My personal take on Patrochilles is that they are both lovers AND friends. You know how a relationship often starts with a friendship first??? Well they never grew out of the friendship part of their relationship. But their relationship is neither romantic nor platonic. They just,,, are. There was never strictly a time where they stopped being platonic and started being romantic - the lines of the nature of their relationship are really blurry - as they grew older they just started displaying affection in different ways. There was never a need to put a label on their relationship. Because like,, why have Achilles lose just a friend or just a lover - when he could lose a lover, a friend, a best friend, a brother, a comrade, a partner-in-crime ALL in one??? Really drives home the idea of Achilles' grief and rage - he literally lost the man who was everything to him.

i think im very normal about things and very accepting of other peoples’ opinions but then someone very strongly misunderstands/poorly categorizes a character i love from a show/movie/book i love and i feel myself start to fill with rage so hot it burns my veins as it spreads through my body as if it’s taking over of every part of my very essence and clawing at every nerve and screaming nonono until i blink, roll my eyes, and scroll past and then i think maybe im not very normal

I always assumed that Nathan is described as barefoot because shoes are the hardest clothing evidence to get rid of- Shirts and Pants can be burned but shoes are tougher and they carry soil particles that can tell you were the killer was from. It also emphasizes that by going down those steps with the intent to kill Niel that Nathan is bringing his own death upon himself as taking off your shoes is often done before a suicide.

you see that all makes so much sense and i absolutely completely agree with you - the perspective about him bringing his death upon himself is so interesting. Like he was too comfortable in some ways, expecting it to go easily, in his own home with no shoes on. He's too relaxed.

but all i keep thinking about is what if he stubs his toe. neil could've kicked him real hard or stomped on his foot and that shit would've hurt like hell. I'm sure he's used to worse than a stubbed toe but like. owie
