I never really remember characters like Nightwing or Wally West as Flash or Superboy as well as I do their original counterparts (Batman, Barry Allen, Superman, etc). And I know why. It's because to acknowledge a character changing, you've gotta acknowledge them aging. And I may talk a big talk about that, but I actually can't cope with it. I like my unchanging constants. Life would be good for me if there was just some unchanging constants. But no. Stuff always changes. Stuff is always being mixed up and messed around, and my brain struggles with it. It's not really an offense to the characters, it's just that my brain can't see time passing significantly enough for some of batman's kids to be in their mid to late 20s. It's baffling. My brain doesn't handle it too well (in the sense that I enjoy the characters, but always forget the changes). Maybe this is just a me thing, but it always happens. I don't even like change in real life. Change in fiction is better, but not much. It's still rough to cope with. sigh...
PS: This rule applies to comics too. I don't hate Miles Morales, but I almost never remember he exists. He's just there, a blank slate because my brain can't cope with imagining the other characters aging. Change is not my thing, and change just sends my mind reeling.

From Resistance to Resilience: Rewriting the First Draft of Change
From Resistance to Collaboration: The Human Side of Change Ever notice how the first draft of anything—whether it’s a blog post or a major organizational shift—rarely resembles the final version? It’s raw, messy, and often riddled with self-doubt. Author Anne Lamott coined the term “Shitty First Drafts” in her classic book on writing, Bird by Bird, encouraging writers to embrace the mess as a…

James Crews: Beech Trees in Spring
I want to be like the maples, letting go so easily of their leaves in the slightest autumn breeze, surrendering every piece of themselves they no longer need, and embracing bareness like a new suit they can simply step into. But I’m more like the beech trees, which cling to the husks of their leaves long into spring, refusing to give up even a scrap of who they once were until the last…

Why people resist change, Even When It Makes Life Easier
We like to think we are rational beings, but history, psychology, and our own day to day decisions suggest otherwise.
Most of us resist change, even when it promises an easier life. Not because we don’t want things to improve, but because change demands something from us, it asks us to let go of what’s familiar, to release the identity we’ve built around our current struggles, and to admit that the way we’ve been doing things might not have been the best way all along.
This isn’t just about grand life changes. It’s about the little things too.
• You know automating your finances would save you time, but you keep manually transferring money every month. (don't judge me!)
• You know a different work system would reduce stress, but you stick with your chaotic process because it’s yours.
• You know switching careers might make you happier, but the idea of starting over is paralysing. (been there)
Change is uncomfortable, even when it’s good. It forces us to grieve an old version of ourselves, and humans are sentimental creatures. We don’t just resist change, we resist the loss that comes with it.
So here’s a question:
What’s something you’ve resisted changing, even though you know it would make life easier? And what are you really afraid of losing?
(Reblog and let me know. I’m curious.)

A Map for What We Could Be
In a fizz, we are bubbles, growing old and popping out of existence, yet fixated on control. No mortal holds sway over the elements of this realm. The wind does not pause, quivering in its formlessness to ask permission. It sweeps through cracks, it shifts, it bends, it rattles windows as a sudden gale, twirls around the gardens stealing petals from flowers, it reshapes the world grain by grain,…

Resistance and Narcissism: The Cost of Self-Interest in the Face of Progress
Exuding confidence, yet hiding insecurities behind a carefully crafted mask—this leader’s pursuit of power is driven by an insatiable need for admiration. In every era of human history, there exists a resistance to change—a natural reluctance to move beyond the familiar and confront the unknown. Yet, in today’s world, this resistance often finds itself fueled by individuals whose motivations are…

Learn, to Change
My new blog is on Learning & Change. Do give your feedback
“History doesn’t repeat itself; human nature stays the same.” – Charlie Munger. There is a PJ that illustrates this mindset. A worker lost a finger while working on a circular saw. His manager went to the site to investigate the accident. “What happened?” he asked in anguish. The worker said, ” I was working on his critical job. I fed it slowly to the rotating saw machine like this, and…..Oh!…

Quote
This alone has been deemed resistance to change, a label that I am the main hindrance to my healing rather than a lack of fit between ideology and my existence. This reliance on "gold-standard" can often be so misleading when you look into the literature to see what "gold-standard" means, absent investigation of diversity factors or complexities that make lives REAL. Sometimes, "gold standard" is the one-size-fits-all shirt, itself a shame on your existence because you are not the "one-size".

From the article:
A recent report by Indigenous Environmental Network, or IEN, and Oil Change International, or OCI, found that Indigenous-led resistance to 21 fossil fuel projects in the U.S. and Canada over the past decade has stopped or delayed an amount of greenhouse gas pollution equivalent to at least one-quarter of annual U.S. and Canadian emissions.

Promises Broken
After the turn of the year, we’re pretty much maxed out. All things bright and shiny have drained our bank accounts, energy spent in equal measure. Fair to say, we wrap something in plaid paper, tie it up with ribbons, and cross our fingers, hoping for applause on the other end. Sure, the gift is in the giving, but isn’t someone always muttering, “Ugh, socks again? Blanket again? Mugs again?”…
