Helloo anon. I hope you're doing well today. Thanks for being my first ask! And totally of course.
I've been wanting to write for her, so we have Jealousy hcs for Coral Glasses!!

Firstly, I think dating her would be like a business transaction or signing up for a timeshare. She has a schedule for work time and being with you time. If you two work together, she might act entirely differently with you whenever you're clocked in and clocked out. During work hours, it's like your typical awkward 1-minute convo with a coworker as you accidentally make eye contact in the break room or look at each other as you walk past their cubical.
"Oh, uh, I'll have that faxed to you in just a second."
"Ah, that meeting was... interesting, right?"
Then you two leave work and it's like a switch flipped. She'll lock arms with you or hold your hand, albeit timidly and say, "Ah, honey. Pretty productive day today, right? Let's go drink and get food." Or, "I missed you while we were at work. Let's just get home already and relax. I recorded our show!" Very mundane things, but they're nice nonetheless.
When she gets jealous, it might be hard to tell at first. It may just seem like she's being short with you as always because of the work environment. Or maybe she had a migraine again from faxing papers out of her scalp. But, then you pick up on a few things. You'll happen to look over to your side while you're chatting with a secretary or a co-worker who's being a bit too friendly with you to be appropriate for a workspace and see her side-glancing at the two of you with her eyebrows furrowed. Mainly the co-worker. But, she will look away if she notices you caught her.
You might spot her later on "accidentally" bumping into that co-worker, making them drop their papers or spill their coffee. Then she'd say sorry with an faux apologetic expression that soon morphs into one of annoyance once they walk past. Or shooting them looks as she talks to you like she's trying to reassert the fact that you're taken by her into their minds.
If you're the oblivious type, she'll definitely get defensive on your behalf. How dare someone try and kindle their sticks where a fire is already burning? This is not safe for work. If you're not, and you picked up on it yourself, however.. you can reassure her by telling the person off while you're sure she's watching. A different approach of just calming Coral Glasses nerves directly and ensuring her that you are not interested in their advances would work better for the non-confrontational types. She is a bit insecure, after all. What if you leave her for a non-sweaty person without a marine invertebrate protruding from their eye? She appreciates you considering her concerns, and overtime will grow out of it as she becomes more sure of herself.
If the two of you go out with the other employees after work, she will uncharacteristically keep an arm around you. Not tightly as she isn't unhinged enough to let her jealousy blind her into accidentally hurting you, but it's obviously not meant to be subtle. She'll make little passive aggressive comments towards anyone she deems to be flirting with you.
Someone laughing too hard at your casual joke? "Oh, Y/N! You're so funny!" She'd being stewing in her ever growing annoyance as she sips her drink before responding for you. "Yeah, I agree. My partner IS pretty funny, aren't they?"
It gets worse as she gets drunk, and you'll have to pull her away before she smashed a bottle against the table and threatens whoever the perpetrator is with the jagged end.
Reassuring her while drunk is way harder than when she's sober. She'll be slurring her words, making dramatic declarations about how she won't let anyone home wreck her entirely professional relationship with you. "Entirely professional", she called it while having her shirt entirely unbuttoned and two empty bottles of soju in each hand. Or, she might just start crying. The drunken embarrassment is too much for her to contain, and she'll hide her face from you while chastising herself in Korean. Either way, the best bet is to get her home, cleaned up, and calmly reassure her as you're both getting ready to sleep. She'll probably avoid eye contact with you and everyone else the next day out of humiliation, but towards the end of the day you'll get a quiet, "Thank you.... Sorry for acting so.. unprofessional last night."
So, as your relationship continues she'd probably grow less envious of others who flirt with you. Just as long as she's not drunk. She'll still chew someone out for hitting on you if she's drinking while she witnesses it. Be prepared to drag her away..

INCREASING YOUR ATTENTION SPAN
DAILY MEDITATION. Meditation is known for increasing focus and concentration. Try to increase the minutes you meditate each day, limiting the number of times your mind wanders/
DRINK BLACK TEA. Black tea contains L-theanine which affects the part of your mind which helps with focusing.
LIMIT DISTRACTIONS, especially those around you. Phones, TV, background noise, or bustling scenery are not the best features for a productive session. A calm, quiet, minimalist area is ideal.
TAKING SHORT BREAKS BETWEEN. Your brain needs time to recharge and refocus on the task at hand. Some ideas are taking a short walk, meditating, reading.
START DOCUMENTING THE TIMES WHEN YOUR MIND WANDERS. This helps you to be more aware of anything that may need to change. E.g my mind wanders more in the afternoon than at night, so I’ll do most of my work in the afternoon.
REGULAR EXERCISE. When there’s more blood in the brain, our concentration increases, so be sure to find ways to get your body moving and blood pumping.
CREATE A MINIMALIST WORKSPACE. Remove distracting decor, add reminders of anything productive and make it comfortable enough that you focus for long periods.

The apartment was quiet, save for the occasional scratch of your pen across your apple-themed notebook and the low, ambient hum of your calming study playlist drifting from your monitor. On your second screen, Pinterest was open to a board of motivational quotes and dreamy workspaces that felt galaxies away from the chaos inside your mind. The overhead light cast a sterile, white glare across your desk, turning the once-helpful to-do list for university into something far more ominous, a looming death wish masquerading as productivity.
Your eyes burned, the sting of screen fatigue and exhaustion blurring the ink on the page. It was all just... too much.
You didn’t hear the door open, but you felt it.
Caleb’s presence always felt like gravity itself, an invisible pull, warm and grounding, bringing you back to earth when everything else felt like freefall. He didn’t speak right away. He just stood there in the doorway for a moment, quiet and observant, reading the stress etched into your posture: the slope of your shoulders, the way your fingers gripped the edge of your notebook like it might somehow hold the key to surviving exam season with your sanity intact.
Then, wordlessly, he crossed the room, warm hands brushing against your back with featherlight reassurance. He bent down, pressing a slow, steady kiss to the top of your head, grounding you further. Without needing to ask, he turned around and returned with the soft, cat-patterned weighted blanket you kept folded neatly at the foot of your bed.
“Arms up, Pips,” he said gently. You lifted your arms instantly and without question, as if your body already knew to trust his words.
He draped the blanket around you carefully, making sure it sat snug over your shoulders and head. You let out a shaky breath as the weight started to slowly soothe your anxiety. Caleb let out a quiet, satisfied hum and walked back to the kitchen. Soon, the comforting sounds of a kettle and the soft rustle of ceramic cups floated over the low swell of your music.
When he returned, he carried your favourite mug, the one with a faded photo of the two of you at summer camp, grinning with marshmallow-smeared faces—now filled with something warm and green. The soft, creamy scent of vanilla and matcha drifted over to you. He knelt beside you, cradling the mug in both hands before offering it to you.
“How did you know that's exactly what I needed right now?” you murmured, taking the cup.
“You didn’t need to say anything” he said simply, brushing a stray lock of hair from your cheek. “I know that look.”
You took a slow sip, the warmth spreading through your chest, unspooling the knot of tension in your stomach. Caleb reached over to your bedside caddy and, with a practised familiarity that made you blink through the haze, began pulling out your skincare routine. The gesture was so unexpected it made you laugh, breathy and soft, despite the weight of the day still pressing down on you.
He took a wipe and gently cleaned your face, holding your chin steady with the kind of reverence one might reserve for their lover. Then came the serum. He warmed a few drops between his palms and pressed them into your skin, slow and patient. Next were the star shaped pimple patches, stuck on with clinical care and maybe a bit too much pride in his "accuracy". Lastly, moisturiser, smoothed along your cheeks with gentle thumbs and a quiet, “There we go.”
You leaned into his touch, eyes fluttering shut. It was better than any spa treatment—more intimate, more personal. Each motion was a love letter in silence.
Then, without a word, he stood and retrieved your hairbrush, drawing it through your hair in long, slow strokes. The rhythm of it was hypnotic. Your eyes slipped closed again, and you felt yourself begin to unravel.
“Braids tonight?” he asked softly, already parting your hair. You nodded.
He braided with care, his fingers sure and patient, each weave precise, like the intricate styles he used to do when I sat at his feet before school, pleading with sleepy eyes. When he finished, he tied it off with a practised flick and pressed a kiss to your temple. Then he paused and tilted his head, reading your mood like a seasoned pilot charting stormy skies.
“Do you want your comfort movie on?”
You looked at him. “You’ve seen it a million times.”
“I’d watch it a million more times if it helps you feel better,” he said, giving you that crooked smile that always made something in your chest ache and soften at once. “Or I could just recite it for you. I probably could at this point.”
You gave him a small, grateful laugh. “Let’s put it on.” He knew exactly what you needed in that moment, and you were grateful to have someone who understood you so well.
Without protest, he cued it up, dimming the fairy lights until the room was cast in a warm, golden glow. He settled beside you on the bed, pulling you gently against him, one arm wrapped securely around your shoulders as the familiar opening scene flickered to life on the screen.
You sank into him, the weight of the blanket and his steady presence lulling your senses into calm. Warm. Held. Safe. Home.
“Thank you,” you whispered, your voice barely audible over the movie’s gentle score.
Caleb squeezed you gently, his own silent way of saying he was always there for you.
As the movie played on, you felt a sense of peace wash over you, knowing that no matter what happened, Caleb would always be there for you. In that moment, surrounded by the comforting glow of the screen and his presence, you realised that maybe everything was going to be okay after all.

Twenty things I wish I’d known when I started my PhD

Maintain a healthy work–life balance by finding a routine that works for you. It’s better to develop a good balance and work steadily throughout your programme than to work intensively and burn out. Looking after yourself is key to success.
Discuss expectations with your supervisor. Everyone works differently. Make sure you know your needs and communicate them to your supervisor early on, so you can work productively together.
Invest time in literature reviews. These reviews, both before and after data collection, help you to develop your research aims and conclusions.
Decide on your goals early. Look at your departmental guidelines and then establish clear PhD aims or questions on the basis of your thesis requirements. Goals can change later, but a clear plan will help you to maintain focus.
“I don’t need to write that down, I’ll remember it” is the biggest lie you can tell yourself! Write down everything you do — even if it doesn’t work. This includes meeting notes, method details, code annotations, among other things.
Organize your work and workspace. In particular, make sure to use meaningful labels, so you know what and where things are. Organizing early will save you time later on.
It’s never too early to start writing your thesis. Write and show your work to your supervisor as you go — even if you don’t end up using your early work, it’s good practice and a way to get ideas organized in your head.
Break your thesis down into SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and timely) goals. You will be more productive if your to-do list reads “draft first paragraph of the results” rather than “write chapter 1”. Many small actions lead to one complete thesis.
The best thesis is a finished thesis. No matter how much time you spend perfecting your first draft, your work will come back covered in corrections, and you will go through more drafts before you submit your final version. Send your drafts to your supervisor sooner rather than later.
Be honest with your supervisor. Let them know if you don’t understand something, if you’ve messed up an experiment or if they forgot to give you feedback. The more honest you are, the better your relationship will be. Helping your supervisor to help you is key.
Back up your work! You can avoid many tears by doing this at least weekly.
Socialize with your lab group and other students. It’s a great way to discuss PhD experiences, get advice and help, improve your research and make friends.
Attend departmental seminars and lab-group meetings, even (or especially) when the topic is not your area of expertise. What you learn could change the direction of your research and career. Regular attendance will also be noticed.
Present your research. This can be at lab-group meetings, conferences and so on. Presenting can be scary, but it gets easier as you practise, and it’s a fantastic way to network and get feedback at the same time.
Aim to publish your research. It might not work out, but drafting articles and submitting them to journals is a great way to learn new skills and enhance your CV.
Have a life outside work. Although your lab group is like your work family, it’s great for your mental health to be able to escape work. This could be through sport, clubs, hobbies, holidays or spending time with friends.
Don’t compare yourself with others. Your PhD is an opportunity to conduct original research that reveals new information. As such, all PhD programmes are different. You just need to do what works for you and your project.
The nature of research means that things will not always go according to plan. This does not mean you are a bad student. Keep calm, take a break and then carry on. Experiments that fail can still be written up as part of a successful PhD.
Never struggle on your own. Talk to other students and have frank discussions with your supervisor. There’s no shame in asking for help. You are not alone.
Enjoy your PhD! It can be tough, and there will be days when you wish you had a ‘normal’ job, but PhDs are full of wonderful experiences and give you the opportunity to work on something that fascinates you. Celebrate your successes and enjoy yourself.
