Blaze x Omega headcanons

Omega's used to using his dictionary banks to flex but when Blaze unironically uses the word "ignoramus" to describe Eggman he falls in love right then and there.

They love competing, and I mean LOVE competing. Omega is, y'know, and Blaze is a competitive motherfucker who normally doesn't get to jeer or taunt at her opponents but with Omega she knows she can never go to far. They shit-talk each other the entire time. It's one of their love languages I promise.

(When they have to hide their relationship they disguise themselves as Shonen-style rivals lol)

Blaze can bend the flames from Omega's flamethrowers to make them more powerful. It's easier for her to intensify his flames than it is to crank up her own flames to that level, so it's a fantastic combo.

Omega! is! so! interested! in how her flames work!!! He's taking all sorts of measurements all of the time and encouraging her to test out her limits in a way she never was before. "YOU CAN PRODUCE FLAME FROM YOUR PALMS, BUT CAN YOU EXHALE THEM FROM YOUR MOUTH? WHAT ABOUT SHOOTING THEM LIKE LASERS FROM YOUR EYES?"

(After a lot of practice and encouragement, she figured out how to breathe fire like a dragon and he thought it was the coolest fucking thing!!)

She loves hearing her after-battle stats from him. It's another one of their love languages <3

And off the battlefield, she just really enjoys his attention to detail. There's so many small things that he catches on a day-to-day basis. "THIS IS THE THIRD TIME YOU HAVE TRIED THIS BLEND OF TEA" or "TOGETHER WE HAVE KNIT 3,687 STITCHES ACROSS ALL OUR PROJECTS THUS FAR."

She, meanwhile, isn't quite as vocal or exact with her attention to detail. Mostly, she likes giving gifts, but only on the down low. She'll leave his favorite brand of polish on his desk for him to use, even though he normally insists that he "HAS NO PREFERENCE". She'll grab a pretty rock that he found but refused to take with him because he has "AN IMAGE TO MAINTAIN" and sneak it to him after the mission.

Rouge opens the closet in Omega's room because she's trying to find the vacuum and out spills a veritable shrine of little trinkets and doodads he's collected from Blaze. Action figures and collectable keychains in the shapes of tanks or missiles and all of the other things that catch his attention but that he'd never buy for himself because he "DOESN'T NEED IT".

I know I've been writing fluffy headcanons about what they like about each other, but do not get me wrong- they are terrible at saying out loud what they love in each other. They don't verbalize it very often. It's more of a comfortable silence between them.

Okay I lied about the silence part- there's a LOT of infodumping in this relationship. Blaze knows so much more about weapons than she expected and Omega knows more about tea and her favorite books than he knows what to do with. Love language :)

They don't dance but they do spar with enough accuracy and artistry that it's an art form in and of itself.

They cannot stand each other's taste in movies.

But they are willing to exchange music recommends to get outside of their comfort zones. Blaze has discovered that screaming along with Linkin Park is oddly therapeutic. Omega has discovered that Sol jazz has all sorts of funky time signatures that are fun to decipher, even if it is a little slow for his tastes.

Y'know, it's so funny to me when people make out like Tim Drake would keep files on how to take down his friends when Tim has explicitly said he disagrees with Batman on this:

Like, yes, during his Red Robin tenure he does make a Hit List full of contingency plans for known heroes. But if you go and read that, you'll notice that, while the Justice League and Damian may be on there, Tim's own friends are decidedly absent:

In fact, a lot of these heroes are people that have either (a) attacked Tim specifically, (b) have a track record that includes turning evil/getting mind controlled, or (c) are on the JLA (meaning Batman probably already had those files compiled and Tim just stole them).

So yeah: Tim's not down with contingency-planning for his friends. You know which one of the YJ crew DID agree with Batman though? My favorite blorbina Anita Fite, aka Empress:

But yeah, this contrast is honestly fascinating to me. Because while both Anita and Tim have been shown to be incredibly loyal individuals, this exchange really highlights the fact that, between the two of them, Anita is far more likely to engage in this kind of pragmatism when she thinks it's necessary to get the job done

The whole Our Worlds at War arc actually does a really good job of illustrating how both of them react to betrayal from within. It's not just the Batman Files conflict either -- I'm thinking specifically about the hallucination-based torture Granny Goodness put them through, which showed them their worst fears. Most of the team ended up having to watch their loved ones die, but what's super interesting to me is that we really only see Anita and Tim hallucinate that their loved ones blame them for their deaths:

Like. It's not the same as a teammate turning evil at all. But it does give us a good idea of how they'd both react when faced with a friend or teammate doing harmful things, albeit on a smaller scale. Because where Tim kind of just accepts Superboy yelling at him and moves straight into bargaining for Kon's life, Anita actually flips the script, gets angry, and defends herself against her father:

(she actually gets so righteously pissed off that she manages to break out of the VR simulation Granny Goodness had her trapped in, but that's another point)

But yeah, it's super interesting, because by this point, both Anita and Tim have been set up to be very similar characters. They both can be a little bit obsessive, they both have some issues with boundaries and stalking (Tim with Nightwing and Batman, Anita with Cissie), and of the team, they're both portrayed as the "normal" members (Anita does technically have mind control powers but she barely ever uses them, and in a fight, she's basically just a very good, human-level fighter)

But at the end of the day, though Batman forces Robin to put on a cool front of objectivity, Tim (at least in his pre-grief-spiral era) ultimately wants to see the best in his team. When the people he cares about screw up, he wants to give them second chances. And when that trust gets broken, his first instinct is to try to use diplomacy, or, failing that, simply remove himself from the situation (as we see at the end of the Our Worlds at War arc when he quits the team)

Anita, on the other hand, while still incredibly loyal, does not hand out that loyalty unconditionally. We see this when she tries to keep her identity secret from the YJ squad, we see it when she gets pissed in Granny Goodness's hallucination when her father blames her for her mother's death, and we see it when she later blames Secret for her perceived role in Anita's father's death

Anita also happens to sit right smack dab in the middle of the YJ morality scale; while she's generally pretty chill and willing to abide by typical superhero codes of ethics (unlike Slobo and Secret), she's also been shown to bend those rules when she believes it's necessary (as seen here when she tortures and threatens to kill a man for trying to hurt Cissie). Ultimately, what this means is, between Tim and Anita, it's honestly Anita who'd probably be the most willing to put her personal qualms aside, buckle down, and go against her loved ones if it was the only reasonable option

Anyway. This is a really long-winded way of saying I think Gun Batman's biggest nemesis should be Empress

"Stillborn? No, still born" Danyal au -- VLAD MASTERS THE BITCH HIMSELF

*Points at Vlad* THIS MFER GOT SOME TEEFS TO HIM. !! Okay okay, Vlad Masters in the stillborn au is different compared to most of my other aus in the fact that I am far more heavily leaning into his original ambitions of wanting a family and being desperately lonely. Because you know what wanting a family implies? Wanting to be a parent.

Fucked up father figure that could've been Vlad. Complicated love-hate relationship between the only two halfas in existence.

Danny hates Vlad, but he hates even more that he's genuinely considered his offers of mentorship. Vlad is the only halfa around, and they both have fire cores. Danny has these powers he doesn't understand, can barely comprehend some days, and can't control. But Vlad does. Vlad can. And Vlad wants to help him. He's the only other person who can get close whenever Danny runs too hot. Whenever his igneous hair cracks, splits, and spits back out into magma and his friends can't get close, Vlad can.

His hair is made of magma, which runs so hot that people need specialized suits in order to get near it. He physically cannot get close to the living as a ghost unless he's calm enough for his hair to cool into igneous rock. Which isn't as often as he would like. And sometimes he's too hot for other ghosts to get near unless they have fire cores -- which Vlad has.

There have been many times when Danny's having a meltdown (literally) and gone somewhere to be alone, to let his anger and hurt and loneliness overflow and spill out, that when he's come back to, Vlad's right there with him as an anchor. It's desperately frustrating, it's the only time they can get along. They don't say anything, Danny just turns and clings onto the only person he can touch as a ghost.

Its not fair. Vlad wants to kill his foster dad, and Danny can't let him do that. But he wants to be trained by the man, he wants his help and wants what he can offer. But Vlad can't step away from his revenge long enough to let him. It's just not fair. He thinks for a moment that maybe it could work, and then Vlad does something to remind him that no, it can't.

Vlad Masters sees too much of himself in Daniel Brown -- from the way he holds himself, to the defenses he puts up, his quiet anger that builds and builds and builds until it explodes. That simmers beneath his skin. All the way down to the fact that they have matching cores. This boy is cut from the same cloth as him, and by god does he want to help him. He's always wanted to be a father, and Daniel Brown is too much like him for him to ignore. He genuinely, truly cares about Danny and his wellbeing.

He wants to help him, child just let him help you. Let him kill your foster dad so he can adopt you himself and help with these powers that terrify and intrigue you -- he knows what that's like to have something that you can't control, to have a heat that you can't cool down from. "We're in the same boat you and I, let him help you please."

But his methods are all wrong, and Danny is too much like him -- stubbornness and all -- for him to agree when they oppose each other so greatly. But again, Danny is much like him -- which means that Vlad is equally stubborn, and in every single one of their fights he's parental. He's annoyingly parental. He drops his interest in Maddie to focus his efforts in trying to coax Danny onto his side. It's like trying to get a traumatized cat to trust you, and on some levels it works. It's like he makes some progress, and then moves too quickly and the cat immediately runs off and you have to start back from square one.

TL:DR; Vlad and Danny both want to find family in each other but they're too different to get along and ultimately they are doomed by the narrative to be at constant odds with one another unless one of them is changes, and it doesn't matter who.
