Saw someone praising the little gems of Vash-whump in Ao3′s Trigun Stampede section, while complaining that they have to sift through a lot of the stuff they aren’t into to get there.  I relate.   Didn’t reblog / reply to them specifically because I thought that I would be seen as weird.  It’s just, I’ve realized that I have very specific tastes* in this fandom.  I have officially written my first Stampede-based fic:  A story about Rem being a good mom.  I have A SHITTON of old Trigun fic from my fandom years ago that I am thinking of going over, editing where necessary and posting.  Most of them aren’t the kind of “usual fandom-pleasers,” either, but kind of specific things.  Like, there’s this one I wrote about an OC who sees Vash as a hero and sets out to live by Vash’s ideals only to find out that he can’t... I wrote that for an erstwhile friend.  Was NOT a “Reader x” or a self-insert, was just a random guy.  I have...ghost stories, including an alternate manga-ending.  I have a hard horror involving Midvalley doing something truly horrific with his murder-music.  One of my early ‘98 anime specific stories involved “Knives wins, but ends up killing Vash in the process, regrets it, decides to travel across the lonely planet to bury him next to his friends.”   I wonder which of my old fics the new fandom would like to see...  In any case.... as I’ve said before... sometimes when a ship is really popular in a fandom, I’ll tune it out like background-noise.  I even do this with ships I like.  I mean... in my other fandoms, I’ve written a bit of catradora and zelink, but most of the time I’m like “boring,” and pass up others’ fics because they’re dominating.  And then with, well, I’ve never vibed with vashwood.  I’ve always seen them as a brotp, not an otp.  Plantcest is too...rapey...for me (and when people transform it to make it consensual, it weirds me out. I won’t bother you, just not my thing).  I’m honestly wondering where doublewood / wolffang is at, I haven’t seen it, I thought I would by now... the “Reader / Vash” stuff is kind of cute, but I’m not huge into indulgent self-inserts, they never feel true enough to the world for me.   I feel like entering this fandom again I’m going to be kind of lonely in my fanfiction-tastes.   *Not like I haven’t been before... I mean, over in She-Ra fandom, I wrote a bunch of stories about a couple of Horde-clones (members of the random mook-race that shows up at the end of the series) and instead of writing them being adorable and being doctors and cooks like everybody else who wrote this stuff did, my OCs were undertakers.  Fire Emblem: Awakening fandom, of which I was briefly a part?  I was passionate about the rarepair of Lissa x Libra because I’d set it up in one of my games...  I wrote an extensive Super Smash Bros. / Hunger Games crossover UNIVERSE once.  I wrote a huge-ass Legend of Zelda Western (that was heavily inspired by Trigun), so... yeeeeep... I write (and prefer to read) some weird, hyperspecific things.

My absolute favourite has got to be Shed Skin by Penguinabominations and snowxhanyouxqueen

It’s a fanfiction from the Yakuza franchise and is set within an alternative Version of Yakuza 0. An absolutely fantastic read, a gorgeous writing style and intriguing characterisation of Kiryu and Majima. Highly recommend it, but please read the tags first for potential Triggers.

This fanfic man… It lowkey broke me. Another Yakuza fanfiction this time focussing on my favourite character from the franchise: Ichiban Kasuga. The fanfic heavily discusses themes of SA but in a respectful manner. But still only read this if you are in a mentally safe place. But like shed skin, this fan fiction NAILS the characterisation of the cast, with its dialogue sounding like it could be straight from the game itself.

As for the reason why my username is Otaku-tyriq, the story behind it is actually pretty boring. When i was 11 i realised i was genderfluid and literally just googled "genderneutral names” and found the name Tyrik. So i changed the letter k to a q for my tumblr name and most of my social media handles as most usernames with the name Tyrik was usually already taken.

Upcharges

My limit of characters to draw in one picture/comic is 1, you will be charged for every additional character in the drawing. For an illustration, the price will be multiplied by the number of total characters. The backgrounds will remain one charge. For a comic, every additional complex character is $30 for a pencil page, $40 for an inked page, and $50 for a coloured page.

If your character has a complex design (Examples: detailed armor, complex clothing or jewelry, additional features…) a charge of $15 will apply.

Excessive changes will be charged. On your third and every subsequent major modification request, you will be charged $20.

My limit for short comics is 1 page. If you want more, it will be multiplied by the number of pages and type of commission (ex. a 2 page pencil comic is $100 x 2 = $200).

I wanted to say this before but i chickened out and had an extreme case of the self-doubt and self-consciousness BUT ANYWAY MY BRAIN CAN'T KEEP ME DOWN, vash and knives have big granny weatherwax & Lilith de tempscire (older sibling assuming the younger sibling will turn out to be the good guy and prepping to take up the natural balance role as the bad guy, then getting mad when the younger sibling leans so hard into being the good guy and doing things For The Greater Good that they actually become the bad guy, leaving the older sibling to reluctantly be the good guy and seethe over how the younger sibling is totally wasting their role by not even being self-aware that that's what they are, THEY would've done it so much better than the younger sibling-) vibes. (Tho knives is the one that actually changed his name into something edgy like Lily lmao.) And this latest chapter really just confirmed it lol.

Hey I think only one of us is cringe here and it's the woman who can't stop talking about her own fanfiction on the internet. Like it's definitely me. Nothing cringe about making the fanfic posting experience rewarding by starting discussion about it with the highly enthusiastic author :)

I've read a bit of Discworld (which in Discworld terms is like 15+ books maybe lol?) but I haven't read the Witches series! But yeah that sounds super accurate lol. I think especially in the sense of telling a bigger, grander ur-story, and the characters having their predetermined roles in the story. I mean Vash is very much the Christ figure and Knives is very much the Devil. There's something mythological about them. Which is why Trigun especially is so much fun (and so challenging) to do a roleswap for: it's always interesting to put the Devil in the role of the messiah, and to make a messiah a demon. It's a puzzle that doesn't fit right, and that irreconcilability always makes for the most interesting stories.

The big thing of the story is 'choices'. (Just like Discworld is REALLY into!) Choices are huge in Trigun itself and it handles the topic in a way more interesting and nuanced way than I did lol, but the REALLY FUN thing about roleswaps is that it lets you explore how the choices we make change us as people and change our paths in life. What I wanted for this specific story is for Vash and Knives to basically be the exact same people as they are in canon, with the exact same natures and places in mythology. Knives wasn't meant to be good, and for him it's a series of active decisions almost every second of his life. He decided who he is. A big question asked throughout the story is 'what choices is Vash making, and to what extent is he choosing to be Like That?'. Yayyy foils lol.

(I forgot I'd read 15+ Discworld books. Wow, maybe it was an influence...)

complaining about tristamp under the cut so if you liked it just keep scrolling. it’s not going in any tags because this isn’t an invitation for discussion, just venting. i’m not pulling my punches with this and i am not looking for a rebuttal if you felt differently. warning: this will be a Very Long Read, and probably contain trimax spoilers. now that the boundary’s placed, let’s go.

this is gonna be pretty stream of consciousness, so i’ll type as i go and then double back to break up the walls of text for easier reading.

now. i’m very critical. i criticize the things i love, mostly out of love, because i want them to be better! so just keep that in mind whenever i talk shit about this show. i don’t like to post when angry, because i think i get a little too mean sometimes and have to walk it back a bit later, but my god. i can’t say i enjoy this as an adaptation, or retelling, or reboot, or what have you. it’s gorgeous, there’s clearly heart in it, but it’s just some incredibly sloppy narrative composition/pacing, blatant disregard for the emotional impact of the original by chopping it up and rearranging the pieces, watering down of the characters, like. this feels like lazy fanfiction.

it’s just like... maybe if i grab some things out of the discord server that i wrote when more level headed my point will come across better. this should cover my issues with the entire season as a whole, not just the finale (cause honestly...i haven’t been able to fully articulate my problems with it yet). to preface this, i DO have good things to say about stampede, and you’ll probably catch glimpses of it in some of these screenshots (i keep 99% of my discussions of trigun contained to the Greater Gamer Polycule in order to avoid internet strangers who think a differing opinion is invitation to debate someone). but we’re not here for praise. we’re here for criticism.

so, i had some speculations about the reworking of the timeline we were seeing in stampede, and now that the season is over i can concede that they really did waste an entire season of my time to set up trigun proper. i say wasted cause like. nothing happened lmao. we got hardly any real plot and ZERO character development. these people are not friends. it’s aggravatingly bad character writing. i originally thinking they were ‘remixing’ the plot because they did just move a bunch of mid/late game trimax plot points up into their drawn out prologue. it...does not sit right with me, because it makes these plot points, which were very impactful in the manga, feel unearned.

as you can see, it’s NOT that i’m close minded to the potential of the reboot on principle alone. i have found some joy in the (very rare) moments of levity, intentional or not, that we did get in stampede. but overall. you know. just some bad adaptational changes.

^ me explaining the concept of stampede to a friend thinking of looking into trigun for the first time, as secondary evidence that i don’t hate stampede at all, especially not on principle.

i had hope! i wanted to believe this would be a version of trigun i could love as sincerely as i loved the manga and 98 anime (we’re not gonna talk much about 98 in this post, because i recognize stampede as being more of a retelling of the manga, and my complaints today are centrally about the narrative structure, emotional tone, and characterizations of the cast, etc)

speaking of narrative structure! here’s one of the pitfalls i found in how stampede handled its pacing and character dynamics

more of what i had to say about the characterizations just being...off, alongside the mismanaged (imo) emotional tone and pacing of relationships. this example Does mention the 98 anime but was part of a larger discussion comparing all three versions of the story. overall we just don’t get to see these characters being given room to breathe and really get to get to know one another, have fun and bond on an adventure. and that consequently has a severe negative effect on the weight of their interactions the deeper we get into the show. these people just aren’t friends.

lucian’s gay ass summoning the horrors moment... but yeah. let’s lean into this topic actually. because i’ve had a LOT to say about how important vash and wolfwood’s relationship is for both their characters in the manga and how my knowledge of the manga and 98 anime has to do all the emotional heavy lifting for me to feel anything when watching their stampede iterations interact.

What are your Top Five Ships of All Time that you can Scream (TM) about and why?

All time? Of All Time???? OOOOOH you are making me choose! This is tough, but an exciting ask! Thank you so much, friend!!! I will list them in reverse order, from number 5 to number 1!! (as always, this is just a list based on my current interests, and it could change in the future!)

5. Brawler/Hoodlum from Akudama Drive. Listen, listen. These two? They are in love. So clearly in love. Brawler is Constantly showing off for Hoodlum, and Hoodlum blushes??? When he's talking with Brawler???? Excuse me?????? I 10000% believe Brawler knew Hoodlum stretched the truth with his amount of years he owed the system, but he took One (1) look at Hoodlum's pretty eyes and went "yeah that's fine he's pretty I want to keep him around I will humour him" and that was IT. (I could also talk about the scene with the bridge but I WILL NOT for reasons😭😭😭 He's resting. Just resting.) This one comes out at number 5 because while I love it and could easily go on and on and on about it, I haven't talked about it as much or as often as the others on this list.

4. Mondo Oowaa/Kiyotaka Ishimaru from Danganronpa. These two. THESE. TWO. Ugh. I love them so much. Mondo is MY SON. He's just so...precious. And so is Taka. I love them both and I think their dynamic is very sweet. I think they are very similar to Brawler and Hoodlum in some ways, but obviously not exactly the same. I do love how they bonded over a mutual respect for each other that came from competition. I also will cry every time I watch Mondo's execution, and every time Taka ends up murdered. Pain. I live for the AU where they are both alive and healthy and able to fall in love and live happily ever after. This ship is at number four because I did settle down a lot after my initial playthrough of the game and while I can definitely scream about them at any given time if prompted, I don't search them out as actively as I used to in fanfiction or fanart.

3. Jade Leech/Floyd Leech/Azul Ashengrotto from Twisted Wonderland. This OT3 is honestly addicting to talk about for me. I love them. They're three of my favourite characters in the game, and I really find their dynamics fascinating. They have this incredible trust with each other, they know each other so well, and they support each other. Also I am *here* for the Mafia theme. Love that so so so much. Honestly, over the past few days I don't think I've shut up about them in our DMs and texts.

2. GrimmIchi from Bleach. Honestly, I had to give Grimmjow and Ichigo one of the top two spots. I mean, honestly, I'm one of the co-writers for a blog *dedicated* strictly to GrimmIchi (though I haven't written anything there in a long while...ooops). I have Many Many Many thoughts about them and I love to yell about them. It's very hard to get me to stop once you get me going, and it's so easy to get me going. Just ask @backwardshirt

Kalim/Idia from Twisted Wonderland. I mean. It's not hard to figure out, I'm sure, lol. I talk about them a lot, and I make a lot of posts about them. I love to discuss different dynamics, different possible aus, and I have written several one-shots and short scenes about them now, as well as a multi-chaptered fic centered around them as a pairing (and there will be more to come!!!). I love them and I will take any and all opportunities to shout about them. They are so cute; the introvert and the extrovert, the grumpy rain cloud and the sunshine beam. I love that dynamic with my entire soul. I can't help but be drawn to them. They got that Sun and Moon dynamic. Both of them have such complex emotions, and I think both of them struggle with conveying what they feel; just in totally different ways. I love them so much!!!!!!!!!!

For anyone who might wonder about inactivity from me in this fandom:  

I’m hanging around for Sweary She-Ra and am reblogging stuff from them, but I’m honestly not in Spop so much anymore?  I’m not even scouring for fanfics.  Two reasons:  The first: I’ve gotten really, REALLY into Trigun again.  It’s an old fandom of mine, actually.  It was my obsession for years and the anime reboot / new anime that debuted this year is ACTUALLY FRICKIN’ GOOD.  I’ve been doing my main fanfiction reading in that (even though most of the fandom seems to be obsessed with either a pairing a I dislike - it’s not a bad pairing, I just don’t vibe with it,  or weird brother-incest stuff I dislike even more, or self-insert character x reader bullshit).  I am able...to swim through all the muck to find some of the most stellar genfic hidden in all of it, though).  I’ve started a fanfic that I plan to be an epic, ongoing, I don’t know where it’s going to end multichapter, too.   The second: I am a Legend of Zelda fan.  I had the rare-for-me opportunity to actually pre-order a game and get it when it came out.  Yes, I am playing Tears of the Kingdom.  Yes, it is taking up hours, and hours and hours... I go by Ellain! I am a 18 year old lesbian (surprising, I know), I use any pronouns and I love writing. I am disabled (JIA and like 10 different other things) so I tend to leave for weeks randomly but I promise I'm alive&well🫰. I'll focus on fanfiction as of right now as I still feel a bit self-conscious about posting my own original works. I'm a huge fan of AU's so a lot of my works will include different AU's. English is not my first language and I'm still trying to improve on expanding my vocabulary so if you ever see any kind of mistake in my works, feel free to correct me as I'm using this as an opportunity to improve my English skills.🫶

So I know that this is way out of the blue, but this is something that I've been wanting to try for a long time. I figured it might be time to take some big steps for the future, and this is what came to mind. This would also help me out financially since I recently moved into a new place. 

Anyway, I’ll try to be as thorough as I can without boring you. And of course, if you have any questions please message me. 

To start with, I’ll still be writing my own personal stories but it may be in between commissions or after a determined commission period depending on how many commissions I get.

Then there’s the kind of services I provide. How I’ve broken it down is I write fanfics and original stories, this includes: blurbs, drabbles, and one-shots. That applies to original stories as well, however if you are wanting a series that will have to be something that you and I discuss to see if it’s plausible for me. 

Also, I not only write stories but I can offer some editing services as well. Take a look at the services down below, it’s explained more in depth there. 

Next, how I will take commissions and how they’ll be paid for. When it comes to asking for a story, It's pretty simple; private message me and we can talk about what it is you are looking for. On the pay side, I’ll be doing this through paypal. Now I’ll be honest, I had a bit of a hard time using paypal but I think it’s all set up. I’ll provide a link to it to my paypal and it’ll take you to a page where you can enter the amount of a commission, write what kind of commission you want, and it’ll send it along (again I’m not use to paypal, so let me know if there are any problems).

I have taken art classes at a private college, and I think I could use what I learned here. I’m still a practicing artist, so I’ll offer the best that I can with my current abilities. So for critiques, I will give feedback on your art ranging from composition to color theory. You can submit illustrations, comic books or pages, videos (tutorials, how to’s, etc.), and anything that you feel like could use critiquing. And if you’re not sure, just ask!

Just posting this to keep track of what LJ content I’ve archived using my Wayback Machine method. I’ll be coming back to edit it regularly. All of these are only the most recent 400 posts, so a lot of the “glory years” may be missed for fandoms that were active in the very early 2000s. I also did a skip=400, but it seems like the Memories were no longer updated after a certain point (replaced by tags), so there’s definitely some amount missing.

Most of these were only up to skip=400, since that’s where LJ stops showing you full pages and just gives you individual entries. I can’t control which links WBM decides are important, so if you want to find entries in the archived versions of these communities, some individual posts won’t have the normal clean URL preserved, and you won’t get anything by clicking on the post’s title. You may have to click the comments link, the reply link, or one of the LJ-cut links to find which version WBM decided to grab and archive. I hope that most of the posts were at least archived in some form.

Again, I can’t make any guarantees here; one typical problem I ran into is that in rarelitslash, many people would post in the community with a link to the actual fic, which was posted elsewhere. So if I’m saving links from the Memories, the only archived content would be that post in rarelitslash, not the fic itself. I just couldn’t put in the effort it would take to individually save content on that scale, so in that case we’re left with just a tiny bit of information that the fic existed at some point.
