Madam Puddifoot’s tearoom wasn’t really Remus’s style, but it was cozy and intimate enough you really had to squint under the dim lights and through the lace curtains around the small round tables to see who else was in there, and that’s exactly what they needed. Him and Sirius weren’t ready to tell anyone apart from Peter and James they were dating, but it was Valentine’s day, and they deserved a romantic date like everyone else after all. So they had slipped into the tearoom and it had taken just one look at them for Madam Puddifoot in person to smile at them and take them to a quiet room with only four other tables. They had sat down on the plushy armchair, Sirius immediately cuddling into Remus’s side and had pored over the menu while the Cupid-shaped decoration hovering over their table played a slowed-down version of Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy. The problems had started when they had opened the lacy curtain to order and they had locked eyes with Peter standing by one of the other tables, halfway through gallantly drawing the chair for his date.

“Look at that Cupid up there, isn’t it adorable?” Peter had quickly said, before drawing back the curtain a bit too late for Sirius and Remus not to see the mass of curly hair behind him.

“Was that…” Sirius blinked as he let their own curtain drop.

“Mary,” Remus nodded. “I did not see that one coming.”

“Sneaky old Wormy,” Sirius chuckled. “So, you were saying vanilla fudge hot chocolate for you, Moony?”

“And a brownie too. With caramel sauce. And ice cream,” Remus added.

“Too sweet for me,” Sirius smiled. “But I’ll try their chili hot chocolate.”

“Too hot for me,” Remus shook his head.

“No, I’m not,” Sirius’s hand dragged him closer by his jumper.

Remus’s hands were buried in Sirius’s hair when a cough came from behind their curtain and they let go of each other to open it and give their order to the server. As Remus was hesitating over the flavour of the ice cream he wanted, Madam Puddifoot walked past their table, guiding another couple to their seats.

“This place is so adorable, I love it!” a voice said.

“I knew you would,” another, very familiar, answered.

Remus’s eyes shot up and he looked at Lily across the room, smiling as she gently coaxed a blonde girl down from the armchair from where she was poking the Cupid over their table. He was able to see the girl close her arms around Lily and kiss her with enthusiasm before their curtain fell close.

“Am I hallucinating or was that Lily?” he asked, looking back at Sirius.

“It was. And with Pandora Rosier, no less,” Sirius nodded. “Now I want to know how that happened.”

Their order came and they got lost in drinking the hot chocolate while sharing the brownie and ice cream (raspberry, in the end), more often than not leaving them aside for kissing when a metallic sound interrupted their Cupid’s slowed-down version of Heroes and a snake-shaped golden bangle rolled under their table.

“Someone’s having rowdier activities than us next door,” Sirius commented, picking it up.

He turned around and moved the curtain aside, right at the same moment when the one behind them moved too, revealing Marlene with her hair mussed up and a smear of lipstick that definitely wasn’t hers on her lips.

“McKinnon,” Sirius smirked.

“If you say one word about this, Black…” Marlene hissed.

“Babe?”

The curtain opened a bit more and Remus found himself looking right at Dorcas Meadowes, her braids all over her face.

“Thank you kindly,” she smiled, leaning over to pick the bangle from Sirius’s hand before closing back the curtain.

“It looks like we all had the same idea for Valentine’s,” Remus chuckled, turning back to his almost finished hot chocolate.

“The girls apparently had an even better one,” Sirius whispered, sliding even closer to Remus.

When the mugs and plates were empty and the only two options left was running back to the dorm or ending up forever banned from Madam Puddifoot’s, they got up to leave. They had only taken a couple of steps towards the door when laughter rolled out from behind the curtain hiding the last table. Sirius froze and Remus cursed internally, promising himself that the following year they would all talk openly about their plans for Valentine’s.

“Let’s go, Pads,” he tried to say, but Sirius was already marching back to the table and snatching the curtain open.

A loud squeak followed and Remus sighed, turning back to where Sirius was staring open-mouthed at his brother sitting in James’s lap.

“Hogsmeade really needs more than one romantic place for dates,” Remus muttered.

Au where everything is the same except instead of Snape hearing the prophecy it's regulus but because he isn't a shitstain(tm), he immediately tells Dumbledore what voldemort plans to do not because he has a massive crush on james BUT BECAUSE KILLING PEOPLE IS WRONG SNIVELLUS!!! ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE ONLY SAVING THEM TO WIN POINTS WITH THE GIRL WHO YOU USED A RACIAL SLUR AGAINST!

Cue various shenanigans where everyone still thinks regulus is evil but he's actually just anxiety ridden gay twink who can't say no and was forced into joining a cult by his parents who is trying his best to keep the love of his life(james), the love of his love's life(lily) and their child alive because he just wants james to be happy whether it is with him or not and if that means betraying a dark lord who literally holds your life in their hands and spying for dollar store Gandalf then so be it!

I’ve read a number of fake dating fics, James and Regulus, Remus and Regulus, Remus and Sirius, but I have never seen a Remus and James fake dating fic and that’s disappointing bc it would be so funny. Sirius and Regulus would loose their minds. The one thing that could unite the Black Brothers is a hatred of James and Remus’ “relationship.”

I’ve been thinking about a Remus (or ig any ship that includes him?) x metamorphmagus!reader who is always turning into other people in order to mess with people. despite them being very good at acting and visually/audibly indistinguishable from their target, once the moon comes close and his senses are heightened Remus is able to recognize them from scent alone. I also think he’s observant enough that even when his senses are as normal as they can be, he is able to notice little ticks and habits that break through the disguise. I don’t think he would ruin their fun, observing and if he isn’t in pain even helping with their mischief.

It’s just such a cute little concept to me, and I think it could be fun to play with, so I would love to see if you can come up with a little Drabble or something about it! Thank you mother ❤️ I love confident and mischievous readers with quiet but enabling characters

“Never thought I’d find myself happier to see this Black than the other one.” Barty Crouch Junior drawled as he sauntered into the library looking innocent for all intents and purposes - but Remus knew better.

“Sod off, Junior.” Sirius sneered back as he glared at the Slytherin from behind his book. 

“Oh, someone’s getting off, I can assure you.” He jeered; a mischievous sparkle shining in his eye giving Remus not nearly enough time to prepare for the coming theatrics. 

“Oh? Could you hear me and your mum last night?” Sirius replied haughtily, turning a page of his book for show. “I’ll try to make sure we’re quieter next time, but she’s a screamer.” 

Barty simply hummed as he dragged a finger across the back of a chair; expression glowing like he was simply loving this. “Are family members not off limits then, Black? Because if that’s the case, someone really ought to tell Reg and Potter that there's no need to be rutting against each other in the third floor broom closet like a couple of ne’er-do-wells.”

Sirius was standing in record time; his chair grating across the floors before landing with a thunk and his book (prop) laying long forgotten.

“You’re not serious.” Sirius spat menacingly, a true testament to how riled up he got over his brother and best friend (even though the two had been publicly dating for almost two months now) that he didn’t even bother censoring himself against the verb form of his name.

“Deadly.” Barty smirked, and that was all it took for Sirius to go racing off into the castle to cause a bigger scene than either Regulus or James had been prior to the announcement of their secret tryst. 

The library returned to its prior volume as Remus watched 'Barty' simply stare after the last place Sirius could be seen. 

“That’s not nice, dove.” Remus chided gently, though he didn’t bother hiding his smirk as he stared back down at his book.

“Whatever do you mean, Lupin?” You sneered back, but you were wearing a beaming smile that told him clearly you knew the ruse was up. 

“James has been trying very hard to make sure he isn’t throwing his relationship with Regulus in Sirius’ face.” Remus explained tiredly, though it was all for show. 

“And James has been making it very hard for me to not want to stab myself with a quill during quidditch practices.” You pouted as you took the seat across from him.

“All this over quidditch drills?” He asked with a raised eyebrow.

You didn’t break his gaze nor the pout of your lips as you added “and he ate the last of my fizzing whizzbees.” 

Remus hummed in understanding. “An egregious crime, certainly.”

“Right? What would you have done if he’d eaten all your chocolate?”

“Nothing short of murder; he’d be out the dormitory window.”

“See, I knew you’d get it.” You replied with a smirk, though your eyes turned soft as you looked him over.

“Be nice to your brother.” He murmured quietly, earning a dramatic groan as you threw your head back in exasperation.

“I don’t have to be nice to him, he’s my brother.” 

“What would your mum say?” He asked as he leaned back in his chair and held his book against his lips to hide the smile on his face.

You groaned again and looked over at him nonplussed. “To be nice to my brother.” You offered back in monotone.

He lowered his book so you could see his beaming smile, causing you to launch forward in an attempt to swipe his book from him only for him to catch your wrist instead.

“How did you even know it was me? I thought I had the impression down pat.” You murmured quietly, face now inches from his.

“You certainly look like Junior.” Remus conceded as he gave you a once over. “But he would have never let that comment about his mum fly.”

You let out a bark of laughter that Remus knew to be only yours. “That’s true, I suppose. I’ll do better next time.”

Remus gave you a shake of his head in faux admonishment as he leaned closer to you. “I’ll always recognise my sweet girl.” He murmured, massaging the inside of your wrist that he was holding captive with his thumb. “I’d recognise you by smell alone.” 

Your gaze turned hungry as your eyes flit down to his lips and then back up again. 

But Remus pulled away before you could connect your lips to his.

“Do not kiss me as Barty Crouch Junior.” He deadpanned, causing you to let out raucous laughter that got you more than a few shush’s from surrounding tables before he watched you melt back into yourself.

Remus loved your mischief, but this was by far his favourite version of you.

thirty minutes until opening, you tied your hair up into a pastel pink ribbon.

the soft and crisp spring air pooled into the shop from the open windows, as you set some fresh flowers at your counter.

“ready for opening, dear?”

“yes, mum!”

you responded.

she had certainly noticed your level of chipperness in the mornings had doubled since you started working there, probably because of the young man she’s seen you conversing with every morning at exactly 7:42 am, which was when he always came in.

unless the boy was sick, or busy he’d be in the shop atleast once a day.

“can’t make coffee to save my life, you know?”

he’d always insist.

you heard the bell on the door chime, alerting you of the first guest.

“hi, welcome in.”

“okay… can i have an iced matcha green tea latte with almond milk?”

The worst memory happened because of he wouldn't leave Lily alone (??? He didn't even talk with her before it started and they were BEST FRIENDS)

James was "provoked" and did it to "protect his girlfriend from the enemy" (the "gf" in question which hated him and refused to date him till their 7th year, and the enemy being her best friend)

Severus physically hit children (only happened in the movies where his character was cut by more then half ☠)

Physically abused Harry for 7 years (girl do you know how to read?)

He was a stalker (??? Mixing him much with the marauders who literally had a map that showed who is where and when? 🤨)

Severus called lily a slvt (what even???l

She said Severus trying to apologize for using the word 'mudblood' is "guilt tripping" (you would've cried over him not apologizing, right? ☠)

Came to attack me for shipping Snupin as if that had anything to do with the convo lol (didn't have anything smart to say ig)

Continued it by saying that Remus was a marauder and that they all hated Snape - also untrue regardless, he was the only one to call him be his name and to feel bad for him, also the only one to not laugh at him at the worst memory.

They said they're 17 yet they're fighting me like a 12 yo ☠

Things I don’t get about the marauders fandom as someone who’s been obsessed with them for literal years

1. How we let so many characters be only children?? like I get that people don’t necessarily want to make OCs but HOW did it get to this? James, Marlene, Peter, Remus, Mary, Barty, Dorcas, Alice, Frank and so many others! Idk maybe it’s just where I’m from but look me in the eyes and tell me you know that many people who don’t have siblings ALSO the ratio is so off and barely any of them have only child energy. It’s just not right.

2. How sooo many of you aren’t multi shippers. Like what do you MEAN you can only see James with Regulus and Regulus with James?? What about bartylus? what about sunrose? what about draksun/sunkiller? what about moonwater? what about jily? what about prongstail? WHAT do you read?? Aren’t you bored??? WHAT DO YOU MEAN you only have ONE ship for each character???? As a multi shipper, I can be convinced of any ship with anything ranging from a real good fic or a pretty edit to an enthusiastic rant from a random person on TikTok and it just makes things interesting. Maybe my adhd brain just needs more ships to focus on or maybe some of you just lack flexibility ( or imagination), but we need to fix this cause there aren’t enough fics with the ships I like 😭😭

3. THE SHIP NAMES. I can’t be the only one who thinks some of these suck right? Like why are we saying jegulus when starchaser and sunseeker are RIGHT THERE?? Same with jily and flowerpot, and bartylus and starkiller. ALSO some names make me wonder if some of you just haven’t grasped the concept of ship names or if I just got it all wrong cause marylily and jegulily are just annoying, why are we keeping the L in Lily? The point is to merge the names together not stick them one beside the other, I just say marily and jeguily because it rolls off the tongue so much more easily

4. The Peter erasure. I just don’t get it, it’s so easy to include him in things, you don’t have to make him a main character, but just mention him every once in awhile. Sometimes I’m reading an important scene in a fic and everyone is mentioned EXCEPT for Peter! It’s so easy, just make him roll his eyes at his friends being idiots or something. And it’s not like you’ll get his personality wrong, ALL THESE CHARACTERS PERSONALITIES WERE MADE UP BY FANS but I understand that some people lack imagination so here’s some things about Peter I like to imagine: he’s a HUGE gossip, like my man sees and hears everything and he takes notes!! He likes to randomly turn into a rat and take a nap in one of the other marauders’ pocket, he does it so much that they had to tell the girls that they had a pet rat cause they were asking too many questions. He’s really perceptive and his friends are all oblivious so it leads to funny scenarios like:

Peter: I thought you guys had been together since third year?

Sirius: I’ve literally introduced you to people I was dating?!

Peter, shrugging: look mate I don’t question you lot anymore, you do whatever you want, I don’t care what you’re into, I just don’t wanna know about it

He also pulls people, like he’s really nice and will gossip to anyone who’s in his vicinity so he’s friends with basically everyone and he’s funny and pretty and he’s got charisma so he just charms everyone and when I say everyone, I mean everyone, even the slytherins have a soft spot for him (that’s how he gets accepted among the death eaters during the war actually). In pranks he’s the lookout so he often has to distract the teachers so he asks them random things and spits out half-made up facts about anything so he’s besties with most of the teachers which means he doesn’t get many detentions.

5. The Black brothers, more specifically the way the speak to each other in most fics, like they call each other “brother” so often and as someone who has a brother I’ve never called him that. Is it an anglophone thing? Like do people who speak English at home all do that or are fic writers only children?? (That would explain my first point actually) Or is it more a rich people thin?? Cause I know it’s not a francophone thing that’s for sure (also special mention to people who don’t know anything about French writing Sirius and Regulus as French speakers, I can tell you don’t know what you’re writing about but I eat it up everytime anyway)

6. This is actually just about ao3 but I WANNA BE ABLE TO LEAVE MORE KUDOS!!! I just loooooove fics but I can’t leave kudos at every single chapter and I’m bad at writing comments so I can’t show the author how much I love their work, I hate itttt 😭

7. Why there aren’t more fics about the Black family, and not just Sirius and Regulus, but Andromeda, Bellatrix and Narcissa as well like that would be so interesting and maybe like a deep dive into the Black family ideals and all that (if you have fic recs I’m all ears!!)

8. How jegulily is a pretty popular ship (which I LOVE) yet SO FEW people ship Regulus and Lily outside of it! They are a power couple and I love them and they don’t need James to work!!!

9. Why there isn’t more background Minnie x Poppy cause they are my mothers and I wanna see them moooooreeee

“If neither of us are married when we’re 25 we’ll get married.” Sirius told Remus.

Remus stuck out his hand for Sirius to shake. “Deal.”

And so Remus vowed to not even be a relationship ship until he was 25. He prayed that Sirius and his unlucky stars would not find a suitor between then and now.

But of course, that didn’t happen. 20 years old, had a year long relationship with a nice lady named Tara. 21, a 2 year long relationship with a man named Joey. 23, he had a 6 month relationship with a man named Ralph. And then he was 24, in the middle of a seemingly perfect relationship.

This girl he was dating, was almost another copy of Sirius. With black hair, and dark eyes, a rockstar personality, Remus knew. Remus knew that he was doomed.

And he knew, on the eve before Remus’s 25th birthday, that he would be without a boyfriend. He knew when Sirius’s girlfriend went into Sirius’s bedroom of their shared flat. He knew when he heard crying. He’d heard crying many nights before, and Remus didn’t really want to know what was happening. Though he did ask one time, and Sirius gave him a smirk and a wink. He never asked again.

And so here he was, sitting on his sofa, watching a rom com with ice-cream as he heard the door open.

What he was not expecting, was Sirius walking out looking tired, and his girlfriend having a red face and puffy eyes.

As he walked past, Sirius gave Remus a small smile before retreating to his room for the rest of the night.

The morning of Remus’s 25th birthday was greeted with Sirius’s smile and a large kiss on his forehead.

“Good morning to you too.” Remus groaned. He stretched, his long arms raised over his head. Remus closed his eyes again, hoping to get a few minutes of shut eye before he had to face the sad day.

Sirius cleared his throat. When Remus opened an eye, Sirius was significantly shorter than he had been moments ago. No, he was on his knees. No, he was on one knee. Sirius was flushed, and his hair was a bit of a mess, but his eyes were bright and so was his smile.

“Remus John Lupin, you’re now twenty five, will you be my husband?” Sirius asked.

Remus gaped at him as he started sputtering, “I- wha-sorry?”

“Unless you have a girlfriend or something, im sorry, I shouldn’t have assumed-“ Sirius rushed.

“No, no. Don’t you have a girlfriend?” Remus asked.

Sirius went red. “I broke up with her last night.” He said.

Remus smiled. “Did you break up with her…so you could ask me to get married?” Remus asked.

Sirius hesitated, then started nodding. “I’m sorry, I just wanted to have you, any way I could. Even if it was just as a secondary husband.”

Remus grinned, dropping down to his own knees to kiss Sirius deeply.

Years later, when they became old and gray, when Sirius recounts the story of how they came to be, Sirius would say, “It all started when I told James my crush, and he gave me an idea…”
