Change

Isn’t it funny? You get used to one thing, and change is the last thing on your mind. You dig your feet into the ground, sprout leaves, and wait for...nothing? Or at least, you’d wait for the loan you took out to eventually go away. 

But sometimes life doesn’t work like that. A family home, a job, a lifestyle - all have reasons to change. Life itself is an ever-evolving mess of circumstances that will push you around like a sapling in a storm, so don’t be surprised. At least...try not to be. 

There is an element of sadness in change. Everything is going to be different. The white walls in your memory are yellow with years of living and happiness, but soon, they’ll be a pale blue. The doorframe with marks on it - the ones with the names - is a dark mahogany now, instead of oak. The mountains outside are still your mountains, but they’ll be the east face instead?

Speaking of angles, change is full of them. Change can be sharp and painful, but looking at it from a different side is always valuable. New insights and observations - the very things that make thoughts grow. Being in one place is good if you finally feel stable enough to trust yourself, but when you become rooted in one place for too long, life becomes overgrown. Your airy canopy becomes an umbrella, becomes a shield, becomes a wall.

One step out of your comfort zone will remind you that you are small, yes. But it also reminds you of the world outside your own, full of experiences and people different than you. So many things can go wrong, true. But don’t forget the vast number of things that could go right.
