Imagine an AU where Talia runs a boarding school for struggling children—orphans, delinquents, kids who have been through trauma and haven’t recovered, supernatural or human. It’s called Hale House, but the teens who are sent there often call it Hell House.

The Sheriff enrols Stiles, knowing that he has struggled with his mother’s death and his father’s alcoholism, but Stiles thinks his father is sending him away because he’s trouble.

But when he gets there, he meets a guy who’s reclusive and broody. There are whispers about him: the dean’s son, the murderer. Derek Hale.

Stiles doesn’t believe it for a second; if Derek had murdered someone, the Sheriff would have been involved and Stiles would have found out about it one way or another. But there’s something about Derek that draws Stiles to him.

Stiles ends up using Derek as a bodyguard which is probably not what you’re meant to do with a rival family’s son, but Stiles is making this up as he goes. And despite him being a mobster, he still has some dignity left.

Roscoe is nearly twice Stiles’ age, okay? She’s an old lady, and she requires a fair amount of upkeep. Beauty sleep just doesn’t cut it anymore once your undercarriage starts literally falling out of your chassis. And, unfortunately, a lady like Roscoe cannot be prevailed upon to pay for her own replacement parts, and not just because she’s practically retirement age. She’s also just, you know, a car.

That job falls to Stiles. Or, to be more accurate, multiple jobs.

So many jobs.

First, it was just helping his dad out with some busywork at the station for an advance on his allowance. Then, he took on some tutoring at school, which didn’t work out particularly well—Stiles’ temperament does not lend itself to teaching—and he pivoted to editing essays instead. High schoolers don’t pay as well for that as college students, so he put up flyers on the BHCC notice boards too. And, of course, his neighborhood is full of retirees with lawns that are always in need of mowing and roofs in need of leaf blowing.

If Roscoe were just a few years more youthful, that might be enough. With a very generous application of duct tape, Stiles has made it be enough for the last four years. But now, as Roscoe approaches her thirty-fifth birthday, his wallet is hemorrhaging funds faster than his odd jobs can replace them.

In desperation, Stiles turns to the dreaded wasteland that is craigslist for something a little more lucrative. What he finds might very well be the thinly veiled invitation of a serial killer, but beggars can’t be choosers. Besides, the house he's meant to be cleaning is huge and expensive and impressive enough that it might actually be worth dying just for the privilege of being allowed to set foot inside it.

And then, there's the owner.

Derek Hale.

Human beings aren't meant to be as attractive as Derek Hale, much less that attractive and filthy fucking rich to boot. Where is the fairness? Where is the pity for poor Stiles and his libido? Even with a paycheck like the one the ad promised, he can't afford to pay for Roscoe's replacement parts and the amount of lube that will be required to get him through this gig. He hasn't jerked off this much since sophomore year of high school, but one glimpse of Derek Hale's muscly forearms and he was off to the fucking races.

He tries not to be obvious about it. Drooling all over your employer is, he's been told, unprofessional. And Derek himself has been nothing but courteous and to the point. He's surprisingly soft spoken, in comparison to his stature. He always has a quirk to his mouth that makes him look like he's laughing on the inside. But he gives Stiles instructions on what in the house needs scrubbing and sweeping and vacuuming and organizing every Tuesday afternoon without letting on what the joke is.

Currently, Stiles is in charge of moving a bunch of patio furniture from the indoor pool area—an indoor fucking pool, the audacity of rich people—to the shed out back. There's a weird amount of it. Who needs more than, like, two lounge chairs? Apparently, the Hales do, which Stiles supposes makes sense. Most of the family is out of town, on vacation in Vail of all stereotypical rich people places, but there's at least thirteen people that technically live here. If all of them were to want to swim at once, then they could maybe put all this shit to good use.

As he heaves a third round glass table across the sizable back yard, Stiles wishes this ad had been put up in some month other than August. It's so fucking hot that Stiles had issued an executive override of his insecurity and dragged his shirt off half an hour ago. Even bare-chested, he's dripping sweat and trying not to resent Derek, who could undoubtedly throw this furniture around himself way easier than Stiles can. Stupid fucker with his muscles and his money.

And lemonade, apparently. Stiles makes it back to the greenhouse-esque pool area to find Derek with a pitcher of it in one hand and a glass already poured in the other. Stiles ignores pleasantries in favor of immediately drowning himself in cold, sugary goodness. In his haste, he makes a little bit of a mess, but he honestly couldn't care less. The icy trickle of it feels fantastic.

What feels better, though, is returning to full consciousness just in time to notice that Derek is watching the drip trace its way down Stiles' chest. Suddenly, Stiles' flush isn't entirely because of the August heat.

"So, uh," Stiles starts, rattling the glass left in the bottom of his glass. Derek's eyes snap back up to his. He looks understandably surprised; neither of them has tried to make small talk before. "Why aren't you in Vale with the rest of the Hale clan?"

"Not a big fan of snow," Derek says. His fingers tighten on the handle of the pitcher he still holds. "I like it hot."

Stiles' eyebrows rise of their own volition.

“The weather," Derek tacks on, helpfully. "I like...I like hot weather."

If it was unprofessional for Stiles to drool over his employer, it’s probably even more so for his employer to drool back. Under the circumstances, though, Stiles isn’t exactly going to call HR about it. Has Derek been looking at him like this the whole time? He hung around a few times, to supervise things, but so far he’s mostly stayed out of the way. Maybe Stiles had been so busy keeping his eyes to himself that he missed the eyes on him.

Eyes that are currently stuck somewhere in the vicinity of his exposed, probably sweat-glistening clavicle.

Slowly, Stiles steps forward, reaching around Derek to set his empty glass on the one remaining patio table. Derek does not move out of the way. The motion brings them very close together. For a long moment, they just stay right there, breathing the same hot, chlorine-scented air until Stiles feels like he might explode. He pulls back just enough to scan Derek’s face for any kind of protest or hesitation.

It’s a good thing this is a low-key, off the books kind of business arrangement, because what happens next would horrify any decent HR department. It’s quick and dirty and hot hot hot with the sun beating down on Stiles’ bare back, and it ranks as one of the best sexual encounters of Stiles’ entire life. He and Derek end up flopped out on the concrete by the pool’s edge, panting and eminently satisfied. It takes several minutes, during which his mind and his eyes wander, for Stiles to muster up the brainpower required for coherent speech.

“Did you buy extra patio furniture just so you could see me all sweaty?”

Derek turns his head inquiringly in his direction, still too post-coitally dazed to understand the question. Stiles helpfully points up at the sales sticker still stuck to the underside of the table. Derek doesn’t even bother looking contrite. He just grins lazily and says, “They were on sale.”

Stiles decides then and there that Roscoe’s replacement parts can wait a few more weeks. The lube takes precedence.

A Sterek AU partly inspired by the Netflix series Young Royals:

Derek is a prince that was sent to a boarding school after being involved in a scandal (could be a scandal involving the Argents). He meets Stiles there and falls in love. Stiles goes there on a scholarship. Lydia (or Paige) is a family friend who goes to the same school and Derek pretends to have a relationship with her while he sorts out his feelings for Stiles. They eventually remain friends when Derek gets together with Stiles. Scott and the others could be students at the school. Laura, who is next in line for the throne, is fully supportive of Derek and Stiles.

derek as willhiem, stiles as simon, allison as sara, laura as erik, lydia as felice, and jackson as august. basically prince derek is forced to go to a boarding school after the scandal of his illicit relationship with his governess kate argent is revealed. it’s the same school crown princess laura went to, and she’s incredibly excited to share this piece of her life with her little brother. unfortunately, derek is much less excited, but only until he spots stiles. stiles, a relatively poor non-resident student of the school who doesn’t give a shit that derek’s a prince. it’s more enemies to lovers than young royals is, with stiles genuinely hating the monarchy and giving derek shit constantly, and derek giving it right back bc he doesn’t fully understand why he’s so entranced by this mouthy kid a year younger than him who’s made it more than obvious he hates everything derek is and stands for. he understands even less why the kids obvious crush on lydia martian makes him so angry at her. but i think they get paired together for a class project (stiles is a smart cookie so he’s in an upper level class with derek) and through the forced time together they fall in love

The actual idea I was thinking about I also got wrong, only Stiles is a professor LOL. Derek is a single dad (sort of? I tweaked ages a bit so he’s Cora’s guardian but like, Derek is 26, Stiles is 23 and Cora is 15 so that’s a thing). But yeah, it was just an idea I had because I wanted Charms Professor Stiles super smitten with the angry, broody Werewolf ‘dad’ of one of his best students. It was less elaborate than I thought, I think I mixed up the two different HP fics I had (while thoroughly forgetting all about the second one somehow???) which basically is story of my life because my memory is ATROCIOUS. 

Though reading the HP idea of single ‘dad’ Derek, my British came out because some of the things I wrote in the idea are so British... Ahahaha |D

Stiles nurses this simmering rage that some interloper is bogarting his grandmother. Summary: Stiles never wanted to go to a school for crazy people, but with his history with self-harm and worsening anxiety, his dad thought it was the place he needed to be. But when the management is at threat, the pupils decide that they deserve some time away, and the camp of the ages was born. What happens when a group of not so well teens decide they want to rebel for one final hurrah?Because when sparks fly in a pit of flames, it can be hard to see past the manic of The Rosedale Academy For Struggling Youth.

Other comments: This is my second longest fic after Only He Saw, and is currently unfinished. Will I finish it? Unknown, but likely not. I got really into the AU Boarding School trope, and this was the result, but then I ran out of inspiration, which is sad because I had a whole storyline planned out. If it ever comes back, I’ll be sure to continue writing it!

I love doing them, and I’ve been doing both the Sterek and Steter secret santas for three years now. It’s a fluff-fest, that’s all!

Summary:  When the pack stopped telling him about meetings, Stiles laughed. It wasn't surprising that they forgot to update his number when their phones kept getting destroyed by the monster of the week...right? They just forgot. That happened. All the time! Too often. When the pack stopped giving excuses for forgetting, a deserving prickle of fear and trepidation etched its way into his heart, making his usually cocky and brave smile falter and leave. Only when they weren't watching. When they went out of their way to stop him going to meetings, he stopped smiling altogether. Only where they couldn't see. But it's fine, right? He was part of a family that loved him and just wanted to keep him safe...right? But when Derek used the door instead of the window to get into Stile's house, as small and insignificant a fact that may be, he accepted that something was wrong.

Other comments: This was the first fic I ever wrote, and you can tell! I wrote this story over a long time, but for the majority of it, I’d upload 1000 word chapters every day, which really helped my writing develop. I was in a super dark place when I wrote this, and I think you can tell, but I keep it up because it shows how far my writing’s come. I’m proud of how far I’ve come since OHS!

yes i wrote that that! it’s kind of a bunch of rough sketches and also a wip, and i don’t know when i can update it. i’m going to try my best to update and finish all my wip’s this year, but this is one of those that i haven’t decided whether i want to put on ao3 as complete or do chapter by chapter.
