so much information about structure

more on the different types of terminators/shadows. the ones i most use are cast and body.

a great example of these is the rembrandt triangle, composed of the shadow cast by the nose (cast shadow) and the shadow of the cheek (body shadow). body shadows are so so aewsome because they represents changes in planes. cast shadows r just kinda there. but i think they get softer the further away from the object they are since the light particles wiggle their way underneath and create reflection/ambient light

Ambient Occlusion and Light

SPEAKING OF WHICH!!! ambient light is basically just, the light particles that are bouncing around in a scene. imagine you're at the beach and its a really cloudy day, the shadows arent gonna be dramatic like they would if you were in a dark room with one light source.

youd think that we're kinda like. enveloped in light by default but no, we're pretty much always in shadow. shadows are the normal part. light is a strange freak that broke into your house and fucked everything up.

more about ambient occlusion. ambient occlusion just occurs when objects get close together and light cant wiggle its way in, as stated earlier. heres a shitty example. AO is key to realism.

Lighting Focus or Whatever the Fawk its Called I Forgot But There's Definitely a Scientific/Cinematic Term For This

another thing. level of detail in shadows is gonna be way different than in light and vice versa. u know when u spend a bunch of time outside and u go inside and its just solid black for a few seconds? its a similar idea here, ur eyes are so focused on the lit area they dont even give a shit abt the shadows.

because of this, i try to keep shaded areas blurred. a lot of detail is implied, just let the viewers mind fill in the blanks.

last but not least,

Subsurface Scattering (on the skin, at least)

can i be so honest with you for a second??? i dont actually know what this means, like in depth. im sure this has something to do with light penetrating through semi-transparent skincells and illuminating blood,, but i cant be sure. thats just an educated guess. past oakley is always smarter than present oakley for some reason.

i usually combine it with reflected light to create a more cohesive look. burt like... yeah... theres plenty of people who can explain this better than me

ok thast all i hope this helped at least a little!!!!! LOTS of youtube videos. lots of visualizing silly little particles bouncing around. i probably forgot some stuff.
