Another ridiculously funny thing in the OracleFam is like... Genuinely the existence of the kids who all kinda dysfunctionally form a pseudo family and listen to Barbara as she sorta raises them but not. Like, imagine you're Jim Gordon. Your beautiful daughter that's biologically your niece but by god she's YOUR daughter and you love her so decides that she's gonna use her intelligence and skills and experience as a borderline A-Lister to lead superhero teams and play support for anyone who needs it, primarily your vigilante friend Batman.

Then one day, you visit your incredible daughter who always thinks things out and is careful... And bam. There's just this unexplained little girl who doesn't talk. Apparently your daughter is looking after a traumatized assassin child now. Do you now have a daughter in law? It's complicated because your daughter and your vigilante bestie somehow managed to start acting like they divorced and have split custody over this kid, despite them never even liking eachother. Great.

Then you visit again. The girl your daughter is looking after has a best friend sleeping over. You're sure you won't see her around to to much right?

Then you visit again, the blond girl your kinda grand daughter is best friends with is there again. Your daughter corrects you, *there still. You aren't sure where the kid sleeps because there's only two bedrooms; but apparently she just stays over often.

You visit five more times, see this "Stephanie" with "Cass" everytime. You ask if they're dating. They aren't. You ask if Steph is another Cass situation. She's not.

Then Stephanie dies.

Then Stephanie comes back to life.

Then Cass dies.

Then Cass comes back to life.

They go straight back to being inseparable. Your daughter tells you they hallucinate each other when separated for too long.

Then you visit again and HOLY FUCK IS THAT A DE-AGED VERSION OF YOUR DAUGHTER WALKING- nope she's just looking after another kid Barbara's looking after. Apparently this one was actually an orphan this time. ... ... ... "This time?"

Oh and the whole time this takes place while your daughter is suspiciously single but surrounded by a whole team of beautiful women, a few of whom she's incredibly close with. Also Barbara splits custody with this newest one, "Charlie" with some of these ladies, tho she does most of the... Whatever she's doing. But she doesn't seem to have the divorced-without-dating dynamic she has with Batman so ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠⊙⁠_⁠ʖ⁠⊙⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯

Oh and your daughter's ex seemingly just hates the first daughter. Fascinating.

You still, after YEARS of Cassandra and Stephanie never being far apart, don't know if they're dating or not. Surely they are, right? But no announcement or revelation comes forth, and your daughter still says they aren't.

Actually ok so in the topic of Charlie, Ive been writing ShivaBabs as a ship lately, with the full OracleFam present and just... Ball of ADHD who doesn't know who Shiva is, meeting Shiva and just talking mile a minute but also inexplicably being good at fighting enough to have gotten the jump on Dinah and her birds? Shiva just having no clue what to do with possibly deaged Babs? Clone Babs? No? Babs is here and normal? You just found this one? Oh. This one found you. Fascinating. What.

i have not thought about it but man the concept of shiva and charlie interacting would be SO FUNNY and also absolutely chaotic and intriguing like grown ass woman who's an extremely skilled combatant vs young child who can teleport around and has self healing powers and overzealously looks up to heroines to the extent she reverse adopts the birds of prey into being her mentors slash cool sisters. sandra won't be an exception

Sorta related to the RB I added, derailing your post a bit. But like, Oraclefam is where I'm at. Babs, her daughter Cass, her whatever Steph is, her brother/cousin figure Bruce, and her little brother Jason (imo his best interpretations always also make him EXCLUSIVELY listen to Babs which... Yeah ofc he'd listen to her its Babs)

Babs would be a way better head of the family than Bruce. Not that the "family" would be any more nuclear or tradition.

Cass and Steph are somewhat like her sisters. She was Cass's primary source of support and love when she came to Gotham. She's became a sort of mother figure, despite her being only 7 years older. And she mentored Steph in a much looser and more personal way to how Bruce mentored Dick. She's not Steph's boss, they're friends and vigilante partners who pledged to always have each other's back. Also Steph's the only person in the world that can out-snark her.

Dinah and Helena are always around as friends and colleagues. Dinah's her bestie for real and they definitely fucked but it didn't ruin anything thank god. Helena and her clash and have this homoerotic thing going but still grew close. Helena even cried when Babs reformed the Birds, less than a year after the breakup.

Dick floats in and out; they've always been more than friends but they're more than love interests too. No one gets Babs like Dick does and vice-versa; they've seen each other at their best and worst. Credit to them for remaining this close even throughout their "we have history" era. Also they finally married in Nightwing/Oracle.

Tim's like Dick's goofy, spoiled kid brother Babs used to babysit and Damian this traumatised, stabby brat that her lil sis Steph has taken under her wing.

Bab's dad was Renee's old boss and Renee is now Helena's roomie for even more homoerotic fun times. And there's Wendy; another one of Babs's mentees who she plays basketball with.

Bruce could never.

There's also Jim, her adoptive cop dad who's also her biological uncle and her adoptive brother James Jr. who is a serial killer. 😀

I have a weird relationship with Jason. Don't associate him with me I acknowledge him I think about him but first and foremost I am an OracleFam girl, then Arrowfam. And thing about Arrow fans? Fucking hate Jason's guts. He blew up Mia Dearden. He's basically to Roy what Dick is to Barbara. I dont like him.

BUT god I'm insane for him too in one specific setting: I love him in (the incredibly bad for Roy) Red Hood//Arsenal run where he all but adopted Joker's Daughter. I think he should have adopted her. But no. God forbid anything happens to Jason, that would make him an actual character instead of a threat levied at your favorite ArrowFam character. But then Batman: Cheer and Red Hood: The Hill exist, and he has a character that's interesting.

haha it's fine i totally get how you could get confused about it. i was talking about one of my other a-name mutuals @/bestangelofall, who got me into yelenat and really likes jason todd. yeah i totally get why would NOT like him as an oraclefam/arrowfam girlie lol. tbh im not even too big of a fan of him, but i end up liking him via proxy. like a fan-in-law lmfao. i like him bc my moots like him haha. yeah.... god forbid they let jason be anything other than "the kid who died"..... rip (<- knows basically nothing about jason todd. take my words w a grain of salt)

Yeah like, I mean I'd argue most of the core batfam is family but like, in a non nuclear family way, but god Steph takes every damn action to distance herself. The only argument I'd take is MAYBE Barbara being the family link BC, frankly let's be real, there's batfam and Oraclefam. But she's the girl next door. She's not his kid. Bruce loves her for sure but he loves everyone.

Wild to me how people say Cass can't date to Steph because they're basically siblings when:

Steph first really got associated with the family by dating Cass's adopted brother, so that the sibling allegations are inherently weird

There is no world in which Bruce sees Steph as a daughter, she's a friend of his actual children who he sees around a lot

Bruce isn't her father figure, he's her bother figure (because he's always bothering her)

The bat family does not mean literal family, it's like a weird friend group/a sitcom style workplace that's weirdly close. Bruce is basically a grumpy guy Steph is interning for at this point

You think Steph and Babs ever bond simply because Cass could never understand some of the shared experiences of the other two batgirls? That Steph and Babs bond over how Bruce treated them, that Babs tells Steph about how he tried to fire her too. About the traumas they experienced that Cass just simply hasn't?

It's so refreshing reading Claremont as a DC (OracleFam especially) reader. Like what? He MEANT for it to be gay? Not like Chuck Dixon where he just... Somehow write it gay despite his best efforts? It's amazing.

Literally this guy was the biggest yuri advocate i swear to god. He was the one who basically made Mystique and Destiny as gay as possible, along with creating Northstar (who was the first gay character in comics to ever be in a gay wedding). Chuck Dixon is so homophobic that it kind of turns around to being gay lmao.

Chris Claremont was practically spitting in the CCA's face by queer-coding basically 90% of his female characters. which is. objectively hilarious.

1) start with the DCAU (obviously)

2) scroll on tumblr LONG after, slowly get comic stuff, think "that's so cool!"

3) wonder into a comic shop out of boredom one day, buy two issues of Batman: Second Son (Jace Fox)

4) see stuff for Stargirl on tumblr, remember how much I loved her in JLU, buy Stargirl and the Lost Children, leading me to buy JSA. While picking up back log, see Spirit World and Steelworks. Buy those too, learn about pull lists, set those up.

5) pull everything that looks cool, realize I don't pull any batman/Superman/Wonder Woman/etc, try to remedy this three months after getting into the hobby.

6) bank account suffers.

Anyway now I'm at the point of explaining to people that my favorite group is the Oracle-fam and then doing a full lecture about how the idea of an OracleFam is stronger than that of a Batfam.

What stages i think (or hope) most dc fans went through

1/ discover dc comics through an animated or live action series or movie

2/think you could start comics with one of the main jl hero (but probably batman)

(at this stage you might have watched a video about where to start)

3/ find out your favourite character from that team/family

4/ discover more about them until you read a comics where they team up with one or more character(s) from another big fam

5/ get more and more niche from one team up to another until when someone asks your favourite character you realise you can't answear the question without assessing how much the person who asks knows about comics first

6/ enjoy feeling overwhelmed with the amount of arcs you want to read

If you don't know dc comics i'll say batgirl, if you know a bit of comics i might say nightwing and even dona troy or jessica cruz if you know more

Then i'll ask if you know booster or midnighter

I've fully just decided to tag anything relating to the girls plus Duke as "OracleFam" like no Bruce, take your boys and go away. Duke's allowed in the same way Steph was Batfam (family friend) I'm here fir the Oracle Fam of Cass Steph Babs (duh) Charlie Gage-Radcliffe and Duke, yk?

Any time someone makes a post that includes only the four male robins I imagine Barbara, Cass, Steph and Duke having a blast in the clocktower watching the drama through the cameras. It used to be just the girls, but one day Cass brought Duke with her and said "one of us". The others rolled with it cause Duke can hang.

Also Duke is the guy from the meme "when you say something is for the girls can you include me, like, For the girls and Duke"
