Now that I mentioned it, I can’t stop thinking about how Jack’s murder literally had nothing to do with Tim at all, and yet Tim is the one who suffered the most, who lost, who grieved. I know I poke fun at RR 2009 and how Tim is a BAMF in that comic, but it makes SO MUCH sense why he’s like peak paranoid and control freak in that comic, constantly looking at every single angle and corner of an issue. It’s not just a learned method from Bruce, it’s also the result of losing so many people dear to him in ways that were infinitely out of his control. There was no way he could’ve prevented Jack’s death. Or Kon’s. But there was a minuscule chance of bringing Bruce back, and he grabbed onto it, and held it tightly.

I think I just figured out where woobified Tim Drake came from.
Any Tim and Jason bonding fic- mainly Tim joins the batfam early fics.
bc, here's the thing. I think these writers know that Jason wouldn't like Tim if he was just a normal rich kid. In fact Jason "I have a massive inferiority complex but refuse to show it" Todd would probably be so jealous of Tim, even if we are talking about his Robin Days because Jason would see it as Tim trying to take Jason's place.
so, what to these writers do to make Jason like Tim more? They make Tim more timid, and dial Tim's neglect to 1000% so that Jason sympathizes with this kid who's no longer recognizable from his original canon counterpart.
If anything, Jason would become brothers with a Snarky Tim faster than a Timid Tim because they'd be spitting insults at each other, and Bruce tries to stop them from fighting and Tim's like "Woah, Mr. Dresses up as A Furry and punches people instead of going to therapy, I don't think you get a say in how we fight with each other."
And that would be the moment Jason knew he had a brother for life. Lmao.

i need fandom to stop acting like batfam members who have not even met each other before a certain incident would have the same interactions and perceptions of the incident as siblings who were raised together just b/c they were adopted by the same guy... or that batfam members who barely interact with each other on panel would have the same dynamic... like please let them be complicated

tim-liker here! :3 thank u for responding, i think i get ur point. i also am not partial to ppl treating him like he won the suffering olympics or smth bc everyone in that family suffered -- just in different ways. he did suffer a lot of losses all at once, but i think the point of his character is his tenacity to stick to the lifestyle -- arguably to his own detriment bc the things he did to cope...he tightropes the morally grey area like no one's business n tbh that's what makes me drawn to him. i guess nothing i say can make u like him but maybe i can try giving a new perspective...? i'm aware that some of his stans -- with good intentions or otherwise -- tend to blame bruce (who was depressed n mourning) for tim's hardships when he was robin, but i personally see him as the robin who was most fitting to work w/ bruce even when bruce was in that mental state, bc tim is the one most similar to bruce in the "headstrong, mission-driven, self-isolating" kind of way. welp idk if all that makes sense?🥲 but maybe what i'm rly getting to is i rly love ur bruce/batfam/(and bruharvey!!❤️💕) hcs so it's kind of sad that sometimes tim gets sidelined bc some of the takes on his character are...like that. anyways thank u again for replying!! sorry for rambling in ur inbox lol
That's more than understandable! I would love for Tim to be given the complexity he deserves, because you're right, I do think his moral ambiguity can be interesting. As long as it really IS ambiguous and fluctuates.
Moral ambiguity goes only as far as the person writing it and their own angle on morality in general, I think.
My definition of it is a person who understands the stakes, the sacrifices, the bad side effects, and how their decision impacts people around them. Because the grey part has to BE grey. Otherwise youre just writing a self aware asshole.
You don't have to be the hero, but you don't need to be a villain.
Tim, for me, is incredibly self-aware. He knows what's wrong with him just as well as he knows what's wrong with everyone else.
He's a perfectionist and he's self critical and he's goal driven to the point where people get hurt because of his emotional detachment and inability to comprehend that his decision have long term consequences.
But I don't think that's a red mark on HIM, because hey, everyone in the batfamily is like that. The fandom's problem is not understanding that there's no black sheep in a wolf pack.

"How dare you take the Robin role away from me and give it to Damian instead!? Yes, I know I'm currently wearing the Robin costume and have been acting as Gotham's Robin instead of Damian since 2016 now as well as having a Robin solo that replaced his Robin solo, but who cares! I will continue crying about something that happened 15 year ago that you literally had nothing to do with!!"

What are some canon reasons you don’t like Tim drake?
Now what are some fanon takes that made you dislike him?
I don't hate Tim Drake, his fan presence is just so off putting that it drives me away. I don't hate any of the batfam members actually.
If I hated Tim Drake I probably wouldn't write him in any of my fics. But His Fan base makes him unbearable to read in fanon
