Just Wanted You (Levi x Reader)

_____ Pairing: Levi x Female Reader Summary: Levi forgets your birthday, and tries to make it up to you. Warnings: Angst, Fluff [AOT Masterlist] _____
As the sun rose past the horizons that lay past your window you find yourself stir with your body’s all too familiar response to sleep’s fleeting presence. You keep your eyes shut despite the light that slowly illuminates the room to try to salvage the moment of peace if only just for a moment, that is, until, your mind catches up to you. Your eyes now shoot open before a smile quickly reaches the corners of your face.
Today was your birthday.
Now you don’t truly care too much for the prospect of birthdays or governing a whole day to your wants and needs, but you cared about spending time with your partner. Levi. You turn, still smiling, hoping to find him underneath the covers beside you, hoping to share the day with him. However, when you reach out blindly to your side you are met with cool sheets and not even an indentation that he had been lying beside you. When your eyes finally catch up to your movements you falter slightly at the sight of his absence.
A grain of disappointment fills you as your smile momentarily wavers before resuming its place on your face. You let out a sigh but shake your head; you had kept your expectations low, after all, being Captains in the Squad Regiment rarely meant a moment’s rest. It was not rare the number of times you awoke before the daylight or he left before you, leaving the other to awaken alone. Despite that, you had both learned to love in the quiet spaces of time you shared just the two of you, to treasure every fleeting moment that encapsulated your relationship and to protect each other in a world so cruel.
Your eyes move across the room before spotting a note left at your bedside table. ‘I have to run some reports to the higher ups, I should be back by the afternoon. Levi.’ Your heart warms at the sight. That’s right, you think to yourself. Even on previous birthdays, if you hadn’t been able to spend the whole day together, Levi would often make the effort to be with you at least for a few hours during the day to celebrate privately. You didn’t mind; a single moment with him during the day was all you really wanted.
You get up, stretching lightly above your head and taking in a deep breath before deciding to get ready for the day. Unlike Levi, you had been able to snatch a day off from Erwin, who readily gave it to you seeing as you were one of his most valuable soldiers, working hard throughout your time as Captain. You felt excitement fill you again at the prospect of having a free day, a day without paperwork or training or the endless tasks that come with being a leader of the Scouts.
You rush to get ready, quickly washing your face and putting up your hair, selecting casual clothes that had been left in the depths of your wardrobe, unused for several weeks. You leave the confines of your room and almost instantly are greeted by scouts who smile and greet you, surprised to see you in your informal attire. Other scouts you are close with grin and congratulate you on your birthday to which you smile kindly and give your thanks.
Much of your day is spent joyously and you are more than thankful for a day of rest regardless of whether it was your birthday or not. Your breakfast was spent surrounded by your squad who instantly swarms you, with a chorus of, "happy birthday captain," gathering more attention you are flustered at. Much of the morning is spent at the markets in town, deciding to treat yourself to small trinkets and a book that had caught your eye a few weeks ago. You also gather up a bunch of ingredients, deciding that if Levi would come home in the afternoon, you could spend the rest of the day cooking up a nice dinner for the two of you to share.
You didn't mind, you just wanted to spend time with the man you loved.
When you finally get back to Scout headquarters after stopping by the bakery for a quick lunch, it's Hange who approaches you, eyes shining behind their glasses.
"[y/n]!"
They grin widely at you as they approach before swinging an arm around your shoulder.
"Happy Birthday, where's the clean freak today?"
You let out a laugh, "you mean Levi?"
You turn to them as you take out the ingredients you got, getting ready to prepare dinner in the small kitchenette you were in.
"He's gone into town to meet with some of the higher-ups, he should be back later."
There is a brief pause as Hange falters at the fact seeming in contemplation about something. You look up confused by the sudden silence.
“Hange, what's wrong?"
They turn to you before shaking their head as if dismissing something and their grin reaches their face once more.
"Nothing, I just thought Levi had the day off today."
You smile and nod as you start to chop and mix your ingredients, creating your favourite dish for the night.
“Yeah, but he must've had trouble getting it off, after all I've got today off, maybe Erwin didn't want two captains out of the running."
Hange nods slowly in agreement before their energy seems to rush back through them.
"Anyway, what are you making? Need any help?"
Needless to say, the rest of the afternoon was spent in a mixture of laughter and panic as you and Hange ran around the kitchen, food covering your faces. At one point something was burning, something was flying and something had fallen to the floor. You honestly had no idea how the two of you were able to produce a decent meal by the end of it, but there it was in front of you, and it didn't look half bad. You turn grinning at Hange who looks exhausted.
“I think I'll stick to the Titans..."
They mutter and you let out a laugh. The two of you finally finish cleaning up and you say your goodbyes as you carry your food and some tea on a tray to take to your and Levi's room. You feel excitement brimming within you once again at the prospect of finally seeing him today and sharing this moment, just the two of you. As you turn the corner about to enter your room, however, you meet with a pair of bright blue eyes and realise Erwin is approaching you.
"[y/n]”
He smiles kindly as you cross paths, giving you a warm expression you rarely see in the presence of other Scouts.
"Erwin," you nod with a smile as you pause briefly before reaching for your door.
"I just wanted to say Happy Birthday, I hope you and Levi enjoyed your day off."
With that, the blond-haired man is off again, before you can even respond to the words he just spoke. You feel yourself confused as this was the second time someone mentioned Levi taking the day off, and Erwin too?
It must've been a mistake.
You quickly shake your head before opening the door and making your way to the table in the middle of the room. You place your two dishes upon it and set the tea aside, knowing you may have to reheat it a bit later. You look out the window to see that the sun outside is slowly falling to the depths of the horizon once more and wonder if Levi will be back soon. You unconsciously feel your heart warm at the thought, keen to see your lover even though you had just seen him last night.
You sit at the table as the sun touches the ground, bleeding orange into the blue of the sky. You flick through pages of the book you had bought today looking up occasionally, waiting for Levi to appear through the door. You decide to have a few of your favourite sweets as the orange that seeps through the windows slowly dim. Through it all you are simply patient and waiting. Simply giddy at the fact you would see your partner once more. But the hours tick by in his absence and suddenly the excitement starts to dwindle, replaced by disappointment which reshapes into worry.
Where's Levi?
You look out the window to the sky that continues to lose its colour thinking back to the words of the note you had found this morning. ‘I should be back by the afternoon.’ Well, now it was almost evening. You decide to cover your food and put away your drinks, seeing that your hard work might be wasted if it is left openly on the table. You decide to wait a bit longer before you let your anxious thoughts envelop you. And so you do.
You wait.
But you can't help yourself when the moon continues to rise higher in the sky and you see no presence of the man you so adored. A million scenarios mix in your head.
Was he hurt?
Was he in trouble?
Should I go find him?
Where is he?
You find yourself pacing the room at one point, now unable to keep your thoughts at bay. The stars now shine brighter in the pitch-black sky and your heart races as you are unable to sit still in the chair you sat yourself in. You suddenly could care less that it was your birthday, as long as Levi was safe. You are about to get ready to go out and look for him when finally, you hear the click of the door. You find yourself turning quickly, only to see it reveal Levi and his tired form sauntering through the entrance. You rush to him worry etching your face as he looks up at you wearily taking in your form.
"Levi? Are you okay where have you-"
Your words jumble in the air with the hopes that he is okay, but you find yourself momentarily freeze when Levi puts up a quick hand toward you, eyes weary. You frown at the gesture, seeing his tired gaze but not knowing why he was being so dismissive, especially today.
“I’m fine, I was just finishing some paperwork.”
Levi mumbles avoiding your gaze as he walks into the room rubbing at his face.
“Oh.”
You breathe out suddenly feeling your chest tighten; suddenly feeling your worry churn into disappointment once more.
Surely he didn’t-
But you don’t have to contemplate on your thoughts because the evidence is right in front of you. It’s in the way Levi shrugs out of his outerwear and absentmindedly puts himself through his nightly routine. It’s in the way he hadn’t even greeted you with a kiss or even a mere word of affection as he usually did. It’s in the way he barely looks to you.
He had forgotten
You suddenly feel out of place just standing static as you watch Levi walk around the room slowly getting ready for bed. You don’t know what to do or if you should say something when you hear the clock tick closer to midnight: to the end of the day. Your eyes glance towards the meal that was covered but still lay on the table in the room the two of you shared.
Suddenly the exclamations of “happy birthdays” you collected throughout the day weighed heavy on your chest.
Suddenly the carefree day spent treating yourself to gifts felt stupid and childish.
Suddenly the joyful time you had spent with Hange working so hard to make the dinner you both had prepared felt bitter.
What was the point if the one person you treasured most couldn’t even spare the time to realise; to realise how you spent the whole day waiting… for him?
You don’t know if it’s pure misfortune or luck that he looks up to you in that moment and follows your gaze to the meals forgotten on the table.
“What’s this?”
He asks but his voice is muffled in your head, and you can no longer tell if you’re over-exaggerating or not. You look up breaking free of your thoughts, your feet still planted in the same spot it had been for several moments now.
“Oh, I just thought I could make us some dinner, you know, it’s been a while since we did and- would you- would you like to- I-.”
But Levi cuts you off on your offer letting out a deep sigh.
“Look [y/n], I know we’ve been busy lately but can we please not do this tonight, I’m exhausted.”
His words cut sharp across the room and that’s when you feel your heart sink, the final confirmation you needed just to know. You nod, pushing irritation to the side as just sadness fills you. You’re too emotionally drained to allow yourself to speak, so you walk past him and into your bedroom closing the door shut purposely and without a word.
Levi looked up feeling murky vexation and annoyance brim in the air even after your disappearance, but what confuses him most was your blatant show of defeat etched on your face. Sure the two of you had talked about spending more time together as recent events put strains on the hours the two of you would usually spend, but why would you be so defeated today? There wasn’t anything special about the evening. Levi felt bad thinking to the way he had greeted you, so unlike what he usually does but he is exhausted.
He had a bad day.
He had gone into town to give reports to the higher-ups only to find that he had travelled all that way mistakenly; the meeting was not for another week. The rest of the day he had spent trying to be productive but it seemed that peace was hard to come by as the crowded yells of Scouts interrupted his thoughts when he arrived back at headquarters. So, the rest of the afternoon he had spent in one of the unoccupied offices, only to spill his tea upon hours of paperwork, the rest of the night spent fixing the disaster.
Levi lets out a deep sigh, irritation filling his senses as even now it seems he can’t have an ounce of peace today. He couldn’t deal with your cold shoulder tonight, having no energy to fight or prod at your blatant disappointment. So, with a shake of his head he goes to the meals you had prepared going to pack them away for the night. He reaches for them, but that is when his eyes falter slightly at the sight. He recognises the meal instantly.
It was your favourite.
He can’t help but smile slightly at the sight of it remembering back to one of his fondest memories. He remembered, it must’ve been last year when he had gone to a kitchen dead set on making the dish for you. He remembers how you had walked in partway ruining the surprise but exchanging it for an experience he’d treasure. You had seen his struggle with the dish and the two of you had prepared it together before sharing it privately just the two of you.
Come to think of it, why did he go to all that trouble that day?
Levi can’t help but wonder as his mind jumbles as though trying to come to a revelation, not knowing why he suddenly feels anxious at the sight of the food and your swift absence. But then it hits him finally as his heart constricts and then a spark illuminates his thoughts, that ignites panic into his mind.
It had been your birthday.
He remembers it clearly now. The struggle to find an excuse to leave your presence briefly. The swiftness of his movements as he collected the ingredients rushing to a spare kitchenette, hoping to surprise you with your favourite dish.
It had been your birthday.
His mind now reels at the sight and suddenly Levi can’t help but feel as though the paranoid nagging in his mind all day had finally been answered for.
But surely. Surely it wasn’t today…
Levi had never flown across a room so fast in his life. He rips open a drawer in his desk and pulls out his calendar, heart pounding at the sight of the clearly marked date on the page in front of him. He counts back the days and does the math in his head. He realises the reason why he had gone to a meeting a week too early. He realises why everything had been going wrong today. He realises why the scouts had not bothered him for training or why Erwin hadn’t added to his pile of paperwork. He had the day off. He had the dates mixed in his head…
Today was your birthday.
He looks up at the sight of the still closed door in front of him; a symbol of your absence and of your disappointment.
He remembers the sight of your face, crestfallen.
He remembers walking in and through his tired gaze meeting yours that was full of panic, and your worry at where he had been. It wasn’t unusual to come home late but it would be unusual if he had stayed away so long on your birthday.
He remembers his sparse acknowledgement of you, the way he brushed off your efforts and your meal; the way he spoke sharp and dismissive as though you were a mere Scout he was reprimanding.
He remembers the look in your eye, conflicted but simply defeated and drained.
You had been waiting all day for him to come home, to celebrate and he couldn’t even remember for you. Levi felt like an asshole, feels the panic and dread that fills him now like a wave.
He had forgotten your birthday.
Levi moves forward quickly, heart lurching, mind reeling as he hesitates before your door.
What could he do?
What could he say?
He had prepared for your birthday several weeks ago but he had forgotten anyway; a day that he was supposed to spend with you, to devote and celebrate you. Levi opens the door slowly and you hear it. The slight creak of the wooden door as you lay by your side looking to the dark space that meets your tearful gaze. You hear his footsteps slow and remorseful moving towards you but you squeeze your eyes shut hoping he will leave you be, not wanting to fight or feel more of the disappointment you felt today.
You feel the dip of the bed behind you and you know that Levi sits beside you now, you hear his intake of breath and feel the hesitance weigh heavy in the space between you.
“[y/n], I know you’re awake.”
Levi’s voice is quiet as it reaches your ears but you still refuse to turn around emotions clouding your eyes, tears threatening to spill. Levi sighs out before sitting back at your lack of response.
He had really messed up.
“Look…”
You hear the beginning of his sentence once more as you feel the weight of your heart heavy on your chest.
“It’s true, I forgot your birthday, I had it all planned out, but- I fucked up, and… I’m sorry.”
You barely discern the last part of his words as your eyes widen, tears spilling and your form freezing.
Had Levi, the Levi Ackerman, just apologised?
“Please [y/n] just let me make it up to you, whatever you want... I know it's late but-"
Levi hates the silence of the room, hates that he doesn't know how to make it up to you as he picks at his mind trying to think of something to say; anything to salvage the day he had disregarded. But his eyes widen in a strange mix of guilt and relief when you turn to face him. Your tears still linger in the depths of your eyes, and he hates that he's the reason for it. You reach out to him and he instantly responds to your touch allowing you to pull him down towards you.
Levi feels the exhaustion of the day build before retreating at your mere embrace, as he wonders what he ever did to deserve you.
"I just wanted you.”
You mutter out against his form, breathing in his familiar scent, and relishing the company you had missed all day. Levi looks down to you, eyes closed as you press against him, warmth lingering between your bodies. Again, he wonders how he was blessed with someone so forgiving.
"That's cheesy," he murmurs back teasingly and you pout up at him, glossy eyes meeting his.
"Just let me have this."
You say sighing contentedly and relishing his presence, already forgetting that he had forgotten, and too tired to nitpick at the events that had occurred. You knew he had been tired, you knew he would never purposefully hurt you in any way and that included maybe forgetting an event such as your birthday. Levi leans forward and he kisses your lips, and you feel the warmth and softness and familiarity of him moving against you. He deepens it, arms pulling you impossibly closer before finally parting for air.
"I promise I'll make it up to you."
.....
Needless to say, the rest of the night was filled with hours of Levi showing you his love, and the next morning came with the lingering scent of breakfast made just for you. Levi revealed the collection of gifts he had bought a week ago for your birthday, showing he never truly forgot, but the dates had just muddled in his preoccupied mind.
Levi had gotten the two of you the day off once more, finally spending the time promised to you. A time free of the duties the two of you would normally have to respond to and free of prying eyes that restrict the show of your relationship. Overall, it was a good birthday, and the man beside you was proof of that.
But most importantly, Levi made sure to never forget your birthday again.

TF Trade:
I got a huge thing for Cbum right now, fuck that's my dream body, maybe even bigger.
I'd put up with anything to wake up as the Aussie version of him 🤤
Your laptop continued to hum away as you tried and failed to focus on your thesis in the library. Scrolling your Instagram feed, again, you came across a familiar face - but this time on your university's gym account..
"JOIN THE CBUM CHALLENGE! WE MAKE BIGGER: HE MAKES BETTER. No experience required, enlist today!"
You sneered as the questionnaire, the series of commitments, and the final, ominous "Transform Now!" button as it all felt pretty amateur. Brushing it off as a hastily-made last-minute effort from some poor meathead sports marketing student to get some 'first-hand data', you closed the link to focus on getting your own research finished. But yet.. a strange curiosity started to gnaw at you... distracting you again... and again.. until you finally clicked that button.
Moments later, back in your cramped room, a strange sort of tingling sensation began behind your eyes and in your fingertips. As you changed into a loose pair of black shorts and a grey tank, you felt a deep feeling of pressure starting to build, and then a feeling of… expansion.
"CONGRATULATIONS!" your phone started to buzz. "You have been chosen to participate in the program! For your own health, you must report to the gym immediately for your induction."
Your frame began to broaden, your legs reshaped, even your forearms morphed into the chisled veins across taught skin of your idol.
A low groan escaped your lips as the sensation coursed deep within you - it was overwhelming, chaotic, and altogether the most euphoric feeling you had ever experienced. As quickly as it began, the moaning within you became a deep belch, as you felt the last of your core tighten. Ending the very same moment, your screen went black, an equally familiar face staring back at you from the other side. Your consciousness, somehow inhabiting the incredible body, could only stare in stunned disbelief.
"...Fucking hell.”
Notification after notification began to be pushed through to your phone, and you realised that you had no choice but to follow their instructions. Upon arrival at the lab, they informed you that the so-called ‘challenge’ was actually a student-led academic collaboration between your university and CBum himself. Deep tissue scans of his entire body were matched with sensory records and psychological expertise, participants would be able to experience a ‘first-hand CBum experience’ - all through a willing host.
They were running out of time to find one - until you.

All through the night until the next morning the gym's lab staff undertook their thorough monitoring process. Everything from how your body measurements compared with his body, your endurance levels matched his endurance, your knowledge and, as you would come to learn, most importantly: what you were missing from his.
What you didn’t initially anticipate was that this meant the CBum program didn’t just bring over his physical likeness to yours, but also his thought patterns. The lab team proposed that over time, the two would slowly merge into a unique hybrid, but no one could be certain just how much of 'you' or 'him' there would be in the long run.
In exchange for participation in the 'challenge', you’d be rewarded with full 1st class credits for the semester, so long as you spent all of your time maintaining your physique.
You were more than happy to do so. Plus, with so much time in the gym ahead of you, it was only natural that you’d find a well-paying side hustle.
"You're not gonna quit on me that easy, are ya, mate?"
Your new, gruff voice barked at the former lab attendant who inducted you all those weeks ago.
"Let’s start again, shall we? I know you've got it in there. 3… 2… 1”

Castle Solutions was the only time travel company in the world. They had a giant corporate headquarters in downtown Chicago, which was the only place in the entire world with a time machine, at least as far as anyone knew. They were worth hundreds of billions, and the only reason they weren't worth more seemed to be that they didn't care all that much about money. The time machines were used for everything: reporting, media, market corrections, the surveillance state, and industry. Castle Solutions was the lynchpin of the modern world.
Daniel had thought the waiting room would be nicer.
He sat in a blue-gray chair that would have been at home in any waiting room anywhere else in Chicago. Slightly tinny music played over speakers from the ceiling. A fake potted plant sat in one corner, failing to look lively. There were no windows, because the waiting room was deep in the heart of the building, close to the machine itself.
Daniel was the only one in the waiting room. He'd come half an hour early, lugging all his gear, and now the only thing left was for the clock to run down. A bored-looking woman had come in to tell him that it might be awhile, that they were running behind schedule — the time travel company, running behind schedule. So there had been more waiting than expected.
A man in a charcoal gray suit with a simple blue backpack came in. He slung the backpack down onto the ground with a sigh and rubbed his face. He had stubble there, but an artful amount of it, like he'd spent some time in the mirror making sure that it was the right amount of scruff to offset his expensive suit.
Daniel looked straight ahead, trying not to look, keeping his face blank, like he was passing by a homeless person who might ask him for money he didn't have.
"Wow, you've got a lot of stuff," said the man. "Is that a sword?"
"It's a katana," said Daniel. He didn't match the eye contact the man was giving him.
"Oh, cool," said the man. "You're going to ... katana times?"
"Edo Japan, yeah," said Daniel.
Daniel was trying his best not to engage, to get this conversation over as quickly as possible. He wasn't making eye contact.
The man picked up his backpack and moved across the waiting room to be closer to Daniel.
"You speak Japanese?" the man asked.
"Hai, watashi wa nihongo o hanashimasu," replied Daniel. He wished that he were more fluent, that the words had come out less rote.
"Cool," said the man. He had apparently also come closer to get a look at all of Daniel's stuff. His eyes moved over the duffel bags. There wasn't much to see, everything had been carefully packed away. "Wow, you sure are prepared, huh?"
"It's a different time and place," said Daniel with a shrug. It represented five years of planning, five years of training, learning, honing himself.
"Personally, I'm going to 1946," said the man, though Daniel hadn't asked. He held out his hand. "Archie Vedder."
Daniel reluctantly took the hand. "Daniel Strom." He had never really gotten the hang of shaking hands. He worried that his hands were too clammy, a worry that proved founded when Archie wiped his hand on that expensive charcoal suit.
"I went with the kit," said Archie, pointing to his backpack. "I've got papers, I've got a computer with a backup, I've got a projector, a media library, a science library, the whole works, plus some forged bonds and a stack of cash. I got a sweet deal on it, they're overstocked now."
Retreating into the past had seen its heyday. Now most of the people who had been most enthusiastic were gone, and there were only the dissenters left. Everyone agreed with using the machine for the mundane stuff, but simply leaving, never to return, rubbed people the wrong way.
"I guess they don't sell kits for Edo," Archie ventured.
"They do," said Daniel. "They're trash."
"Ah," said Archie.
"This is all custom," said Daniel. "Higher quality, field tested, everything I'll need to set myself up there." Only some of it was stock. He had two computers, three smartphones, chargers and plugs, solar panels, replacement batteries, and redundant media libraries and science libraries.
Archie raised an eyebrow. "What does that mean, field tested? Because people don't come back. You're there for good, right?"
What it actually meant was that Daniel had gone out into a field and tested it, made sure that it worked under various conditions, set himself up like he might be explaining all this to a carefully chosen daimyo. There was only so much that camping in the woods and taking dry run vacations could tell him though.
"Some of it is theory," said Daniel. "Research."
"Yeah, see, that's why I went with 1946," said Archie. "It's really well-trod. You know, I was reading an article the other day that maybe the Baby Boom was a little overstated? Like, we're obviously living in the wake of time travelers, but that's the prime time to come back, anywhere from 1946 to 1960. The economy is doing well, tech is advancing, it's familiar enough. The culture is so close you can sell some stuff from a media library, it's brilliant. You're five steps away from becoming a multimillionaire in a time when that meant something."
"Sure," said Daniel.
"Any reason you're doing hard mode?" asked Archie. "I mean, samurai and ninjas are cool, sure, but —"
"It's not about that," said Daniel.
"Alright, sure," shrugged Archie.
Daniel looked over at the waiting room's lone clock. You would think that a waiting room for a time travel company would have better clocks, but it was a cheap utilitarian design, thin plastic and wobbly hands.
"What's it about then?" asked Archie.
"I was going to go with a friend," said Daniel. "We had practiced together, trained together. Then he got cancer."
"Ah, shit," said Archie.
"He lived," said Daniel. "He's fine. But he's on medications now, and will be for the rest of his life, and he can't go anymore."
"Huh," said Archie. "So there's a friend who you're leaving behind?"
"No," said Daniel. "I mean ... this was what we did together. We talked about it a lot. We read history books and practiced crafts and skills. At the start, I didn't really take it that seriously, it was just a hobby, but I got invested, and I guess I kept seeing it as — I don't know."
"I mean for me, it's a way out," said Archie. "Most people feel that way, yeah? My wife filed for divorce, I got fired from my job, so hey, time to start over in 1946, pretend I'm part of the Greatest Generation, ride the waves I know are coming. Exploit it."
Daniel grimaced. The Vietnam War, segregation, the Red Scare? People had a rosy view of that time. He'd never felt particularly aligned with people like Archie who were just looking to make a quick buck.
"Oh come on," said Archie. "You think you're better than me? You're a, you know, what's the word. Colonizer."
Daniel rolled his eyes. "No."
"What, just 'no', it's not, you know, what we did to the Native Americans?" asked Archie. "The whole 'conquer the past' thing?"
"I'm a single person," said Daniel. "I'm bringing back things that will change their culture forever, but I'm not an agent of my country, and even if I were, I think those people who want to be a god king are morons. And sorry, I'm not spending my last minutes in the present on badly rehashing a debate I've had a thousand times already."
"Why not?" asked Archie. "See, I think having arguments right before you go is great. You can leave on a high note. I've spent the last few days saying whatever the hell I wanted to people. It's great. I went to my dad and said 'hey, you were a terrible father, I never liked you, and it's sad that you thought I needed your approval'. And then you know what's hilarious? I get to just walk away and never be seen again. How's that for a power move? How's that for a mic drop?"
"Seems immature," said Daniel.
"Well, see, I'm actually fine being immature," said Archie with a little laugh. "And when this conversation is done, one or both of us is going into the past, never to be seen nor heard from again, and isn't that great? You don't like me, I don't like you, and then we're strangers again."
Daniel had been looking straight ahead, but he turned to Archie after that. "You don't like me?" he asked. "You don't know me."
"I know your type," said Archie. He leaned back. "You spent what, three years cooking up a plan, making this trip back in time your entire personality, and now you think you're better than me, better than everyone, like you've got it all figured out. You talked yourself into throwing away everything you've got going on here. You got dreams of a future in the past. It's quitter talk, is what it is."
"Fuck off," said Daniel. In his normal life he'd have never said it, but he was on the precipice.
"You think going into the past is going to transform you?" asked Archie. "That another world, a second chance, you'll somehow become the man you think you were supposed to be? Well let me tell you, if you were a loser here, you'll be a loser there."
Daniel stood up and drew his sword. He'd practiced the draw a thousand times. The sword gleamed, even under the ugly fluorescent lighting of the waiting room. "Fuck off, or you'll be going back to the 50s missing a hand."
"Bah," said Archie. "Fine." He stood up and took a seat further away, the same one he'd taken when he first came in. He was bouncing his leg and reading something on his phone.
Daniel was putting his sword back in its sheath when the receptionist came into the room.
"Daniel?" she asked, glancing only briefly at the sword. "They're ready for you."
"Finally," Daniel thought but didn't say, because even though he wasn't going to be around anymore, he believed in basic politeness.
He gathered his things and left the waiting room, ready to leave.
~~~~
Archie sat outside Castle Solutions, in their little courtyard, vaping.
It wasn't long before the receptionist, Lydia, came to sit next to him.
"It didn't really seem like you wanted to convince that one," she said.
"Yeah," he said. "Sorry."
She shrugged and pulled out a vape pen of her own. "Sometimes you just want to yell at someone. I get that. But you're risking us getting caught. And if we get caught in the future, we probably get caught in the present."
"Yup," he said. "Won't happen again."
"Give it a few days before you come back," she said. "Three, let's say. He didn't file a complaint, so there's nothing in the system."
"Mmm," said Archie. He made a long, slow drag of the pen. They sat there vaping together for a while. It had often occurred to him that vaping was impossibly lame, but it felt less lame when done with someone else. He watched as the vapor left her mouth in a thin, concentrated stream. "You wanna go out sometime?"
"On a date?" she asked. She gave the tip of her vape pen a casual look. "No, not really."
"Alright," said Archie.
"I don't really know what your deal is," she said. "Why this is important to you. Why you want to talk people back from the brink, or yell at them."
"Mmm," said Archie. "You want to tragic backstory?"
"Meh," Lydia replied. "I'm not going on a date with someone who has a tragic backstory. That's all. Sorry. I've got my own tragic backstory, thanks very much."
"Fair," said Archie. "It was my kid brother, that's the short version. He up and left one day, left us a note that read like ... well, you know." He drew a finger across his neck.
"Where'd he go?" asked Lydia.
"England, 16th century," said Archie. "He thought he was going to take Shakespeare's place." He shook his head. "Only eighteen, you know? Unconscionable that they let kids that young through. He had his whole life ahead of him and he just ... disappeared."
Lydia sighed. "Yeah."
She turned off her vape pen, then mimed stubbing it out on the bench like a cigarette before slipping it into her purse. He felt a surge of attraction for her.
"Alright, I'll go on the date," said Lydia. "But if we're going to be dating, you've gotta stop this."
"Vaping?" asked Archie.
"You know what I mean," said Lydia. "You going in there trying to convince them to back out, that's one thing. It's noble, almost. But if it's going to be fighting, if it's you trying to work through some shit, then I'm not sticking my neck out for you. Doubly so if you want to get together. You process your trauma some other way, or repress it like the rest of us, alright?"
Archie thought about that for a moment. "Alright. Sure."
"I've got to get back to work," said Lydia as she rose from the bench. "You have my number."
Archie nodded, and after she had left, he stayed, looking out at the courtyard.
He wondered how Daniel was doing out there, in that other timeline, but he supposed that he would never know.
A few weeks ago, after a huge fight, Dean and Castiel decided to end their four year relationship. It's a bad time for Dean all over, not the least because he and Cas can't agree on who gets to keep their apartment. They're caught in the Cold War of the Apartment, where Cas wakes Dean up every morning with mediocre pop Christmas hits. The Cold War of the Apartment reaches a brief detente when Dean gets a call from his mother: Mary is feeling lonely thanks to her recent divorce from John, and this year, she wants all her children to come home for Christmas. Unfortunately for Dean, Castiel is included in that list. Dean reaches an agreement with Cas: if Cas comes with him and pretends that they're still in a relationship, Dean will cede the apartment to him. But if Cas lets out that they're not together, or if he leaves early, then Dean gets the apartment. It's not ideal, but it's the best agreement Dean can fathom. Now all Dean has to do is survive two weeks at Christmas, in close proximity to his ex-boyfriend (who he definitely still has feelings for), while dodging well-meaning friends and family. Super easy. Nothing could possibly go wrong.
Tag Game - Non-sims interests
thanks for the tag @crazy-hazy-sims (i also got tagged by @aching-joints in the five non-sims interests game, so consider this a double up for both (and a little more than five)
i think everyone has put music as an interest, and while i wouldn't really consider myself a music enthusiast i do enjoy a good tune. i'm currently reliving my early years because my other half is listening to Green Day's American Idiot lately, so I'm on a New Found Glory kick. i'm also tone deaf and can't carry a tune, but i'm almost always listening to music.
as for gaming, I am a forever easy-mode player. The foundations for my entire personality was built on Kingdom Hearts. i played when it was first released on PS2 because it had Square Enix on the box and I was just getting into Final Fantasy. i love it, and it's stupidly convoluted story. More recent games I'm big on Baldur's Gate 3 and Vampire Survivors. i'm also in deep in genshin impact (f2p all the way baaaybeee). i've been a massive Dragon Age fan since DA2. I own the official Dorian Inquisition hoodie, the Leliana coat, and the limited edition Varric shadowbox....And FADE KNIFE. i heavily tailor my tumblr fandom experience so i avoid A LOT of drama, but srsly, DA:V got me back into fanfic writing after not doing it since my twenties. DA2 is still my fave, but I just love how i can pick up and play DA:V for a bit (usually until Emmrich calls me dearest and i have to go use a fainting couch)
It's rare i get to indluge it, because adults never have time to actually hang out in friend groups without advanced warning, but I absolutely love playing HeroQuest when I can convince folks to play with me. I have fond memories of my dad playing it with his friends when I was a kid, so being able to GM it now is such a nostalgic feeling. Its a good TTRPG without the extra work like D&D.
OK, so, I'm going to be very honest here; i am an outlier and should not be counted, but Financial Instruments are like, a special interest of mine. Some are entirely made-up, have value only because the market (also made up) says they have value. I will talk about onion futures at the drop of a hat, and while they're awful, i get what crypto is "trying" to do. the products are wild, i will sink into a rabbit hole for the more absurd (weather futures my beloved) types of products, and it is all, realistically utterly pointless and just for "number go up". it's a good thing my job is "report this madness to regulators" ain't it? it's wrong, and the fact that lives are tied to people playing make-believe with numbers is awful, but, ooooohh do i love learning about when they make stupid mistakes.
ART!!! this kind of pulls from above - i love art in theory; people playing make the number go up with some good lightning and a humidifier. i have a degree in fine art; i'm always interested in outlandish, dada-ish mayhem. no, ma'am, your five year old could not make that - the that is the idea, the why, the where, the when - not so much the what. it's why i like financial instruments; why do you need to hedge that commodity with a thirty year interest rate derivative???? I WARNED YOU I WAS WEIRD. in terms of my own art, i do dabble from time to time. i was a teenage furry artist (if you ask nicely, i can show you), and i like drawing and just smooshing paint about. i love sculpture; my degree practice was using papemache and poster paint. i made a giant tentacle monster in uni, it was awesome.
so i'm not very good, but there's something relaxing about knitting that i do enjoy. i don't do anything fancy - my skill set is scarf. but its just so soothing to knit. i'd love to learn to crochet, but my brain can't seem to remember the hand motions once i set it down.
i haven't had time recently, so everything has died, but i both love and hate gardening. i'm not big on fancy gardens with pretty plants, but i was working on getting a kitchen garden going a few years ago before i really had to split my time between home and london. also, my dog ate all my strawberries
i don't care if one would class it as an interest, but i love him and his dumb face:
his name is alan turing and he's a whole three years old.
i think nearly everyone has done this, so ignore me if i tag you and you have - i'm not sure if @ryttu3k if you did???
SpaceTime -- A brief history
SpaceTime is Australia’s most popular and respected astronomy and space science news program – averaging over two million downloads every year. We’re also number five in the United States. The show reports on the latest stories and discoveries making news in astronomy, space flight, and science. SpaceTime features weekly interviews with leading Australian scientists about their research. The show began life in 1995 as ‘StarStuff’ on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s (ABC) NewsRadio network. Award winning investigative reporter Stuart Gary created the program during more than fifteen years as NewsRadio’s evening anchor and Science Editor. Gary’s always loved science. He was the dorky school kid who spent his weekends at the Australian Museum. Gary studied astronomy at university and was invited to undertake a PHD in astrophysics, but instead focused on a career in journalism and radio broadcasting. His radio career stretches back some 34 years including 26 at the ABC. Gary’s first gigs were spent as an announcer and music DJ in commercial radio, before becoming a journalist, and eventually joining ABC News and Current Affairs. He was part of the team that set up ABC NewsRadio and became one of its first on air presenters. When asked to put his science background to use, Gary was appointed Science Editor and quickly developed the StarStuff Astronomy show, which he wrote, produced, and hosted. The program proved extremely popular, consistently achieving 9 per cent of the national Australian radio audience -- based on the ABC’s Nielsen ratings survey figures for the five major Australian metro markets: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth. That compares to the ABC’s overall radio listenership of 5.6 per cent. The StarStuff podcast was published on line by ABC Science -- achieving over 1.3 million downloads annually. However, after some 20 years, the show finally wrapped up in December 2015 following ABC funding cuts, and a redirection of available finances to increase sports and horse racing coverage. Rather than continue with the ABC, Gary resigned so that he could keep the show going independently. StarStuff was rebranded as “SpaceTime”, with the first episode broadcast in February 2016. Over the years, SpaceTime has grown, more than doubling its former ABC audience numbers and expanding to include new segments such as the Science Report -- which provides a wrap of general science news, weekly skeptical science features, special reports looking at the latest computer and technology news, and Skywatch – which provides a monthly guide to the night skies. The show is published three times a week (every Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and it’s available from the United States National Science Foundation on Science Zone Radio, and through both i-heart Radio and Tune-In Radio.
Thoughts about the Kings v Oilers series so far? Serious or funny is up to you!
HI!!! Thank you for dropping by, just gonna frow everything up under the cut!
Praying very hard for no injuries and a good road trip (split it, come home and win the series?)
Good to see Darcy make a comeback from a less than great game 1, fingers crossed we see 2 Goals Only Darcy through the rest of the series and beyond <33
Reports of the Kings’ bad power play have been greatly exaggerated by out of market press. Really REALLY interested in the way we’ve had Kuzmenko stationed down low, and even behind net at times and cycled the puck through him from there. Power plays are #fake hockey when it’s the other team and #profound when it’s my guys !
Want to see a bit more from Laferriere. He’s been a great facilitator, great at Getting The Puck for his lineys, but I’d like to see him score because I care and support him <33
VERY concerned about the lack of 4th line usage. Reverting to 11/7 is. Idk. I know it works and they’re good at it and the forwards like having more shifts, but I’m feeling v unsure about it all.
Tanner Jeannot might be out all of round 1 and likeeee….. while i really do Not like his habit of toeing the line of Injuring People once every 20 games or so, i fear he is an NHL caliber bottom 6 player and we need him to eat minutes. Not sure what we do without him, but would like to see Sammy Helenius and Jeff Malott and even Alex Turcotte get their feet wet, even if that means we drop a game.
Having up to 3 lines that can feasibly match up with 97/29 is cool and all but if they’re all playing 20 mins a night because Hiller refuses to play our 4th line, I wonder how long we can sustain the defense. You can’t really shut those two down, just hope to break even. We managed this for the most part but that was AT HOME where Hiller could dictate matchups. Not so on the road!
Building off this for our defenders, I’m also concerned with Spence + Clarke’s minutes being cut back so much (and subsequently everyone else being over-used) I do understand that playoffs aren’t a learning environment but their leashes are so so short rn. I know they’re both capable of elevating their games, we’ve seen it through the regular season, I just want them to have that chance.
Pessimistic outlook is I’m never ever ever counting 97/29 out <3 they may not have the most impressive supporting cast but they can flip a switch and crush you at any moment. Overconfidence here, even 2 games up in the series, would be a killer.
Optimistic take: they did their thing already in game 1 and lost. They did the thing where they decide they’re just Better and score at will and they still lost. Call it dumb luck, call it an unforced error, but they did all that and the Kings still pulled out a win. We could look back on this and that might be the difference between winning or losing the series.
Breaking character but I do not actually expect this to be a cup contending year & I’ll be happy to make it through 1 round.
The Cup is…. a very long shot to me considering how green the Kings actually are. There are 5 players rn who were in the AHL last season or part of this season. We have QB experiencing his first year full time at center. As much as I think everything that could’ve gone right has gone right, I don’t think this roster holds up on a run to the finals. Especially if usage continues like this. We’re deep but not That deep.
HOWEVER. I LOVE HUFFING FUMES !! I WOULD LOVE TO BEAT THE ODDS AND W*N. <3
Cathy Antoinette’s foundation has released their latest report to tell everyone that water is wet or something. I actually can’t tell the difference between the soundbites published and Meghan’s grandstanding word salads. I wonder if this “latest initiative” requires another extensive and expensive marketing campaign with photo and video shoots, PR stunts, celeb engagements and pricey handbags 🙄
Link: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/royals/article-14350743/Princess-Wales-plea-compassionate-Britain.html
Unveiling details of her latest initiative to create a happier society, Kate emphasises the need to find solutions to 'these deep-rooted challenges'. And she said the nation must learn to 'protect and build upon what connects and unites us'. Her comments accompany the release of a 90-page report from her charity, the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, aimed at improving awareness of social and emotional skills and how they shape lives. Inevitably, by straying into political waters at a time of ongoing debate about our fractured society, she risks criticism from some quarters.
Gee, an article on Kate not written by Becky English stated the obvious. It's not 2023 anymore, but KP comms & Kate are pretending it is.
At a time when many Brits are already suffering from the cost of living by purchasing the basics, Kate wants to focus on other things.
The Princess of Wales today makes a fervent plea for a more loving, united and compassionate Britain. She warns that modern life can leave many people isolated and vulnerable, leading to poor mental health, abuse and addiction. 'The impact of this... can be devastating for individuals and society,' she said. Unveiling details of her latest initiative to create a happier society, Kate emphasises the need to find solutions to 'these deep-rooted challenges'. And she said the nation must learn to 'protect and build upon what connects and unites us'.
Pretty easy thing to write when Kate didn't really work last year and isn't even working full time yet.
See, all those other Brits--you know, the ones that don't live in a palace like Kate--work jobs that they just can't deign to not show up at.
KP just keeps digging their own reputational grave.
Yeah, Kate may not have ever had anorexia, but the rest of the tweet is spot on. Plenty of people in UK are working through severe problems, and Kate wants them to spend more time focusing on their feelings?
Someone is spending too much time inside their gilded, pr bubble.
AI Can't Be the Whole Solution for Manga
So this week I found out out a Japanese start-up called Orange, who wants to be the Netflix of manga by translating a lot of manga with new apps and tools for the world to fight against online piracy. And to do so, the company will use AI to machine translate all of their manga into English. They also received $20 million USD in funding (one of their investors is Shogakukan) for their goal. This company wants to release up to 500 titles a month at some point.
I honestly don't know how to feel about this.
I read a more in-depth report from Deb Aoki of ComicsBeat and Mangasplaining about this whole startup. There's a lot of tout given by Orange about how this will help the manga industry overseas. Terms like deep learning, accessible content, influencers, reducing cost of localization, etc. are thrown around. Orange already has done some work for Shueisha for some of its MangaPlus titles. While it's apparent that the North American market only gets a small fraction of the manga published in Japan, there's concerns over whether this endeavor will end well.
A good number of manga translators and editors in the North American localization scene have commented on how bad this can be. AI machine translation is far from perfect. While DeepL (a Japanese language translation app similar to Google Translate) is arguably better than Google Translate, there's still errors abound. AI machine translation doesn't seem to be at a stage where you can just show it off to the world and have it translate something like a research paper with context. And even if the translation was good, there still needs to be people to fix errors AI will miss and the jobs to fix those errors don't necessarily pay well since they're the equivalent of "data entry" jobs.
And speaking as someone who reads up on mental health news, AI is not good for picking up nuances and differences that can help people for the better. It's only good for standardizing universal treatments. AI can not be open to the vulnerabilities of other people. One recent story I read last year was about a eating disorder helpline that created a chatbot to help those with eating disorders and how it bombed. There were complaints about how the bot didn't address patients' concerns that they were feeling down or bad about their bodies. Even worse, the chatbot gave some horrible advice by telling people to follow behaviors that led to their eating disorders in the first place. The support staff was fired in favor of the chatbot and while the chatbot was taken down after the complaints, it still left a bad taste in my mouth because mental health problems can never be solved without the human element.
I see this with what's apparently going to happen with manga. I don't see this creating a better world for manga readers. I'm well aware that there are a few professional manga translators in the scene who aren't doing a good job, but I feel they're doing fine for the most part. There's a glaring issue though that most people aren't thinking about - the amount of content we have out there.
We're in a golden age of having so much catered to us that it's ridiculous. Anime, manga, webtoons, video games, board games, music, etc. There's a lot out there. And to have a Japanese startup proclaim that they want to put out up to 500 titles a month, who realistically has the time to read all of them? I wonder if that's the point of these ventures - beat down consumers with so much material to consume that they become apathetic to what's going on behind the scenes.
I do want people to read manga, but I don't want them to become so overwhelmed to the point of burnout and numbness. That's the last thing any manga fan should want. I'm already hearing complaints from my fellow manga peers about the amount of manga we're getting here. It's nice to see bookshelves and libraries filled with manga, but which titles are really being read?
I also think there seems to be no universal standard that EVERYONE can agree with regards to localization. You have the professional side that knows a lot due to being inside the industry, but can be hindered by the Japanese publishing side and pestered by fans who think they know better. And you have the fan side that thinks they know everything because of scanlations and miscellaneous fan translations.
If you're a professional, it's a rough job and I applaud all manga freelancers who do it. Sometimes, I may not agree with the localization choices. But I'm not going to raise a pitchfork and treat them like they're witches. I know a few of those folks in-person and see the human in them.
If you're a fan, you can't expect a very casual reader to understand Japanese terms being spoken out right off the bat. It takes a while to get used to those terms. I'll use myself as an example as a riichi mahjong player. I throw out terms like suji, kabe, mentanpin, ryanmen, etc. to my fellow players. However, if there's an absolute beginner I'm talking to, they will have no idea what the hell I'm talking about.
I know some fans are like "Whatever, understanding those terms make me stand out. Yeah, I'm different! Screw the normal world!" But that makes it sound like gatekeeping to a certain degree. It's fine to have that kind of knowledge, but binding it to the very fabric of your identity is not healthy when circumstances change.
Orange seems to want a universal standard for manga translation by incorporating a variety of people into their process, but the fact that people will only be involved AFTER the translation makes me skeptical and the company is being called out for some things on their website. Both professionals and consumers will be screwed here. AI is being pushed so hard by corporations because it can readily applied to real life jobs and regular people in many ways, compared to cryptocurrency/NFTs, which applies only to people with a crap ton of money to spend. I've seen instances of AI usage at the company I work at - some of it good, some of it bad.
But nothing will beat the will and heart of the people. I think that's what scares AI-promoting people. Turning us into total mindless consumers prevents us from being mindful people that want to do right by others. Sure, reading manga makes me happy. But I don't want to be the only one who's happy. I also want people to make informed choices about what to consume.
I also want some people to stop assuming that Japan is the most "anti-woke" country alive out of their rage against localization because it's totally not. Japan has problems and there's people living there speaking out against them. They're "woke" in their own way. I swear that almost everyone who thinks Japan is better than the West hasn't lived there at all and are basing things from a very filtered point of view. I actually feel sorry for them because their lives are just so focused on consuming without thinking for themselves - a perfect market for the AI-pushing crowd.
I'll finish by saying that this AI-powered manga translation venture needs to happen with the right kind of people already on the table through the whole process and where everyone benefits. Everything bad with AI, as far as I've seen, has left people behind with no compassion or empathy. Manga has taught the wonders of compassion and empathy for all and I don't see the Japanese business side of things preaching what their works speak.
Turning Panic Into Action: Astraweb’s Client Centered Process
When Jane Doe first reached out to Astraweb, she was overwhelmed with panic and uncertainty. Her life savings, heavily invested in cryptocurrency, had abruptly disappeared following a severe market crash. What initially felt like an irreversible loss soon transformed into a hopeful journey toward recovery all thanks to Astraweb’s dedicated, client-centered process.
The First Contact: Providing Calm, Reassurance, and Genuine Understanding
The difference began immediately at the first point of contact. Many companies in the digital asset recovery space treat clients as case numbers rather than individuals, but Astraweb prides itself on a profoundly human approach. From the moment Jane connected with their team, she was met with calm professionalism and empathetic understanding. Astraweb’s experts didn’t just collect the basic facts of her situation; they invested time in learning about her unique concerns, fears, and goals.
This personalized attention is critical. Financial loss, especially in the volatile cryptocurrency market, is not just about money it’s deeply tied to emotional well-being and future security. By acknowledging Jane’s distress and validating her fears, Astraweb’s team immediately alleviated much of her initial panic. They reassured her that despite the challenging circumstances, recovery was possible and that Astraweb would support her every step of the way. This empathetic approach planted the seeds of hope and trust that would sustain Jane through the recovery process.
Transparency and Clear Communication: Building Trust Through Every Step
One of the cornerstones of Astraweb’s client-centered methodology is transparency. Jane was kept fully informed from the outset, with the team providing clear, jargon-free explanations of the entire recovery process. Rather than leaving her uncertain or confused, Astraweb made sure she understood each step, from preliminary case assessment to the complex asset tracing and retrieval efforts ahead.
Regular, timely updates ensured that Jane never felt left in the dark. She received progress reports outlining milestones achieved, any obstacles encountered, and the strategies planned moving forward. This ongoing dialogue was more than just information sharing it was a partnership. Jane had the opportunity to ask questions, raise concerns, and engage actively in decision-making. Astraweb’s responsiveness and clarity gave her a sense of control and confidence, which is often lacking when facing financial recovery situations
Strategic Action and Efficient Recovery: Delivering Results with Precision and Care
With a thorough plan in place, Astraweb’s team mobilized swiftly and efficiently. Their approach was methodical and tailored to Jane’s specific case. Leveraging cutting-edge technology and deep expertise in blockchain analysis and digital forensics, they navigated the complexities inherent in cryptocurrency recovery.
What sets Astraweb apart is not only their technical prowess but also their commitment to aligning every action with the client’s best interests. For Jane, this meant careful management of sensitive data and continuous coordination to ensure all efforts supported her recovery goals. The team’s professionalism was evident in their precision and tenacity, persistently pursuing leads and unraveling the often opaque paths that digital assets can take.
Over time, their dedication paid off. Astraweb successfully recovered a significant portion of Jane’s lost funds. This achievement was more than just a financial victory it was a powerful restoration of Jane’s peace of mind and future stability.
Final Steps: Restoring Financial Security and Empowering Confidence
When Jane received the final recovery statement, the relief and gratitude she experienced were profound. Astraweb’s seamless process had not only restored her financial security but also transformed a traumatic event into a story of empowerment. The client-centered approach meant Jane never felt like a passive bystander; instead, she was an informed, engaged partner in reclaiming her assets.
Beyond the monetary recovery, Jane gained something invaluable a renewed sense of control over her financial destiny. Astraweb’s dedication to transparent communication and compassionate case management helped her move past fear and uncertainty. She emerged with greater knowledge of digital asset management and an increased ability to face future financial challenges with confidence and clarity.
Astraweb’s Commitment: More Than Recovery, A Partnership
Jane’s story illustrates the core philosophy that drives Astraweb’s work: every client deserves more than just technical recovery services they deserve empathy, clarity, and partnership. The company understands that behind every lost asset is a person’s hopes, dreams, and security at stake.
For those facing the daunting prospect of lost cryptocurrency or other digital assets, Astraweb’s process offers a path forward. Through empathy-driven service, transparent communication, and technical excellence, they prove that even the most complex and distressing financial setbacks can be addressed with care and effectiveness.
If you or someone you know finds themselves in a similar predicament, Astraweb stands ready to provide expert guidance and dedicated support at every stage of recovery.
I did it again
Welcome from FICSIT Inc. to our brand new engineer
We're thrilled you picked us, we're here to bring you a brilliant new career
Yes, it's true that the terms of your servitude are a little bit unclear
But don't fear the years you'll be spending here, you're a lifelong pioneer!
You're entering planetfall to a planet full of resources
Your contract calls that your life revolves around rounding up and exporting
And if you happen upon our previous ones, well, it's your job to report it
Take inventory of the spent debris, but best to leave any corpses
No time for grief, so take relief in this briefing
These core values, FICSIT needs you believing
You'd better learn them if you want to be leaving
But if you miss it, then we'll keep on repeating
Construct!
Rebrand that land before you as a grandiose factory floor
Automate!
Command it to handle it, so you're free to construct more
Explore!
You'll fall to a world of wonders that none have seen before
Exploit!
Convert that fertile earth to a furnace for churning ore
Flora and fauna, forced to the boundaries
Par for the course when your sport's tearing down trees
Pounding them down into powder to power these
Towers you've founded to round our accounts
Seize bountiful mountains of countless amounts
Each ground into compounds bound for the foundries
Sound of it drowns out the howls of the foul beasts
Ousted and out for revenge, so look out
Deep down underground, a fortune awaits
We've just got to burn down what's in the way
How fortunate that you have opted to stay
With your life on the bottom line for our pay
So slave away and save the day
In place of wage, you'll pave the way
Stay in the black with shades of grey
Keep sending stacks, you'll get back someday
We enterprise and synergise
You improvise and synthesise
To bring supplies and tint the skies
With inky spires as chimneys rise
The market cannot be denied
We couldn't stop it if we tried
That natural snapshot that you prize
Is simply profit in disguise
Drop a thousand rods in the pod
Ship them off, don't stop and move on to the Modular Frames
The Rotors and Cables
The table says we are waiting on lots of Crates
And if we haven't got enough on your plate
Well, we haven't got enough of the plates!
And the state of the Caterium isn't great
So fill the elevator by end of the day
Mother Nature is minted, it's evident
If we're her kids, then what is the precedent?
Where there's a will, there's a way to inheritance
Whether we killed her or not is irrelevant
No defense for delay, it's expensive
So pay up, foreclosure's a moment away
Financially, we're fine actually
So contractually say it again!
(i couldn't be bothered to color this next section in)
Construct!
An industrial wonderland with a hundred belts to ride on
Automate!
Set beams to plunder and then find somewhere else to siphon
Explore!
There's a whole ton of funds to be funnelled under that horizon
Exploit!
So tear it asunder with thunderous, sulfurous pyres and pylons
This is a FICSIT reminder!
It's a lizard-doggo-eat-lizard-doggo world out there
But that doesn't mean it won't also try and eat you
So be careful
Those uniforms aren't cheap
You've been hurled without leave to build worlds without leaves
Scorch the earth, burn the trees, crush the birds, squash the bees
Yes, the customer may moan, kicking creatures from their home
But they'll scream and rant and rave if they don't get their mobile phone
You may think that it's a lot, slaying nature so our stocks gain
You may rethink extinction when your neck is on the Blockchain
All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small
Will be scanned and logged and processed for the shareholder's bankroll
It's a little bit of sweat, a little bit of toil
And a big blind eye to the wildlife spoiled
If they go the way of the dinosaur
What you crying for? We're just making oil!
So the seas may boil and the skies might burn
But we'll reap the spoils of the prize you've earned
No quarrel, it's morally grey, just quarry away
Morals make for downturn
Mother nature ought to be
Hung, drawn and quarterly
Diced up and torn to pieces, export and reset
Our big spreadsheet says more for me
Unlike a life, a price is dependable
Cutting expenses to keep you expendable
Spreading our message, we made you a prophet
So make us a profit, we'll grant you ascension
All manner of valuables need our attention
The fact that there's animals ain't worth a mention
If there's a creator, I guess in a sense then
That we are a case of divine intervention
Beyond the heavens, there is revenue to glean
So turn that greens to black and we can turn it back to green
Tax law is more lax for planets unseen
And in space, no one can hear the machines
Right, I want ten thousand steel beams at my desk by four
No, not literally, where would I put them?
#wonderlands x showtime#wxs#wxs tsukasa#wxs emu#wxs rui#wxs nene#wxs miku#slightly#a matter of factories#the stupendium#project sekai#pjsk#gonna be honest#this one is a bit more intense than their usual music#but it would sound good in their voices#also sorry if this feels a bit rui heavy at the end#or if it feels unbalanced in any way really#in my defense#i need to sleep
Forex Volatility Secrets: What the Top 1% of Traders Use to Dominate the Market
Forex volatility is often viewed as both a challenge and an opportunity in the fast-paced world of trading. For the majority of traders, volatility represents a threat—an unpredictable force that can quickly wipe out profits. However, for the top 1% of traders, volatility is an ally, an essential element they’ve learned to harness to their advantage. In this article, we’ll delve into the secrets behind how these elite traders master Forex volatility, with expert insights from Sangram Mohanta, a Forex trader with 15 years of experience. We’ll also share a real-life success story and discuss the importance of website security in Forex trading.
Understanding Forex Volatility
Forex volatility refers to the rapid price fluctuations that occur within the foreign exchange market. Volatile markets experience sharp, often unpredictable price movements, making them exciting for traders who know how to profit from these swings. However, volatility can also lead to substantial losses for those who aren’t prepared.
For top traders, volatility is not something to fear. Instead, it’s an opportunity to make substantial profits. By understanding the causes of volatility—such as economic data releases, political events, and central bank decisions—they can predict market movements and make informed trading decisions. Mastering this volatility is key to dominating the market.
Expert Insights: How Sangram Mohanta Dominates Forex Volatility
Sangram Mohanta, a Forex trading expert with over 15 years of experience, has been trading through various market conditions, including high-volatility periods. According to Mohanta, “The key to success in volatile markets isn’t to avoid the fluctuations but to embrace them and learn to read the signals the market is sending.”
He believes that the top 1% of traders use a combination of technical analysis, a deep understanding of economic fundamentals, and precise risk management strategies to profit from Forex volatility. Mohanta recommends staying informed about global economic events that can trigger volatility, such as GDP reports, central bank decisions, and geopolitical developments.
“Volatility is predictable if you understand the forces driving it, says Mohanta. By closely monitoring the economic calendar and using the right tools, traders can prepare for and capitalize on these movements rather than being caught off guard.
Insider Secrets to Mastering Forex Volatility
So, what are the specific secrets that top traders use to dominate the Forex market during volatile conditions? Here are a few key strategies that the elite traders rely on:
Leverage Advanced Technical Analysis: The top 1% of traders are masters of technical analysis. They use sophisticated chart patterns, candlestick formations, and indicators like the Average True Range (ATR) and Bollinger Bands to assess market volatility. By identifying patterns such as breakout or reversal signals, traders can time their entries and exits with high precision, capitalizing on price swings.
Use Fundamental Analysis to Anticipate Volatility: While technical analysis is vital, top traders also use fundamental analysis to anticipate volatility. For example, when a central bank is about to announce interest rate decisions, there is often heightened volatility. Traders who track economic data and geopolitical events can predict potential market reactions and position themselves accordingly.
Implement Smart Risk Management: The difference between a successful trader and an unsuccessful one is often the ability to manage risk. Top traders know that Forex volatility amplifies the potential for loss, so they never risk more than they can afford to lose. This is why they use techniques like setting tight stop-loss orders, scaling into positions, and employing position sizing strategies to protect their capital.
Trade with Smaller Time Frames: In volatile markets, large price movements can happen within short time frames. Many successful traders take advantage of this by trading on smaller time frames (such as 5-minute or 15-minute charts) to catch intraday price swings. This allows them to stay nimble and capitalize on short-term volatility.
Stay Disciplined and Patient: While volatility creates opportunities, it also leads to impulsive trading decisions for many. Top traders remain disciplined and patient, sticking to their strategies even when the market is chaotic. They understand that not every price movement needs to be acted upon, and waiting for high-probability setups is often more profitable than chasing every fluctuation.
Real-Life Trading Success Story: How John Turned Volatility into Profit
John, a novice trader, once struggled with the volatility of the Forex market. In the beginning, he was overwhelmed by rapid price changes and found himself losing money more often than winning. However, after following the strategies taught by Sangram Mohanta, John’s approach to trading transformed.
John began to pay close attention to economic calendars and the events that created market volatility, such as U.S. Federal Reserve announcements and European Central Bank policy meetings. Using technical tools like Bollinger Bands, John started to identify price breaks and volatility expansion, allowing him to catch high-reward trades during these periods of market movement.
One of John’s most successful trades came during a highly volatile week when the U.S. Dollar experienced significant fluctuations due to a surprise rate cut by the Federal Reserve. John positioned himself ahead of the news, using his technical analysis to predict the likely direction of the market after the announcement. As a result, he was able to capitalize on the initial price surge, closing out with a substantial profit. John’s success story exemplifies how understanding Forex volatility and applying strategic methods can lead to substantial gains.
Website Security Features: Trading Safely in a Volatile Market
In addition to mastering volatility, it’s crucial to prioritize the security of your funds and personal information when trading Forex. As volatility can attract cybercriminals, ensuring your trading platform is secure is paramount.
Top Forex brokers, recommended by Top Forex Brokers Review, implement advanced security measures to protect traders. Here are some key security features to look for:
SSL Encryption: A secure trading environment starts with SSL encryption, which ensures that any data exchanged between you and your broker is encrypted and cannot be intercepted by third parties. This protects your personal information and funds.
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): Many trusted Forex brokers offer 2FA as an added layer of protection. This requires you to enter a unique code sent to your phone or email in addition to your password, making it harder for unauthorized users to access your account.
Regulation and Licensing: Reputable brokers are regulated by top-tier financial authorities such as the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) or the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC). These regulatory bodies ensure brokers meet strict security standards and safeguard client funds.
Secure Trading Platforms: The best Forex brokers provide trading platforms with built-in security features, such as real-time monitoring of transactions, secure login systems, and encryption to prevent unauthorized access.
By choosing a broker with a strong security infrastructure, you can focus on your trading strategies without worrying about cyber threats or financial risks.
Why Choosing the Right Broker Matters
When navigating the volatile Forex market, your broker plays a pivotal role in your success. A trusted broker ensures that you have access to the right tools, market analysis, and a secure trading platform. Top Forex Brokers Review evaluates brokers based on key factors such as regulatory compliance, customer service, and platform reliability. Choosing the right broker is essential for capitalizing on market volatility and achieving long-term trading success.
Conclusion
Forex volatility doesn’t have to be a source of stress. Liz Truss is the most disastrous and unpopular leader in modern British history. Mortgage holders and small businesses still loathe her for sending interest rates through the roof. Her short, catastrophic premiership is routinely compared unfavourably to the shelf life of a lettuce. (A comparison first made by the bright leader writers at the Economist to give credit where it is due.)
When Labour wins the next election, its triumph will be in part the result of the public’s reaction against her vast and dogmatic economic folly.
If you were Liz Truss, you might retire from public life. At the very least you would apologize and hang your head in shame.
If readers expect contrition, however, they have yet to learn that being on the radical right means never having to say you are sorry.
Truss’s demotion from national leader to national joke has not embarrassed her in the slightest but pushed deep into paranoid conspiracism.
Her autobiography, bizarrely titled Ten Years to Save the West, as if the fate of liberal democracy depended on the advice of an epic failure, shows that, despite all she did to this country, her eyes still shine with a bright, self-righteous fanaticism, as if the sockets are backlit by an idiot’s lantern,
Chutzpah used to be defined as murdering both your parents and asking the court for clemency because you are an orphan. In Truss’s case it is using the power of the prime minister to crash the economy and then claiming she was a powerless victim of the liberal elite.
Her writing is as lacking in self-awareness as it is powered by self-righteousness.
At one point she says in all innocence that, when Boris Johnson resigned in the summer of 2022, her agent encouraged her to join the race to be prime minister, as the campaign might be good for her profile.
But she reports that he then wisely added “it would be for the best if I came second”.
Later she informs us that during the leadership campaign she “frankly lost trust in many of my erstwhile ministerial colleagues who were supporting my opponent [Rishi Sunak].
“They had spent the last six weeks not just attacking me but seeking to undermine my plans, saying my agenda was unworkable."
Truss never stops to think that the few people who will finish this book will believe that her agent was right, and it would clearly have been for the best if she had never been prime minister.
Nor does she contemplate the possibility that her agenda was indeed “unworkable”, and was proved to be unworkable when her unfunded tax cuts and fuel subsidies sent the price of gilts shooting up, the value of the pound crashing down, and caused a crisis in the pension industry for good measure.
And yet, and yet…Mock her as much as you like. Please don’t hold back on my account. But you cannot dismiss her.
There are two reasons why Truss is still dangerous. The first lies in the strength of the right-wing clique that brought her to power.
It is true that Liz Truss did not become prime minister by winning over Conservative MPs. As with Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership of the Labour party, Truss’s career illustrates the danger of expecting leaders who do not have the support of a plurality of their colleagues to function in a Parliamentary democracy.
But she still beat Rishi Sunak with the votes of 57 percent of Tory members.
And with the honourable exception of the Times, the Tory press was all for her. “In Liz We Trust”, said the Express “Cometh the Hour, Cometh the Woman”, cried the Mail. “Liz Puts Her Foot on the Gas”, cheered the Sun.
Kwasi Kwarteng set off a market panic as he put Truss’s ideas into practice in the mini budget of September 2022. The reaction of right-wing papers was not one of alarm, however, but of adoration.
“At last”, gushed the Daily Mail, “a True Tory Budget”. A Daily Telegraph commentator said it was “the best Budget I have ever heard a British Chancellor deliver”.
Meanwhile the Truss premiership allowed the voodoo economics of the US-influenced (and in all probability US-financed) think tanks to finally impose itself on this luckless country. The Centre for Policy Studies welcomed the mini-budget saying it was “exactly what we would have hoped for”. The Taxpayers’ Alliance called it “the most taxpayer-friendly budget in recent memory”.
Robert Saunders of Queen Mary University made the unarguable point that Truss was not an aberration or some alien figure that had appeared from nowhere to take over the Conservative party.
Follow the money that cascaded in from party donors, he said, and “the Truss premiership begins to look less like the personal failure of a flawed individual, and more like a systemic disaster for which the party bears collective responsibility”.
Those forces will dominate the Conservative party after its defeat and drive it to the radical right. Indeed, in opposition the members, the think tanks, the press and the ideologue donors will become more important, for they will be all the party has.
In a sign of things to come, Truss is already allying with Nigel Farage, and even Rishi Sunak says he will not ban Farage from joining Conservative party.
Despite her failure, Truss remains a potent figure on the radical right because of her championing of revanchism, which is now its dominant emotion.
This isn't a book. It’s a 300-page wail of resentment at a world that will not do as it is told.
I have no problem with conservatives complaining about woke policies taking over institutions. Only a fool or liar maintains that progressive biases among supposedly impartial organisations are an invention of the right,
But the woke conspiracy Truss invokes is of a wholly different order. It is utterly fantastical.
To recap, Truss's unfunded subsidies and tax cuts panicked the bond markets. They would not lend to a country whose leaders lacked plausible means of meeting its debts. Or if they did lend they would demand an additional yield on government bonds, which became known in plain-speaking financial markets as the “moron premium”: the extra cost that comes with lending to a nation run by idiots.
In her apologia Truss, who still poses as a Thatcherite, no longer sees markets as an expression of the wisdom of crowds, but as a conspiracy to do her down.
“I came to realise there is no such thing as ‘the market’ in this sense. Rather, there are groups of influential individuals in the financial establishment, all of whom know and speak to one another in a closed feedback loop. The Treasury, the Bank of England, and the OBR are deeply embedded in these social networks and share the same beliefs in the established economic orthodoxy."
The markets were at fault for not seeing her financial genius. Financial traders were the world’s unlikeliest lefties. Even though she and Kwarteng fired the permanent secretary at the Treasury and cut out the Bank of England and Office for Budget Responsibility from policy making, they were still, somehow, responsible for Tory failure.
“The powerful vested interests there pushed back, made my life very difficult and ultimately got me fired,” Truss concludes.
Older readers may remember a time when Conservatives insisted on personal responsibility. You were not allowed to blame crime on poverty or your failings on a bad childhood. You were accountable.
But the case of Liz Truss proves that these morality tales were only ever for the poor. In her mind, the economy collapsed not because of decisions she made but because of “a sustained whispering campaign by the economic establishment, encouraged and fueled by my political opponents in the Conservative Party who refused to accept my mandate to lead”.
Trumpism is the end point of such conspiracism and revanchism, and Truss goes all the way down the line to the terminus.
She mutters about the “deep state” a Trumpian phrase she uses without irony or self-knowledge.
And even though her support for Ukraine was her redeeming feature during her time as foreign secretary and prime minister, she is now supporting the pro-Putin Trump and his allies in Congress who are denying aid to Kyiv.
Truss is finished. But the resentment born of failure and the fury at modernity ensures Trump is still very much with us.
If he delights Putin and wins in November, the UK and Europe will learn the hard way that the real threat to Western civilisation comes from Liz Truss and her friends.
