We haven’t started homeschooling yet because I wanted my big kid to have a substantial break. Often I feel crazy and like a bad parent because I have a school-aged child who is currently not in school. This feels like neglect.

But it also felt abusive to drop a child off at a place where he spent hours lowkey suffering every day. It was horrible watching him have multiple meltdowns a week. It was sad when he had no energy to do anything other than zone out on his electronics. There were no friend prospects in sight.

He’s still spending too much time on his electronics. But he also had another hangout with his new friend N yesterday. We met her and her mom at the local coffeehouse, and the kids played card and board games for two hours. Tomorrow I’m dropping him and Riv off at my parents’ where they’ll see a play, go to a Christmas tree farm, and go to church. I can reasonably expect him to be able to handle these activities instead of being worried that he’s too stressed out to deal with them. And today he joined Dominic and me for lunch at Mr. Chen’s, a delicious restaurant and Asian grocery store. He ate gyoza and tried crispy chicken. He bought these little bananas that he loves, which he used to get with his dad at the Asian market in Omaha.

We will figure out how to educate him. I’m sure it will be a bumpy ride at times. Most of the time I feel certain that he should be in school and not watching YouTube videos on his phone all day, but we’ll get there. And in the meantime I’m really grateful for the relative calm after weeks of high-strung dysfunction. He’s calmer, more loving and affectionate, and he’s more flexible too.

Anyway, I feel like an awful parent! I feel like a great parent!

Unfortunately I am currently studying to be an engineer and it is finals season for me so I haven't been able to write much of anything ATM. However, I can numerically analyze a resistor circuit with multiple voltage sources, so that's good...I guess.

Also, from what I can tell, the green hand is a capacitor. When you hit the input node, the green hand gains a positive charge, where it is then discharged either by hitting the output node or automatically discharged by the grabpack, using what I assume to be an internal battery. While it is true that the green hand can snag electrons from the air and thus slowly discharge, the exact timing means that something within the grabpack is discharging the hand. Also, the charge from the hand would not be enough to activate anything, as the sudden discharge would only activate whatever circuit it was connected to for a second. If it was a motor, then the motor would only fire once, instead of a sustained motion. You wouldn't turn a water wheel with a bucket, even if there was a lot of water in the bucket. Thus, the green hand must only be used to deliver enough charge to activate a signal instead of delivering the power itself.

All this, just to say, there will be art with the next chapter... and maybe some electricity facts idk.

Hi there hello it's me back to be annoying because I quite like this topic and unfortunately I am a smartass.

First things first, yes! This procedure can (and has been) used to replace a uterus that was previously removed due to injury or disease. Uterine disease is even named specifically as a potential reason to justify a transplant. However, a recent cancer diagnosis may prohibit a transplant, like with other organs.

That being said, the uterus does not have much function outside of conception and pregnancy.

It's a relatively small and mobile organ, which relies much more on the surrounding structure to be held in place than vice versa. Most of your internal organs, including the reproductive system, are more or less held in place by something called the Peritoneum. The presence of the uterus makes no difference.

It also doesn't regulate hormonal balance. This is instead done by the ovaries, who also produce the egg cells. A hysterectomy usually does not include removal of ovaries, although it can be necessary, and ovaries cannot be transplanted between humans. (Mostly for ethical reasons. We can freeze ovarian tissue and implant it back into the same person later, like after an aggressive cancer treatment.)

If someone has their ovaries (or testicles, for that matter) removed, they need to substitute that hormone production through medication, since estrogens and androgens are vital to keeping our body in its cycles. They also affect bone health, which is why menopause can be a gateway to osteoporosis. Whether the uterus is still in its place has no effect on hormone production.

It's actually because the uterus doesn't serve any other purpose that we can transplant it! Uterus transplants are only performed with living donors, meaning they'll go the rest of their life without a uterus. And, since it's not a vital organ, the transplanted uterus is actually removed again from the recipient after 1-2 pregnancies! That way, they don't have to deal with the constant strain of a foreign organ in their body. (Anyone else who receives an organ transplant likely needs their donor to pass away and is required to take immunosuppressants for the rest of their life to avoid their body attacking it.)

So to recap; uterus transplants don't improve any other bodily function, but they do bring a great improvement to women who want to get pregnant but don't have a functional uterus. That's actually phenomenal!

A fucking womb transplant, what an incredible thing. Fair play to all involved. A positive news story amidst all the dire shite.

My daughter (10yo) goes to so called "project group" at her school (in the Netherlands). They do fun science in there. Last week she brought home a self made map of moving Earth litospheric plates and was telling us about magma, vulcanos, and earthquakes. Today she was totaly excited with:

"We were talking about atoms. One atom can be in our food, then go out from us, then to the water, then clouds, then to a tree, and then somewhere else. And also did you know that Earth is not so big after all?! It's just a tiny part of a milky way, which is a tiny part of the galaxy, which is a tiny part of the universe. AND EVERYTHING IS SPINNING!!! 😲😵‍💫"

I love this! Absolutely love these fun science lessons. Too bad it's only for advanced kids who are ahead in regular classes, so they can slip some math and language to do this extra learning sessions. This should be the science education for everyone!
