My favourite interpretation of the Robins(5 of them, not because i don't see Duke as a Robin but bc this doesn't apply to him) is that all the Robins after Dick are just insecure about him. Why? Dick is a Jack of all trades, and it just so happens he has all their trades too.

Jaybin when he was Robin always wondered, if Dick came back, would Bruce still need him? Batman talks about Dick a lot and tells Jason how Dick would've done it, as if Jason's method wasn't good enough.

Later as Red Hood Jason still feels some of these sentiments towards Dick. Jason was good at tacts and analytical thinking... but so is Dick, maybe not as good as Jason but if Jason died or something Dick could fill in for him, not as well but... still really good.

Then there's Timbin, Tim sometimes sat on the building a thought bothering him. 'If Dick came back, would Bruce just fire me?' Tim's good at hacking stuff, computers and being really smart in general... but Dick was too. Not as good but still so good that he could easily substitute him if Tim were to not do it anymore. So, would Bruce just fire him?

Stephbin always knew if Tim were to come back Batman would throw her away... and she was right. Later when she was Batgirl and even up 'til she was Spoiler, Steph actually met Dick and worked with him. Steph's strengths were stealth, determination and intuition. But Dick was also good at that. He was almost as good as her at Stealth, probably as determined as her and could also be creative on field. With Dick around- how much did Gotham need her?

Damian always looked up to Dick, he really did... but when Bruce came back, almost all he talked about was how great Dick was. No matter what Damian did, Dick was better. Dick was always better no matter what. Bruce never even chose Damian anyways, he chose Dick and Damian would never be able to compare.

And then meanwhile Dick is thinking about how replaceable he was to Bruce, that Bruce had managed to replace him 5 times, that the other Robins all managed to fill that same hole Dick left in him when he left just as well. That maybe the other Robins were better for Bruce than he could ever be...

Imma be real with you, I'd accept it if DC kept Damian as Robin... if they de-age Jon and make the two work together again.

My personal pet headcanon is that Steph rocks any gender. Wat do I mean? Steph can dress up and look like a guy and look STUNNING and then Steph can switch and turn into the prettiest chick in town.

Steph walks into the gala with black lipstick and the prettiest dress and SWOONS every lady and gentleman in in the room- Oh? You want a pretty boy? She got you.

She doesn't just stop at that, she even rocks enbie and it just turns everyone into simps.

The rest of the batfam takes her on undercover missions with them because they know she just looks THAT good as either gender.

I’m not criticising canon!StephCass I’m criticising fanon!StephCass and I’m just saying it leaches into how I see the ship in general because all I ever see when I look at StephCass in the fandom is the bubbly optimistic mischaracterisation of Steph with the therapy dog mischaracterisation of Cass which I admit has a pretty bad effect on how I see StephCass. I don’t hate the ship in itself, I hate how I have to scroll through hundreds of their mischaracterisations before I see one good StephCass fic and… I just can’t with that 😮‍💨

I think I figured out why I just don’t like StephCass that much(I don’t hate it I’m just not a big fan of it)

It’s because my first association with StephCass was in the Batgirls comic and I really dislike how Steph was characterised there, and it seems to be where most people started shipping it. So to me I’m just seeing a someone who’s Steph in name only X Cass. Which annoys me already. Which is made worse by when I see a mischaracterised version of Steph in fandom dating Cass. So that’s one thing that hinders me from considering the ship.

Second thing is- I’m tryna be real nice but… this ship doesn’t really have anything interesting to me. Like no angst, no stumbling blocks they have to get through together it’s just… boring. Like I don’t won’t them to have a toxic relationship at all, but their relationship just doesn’t have anything interesting(in the way the fandom portrays it at least.) I love myself a messy relationship(JayRoy is my prime example), so when it’s just… sunshine lollipops and rainbows it’s just way too boring. I definitely wouldn’t like it if it was like StephTim… god I’m gonna make a whole post on that… but I need both of them to have struggles to work though and not just be two characters kissing in the background(literally every AO3 ship in existence.) And it’s not that hard to find something for them to work through, like bring back Stephanie’s disdain for the no kill rule, make Cassandra struggle with her social life, make Stephanie struggle with accepting love(I can make a whole post about why that would be fitting to her character), make Cassandra struggle to show her love thus making it harder for Steph to receive it or even question her love

Actually another point, I fully believe StephCass should be a messy relationship that somehow works based on their character flaws and how they would clash. So most StephCass posts make it look like a shell of the two characters and makes it way too boring for my while there’s ships like StephKara(in the batgirl comic Steph is sorta a asshole to Kara at times and it looks like she’s sorta jealous of her while Kara still shows Steph the love she needs which makes it so much more interesting to me) and then StephRose(do I need to explain?). I guess I like those a lot more than StephCass because in fics I read of them, Steph tends to be characterised a lot better.

Last and final thing is well… I’m a pre52 Steph stan(specifically before war games) and well- I just never really saw the two as a couple there- they’ve always been best friends++ to me and later on in the comics: big sister, little brother. And I can’t really forget how Cass was like ‘well go home then’ to Steph when Steph told her she was fired, I know it was because Cass wanted to protect Steph, but so did Bruce so it wasn’t too much different in my eyes because they all told Steph to go home, they all discouraged her and it all had a very, very negative effect on Steph(however out of her 3 discouragers I only believe 2 should be forgiven but I know damn well Steph would still forgive 3.)

So yeah what are you guy’s ideal version of Stephanie & Cass?

@stephexmachina okay I definitely worded some things wrong, and forgot a few lines to make a few things clear so I apologise for that.

Someone in the comments told me that a lot of StephCass fans did not start with the Batgirls comic and I apologise for that. That was presumption and because I never really saw StephCass until recently and most StephCass ships I see just refer to the Batgirls comic so I assumed and I now admit I was wrong and apologise for it.

Also I never meant to imply that Cass was well characterised, as within the whole comic, nobody got good characterisation and I definitely should’ve brought that up in my original post. Also on the JayRoy topic, I guess I’ve never read any Roy comics so I’d naturally be wrong on that.

By the way I wasn’t criticising them for having conflict, I was just saying that because people liked to criticise Bruce and Tim for it and not Cass. I’d love to see something like that in their dynamic as I might like the ship more with more conflict like that. I wasn’t saying Cass wasn’t unforgivable I was just saying ppl shouldn’t demonise Bruce and Tim as much as they do for it(which was very off-topic bc I’m a rambler and it’s hard for me to stay on topic.) I know that Cass grieved and I wasn’t saying she didn’t care, just the bad effect it had on Steph should be more explored.

@duskdog I kept forgetting to reply to this, but I’m so with you. I absolutely hated how Bruce treated her on a general scale, but as you said that’s just what made the good moments stick out.

To me it’s way less about Bruce being good to her but more about what their relationship would be on a healthier scale. Like, if Bruce’s head wasn’t so far up his ass about Jason, they could’ve had a great relationship. I honestly believe that if a certain guy didn’t want to kill her off, Steph would’ve grown on Bruce, like people forget around the start of Stephanie’s Robin, the writers themselves intended to have Steph as Robin for at least a bit longer, but you know the rest of the story. So maybe Bruce and Steph would’ve grown on each other if their time wasn’t cut short. Even in Batgirl Bruce and Steph had a pretty stable relationship which was great but I still don’t believe Bruce and Steph would have a great relationship I just think it’d be a less dramatic version of Bruce and Jay’s relationship

People LOVE to talk about Steph annoying Bruce but you guys have NO idea how much panels where Bruce is generally just being really nice to Steph means to me...
