🦇 A Thought About the Boys in Batman (1940) #250 and Batman and Robin (2023), #21–22
While I was reading chapters 21 and 22 of Batman and Robin (2023), I suddenly remembered a very old comic:
Batman (1940) #250
Of course, the characters aren't the same, and there's no official connection or direct inspiration — they're from different contexts, decades apart, and completely different storytelling styles.
But still…
something struck me.
In the classic 1973 story, a group of boys (apparently street kids) are at a camp (organized by Bruce Wayne), telling legends about the *“real”* Batman.
Tumblr media
Each one has their own version of the hero — some see him as a tech-driven vigilante, others as a near-mythical figure.
Tumblr media
And when Bruce Wayne, who was there with them, reveals himself to be Batman with a dramatic leap from the darkness… no one believes him.
Tumblr media
(Of course not — he's Brucie bitch Wayne, after all.)
To those kids, Bruce was just the adult in charge — he *couldn't* be the Dark Knight.
Now, in contrast, we see the boys from Batman and Robin (2023) — nicknamed the “Gotham Irregulars” by Batman.
Tumblr media
They’re kids living on the streets of Gotham, and they have a direct, raw, and very real relationship with Batman.
They *know* he exists. Most of them have interacted with him.
Not as a legend — but as someone who shows up with food, care packages, someone who checks in to see if they’re okay.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I also found it funny how Batman apparently just let them keep the wallets they stole — so casually.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which, honestly, I thought was very nice. V●ᴥ●V
They know Batman as a real person — but they have no idea who Bruce Wayne is.
(Unlike the boys in the 1940 comic.)
And that’s when I started to imagine:
What if those two groups were one and the same?
What if the “Irregulars” lived with both sides of the same man — the “Brucie Wayne”and the “Batman”?
Batman would be the one who emerges from the dark, bringing blankets on cold nights, scaring off anyone who threatens the kids, making sure they have a place to sleep.
Brucie Wayne, on the other hand, would be the one who shows up smiling during the day, bringing toys? Electronics? Taking the kids on little outings, asking how they’re doing — with the gentle care of a mother disguised as a distracted billionaire.
The beauty of it lies in this double perception:
To the boys at the camp, Batman is legend, and Bruce Wayne is *just a man*.To the kids on the street, Batman is real, and Bruce Wayne is just a name they’ve seen in the headlines.
And maybe, in both cases, what these children never see — or never *believe* — is that both sides are the same man.
That idea really caught me off guard. Even though I know it wasn’t the writers’ intention,
(I have almost zero hope that these boys will show up again in any future comic)
But anyway...Maybe I’m just giving inspiration to some AO3 writer out there?ʕ ꈍᴥꈍʔ

Robin Vermelho #24-25

You know, I actually spent about 30 minutes staring at these pages thinking about the catastrophic consequences if this “plan” had actually worked.
It wasn't cool, it wasn't cool at all 💀
Really grateful (for the first time in my life) to DC for having the good sense not to pursue THIS story.
He's a teenager. A teenager.💀
(Maybe I'm just still in shock from reading this but oh my god?!)

In this scene, Batman explains that every ally who has trained with him has gone through a process, not just to become a "sidekick," but to determine what they will ultimately become. He emphasizes that this training shapes heroes—but also villains
The most striking part of the conversation is when Batman is asked if he's referring to Jason Todd. Instead of confirming, he says: "No. Someone… else." This deliberate vagueness suggests:
Batman trained someone who became a villain.
This person is not Jason Todd.
Batman does not want to discuss it.
When he immediately shifts the focus, saying "It doesn’t matter. Look at the colors.", it feels like an intentional attempt to change the subject. He redirects attention to his allies and their colors, avoiding further discussion about this unknown figure.
The Connection to Ghost-Maker and Bruce’s Past?
If we consider this dialogue in the context of Batman’s past, it’s possible that this reference to a trained villain ties back to his early years traveling the world. Recent comics introduced Ghost-Maker, a fellow student and rival who trained alongside Bruce.
What if, during their time traveling and learning together, they found a child?
Bruce and Ghost-Maker were training around the world, seeking mastery in various discipline.
At some point, they encountered an orphan or abandoned child and decided to train them.
This child grew into a skilled fighter, perhaps even on their level, but without Batman’s strict moral code.
Eventually, something happened that led this person down a dark
(I'm just a person hungry for ghostbat interactions and fanfics)
If this crazy theory has blown anyone's minds, please let me know!

I understand that Bruce has his brucie Wayne persona but -
This Zdarsky arc bothers me so much for some reason. Not exactly the whole story, that's not it, but rather the fact that he implies that Bruce Wayne never did ANYTHING in relation to Gotham and only now he's trying to help. For some reason this hits me in the brain. But it must just be Error, maybe a misinterpretation on my part?

Okay okay, did anyone know this Robin existed? Why I didn't know myself, so something in my mind decided to ask and share.

She literally has a single appearance in the comic book Superman (1987) chapter 138, and I really liked the fact that she has wings similar to Batman from the future?

Let's have a coffee while the villain remains immersed in a possibly eternal illusion, after all he deserves a taste of his own medicine😗

I may seem strange, but I really need a Justice League encounter/discovery fanfic with the Batfamily with the comical question of some of them: are bats mammals? and if this applied to batkids lol
