Happily Ever After
I despise the idea of every piece of media or story having to end with a happy, healthy relationship. Give me, flawed and toxic people. Give me enemies to lovers where they tear each other apart. Give me, they were highschool sweethearts who fell out of love but made the best of it. Endings, in my opinion should always be complex and bittersweet.
#rant post#thoughts#idk#i dont really mean that it always has to be sad but the ending shouldnt be all happy#when i said enemies to lovers i kind of meant like @modern-typewriter vibes

Della
Della Duck is not a bad parent. She is not a parent at all. While she is the triplet's biological mother she was not there for the first 10 years of their lives. Even when she comes back, she doesn't really parent them much. Her parenting is more like spontaneous bursts of good parenting and attention with very little consistency. In the begining she is shown to give them a lot of attention but throughout the rest of the show we only see her really parent them in random patches of time. Everyone talks about the Timephoon episode and how the punishment was too harsh and while I agree I think the important part is that she didn't have the right to give that punishment. She was gone for 10 years while Donald did all the actual work and put in the effort to care for them and keep them safe. However as soon as she comes back the kids are supposed to accept her as their new parent and Donald is kind of cast aside. I'm not saying Della is bad or a bad person. I'm just saying that considering her current character she is not fit to raise children.

Hoo boy. Now I've made it known multiple times on my blog that I LOATHE the whoobiefication of Vox, but lets get into why/how Vox is NOT a good person nor a baby that needs protecting and why he's all the better for it. Buckle up ladies and gentlemen, this will be long.
Now, why isn't Vox a good person? Easy. Because he (along with the other Vees) is supposed to be the bad guy of the story. Shocking, I know. Vox was NEVER intended to be a good person, and some of y'all just need to accept that.
Now for the long part: HOW is he not a good person?
Well, first of all, his literal introduction is an ad selling drones HE DESIGNED specifically for stalking,"peeping on the neighbors has never been more stylish"
Right off the bat, this tells us he doesn't care about people unless he can profit off them.
Which is also backed up by the point that he ADVERTISES Val and Vels "love potions" which are basically just roofies.
Again. This man ONLY cares about profit first and foremost, screw the people who can get hurt/SA'd by his products.
Next, he has a power of hypnosis which he is NOT hesitant to use. He can take away someones free will at a glance and uses that to his full advantage.
He's also very willing to give Val his lowest earners to shoot. Notice that he does so with no hesitance and no regret.
Also, (and most significantly) he's a huge, HUGE enabler. This guy has cameras EVERYWHERE, ESPECIALLY when Valentino is involved. He's got cameras in Val's room, Angels old room, at Vals corner of the club (which moves when Val does), there's NO WAY he DOESN'T know that Val is a r@pist.
And DESPITE that, he still sleeps with the man, is very likely in love with him, and oh yeah, FUNDS HIS WHOLE DEAL. The cameras Val uses are Voxtech cameras.
Val may be the one who does the dirty work but Vox willingly and knowingly makes a profit off of that. He doesn’t just know and do nothing, he actively HELPS Val out and obviously has no second thoughts nor regrets about it.

This is not a look of disgust or discontent, this is fondness. Genuine fondness. For Valentino. As a PERSON. Let that sink in.
There’s also the implications that Vox is jealous of the attention Angel gets from Val. Angel gets abused constantly by Val, Vox KNOWS, and still hates Angel because of the sheer fact that he takes up so much of Vals attention.

Not to mention the HEAVY implications that he gets off on watching people suffer.

“Well Vox can still do better than Val!!”
While I’m at it, I guess I should bring up the fact that BOTH Vox and Val are MASSIVE red flags.
With Val, aside from the obvious, he’s also a huge attention whore for Vox and isn’t afraid to break Vox’s property if Vox doesn’t pay attention to him. Yeah Vox gets frustrated with him, who wouldn’t be when their lover is throwing temper tantrums every other day?
With Vox, again, aside from the obvious, isn’t afraid to handle Val roughly when he’s mad, and literally screams about how watching his arch nemesis/obsession get the crap beat out of him is better than sex. Right in front of Val by the way. In regular circumstances, 9.98/10 that’s gonna get your ass dumped in a second.
Not to mention the mutual condescension ation towards each other.

And as much as fans (including myself admittedly) like to shit on Val for being a man child, Vox is literally no better.

Plus the explosive tempers.

Seriously. Vox LITERALLY cannot do better than Val. Vox is the only one who can put up with Vals BS and vice versa.
OH YEAH and lets not forget one last thing: VOX ALSO ABUSES HIS OWN EMPLOYEES.

This dude is scared of him, and it’s NOT because he’s worried about getting fired.
So yes. Vox is not nor HAS EVER been a good person.
And for me personally, I love that. I love that he’s entertaining yet awful. I love his dynamic with Alastor, and I love his relationship with Val even more.
If you’re wondering why I personally love Staticmoth, it’s because basic couple rules do not apply to them. They’re both toxic narcissistic red flags and therefore they can be as awful as they want to each other, and the other will simply shake it off. Yet there’s still heavy trust between the two (never being scared of each other) and they still have little moments together where they’re genuinely happy. It’s unique, and something I’ve never seen in media before.

Basically, if you liked Vox better when you thought he was a poor little baby being abused by Val, read a fan fiction. There’s a lot of them out there.
But people really just need to accept the fact that he’s an awful person. Always has been. He’s not better than Val by ANY means. He and Val are both evil pricks who deserve each other.
And guess what? LIKING AN EVIL CHARACTER DOES NOT MEAN YOU SUPPORT THEIR CHOICES. IT’S OKAY TO LIKE VOX EVEN IF HE IS EVIL.
But don’t go on saying that Vox was “ruined” as a character when all signs have always pointed to him being terrible.

Credit Cards
I've seen a lot of posts where it's like the Robins steal Bruce's credit card but bruce is okay with it or just doesn't check or whatever. But I like to think that he checks them every once in a while. Like maybe every 4 months. One time Jason bought 4 pregnancy tests and then a week later three cribs and a bunch of baby stuff. Bruce saw it three weeks later and genuinely thought he was in an alternate universe. Nothing had happened he just wanted to scare Bruce. Steph uses it to pay for Starbucks and only Starbucks. Dick uses it to go on shopping sprees but that's pretty much it. But Tim uses it to buy everything but only when he's mad at Bruce. Tim's a millionaire at the very least but he just decided one day that if Bruce fucked up then he would just... not pay for anything. Damian uses it to secretly buy the locked episodes of Wild Kratts on Prime Video. Cass just occasionally pays for dinner or gets Steph a new Tv subscription. They could all easily pay for it themselves. They just don't want to.

First Kid
I don't really like the idea of Dick never doing anything wrong in his teenage years. I think it is laughable how people don't think the original sidekicks ever really got into trouble, because all of their parents were vigilantes who were trying for to raise not only a child but a child vigilante for the first time. Half of them were orphans. When teenagers know they can get away with things they will do them, so imagine a bunch of 15 year olds with access to literally everything under the sun. I just know they were smoking pot in Wally's basement or something. And you know that one kid in every stupid highschool movie that's like my rich parents aren't home? That was Roy. Dick bought everything with his weekly allowance of $500 (Bruce: how was i supposed to know that wasn't normal). He has training from Batman and you're telling me he can't pretend to be an adult? None of their parents have any idea what their doing and this leads to unmatchable shenanigans.

Scars
Throughout canon there has been many ways in which vigilantes and heroes disguise their scars, but none of them ever really stick. The technology is pretty advance and there is magic, but it hasn't been used very much in canon. So... one can only assume that they just use a lot of makeup. This brings up various hilarious questions. What about the Bats? Do they just have a stockpile of it? Where do they get it from? How do local celebrities go out and buy shitloads of makeup without looking suspicious af? The logical answer is that Bruce just orders it online but it would be so funny if he didn't. Like what if they're all panicking because they already look suspicious but they're running out of foundation. And Bruce just looks at them dead serious and goes "There's only one solution. I'm buying e.l.f."

Genuinely I think one of the best things you can do to build characters in your story is give them a kink. You do not have to put that kink in the story. You do not have to tell anyone but yourself. But thinking about their wants and needs and what would bring them comfort or desire, about whether they crave power or crave a situation where they're blessedly free from any power, about which taboo they might kind of want to cross, is really useful for getting inside their head. Also "what situation would make my character stupid horny enough to make a terrible mistake?" is a good plotting device. "It's a plot hole that they made that dumb decision" no they were just whistling like a lustful kettle and forgot to turn their brain on.

First of all I love this art and the idea is great. Second, It sparked an idea. I think it would be really cool if Charlie sang this as a reprise of Alastor's part. Like she's now queen and Alastor's favor is still being held over her head. Lucifer is dead or unable to help and the angels have launched a full out attack on hell. She is struggling with her power and how her vision for hell has only made things worse. She's desperate and just wants to fix everything but she sees no way out.

Damian's Father
Damian's father is mostly recognized as Bruce Wayne- aka Batman. However I feel like it doesn't make much sense in context to Damian's character. By the time he got to Damian it didn't seem like he wanted to adopt any more kids. While I don't think Bruce hates Damian, I don't think he pays attention to him very much. He obviously loves him but by the time he got to Damian he just didn't have the energy or the time. He also didn't really like Talia and didn't want to have a son with her in the first place. So when this admittedly pretty difficult kid is randomly dumped into his already very busy life, it makes sense for this emotionally constipated man to ignore him or just not care. On top of that his ideologies don't line up with Bruce's in the beginning. People will say things like "Oh but Jason-" but Jason's ideologies lined up with Batman's for the most part before his death. When he came back Bruce was willing to overlook Jason's new morals (eventually) because he loved his son. Even then he didn't take it well and Jason compromised a lot to be let back into the family. With Damian other than the biological connection, (which we know he doesn't really care about) he has no real connection with Damian and therefore no reason to overlook his differing ideologies.

Adjusting
There's a lot of Damian haters. Like a lot. But while I acknowledge that he can be horrible i also think people tend to forget that he's just a kid. Especially since most people hate him for when he first came to the manor. Like he was 9 or something when he got there. That's so incredibly young and the part people tend to forget is that he moved countries. He moved countries to a place where everything was unfamiliar. The food was unfamiliar, the rules were unfamiliar, the people were unfamiliar, there's a good chance the language was kind of unfamiliar! Thats huge for a child. He also knows the danger his mother is in every single day. He probably lost contact with her for long periods of time. Not knowing that kind of thing is really awful. Meanwhile he's perceived as either annoying or rude just because he doesn't understand a lot of the rules.

I’m actually so physically sick reading this. These Palestinians were malnourished, sick, frail. They just wanted sustenance for themselves, for their children. And Israel knows this. It knows it has created a fish bowl where people are starving every day, where they’re so desperate for the smallest morsel of food that they’re willing to go anywhere to get it. So they deliberately—on purpose—planted aid in a certain location, stayed waiting while Palestinians all rushed over for this promise of food, and then they opened fire. Now 104 Palestinians are dead, and the footage of this is so heartbreaking it actually made me wanna throw up. I am so incredibly tired of Arab lives being dispensable, or fodder for shock value videos. And with the UN having cut entry for aid trucks, I don’t know what the surviving Palestinians will do. It’s hard living with the fact that people care for Arab people so little, they’re willing to watch this and do nothing. Why are we not human to you?

I think we as a fandom tend to forget about anybody's abuse but Percy and Nico's. While it's definitely not a contest, and i'm not discounting what they went through I feel that we tend to skim over most other characters' backstories and trauma. Jason didn't know who or where his sister was for years, got his memory erased ,and had to rebuild his entire life. Piper mentioned barely seeing her dad, being bullied at school and struggling with being a daughter of the goddess of love and beauty and what that means for her. Leo has suffered abuse, probably has religious trauma, and his mom died in a fire that he probably thinks was at least partially his fault. Hazel's mother was honestly kind of horrible, she died, and she woke up in a place and time where she didn't know anyone and everything was different. Frank's mom died, then his grandmother who raised him dies, and he has to cope with knowing his life could end so abruptly at any time. Annabeth ran away from home at the age of 7, her dad was not a decent dad until later in the series, and one of the only people she has left betrayed her. Reyna has to run the camp while worrying about Jason being missing, was captured by pirates, and had to kill her father. Will Solace was Head Counselor of the Apollo Cabin at 12, has watched countless people die, and had to deal with the knowledge that in his mind he could have saved them. Not to mention Thalia, Luke, Bianca, and countless others.

Sharing Space
I recently saw a post showing all of Dick's siblings coming to his apartment when they needed help. I actually really like the idea of maybe like Tim moving out and being lonely in his apartment so he starts hanging out at Dick's all the time. At some point he's basically living there. Then Dick realizes this and decides to get an apartment in Gotham right next to Tim's. Eventually by complete coincidence Jason moves into the same building on the same floor. At some point Steph, Cass, and Barbara move into the building too and on some random day in April they all just simultaneously realize that they all basically live together.

Nerds
I've seen a lot of posts about how Jason calls Tim a nerd and makes fun of him for it despite being an absolute nerd himself. However I would like to present my own take on this: Jason makes fun of Tim for being the wrong kind of nerd. He walks into the room sees Tim reading a book on how to build a fucking rocket and goes "ugh this book is boring. You have no taste". He reads Tim's case report for a cold case he solved that batman had been trying to solve for years and he says "This report conveys no emotion."
