Neuro-Mimicry

This a term I created for our host Admin (and- I guess all of us :) ) for until we go therapy and get some kind of diagnosis that actually makes sense.

Neuro-Mimicry is a term for an unknown disorder we have where our brain will mimic (or semi-mimic) disorders/conditions/medical problems we hear about.

This can range from mimic symptoms of heart attacks, to chronic pain, to actual mental disorders like NPD. This is usually for a very short amount of time and usually after we hear someone else talk/write about it, without anyone wanting it to happen. This can include: actual physical pain (not nearly to the level of/at the amount of time of chronic pain), trouble walking, semi-delusions (usually delusions of being the only real person), mood swings, etc.

Some times this is based on anxiety around medical things (like the condition hypochondriac), especially in cases of mimicking symptoms of heart attacks, but usually there is no reason for the brain mimicking the symptoms.

Unlike Münchausen syndrome, the symptoms are not consciously faked/exaggerated/sought help for, as we know that it is not real symptoms, as they always disappear for long amounts of time (until we see someone mention them again).

The symbol is a butterfly and flower for no reason, I just liked it :3

okay, so, i'm the newest headmate. i don't have a solid identity but so far , i'm just going by Ruby or Clover and use he / it / xe / rot and liminal, backrooms, and thing neopronouns. below the cut is a rant about my identity.

my identity makes the system uncomfortable because i'm radqueer , transID , and para . but specifically , they're uncomfortable because we're more prone / vulnerable to these communities due to mental illness . in a way , i'm the worst parts of us in the form of a headmate .

i'm in this weird place where i want to be involved in the rq, transID, para community but we're all just so uncomfortable with it and so am i. i want to recover but i don't and it's got me in this middle place of sorts that i hate being in. i've considered just having us form a new headmate so we could fuse but i know that i'd just come out as the more dominant personality like my traits would still be more prominent. i'm also iffy on fusion.

ik i identify with very problematic terms but i'm both comfortable and very uncomfortable with those terms. it's just so disrespectful but i just can't help myself, ig? i don't want to hurt or offend anybody or any community but it's like i can't help myself and i'm just taking whatever term i feel fits me to understand myself. admittedly, sometimes i don't care what others will think of how i identify bc we have moments of just absolute apathy where we hate everybody and don't care abt what anybody or everybody thinks. for me, ig i feel like that more commonly?

this is who i am and i'm weird and fucked up and a personification of what we're scared our mental illness could turn us into but my god, i hate my own communities. they're so fucking harmful and insensitive and even I can see that but somehow they can't? they're all like damn near 18 or over 18 meanwhile i'm like 14 / 15!! ig i'll post abt the stuff i identify as but under my own tag w smth like "tw ruby / clover" so nobody gets triggered bc i know this can be triggering and i don't wanna trigger anyone.

Hi! This might be a little disorganised and super long, but i'm wondering if whatever's going on with us is plurality.

Right now all the other guys are quiet, and just chilling out. Some of em are saying "yeah, dude, we're a system." and I dunno. Also there's Elliott, who is pretty insistent that he's the only one who's actually there and real and has ever been, and he has no idea what the rest of us are.

I have no idea how any of us knew each other's names. There was definitely some good old childhood trauma and earlier thought it was more of a "oh just have a bad sense of self" thing, but after coming across the plural community on a search for cptsd things, realised that there's a lot of things that match up.

Then everyone kinda started being loud and like "oh yeah, hi, I'm here, different person, just roommates in this head apartment" and I don't even know if I was the one who figured that out. Probably not, because it's super fuzzy, and none of us can really remember clearly what happened when anyone else was in control/fronting/doing their thing.

Used to think that it was just normal dissociation/derealisation/depersonalisation or whatever, but sometimes when talking to therapists or other people descriptions are vague and blurry, and then suddenly another time the memory is super clear??

Also is it possible to think you're a system and create system symptoms without being one?

Because sometimes the dude who's kinda just there and being rational and isn't really a person, just always there fronting on the right side keeping us from actually doing anything that stupid, mostly just making us seem polite, ESPECIALLY Callum, he's aggressive and loud and also does not care about manners, when we're all like "no whatever's going on isn't a system, this is all some other weird brain thing" smushes it all into one gray blob that's sort of badly mixed?

And then sometimes everyone just becomes themselves again, either when someone brings something up that we all have different views on, like yesterday, when we were supposed to journal about religion/source energy, and we've all got different ideas about that, or whenever anyone thinks "huh, are we a system?"

Yesterday it was kind of like everyone was popping up and talking and also started being really loud, and half of us were denying the other's existence, and the other half were just existing and being loud, and I don't know, but it felt like warzone brain.

Also sometimes the gajillion thoughts a minute can be all of us screaming across the house, or just one of us having a lot of loud thoughts and their brain just doing annoying brain stuff.

It was really stressful yesterday, and I've been scared to talk to anyone about this or any suspicions of plurality. I feel like it's either going to be super stigmatised or I'm going to be completely ignored and misinterpreted, which it won't be the first time. Also really scared that it'll make getting hrt take even longer, even though we're all dudes, and know what we need. I know I should talk to my therapist, but I'm really scared. Others have been asking for me to tell them what's going on, but I'm terrified. All of us are. Is it a good idea to open up about this?

Also, on a goofier level, I/we have joked about being a disorganised mess because this brain is an apartment of teenage boys.

Hey there. Exploring if you're a system or not can definitely be a complicated and long process. It can be even more difficult as you deal with other things going on in your mind. There are a couple different questions in your ask which I'll try to address, as well as offer my support to you as you continue to explore this question.

One of your main questions is wondering if you are a system. We can give perspective from our own experience and try to give resources that may help with this question. Ultimately, whether you are plural, have something else going on, or something else is determined by you, your doctors and therapists, and other professionals.

It can he helpful to consult credible online resources, books, and even explore other people's personal experiences, but also know that every system is different and may not present like others online. We hope you can continue to explore plurality by continuing to talk with your members, exploring people's roles, and even looking into other mental health conditions and theories.

All this being said, your second question asked if it's a good idea to tell your therapist about you questioning being plural. This is hard for me to give a yes or no to, since I don't know your therapist, your monetary or home/family situation, etc. That being said, having someone to help as you question your plurality and general mental health can be extremely helpful. I highly suggest talking to your therapist especially if it involves potential trauma.

As a final note, it's understandable to fear being misunderstood or ignored. Not all therapists are knowledgable about dissociation, systems, or plurality in general. That being said, how you explain your plurality can be important in their initial impression and direction for therapy and/or diagnosis. If you need to, write out before hand what you want to explain. Write about symptoms, like forgetfulness, fuzzy memories, identity confusion, and about your potential system members. Using system language (headmates, alters, system, dissociation) is up to you, but it might be best to avoid those words so the therapist can get an unbiased view and give their unbiased opinion.

Finally, if your therapist feels they are not qualified or unsure about what to do next, they may consult other therapists or even suggest a different one. This can be good for getting more specific help.

Your final question is if a person can not be a system but create symptoms on their own. In my opinion, people can attribute symptoms they have to one disorder or cause when another might fit better. This doesn't happen all the time; it just means that consulting many different sources, talking with professionals, and being honest and curious about your symptoms are important things to do. And importantly, it's ok to explore your mental health, to question what you might have, and it's ok to be right or wrong about that. In my view, it's better to explore something and be wrong than to let a potential problem be left unexplored/treated.

An unstoppable team-up

Gravity Falls was strange, and the townsfolk even stranger, it seemed.

The twins had been unceremoniously dropped off on the side of the dusty road, the roar of the bus engine fading away as the driver wordlessly drove off without fanfare. The poor man had almost seemed close to tears ever since they had entered the thresholds of this seemingly innocuous town, all too eager to speed off and away while leaving the two children coughing and wheezing in its dust.

It had not even been a full minute since their lackluster drop-off before they became well acquainted with the oddly sociable and irritatingly chatty inhabitants of Gravity Falls. A single conversation with a pair of boisterous policemen already told them all they needed to know about the history of the town, as well as the whereabouts of their Great Uncle Ford.

"The Mystery Shack," the townsfolk had called it. It seemed as though their distant uncle had earned himself somewhat of a reputation amongst the locals. He was the town cryptid; the ever elusive mad scientist that lived in the outskirts of town in this so called "Mystery Shack". No one really knew who he really was; but everyone knew exactly who he was.

So, when the twins found themselves stood hand in hand in front of the rickety old shack, they hadn't really known what to expect when door had swung open with a deafening slam.

He was a strange man, their Great Uncle Ford. He seemed nothing like the cackling looney lab-coated madman they had imagined from what meager hushed information the townsfolk had offered them. It seemed as though the tales of a scientist gone mad that experimented on stray children that wandered into his spooky "Mystery Shack" was but a cruel rumor.

He mostly just seemed unhealthy, to be honest. His sickly, pale frame utterly drowned in the thick red woolen sweater that practically seemed to hang off of his lanky body like a second flap of skin. It made him look almost child-like, like a kid trying on their parents clothes; which somewhat diluted the intimidating effects of his looming height.

Although, the townsfolk's apparent fear of their Great Uncle Ford seemed to have some merit.

For one, Grunkle Ford really didn't seem all too human. He wasn't inhumane, per se; just, not entirely himself, if that made any sense. Looking at him was like looking at an incomplete puzzle; or looking at someone who you remember all your life wearing a hat, suddenly coming to work one day without one, and it takes a little too long for you to remember what is missing.

It was like Grunkle Ford had lost pieces of himself. Somewhere, to someone. His eyes seemed... almost empty. They were a little too dull and a little too opaque, lacking the lively shine of life everyone else seemed to have.

Another thing was that Grunkle Ford wasn't entirely alone. There was... someone else. The twins couldn't exactly pinpoint where, but they could feel its stare, whatever or whoever it was. They could almost feel its stare, a non-existent eye trailing a weird prickling sensation across their skin. The twins recalled the words of one of the townsfolk, a tall bestacled man with haunted blind eyes; although unseeing they could have sworn his gaze never seemed to leave them, as all he said was:

"Don't catch IT staring at you"

The twins had an odd feeling that IT was looking at them right now.

They didn't even notice when the pale bony hand of Grunkle Ford suddenly reached into their personal space, barely registering his words at all, much less the extra fingers that adorned each of his rough, worn palms.

They didn't take the hand.

If the twins had thought the outside of the shack looked decrepit, the inside seemed somehow even worse.

Every inch of exposed wall, ceiling or floor were utterly covered by sprawling symbols, summoning circles, and indecipherable words that seemed to be in an entirely different language than any the twins knew. They overlapped and tangled into one another into big, messy, red splotches of clustered nothings.

There were notes, diagrams on ripped pieces of aged looking paper scattered everywhere, with hardly any room for post-it notes squeezed wherever there was room. Lit and unlit candles were placed absolutely everywhere; either hidden in the dark corners or openly stood in the middle of the floor; sometimes in a circle, sometimes not. The melted fallen wax had coagulated into a hard white mess onto the floor; the smell of cheap vanilla scented candles intermingling with the smell of halloween fake blood (and Dipper was convince there had to be some real blood there, too) to create a sour concoction that stung their noses unpleasantly.

The shack was sparsely furnished with rarely any furniture at all. Not even a couch, the tables and chairs simply pushed to the walls to make more space for the endlessly swirling symbols and pentagrams. The twins were hesitant of stepping on any of the summoning circles, carefully sidestepping the candles and walking over the line of the pentagrams.

The attic, where they would be residing, was not much better.

Maybe they did end up in a mad scientist's house, after all.

It mimicked how light disappears as you go deeper in the ocean but the sunken code this webbedsite runs on never set a cap for how dark it gets, so eventually you would have to copy ad paste the text on the reblubs onto somewhere to read them.

You really dont know a thing about natural selection, do you? Bettas have flashy fins because they have to seem threatening to possible competitors. They don't migrate so they aren't built for that. They're built for living in ponds and marshes, low oxygen environments, and by cod, they are built for fighting territorial battles! You shouldn't underestimate a fish literally called fighting fish. I believe the name "fishblr" pays homage to the meaning of the word where just about everything in the water was considered a fish. It's why we have words like "shellfish", "whalefish", "jellyfish", "starfish".

Personally aquablr would work really well, too. There's a sizeable amphibious userbase on here.

Can we please for the love of god stop telling teenagers they’re too young to have aches and pains. Can we please stop being dismissive about these things. Fakeclaiming is disgusting period, but it is exponentially harmful to youth. Just because you didn’t start hurting until your 20s or 30s or 40s doesn’t mean every teenager complaining of chronic pain must be lying. I learned the hard way that if kids are invalidated enough about this, they will just learn to accept constant pain as a fact of life. And then they will need surgery they can’t afford in ten years bc it turns out constant pain is NOT a fact of life. At any age.
