If a Sailor got into trouble with his mates or otherwise became conspicuous, it was made unmistakably clear to him that he had to hang his hammock somewhere else, he had to "sling his hook". Since space aboard was rare and there was not enough room to sleep everywhere, this was actually a punishment from the crew.
“In the days following the ICJ's decision, the US, Canada, UK, and at least 7 other countries have cut over $662 million in annual funding to UNRWA. The cuts to UNRWA's funding, which constitute the overwhelming majority of its current budget, are an impending catastrophe for more than 6 million Palestinians residing in 60 refugee camps in Occupied Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, and Syria.
UNRWA, or the United Nations Relief and Work Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East, was created in 1949 as a response to the 'Nakba' or catastrophe of 1948, to provide relief and support human development for Palestinian refugees exiled in 1948 and later years, along with their descendants.
The decision to defund UNRWA a day after the ICJ's decision to grant the majority of provisional measures requested by South Africa is not coincidental. Imperialist powers are seeking to offset the international developments around the ICJ ruling, and prevent aid from entering Palestine.”

I jokingly thought before that reading Junie B. Jones as a kid turned me into a feminist, but unironically, it kind of did.
I honestly think it comes down to the fact that Junie B. was not only allowed to be "weird," but her character arc never concluded like other girl characters would. In other media featuring "weird girls," the girl always ended her arc tamed - by force or convince, she would be prettied up, she would smile and be polite, and she would never speak out of turn. She would be perfect then, and would shed her veneer of individuality with the freedom that is conformity. As a kid, I noticed that girls weren't permitted to be "weird" like boys were. So when I read Junie B. Jones, I loved that she was frankly just fucking weird. She said things out of turn, she was rambunctious and imaginative and she was a realistic portrayal of a little girl. I loved reading those books because the narrative taught her lessons without punishing her for being weird, if that makes sense. So often, narratives punished weird girls for the crime of being a socially unacceptable girl, not for any true wrongdoing like lying.
Anyway, I just think it's interesting, because I watched and read a ton of books and shows and movies featuring girls and women, but none of them truly empathized with (or even tried to empathize with) weird girls on their own merits and capabilities and terms, or embraced the idea of a "socially inept/unacceptable" girl without punishing her in some way for her supposed ineptitude.

Can't stop thinking about the fact that Wriothesley is a former underground boxer.
Was it... legal? Did he do it for money? For the thrill? He's called a "Duke" now, but it's unclear if that was a title awarded for his ascension to the head of the Fortress of Meropide (like the monarch "knighting" outstanding people (Sir Patrick Stuart for example)). It's perfectly likely that he had a humble start in life.
The livestream also confirms that Wriothesley is a somewhat recent addition to Meropide, so I'd say he's only had this role for a few years at most. Does that mean he was boxing up until recently too?
Wriothesley is covered in scars (there's a huge one on his neck)... Is that from his past? Did someone pull a knife out in a fight, or was he attacked afterward from some disgruntled opponent?
If this was an illegal practice, he could have been set up to lose a fight and refused, then attacked by whatever mob bosses he fucked over.
Idk. I enjoy the idea that in his younger years he wasn't quite so upstanding - I have this image in my mind of little twenty-something Wriothesley getting caught when the underground fighting ring got taken down. Everyone's put on trial but really Neuvillette & the courts care about the organisers, not the fighters that got caught in the crossfire. And Wriothesley is all freshly scarred and clearly not guilty of all the financial crimes going on behind the scenes.
Obviously there's some class disparity in Fontaine. Wriothesley has that voiceline "don't break the law... seriously" but he also reformed Meropide and treats the reasonable inmates as equals. Imagine if that came from his history, seeing his peers be punished for actions that society forced them into. And maybe Wriothesley got off lightly, but he'd be able to empathise with all the people who didn't.
And there's that official art of Wriothesley and Neuvillette in the office together, which obviously doesn't confirm that they have met (yoimiya & Kaeya art lol), but they almost certainly have. So I wonder if it was that near miss with a guilty verdict that put Wriothesley on Neuvillette's radar. Neuvillette is caring, so maybe he took steps to help the people who got caught up in the fighting, including Wriothesley. And it's those connections that later allow Wriothesley to take a position in Meropide, making the reformations that treat those who are guilty more fairly.
"Let the cat out of the bag" and "No room to swing a cat"
We know these two terms today in a different context, but we'll come to that later. First of all, we are dealing with both terms in the area of punishments, whether at sea or on land, but definitely with a military background. However, it can be said that they have been used in nautical language since the 1600s. But what exactly is meant by it, well when it was said let the cat out of the bag it meant that someone would be flogged.
Now not every warship was a space wonder and had a lot of space available and since all of the crew had to attend this event, the space was even tighter, and the " kitty cat " (not a cat in the true sense of the word but the cat o nine tails - the whip) we are talking about here was very long in the 17th century (later much shorter) and in order to swing it reasonably you needed space to hit the person to be punished reasonably. Hence the expression when it was too narrow - there wasn't enough room for the cat.
This expression is also used today when there is simply not enough space and it is quite crowded around you. When you say let the cat out of the bag, this is a colloquial expression that means to reveal previously hidden facts.
Screaming. Princess Luna is beloved in fandom because she represents the outcasted and the societally rejected. She represented the unorthodox, as the princess of the night in a world that revolves around the day. She represents inner desires and feelings, as the guardian of dreams. She represents being true to yourself even if it’s scary or weird to others. She’s an icon to alienated and demonised minorities.
Even in the show, the parts of her that herself and most of the world considers to be the worst, there is always that one child that connects with it. Just like how we relate and reclaim the idea of monstrosity being cool, ponies too celebrate her in their nightmare night festivals, as a symbol of the unconventional.
If fanon is filled with the rejected and outcasted and misunderstood, for those that find love in what others call cringe, then it makes sense that Luna is a fandom favourite.

hey. Just letting everybody know I don't support any of Jon Bernthals projects anymore. He's been silent with what's been going on in Palestine and that makes me extremely uncomfortable.
I will probably still watch DD Born again. (I will 🏴☠️ it just like i do to every single movie/show I've ever watched).
As for COD, I'm not sure if I'll post anything or write for it again. If I do, it's probably going to be very ooc. And I'll start cleaning out my blog from the pictures of the voice actors. The same goes for Jon Berthnal as well and other celebrities that are keeping silent or justifying the genocide going on.
The reason why it took me so long to come on here and say this is because I don't spend my money on celebrities. Like I always pirate stuff and I don't go out of my way to search up my favorite actor of the week and see what he's up to on social media because I don't care. and I know I'll probably find something shady.
(if you see reblogs abt jon or cod actors it's just my queue and it will be deleted from my blog eventually)
