Ultra-processed foods (UPFs) have been linked to health problems such as heart disease and diabetes, and a new study suggests they might also be contributing to chronic insomnia in some people. These UPFs can be any foodstuffs that are heavily modified to improve their taste, or produce them on a mass scale, or help them to last longer. They contrast with foods like fruit or vegetables, that come mostly as they are. Researchers led by a team from Sorbonne Paris Nord University in France looked at data collected on 38,570 adults as part of the NutriNet-Santé research project, mapping diet information against sleep variables.

Stuff I ate recently:

I am working thru some a tough week. [Work] I will not be buying most ultra process food for awhile.

I managed to give away a box of bars & random snacks that I seemed to have some issues with. (Which is good.... It had been put up but not given away...which meant I was really saving it for a binge. Is that dumb? Yes. But at least I realized what I was doing...)

Working on continuing to buy smaller packages of everything. Not buying problem food.

Not doing anything extreme, just trying to work within the parameters of less packaging. More veggies, greens, farmers markets.

Gonna try to get my garden going.

I will continue yogurt & turkey/chicken sausage as my processed foods..... moderation.

Debate me if you want, I'm all for it, but let's keep it civil.

I think it's really dangerous that we're still normalizing ultra processed foods. I think it's really dangerous that people don't view overconsumption of food as dangerous as other methods of methods of overconsumption. I live in the southern us, my family has been extremely poor my either life, and when we were living with my grandparents (because they couldn't afford the mortgage and my parents couldn't afford rent) that was 9 people to feed, and I can tell you right now it's not cheaper to eat ultra processed foods. It wasn't then and it certainly isn't now.

I don't want to attack people for their weight. That's not what I'm trying to do here at all. I get it's a extremely touchy subject, and with my own ED history and chronic health conditions, my weight has changed rapidly my entire life. This problem is effecting everyone, and to put it bluntly if your staying thin because you're eating 1300 calories of chips or lattes or whatever, you're still hurting yourself and the environment. We all grew up in this food environment and regardless of weight we all need to help ourselves and be healthier. We need to stop exacerbating health issues, and we need to stop letting marketing literally bring us closer to death.

I also do think food and drink can be a therapeutic experience, baking and cooking for others (or yourself), drinking your favorite tea or coffee can all be so healing, but these products aren't that experience. They never actually help and it scares me how many people are in the habit of pretending they do.

Ninety percent of prefectural assembly members with ties to the Unification Church were re-elected in the unified local elections in April, but their popularity showed signs of waning, an Asahi Shimbun survey showed.

The unified elections were the first collective nationwide vote held since the Unification Church came under fire again for its fund-collection methods following the assassination of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in July last year, apparently over his ties to the religious group.

According to an Asahi Shimbun survey conducted in August and September last year, 292 of the 2,314 responding prefectural assembly members acknowledged their connections with the church, now formally called the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification.

The ties included attendance at Unification Church-related meetings or events, and receiving support from the group in election campaigns.

The terms for 251 church-connected assembly members expired in spring. Of them, 228 sought re-election in the April 9 elections held in 41 of Japan’s 47 prefectures, while 23 members did not run due to age or other reasons.

Of these candidates, 206, or 90.4 percent, were re-elected. Twenty-two members, or 9.6 percent, lost their seats.

Among those re-elected, 47, or around 23 percent, ran uncontested.

More than 80 percent of the church-tied prefectural assembly members were from the ruling Liberal Democratic Party.

Among all 1,111 LDP incumbents who ran in the local assembly elections, 98 members, or 8.8 percent, were defeated.

Of all 228 candidates who confirmed their ties to the church, 118 gained fewer votes than in the previous election, while 42 garnered more ballots.

It is not clear if the church ties affected vote counts for 68 of the candidates because they ran uncontested in either of the two latest elections, or won in a by-election held within the past four years.

However, some candidates lost several thousand to 10,000 votes compared to their tallies in the previous election after their connections with the church became known.

Setsuko Sakuraba, 65, an LDP candidate, sought a second term in the Niigata prefectural assembly from the electoral district of Joetsu city.

But she was defeated in the election after gaining 9,536 votes. That was 2,459 votes fewer than her total in the previous election, when she placed fourth and gained one of the five assembly seats for the city.

Sakuraba had attended Unification Church-related events and received support in her campaign from people connected to the group.

These ties were reported in local newspapers and The Asahi Shimbun.

After her election loss, Sakuraba said about her church ties, “It’s hard to say how much, but there must have been a significant impact (on the election results.)”

She said someone had placed stickers with words “Unification Church endorsed candidate” on her campaign posters in Joetsu city.

About 50 to 60 of these stickers were found, she said.

In the Tochigi prefectural assembly election, 82-year-old Kazuyoshi Itabashi of the LDP was elected for a national record 14th straight time.

Itabashi gained 10,411 votes in the election four years ago, but this time he received 7,674 ballots, down by 2,737.

He also received the fewest votes among the five elected candidates representing the Oyama city and Nogi town electoral district.

“I think there was a slight decrease in votes,” he said after the election.

In September last year, reports surfaced that Itabashi was serving as head of the prefectural association of a church-related organization called the Federation for World Peace.

He resigned from the position.

Before the election, a Buddhist organization that had supported Itabashi told him that it would withhold its support because of his connection to the Federation for World Peace.

The Unification Church’s public relations department told The Asahi Shimbun, “Our organization has never had involvement with specific candidates or political parties.”

Glitterbombs for rogues

A/N: I got sick over the holidays. So I did not do any of the writing I originally wanted to do. So instead of that Christmas Story you get this Mark Rober inspired little tidbit.

Tim had a new favorite Engineer Youtube. The boy was a bit younger than him but a genius Engineer judging by the hand full of videos Tim had marathoned through. According to the listed self-introduction part of the video, Danny was currently an engineering student in Gotham with the goal to work one day for NASA. (Tim held out some hopes that he maybe could snag the kid for WE if possible. He had already sent out an internship offer after the third video he had watched)

Either way, Danny had potential and ideas that borderlined on mad science. But made his videos of his little projects even more entertaining and interesting to watch. Tim's favorite so far was Danny's explanation on how he reconstructed his toaster so that it would launch itself into space after the third his roommate burned toast with it. He did buy his roommate a new toaster at the end of the video though.

Still Tim liked this guy and his videos. So with anticipation he clicked on one of the newer videos. The title having caught his attention: 'Why Glitter'.

Instead of the usual introduction bit with little highlights of Danny's previous project the video started out with a big fat warning in red letter to not attempt to replicate anything in the video. That had Tim very curious already, but then a little video clip following that had Tim spitting out the coffee he was just sipping from.

Thankfully he missed spitting on his phone, still he jumped out of his cozy bed where he had been watching YouTube on his phone and hurried over to his laptop. The video, meanwhile, was continuing playing. He could hear the usual music from the introduction part as well as Danny's voice explaining his reasosn -which were valid, Tim had to agree with some of them- once that part was done.

By now he had fired up his laptop and was researching. The video in the background was explaining how Danny had build his Glitterbombs similar to the once another youtuber had but slightly modified them since he was not going to use fart-spray. Tim eyes widened as he found the first correlating news articles, wondering how they hadn't seen them sooner, but a glance at the date revealed that they were only posted a couple of hours ago.

Danny in the video was no explaining about his fist chooses victim and Tim dived onto his bed from his desk to get his phone back in his hands. Wide eyed, he watched as Danny obviously with a GoPro strapped to his head, crawled through what looked like an air vent. Once he reached an opening he looked through the slits into what appeared to be Riddlers hide out. Danny took the Camara of his head so that he could grin into it making the sign for silence as he barely contained his own chuckles. The other then waited for a moment, the camera work now getting wonky and the video even glitching out but a second later Danny was back in focuse before pointing down and then directing the Camara to his view. There in Riddlers hideout now sat Danny's self engineered glitterbomb.

"No he didn't..." Tim muttered as the video cut to a different scene. Danny was now walking through the sewers, humming cheerfully while explaining why he chose who he choose.

Another cut and... Tim spluttered. How the hell did Danny manage to just walk into Arkam?! So he hadn't seen wrong at the beginning of the video.

Growing paller with every cut on how Danny delivered his self-engineered Glitter bombs, Tim started to fear for his new favorite youtubers safety. Thankfully he had already done his work on Danny's person when he sent the internship offer. Now he just needed to get Danny to freaking safty.

He dragged himself to his laptop still in disbelieve as various clips of the rogues getting glitterbombed from the bombs perspective started playing. And yep, he definitely didn't see wrong now in the beginning. The Joker was one of Danny's chooses victums. Aside from the fact that he was so going to download and save that video for eternity as well as share it with his brothers and friends, (because as funny as it was that most of them were Gotham rogues, Luther and another millionaire by the name of Masters had also been made victims.), he still had to figure out how to ensure this definitely insane youtubers safer from the warmth of 90% of their rogues now.

Great newly discovered favorite youtuber has just painted a big fat red target on himself.

Tim was just about to call everyone in when a bonus at the end of Danny's video started to play.

He recognized that safe house.

He recognizes the weapons displayed on the walls also.

Oh... that's...

Still laughing Tim still sent out a message to everyone. When asked why all he did was sent them the link to the video with to timestamps.

Former U.S. head of Unification Church attended Kishida meeting

A former leader of the Unification Church’s U.S. branch sat in on a meeting in Tokyo in 2019 between future Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich, sources said.

Michael Jenkins visited Kishida, who was the ruling Liberal Democratic Party’s policy chief at the time, with Gingrich at the party’s headquarters on Oct. 4, 2019, the sources said.

Masayoshi Kajikuri, chairman of the Japanese branch of the Universal Peace Federation (UPF), a friendship organization of the church, was also present, the sources said.

Then Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who had close ties with the Unification Church, was initially scheduled to meet with the Gingrich side, government sources said.

But Abe had to deliver a policy speech in the two Diet chambers at the start of an extraordinary Diet session on the day of the meeting, so he asked Kishida to meet Gingrich in his place, they said.

The Asahi Shimbun has obtained a photo that appears to show Jenkins with Kishida, Gingrich and Kajikuri during the meeting.

Jenkins, president of the U.S. branch of the Unification Church between 2000 and 2009, has served as head of UPF International, which oversees UPF branches around the world, since May 2019.

The UPF was established by Sun Myung Moon, founder of the Unification Church, and his wife, Hak Ja Han Moon, the current leader of the religious organization now formally called the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification.

The Asahi Shimbun on Dec. 4 asked Kishida’s office about the 2019 meeting with Jenkins and Kajikuri.

Kishida said through his office: “I met with Gingrich several years ago when I was chairman of the LDP’s Policy Research Council. At the time, he was accompanied by many people, but I am not aware of who was among them.”

Kishida told reporters Dec. 5 that he does not know if individuals related to the Unification Church were present at the meeting with Gingrich.

He added, “My perception has not changed even if there is a photograph.”

Asked if he checked records of meetings and other sources to see if church-related individuals were present, Kishida said he went as far as his side could go, but he did not ask Gingrich to provide information.

Kishida had also told reporters the previous day that as a former foreign minister, he met with Gingrich for a courtesy call. He did not mention Abe’s involvement in that meeting.

Abe was assassinated in July 2022 apparently over his connections with the Unification Church.

Shady ties between the church and several LDP lawmakers have since surfaced.

We often think about how the Moon network played a role in anti-communist efforts that ended up murdering thousands from the 70s into the 80s, but in what ways has the Moon network played a role in post-9/11 international policies around surveillance and security?

We should more deeply examine post-9/11 counterinsurgency work that the UC has taken up, especially consider the millions of deaths that have come out of the so-called “War on Terror.”

A recent study shows that, apart from the million direct casualties of the War(s) on Terror, over 3,000,000 people died from the conditions created by those wars.

How has Moon’s Universal Peace Federation played a role in this, including through the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP), Podgorica Club, South Asia Peace Initiative (SAPI), and other UPF-initiated groups?

We know bits and pieces of how the UC’s organizations have been used for international relations and policies, including in Nepal, the DPRK, the Philippines, a number of Southeastern European countries, etc., in the past decade... but there’s still so much more to be exposed. 

We also know that the Washington Times was used during the Bush years to validate his election win, claims of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, and other claims around foreign governments that have been proven false or were  intentionally released in an effort to support Bush’s administration’s war efforts. We know how often Moonie Bill Gertz played a role in these efforts.

start thinking about the kind of life you want to have and what you're willing to do to make it happen. Change is necessary, and in this world it's becoming imperative to put in extra effort, to go out of our ways, to maintain a healthy happy life.
