Perhaps it's just me. But right now, with the rapid global transition towards green energy, reforestation and conservation efforts, laws, genuinely crazy and huge innovations that can help us adapt to the changing world... it feels like we're on the right track.
Perhaps it's just me. But the geopolitical insanity that I see and learn from my peers all over the world, doesn't feel like the end. No, it... it feels like change. The last horrible and panicked gasps of the dying old, because it refuses to accept that it is not sustainable anymore, and the world is moving towards the better, through protests and unity and human goodness. I've seen this before - in stories from the older generation, and in history books.
But I also feel terribly guilty whenever I start thinking like that, for some odd reason? I feel guilty whenever I try and rationalize that despite it all, the world will continue existing, and even in the worst case scenario (which we already have avoided), there would be forests and oceans and species and biodiversity and ecosystems and people and cities and countries to see and love, because after all, nature is resilient and adaptable - just like our species are.
I feel guilty for feeling this cautious curiosity about what the future might hold for us, the bad and the good. Because I feel like I am obligated to be grieving and panicking and angry, like many people are - but that's just... so tiring.
Hi Anon,
This is going to be a long one because I think your ask gets at something difficult that I have a lot of thoughts about.
Your phrase “cautious curiosity” made me think of psychology researcher Jamil Zaki’s idea of “hopeful skepticism”. Which is not assuming that everything will inevitably get better, but open to the possibility that it could and curious to see the paths it might take to get us there.
Our society tends to view a cynical outlook as more intelligent or even more moral, but research shows that a cynical outlook actually makes people worse at predicting outcomes, worse at cognitive and problem-solving tasks, less likely to vote or protest, and even measurably harms their physical and mental wellbeing.
I think the guilt you describe is likely coming from the feeling that while we have been significantly improving conditions for humanity on this Earth and will likely continue to do so in the long run, in the present there are many real humans suffering--it can be hard and uncomfortable to hold these two truths together.
Even if this last dying breath is temporary and brief, it is destroying real people’s lives and many more live in fear that they will be next. The fact that child mortality has absolutely plummeted even just in my own lifetime is both a miracle of humanity and means little to the parent who has lost their child to a preventable death. To quote the philosopher Max Roser, “The world is much better; the world is still awful; the world can be much better.”.
You don't need to feel guilty for having hope for the future. Carrying feelings like hopelessness, grief, and fear all the time is entirely valid, but like you said it is also exhausting—and there is nothing inherently moral about emotionally suffering particularly if it’s harming your ability to live your life or take positive action.
You are right that we are still making progress in the correct direction in many ways. You are right that history is rife with examples of forward momentum provoking a reactionary backtracking but that the forward momentum usually ultimately prevails.
The key here, is to understand that the future path you describe is possible—even likely more probable than a lot of people think—but it is not inevitable. We still have to take action to make it happen. The arc of history bends towards progress only because so many millions of mostly unnamed unknown people have put the work in to bend it in big and little ways.
I’ll end with one of my favorite quotes from Rebecca Solnit: “Hope is not a lottery ticket you can sit on the sofa and clutch, feeling lucky. It is an axe you break down doors with in an emergency. Hope should shove you out the door, because it will take everything you have to steer the future away from endless war, from the annihilation of the earth's treasures and the grinding down of the poor and marginal... To hope is to give yourself to the future - and that commitment to the future is what makes the present inhabitable.”
Reminding others that progress is still happening and that there is hope for a brighter future is important work in getting members of your community to pick up their own axe and make that future happen. Hope in dark times is not just ok or reasonable--it is a precious, vital tool.

What are your thoughts on the new "free speech in universities" guidance?
i think its bad that the uk has a regulatory body whose effective purpose is to fine universities a million pounds if they take any steps to protect their trans students from transphobia and i dont care what that body does

Fully agree with the rampant biphobia in fandom but you don't make it any easier on yourself if you majorly draw F/M. Straight central. :(
yeah i get that but you lack the vital context that i went to the Bisexual Council and asked the Bisexual President himself if my bisexual characters that i made so i know they're bisexual because i made them (they're my characters) (they're bisexual) (<-thing i know because i made them) are bisexual enough to draw however often i want and he gave me a thumbs up. really nervous about it because he didn't say anything else but i think that's a good sign. what do you think? :)

HELLO, THIS IS A SUCCESS STORY!!!
Right now, as I’m writing these words, I am crying tears of happiness. My biggest dream was to come back to Tumblr one day with a success story. I first learned about Void State in 2022 from an Instagram manifest blog called @/moncherry (whose account is now closed). Since that day, I became obsessed with it. (If there are people obsessed with Void State and as a result delaying their lives and sinking deeper, don’t feel alone because I was exactly like that.) From 2022 until June 14th, if you ask me how many times I truly tried Void State, the count probably wouldn’t exceed the fingers on two hands. “I’ll try tomorrow,” and “I just turned over and fell asleep” were my habits. But I realized that I was constantly postponing my life this way and decided to take the reins of my life back. Since the beginning of June, I stuck to one plan — ‘DON’T MOVE’. I know it sounds like a very limiting belief, but it worked for me. I chose the late hours when I wasn’t sleepy, between 9 pm and 10 pm, to keep my brain awake with caffeine, lying on my back in the starfish position, and I didn’t move after that time. Here’s what I did, step by step:
Wim Hof breathing technique (about 10 minutes)
Any Yoga Nidra meditation (about 30 minutes)
This way, you stay motionless for 40 minutes but your mind remains awake. Then I use a Void State meditation I recorded with my own voice. I’m sharing the text below for you:
Void State Meditation Script: “Find a place where you can feel comfortable. Make sure your body is as comfortable and relaxed as possible. It’s very important to take your time preparing your body for this practice. If needed, pause, take a deep breath, and come back when you feel ready. When you feel ready, lovingly close your beautiful eyes and allow your awareness to gently turn inward. Gently focus your attention on your breath; notice your belly expanding as you inhale and relaxing as you exhale, maybe feeling a sense of relief.
Let gravity do its work. Feel all the muscles in your body relax and release: your head, face, neck, shoulders, arms, hands... your chest, back, belly, hips, legs, and feet becoming heavier. Because right now, they don’t need to do anything. Whisper gently to your body: “Body, it’s time to relax now. I give you permission to relax.”
With each breath in, fill yourself with deep relaxation, and with each breath out, let all tension flow out of your body. Breathe naturally, at a rhythm that feels good to you, without overthinking it. Trust that even if you don’t consciously understand, your body benefits from this process and is doing what’s right for you. Knowing that your body understands, allow yourself to let go even more.
Now, imagine a vast and dark emptiness in your mind. An infinite, silent, shapeless space... This emptiness gently surrounds you, all your thoughts, feelings, and worries dissolve into this darkness. You no longer need to do anything; you simply exist. All remaining thoughts drift away like clouds floating in the sky. Your body’s boundaries become indistinct; you are now pure awareness in this infinite space. This emptiness fills you with peace; here there is no time, no place, no right or wrong.
Allow the darkness to envelop you. In this void, feel a nameless peace slowly wrapping around you. As this peace deepens, notice a light being born inside. This light is soft, warm, and reassuring. It slowly expands, enveloping your entire being, filling you with love and tranquility. Now, realize that this light actually comes from within you. Fully surrender to this moment.
Rest peacefully in this space for a while. Whether you stay in the endless darkness or watch a colorful display within it doesn’t matter. Trust that this moment and space are with you. With every inhale, notice how good this emptiness and light feel, and with every exhale, sink deeper into relaxation.
When you’re ready, on your next inhale, feel deep gratitude for this darkness and emptiness. Hold your breath and feel your body filling with a sense of lightness. When ready, notice this lightness spreading through your entire body and touching every cell. A sense of enlightenment arises within you; you realize you have the power to choose what your mind perceives, choosing non-judgment and acceptance. You can rest in this feeling as long as you want. Carry the peace, trust, and acceptance this experience gives you inside.
Now, I will count down from 10 to 1. With each number, you will feel closer to the void state: 10: Keep focusing on your breath. 9: Feel yourself getting closer. 8: Take one more step closer to the void in your mind, body, and emotional state. 7: Notice how wonderful it feels to breathe. 6: You are entering the void state. No struggle, no problem, no doubt. 5: You’re very close, feel how near you are. 4: You become one with the void. 3: Closer than ever before. 2: Almost fully in the void state. 1: You are now completely in the void state.”
You can either record this with your own voice or use a text-to-speech app to turn it into audio.
After the meditation, the next step is tricking the brain. Without moving, and with eyes closed, move your eyes left, right, down, and up. 1-2 minutes is enough.
Then comes a robotic affirmation: “I am the Void. I am aware that I am in the void state right now.”
Your body will already be relaxed and numb from immobility, your brain between dream and reality. When the moment comes when all sounds fade away, your entire destiny will change. This was my journey. To make your life even better than your dreams, all you need is 1 to 1.5 hours of not moving, relaxing, and affirming. It’s that simple.
What I have achieved:
୨୧ An extraordinary, never-before-seen facial beauty — green feline eyes, Russian lips, and a Cindy Crawford nose.
୨୧ Slim, narrow shoulders and rib cage, a slender waist and abdomen, proportionate wide hips, and long model-like legs.
୨୧ Hairless, crystal-clear skin free from all skin issues (Goodbye to eczema I had for years).
୨୧ Perfect, flawless, full, soft, shiny, non-frizzy, never breaking, never smelling bad, never greasy, healthy, and always beautifully scented thick wavy light brown hair.
୨୧ Always super clean, attractive, sexy, and sweet-smelling everywhere. Never sweat or smell bad. No sweat stains ever. My clothes and underwear always smell very clean, nice, and sexy. Both my bathroom visits always smell good. No sounds from the bathroom, no discharge, no gas or burps. This doesn’t harm my health.
୨୧ Graduated from Yale Law School and currently accepted to Harvard Law School for my master’s degree.
୨୧ A passive income job earning $15,000 per month and a $5,000 scholarship for my master’s degree.
୨୧ Currently living in a Bosphorus-view loft apartment in Istanbul, with a Mercedes iX.
୨୧ All the skincare products, Dyson, Apple devices, luxury cosmetics, books, cameras, and more from my Pinterest wishlist.
୨୧ My sister overcoming PCOS, and a summer house in Muğla for my mother.
୨୧ Meeting the man of my dreams in the summer of 2026.
And countless other details I can’t list here…
Learning Void State — even if years pass — never lose hope, and remember that something that has never happened before might just happen in one day. Let this be the moment your luck turns around. Thanks to all the Tumblr blogs, I am grateful beyond words. Now, to live the best summer of my life, I’m going to the Bahamas with my sister and my closest three friends. (And yes, I manifested my friends too ;) )
— OPIA (maybe I’ll use this nickname to share motivational talks and thoughts again. I love you all <3)
SO HAPPY FOR YOUUU!!

Include nonprofessional productions, like community theater or school plays. This is asking only about seeing them live– do not include times you've watched recordings of plays/musicals. DO include shows you've seen multiple times. For any productions you were involved in (as cast/crew/etc), use your own judgement to decide if that counts.
If you don't know the exact number, just make your best estimate.

Quiet Hours
It’s late. Some hour that doesn’t matter anymore because the only light in the apartment is the soft blue glow of the TV screen, flickering shadows against the wall. You’re curled up against Sevika’s side on the couch, half under a blanket, head resting on her chest. Some old noir movie hums in the background, low volume, washed-out dialogue, you’ve barely caught a word of it.
Her hand’s in your hair. Slow strokes. Fingernails dragging just lightly enough along your scalp to send a ripple of calm through your spine. She’s doing it absentmindedly, like it’s second nature to comfort you. Her thumb occasionally brushes your temple, her other hand resting heavy and warm on your hip beneath the blanket.
You’re blinking slower. The soft sound of rain outside, the rise and fall of her breathing, the lazy scratch of her nails down the back of your head, to your neck, to the top of your spine, it’s lulling you in and out of consciousness.
“Still awake?” she murmurs.
You hum. Sort of. Not really.
She chuckles, low and warm in her chest. “Didn’t think so.”
You feel her shift, then strong arms slip under your back and behind your knees. She lifts you like you weigh nothing, like it’s just a habit now, carrying you to bed. You let your head fall into the crook of her neck, fingers lazily fisting in the collar of her worn tank top.
The bedroom’s dark and quiet, just the soft creak of the bed frame as she lays you down and climbs in behind you. She spoons in close, one leg hooked around yours, her chest to your back. You feel her palm settle flat between your shoulder blades.
Then she starts again. Those slow, rhythmic strokes. Fingertips dragging gently up and down your spine. Barely there, just enough to make you melt into the mattress. She does it over and over and over, her breath steady against your neck, her touch soft and constant, like she’s drawing invisible lines that only the two of you understand.
“Mmm,” you mumble, so close to sleep it doesn’t feel real anymore. “Don’t stop.”
“Not gonna,” she murmurs. “Just sleep, baby.”
And you do. Somewhere in the middle of her touch and the quiet warmth of her arms, you drift off, with Sevika still drawing lazy patterns on your back.
She stays awake just a little longer, just enough to keep tracing you like she’s memorizing every inch.
Then she lets herself fall too.

who do you think is the most jealous out of all the yans u write for?
scara and the cursed geto + gojo sharing a darling combo.
scaramouche is overly suspicious of everyone's interactions with you. he sees nefarious intent where this is none and places extra emphasis on any negative experiences you've had in the past. his paranoia, though it helps his cause, isn't an act either; he genuinely sees the worst in everyone. once he begrudgingly accepts his investment in you, he is committed. there are no lows he won't stoop to if it guarantees you'll be bound to him. he poisons your thoughts regarding others, weaving tales that isolate you. if he could, he'd wipe teyvat clean so that you two were its only inhabitants. the yoke of his love is heavy and oppressive.
geto and gojo are dangerous because they feel like you're owed to them. gojo especially leans into this mindset, with geto acting as an enabler. they don't like the thought of others having any influence on you. who you are in the present and who you'll become in the future is for them alone. gojo doesn't even like hearing stories about your childhood since he wasn't there, he's that weird. geto is more subtle but no less cunning, he encourages you to cut off contact with others, reassuring you that they are all you need. even the most innocuous interactions — a tourist asking for directions, chatty clerks — end with one of them snaking an arm around your waist and whisking you off. shoko accurately describes them as 'pests.'

I often see amputee characters in illustrations with a tied off sleeve. Just wondering if this is a thing and if so how it's done?
Hello!
We don't currently have mods who are upper limb amputees. If any followers have first-hand experience, feel free to share.
I've never seen it in person and very rarely elsewhere. I think it only makes any sense if you have a very short residual arm (=don't use it for tasks) and you don't like your sleeve flopping around. Otherwise it would prevent you from using your stump. Most arm amputees are below the elbow and a knot at the end of the sleeve would probably only get in the way.
If someone is genuinely frustrated by the flopping sleeve problem then most amputees I've seen with that issue just get their clothes tailored. It's not some big adjustment generally, and it's less work on a larger timescale.
Obviously you might have situations where it's cold out and the person hides their arm like that to warm it up (basically the same thing you would do if you have a whole arm). But if warmth is a constant issue then putting a sock on the arm would probably be more comfortable. Just like it's more comfortable to put on a glove than tie your sleeves off.
In media specifically it just feels like the billionth reiteration of "doing everything possible to not show the stump". Bandages, tied off sleeves, prosthetics that apparently never come off, etc.
If any followers with amputation(s) have opinions on this trope feel free to share.
