Answering your Questions/Concerns about Free Editing
Thanks for sending in your questions about my free editing service! Here are some of the ones I've gotten so far:
I feel like I’d be taking advantage of you because it’s free:
I don’t like the assumption that I’m a pushover. Okay just kidding, I appreciate this instinct, but you’re not really taking advantage of me given I’m offering the work! I also ask you to trust me that I can set my own boundaries and let you know if the scope of the project is too much for me to take on.
Of course, if you’d really like to give back to me in some way I always accept tips, Instagram follows, or reblogs of my editing post/recommendations to your writing friends, but none are necessary!
Okay but what do you get out of it?
Experience—I can put ‘freelance editor’ on my resume and back it up with examples. I can also log my hours as volunteer hours which will help me get scholarships to pay for my schooling. Lastly, I hope to build strong community bonds with you all and genuinely just want to help out—I’ve been very lucky to have formal training and mentors throughout my writing career, and I hope to provide that to those of you who haven’t had the same opportunities!
Will you look at fanfiction/non-original work?
Of course! As long as it was written by you (and not AI-generated).
How do I know you and I will click style-wise?
I work with writers of all different styles in my regular job, so editing styles that aren’t my own is something I have a lot of experience in. If you’re really worried about it, I will let you know right off the bat if I think I would be a good editor for you or if you should try someone else.
What if you hate my work?
I won’t tell you, and I can still do my job as an editor to improve it without tearing it apart. I believe good editors can take any piece of writing and see its values and what it’s doing well in addition to its flaws. My job is to bring out what’s already working in your piece. Essentially, I promise I won’t be mean to you or your work no matter what I think about it.
Can you help me get published?
I can certainly help guide you through starting the process, but I’m not an agent and can’t reach out to anyone for you. However, if you’d like to send me proposals or queries to look at, I’m happy to edit those as well!
Can you help promote my work/blog?
I’m happy to reblog or share any of your projects or writing that I’ve helped you out with, for sure!
What if my work isn’t good enough?
No judgement here! I’m happy to look at your first draft, your final draft, and every draft in between. The whole point of editing and getting another set of eyes on your work is to improve it, so send me anything, no matter what state it’s in!
Check out the guidelines here:

I have many critiques on Keeper of the Lost Cities. Don’t get me wrong, I love it as a series. But like any series, there are both obvious and unobvious flaws. Since I finally have a place online to talk about them I thought I’d share my thoughts! (Disclaimer: this is not bashing on Shannon Messenger or the series in any way!)
1. Too many protagonists
The series was fairly okay with the original gang in the earlier books. That group being Sophie, Keefe, Fitz, Biana, and Dex. There was a chance to connect with all of the characters and grow on each of them. I know I know, characters like Biana and Dex were still pushed aside a bit but they had a better chance at being involved again. But then only more and more protagonists joined. Adding Tam and Linh was iffy, but fine. Then you add Marella, Maruca, Wylie, Stina, all those people. We don’t have a chance to connect with the characters.
2. Obvious favoritism
A few people have pointed this out already, and I thought I’d do the same. Shannon has very clear favorites of the series - which is fine, don’t get me wrong. But sometimes it’s used a little too much. Keefe is a very obvious favorite. We constantly focus on him and his story. At this point, Sophie AND Keefe are the protagonists. I love Keefe, but I want to learn about the injustices and discrimination of Bad Matches from Dex. I want to learn about the expectations of being a Vacker from Fitz and Biana. See what I’m saying?
3. Little plots abandoned
I feel like there have been so many times where Shannon starts this little idea and then throws it away. If you reread the books, you seem to find so many instances where there’s something, and then it’s just abandoned. For example, Magnate Leto (Forkle) says in I think Exile how he doesn’t have a wife and he seems quite sad about it. Or the time in…Flashback I believe where we meet Tinker. Tinker is such an interesting character. She freaks out when Forkle talks about explosives and he said that he wouldn’t make her build them - ‘not again’. HUH? And we’ve gotten no more out of it.
4. Overly focused on romance
Probably my biggest pet peeve with the series is that it is so so focused on romance. Having romance in the series is fine but there’s so much. I feel like Sophie barely even has any character left. You can tell that Shannon was just really excited to write the romantic relationships because even in the first book (WHEN SHES TWELVE) there are already intense moments. And the biggest thing is that characters like Keefe and Fitz (the love interests) are so much more important than characters like Biana and Dex (the friends). It’s a weird thing because Sophie should be apart of both groups but there’s just a weird focus on the guys that she’s into.
5. Lack of diversity
This is something that I think should just be improved in general. Most of the protagonists are very stereotypical and don’t have any diversity. Most of the main characters are white - which is fine but when it gets to be that ALL of the protagonists are, it just gets a little…you know? I mean, Tam, Linh, and Wylie are not white but they’re also not focused on at all in the series. It’s one of the reasons why people headcanon the Vackers to be POC so much. There’s also no LGBTQ+ characters - which again, fine for the most part but also…people of the queer community are incredibly common and the KOTLC characters seem so…not straight. So the fact that it’s been like ten books and there hasn’t been anything is just a little eh. Same with mental health, or physical abilities. Just a lack of diversity.
I love this series a lot, but like anything, it can always improve. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

SOUL EATER ICEBERG LAYER 1 INTRO
Well it's not much but it's honest work:
I had to use that bitchute shit cause youtube fucked me over with copyright - and I ain't putting no stock music or video game ost - cause I might not have a lot of self-respect, but just enough to not be some "proffesional youtuber" - fuck that shit.
But yeah, in the end, this is more of an experiment figuring out stuff - I now know that, no, mumbling my thoughts of the dome without many retakes is not the best, and that yeah splitting things into smaller parts is better - anyways as proof that this is just an intro, I'll just show how many entries the next few layers have:
So yeah, I get it's disapointing to deliver this little after all the time, but atleast know I got a better look at what is needed to get this job done - the plan is to go layer by layer till the work is done as they say.
At first planed to do two layers for this cause they are so short, but with all the holiday stress sadly I'm to busy to deliver in time without just crashing and burning - that's why I'm also posting this now - cause this is not good enough for a Christmas present lol - but maybe atleast as the pre-festivities gift you get from your coworker when the office HR staff makes you swap gifts.
Anyways, for those who don't get anything to the rambling, mumbling and general incoherence of the video and audio - yeah...sorry
(Also will probably not be active on tumblr still, maybe just reply to some messages, but if need me write me an email at

Y'know, if Micah's canon series ever comes to be well known, I can easily imagine that Phobos would be labelled as the " evil alter " or the alter who is " the most flawed " of the Starwake System by majority of the fandom, when, in fact, Philos and Phoebus are not that great either, but their flaws aren't just as obvious as Phobos'.
Given that Phobos is known to be a lot more rough and reactive while it tends to rely on violence than Phoebus and Philos, this fact paints Phobos as it having flaws that are " more prominent " than the two mentioned alters to an individual's eyes, though this is only due to most of its flaws being what can be perceived easier, whereas what Phoebus and Philos have are less noticeable when their flaws are generally more psyche and verbal based than physical. Phobos is an alter with traits prominently taken after various of abusers who Micah had met in their childhood when they moved between foster homes across America, as well as most memories it carry have to do with violence and experiences made by other people that could have gotten Micah harmed or rarely killed.
While DID is generally considered to be a covert condition when most alters would blend with the Host in order to not stand out and place the system in potential dangers, along with Philos in a smaller degree, Phobos is not as overt as the other alters to those outside of the system because it firmly believes that if it keeps its words and actions to itself instead of bringing them to their threats, then the system would most likely be harmed or killed, so, Phobos wants to stand out in order to make people fear it and the system. Of course, going back to what it can recall and the traits it carry from Micah's abusers, being ill-tempered and violent are what it can at least be because it doesn't really know what kindness is supposed to mean and also its belief that the world is so full of cruel people who the system can not trust. Being kind and considerate to alters and those outside the system isn't part of Phobos' responsibilities, nor is it something that it is familiar with.
When it comes to Philos, even though Philos is usually seen to be highly friendly, cheerful, and understanding; they are also extremely pretentious and manipulative while they lie a lot. It's quite difficult to be able to tell if Philos is being genuine or not when they are highly skilled at going along with the flow and coming up with ideas or evidence in sudden / unexpected cases. Created as a social alter, she has to be the one to be proficient at communication in order to get through social events and common settings that emphasize on social interactions, such as a school or a workplace, especially during a long period of time when Micah can not. With this role, she is an expert at reading people and keeping tabs of them with everything from their attributes, skills, background, so forth. She knows best with what can make her the most compatible with the individual she interacts with and how she should say and act to get by a variety of situations, including the uncomfortable and / or dangerous ones.
Though because Philos have to change himself constantly, making from biggest to smallest details, in order to fit in or help him / the system pass a particular incident, he ends up heavily relying on the acts of lying and manipulating. While Philos are RARELY like this to his system associates, doing so mainly because either he doesn't want to be in trouble with any of the alters ( especially Phoebus ) when he hates being scolded at and being (in)directly told he is at the fault, or he's doing it with a genuine intention to try protecting them, he still manipulate and lie a lot more to individuals outside of the system and it's something he will never admit unless he's forced by the other alter(s) to or he's being excessively confronted about it by the individual(s) he manipulate / lie to.
Now with Phoebus, their flaws are a bit more complicated than Philos' and Phobos'. Of course, keep in mind, what ALL of these alters have that may appear fully wrong to the eyes of an individual outside the system when in their own beliefs + mindsets and based on their own experiences + memories, they heavily rely on these unhealthy methods to guide / strengthen / protect the system; a lot of Phoebus' flaws most emphasize on the idea of helping the system. Their overly strictness and protectiveness in the system are what bring harm to not just those outside of the system, but also their system mates as well. Remember, Phoebus was the first alter to be formed a week after Micah became five years ago in order to pull Micah away from their rebellious and self-destructive attitude while helping bear most negative experiences from their abusive foster families, so, while Phoebus would learn and witness so much about the world and people in it by being constantly co-conscious with Micah, they have been with Micah in the majority of their life and they know how life itself goes, more longer and much more than the other alters.
Therefore, Phoebus believe what they do and say for Micah and their system is the most efficient, comparing with Philos' and Phobos'. A therapist would say that Phoebus being the one to front when they are least needed or Phoebus being the one to place their goals and intentions over the other alters', including Micah's, are a few ways of showing that Phoebus holds very little to no trust towards their system mates, which is damaging to the system as a whole when there is lack of trust and communication between the alters. Phoebus is more reserved than and, surprisingly, the most unpredictable comparing with Philos and Phobos. While Philos fight with words and Phobos fight with actions, Phoebus can do so with both just as efficiently, but while they seem more knowledgable and wise, they are not any more stable or " right " than the other two.
Of course, while the original canon timeline proceeds, along with Micah, all of the other system members, especially the three alters in question, will go through their character developments. They will get the professional support they all need and have to get in order to build and strengthen solid and meaningful connections between them; and they will help and love each other through healthier methods and mindsets. With Micah getting the official diagnosis and confirmation that they have DID in the beginning of the original canon, after being misdiagnosed three times and they were harshly told at the final time that DID wasn't real, they will be in denial and attempt to push the other alters away, but they will eventually come to terms with what they have and accept their system mates. This system would go through a lot of hardships from each other, but everyone in the system would make their meaningful personal growths and find better ways of living with each other through harmony in the end.

https://www.tumblr.com/bigmammallama5/732632789726478336?source=share do you have any tips on how to detect ai and deepfakes?
Good question and I'm gonna be honest, it's not always easy and it will only get harder and harder.
I'm just an artist who has spent their personal time to dive into this topic and study images. I'm still learning and there is a lot I don't know. But let me show what I know.
This will be long, but I will make a summary at the end!
So far, even with ai having become better and better there are still almost always some things wrong with an image, and they all have a very specific look to them.
So let me try to show you some and point out some of them.
As we all know, a biggest struggle ai had were hands. And even though here and there we still see messed up hands, I say "had", because the hands is actual a good example on how ai is improving and will only get better.
Still, looking at pictures that show more hands is always worth it, because somewhere in the back there will be most likely at least one messed up hand.
Another issue a lot of ai still has is hair though!
It's very obvious still in many ai "drawings" and in those otherwise well rendered portraits. Hair starts to blend with the ears a lot, or with the clothes.
There is also often this very odd look between something too sharp and way too blurry
There is often a very specific texture to the hair. I actually do not know the artistic or specific name for it. I can only describe it as this weird sharp feeling that makes it look oddly pixely, and then you have areas where it's very blurry.
And the kind of loops and almost flame like looking hair we see in the last pic out of the three here is also something very common with ai.
As an artist I know we make mistakes too! The way I draw hair is flawed too! But it's not only that it's flawed here, but it's following always the same pattern and falls into the same issues over and over again, no matter who is "creating" the image. Those flame like loops are a common one, next to the odd blends and weird sharp and blurry textures.
But ai is getting better, and we not only have "art" and something that tries to be a drawing/painting, but photos too.
A lot of those "photos" have a very specific texture and look to them! Again, it's not always the mistakes, but the very specific optic too.
A lot of the images are oddly smooth, too rendered, with always blurry backgrounds.
And when you look closer at the background you will see the mistakes! The crowd behind Jesus is a hot mess once you look closer. Bob Marley's hair has the same issue than I described before. Lincoln is surrounded by people with messed up hands and don't even get me started on the faces behind Caesar.
So a lot of ai images look alright on a first and quick glance, but as more time you spend with them, as more mistakes you will notice. The wehre is Waldo of ai horror.
And those "photos" shared here are still very obvious. Not just the mistakes and messed up details but the very specific aesthetic too.
Those images get better and better and as less details you have, as less mistakes you have!
With photos like this it becomes harder and harder. There are not many details and no hands. Not many mistakes can be made. Also the very obvious plastic looking smoothness isn't so much here anymore. It kinda still is...but differently. And always the blurry background!!
Sometimes the hair is still a giveaway.
Collars and clothe straps are also often still a giveaway upon close look. As is jewelry. Earrings will be different and necklaces often don't go all the way around, just end, or blend with the hair or clothes.
Often details on jewelry is also blurry and not shown properly.
This is a trick with many details. With jewelry, batches, hair, ears, text. So it's often blurred out and not shown properly because ai doesn't know what to really show here.
It's often really just the small details and when we scroll down quickly we will miss them. Like the wedding ring on the middle finger, the pens on top of a closed pocket, the batches that are always blurry, messed up faces that blend with a blurry background.
And sometimes it's so subtle that I could only really tell that right is the ai image in comparison to the real photo on the left.
The real photo shows hands clearly and even when things are blurred out it doesn't feel that it's done to hide things. The ai image on the right hides the hands. There is also a very dead look in the eyes :D
And here I could only tell because the text in the back doesn't make sense. Even blurred out we should be able to make out something here
And after seeing a lot of ai images I recognize the kind of blurred out bg in combination with a very smooth and well rendered foreground/characters.
And here the only giveaway is a closer look at the backgrounds as well
To summarize it:
Ai and fake news rely on a fast living world. We are being bombarded with tons of information and messages daily and we scroll past quickly.
But the best tool, for now, in detecting ai is taking our time! Those images get better and better but so far there are still always some things off!! Especially in the background!
Hair. Often weirdly smoothed out and oddly sharp at the same time
Hair often blends with the ears or the clothes
Details are blurred out.
Jewelry doesn't match (example earrings). Details on metal often blurred out and never shown. Necklaces blend with hair or the clothes, and don't go around the neck.
Background is always blurred out.
In this blurred mess there are often hidden very messed up faces and/or hands.
A very specific smooth and yet too sharp/too rendered aesthetic combines with an always blurry bg.
Text, especialyl in the background, is not legible and doesn't make sense.
Backgrounds are often (so far) the dead giveaway. Somewhere in the back things become muddled and messed up.
This shows also very well in ai decor/architecture.
There will be odd lines that don't align or align too well. Curtain poles that end in the furniture, a plant that is behind a lamp suddenly having leaves in front of the lamp.
As longer you look as more you will notice.
Conclusion:
Take your time with images! Sit with them! Especially when it's framed as important and political news. Is it ai and propaganda, or did it really happen?
Don't fall for the quick buzz and outrage! Some things are obvious right away but with others you have to take your time. And it's time you have!
If you are still unsure if a pic is real or not, do some research on top. Image reverse search. Can you find it anywhere else? Are other news outlets sharing it? Does the image/message make sense? For example there is now a deepfake of Bella Hadid voicing support for Israel. Ask yourself, does this make sense? If it feels out of line compared to previous behavior, do some research!
Media literacy is not just as being able to recognize a fake or real right away, but being able to do research. To question things! Don't just take every post online for face value. Even when shared by a mutual you trust. They might have been tricked!
There are so many information online and it's great to have access to so information, but it's also difficult to wade through all of it. Media and truth are a weapon and it's being twisted and bend used to manipulate. Always has! But ai and so many people being able to post and share things, it becomes bigger and bigger and more dangerous.
So don't just take everything that is handed to you and share it further no questions asked.
Media literacy and being able to think for ourselves and do the research is important!! And as research becomes harder and harder, as sources are being messed up with ai and other fake news, it's even more important to sit with the images and study them. See the flaws, the mistakes. Compare it to other news and images.
This got long, and I started to ramble at the end.
Sorry
But I hope this helped
