having soft thoughts of a sickie feeling guilty about puking up all the food caretaker made for them with so much love and care:
sickie having to maintain appearances, even as their poor stomach revolts agaisnt the heavy meal sitting inside it
sickie who can't help but grimace at the sight/smell/texture of the food, which makes caretaker think they might've messed it up
sickie clutching/hugging their middle as they try their hardest not to puke, thinking of the smile caretaker had on as they watched them eat, thinking they finally were starting to recover
sickie who has a hand clasped over their mouth, holding it tight to keep the food in no matter what, even to the protests of caretaker who's trying to tell them to just let it out, don't try to hold it
sickie who ends up losing the barely digested food over the blankets, sobbing apologies to a caretaker who's more worried about their well-being than anything else

Character A: You caught my cold. I'm so sorry.
Character B: It's okay. We can be sick together. It's kind of cozy.
Character A: Cozy and miserable. But at least we're in it together.

Sick Prompts II
1. “If you even so much as look like you’re about to pass out, I’m taking you to the hospital.”
2. “You don’t have to pretend you’re fine for me.”
3. “You were so sound asleep you would’ve missed the fire alarm going off if I didn’t wake you.”
4. “I’ll bring you some food.  It’s almost time to take your meds anyway.”
5. “If I see you leave that bed even once, I’m going to physically manhandle you back into it.”
6. “No kisses until you’re better!”
7. “Baby, it’s just a stomach ache.  You’ll be fine.”
8. “I told you eating that would make you sick.”
9. “Darling, look at me.  How many fingers am I holding up?”
10. “Let me know if there’s anything I can do.”
11. “Don’t even think about going to work/class today.”
12. “After all of the times I’ve told you it’s a bad idea, you still insist on going out to play in the rain.”
13. “You know I love you more than anything else in the world, but please cover your mouth when you sneeze.”
14. “We’re almost there, love.  Just stay with me a little bit longer.”
15. “Nightmare, huh?  Must’ve been a fever dream.”
16. “Scoot over.  It’s cuddle time.”
17. “Would you rather go to work/class and suffer because you obviously don’t feel well or stay in bed and get cuddles and forehead kisses and watch movies?”
18. “You can’t say the words vomit and okay in the same sentence.”
19. “You’re sick.  Let me baby you.”
20. “No one is expecting you to get over this immediately.”
21. “Why are you so dramatic whenever you get sick?”
22. “Can you even keep water down right now?”
23. “I know you hate hospitals and all, but I’m taking you to one.  Get in the car.”
24. “Okay Ms./Mr. I’m-not-sick, tell me why you sneezed five times in the span of an hour.”
25. “Please take your medicine, love.  It’ll help you get better.”
“26. “Well considering the fact that you’re shivering, the circles under your eyes are five times darker than they were two days ago, and your forehead feels like it’s on fire, yeah I’d say there’s a pretty good chance you’re sick.”
27. “I love you.  I really do.  But your immune system is shit.”
28. “Go to bed, darling.  You need to be resting.”
29. “You’ll live.”
30. “Oh my, 103.  That’s not good.”
31. “When we get home, I’m gonna wrap you like a burrito in my thickest blanket and put on your favorite movie.”
32. “I’ll be honest, babe.  You’re kinda cute when you’re all cranky.”
33. “You need to eat, love.  Just a little bit for me.”
34. “You look absolutely miserable.”
35. “Ooh.  That cough sounded like it hurt.”
36. “How bad is the pain right now from 0 to 10?”
37. “Aw, poor thing.”
38. “How’s your head feeling?”
39. “Would it make you feel better if I put a warm towel on your head played with your hair?”
40. “Don’t just stand around doing nothing!  Get him/her some water for god’s sake!”
41. “We’re not gonna watch a sad movie.  If you cry, you’ll get more congested.”
42. “As adorable as you look in my hoodie, I’m gonna ask that you please wash it before giving it back.”
43. “Come to bed, love.  I’d be kind of a terrible boyfriend/girlfriend/partner if I just let you sleep on the bathroom floor.”
44. “I find it really odd that you act all big and tough, but become a baby when you’re sick.  But that’s okay.  You’re my baby.”
45. “Don’t even try and tell me you’re not delirious.  You have spent all day mumbling abstract nonsense to yourself.”

Hello! I am totally new to reading Zukka and would love some recommendations. If you've already done this, please feel free to just link to another post! I would love a few recs of what you consider to be "must-reads". I'm open to any length or rating (although I tend to read rated E), I would just love to start with a few that are phenomenal :)
Hi stavro!
Welcome to the wonderful world of Zukka fics!
Here's a Zukka starter pack for you, I limited it to 10 fics to stop it from getting too unwieldy, but it was really difficult to keep it so short tbh, so if you want more lmk!
Zukka Must-Reads
Blue by blacklipscurse
Available on Ao3, Complete (Part 1), Teen, Slowburn, Canon-Divergence, Canon-Typical Violence, Blue Spirit Zuko, Secret Indentities, Ba Sing Se, Angst, H/C, Homophobia, Physical Disability, Humour / Humor
Wordcount: 192,682
This fic is a whole damn phenomenon in this fandom and it's phenomenal to match! The way the characters are written really draws you in. It's a very emotive fic and I truly cannot emphasise how funny blacklipscurse's writing is, I laughed a lot. Especially at Zuko, and sometimes Sokka. 😅 There is a sequel but it's a WIP and Blue can stand alone. :)
absence of heat, excess of destiny by theycallmesuperboy / @baegarrick
Available on Ao3, Complete, Gen, Canon-Compliant, Alternate Universe - Soulmate, AU - Soulmate-Identifying Marks
Wordcount: 4,336
Absolute classic, and I love soulmate fics so for me this is top tier.
Real Slow by surveycorpsjean (Ao3) / zanimez (Tumblr)
Available on Ao3, Complete, Mature, Post-Canon, Fluff, Smut, H/C, Angst, Ambassador Sokka
Wordcount: 21,490
The way their relationship gently unfurls in this is very satisfying. Highly recommend!
Hallowed by HairCrescendo / @sword-and-stars
Available on Ao3, Complete, Explicit, Smut, Fluff
Wordcount: 4,615
Smouldering smut and fluffy feelings. I'd recommend all of HairCrescendo's work tbh, they're a fantastic writer and they have about a dozen more Explicit works. ;)
three words that become hard to say (I and love and you) by overcomeeithlongingfora_girl / @overcomewithlongingfora-girl
Available on Ao3, Complete, Explicit, Smut, Praise Kink, Subdrop, Domdrop, Light BDSM
Wordcount: 2,977
This fic is hothotHOT, and yet also so sweet and emotional it makes my heart hurt. Bring a fan and some tissues.
Courtesan by lesbianophelia / @mendontprotectyou
Available on Ao3, Complete, Explicit, Post-Canon, Established Relationship, Light Praise Kink
Wordcount: 2,200
So scrumptious I just want to eat it. Prepare to feel things. 🔥
For Peace and Zuko by BeersForQueers / @omgbeersforqueers
Available on Ao3, Complete, Explicit, Slowburn, Alternate Universe - Arranged Marriage, Future Fic, Canon-Divergence
Wordcount: 43,277
Speaking of classics, honestly you could read anything and everything by BeersForQueers and I would recommend doing so! They're a longtime member of the fandom. They were there for this ship when it needed it most (I want you to know that I just blew a kiss to the sky). Having said that, For Peace and Zuko is one of my absolute favourites. The sequel Ice Cave makes for a lovely epilogue.
when the prison doors are opened by alternatedoom
Available on Ao3, Complete, Explicit, Underage, Sickfic, Angst, H/C, Voyeurism, Animal Killed for Food, FWB, Imprisonment, Dub-Con
Wordcount: 164,648
I don't know if this counts as slowburn given... ahem, the progression of things. On the emotional front, perhaps. Their relationship development is messy in a delicious way, really twists you around into such wonderful spirals... Idek if I'm making any sense, that's what this fic does to my mental capacity! Every character interaction is just so so good and the way the tension gets ratcheted up and then unwound is captivating. I could gush about this fic all day, but instead I'll just leave it at: it's really, really good and you should read it.
In the Soft Light by CSHfic and VSfic
Available on Ao3, Complete, Teen, Slowburn, Pining, Canon-Divergence, Alternate Universe - War Ended Early, Angst, H/C, Firelord Azulon, Miscommunication, Pining, Underage Drinking, AU - Moon Spirit Sokka, side Bakoda, Sickfic, Implied/Referenced Child Abuse, Bed-Sharing
Wordcount: 83,904
Some of my absolute favourite authors in this fandom and all of their work is fantastic quality. In terms of spot-on characterisation, wonderful descriptions, plenty of humour to balance out the angst... Their writing is masterful, and this is one of my favourites of their fics. They have more mature/explicit works as well. ;) (Side-note: I absolutely adore Zuko in this fic).
(do you take this jerk to be) your one and only by jatersade
Available on Ao3, Complete, Teen, Slowburn, Angst, Enemies to Friends to Lovers, Arranged Marriage, Bed-Sharing, Misunderstandings, Pining, AU - Royalty, Alternate Universe - 100 Year War Ended Early, Implied/Referenced Child Abuse
Wordcount: 55,846
I love the arranged marriage trope and I love it when authors play around with the gang's status as the children of royalty and world leaders, and this fic does all of that so well. Jatersade's pacing and the quality of their charecterisarion really elevates this fic.
---
I wanted to keep this list to complete fics, but I do have to mention feels like we only go backwards by oldpotatoe, because although it's a WIP it is iconic.
Also, a personal favourite of mine that has been discontinued (but didn't end on a cliffhanger or anything) is invisible string by wilteddaisy (taotu). I have it saved to my phone as a PDF for when I need a comfort read, that's how much I love it.

For Your Consideration
2023 year was my first year in the fandom (well, technically 2022 was my first year in the fandom and the year I made my Belle rp blog, but in terms of actually contributing something to the fandom 2023 was my first year).
I started it off with great ambitions regarding writing and gifing and editing. I ended up posting only a handful of gifsets, three ficlets, two of which I wrote for Rumbelle Showdown (shoutout to @jackabelle73 for hosting this wonderful event last year, by the way), and 0 fanvids/edits. I'm not particularly proud of it, and I really, really wanna make much more content this year. We'll see how it goes 😅
Anyway, I still decided to give participating in @the-chipped-cup-awards a try. It looked fun last year, when I was only a bystander.
So, without further rambling, I offer to your consideration what little I wrote and made in the year 2023.

oohh okay okay. sickfic where dennis has the tiniest little cold or smth and is being SO overdramatic about it so mac will take care of him
Thank you for the prompt!
~
Dennis is annoying.
Okay, everyone already knows this. The dude is a fountain of complaints and unhappiness to the point that Mac isn’t sure he’s ever really been comfortable anywhere. Mac’s convinced Den popped outta his mom’s vagina like that, all cranky and irritable and dramatic. He met Dennis when the dude was barely 16; his hair was too curly, and his ego was too big from being a yuppy rich kid. Yet – and he still doesn’t understand this – here they are 30 years later, where Mac’s got a lifetime of calming Dennis down under his belt.
Except he hasn’t been successful today. Something is different about today.
For starters, Dennis woke up late, grumbling under his breath about being cold. Except it’s the middle of May, and there’s absolutely no logical reason for him to be cold, but that doesn’t stop Dennis from bitching every three Goddamn seconds at Mac to turn on the heat, to which Mac responds with a quick “fuck that,” because, seriously, fuck that. It’s close to 80 degrees outside, and the humidity is atrocious. Like he said, there’s no logical reason for Dennis’ behavior (there never really is), and Mac is convinced that he’s sunk into the depths of Hell long before they even leave the apartment to go to work.
For seconds, Dennis has this cough and runny nose that’s been bothering him for the last couple days. It’s barely anything bat an eye at. But, in true Dennis fashion, the guy will not stop bringing it up. Last night when Mac was cooking dinner, he went on and on about how he couldn’t smell anything, about how his throat was starting to hurt from coughing, about how dangerously dehydrated he was, and why wasn’t Mac making him drink water? It’s a stupid question because of course Mac’s been force-watering Dennis since 1999, but Mac pointing out that fact doesn’t make the situation any more better. In fact, something about him saying that offends Dennis. Although, what doesn’t offend Dennis? But anyway, Den spent the rest of the night sulking underneath a blanket on the couch, demanding that Mac rub his calves, which Mac was gonna do anyway.
And, now, Dennis is sitting at the bar, sneezing wetly into his open palm.
Mac rolls his eyes. “Do you need a tissue?”
“Don’t use my own line on me.” His voice is nasally.
“What? Ew. No, you know I didn’t mean it like that.”
Dennis scoffs. “Ew? What do you mean ‘ew’?”
Mac sighs. “Nothing. Never mind. Here.” He hands Dennis a crumpled tissue from the pockets of his Dickies. “Blow your nose.”
Dennis snatches it from him. “Don’t tell me what to do.” But he blows his nose messily anyway. “Jesus Christ, when is this gonna stop?”
He’s dangerously close to rolling his eyes, but he’s probably, like, reached his daily quota of eye rolling, so he settles on looking Dennis over instead. The guy’s wearing an oversized hoodie, something he wouldn’t typically be caught dead in. His baby blues are a little bloodshot. He isn’t wearing any foundation, and his hair is tousled from all of his irritating body noises. He is a little paler than normal. Not anything super significant, and it’s nothing to worry about, but it’s still just a little out of the ordinary.
“Relax. You’re being dramatic,” Mac finds himself saying as he takes a swig of his beer.
Dennis snaps his head back, eyes wide. “Dramatic? I may be dying, Mac, but I see that doesn’t matter to you.”
Mac snorts. “Dying? Den, you have a cold,” he says. “I’m not even sure I would classify this as a cold.”
“Oh yeah?” His voice is getting all high and whiny in that way that Mac hates. “You wouldn’t ‘classify’ this as a cold? Look at you using big words all of a sudden.”
“Hey, I use big words all the time!” Mac exclaims.
Dennis sticks his tongue out at him.
Mac punches Dennis on the arm.
“Fuck,” Dennis groans as he rubs his upper arm. He sniffles and wipes his nose with his sleeve instead of using the tissue in his hand. Mac tries to ignore how pitiful and pathetic he looks. “Why would you do that, Mac? I’m sick.”
“Oh my god, dude, you’re not sick! You. Have. A. Cold.”
Dennis basically sticks his bottom fucking lip out and looks all of ten years old once Mac says that. He coughs and clears his throat before putting his head in his hands. He’s bent over the bar and sniffling every five seconds, and it’s starting to drive Mac up the wall. He doesn’t understand why Dennis is like this literally every time he has a cold. God forbid he ever gets the flu or some shit because then – oh, boy – that’s when the real fun starts. When Dennis is sick, actually sick, he likes to bask in denial until he’s practically hospitalized.
Mac exhales and reaches out until his hand is on the small of Dennis’ back. Charlie and Frank are messing around in the basement, and Dee – the bitch – never showed up for work today, so he doesn’t have to worry about any of their stupid questions or hurried accusations about how ‘gay’ they are. He rubs his lower back with his thumb. Dennis doesn’t flinch or pull away. In fact, Mac thinks he feels him kinda sink into the touch a little bit. Huh. Maybe he isn’t feeling too good after all.
“Why don’t we go home?” Mac suggests. “I’ll put in a movie, and we can just chill out the rest of the night.”
Dennis sniffles. “I’d like that,” he says roughly.
So that’s what they do.
Mac drives back to their apartment because, in the fading afternoon light, Dennis does sorta look like crap. He keeps the car quiet and absurdly warm. Dennis nods off long enough for Mac to grab some overpriced cold meds, tissues, and cough syrup from the Wawa. By the time they arrive home, Mac is manhandling Dennis out of the Range Rover and up the stairs. Dennis coughs and wipes his nose on his sleeve again.
“Go change into some PJs. I’ll put in Predator.”
Dennis returns a couple minutes later in one of Mac’s few long sleeved shirts and green plaid pajama pants. He takes a seat on the leather couch and leans his head on his arm. Mac changes too and sets the box of tissues on Dennis’ lap, who immediately digs into them. Orange juice and cold meds in hand, he sits down shoulder to shoulder with Dennis, who is looking more miserable as the minutes pass.
“I got you some cough syrup too,” Mac says as he gives the meds to Dennis. “Just in case.”
Mac watches as Dennis swallows the juice and pills. He gulps noisily and swipes a tissue under his nose. “Ugghhh,” he murmurs. “This sucks.”
And that’s when Dennis puts his head on Mac’s shoulder. Mac stiffens and tries to steady his breathing. He and Dennis have had nights like this before, where touching isn’t so foreign and scary, especially recently. Eventually, Mac melts into it too, gently settling his head on top of Dennis’.
“Thanks,” Dennis mumbles nasally when they’re five minutes into the movie.
Mac’s eyebrows furrow. “For what?”
“Takin’ care of me.”
Mac nods. “Course, Den.”
Yes, Dennis is annoying, really annoying actually, but he’s a lot less annoying like this.
Mac settles in for an early night and tentatively presses a kiss to Dennis’ temple.
Dennis hums, and Mac feels whole.

“ let me look at you… ““ are you okay with me touching you? ““ does that hurt? “ Professor Membrane saying one or all of these to Dib, whose been having a really bad stomachache. He actually has appendicitis. I hope a sickfic is okay!
Hey, a sickfic is always okay!
Context: this was part of a whump/injury sentence-starter ask game. I got really carried away with some asks people sent in, and it took me an absurdly long time to finish the stories.
This was fun. I don’t write enough of Membrane. Or Gaz. This was a really good writing exercise for me! Also, shoutout to my cousin who coincidentally got appendicitis while I was writing this. Thanks for the additional insight on appendicitis, I guess? Hope you feel better, Cuz.
Prompts:
“Let me look at you…”
“Are you okay with me touching you?”
“Does that hurt?”
Characters: Dib, Gaz, Professor Membrane
Relationships: Just good ole’ family dynamics. Brother and sister have each other’s backs, dad is overprotective.
Words: 1,544
“Let me look at you.”
Dib pulled the mess of blankets over his head and turned his face towards the wall. “No,” he groaned. “Just… go with Gaz.”
Membrane stood by his bedside for a moment, obviously rethinking his tactics. For all his quick wit in the more linear side of life, it somehow hadn’t managed to translate to interpersonal matters—something that was more a little problematic when handling things like this. His son hadn’t bothered to leave his bed since the night before and was presently curled into a ball and clutching his stomach. Meanwhile, Gaz was still in her room, getting ready for her high school graduation rehearsal.
“I would really feel better if you let me examine you downstairs in the home lab,” he tried again.
Dib didn’t budge. “I just have food poisoning or something. I’ll be fine.”
“But—”
“—Dad?” Gaz appeared in the doorway, donned in a creased cap and gown. “We’re going to be late.” She reached up to adjust one of many bobby pins keeping her cap in place.
“In a moment. Your brother is ill and refusing treatment.”
Dib uncovered his face slightly cast an exhausted, low-lidded stare at her. She met it briefly and pursed her lips. She turned back to their father. “So? He’s nineteen. He can handle himself. Let’s just go.”
Membrane looked ready to start arguing again. Under the pressure of his children’s expectant gazes, though, he warily trudged back to the doorway. He gave one final glance at Dib from behind his thick lab goggles before softly shutting the door.
Dib buried his face into his pillow and groaned as another sharp pang tore through his stomach. He could still hear the two of them outside his bedroom. Words here and there, especially Gaz’s higher tone, managed to permeate through the thin walls and make their way to his ears.
“—We haven’t exactly had great experiences with your medical ‘treatment,’” Gaz said deadpan.
Instantly, memories of her media-circus extravaganza as “pig girl,” when she was ten circulated through Dib’s head.
She wasn’t wrong. If anything, she was saying exactly what Dib wanted to say, but couldn’t. The last thing he needed was to be roused from bed and forced downstairs to the lab to be poked and prodded. Normal children enjoyed sick days at home with game shows and chicken soup. He and Gaz had grown up riding out malaise in a freezing basement atop exam tables, shivering away while their father took notes and attempted to create permanent cures for the uncommon cold or invent a mayonnaise that never spoiled. His intentions were good—he even went so far as to give them second-hand anxiety in his frantic concern for them. In practice, though, it was far better to just avoid even letting him know they were sick.
Dib couldn’t avoid it this time, though. The pain had come on almost immediately that morning, and he’d spent a substantial portion of the day vomiting and drifting in and out of strange, shallow slumber while cramps wracked through his abdomen. He found himself falling asleep again as his father and Gaz continued arguing in the hallway. Their voices felt farther and farther away until disappearing completely.

The crash of the slamming front door echoed throughout the house.
Almost instantaneously, Dib jerked awake in a nauseous sweat. He didn’t sit up, but simply stared wide eyed into his now-dark room as his father and sister noisily tromped through the kitchen. They must have just gotten back from the graduation rehearsal.
How long have I been asleep?
He craned his neck to glance at his clock but couldn’t see anything beyond a dim red glow across his nightstand. He was still curled in the fetal position on his side, still holding his stomach. “Uuuughhhhh.”
His dreams had been bizarre, filled with dizzying repetition and strange, anxiety-inducing plotlines that could only make sense to an unconscious mind. Just remembering them made him feel woozy again…
His queasiness coincided perfectly with another rush of sharp, stabbing pain. He uncurled just enough to lean over his bed and vomit noisily into a bucket sitting nearby for this very purpose.
Just as he finished, his father knocked at the door. “Dib?”
“Yeah?” he weakly asked the dark room.
“I’m letting you rest,” he started, somewhat begrudgingly. “But… are you okay?”
Dib paused a moment too long before answering. “Mmmhmm,” he said after a minute.
“Okay then…”
Even in his state, he could tell his father was holding back everything he could to not haul him down to the basement to run tests on him. He didn’t stop to consider this for very long, though, before drifting into a shallow sleep.

“Have you checked on your brother?” Membrane was sitting at the table the next morning, nursing a cup of tea.
Gaz ambled past him and began rifling through the refrigerator. “No. But I think he’s just trying to sleep it off. Stomach bugs suck.”
A patch of sunshine seeped through the kitchen window and landed in a patch on the ground. Membrane watched it speculatively.
“Have any of your classmates been sick with something similar?”
Gaz poked her head out of the fridge. “I don’t think so.” She shrugged and continued searching for the strawberry jam.
“Anyone at Dib’s college? Did he mention anything?”
Gaz simply shrugged again. “No? I dunno.” She plunked the jam onto the kitchen table and began messing with the coffee maker.
Membrane stood up, slowly at first, as if he was afraid Gaz would catch him and force him to sit back down. “I’m just going to go check in on him…”
He scaled the staircase, perturbed at how quiet the upper level was. He stopped outside Dib’s room and knocked.
Nothing.
He knocked again, this time a little louder.
“Uuugh…” A small, hoarse groan answered him. He took this as invitation enough and opened the door.
“Son?”
All that was visible was a very limp, very mussed lock of scythe-like hair strewn across his pillow. The rest of Dib was clearly balled up beneath the comforter.
“Are you okay?”
The mass of blankets was silent. Then, very softly, “…No.”
Membrane quickly crossed the room and uncovered the blankets.
Dib’s skin had taken on a sallow, waxy tone and he was covered in a thin sheen of sweat. Both hands were in the same place they’d been the day before, pressed against his stomach until he was gasping for air.
“How long have you been like this?!” Membrane demanded. Already, his head was swirling with a million different possibilities.
A shaky pull of breath prefaced Dib’s words. “It got worse a few hours ago. I’ve never had stomach pain like this before.”
His father reached down, then paused. “Are you okay with me touching you?”
Dib nodded, then cringed into his mattress and pressed his hands tighter into his stomach.
Membrane waited for the pain to pass then, with considerable trepidation, he tried to move Dib’s hands away from his abdomen. With the same amount of unease, the latter obliged.
The tips of two prosthetic fingers pressed into the upper left of his son’s torso. “Does that hurt?”
Dib shook his head frantically, grabbing his father’s hand and guiding it to his lower abdomen, right next to his belly button.
Membrane’s eyebrows raised over his goggles. “There? That’s where it hurts?”
He nodded, tensing up again. His stomach was bloated outwards, looking odd against what was normally a very lean build.
It would have been very easy for Membrane to burst out with his diagnosis in triumph before carting off his child to surgery. It certainly would have been a needed release for the rush of panic that had washed over him. Instead, he looked down at his now-adult son and composed himself the best he could. “Dib?”
One eye cracked open to glance up at him.
Membrane paused before speaking. “You are showing classic signs of appendicitis. It is vital you come with me.”
Dib’s eyes flew open, and he lifted his head off the pillow. He somehow managed to go even paler. “W-what?”
Membrane simply nodded. “Can you stand up?”
Filled with sudden adrenaline, Dib stumbled out of bed, still hunched over in pain. “Okay. Okay… I’ll go downstairs… I just—”
“—No,” Membrane interrupted. “Not the home lab. The hospital wing at Membrane Labs. If I am correct in my diagnosis, you’re going to need emergency surgery.”
Dib froze up, looking queasy. “And you’re sure?” he squeaked out.
“I won’t know for sure without running tests… an ultrasound… but…” he paused, knowing that each word he said was just making Dib more apprehensive about going with him. “… I am fairly confident.”
Dib shuddered and held his stomach, then stumbled forward. Membrane caught his arm and held him steady. Dib was just as tall as he was, something that was disarming to see up close. He leaned his weight against Membrane’s shoulder. For a moment, he stood there, head down and facing the carpet. Then, in a quiet voice, “Okay. I trust you. Let’s go.”

Note
humbly requesting a sickfic starter pack, for research purposes of course
(how does everyone react to being sick/others being sick, whatever you can think of <3)
Asking the easy questions, I see LOL. Sounds good why not.
Skyloft: He's very used to being sick at this point, and has 1001 ways to entertain himself (carving, weaving, doing needlework, literally anything) but probably doesn't have anything on hand so he'll be more than a little stir-crazy. He much prefers to be taking care of others, and is extremely patient even if someone's cussing him out.
Minish: Hates being sick. Ball of blankets that hisses at you for disturbing him, even if its with food. He has generally no idea how to handle other people being sick, although he'd probably cuddle if someone needed it and he trusted them enough to touch.
Kokiri: Will deny he's sick right up until he passes out. Absolute misery to take care of, will sneak out as soon as he feels well enough to try and possibly sooner. Hates taking care of others, and has zero patience for it, but would cooperate with providing distraction if asked.
Outset: Will deny he's sick right up until he passes out. This goes great with often being on a boat, yes. Misery to take care of, will sneak out as soon as he feels well enough to try. Finds it much more fun to take care of someone else and likes to be the one fussing instead, and is pretty good at providing distraction in terms of tall tales and chattering and cuddles.
Chief: Will deny he's sick, although not quite to the point of passing out. Sullen and prefers to take care of himself if he can manage it, extremely impatient. Won't sneak out, but WILL sit up for hours reading and taking notes when he shouldn't. Extremely patient taking care of others, although he's a little brusque about it and not super inclined to cuddle anyone unless he thinks they actively need it to stay put.
Ordon: Will deny he's sick, although not quite to the point of passing out. Sulks massively. Sometimes turns into a wolf just because he's so bored and wolf brain makes it suck less. (Ilia is incredibly annoyed every time he does this.) Doting caretaker who's happy to take care of everything someone needs. Has absolutely spent entire days just holding his sick kids and not putting them down because they asked him to.
Four: Will deny he's sick right up until he's passing out. Impossible to keep still, will escape the moment he can try. Would rather suffer alone than let anyone see him weak. (If one is sick, *all of them* are sick, excluding Shadow who can't get sick.) Absolute shit caretaker to anyone ~~including~~ but themselves. Impatient and more likely to tease than help, but good for entertaining someone who needs to stay put if they find him funny.
Prince: Will deny he's sick almost to the point of passing out, then prefers to recover alone. Incredibly prickly about who he allows near him, and bad-tempered about it, although he won't try to escape unless triggered. Can be a very sweet caretaker, but he's particular about who he'll offer it to and is even less likely to cuddle than usual under the circumstances (unless it's someone's he's very close to: Chief, Smith, Kokiri or his Zelda.)
Rabbit: Absolute sullen mess. Won't deny it but will still push himself to ridiculous lengths because he's impatient with recovery. Sulks massively once he admits he's sick. Decent caretaker, but also a bit impatient there and more inclined to teasing care than fluffy care.
Smith: Also a sullen mess. Will bundle herself in blankets and sulk it out,but is grudgingly happy about getting taken care of. Very much wants to cuddle, but tends to be shy about asking for it. Does not really know what to do about taking care of someone else, but would try (and mostly model it off Ravio's example when taking care of her.) Very sweet and attentive, and has a strong tendency towards worry.
Far: Extremely sensitive to when he's getting sick and tries to hide it, but he doesn't deny it. He'll dial himself back and become very quiet and take it easy and try to fend it off, and probably will be extremely uncomfortable with the group because his usual way of coping is "Hide until it passes" and he can't. Does not know how to take comfort well. *Does* know how to *give* it and is extremely doting and attentive and fusses about someone else if they seem remotely accepting.
Hateno: Will deny it until he passes out; also tends towards "Hide in a corner until it passes" and will be an absolute bitch when he can't. Hissy ball of blankets, even over food because he'll be mad he can't cook for himself. Moderately decent at taking care of someone else, will fuss and spend a LOT of time cooking for them and offering blankets; not super keen on cuddling unless he trusts someone. VERY keen on cuddling if he does.
Hope that answers it!!

You got any etiquette or tips or smth for posting one shots or drabbles? Like, when to place cuts, how to tag, CW stuff, should you divulge background info before hand, etc etc...
-den-of-whump
Hey friend! I don't know a lot about the etiquette but I'll try my best!
For starters, here's what my setup before my story looks like (had to put a readmore because it was getting long LOL)
Tumblr media
See "CONTENT"? The most important thing is to list the trigger warnings somewhere at the beginning, like kidnapping, sickfic, blood, etc. You can use tags too, but also adding the trigger warnings at the beginning before the story is also a good way, so that if your readers see something at the beginning before they read that there's something that squicks them, they could pass it up.
Speaking of tags...
Tumblr media
I reread through my stories before posting so I could tag them properly. Was a character bleeding with some descriptions of blood? Add a "blood tw", "blood", etc tag. Was the whumpee dealing with body horror with description of said body horror? "Body horror tw", "body horror", etc. There are times where you forget to add a tag and that's okay! Most of the time, people would gently let you know that you missed a tag. Also, don't censor your tags like this (b100d), since from what I heard, it doesn't protect those who filter the word and they would end up seeing it and get triggered unintentionally. That's usually looked down on due to that reason on Tumblr, and in most places.
And finally, a read more.
Tumblr media
If it's getting too long to the point you have to scroll down a bit to get to the end, definitely put a readmore there. Usually, I add it after three paragraphs as seen here. For NSFW stories, I put a readmore right before the story for safety reasons.
And background and all... it depends if you're writing with your OCs/blorbos or just a generic whumpee/whumper/caretaker! For OCs/blorbos, yeah, some background would be cool (if they're fandom characters, it's not necessary since many people would know what the characters are!) Otherwise, it's not necessary to divulge in background stuff for generic, unless it's specific, like if the whump is focused on superpowers and superheroes, some background could help too! 😀
I hope this helps! If anyone else has better etiquette on this (still unsure TBH 😅) feel free to reblog with your two cents!

DADWC Prompt List
I’ve been meaning to do this for weeks, but it tuns out making a prompt list is hard lol. So… in preparation for hopefully starting to take part in @dadrunkwriting here’s my attempt at my prompt list post.
So for starters let me just point out that I have “everything I write turns into angst or whump” disease… so don’t expect fluffy stuff from me, or smut… I have can’t seem to write smut. I am trying to get better at writing romance, but as a demi-romantic myself it seems trickier than I expected… I am up for trying to write fluff, just… don’t be surprised if it gets angsty.
Characters/ships: I am most familiar with DA2 characters, and Kirkwall as a setting to be honest, but not Sebastian… I cannot get my head around him. I am also open to Origins characters, I find Inquisition characters a bit tricker.
I am a Fenders shipper mostly… but also good with Hawke/Anders, Hawke/Fernis. Or, no ships, platonic is totally good with me with any DA2 character (bar Sabastian).
What I like to write about: I enjoy taking party banter from the games and then continuing/expanding on it, so sending me any bits of party banter you like as a starting point could be fun, I also have a slight obsession with the history of Kirkwall (Emerius) and the enigma of Kirkwall codex’s, so anything is that area could also be fun.
I seem to like writing sickfic’s  (this was a surprise to me), I also really enjoy exploring the concept of healing magic and the general “medicine” of Thedas.
I particularly like doing character studies or internal monologues, having a character essentially wrestling with X alone.
Series:
I have an ongoing (pre) Anders/Fenris series that I am accepting prompts for - Campfire Snippets
Prompt Lists:
Kirkwall Specific
Latin/Tevene phrases
Angst For Fantasy Settings
Touch Starved
Fear of Vulnerability
Hidden injury/illness
I also have a “bad things happen bingo card” that you can pick something from here
