Nothing new was announced. It is infinity week though so we've got the rest of the week! They're going to show the whole series on niconico for Reki's birthday with Hatanaka commenting on Ep 1. (They're just showing the episodes on niconico, Hatanaka will be commenting as it airs on instagram live)

Itafushi (Jujutsu Kaisen)

It's my number 1 right now, like i love them so much! Their ship is really cute and i love the contrast between them and how they work so well together as friends and more! I'm always giggling and shit when i think about them even if they're doomed by the narrative :(

Zolu (One Piece Live Action/Animanga)

I really liked their dynamic after watching the live action so i mainly ship opla! zolu, but any content of this ship is cute and catches my interest! This ship literally made me write fanfics again lol More Zolu please!

Miyusawa/Misawa (Ace of Diamond)

Miyusawa my beloved ❤️ The first time i watched this anime it had been an instant ship, their chemistry is amazing, the pitcher/catcher dynamic is chef's kiss and just the development of their relationship throughout the show was the highlight for me! I watched everything again recently and i still love this ship very much, fave fave fave :')

Renga (Sk8 the Infinity)

Sk8 was the anime of the season when it came out, the serotonin was just high with this one, especially during covid time. Reki and Langa's friendship was the cutest thing to watch and it was so genuine and then ep 7 happened and the ship just sailed really hard for me! So many cute moments while a beautiful relationship blossomed in front of our eyes!! Love!!

Kazurei (Buddy Daddies)

A new favorite from last year! The premise of the show was so engaging to me when it first came out and even though i knew Kazuki and Rei weren't going to be canon, we were still fed so well? Like Queerplatonic, same-sex parentality, friends to lovers trope??? we got everything and more, especially last episode like omg they're canon idc!!

Dreamling (The Sandman)

Fell in love with this ship instantly with just one episode and little content... the fandom got my back though, i was well fed and shipped them even harder thanks to all the fanarts and fanfics! i want season 2 right now and more of them!!

EmiSue (Dickinson TV)

Not my first wlw ship but definitely my favorite! From the first episode i knew they were soulmates and i wanted more of them together! The show gave us everything we wanted and i'm glad i got to witness it :)

Satosugu (Jujutsu Kaisen)

They're not Itafushi but they are Itafushi in some ways?? like parallels we can't ignore. It's a big ship in the fandom but i'm not as invested as many stsg shippers are, though i really like the ship, i read fanfics about them and i love their story in the first part of season 2! So much angst though...

Nobamaki (Jujutsu Kaisen)

I love them together, i think their ship is cute and has a lot of potential! I don't obssess with them enough and i should read more fanfics, but they're amazing so they stay at the top of my list!

What do you like about Marie and Jordan individually and what do you like about them as a pair?

For Marie, I just love her so much. First of all, I am always happy to see a black girl lead in any kind of diverse, non-stereotypical, non-sassy-side character role like this.

But I also appreciated how realistic she was. Like, I understood almost every choice she made. I saw people get mad at her at the start for not always doing the altruistic, "right thing", but for most people, self-preservation comes first. She didn't owe those other characters anything (especially after how they treated her) and I loved that she had a back bone and would actually talk back to people. But at her core, she is still a good person despite everything that has happened to her and still chooses not to be corrupted by Vought's influence once she understands the true material cost.

For Jordan, they're just such a nuanced character. One, I always have a soft-spot for the Lancer character archetype. The highly capable, second best, who can never quite out-do the main character (e.i. bakugo, reki (from sk8), Ron from HP (fuck jkr, but no other examples are coming to me atm)), and Jordan is just that. Like, yeah, they were kind of a bitch at the start, but it's so clear that they are secretly a softie and the world and their experiences have forced them to have a tough shell. Also, their powers as an allegory for gender identity, yes, it's on the nose (although, as someone who grew up reading 90s/2000s manga like Ranma 1/2, not that unheard of), but I think the show handled questions of their identity really well.

And finally for Limoreau...

idk where to start. tbh, as someone who has been hyper fixating on characters and ships since high school, I never really have a clear explanation of why I ship the characters I do. I either like it or I don't. But Limoreau is such a pleasant surprise because the chemistry was there from the start, but it felt like one of those queer dynamics that the writers would be too scared to pursue (think Arthur/merlin or Gojo/Geto). I think the fact that our MAIN PAIRING is a queer, interracial couple with no white people, shouldn't be as revolutionary as it is in 2023, but it is! I hope this is a positive direction for on-screen storytelling.

But also everyone loves a classic "enemies to lovers" (yes, I know they're not EtL in the true sense, but I consider Rivals-to-lovers as a subset of EtL, so I'm using it as an umbrella term). I think the reason people like EtL dynamics (Especially in het pairings) is that there is always an underlying respect beneath the "hatred". Like, to see someone as a threat, you have to see them as at least an equal.

It was clear from the start that Marie and Jordan were more alike than different and it was Vought and the corrupt nature of Godolkin pushing them to compete. They're both lonely in different ways, and I love the idea of them finding acceptance and a home with each other (Also all three actors are extremely attractive and have great chemistry, so that never hurts).

Do I wish their relationship had been paced out a bit more? Yes. But that was my issue with all of Gen V. I think the whole show would have benefitted from 12 eps, instead of 8, because development was needed in most areas.

I also just want to note, for all the people saying their relationship "came out of nowhere", I truly feel that if Marie looked like Erin Moriarty and Jordan looked like Chace Crawford, most people would have clocked the romance from the beginning, jus saying...

You know, watching episode 11 of bucchigiri, it was very difficult to see Zabu being beaten like that, poor thing. I wonder how they are going to end this story with just one episode, there are a lot of meaningless things I think I only see three alternatives. 1. an open ending with Matakara and Arajin making peace but going their separate ways (matakara) and maybe a 2nd season with arajin trying to get him to be a honki again. 2. Matakara and Arajin don't make peace and are murdered like Senya and Ichiya and they turn into geniuses and try to fight again like Senya and Ichiya. 3. For me, I most wanted Matakara's brother not to die and return and save Matakara from ruin. What worries me in the end is how they are going to make an acceptable and good ending for Matakara because he did a lot of bad things. What worries me are the consequences. sorry for the text.

Zabu getting the piss beaten out of him was definitely one of the most painful (and brutal, I'd argue) fights to watch (so far. 1 ep to go...). Though I don't really agree with the idea that this show had a lot of meaningless things (besides ep 7...), but I see where you're coming from.

I've been thinking a lot about the possible endings too, and after mulling it over a lot, here's my guess; They have a big fight reminiscent of the one Ichiya and Senya had in the past. Senya mentioned in one of the first eps how he never actually became a Honki person, but came the closest out of anyone. I think that fight might've been the final thing those two needed to really become Honki. This, however, didn't happen because of multiple reasons;

The most important bit is that Senya didn't go all out, which is what ended up pissing Ichiya off and making him hold a grudge against Senya. I think this grudge is what made Ichiya become a majin, and Senya's wish to reconcile is what made him a majin in turn (they didn't quite explain this in the show but this makes the most sense to me). Why Senya didn't go all out could have a multitude of reasons, which I'm not getting into rn because this post is already very long.

But back to the final fight. Matakara has Ichiya and Arajin has Senya, and it's been heavily implied that they're gonna get their bodies taken over, either willingly (Arajin, now determined to save Matakara) or through manipulation (Matakara, consumed by the darkness he was trying desperately to flee from). If this show continues with following the Disney version of the Aladdin tale, there must be some sort of wish-fulfilment freedom at the end for the genie(s). This fight will finally be the all out no-holds-barred brawl that Ichiya wanted, and Senya will be able to face him again so he can find out why Ichiya was so mad at him. It's also a chance for Arajin and Matakara to finally throw their frustrations out into the open, and hopefully finally see and hear each other for real. But I also think that the fight will turn them into Honki people. This would not only fulfil the promise between Ichiya and Senya, but also the one between Arajin and Matakara.

Other than that, I have no clue how they're gonna wrap up the rest, or what kind of consequences there will be at the end... or if there will even be consequences. If you've seen SK8 (anime by the same director) you might remember how a certain character was about to be in deep shit, but the power of friendship stopped him right before the damage would be irreversible. I think it'll be the same here.

Sorry if it's not exactly what you discussed, but this is the only ending I could imagine, honestly. And as for Matakara's brother, I've had this hunch that he didn't actually die, since permadeath is such a rare occurrence in these types of animes, and fakeouts are a plenty. But even if he is still alive, the show has made itself clear; it's up to Arajin to save Matakara now.

I love that ep 1 scene with the boys and Kaoru too! I agree that Kaoru was studying them like the nerd he is, but I also think he may have saw a bit of himself in Langa at that moment cause of what happened when he first met Adam.

Like he saw Langa's awed face and was thinking, "Yeah, I know that look, doesn't lead to anything but heartbreak."

That frame is one of my favourite shots. It belongs right in a “Sk8 No Context” video. In fact, that’s probably why it was included.

I see it as caution, and instead of seeing himself in Langa, he sees Adam*. There’s the “Blue Theory” that I’m yet to write out I full, only backed up by that after-credits scene with Kaoru/Kojiro in episode nine. And while what Kojiro and Kaoru say about the matter contradicts what I just said, perhaps Kaoru’s stance on Kojiro “overestimating Langa” wasn’t that to begin with.

*I can quite unfortunately see a whump fic somewhere about Reki breaking up with Langa, or something, and pushing him into becoming the “next Adam”, either alongside Adam himself or against Adam’s desires (now that he’s all “reformed” or whatever… spoiler alert: he really isn’t), though given the circumstances of such a fic being created I can imagine it’s alongside Adam. (Eve goes a bit crazy, for real.) It’s shipping. I don’t want to find out if such a fic exists unless the ship, if included at all, is depicted negatively and as a “grave mistake”, or something. So, I’m not looking.

I see it, with episode nine in correlation. Kaoru is studying Langa, and Reki, and seeing himself, Kojiro and Adam from when they were kids (with a few differences, of course). Reki in this situation is Kojiro and Kaoru, and Langa is Adam. Makes sense, right?

Well, there’s a few shifts that I think Kaoru has studied (as the “smart one” of the group, I’m sure) Langa and Reki as to assure his suspicions of the similarities, or a lack thereof.

In fact, when I’d first seen this ask a few days ago, I’d gotten the idea to make a Venn diagram of all the similarities I could remember without rewatching the show:

Incidentally, Langa’s exclusive qualities are also connected to Adam — but he’s not included here, for obvious reasons.

The immediate parallels in terms of “Renga vs. Matchablossom” would be Reki/Joe and Langa/Cherry. Though, outside of ship dynamics (I’d so badly wanted to put “bisexual” and “gay” in the diagram, but withheld my compulsions — though, I did allow myself the “Lovestruck Stare”, as that’s canon compliant enough, with Kojiro giving several to Cherry and Langa to Reki, breaking the “obvious parallels” immediately, giving Langa and Joe more leverage as counterparts over Langa and Cherry) the parallels, as I’d just mentioned in parentheses, are more complex.

TL;DR: I really need to write my Blue Theory out in full, but here is the “character parallels” in the main cast (which doesn’t play into the Adam/Langa parallels as much as the Blue Theory does, with some Cherry on the side, and maybe some Tadashi/Reki parallels to compare with how they nurtured their own foils with Adam/Langa respectively).

so this is assuming sk8 the infinity takes place in the time of its release of 2021.

in 02, we see tai be a really good mentor to the new batch of digidestined. literally Dad Friend Mode. Now that he would be older, he would try to be a good mentor to the areas in Japan that may not have a strong digidestined force.

reki is just Stressed. with S and being a Chosen Child (and oh man thats a big deal) being secrets he keeps to himself, he doesnt know how to juggle it.

tai says its not easy, obviously, but as long as you keep your inner child then you'll be with your partners as long as you live.

Comparing MatchaBlossom and the song Can't Take My Eyes Off You by Boys Town Gang

So gonna start this off by saying I've listened to this song for the past 45 minutes give or take, and have watched sk8 about 19 times all the way through so I have absolute authority when it comes to this (in other words: this is mostly fanon interpretation based on the idea that Joe and Cherry are in a romantic relationship in the current timeline)

Intro

We start the song with an iconic instrumental of piano and strings (keep those instruments in mind, they play a role later), that is led into a funky beat with drums and keyboard and bass. Throughout the song you hear the piano and strings as the base for the entire song. Now I'm choosing to interpret this as Joe (piano) and Cherry (strings) meeting and forming a friend group when they were young children.

Lyrics

The lyrics don't start until 1:28, so before this is what I'm calling the Before-Adam-Era (BAE) which is a time where Joe and Cherry don't have to hide behind metaphors and vague ideas and can just be open about themselves. But when the lyrics kick in, there's a distinct lack of strings at first, only piano playing over the words "You're just to good to be true, can't take my eyes off you..." etc, this is Joe speaking to himself about Cherry, realizing his romantic feelings about him.

In the next part we hear the strings come in, significantly louder than the piano, though the piano is still audible. This is when Cherry starts to fall for Adam, he's voicing his feelings for Adam to Adam, while Joe pines in the background. There are direct parallels between the lyrics and Cherry's actual thoughts of Adam during this time in the show.

Bridge

Next comes the iconic bridge that has no piano or stings. So what does that mean? I think that this part of the song switches away from matchablossom and instead focuses on Adam's obsession with finding his Eve and completely ruining his relationship with Cherry and Joe and fucking off to America.

Second Verse + Second Bridge

This verse starts out heavy on the strings, but very minimal and soft piano, which is the years that Joe spends in Italy while Cherry finally realizes his feelings for Joe. And when Joe returns from Italy, Cherry is finally ready to tell Joe about them, which he does during the second bridge which has a beautiful build up of strings until they're playing high and mighty which leads into a instrumental break that includes both piano and strings. This showcases their building relationship, though the piano is slightly more hesitant than the stings, it gets more confidence as they play together with the rest of the band.

Once the beginning of the instrumental fades into the bridge again (this time with no lyrics to accompany it) Joe and Cherry are well into something that toes the line between romantic and platonic, but when the bridge hits, that's the beginning of the show, and there's more of a focus on the strings from around 5:20-6:09 when there's yet another bridge (!) this time with lyrics again. The times that I pointed out though are significant because they represent the inner turmoil that Cherry was going through with the return of Adam and, subsequently, the grudge he held against him. The time after the strings cut out but before the lyrics come in is when Cherry is hit with Adam's skateboard and is hospitalized. But the lyrics then kick in with the same soft strings as the last lyric'd bridge, showcasing Cherry admitting that he wants to be with Joe.

Outro

The next thing you hear when the lyrics stop is the same "duet" between the piano and the strings, both of them strong and confident in their feelings and the relationship. Soon the other instruments fade and you're left with just the strings and piano playing alone together. But there's still so much passion in the playing and the way they sound together. And then you get just the piano playing for a second, which is like the scene at the end of episode 9 where Joe tells Cherry they're not alone because they have each other. And then there's a drum fill that leads us back into the grand and funky music that has been playing for most of the song before it fades out entirely.

All in all, I think this song perfectly sums up matchablossom's relationship with one another and their feelings (in fanon) thank you.

Not being allowed in because the family rule or sanitation bullshit; Kaoru hauled into surgery.

Seeing Kaoru tied up to a bed like he was already fucking dead.

The pit in Kojiro’s own stomach and that feeling like he’d sunk to the bottom of the sea in a poorly maintained submarine.

And the possibly worst—but that would require ranking all the shit-ness—Kaoru didn’t have family. Not any that would care enough. That was why the two were so close, why the Nanjos considered Kaoru one of them to begin with.

“Are you family?” Some new person asked.

Kojiro shot to his feet, pleading with a cracked voice, “I’m his partner!”
