Too late to turn back, I shut it all out regardless

I’m already a coward, don’t see why I care

But telling you these things would only be fair

I can’t stay,

Don’t want to go

If I leave then I’ll never know

Heart of glass,

Cold heart of stone

We’d be better off if I was alone

I’m sorry but I promise you this is better

ok, but imagine one of lityerses friends (perhaps a prince in a neighboring kingdom, it's so hard to forget that lityerses is a CROWN PRINCE) also managed to escape through the doors of death, comes across the waystation, meets lit and his s/o, starts flirting with s/o, and lit gets jealous - the lit simp

Guess what? I’m back :D Anyways, hi!! Here is a little drabble. Aristagoras was a real person in circa 6-5 century BC Anatolia. I tried to find the way to pronounce the ancient Greek for ethereal, but I couldn’t figure it out and had to settle for Google translations, I’m sorry about that. Anyways, without more notes:

He had arrived only a few hours before sunrise that morning. At first, Lityerses was excited to see him standing in the entryway of the Waystation. His closest friend from the Old World had stood in front of him, alive and grinning like he used to.

“What- How- Arista?” He had asked. The man in question saw him and his grin grew, as if it were possible, and ran full speed towards him. After a kiss on the cheek, Aristagoras began spilling words that wove a tale of him sneaking out the Doors of Death and then bargaining with Thanatos that he could stay alive if he found his way to the Waystation.

“Ah, Lityerses, I’m so glad to see you.” He had said. It was a miracle and a wonderful moment. One that is quickly devolving into a regretful one.

Lityerses scowls at the seeds in his left hand as he listens to yours and Aristagoras’ conversation.

“Then, of course, I invited him to try and take the crown from me by force. Needless to say I embarrassed him in front of the entire city-state.”

You laugh politely at his story and glance over to Lityerses whose mood you noticed began growing sour.

“You’re really attractive, you know.” Arista says, drawing your attention back to him. “In our time, we’d call you aitherios.”

You glance at Lit out the corner of your eye and notice the grass under his feet browning. A pleasant warmth ran through you as you realized he was jealous.

“And what does that mean today?” You ask.

“Ethereal.” Aristagoras pauses his planting and looks up at you through his dark eyelashes. “I know I’m a little out of date, but I would like to begin a cour-”

“Hey, Y/N, when did Emmie want us back down?” Lityerses calls out. Your attention shifts to your boyfriend and when you meet his eyes, your stomach drops. His dark eyes are steely and there’s a quiet anger under the surface, teasing anyone close enough to try and crack the surface to see what’ll happen.

“Oh, um, we could probably go down now.” You offer then stand up, gathering the hand shovel and trowel to set them back in the equipment tub. As you walk away, you hear the two boys starting to talk.

“They’re really sweet, do you think they’d like a sonnet?” Aristagoras asks.

“They probably would, but unfortunately for you, they’re taken.” Lityerses spits out. It’s quiet and you think that’s all there is to it, but then a hand turns you around and Lityerses kisses you as if staking his claim on you. When you part, a laugh bubbles out of your throat and you push your face into his shirt.

“He’s gone.” Lit whispers after a moment. You shake your head, still not pulling away.

“So you’re a jealous type, huh?” You tease him. He wraps his arms around you.

“I can’t explain it, but I wanted him away from you as soon as he started talking to you.” He says. You hum and then lead him down the stairs for dinner.

As you enjoyed my message about petrichor, I figured I would share some of my other favorite words.

Submitting the post as it will be too long for a standard message.

Pluviophile: (n) A lover of rain; someone who finds joy and peace of mind during rainy days. Derived from the Latin Pluvio- relating to rain or rainfall, and phile meaning a person having fondness for a specific thing. 

"In a land of palm trees and a time of eternal summer, the destiny of a pluviophile rested in the fickle hands of the clouds."

Mellifluous: (adj) A sound that is sweet and smooth, pleasing to hear. Originating from the Latin mel for honey, and fluere for to flow, which became mellifluus, being changed to mellifluous with the addition of -ous in the late 15th century. 

"We were so tired that even the constant rustling of leaves sounded mellifluous to us."

Ineffable: (adj) Too great to be expressed in words. Originating from the latin in- for not and effabillis, changing to effable in late Middle English.

"I had forgotten all; I knew not what was passing in me; with my soul rather than my senses, I breathed an air of ineffable sweetness."

Sonorous: (adj) An imposingly deep and full sound. Origin is not fully clear, but believed to originate from the Latin word sonor meaning sound and moved to be sonorus in later Latin dialects, changed to sonorous in the early 17th century.

"In person he was tall and had a long beard; his voice was sonorous, and his eyes flashed fire"

Ethereal: (adj) Extremely delicate, light, not of this world. Originated from the Greek aither/aitherios meaning ether, adopted into Latin, and then translated into English with -al  in the early 16th century.

"Her hair fell softly around her face and she had an ethereal glow about her."

Syzygy: (n) an alignment of celestial bodies. Originating from the Greek sun- meaning with or together and zeugnunai to yoke, combining into suzugos meaning yoked or paired, then changed to suzugia. Translated through into Latin and came to syzygy in the early 17th century.

"She is not one-in-herself, but acts as a female counterpart or syzygy to some male."

Vellichor: (n) the strange wistfulness of used bookshops. No for sure origin as it seemed to be created by John Koenig within his creation "The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows" which was made to fill gaps in the English language that do not seem to have the proper word to describe a certain emotion.

"The moment the scent of lignin hit her nostrils she was overcome with vellichor."

Defenestration: (n) formal/humorous -the act of throwing someone out of a window. Informal - the action of dismissing someone from a position of power or authority. Originating from the Latin de- meaning down from and fenestra meaning window, turned in defenestratio, then defenestration in the early 17th century.

"Death by defenestration has a venerable history."

"The victory resulted in Churchill's own defenestration by the war-weary British electorate."

Iktix walked into the room with Talian, terrified of what the sentence would be. The only relief she had was that she would not be facing her own council for the period of time that she would be deployed for this mission. But it did little to quell her fears of the High General and the others she would meet. The High General was almost on the same level as the High Chief’s, he could have easily passed judgement on her for her rebellious  actions. She knew that the only reason that he did not do so was because of the current state the world was in and the stance her major species has taken in the war.
