tsukasa has an account. it functions as saki and toyas reroll account. mostly sakis because toya has impulse control. he has never actually played the game.

nene is an avid genshin player and was ashamed of it at first but now she has keyrings of visions and shit. shes also actual shit at the game itself. shes there for lore, characters and gambling. she has matching albedo/fischl/sucrose pfps with rui and mizuki

(That I just made up because there's no time for questions yet)

I know, I know... that's not going to be sustainable unless we're aiming for the first 6 million word release in history. I'll be streamlining things more from this point onwards.

Is this a standalone or the first book of a series?

It's a series. The first book One Knight Stand will keep going until we finally complete that Lesser Circle of Seven (or die trying) but the apocalypse won't be over yet.

What is with all these wikipedia links in the game?

So I was going to have tooltips that popped up and explained things such as 'greaves' and whatnot like Twine games do… but oops, Choicescript doesn't have that capability. The closest I could do is include a link to a website that explained it.

I decided that wikipedia had the best chance of still being available years from now and have handy explanations to most things I was referencing (so I wouldn't have to chase after broken links when sites go down forevermore).

And then I just started running amok and linking to anything that the player might not know offhand. If you already understand the reference or have no further interest in it, please feel free to just ignore them.

How can I see the code for the game?

You can view the game code on my site the same way you do on Dashingdon just add /scenes to the end of the URL.

Do I need to know anything about King Arthur, Camelot, or random arthurian lore to play this game?

No, you don't need to know anything about it.

You can spend the whole game going "Who is Arthur? What's a Camels-a-lot? What am I even doing here?" as a legit strategy. (You can even play that way if you actually do know stuff about arthuriana.)

If you choose to be an in-game lore expert, it just means your MC is as likely to give an explanation as one of the other characters. However, anything important that the player needs to know will come up in the game itself.

You can also ask the other characters for info dumps on Camelot... and boy, will some of them give you (completely skippable) lore dumps all right.

Hey, this stuff that Merlin's saying about Camelot doesn't jive with what I know!

Maybe that's the difference between what canonically happened in One Knight Stand's backstory. Or maybe Merlin is just gaslighting you.

What's going on with Merlin's pronouns?

If Merlin's pronouns don't fit with the gender that you've chosen for them within the MC's speech or internal narrative, then that's a coding error (please report it).

If another character (say a little girl who's convinced that Merlin is Elsa) is using different pronouns for Merlin than what's expected, then that's simply how that other character is currently perceiving Merlin.

But what pronouns does Merlin prefer?

Merlin doesn't care what human pronouns you use for them. Out-of-universe I'll be using they/them for simplicity's sake (same reason I'll be using 'incubus' instead of typing incubus/succubus the entire time).

What's up with all of Merlin's kaomoji in their text messages and e-mails?

They're a fifth-century mage who's been sealed away for 1500 years... they're *trying*.

Why are there so many Merlin questions in this FAQ?

I don't know, it just ended up that way. Probably because they show up in Chapter 1 and have a rather... complex... situation that needs warnings attached to it.

Are all RO's available to all MC's?

Your MC won't be blocked from a romance due to gender or sexuality. At most you'll get a passing mention if you're not the gender that the RO usually dates.

There are certain *other* mitigating factors, however... for example not all RO's are going to be kosher with the Serial Killer MC (especially if said MC won't knock off with all the killings).

Also there is one modern day RO that is incompatible with a certain Camelot MC background.

Is there a lock-in point for romances?

No, there will be several points where you can initiate and break-off relationships with the various RO's (and know that the RO's can take take those on and off-ramps just the same as the MC).

You can also romance another character after breaking up with your current RO... but that's going to get tougher and tougher the more you do that.

Can we start a romance in Book 1?

Romances will proceed at a different pace depending on who your MC is romancing (and also on your MC themselves). For example Adrian will be friendzoning you through most of Book 1 for... reasons. Meanwhile, potential sex scene with Merlin in Chapter 3 if you're feeling particularly horny.

Do I need to romance someone to take part in their personal subplot?

No, you just need to be "close" to someone, either platonically, romantically, or otherwise to take part in their subplot. You'll also need to actually be physically present (which will not always be possible for everyone at the same time).

Is there any poly?

In the series, yes, but not in the first book One Knight Stand, as forming the triad will require developing a certain level of trust and loyalty between all three members. And right now everyone is too busy side-eying each other in suspicion at this point.

Thus, since the poly options won't appear until Book 2, saying who is involved would be a *spoiler* since it indicates who'll actually still be available for romance later in the series.

In general, there are three triads that will be available... one is male/male/MC, one is female/female/MC, and one is male/female/MC. Note that there is some overlap in the characters potentially involved in various triads since only a couple of the ROs are interested in this sort of thing.

What about options for flings and friends with benefits--

*points to Merlin*

So... Merlin the incubus as an RO. Can they be romanced monogamously? Can they be romanced asexually?

You can indeed romance Merlin and have them be emotionally monogamous to you as the partner they will always return to while everyone else is a (literal) snack.

But they can't be physically monogamous with the MC. They need to eat and being Merlin's sole food source would literally kill the MC in two weeks or less.

In fact, romanced Merlin is even more likely to seek out other food sources just to make certain that the MC is safe with them and that they won't get too hungry and accidentally eat your soul.

Merlin's nature as an incubus means their sexuality is highly integral to them, and while they will reflect back what their partner wants/needs from them, they are not naturally romantic. Basically if you're not having sex with them, then a high affinity MC is defaulting back to platonic friends.

These are things that are definitely going to be brought up in-game if you try to initiate a long-term romance with Merlin.

Will any other RO have problems with an asexual romance?

Nope, sex can be entirely avoided with all the other RO's, just choose the snuggle options instead of the sex options.

How explicit are we talking here regarding sex scenes?

You'll have the choice between fade to black and something rather more explicit but not full-blown porn. If anything rated higher than that gets included as a DLC option (not part of the base game) will depend upon how much (if any) interest there is in that sort of thing.

Can I romance the saboteur?

You can certainly *think* you are! (Note: This is not recommended for your MC's longevity)

Can I romance the 404 Error?

You can certainly *try*. (You actually have a better chance here than with the actual saboteur.)

Can I romance the dude in the elevator, that random paramedic, or some stranger walking down the street?

So there's only one traitor, right?

There may actually potentially be more than one depending on the MC's actions. But there's always that one particular saboteur present despite whatever else the MC may do.

Will the gender of my past Camelot reincarnation be the same as the one I've chosen in game?

No, there's no connection between your MC's current and past gender (or really their current and past *anything* since they're basically an entirely different person now).

There are four different backgrounds available for the Camelot reincarnation, 2 male and 2 female, so if you end up with a past incarnation you don't like at the end of the game, you can replay for one more suitable to your tastes.

How is the MC's past Camelot Incarnation determined?

Mostly through your choices during the Camelot flashback sequences. Mostly.

Who are the potential past incarnations of the MC?

That's for you to find out! (No really, this is one of the major subplots of the game).

What is with all these grayed-out options?

Options will be grayed out if they conflict with a previous choice the player made if you haven't fulfilled the prerequisites for unlocking them.

An example would be the "I'm lying about my amnesia" option not being selectable if you didn't chose to have amnesia in the first place. (The exception right now is the fencing & book club choices... I just haven't written those routes yet).

If nearly *all* the options have been grayed out, then usually that's triggered by your fear or vice kicking in or because your MC is literally possessed (Congratulations!). You may want to work on that.

I'm here for the story and not for the trauma… what background choices are least likely to spectacularly blow up in my face later?

In that case, I'd suggest the Lab Technician job, the Imposter secret, Abandoned or Abused as your childhood, Lust as your vice if you're not planning to pursue a long-term relationship with a RO (Sloth if you are), either Heights, Snakes, Spiders, or Closed Spaces as your phobia, avoiding Luck as your talent & avoiding the Internet as your addiction, and finally having Adrian as your close friend.

Not saying that you can't make other choices during the game that'll set you on the path to Hard Mode, but these background choices have the mildest potential repercussions.

I want the full spectacular clusterf*ck experience here! What background should I choose?

The Wrath (Vice), Accident (Childhood), and Serial Killer (Secret) combo is always f̴u̸n̷. The "Lying about my amnesia" secret is also it's own brand of mindtrip as well.

Also, some other options include starting off as a Security Guard as your career, with Fear Itself as your phobia (blood or death are also 'good' options), Luck as your talent, the Internet as your addiction, and of course Adrian as your stalker because obviously we don't need any good relationships to fall back on when playing Among Us.

What is going on with the "lying about your amnesia" option?

What indeed.

If you don't like meta fourth wall breaks or otherwise heavily self insert, you might not want to choose that as your secret.

My MC's skin is pretty dark, is that demonic-bruise thing actually going to be seeable?

Since the bruise being perceivable is an important plot point, then no matter how dark your MC's skin is, that bruise is darker still even if has to become the abiding abyss of a black hole to do so. (I even described it as a black hole in some routes to cover my posterior.)

My MC is intrigued by this agenda of demonic conquest & people-eating and would like to subscribe to their newsletter. Can I join the other side?

Well... there's certainly some Dead Ends where you can do that!

Screw all these people and this forced quest! My MC wants to leave the group and this plot behind.

You can certainly do that. You'll die (since your MC is currently on the top of several different 'Kill on sight' lists), but you can do it.

At some point the MC will be strong enough that they can split from the group and frolic off into their own nonstandard ending adventures in the apocalyptic world while everyone else deals with the whole apocalypse plot thing. But you're nowhere near that point yet.

So the MC can die prematurely here, huh.

Yep, this game is horror-adjacent and you're being given a hundred save slots for a reason. I'll be inputting checkpoints as well once we come to that part. Hopefully Choice of Games will start allowing normal save points in the near future.

Also, please note that all the Dead Ends include clues towards the truth of what's going on here that may otherwise not be knowable, so they're not complete wastes of time. Also, they all give Achievements.

OMG, what the hell is this monstrosity that is Merlin's Guide to Arthurian Lore?

We're playing Among Us/Werewolf/Mafia/etc here. You aren't getting any word-of-god lore directly from me. That'd be too easy.

All info about the One Knight Stand world will be filtered through the natural biases (and lies) of the characters involved in the game. Hence, Merlin's Guide to Arthurian Lore.

Obviously, it can't be officially marketed like that, but I thought that would be the most popularly recognized description for this type of situation.

My save slots keep getting stuck in the Status Menu! (or any of the submenus associated with it such as Messages/Inventory/etc)

Unfortunately, that's a common problem with Dashingdon games or any games that use the smPlugin.js save system (like One Knight Stand). You can't save the game directly after checking the stats menu (or any of the submenus associated with the stats menu such as Messages, Inventory, menu). If you do, that save will be permanently stuck in the stats menu for good.

So you either have to...

Save the game before checking the stats menu

After checking the stats menu move the game forward by at least one screen before saving. That means picking an option, hitting the 'Next' button or whatever is currently available in that particular game.

I keep getting an error in the game.

Before reporting any errors, please clear your browser's cache (just the cache, not the cookies, localStorage, or any other browser data) and refresh the page.

Then, if you're loading an old save slot, check the Status Menu to make certain that your stats haven't been reset back to default (which can be caused by the data in the save slot corruption). If the Status Menu variables have reset back to their original values, you'll have to load another Save or restart from the beginning of the game).

If you're still getting an error message after trying these steps, please feel free to send in a bug report.

When will the Book Club Route be done?

When it's done. There's no set date at this point and considering the time investment (3-4 months for 150,000-175,000 words) and how burnt out I currently am with Chapter 1, it won't be anytime soon.

I will also no longer be responding to any update requests regarding the book club.

What the hell is going on with Gawain in Merlin's Guide to Arthurian Lore?

So, while I was plotting out One Knight Stand and deciding which version of Arthurian lore would be taken as the "truth" of the OKS world, I looked at Gawain and his five million wives and lovers (because if you were going to create a female OC back then, high probability she's shacking up with Gawain) and then I decided, yes, I'm going to make all of them canon.

The yandere. The other yandere. The one who dosed him with aphrodisiacs. That one who died of heartbreak because he couldn't figure out how to get back to her castle. The cursed baba yaga.

Merlin's cursed ex-lover. [insert Merlin screeching in the background about not having done any such thing] The fairy daughter of Morgana... and that other fairy... and this fairy too.

So he tries to smile all the time, it looks a little uncanny and to be honest he likes being a little creepy. He would make a mental list of all your dislikes and likes, and even pick up your favourite drink for you if you’re ever late to school. He knows everything about you, and you know everything about him. He’ll probably try to listen to your problems but it doesn’t work out too well because he’s rather straightforward and oblivious at the same time, so he offers stupid advice. “Just ask them out,” is probably what he’d say if you said you had a crush on someone. He has full faith and trust in you and literally doesn’t care if you hang out with other people instead of him, although he’ll probably get all pouty if you spend time apart for too long. “I thought I was your best friend…”

C = Cuddles (do they like to cuddle? How do you guys cuddle?) Tobio only likes it if he’s super duper tired, like after a hard game or after fighting with Hinata. He likes it when you hold him in your arms, because it makes him feel like a child again. Although, you’re probably shorter than him and your arms probably die after a little bit. Occasionally, if he knows you're feeling down, he’ll hesitantly hold you in his arms and you guys will cuddle for, like, 5 minutes until he finally goes, “let’s play volleyball now.”

D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?) Tobio’s parents were at work all day, and his grandpa was old, so he and his older sister would help around the house a lot. While his sister did all the cooking, he would clean as fast as he could so that he could play volleyball again. He wanted to put his volleyball career as his very first priority and was hesitant about settling down because he needed to travel a lot, so you guys had a very quick wedding with close friends and family (and his Karasuno team, of course) and you accompanied him everywhere. Whenever he came home from practice or a game, he would clean the apartment or wherever you guys were staying, but there wasn’t much to clean so you let him watch some volleyball games while you cooked. He cooks if you're sick and tired, but he only makes pork curry because it's the only thing he knows how to make (and it's his favourite food).

E = Ending (how would breakups work out?) If you broke up with him, he’ll wonder what he did wrong and go to Sugawara or his sister for advice. He won’t cry - he’s just confused, and he hopes that you were just mistaken. He apologizes for whatever he’s done wrong. If you don’t talk to him at all after the breakup, he’ll start getting angry at himself and project it into volleyball, therefore making him return to his tyrant self. If he breaks up with you, it's probably because you were getting in the way of his career. He’ll definitely regret it and come back to you at one point, but it's up to you to accept or reject him.

F = Fiance (how do they feel about commitment?) Like I said before for Domestic, he’s hesitant about committing so much to a relationship that he lets it get in the way of volleyball. Volleyball is love, volleyball is life. He might not want to commit too much, but he’ll eventually come around because you're his second biggest priority (after volleyball). He knows his life will fall apart if you weren’t there for him, so he wants to get married quickly so you guys can travel together as a real couple.

G = Gentle (how gentle are they?) Tobio is very strong. You’ve seen his serves before, and you’re scared he might accidentally break your hand while holding it. His hands are calloused, but he’s surprisingly gentle with you because he’s also scared that he might hurt you by accident. He can get a bit too strong and grip your arm when he’s excited, but he’s quick to calm down when he sees you in pain.

H = Hugs (do they like hugs?) The same with cuddles - he’ll lean down and put his face into his shoulder if he’s tired or sad, and you guys will stay like that for as long as he needs. He gives you quick hugs for motivation or comfort, but it rarely happens and he only does it when you guys are alone.

I = I Love You (how fast do they say the L-word?) He had never thought about saying it until Hinata yelled, “YOU GUYS HAVEN’T EVEN SAID ‘I LOVE YOU’ TO EACH OTHER YET?” and then Tanaka and Noya started bullying him as well, so he was basically pressured into doing it. It had only been, like, a month since you guys had started dating. He started getting paranoid - were you going to say it first, or should he? Just to test it out, he said “I love you” in the most nonchalant voice before you guys parted ways at night. Flustered, you didn’t reply, which led him to thinking that you didn’t love him back. The next day, it happened to be his game against Shiratorizawa, so you said “I love you too” right before the game. This made him happy, and he did exceptionally well during the game.

J = Jealousy (how jealous do they get?) Tobio is extremely oblivious and doesn’t think much of it if you talk to other people. If someone’s flirting with you, he won’t do anything about it until he sees that you're visibly uncomfortable. He’ll come up behind you and glare at the flirter, making them (most of the time) run away. He doesn’t get jealous unless you’re hanging out with Hinata or anyone from his team, because then he gets worried that you might think he’s uncool compared to his teammates and leaves him. He’ll glare at his teammates, making them scared, and hide you from them. It's funny, but you had to tell him that his teammates weren’t gonna do anything to her. One person he gets really angry at is Oikawa, and after a slight incident, Oikawa now does not come near you anymore. Other than this, he’s not a relatively jealous person.

K = Kisses (what are their kisses like?) It depends. He can be gentle, he can be rough. He finds it hard to crouch down all the way to your lips, so he kisses you on top of your head a lot. When he does kiss your lips, it's usually a quick peck or just a full out makeout session. He’ll kiss his favourite part of you a lot, whether it be your nose or your hand or whatever you think is your unique feature. You like his kisses because he doesn’t do it a lot and it feels special whenever he does it. Whenever you kiss him, you probably need to stand on your tiptoes, and once your lips meet he doesn’t want to let you go.

L = Little ones (how are they around children?) Kids find him scary but he doesn’t know that so he doesn’t understand when they always hide from him. He’s kind of like Ushijima. He tries to make an attempt to play and talk with kids if you ask him to, but the kids don’t like him so they don’t reply or anything. But if there was a kid that did like him, he’ll probably have them hitting cross spikes and service aces by the end of the day. It all depends on the kid, but Tobio will definitely try his best around little ones if it benefits him. Only if it benefits him.

M = Mornings (how are mornings spent with them?) He’s usually up and about at, like, 5am. He goes for a jog, watches some games on the TV, tries to make breakfast, and then wakes you up at around 7 or 8am. He doesn’t let you sleep in unless you're really tired, because he wants you to have a healthy lifestyle by sleeping early and waking up early. Your mornings are always spent apart unless he drags you out for a run or if he sleeps in as well (after a game).

N = Nights (how are nights spent with them?) He either goes to sleep really late or really early. If it’s early and you go to sleep after him, he unconsciously wraps his arms around you and you guys stay like that till he wakes up. If it’s late and you go to sleep before him, he admires your face and purposely wraps his arms around you to keep you warm. There has never been a time where you haven’t woken up in his arms.

O = Open (how long would it take them to be open with you about themselves?) He didn’t talk about his ‘king’ phase until you tentatively brought it up. He isn’t the type to bring something up first, and rather waits for you to mention it. It doesn’t matter how long it’s been since you guys started dating or started being friends, he’ll answer every one of your questions honestly because he thinks there’s no reason to hide anything if you’re gonna know it in the future anyway.

P = Patience (how easily angered are they?) Tobio is not a patient person. He’s very short-tempered unless he’s on the court, and he finds it hard to control his anger (especially whenever Hinata provokes him). He can get upset easily, but usually he’s just confused and tries to hide it. With you, he tries to be more patient and relaxed.

Q = Quizzes (how much do they remember about you?) EVERYTHING. No cap, he remembers EVERYTHING, even the things that you can’t remember. He makes mental notes whenever you mention something you like or dislike, and knows if you're uncomfortable with something. You might not like something but smile and say, “that’s fine!” and he’ll immediately go “no, it’s not. Last week, during lunch, you said you didn’t like it. Let’s go somewhere else/let’s do something else.” He knows your favourite colour, favourite hobby, favourite animal, birthday, favourite food, favourite book series, favourite type of scented markers, favourite flower, heck, even your favourite brand of hair shampoo.

R = Remember (what was their favourite memory of your relationship?) Your first kiss, and when you said “I love you too” to him before the game against Shiratorizawa. You kissed him after Karasuno won, making him even happier. Now, it's a tradition that you guys kiss before and after every game, no matter what the results are.

S = Security (how protective are they of you?) He knows what you're good at and what you're not, so he’ll either leave you be or insist that he helps you when you’re doing something. He also shields you from Hinata, Noya, and Tanaka, because he believes that they’ll accidentally suffocate you or something. He’s willing to throw punches at anyone who touches or speaks to you inappropriately, although most of the time they run off after seeing his scary face. He doesn’t want to be too protective, but sometimes he can’t help it and understands why you sometimes ask him for space.

T = Try (how much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?) Tobio either forgets until two hours before the event, or starts planning a month before. If it's a huge event like an anniversary, he makes sure that everything is perfect and tries his best to impress you. He consults with Suga about what he should do for surprise dates and anniversary parties, and he’s extremely nervous that you might find out/you might not like it, so he pours all his knowledge into planning. For a date, he doesn’t dress up or anything unless you ask him to. He’s pretty chill and lazy with dates, especially if you’re the one planning it. If he’s the one planning it, it’s the same as before - frenzied planning, secrecy, surprises, and more. He puts effort into everything that involves you.

U = Ugly (what are some of their bad habits?) He tends to scare you with his temper a lot, so he’s trying to get that under control. Some other random habits probably include hyper fixating on volleyball and nothing else, shaking his leg, biting his lips, and tugging at his hair aggressively. The main thing he’s working on is his temper and volume/tone of voice when talking to you.

V = Vanity (how concerned are they about their looks?) The only thing he cares about is staying fit. He works out everyday, and files his fingernails to make setting easier. He doesn’t care if he gets acne, or how his hair looks, or if his clothes are wrinkled. As long as it doesn’t disturb his physical health, he has no care for his outer appearance (but still manages to look pretty every day!).

W = Whole (would they feel incomplete without you?) Definitely. After meeting you, you became a part of him. Without you, he goes back to his tyrant self. Without you, he feels like there’s no one that truly understands him. Without you, he feels misunderstood, and he has no one to actually talk to. Even if he loves volleyball and has limited time spent with you, he treasures every moment with you because you’re what keeps him going every day and night. Even volleyball won’t feel the same without you.

X = Xtra (an extra headcanon about them) You help tutor him because he’s a dumbass that can’t even get double-digits in tests. Either before or after practice, you guys meet up and you run him through all the topics learnt that day. His personal punishment is 15 finger pushups if he gets a question wrong. Unsurprisingly, he’s done a lot of pushups ever since you started tutoring him.

Y = Yuck (what are some things they wouldn’t like?) He probably hates plain cheese pizza.

Z = Zzz (sleeping habits?) He air-sets when he sleeps. One time, you woke up for a drink of water and saw Tobio with his hands up in the air, doing air-sets and mumbling “dumbass Hinata! Snrrkkk zzz…run faster! Jump higher!” He also moves around and twitches a lot. He once woke up on the other end of the bed, and since he holds onto you while he sleeps, you woke up on the other end as well.

Very Human Feelings • Ch. 1

You weren’t sure when you started finding feathers randomly throughout your apartment. You’d initially thought they were coming from your down comforter and pillows but, that idea left you when you noticed how pristine white they were. You didn’t think you’d seen a more stark shade before in your life. Not only were they an unnatural shade of white, they were quite large, too. None of the feathers in your comforter and pillows were that large nor that white.

It had been going on for a little over a month when you spotted one next to your bed after coming home from work one evening. Only this feather was slightly longer than your forearm - from fingertip to just past your elbow. By now you were worried. How could a feather that long, that beautiful, have ended up perfectly at the side of your bed? As you held it, you pondered, running your fingernail back and forth, grazing against the spine of the feather before your eyes went wide and you stood still. That’s when you heard it. As you sat frozen in place, your eyes grew wide at the thought that someone was in your safe spot, your home. It sounded like someone gasped in your apartment. Your hand that was holding the feather was now shaking as tears lined the rims of your eyes.

“H-hello?”

You felt stupid. Who willingly calls out into their dimly lit apartment to the very probable bogey man intruder? Twiddling the feather between your fingers, you took a few tentative steps outside your bedroom, head looking from side to side. Stepping out into the living room you let your eyes take a fleeting sweep across the place. Nothing. Tiptoeing into the kitchen also revealed the same. That left one more room to check, the scariest one if you were honest. Taking care to not step on the floorboards you knew would creak and groan, you made your way to the bathroom to check once more.

Flicking on the light showed there was nothing, no one you could see or sense but, that left your shower which could be a likely hiding spot. With a gulp and a shaky hand reaching for the curtain, you swiftly pulled it back as though ripping off a bandaid to get it over and done with. You flinched back, your eyes squeezed shut in anticipation. But, when nothing happened, you slowly opened your eyes and again, saw nothing. Nothing but an empty and well kept shower that you had cleaned the other day. Could you have been hearing things after a long day of working the museum? That was very likely.

You walked back into your bedroom and placed the new feather in the vase with all the other ones you’d found throughout your apartment during the past month. You were impressed that this new feather was taller than the vase as it hung off the side of it, making a new decorative piece in your room. You sighed as you eyed your collection. Maybe unwinding from the day would do you some good. After having an uneasy shower, you made your way to your bed, turning down the blankets before diving into your comfy sanctuary for a night of much needed sleep.

Letting out a yawn that made your eyes tear, you reached over to your night table for your bottle of melatonin gummies. Popping a couple in your mouth, you chewed them, the strawberry flavor a pleasant taste in your mouth as you closed the bottle back up. Placing it down on your night table once more, you reached for your tablet to continue reading the latest web comic you were infatuated with. You were hoping to get to the bombshell of a reveal they had been hinting at the last few chapters.

Well, it hardly mattered because within a half an hour you were knocked out with the tablet laying against your ribs just under your breasts when a hand reached out to grab it from your limp grasp. Golden eyes monitored the rise and fall of your chest as you breathed differently in sleep, slower, gentler, watching for any change that would indicate that you were stirring. As his large hand griped the tablet, your head suddenly moved, turning from right to left as you adjusted. The man standing next to you stilled while half his body became invisible, incredibly large white wings behind his back fluffed out as he panicked. Once you stilled again, he detected your breathing had gone back into its slow rhythm of sleep. He willled his body to become visible once more as he quickly grabbed your tablet off you, plugging it in to charge as he’s watched you do hundreds of times before, placing it down on your night table before retreating back to the reading nook bench you had made in the deep window sill.

He watched you as you slept, peace washing over him as the comfort of sleep overtook you. He’s been watching over you more than usual lately and he’s not entirely sure why, but, there was a nagging feeling he couldn’t quite put his finger on. Was it oncoming danger? Was it just an unnatural worry that his kind tended to harbor for their wards? He just didn’t know. All he knew was that he needed to watch over you, and if that meant he needed to skip out on some key meetings up in the Heavenly Realm, so be it. He was fine with that. He was assigned to you, he’d see his job through in making sure you were safe as he silently nodded to himself.

“Keigo?”

Golden eyes widened as his snowy white wings flared out into dangerously sharp points.

“Relax, it’s me, Raphael.”

Keigo relaxed a little, rising from his place in your reading nook to meet the new entity who appeared in your bed room.

“Hey, what’s going on? Why are you here?”

Raphael sighed with a roll of his eyes.

“Are you kidding me? You missed the big meeting and Dad’s very mad about it.”

Keigo’s shoulders slumped s little, head hung low to not meet sharp blue eyes.

“I’m sorry but, I had something important to attend to. I’ll make it up to Him, I’ll go speak to Him directly.”

Raphael’s own wings shook in disapproval.

“Something important? Something important, Keigo? What in the blazes are you thinking?!”

“Would you shut your mouth, Raph?! She’s sleeping!!”

“She cannot hear us!!! Oh. Oh! You have got to be kidding me, Keigo.”

Keigo’s head tilted to the side, straw blonde hair moving with him.

“You remember what happened to Samyaza, right? Right?!”

Raphael was now leaning towards Keigo, anger etched into his features.

“What happens to angels who get too close to their wards?”

Keigo’s eyes widened, darting between your sleeping form and Raphael in worry.

“I-it it it it's not like that! I just have a feeling is all, I-!”

“You have a feeling? What kind of feeling?”

Keigo hated feeling like he was being picked apart, especially under Raphael’s gaze. He was a respectable, high ranking angel who always carried out his work with the quickest efficiency that always yielded nothing but the best results.

“I-I… I just feel like something bad is going to happen is all. That’s it, nothing more.”

Raphael took this time to look Keigo over, looking for any hint that he could be lying to him. He detected nothing. Keigo knew he was using his power on him, looking deep into his heart for any lies being told. Raphael let out a quick breath, thankful he was telling him the truth.

“Hmm. And you were going to report your feelings when?”

“When I was absolutely sure.”

Raphael looked around the room, seeing your sleeping form completely undisturbed at the fact that they were in your space having a slight argument. Blue eyes continued to look around before falling on the vase filled with Keigo’s feathers.

“You’ve been here a lot. Too much.”

Keigo followed his gaze and froze.

“Only to serve as a lookout in case of danger.”

Raphael looked back at Keigo with dead seriousness in his eyes.

“You’re leaving traces of your - no, our existence in her home. You’ve left a feather that large around for her to see? Limit your time here, Keigo. I know she’s your ward, I know you care what happens to her, but, you need Dad’s permission to interfere should there even be a threat towards her. Yeah?”

Raphael’s look softened a little as Keigo listened to what he had to say,

“You’re my best friend, more importantly my brother, Keigs, even Uriel is worried about you. I don’t want to see you cast out of paradise at the expense of some… some human. Yeah, Dad loves them all to bits, but they're fallible, weak. They die easily. They’re both resilient and fragile all at the same time. Don’t follow in the footsteps of Samyaza and don’t even get me started on Lucifer. Our love of humans should only go so far after what happened all those millennia ago. Do not cross that line in chase of things we were never meant to have. Let the humans love one another and let us continue to do our work and interfere where and when we’re needed and focus on our own. C’mon, I see the way Zadkiel looks at you!”

Raphael placed a hand on Keigo’s shoulder, giving a gentle squeeze.

“Yeah. Yeah, I get it. I mean, it’s not like that but, I get it and Zad’s got eyes for Galadriel. They’re a much better match. Is everything alright back home?”

He wanted to change the subject so badly, talk about anything other than why he’s been here in your apartment so much or Raph trying to get him together with Zadkiel for the umpteenth time.

“Well, some of the other angels have been talking about you. Some of them are starting some rumors that yours truly has gone and quashed, you’re welcome very much.”

“What? What are they saying?”

At this, Keigo was actually quite worried.

“Some are saying that you’re falling from grace because you’ve gone and fallen for a human. Some are even placing bets on the next time they see you that your wings will be darker than they last saw you - to see you brimming with sin.”

Keigo’s wings ruffled hearing this, fanning open and coming forward for a good look at them.

“But, they’re just fine! They know I’m a good worker!! I’d never throw my grace out for a human. For any human.”

“Well, why don’t you come back home with me now and put Dad’s worries at ease, then? Also, coming back with me will make our lower level brothers and sisters shut their mouths and have a lesson in doubting their elders. Dad would hate to see them doing such things like that anyway.”

Raphael grinned at Keigo, hand held out to him before a shimmery mist began forming behind his own beautifully large wings. Keigo looked from you back to Raphael and then back to you, not reaching to take Raph’s hand.

“Really?”

Keigo gave a charming angelic smile and declined.

“I’m not done here. I’ll head back home when I am, I promise.”

With a heavy sigh, Raphael dropped his hand and shook his head.

“Alright, man. Alright. But, don’t come and complain to me if Dad rips those wings off… one feather at a time.”

At that, Keigo winced. Raphael smiled sinisterly as for a brief moment thousands of individual eyes opened on each of his feathers, each one spinning around maniacally before Keigo sucked his teeth.

“I promise, I won’t. And stop trying to scare me, I’ll-I’ll handle Dad, don’t worry.”

Raphael closed every eye but the two on his face, winking to Keigo with a chuckle.

“Whatever you say, trouble maker. Later, baby brother.”

Keigo watched as Raphael stepped into the shimmery mist, disappearing entirely before the shimmers dissipated. He finally felt he could relax once more now that he was alone with you again. He’d headed back to his place to watch you sleep, alone with his thoughts. As the hours passed, he stayed watching you, golden eyes never leaving you as you turned and made sounds throughout the night.

At some point, you began making noises that Keigo had heard you make before. He knew what this meant, it seemed you had nightmares frequently. He got up and walked to the side of your bed, watching as your face changed slightly before an entirely different sound came out from you.

You moaned.

Keigo has never heard this sound from you and he immediately worried your nightmare was causing you pain. He reached a hand out, determined to have calm wash over you with his powers. As he’d done countless times before, he reached his hand to your head and began seeing into your mind, seeing your nightmare. Only, he suddenly flinched back as though electricity had shocked his hand.

“Agh!”

Sweat began to bead at his temples as he warred with himself to look into your mind again. Seemed it didn’t matter what he thought because his hand was already reaching out to your forehead without ever having checked in with him. As he’d done before, he began reading your mind and seeing your dream which he now knew wasn’t a nightmare.

Keigo watched as you were being bent over a kitchen counter that wasn’t your own - the whole place in your mind wasn’t one he knew at all. However, he did know the man who was actively thrusting into you so hard that he could hear the way your naked skin would squeak against the marble top as the force of it pushed you upwards. This man you were currently dreaming of is your now ex. Keigo had been there the day he had brought another woman into your apartment, into your bed where you had caught the two of them together. He was also there, standing next to you as you broke down and kicked both of them out, ending the relationship right then and there. He was proud of you back then, had hugged you when you dropped onto your couch after the scumbag left with his chosen sidepiece and you wept into your throw pillow. You hadn’t dated anyone since then, choosing to throw yourself headlong into your work and be more social with your friends instead and the change had done you some good in the long run. Then why in the hell were you dreaming about this absolute waste of space at a time like this? And so… so graphically, too?!

Keigo couldn’t rip his hand away from your forehead. It was as if some sort of force had glued his hand there and would not free it for anything. He watched as you moaned, driving yourself back to meet the man’s thrusts before he bowed over you, consuming you whole as his larger frame draped over you.

“Where do you want my cum? Hm? Tell me where you want it, baby.”

Your breathing was heavy along with his own and you managed to finally say something,

“Inside, fuck, please! Cum inside me!!”

Keigo watched as a devious grin spread across the man’s features before his head whipped over to the side, causing Keigo to take in a sharp breath.

“You watchin’, “Holy One”? Watch. This is gonna make her fuckin’ soaked. Too bad you can’t ever have a taste.”

Your ex reached an arm around to your front, toying with your clit. The moan you let out at that was porn worthy and Keigo’s mouth went dry as you began to slam yourself back to meet his harsh thrusts. Your ex turned his head once again to look Keigo in the eyes, glowing indigo irises meeting golden hues and with one last thrust, your ex grit his teeth and came inside you, his eyes rolling to the back of his head and causing you to whimper in reality. The sound had Keigo both focusing on your physical form while also still seeing your dream. In the physical world, you were now squeezing your thighs together, your hand balled with a fistful of your quilt. The man in the dream refocused and once again looked to where Keigo would’ve been standing, grinning before the dream started to dissipate entirely.

His hand finally left your head and he registered that he was all out of sorts. He’d never seen anything like that, hell, he’d never felt anything like that before and it worried him. But, worry wasn’t all that was there. He was startled, almost scared, his heart beating a mile a second as he breathed rapidly. Of course he knew of humans having sex. It was a giant piece to the pie of human life, to procreate. However, he’s never seen you with anyone, never heard you like that before. He’d always given you space in your “alone time”, so he’s never even been there for that and now he’s seen some very private part of you that he should’ve never seen. To be fair, he thought you were having another nightmare. And that man, your ex, was the cause of the majority of them. Which is why he didn’t understand why you were dreaming about him in this way to begin with.

There was a new feeling blooming within him that he didn’t even realize until he thought about it more. Was this… jealousy? Surely not. Angels cannot feel jealousy. Well, Lucifer did. And Morningstar ended up paying for it with the ultimate price: Being driven out of Paradise. His brother, his friend, was gone and had not been home since all those millennia ago. This new feeling made Keigo absolutely sick. He’d never wanted to fight a human before now and what he’s just seen was still replaying in his own mind.

“Maybe this was a mistake. Maybe for the first time ever, Dad has made a mistake and I’m not cut out to be a Guardian after all.”

Keigo went to sit down at the nook again, brilliant wings curled around him as he watched you again, this time taking you in quite differently than he had just a mere ten minutes ago. As he thought more about the dream, his newfound jealousy had turned into pure unadulterated anger. How had that sleaze known where Keigo was viewing from? And the more he thought about it, the more it became clear that that was no normal dream. The more he recalled, he remembered that the actual eyes of your ex did not fit the man’s eyes in the dream. That was an entity that was controlling your dream and that feeling Keigo had felt before, the one of coming danger, increased tenfold at the realization.
