Saw a reddit post today about a girl who was upset that her childhood best friend replaced a photo of the two of them in his wallet with one of him and his girlfriend. And while yeah, she was being unreasonable with a lot of what she was saying, I totally understand the sadness of a friend "replacing" you with someone they have romantic feelings for. Makes it worse when the top comment is this
Tumblr media
Every single comment on this post is about how family and romantic relationships always take precedence over friendships. I don't have anything more to say to this aside from the fact that... this is why it's hard for aroaces to imagine futures for themselves. Society drills it into your head that you're going to live in a world where you are no one's priority if you don't have romantic relationships and it fucking sucks

Honestly this is exactly what I need
I need more aromantic characters.
I want young aros figuring themselves out, I want middle aged and older people who are just understanding what they've been feeling their whole life, I want married people realising why they've always felt different.
I want allosexual aros in stable relationships on their own terms, I want allosexual aros who sleep around and leave broken hearts behind, I want allosexual aros who are always transparent and kind about their intentions.
There are so many ways to portray the identity, and the weird thing is I feel like characters who are allosexual and aromantic exist all around, but the writers either don't realise or don't admit that's what they've written (looking at you, Stuart from Queer as Folk UK).

Well it's a good thing I'm not talking about the gay community only I'm talking about the whole LGBTQIA + community.
I agree being gay is not abnormal however it is still different from the hetronotmative idea of how relationships should be.
It's also kind of funny how you're using the exact same words that are used to hurt gay/bi people against other identities just because YOU don't understand them.
Aroace people aren't "sexless freak children" there is such a variety of identities within the aroace spec so go learn about that before speaking. Also it seems like you don't know this but there are many aroace people who are adults. Not feeling sexual/romantic attraction isn't a children thing.
"Aro/aces aren't part of the lgbtq+ community , they don't face any oppression "
The LGBTQIA+ community is for people who deviate from the cishetnorm. Its for people that don't fit the image of liking the opposite gender sexually and romantically, while identifying as their AGAB.
Aros and aces don't fit into the ideal hetronormative identity therfore THEY ARE PART OF THE COMMUNITY

Literally!!
Theres a dynamic that's been bothering me for a while now where a character will literally say that they're not interested in relationships or something to that affect, usually multiple times over, and fandom will completely ignore that and ship them anyway. Even though they literally described being aroace perfectly, it doesn't matter 'cause they didn't use the words.
If you try to assert yourself even for a second and tell them you're erasing an aroace character they'll either dismissively say "that's your opinion," say "I totally agree that character is ace, not aro though or how would I go about my precious shipping?" or go on a tirade about how you're homophobic 'cause they hc the canonically aroace character as gay.
And sometimes, fandom doesn't need to do anything, 'cause the creator will engage in aphobic tropes, usually "they were just lying" or "they were just repressed", in order to "fix" said characters orientation, and instead of kicking up a fuss about erasure like they would with literally any other orientation, fandom accepts it 'cause they're free to ship now.

Normalize wanting to gaze at someone because they're mesmerizing. That something about them clicks in your brain that's soothing. Or calming. Appreciative in a way that isn't an "I want to fuck you" way but a "you bring me joy" kind of way.

My friends kept saying how exciting it is to find your label and discover things about yourself and I just didn't get it for a long time but now I do and they were so right, it feels amazing to understand myself this way

any mention of black lives matter has disappeared off my dashboard so i thought y'all might want to know that police stormed a peaceful vigil in memory of elijah mcclain, attacking mourners with pepper spray. families were there. children were affected. this movement isnt over just because it鈥檚 no longer trendy.
