unpopular football rpf opinion but i kind of dont understand any ship with virgil with anyone other than joel matip... like virgil makes it so obvious that he likes joel more than anyone else, when i went on ao3 i expected it to be the main ship related to virgil but no, come to find out it's with alisson? lol no hate to anyone that ships it in fact i think it's cute just not my otp, but i'm having one of those fixed ship moments where i can't ship this person with anyone else other than another specific person.

I’m not trying to attack you, but do you know that proshipper means someone who supports and romanticizes pedophilia, incest, and abuse? Your reblog on that post seems to read that you think antis just hate on people for having ships they don’t like. But it’s completely different than that. Just looking on the proshipper side of Tumblr and the internet and you can see people happily shipping children and adults and making nsfw content of such things.

i appreciate that you're not being outright hostile, but i have to say, that on its own put you above basically every anti i've interacted with.

i understand where antis are coming from, i really do. there are a lot of things on the internet that make me deeply uncomfortable, including the minor/adult ships that you mention. i don't want to anything to do with those kinds of ships and i would be happiest if i never saw them again. which is why i'm proship.

nine times out of ten, if i see that kind of ship brought up on my dash, it's because i was following an anti without realizing it, and they brought it up unprompted and untagged, to talk about how bad it is that they exist. they are the ones putting that kind of content in front of my face and making it harder to avoid.

the thing about people who ship those ships is that they're generally very aware that not everyone wants to see that kind of content, and so they tag it. they make sideblogs to talk about it. they don't go out of their way to shove it in people's faces. that means i, and everyone else who doesn't like it, can avoid it.

what antis want is for it to not exist at all. they want the tags to be purged and blocked, and for anyone who uses those tags to have their accounts deleted. and sure, that might get rid of some of it, but do you know what would happen to the rest? it would stop being tagged. people who don't want to see it wouldn't have the tools to avoid it. this isn't just a hypothetical, that's what's happened any time a fan space has tried to do that.

that's not even getting into the rabbit hole of what should be banned and what shouldn't. obviously any content that depicts real children or real life abuse shouldn't exist and shouldn't be allowed to be posted, but basically any platform that people use already enforces those policies, and there's not much of a slippery slope to go down there. if it involves real living breathing people being abused, it's bad. end of discussion.

but the same can't be said for fiction. ask ten antis for a specific list of all the content that should be banned, and you'll get ten different answers. what about kink? what about roleplay? what about horror and murder and anything that involves fictional characters being graphically tortured? what about people using art to process terrible things that have happened to them? what about art that uses dark themes as a horror element? if you just want to ban anything questionable to anyone, that's the line of thinking that gets any mention of lgbt existence banned. and again, this isn't just a hypothetical, this has happened before, and that's generally where it leads.

i know, from personal experience, that antis do, in fact, send harassment to people just for shipping things they don't like. i've gotten accused of absolutely vile shit for shipping two fictional characters who were both consenting adults. i've seen ship wars turn into moral battlegrounds, over ships that an average person wouldn't bat an eye at.

the thing about "romanticization" is a whole other can of worms. the anti logic goes like this: if someone sees something (even if it's very obviously fictional) in a positive light enough times, they will start thinking it's okay in real life, and go on to hurt real people. the problem with that is that it's just. blatantly untrue.

if it were true every horror movie fan would be a serial killer, every person that studies dark media would be an unhinged psychopath, and everyone who is into ddlg would be a pedophile. but they're not. they just aren't. people have directed movies just as fucked up as the darkest shit on ao3, and are still capable of being normal human beings who know right from wrong in real life.

even if someone is that impressionable, scrubbing away the existence of every piece of questionable content isn't going to solve their problem, because they're still going to be vulnerable to con men, scams, and cultists. the only thing that would actually materially help someone like that is developing their own morals and critical thinking.

children are also more impressionable, and there's a lot of content that's not suitable for them, but that doesn't mean that content shouldn't exist. it just means that they should stick to spaces designed for them (which most social media sites, tumblr included, are not) or, if they're old enough to be responsible for their experience online, they, or a trusted adult in their lives, should block and filter out things that they aren't comfortable with.

which is what everyone on the internet should be doing. it's what i do, and it's made the internet a much more pleasant place to be. and it's why i sometimes worry for antis mental health, especially teenagers, because they're being told it's right and moral to seek out content that makes them uncomfortable and to engage with the people making it. and that's just. really bad. it's not good for the creators that they're harassing obviously, but it's also really bad for them! it's not healthy to seek out things that make you feel bad, and it's a terrible internet safety lesson to teach minors that it's okay for them to seek out and engage with people making adult content.

individual harassment and crusading is never going to succeed at removing dark content from the internet. it just isn't. at best you might get a small percentage of people who create that content to stop sharing it, at worst you're just going to make people stop tagging it, and either way, you're exposing yourself to things that make you feel bad, when you don't have to.

if you want to materially change the type of content you see, you can. the block button is your friend, use it liberally. same with content filtering and tag blocking.

Do you have an idea of disability as part of redemption arc ? Let's say, I have a character who's a professional executioner, from a dynasty of professional executioners, XVIIIth century. He was a real person, who eventually became paraplegic. Since, I want, for my historical novel to redeem him...He started torturing people at fourteen, maybe younger, and killed for the first time at age 18. He's 33 when the story started, and became hemiplegic/paraplegic (documentation isn't clear on this) at age 35, and was in a social circle of executioners and torturers since birth. Realistically, maybe, he would have little to no sense of belonging beyond that of executioner, unless maybe as head of house, which is again, liked to his position as executioner. He's a third class citizen, but an absurdly wealthy one, and no longer being able-bodied doesn't mean he can stop depending on the executioner buisness, it just means his son has to start killing at 15.

How do you think a man who worked for 13 years as master executioner of Paris, but officially because one at age 7, insuring his wealth but also the envy of his colleagues, would cope with being hemiplegic/paraplegic. Also, one of his potencial rivals was a man who in all likelyhood beated his mother, and probably him and his brother when they were at least teenagers. That master executioner was aged 35 when he lost his mobility to a stroke. The Mémoires of the Sanson family also described him a proud piller of his community, delivering charitable medical care to those in needs and one who enjoyed rough horse riding.

Thank you for your ask! This sounds like a case of redemption through disability, which is a trope that should be avoided. A disabled character can get redeemed, but it should be entirely separate from their disability.

Along with his disability not redeeming him, you should also make sure it doesn’t make him spiteful or cruel. Basically the disability should change what he can physically do, not who he is.

As for the second part of the ask, I first want to note none of our mods are parapalegic/hemiplegic, so we can’t speak for coping with these disabilities specifically. I’d recommend looking for first hand accounts of people with these conditions, or preferably seeing if you can find someone with them to ask or act as a sensitivity reader.

I don’t know much about 18th century French medicine, but physical & occupational therapy will be important as he re-learns tasks that were once easy and figure out ways to complete tasks he can no longer do. Studies show horseback riding can help stroke survivors with their recovery, though he’ll need to ride gently at first.

I just want to say real quick, adding on to the case of redemption through disability, that the reason we want to avoid it is because moralizing disability is something that very much happens to real alive people every day.

Tying disability to morality often is 'disability is a moral failure' type of situation, but another way it affects people is the assumption that 'suffering' through a disability somehow makes you more 'pure' or 'better.' Like when you see some grumpy mean character get an injury and Suddenly They Understand Hardships of Others and they become a better person — sort of a mix between 'disability as punishment' and 'disabled people are innocent.'

This kind of seems like what you're doing here. There's a lot of historical fiction out there that uses real life counterparts. If you choose to do that and redeem a bad person, I can't exactly stop you. But I want you to examine why you think what's going to redeem him is the onset of his disability, rather than an understanding of what he did and attempts to do better.

I agree completely with what has been said and just want to add that even disorders like traumatic brain injuries and strokes that can sometimes affect not only function but also personality should not be used as a moral thing, as mentioned earlier. More realistically impacts of a stroke on personality and mood are depression (this was my main symptom even with minimal other symptoms and damage), some impulsiveness or irritability, and mood swings. The disability, again, should not make them a better or worse person inherently.

i literally read the book of bill days ago but its only now kinda hitting me how fucked ford and bills whole thing was though cause ford literally talks about being so unable to sleep (to try to keep bill away), and when sleep inevitably caught up to him, he would wake up to his body abused and things messed with and he just couldnt seem to find an escape (and he literally didnt get to truly escape until 30 years later)

(also keeping people awake for unhealthily long periods of time is another tactic used to mess with and control people because of how it impairs brain function)

listing off the things we see in those few pages in the book of bill:

i mean, punching and scratching at a steel door for hours would be so damaging to your hands and probably hurt like hell for at least 2 days after. then bill says he was hitting fords head against a wall, though its said in a post-it as if its a joke, but he also isnt exactly above doing that, and honestly he says most things like its a joke.

i also dont need to say 'bill really doesnt know how to take no for an answer' because he makes that very clear in literally any interaction we see with him.

bill literally puts a venomous snake near ford while fords asleep, which could have killed him if he wasnt lucky+skilled enough to deal with it.

he nearly gives ford hypothermia, and in the same action actively threatens ford with the idea of making him jump off of a high spot, and like ford says, doesnt do it just so he can send a message to ford about how hes the one in control.

he gets ford in trouble with not only the law, but also with other people that are probably not very happy with him after. he mutilates fords body in several ways, and i dont think i need to go into detail on them because theyre... so ew. and he even exposes part of fords body to the world. like, its just taking his shirt off, but thats still showing off his body in a way that he didnt agree to or want

and then he attempts to (or purposefully fails to) call stan, using fords voice to threaten suicide and tell stan that ford never loved him.

and he punctuates it with a final power move, in a hallucination that he creates, hes messing with stans memories and making him feel like his body was basically about to implode

and like. okay, we all joke about toxic old man yaoi, and its a good joke and toxic old man yaoi is great and its an interesting ship, but holy fuck.

like. to say the absolute least, that had to be so, so deeply violating. its no wonder that when we see ford in the past, when he finally contacts stan, he looks like hes on the verge of shattering into a million pieces. he just went through, and still wasnt yet out of, some deeply abusive shit.

like... everything coming out lately both in this book and what ive heard is on the website, mixed with what we already knew from the show itself... the stans are both so, so fucking tragic dude. their whole lives were thrown away over things that really didnt even need to be the way they were, and then they both get into situations that are pretty damn screwed, and those situations follow them for the rest of their lives. its basically a miracle that things worked out in the end for them.

i dont really have a point, i just had to talk about all that. i read almost all of the book of bill in one sitting, and while i was really enjoying it, i was also getting kind of tired of sitting in one spot only doing this one thing for several hours straight. i still felt a lot of the emotional bits of it of course, but man this part specifically just really didnt hit me until now.

The sun hung low in the sky, casting long shadows over the Interlagos circuit as the roar of engines filled the air. It was the final qualifying session of the season, and the atmosphere was electric with anticipation.

Fernando Alonso had a lot riding on this race. A strong performance would clinch his second consecutive World Championship title.

Lance was eager to prove himself alongside his experienced peers.

Fernando secured fourth place in qualifying, a solid position that put him in contention for the championship. He was pleased but not complacent. As he stepped out of his car, he glanced over to see Lance climbing out of his Racing Point, having qualified 11th. Fernando's eyes softened. He knew how hard Lance had been pushing himself this season.

Later that evening, away from the noise and tension of the track, Fernando and Lance retreated to the tranquility of Lance's hotel room since it was the closer one. The day’s efforts had taken their toll, and the room provided a much-needed sanctuary.

Fernando pulled Lance close, pressing a soft kiss to his temple. "You did well today, Lancito. You should be proud."

Lance sighed, leaning into Fernando’s embrace. "I wanted to do better. I know I can do better."

Fernando stroked his hair gently. "You’re doing great. Don’t be so hard on yourself."

The next morning, the tension in the paddock was palpable. As the drivers prepared for the race, Fernando found himself constantly looking over at Lance. There was an unspoken bond between them, a mix of competitiveness and deep affection, no matter what happened on-track their bond waw left unchanged.

The race began with a flurry of excitement, but disaster struck almost immediately. In the chaos of the first lap, Lance's car was clipped, sending him spinning off the track. The sight of his car crashing into the barriers made Fernando’s heart leap into his throat. His immediate concern was for Lance’s safety, but he had to stay focused on his own race, simply asking his engineer to update him on the boy in pinks condition.

Fernando fought hard, pushing his car to its limits. Despite the worry gnawing at him, he managed to finish the race in second place, securing enough points to win the championship. The crowd erupted in cheers, but Fernando’s thoughts were elsewhere.

As soon as he crossed the finish line, he abandoned his car and sprinted toward the paddock, desperate to find Lance. His championship celebration could wait. Nothing mattered more than Lance’s well-being.

He found Lance huddled in his drivers room, his body shaking with sobs. The boy hadn't even bothered to get out of his racesuit, the material simply bundled up around his waist as his nails dug into his forearm. There were bleeding scratches on his arms, and he was cursing himself in frustration and self-loathing.

“Lance!” Fernando’s voice broke as he rushed to him, pulling him into a tight embrace, he was unsure what to do, he'd never seen Lance like this. He'd had plenty of bad results but this one truly pushed him over the edge. “Stop, please. You’re hurting yourself.”

Lance resisted at first, but Fernando held him tighter, refusing to let go. Finally, his resistance melted, and he collapsed against Fernando, his tears soaking into Fernando’s race suit.

“I’m so sorry,” Lance choked out. “I did so bad, and I ruined everything. I can’t even be happy for you, Nando.”

Fernando’s heart ached as he gently cupped Lance’s face, forcing him to meet his eyes. “Listen to me, Lance. You forget that you are so much more than a racer. Te quiero mucho, Lancito. You are just...” He paused, trying to figure out the words he wanted to use, “a teenager. Be kind to yourself, Mi sol.”

“But I upset the team, Nando,” Lance whispered, his voice raw with anguish. “I didn’t finish the race. They were counting on me. I disappointed everyone.”

“No, you didn’t,” Fernando said firmly. “You did your best, and that’s all that matters. Racing is tough, and crashes happen. It’s part of the sport. This one wasn't even your fault. What matters is that you’re okay. Noe one cares about the race, Lance. I care about you.”

Lance’s sobs began to subside as Fernando’s words sank in. Fernando pressed a gentle kiss to Lance’s forehead, then his tear-streaked cheeks. “You mean everything to me. Your safety, your happiness, that’s what’s important. I couldn’t enjoy any of this without you with me.”

Lance looked up at him, his eyes red but now softened. “Really?”

“Really,” Fernando said, brushing a lock of hair from Lance’s face. “Now come here, let's clean this up.” He hummed, referring to the situation on his arms.

That evening, they returned to their hotel room, the sounds of celebration still echoing in the distance. Fernando made sure Lance was comfortable, tending to his scratched arms with gentle care. They lay together on the bed, the warmth of their bodies providing comfort and reassurance.

Fernando turned to Lance, his eyes filled with love. “You’re my world, you know that?"

Lance snuggled closer, the weight of his earlier despair lifting with every beat of Fernando’s heart against his. “I’m so lucky to have you,” he whispered.

Fernando smiled, kissing Lance’s forehead. “So don't go anywhere.”

As they drifted off to sleep, wrapped in each other’s arms, the future seemed a little brighter. The challenges of racing were daunting, but as long as they were together, they knew they would be okay. And in that moment, eachother was all that mattered.

Genuine question (you don't really do this but I'm too scared to ask anyone else 😭) but when I see Mario and Luigi fanart/fanfics the artist/writer sometimes adds a disclaimer saying "NOT A SHIP" or "PURELY FAMILIAL" etc. Why? Everybody knows they are brothers, even people who barely know Super Mario series, nobody is thinking of it in any other way. Of course it is not a ship. It confuses me that they feel the need to defend themselves just because they are drawing two brothers being happy 😅 Sorry for bad English lol

Sadly, you’d be surprised. There’s a shocking number of people who either 1.) ship them or 2.) think that any display of verbal or physical affection is indicative of romantic or sexual attraction, because they’ve got weird internalized holdovers regarding affection between siblings and/or affection between men. Just the other day (yesterday I think?) I got an anon suggesting that I stop writing Mareach fics because the Brothership trailer “proves who Mario loves more,” and while I’m not sure if they were suggesting that you can’t love more than one person at a time in any manner or if they’re suggesting Mario’s love for Luigi must be romantic/sexual in nature… you see where the holdovers come in.

I’ve seen perfectly innocent brotherly love art reblogged under the mariocest tag, and I’ve seen what LOOKS like wholesome brotherly love art, only to find that same artist has drawn them making out or, uh, going at it. So, sadly, such disclaimers do need to be made sometimes. Some people are just sick.

this topic is a slippery slope so i want to be careful about it skdsjjds but yes i agree. thoughts and fantasies aren’t crimes, and fictional characters are objects that can’t be hurt. fiction never equals reality and you can have fantasies in fiction that you’d never act on irl, so to treat it as genuine abuse and something to be feared, shunned, and condemned is outrageous. at the end of the day just leave people be. block if you feel uncomfortable with their content. you’re more than entitled to feelings of disgust truly but it’s not appropriate to act on them. fiction can never hurt or cause real genuine harm.

That would come down to the legal parameters of where the work was created and/or hosted but in general, no, because no actual minor is being exploited. The 'material' isn't real and there's no visual to try and present it as such.

(In the way that hyper-realistic artwork or photo manipulations would. Technically the material itself is fake but it was created with the aim of presenting it as real, or assumed as real.)

That, and, it can be incredibly difficult to actually manage all the different criteria of what makes it a crime or not, and what qualities tip it over into the league of actionable.

In some countries its technically illegal, but rarely if ever actually prosecuted or acted against. In much the same way that technically, a lot of fan-made merchandise is illegal, but the companies and trademarks only ever enact a strike when the gets 'too big.'

Hi there, If your initial reaction to seeing someone talk about negative [yet still canon] things related to your favorite character is to come into that person's ask box and tell them to go fuck themselves, you need to get up, turn of your computer, and go outside for a while.

Whatever post you're mad about was made months ago, using tags that are meant to be used when discussing a character regardless of how much the op likes said character.

Solomon is fine, I don't really care for him, but what I'm most likely referring to in the post you're talking about is the hypocrisy of the obey me fandom when it comes to Solomon's behavior.

When Solomon attempted to give Lucifer a drink that was enchanted to make him want a pact with Solomon, it was fairly well agreed across the fandom that what Solomon did was pretty fucked up and not okay. However, when talking about how Solomon got his pact with Asmodeus by taking advantage of the fact he was heartbroken and drunk to tie him into a forever binding pact against his will, somehow people are making excuses as to why it was necessary and why what Solomon did is fine actually and not a problem at all. This is where my issue with Solomon and his fans lies, with the hypocrisy. I couldn't give 2 shits whether he's your favorite character or not, good for you if he is! But what we're NOT going to do is scream bloody murder when Solomon attempts to do shady shit to Lucifer, but overly demonize Asmodeus, say he deserved it, say his charming power is non consensual regardless of the fact nowhere in canon says he has ever used it to have non consensual sex and has only used it to get himself and his family out of danger, or say that he is a beast that needs to be controlled when we don't talk that way about the other 6 brothers, when Solomon succeeds in taking advantage of his inebriated state to tie them together so he can use Asmodeus' power for his own gain.

And one more thing we aren't going to do; call me an idiot and accuse me of calling your blorbo a rapist when *you* cannot tell the difference between someone saying "a character was taken advantage of while under the influence" and "this character is a rapist." Solomon did not sexually assault anyone, however the framing of that scene is open to interpretation and to my interpretation, it was heavy handed in showing Solomon doing something that is extremely not okay and laughing it off like it was completely fine. Because to him, it IS fine to treat demons like that. There is absolutely nothing wrong with my interpretation of the scene, and I will continue to use characters' main tags when talking about them because the tags are used for discussion.

So much has happened lately but the big thing that’s been distracting me fandom-wise is the release of The Amazing Digital Circus, unsurprisingly. After Paratober ends and I finish a personal art project (due to the nature of it I won’t be publicly posting or discussing it, it’s not bad just personal), I’ll likely be making fanart for it cuz JEEZ I love those silly fucks and already have way too many headcannons and theories about them.
