my partner recently had to quit his job in December due to physical and psychiatric disabilities and we are struggling with funds to continue paying for his service dog in training’s training with an amazing trainer/facility. I am a full time student and working as much as I can, and we have an 8+ month wait for his disability application. we created a GoFundMe in hopes to raise some funds to help pay for the remainder of the costs. we took out a loan last year to help with the costs and are running out of funds, on top of paying the monthly loan payment. If anyone is able to please share, comment, like, donate. Anything and everything is so greatly appreciated.

She is training to help with psychiatric conditions (PTSD, OCD, agoraphobia, bipolar, DID), medical conditions (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome and chronic pain from endometriosis) and autism (meltdown/shutdowns). Have you ever had a child run and jump into your arms for a hug when you weren’t expecting it? Maybe they don’t land quite right and their full weight lands right on your ribs, knocking the breath right out of you. It hurts, but you don’t want to yell at them or put them down. You don’t want to make them feel bad when they’re just trying to get comfort from you. 

That’s how I feel every time I have a flashback. It feels like like one of my little traumatized parts jumping into my arms and slamming into me with the full force of their weight. It hurts and it takes my breath away. I try to catch them and hold them there for a moment, to tell them it’s okay and that I’m not angry, but they are so heavy and I will be overwhelmed if I hold them for too long. Instead of just holding them, we become entwined. We blend together, and then I sink down to the floor with them where I can’t help either of us. 

“I’m going to listen to you, but I have to put you down,” I tell them. 

With a little more space, I can witness their story without experiencing it with them. I can be there for them without becoming them. It still hurts, but I can breathe and I have the strength for it. I can hold their hand and comfort them the way they should have been comforted the first time.
