going to museums now is less about looking at art and learning new things and more about criticizing the museums themselves which is also very fun and enjoyable. and then sometimes i also get to look at the art and learn new things and feel incredible emotions. but it’s mostly the criticizing the museum and picking out what works and doesn’t

Graphology: The Study of Handwriting
Graphology, the study of handwriting, offers intriguing insights into personality and behavior. I find it fascinating how the way we write can reveal aspects of our character—our emotions, motivations, and even how we interact with the world.
Graphologists analyze various elements of handwriting, including size, slant, pressure, and spacing, to interpret individual traits. While some consider it a pseudoscience, the connection between our writing style and psychological characteristics is an engaging area of exploration.
Understanding graphology can enhance our self-awareness and improve communication. It offers a unique lens through which we can examine ourselves and others, providing insights into human nature that may otherwise remain hidden.

How I improved my writing style... without actually writing.
Intro : It's just a clickbait title to talk about theory and side techniques - before actually practicing, of course.
LINGUISTIC ISN'T GRAMMAR - AND IT'S BETTER TO KNOW ABOUT BOTH. It's useful for writing impactful dialogue and giving your characters depth. Your characters' language should (ideally) take into account: their social position (rich or poor), the locality (local expressions?) and sometimes their age (different cultural references). And this is best transcribed with linguistic knowledge. In short: linguistics is descriptive, grammar is prescriptive.
The areas of linguistic analysis are syntax (rules governing the structure of sentences),  semantics (meaning),  morphology (structure of words), phonetics (speech sounds and equivalent gestures in sign languages), phonology (the abstract sound system of a particular language, and analogous systems of sign languages), and pragmatics (how the context of use contributes to meaning). (Linguistics, Wikipedia)
Literary theory isn't as boring as it sounds. Learn more about internal criteria of the text (figure of speech, style, aesthetic...) and external criteria of the text (the author's persona and responsability, the role of the reader and what is left to interpretation...). I refer you to the French Wikipedia page, which you can translate directly via your browser in case you need more information. (Make sure you translate the page not switch language, because the content isn't the same).
Listening to Youtube Video about the analysis of film sequences and/or scenario. Remember when I told you to read historical fiction to learn how to describe a castle properly ? Same vibe.
Novel adaptations of movies. = when the movie exists before the book, and not the other way around. e.g : The Shape of Water ; Pan's Labyrinth. In line with tip n°3, it allows us to see how emotions, scenes and descriptions have been translated into writing - and thus to better visualize concepts that may have been abstract.
Read books about authors' writing experiences. e.g : Stephen King, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft. Everyone's different, but they can provide some insightful tips not only on the act of writing itself, but on the environment conducive to writing, planning… Comparing completely different authors' experience could also be fun (this video of King and Martin is actually one of my fav)
Ah and many thanks for your ❤ and reblogs on my latest post ! UwU

survival instincts
AWWWW cw; fem bau sunshine!reader, established relationship, playful banter and fluff <3
Patience was a virtue, one you felt as if you exhibited thoroughly. You were easygoing, positive, sensible when it came to others.
So waiting for the local PD to wrap up their analysis of the crime scene would've been fine, if the temperature hadn't been plummeting by the minute.
And you hadn't foolishly left your coat back at the precinct.
Your nose was numbing, you were beginning to shiver in place; the sun wasn't there to provide any supplemental warmth. The clouds were a menacing, gloomy gray that was darkening, with the tiniest bit of gleam coming from behind. In an hour or so, night would be upon you.
You breathed out, watching your breath fan out in a cloud, hoping it would entertain you enough to stop thinking about your growing frigidness. Your gaze furthered past it as it expanded, landing on Aaron and his warm coat.
The visual caused you to think about the earlier morning, warm in the comfort of bed. Laid beside Aaron, enveloped in the weak comforter the hotel had to offer - which didn't matter with the warmth he consistently provided. You would've done anything to go back to the moment. And so, a plan to remedy your problem quickly developed in your mind.
"Aaron." You whisper-yelled, despite the fact he was a mere foot away. His eyes were locked forward, without a doubt ensuring the crime scene wasn't being compromised by the officers poking around.
His brown eyes found yours, "Hm?"
"I'm cold." You whined with a playful pout, your eyes begging for help.
"Then maybe you should've remembered a coat." He teased, hands buried in his coat pockets.
You quipped by use of a cheeky expression in return. You gazed at the asphalt below, the wind whipping your hair around your face. You mumbled a feigned, solemn, "Maybe."
He began prying his coat off his shoulders, "Here, let me-"
"No silly. Then you'll be cold. And we can't have that, can we?" You rolled your eyes, bringing yourself in front of him. You slid your arms around his middle, underneath his coat - thankfully unbuttoned - and embracing him tightly.
The long coat he wore was loose enough to shield your sides, provided mild coverage from the wind, and whatever was left was made up from his body heat. Immediately, you began regaining warmth head to toe.
"Sweetheart, this isn't very convenient." You felt his chuckle rumble through him, gently jostling your head as it rest on his chest. But still his arms wrapped around you, holding you close. "Or professional, given the circumstances."
"This is merely a survival technique." You mumbled insistently into his shirt, a smile tugging at your lips. "Close contact preserves body heat. I'm just doing what it takes to survive. I don't think the Bureau would be very happy if one of their agents froze to death while on the job."
Aaron hummed at the stretch of your proposition. "Well, I think the Bureau would presume their agents would have the intention to bring a coat."
You scoffed lightly, causing him to laugh again. "Well, do you have a better idea?"
"Yeah, you could just wear my-"
"I already told you no. And my supporting evidence," You insisted, your voice laced an almost, mischievous wisdom. "You're just getting over a cold, which won't be returning if there's anything I can do about it. Plus there's a reason I call you a furnace. This, you," You tightened your hold on his as if to prove your point. "Can supply me with more warmth than a coat ever could."
He laughed softly. Again it was leaning more on the rigid side, conscious of any wandering eyes. He did, however, sneak a quick kiss to the top of your head. "If you say so."
You closed your eyes, releasing a content sigh and savoring the warmth, as well as Aaron's contact. One of his hands softly brushed a spot along your back. However, your shared moment of solitude was interrupted by the sound of approaching footsteps.
"Aww, can I join?" Derek gushed, shit-eating grin on his face. JJ had an equally as smug grin as she trailed up from behind him.
You shot him a look, one that read ha-ha funny as well as amused, while Aaron subtly narrowed his eyes. He then turned his head in the opposite direction, his cheek resting against your head comfortably.
"Cuddling on the job, huh? What would Strauss have to say about this?" Morgan continued to tease, and Dave even took out his phone, discreetly snapping a picture.
"He's just doing his job. Looking out for a team member by preventing potential frostbite. Or hypothermia, even." You arched an eyebrow playfully, your fingers clutching onto the fabric of Aaron's shirt underneath his coat. "And there's nothing wrong with that."

Lads men x Reader who's really into horror movies
masterlist
this was a request from a kind anon.
summary: reader who really likes horror movies.
xavier | rafayel | zayne | caleb
sylus x reader | fluff
The room is dim. Just the glow from the projector and the shifting shadows on the walls. You sit forward as the scene plays out, dim lighting, an eerie stillness, then a sharp cut to a reflection. The victim sees themselves on screen seconds before impact. The screen goes black.
You don't react with a gasp or a flinch. Instead, you slap the pause button and spin toward Sylus with wide eyes.
''That. Was. Brilliant.''
He blinks slowly. ''The murder?''
''No!'' you grab the notebook, which is hanging on by one duct-taped corner, and flip it open in your lap. A folded page falls out. A post-it note sticks to your elbow. ''The reflection shot. The timing. The way the character becomes both observer and object. That is pure cinematic horror logic.''
Sylus watches you sift through the avalanche of scribbled diagrams and timestamp notes. ''I thought horror logic was people making bad decisions and tripping on air.''
You snort. ''That's surface-level stuff. I'm talking deep technique. Look,'' you tear out a page and spread it in front of him. ''See how the visual symmetry forces the viewer into complicity? It's not just a kill shot. It's a narrative trick. A loop of helplessness.''
He glances at the mess of arrows and shaky frame stills. ''This looks more like a tactical briefing than film analysis.''
''Same thing, honestly,'' you mutter, eyes still scanning the page. ''Predict the pattern. Anticipate the strike. Horror's just chess with blood.''
That makes Sylus pause. He leans back slightly, staring not at the notebook, but at you.
''…You really mean that.''
You look up, surprised by the softness in his voice. ''Of course I do. Horror is structure wrapped in chaos. You just have to be patient enough to unravel it.''
Sylus gives the smallest huff of breath. It's almost a laugh, which in his language might as well be a full-body chuckle. ''Sounds awfully familiar,'' he mutters under his breath. He glances at the paused screen again, the dim flicker of it reflected in his eyes. ''I never liked horror,'' he admits, still watching the frozen frame. ''Too irrational. People running toward danger. Splitting up for no reason. Poor decisions everywhere.''
You shoot him a grin. ''That's half the fun. The chaos. But that's only on the surface. Good horror has structure. Rhythm. Cause and effect.''
Sylus hums low in his throat. ''So you find logic in disorder.''
''Exactly.'' you point at him, pleased. ''Horror is controlled chaos. Like, okay, jump scares? They only work if you know how to set them up. They're math. Tension beats. Timing. It's practically music.''
He's quiet again, but this time, it's not dismissal. He's processing.
You tap your pen on your notebook. ''You look like you want to disagree.''
''I don't,'' he says, finally. ''I think I just…underestimated how methodical fear can be.''
The way he says it makes you glance at him, really glance. His voice calm, but there's something underneath it, like a wire stretched too tight. He's not just talking about films anymore. He rarely does.
You offer him a soft smile, shifting to sit cross-legged. ''I think that's why I love horror. You can understand fear. Control it. Break it down. It's never just violence. It's always saying something.''
Sylus looks at you, and for a moment, something flickers in his expression. Not surprise. Not amusement. Maybe something closer to…respect.
''I like the way your mind works,'' he says simply.
You blink, and for once, you're the one without words. Your pen slips slightly in your grip. The projector hums in silence.
And Sylus, without ceremony, leans forward to pick up a loose sheet from the floor. He holds it up to the light.
''…You've miswritten the year here. Nosferatu was released in 1922, not 1923.''
You gasp, scandalized. ''Disqualified. You're banned from horror club for nitpicking.''
''You run the club alone.''
''And you were almost vice president.''
A ghost of a smile lingers on his lips, and his eyes stay on you a moment longer before he sets the paper down and says, ''Continue. I'm listening.''
And just like that, your rambling resumes, animated and delighted, while Sylus sits in his quiet stillness, absorbing every word like it's data he never knew he needed.
