This is a dilemma for me. I have loved doing this blog and going out to look for pictures and interesting things to bring here has given me motivation and meaning through years of struggle with depression and several kinds of grief. Going out to look for pictures has put me in situations where I have seen incredible beauty, much of which I never really managed to capture. Also, the many warm and kind messages I've received from people all over the world have given me heart and made me feel less meaningless as a person and more connected. Sometimes I've been criticized for buying the checkmarks and giving money to Tumblr but I wanted to do what I could because Tumblr has been my one happy and safe place online. But now this. To me AI in relation to creativity is just a way for well-to-do but untalented people, the proverbial tech bros, to profit from other people's hard work and creativity. It has no redeeming value in relation to creativity and is actively harmful to artists of all kinds. <trying to figure out how to put a read more link here> I don't even count myself among the real creatives, artists and writers and others who have worked hard and put years into honing their crafts, into learning to translate their hearts and unique spirits into their creative expression. I just see beautiful things and take pictures of them. But it would still make me sick to see AI works based on my pictures, on these times and places that have meant so much to me. Recently I saw a set of cat 'photos' on here that everyone was reblogging and exclaiming over but that to me seemed to just be AI art that was more convincing than most. As time goes on more and more output of AI is going to be almost indistinguishable from real works and unscrupulous people will pass them off as real, getting credit for what was actually created by others. Whether they profit from them becomes almost irrelevant at that point because what's worse is that we will have less and less sense of what is real. And as some have pointed out AI will now also be scraping from AI, muddying the waters further from here on in. This is an apocalypse of sorts, an apocalypse of creativity, ultimately likely to kill the joy of artistic endeavor for many who would otherwise produced brilliant, beautiful, funny, and/or shockingly original things. I'm still parsing and dissecting my thoughts and feelings about what Tumblr has done and how to react. Staying and leaving my blog up feels like consent. I am not confident in the integrity of anyone connected with scraping sites for AI. I'm not convinced that a little toggle in settings is going to make much of a difference in the long run. On the other hand I like posting here and I have received enough messages over the years to know that my blog is a positive influence on some lives. I was looking forward to May and June and posting pictures of the incredible beauty of eastern Pennsylvania in those months. And I was planning on making a side blog for posting some poetry I've been working on. It will break my heart to leave.

I haven't decided yet. Believe it or not this whole thing has given me awful physical symptoms. I'll let you know when I decide. Thank you again for your kind and lovely note!

I call this Five's WTF face, and it's the same one I had this morning when someone sent me an ASK, not specifying one particular post I have done, with one word that said, "AI." See below if you want to see how I made this. (not AI 😉)

Disclaimer: I am not a professional artist. My background is in painting, and I started sketching people a little over a year ago, and I have a post on A03 (Link to that) to show my progression with that to this based on the lovey character of Five.

I just do this for fun and I haven't found my style yet, other than I like to try everything. I use Procreate digital drawing app, not AI for my art or the stories I post.

I have done things for other people on occasion that use a photo filter-like to dress up a pic for them or for a cover or something, but that's about as AI as I get.

I totally understand the AI question because it's out there everywhere, so I figured since I got 'asked,' I'd show how I do things this time.

This one above was done with a painting style, but the process is very similar for the more cartoonish/anime or sketch/line art I have done.

Here is the picture I looked at. (I always use a picture or several pictures or models as reference.)

This next one is my step one, which is getting the main lines right, and in this case, not much detail because it's for a painting. For this, I like to use the studio pen tool. (Looks very bad at this point. Sorry, Five. 😆)

This next one is the start of me adding colors and messing around with where shadows and highlights will be, but very little blending yet, and I am only using the basic 'soft brush' tool and smudger.

For the next step, I just keep going, adding more color and try to get things looking closer to the actual photo, but I also start using the wet acrylic brush and the dry acrylic brush-nothing fancy.

After that, it's what we get at the top of my post, with simply finishing it by adding more and more paint until I get it dark enough in the darkest spots and then I get to play with lighter colors on top again. I also go back and use my studio pen to darken areas and correct the sharper lines that got painted over.

~So that's it. If anyone ever wants to know how I do something, never hesitate to ask; I am an open book.

Azriel was lounging on the couch in Cassian’s apartment regretting every decision that led him to this moment. Because just a few minutes ago, he accidentally let slip that he downloaded The Cauldron, a dating app, a month ago and his brother and Mor had not stopped pestering him about it since the words passed through his slightly buzzed lips.

“Come on, Az,” Mor whined, hanging over his shoulder and shooting him those puppy-dog eyes he had trouble resisting. “Open it up. Let’s see who you’re chatting with.”

That’s where the problem lay. Azriel wasn’t chatting with anyone because he never actually swiped right on anybody. It wasn’t that he didn’t find anyone particularly attractive—there were plenty of pretty girls on the app—it was just that he wanted something more than a physical relationship. He was thirty now; had a good career and his own place, made good money, and was freely able to spend it on anything without worrying about paying his bills. His life was in a good spot.

But he never really dated. Yes, he got women and fucked them well, Az wasn’t self-conscious enough to not know he was an attractive man, but those one-night stands just weren’t cutting it for him anymore. He wanted a genuine connection with someone; somebody he could build a relationship with.

Like what Rhys had found in his new girlfriend, Feyre. He’d met her once or twice, but it was obvious his brother was completely in love with the woman. Head over heels kind of in love. He was happy for him, truly. But sometimes, when he listened to his brother speak about the light of his life, he got this envious feeling inside; because he wanted that too.

He supposed that this dating app in general was probably not the best place to find that, but he was at a loss on where to find women that were looking for more than riding dick. Az sighed, running a brutally scarred hand through his dark hair, the strands flopping onto his forehead. “I’m not chatting with anyone,” he admitted, taking another swig of his beer.

So, I've had an unplanned expense come up that is way out of my budget and I am needing to find ways to come up with a few hundred dollars in a short amount of time, so I've decided to open up for commissions for a couple of weeks. Whatever I'm able to bring in will help toward being able to get my rent paid and keep food on the table while I navigate through this.

Pricing: I'm only looking to charge $3 (the kofi default) per commission since these will be simple edits.

What I'll Do*: I don't have a lot of time to make things super fancy but I will do- • Headers • Sidebars • Up to 10 icons • Gifs/gifsets • Simple graphic edits *keep in mind that giffing is my strength more than making standard graphics.

You can go to my kofi page to request a commission. Make sure to let me know who you are on tumblr so I can ask questions and/or let you know when your commission is complete.

Be as detailed as possible with what you want (especially if you need an image in a certain size/dimension). If what you want isn't necessarily a specific thing - that's also fine! It'll be first come first serve, so keep that in mind while you wait for your commission to be completed.

WAAAHH anon you're so sweet!! First and foremost GRABS YOU you should absolutely post your Riza art! Everyone should post Riza art forever because I'm starving and slurp it up. But you should ALSO post it because it's fun to create and share with people! No one is going to boo you off of the platform, and frankly if anyone tries to they probably need to take a long walk in nature and say hi to some people they pass on the street.

As far as advice, the biggest thing is to try to avoid the "# notes = success/good quality" thinking. It's totally natural to want feedback, and Internet Validation Numbers is encouraging! But if you post something and it doesn't immediately get attention, don't beat yourself up about the quality of your work. Some of my favorite pieces (drawings and writing) are "flops", but I try not to let that discourage me or sour how I feel about them. Sometimes it's just bad luck with timing; or good luck, oppositely

Okay now for more technical advice:

Schedule your posts on tumblr. I usually schedule my art to post at 7:30pm EST kind of arbitrarily, it feels like a good compromise of time zones. Please do know that you might flashbang yourself with your art every time (I do lmfao)

Reblog your work again the next day; mix up your timing and don't be afraid to do a few self-reblogs.

Tag your posts thoughtfully but not excessively, afaik only the first 5 tags are will be where it shows up (EDIT: apparently I'm thinking of 2014 tumblr and it's now the first 30 tags! But I would also posit you absolutely will never fucking need 30 tags. Over tagging will not help, so only tag what's relevant). Series name and acronyms, character name(s), and ship name are good. Also include a tag that you put on all your art so you and others can find it easily!

Comedy usually has more reach. People love silly memes and shitposts and frankly who can blame them! That's not to say serious posts don't also get attention, but just something I noticed

HAVE FUN!!!! this sounds so patronizing, but honestly it's best to do things that appeal to you and have fun with likeminded people. Your passion and enjoyment with telegraph through your work and it will make people smile!!!

I also just want to say that a lot of other Rizalikers are super friendly!!! It can be intimidating to talk to people, but we're all just freaks on the internet rotating a fictional character in our heads. The best way to get to know people is just to reach out and comment on their art/writing/silly posts. It doesn't need to be anything crazy! You can also join fandom discord servers to talk to them on a more casual (and frankly easier) platform, with less pressure because it's less 1-on-1. If you want to DM them (discord or tumblr) def go for it, but I would recommend against just saying "hi!" and then not following it up with anything else, because then I just go "hi!" and then I don't know how to push the conversation forward lol

Hello ! I was wondering if you had any YouTube creators you would recommend? I have really woken up and gotten into radical feminism recently and am finding it hard to find good trans critical videos that aren’t from right wing nuts 🙄 thank you for the help and your blog is amazing 💕

Hi, and thank you (sometimes I forget to say thank you when people tell me they love my blog).

Unfortunately, I do not really follow many YouTubers who are explicitly radical feminists/gender critical. My best suggestions is:

Sapphic Underground is a lesbian who reviews f/f media. She has a side podcast called Sapphic Talks that is explicity gender critical, but her main channel is fairly light-hearted.

Other than that, I don't have any recommendations. I'm of the same opinion that the YouTube radical feminist content is overrun with conservatives who believe there are two genders because God said so and also women should stay in the kitchen, left-wing YouTubers who read off tweets and Reddit posts to dunk on "TERFs", and self-styled political commentators like Shaun, Contrapoints, and Jesse Gender.

If you've just discovered radical feminism, it's a good chance to also center women and women's art, voices, and perspectives in your life. So apologies to soapbox for a minute and recommend some of my favorite female YouTubers (who are not radical feminists, I just like them and want to share them. I also got too lazy to link everyone, so sorry about that!):

Laura Kampf is a German lesbian who does all kinds of house renovation and building projects. Her 120-year old house restoration series is my reality television.

Okay okay okay look. What you do is both really fun and super good looking. No way i'm not going to be excited about it. There is something in the way you draw Vessel (and the rest but expecially Ves) that is just.. at least in my eyes just so perfectly captures his energy. And i love the style you have a lot. Also your humour. And all of it combined is just something special. And it's never not going to be immensley lovely in my eyes. So please never stop sharing your creations! 🙏🏻🫶🏻

BUT please NEVER ever for a second think that i'm cool. I'm the one who started to draw Tiny Token because i was too anxious to say happy birthday to someone after all. Half the time i feel too awkward to talk to people even when i have talked with them before. I could not be further from being cool, trust me on that one.

And on the note of "the group" it's an open one btw and you are part of it as well. The fellowship of Sleep welcomes all into the ranks. I don't want to speak in the stead of the others but in general we are just an awkward excited bunch of people who love seeing all the things in the fandom. And basically consider everyone around this ever growing ST community on tumblr to be a part of the friendgroup, regardless of the amount of interactions we had. Which obviously includes you as well; we are just too shy to engage more half the time. The bane of being terrified of being even mildly annoying.

And you can't really stalk much for it, i don't think i made a post yet on which dates i'll be at, because there is still some calculations to do, especially with the two new dates. But i will be at at least a couple of the UK shows in november (so if anyone is going and want's to see my stupid ass and we yet to have discussed it, please feel free to hit me up and we'll coordinate a meetup somehow).

And please by all means ramble on as long as you want to about anything and everything because it is good for your soul. Also I don't know why but for some reason this photo has such a funny energy. It makes me smile so hard, so thank you for sharing! 💖
