Marlene didn't know what was going on. She saw her classmates whispering and running outside the classroom. But Marlene wasn't a curious person. Okay, she was, but she tried not to be an idiot as her classmates who ran to see the news.

"What do you think is going on?"

But Mary wasn't subtle about it. She loved gossip and she had to know everything that was going on.

"Maybe two girls fighting for a bloke" Marlene tutted.

Marlene didn't know why she suddenly wanted to watch that and she shook her thoughts away because she was not a stupid horny boy. She didn't know if she liked girls yet. She liked one girl. She liked Dorcas.

"Oh! Maybe is another declaration of love" Lily smiled "Remember what Gerard did for Vicky last week?"

"That was hilarious" Mary giggled.

"I would die if someone does something like that for me" Marlene shivered.

Marlene didn't know how to tell her friends that the kiss she gave Sirius at the party didn't mean anything. That she actually did it to erase the confusing feelings she was having for Dorcas. But she had been an idiot. She didn't like Sirius like that.

"What is going in on between you and him?" Lily asked curiously.

"What do you mean?" Marlene wished she wasn't blushing.

"You snogged at the party" Mary said as if it was clear.

"And?"

"And??" Mary insisted. Lily was smiling.

Marlene felt awful. She should've told them the truth. They were her best friends after all.

Marlene liked joking and teasing Sirius. Sirius did the same to her. But that was all. They were just good friends. But people didn't understand that.

But before she could speak, Edgar, the king of gossip, came towards them.

"It's Sirius and his dad" he said "The man is screaming at him in front of the whole school"

They didn't need to hear more. They immediately ran towards the commotion.

"YOU ARE EMBARRASSING ME AND YOUR FAMILY, SIRIUS. I AM REALLY ASHAMED THAT YOU SCHOOL CALLED ME HERE FOR YOUR STUPID DECISIONS AGAIN"

Marlene and the girls got there in time to see Orion Black yelling furiously at Sirius. There was a large group of students gathered to watch the scene. Marlene felt sick. Morbid wankers. But yet she was also there.

"YOU NEED TO START BEHAVING LIKE A MAN, SIRIUS. NOT LIKE A FREAKING CHILD"

The worst part was that Sirius had blood on his nose. His father had probably hit him before they got there.

But Sirius was more embarrassed that his father was making a scene in front of everyone.

"WHAT WAS THAT? SPEAK LOUDER!! NOT LIKE A FUCKING PUSSY"

"Please!" Sirius said louder "Can we talk about this somewhere else?"

There were no teachers around to stop this. James wanted to do something. But Lily touched his arm to stop him. Orion Black was so furious that he was capable of hurting others. Everyone else was too scared to do anything.

"Oh... you are embarrassed now, ha? You are embarrassed with your friends? You should have thought that before pulling this little mischief of yours!"

Marlene saw Sirius clenching his fists. He was visibly shaking.

"Say something, you fucking twat!!! APOLOGIZE!"

Sirius murmured something under his breath.

"SPEAK UP, YOU FUCKING SISSY!"

"I AM SO FUCKING TIRED OF YOU HUMILIATING ME ALL THE TIME!!"

Sirius didn't only yell but he also pushed his father.

Orion went red of fury and he raised his hand to do something else. That's when Marlene panicked. Lily gasped next to her.

Before Marlene could think about it, she walked over them.

"There you are, my caramel cone. I was looking for you everywhere, baby!"

Marlene hugged Sirius. She was aware of everyone looking at her. But at least Orion had stopped before doing anything else.

Sirius was confused. But now that Marlene had started it, she had to continue.

"Oh hello, Mr. B" Marlene smiled at Orion "What are you doing here? What's going on?"

"I am sorry, who are you?" Orion asked impatiently.

"I am Marlene" she grabbed Sirius' arm "Sirius' girlfriend"

Marlene was conscious of the murmurs around everyone present.

Orion was amused, he raised an eyebrow at Marlene.

"Is that so?"

"You didn't tell your father about us, cupcake?"

"Amm..." Sirius was too shocked to respond.

"No, he didn't tell me" Orion crossed his arms

"Oh, he is so silly" Marlene chuckled "It's okay, the relationship is new.... Nice to meet you, sir. I am Marlene McKinnon"

She shook Orion's hand.

"Marcus McKinnon's girl?" Orion asked.

"Yeah"

Marlene wasn't surprised that her father knew Mr. Black. He was a famous rugby player after all.

Orion nodded.

"Nice to meet you, darling. I am glad my son has a pretty girlfriend like you"

Marlene faked a smile. She was disgusted to be called pretty by such an awful man.

Orion was still angry to had been interrupted. But he did his best to hide it.

"I better go and talk to Dumbledore, then"

He walked towards Sirius and he flinched. But he didn't hit him. He just gave him a hug.

"All I do is for your own good, son. You know that, right?" Orion said "It's okay" he patted his cheek "We'll talk about your punishment later" he faked a laugh.

Then he whispered on Sirius' ear. But since Marlene was near, she could hear him clearly.

"Don't you feel shameful that your little girlfriend saved you? You're such a coward, Sirius"

Orion let him go, he adjusted his suit and he walked away.

Sirius was still shaking in anger. All eyes on him. Marlene felt sorry for him. Nobody dared to say anything.

It was James who finally spoke.

"Hey Sirius..."

But Sirius ran away. He went in the same direction his father left. It seemed like he was going to confront him even more.

Marlene followed shorty.

"Sirius, wait..." Marlene said as she tried to keep up with him. Sirius didn't stop "What are you going to do?"

"It is none of your business, McKinnon..." Sirius sounded furious, with a lot of adrenaline.

"Are you going to confront him?" Marlene asked "That's stupid"

Sirius didn't listen. Marlene ran to grab his arm.

"Sirius!"

"Leave me alone!" Sirius yelled at her "What the fuck was that? My girlfriend? I wasn't aware of us dating!"

"It was the first thing I could think off!" Marlene yelled back "I needed to stop him"

Sirius snorted and shook his head "I thought you were into girls..."

"I am!" Marlene yelled, but then she whispered "I think I am..."

At least that was what Marlene told Sirius after their kiss and how it could never work between them.

"If you wanted me so badly you should've told me not medle between my father and me like that!"

"Well I was just trying to help you, you absolute wanker! Excuse me for caring! Jesus Freaking Christ!" Marlene tutted.

Sirius looked calmer. His breathing was slowing down. But he looked sad. He looked really sad.

"The whole school is going to think we are dating" he added more calmed.

Marlene shrugged.

"Dorcas is going to think that. Didn't you fancy her?"

Marlene pursed her lips.

"She doesn't feel the same anyway" Marlene whispered.

Sirius didn't say anything. But he was impatient. He began pacing and rubbing his hair.

"I am not a coward. I am not afraid of him" he said "I am going to go there and..."

"Get into a fight with your father?" Marlene asked "What for?"

"I am going to show him he cannot humiliate me, Marlene!" Sirius snapped "He needs to know I am not afraid of him!"

Marlene shook her head.

"I knew you didn't have a brain but I didn't know you could be so stupid, Sirius"

Sirius looked at her curiosly.

"Don't respond violence with violence, you freaking tosser. There are more intelligent ways to get back at him"

"Like what?"

"I don't know..." Marlene shrugged "Like dating a lesbian for instance"

Sirius' expression changed. He smiled and then he laughed. Marlene joined him.

"You are so annoying, you freaking cow"

"Dickhead!"

"Bloody witch!"

"Prick"

"Cunt!" Sirius smiled

"Whinny asshole!"

"God! Stop being obsessed with me"

"Please" Marlene chuckled "As if I care about you and your tiny dick"

Sirius' smile became funny. And his eyes filled with tears. He was about to cry.

Marlene's heart broke and she pulled Sirius in for a hug.

Sirius started sobbing on Marlene's shoulder and she realized it was the first time she had ever seen him cry. Five years of knowing him and not actually seeing Sirius as a person with feelings and problems. He had a horrible dad.

Marlene thought this was what friends experienced with each other. And she quite liked being Sirius' friend.

It was nice knowing this side of Sirius.

"Please don't tell anyone about this" Sirius begged.

Marlene didn't know what he meant. Their conversation? The fact that they weren't in a relationship? Or that he was crying?

But Marlene didn't ask. She kissed his cheek.

"Yeah, don't worry, wanker" she said "I promise"
