this blogpost isn't for anyone who is okay having their hard work, time and dedication played with. this is for the people who want to jump out of their skin when they notice injustices and copycats. for the people whose voice and personality is constantly being mirrored without the acknowledgment and credit by those watching and seemingly taking credit for it.

as a creative who's been working on social media for over 10 years now, i've come across this issue so many times. not just online but in real life too. when you pour your heart and soul into creating content you're truly passionate about, it can feel like a punch to the gut when you discover someone else is directly copying your work. whether it's your unique writing style, your carefully crafted visuals, or even your innovative ideas, the feeling of having your creativity pilfered can be deeply disheartening. and if you're like me (insane) it will be infuriating.. however, in the digital age, imitation can unfortunately be a common occurrence. this guide will explore practical strategies and mindset shifts to help you navigate the frustrating reality of copycats while staying true to your passion and protecting your creative endeavors.

discovering that a former friend was not only operating in the same niche as my brand but also seemingly mirroring my content felt like a profound betrayal. It was a double blow – the sting of creative theft compounded by the hurt of a fractured friendship. watching her blog gain traction, fueled by what felt like my own stolen ideas and style, was emotionally challenging. initially, i wrestled with anger and resentment, questioning my own originality and feeling a deep sense of injustice. however, i gradually shifted my focus towards doubling down on my own unique voice and innovations, channeling my energy into further developing my brand rather than dwelling on her imitation. while the emotional scars lingered, i learned to find validation in the authenticity of my own journey and the genuine connection i have built with my audience through my own distinct creations.

i want you to know that your anger, insecurity and jealousy is totally normal and valid. i experienced it too, and that's why i designed this realistic plan for coping in said situations. that way you can protect your mental health and the integrity of your work.

first and foremost, accepting the emotions that come with it. allow yourself to experience these emotions without judgment. don't minimize the effort and passion you've invested!

talk about it!!!! talking about your experience helps you to process it all. share your feelings with a trusted friend, family member, mentor, community or therapist. verbalizing your frustrations can be incredibly cathartic. i love and NEED girl time to talk about these things!!

now, it's time to reconnect with the initial passion and purpose behind your content creation. remind yourself why you started and what drives you. this can help recenter your focus on your own intrinsic motivations rather than external comparisons.

as a professional troll and hate watcher, it's so easy to get lost in the desire for justice that we end up giving these people more credit and energy than they deserve. it almost becomes addictive watching them be fake and lie on the internet. we are only draining ourselves.

now here comes one of the hardest parts, reframing our thinking...while it's valid to feel upset, try to view the copying as (unfortunately) a potential, albeit unwelcome, indicator that your work resonates with others. this doesn't excuse the behavior, but it can sometimes lessen the personal sting. deep down, i know how heavy, relatable, strong and empowering my content is. i'm glad she found inspiration in my work. but she lost all of my respect. i'm reminded of the unique elements of my content – my specific voice, experiences, and perspectives that cannot be truly replicated.

last but not least, instead of trying to directly compete with the copycat, focus on further developing your own distinct style, voice, and content. innovate and evolve so that your work remains demonstrably yours!!!! while it's natural to be wary of future copying, don't let it prevent you from continuing to create and experiment. fear can be creatively paralyzing. block them from your digital space and as hard as it may be, stop checking in on them and what they're doing. it will only cause more pain and anger when you realize they are not and never will change.

the best way to "remove" the impact of a copycat is to build such a strong and authentic presence that their imitation becomes less relevant in comparison. concentrate on growing your audience and solidifying your brand identity.

ultimately, dealing with copycats is a testament to your resilience and the strength of your original vision. it stings, but don't let anyone's weird behavior dim your creative fire. keep doing you, stay authentic, and remember that your unique ability is what truly slayssss. your creativity is valid, and the real RECOGNIZES REAL...
