Yes!! I started writing a pirate AU called That’s Life but because I was struggling to get through my other two long wips I decided to put it on the back burner some time last year. I didn’t take it down completely I just added it to a collection where it would be hidden - apologies for sending you half mad 😭😭

Anyway because I’m physically incapable of sticking to one project I ended up changing that fic around a bit and I renamed it to the Subtle Art of Sinking Ships. I really can’t wait to start writing it again but I’m forcing myself to finish my Perciver fic before I do

cater would take you to the light music club room an hour or two before the official meeting time. he would strum his guitar in a more gentle manner than his usual upbeat style, and he would sing songs that he thought you would love, keeping your song preference in mind. there were times he would play songs you both knew by heart, and he would extend his hand to you, as you both dance away in the empty club room. just the two of you.

he might not say it out loud, but he adored those moments. they were short but sweet, and he cherished them with his entire heart so long as it is still beating. because those moments are the ones he shares with you.

jade leech is a busy man. besides his schoolwork, his role as the vice housewarden, and his own club, he barely has much time to be with you. and oh how he hates it.

the next time he sees you, he would invite you to his club room, keeping you close to him as you both take care of the mushrooms. he would even hum the merfolks' entrancing melodies that he learned before his venture on land. oh how he adores that cute little blush you adorn every time his gloved hand brushes yours, or when you sneak glances at him thinking that he wouldn't notice. it puts a silly smile on his face, knowing one day you would sing with him a perfectly harmonised melody of your own.

he doesn't mind waiting for you, he is a patient man after all. he doesn't mind, as long as you choose him in the end.

there are many words people would use to describe floyd. spontaneous, unpredictable, bat-shit crazy. but never in his life has he heard someone calling him "passionate", and that dumb brave soul being you.

so naturally, he was intrigued. the little shrimpy wasn't afraid of him? but you were so tiny and fragile and cute, he could just eat you up! he decided to stick with you for a few days, just to make sure :)

you really weren't afraid of him or his infamous squeezes, you even reciprocated most of them! floyd was ecstatic, he ultimately decided to greet you every day with squeezes and hugs reserved just for you shrimpy!

you wouldn't refuse his growing affections for you right, shrimpy? after all, he has binded his heart with yours, he likes you too much to let you go <3

malleus is THE textbook definition of a good old-fashioned lover boy.

a literal crowned prince, the future ruler of a land, and one of the most powerful mages in all of twisted wonderland. that's who he is. to say you have someone of such status falling for you, people would brush it off as a joke due to how utterly ridiculous that claim sounded.

of course, outsiders wouldn't know the entire details. your late night rendezvous are something malleus looks forward to the most in his years long time being alive. you are the first ever friend he made, and the only friend he had, it is only natural he grew emotionally attached to you. his affections were more and more obvious with each night you spent together, talking and dancing the night away, how his eyes were on you, and you only, and how he gave your hand a tender kiss at the end of each meeting before he (regretfully) had to return to his dorm.

he hoped you could reciprocate his love one day, and he would wait for you, until the end of time.

disclaimer: this post was definitely not written by the bentley

as a former queen obsessed teenager who discovered good omens through queen back in 2019, i've been hearing aziraphale and crowley in every other queen song i listen to. so, i might as well put it to good use. enjoy songs and lyrics that broke me.

(ps. i'm not including the songs used in the show or book, or anything super obvious, because i'm pretty sure no one needs me to explain why good old fashioned lover boy and love of my life are aziracrow)

long away (a day at the races, 1976)

snake eye theory bitches come get ur juice.

this song reminds me of crowley’s general angst and trauma. his complicated relationship with heaven, not believing in it as an institution, but marvelling at the beauty of the stars, of aziraphale.

other parts of the song also feel to me like someone overcoming the pain they experienced in the past, finding a better future. this is endgame for both of them.

dreamer's ball (jazz, 1978)

this is another crowley being sad song. it's about yearning for your lost love, going to sleep and dreaming of them.

the dancing comment is very 2x05, but the second chorus really conveys the desperate and intense love that aziracrow has.

i can't live with you (innuendo, 1991)

this is so miscommunication and codependency season 2 gave us. they are just falling apart without each other, but need to be separated to get over their shit. with a little dash of religious symbolism? i am obsessed.

the millionaire waltz (a day at the races, 1976)

the aziraphale vibes are off the charts in terms of instrumentals (and then brian may comes swooping in gloriously with his guitar). this song finds love and wealth in simple material things. human things, one might say. there's also references to dancing, holding hands, lovers in the rain, music, etc.

it also yearns for lost love, wishing a former lover to come back to them. this reads to me as aziraphale wishing for crowley to join him in heaven, where they can truly be happy together.

it also gives off very go-heaven vibes, being just slightly too upright and proper, almost to the point of being sinister.

my melancholy blues (news of the world, 1977)

this is just crowley post-every. (also crowley in the bar in 2x05.)

some day one day (queen ii, 1974)

a lot of this song's lyrics are hopeful. the first verse is about being heard, finally (the music being loud reminds me of the nightingale not being actually heard in 1x06). crowley is finally able to confess, but they still cannot be together. yet.

the final verse reflects on this concept. when they were younger ("young" means nothing to eternal beings but whatever), prefall and post-not-apocalypse, they were so close to being together. but still, they're not there yet.

but they will come home. south downs will happen. some day.

bonus: love me like there's no tomorrow by freddie mercury (mr. bad guy, 1985)

that feeling when you know you and your lover have drifted apart, but you try to fix it all by taking them in your arms and kissing them, even though you know deep down that you will never be loveable, but you still hold onto the hope that it might be enough.

Aziraphale driving the Bentley... does he even know how to drive. If Crowley's not in the car, and the Queen music is tied to Crowley's mindset, then will it actually play whatever album Aziraphale puts in (RIP to that time he tried to play Mozart and it said no) or will it just play love songs by Queen. I don't know why I'm so fascinated with this. The Bentley starts playing Crazy Little Thing Called Love and Aziraphale's like "yeah I know but he's not taking any hints :/"

- aziraphale does in fact know how to drive; he learnt to drive a Ford back in the early 1900s when they first started emerging on British streets, finding it a much more comfortable and dignified alternative to horses. that being said, he found the hand-eye coordination quite mind-boggling, and always preferred steam travel anyway, because there was usually cake and tea served on board. otherwise, crowley was always happy to drive him wherever he asked, and aziraphale never argued.

- i think it's up for debate whether it's the bentley or crowley that is responsible for Queen, but in my eyes, it was always explicitly stated that the idea came from the real-life phenomenon of the Mystery Queen Greatest Hits cassettes being in the glovebox, and so it's all the bentley's doing. she's a demon's car, after all, and if crowley insists on glueing coins to the pavement then she will insist on making her obsession with freddie mercury Known.

- bentley is rather mischievous in her own way, but takes pity on aziraphale when he's in the car, and does her best (see: when she's in a merciful mood) to throw in some nice calming music; Mozart and the odd splash of Chopin. she will however shove on CLTCL on occasion because in her opinion, aziraphale can be quite dense, and plus there's only so many more repeats of GOFLB a preternatural bentley can take before she locks the doors and refuses to let crowley in the driver's seat for at least the next 20 years✨

The presentation of music in season two, and season one, of Good Omens is so important to me. But I find it hard to put into words just how so. So instead of losing my mind trying to figure out how to do all of that, I want to express my feelings over specifically “Everyday” and “A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square” and how they are used.

A huge emphasis was put on music this season. And a lot of the music defied my expectations of how it would be used having listened to the soundtrack before watching the season (And honestly I think part of why GOFLB specifically was included in the soundtrack was because, not just a nod to fans, the fandom had dubbed that THEIR song— or maybe just specifically Crowleys song for them…) And before was had s2, a lot of people assumed “Everyday” would again, be Crowley and Aziraphales song. Music surrounds them of course, and very often it defines them. So I had assumed the same for “Everyday”. Bringing them closer, everyday, fast paced notions leading to love. But it wasn’t their song. It was Gabriel and Beezlebubs. That song is the demonstration of their love for each other. More important than any other demonstration of love that could have been shown. That song is the most important thing to them. It makes them happy. And represents them at their best and most caring, especially toward eachother. That song is their triumph, their peace, and their beginning.

So no. Everyday is not Crowley and Aziraphales song. Because they already have their own song. That being, “A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square” of course.

That song is important to them. It’s practically about them, made for them, without it actually being so. It is what played while they dined together after the near end of the world, the thing that solidified the fact they didn’t have to hide anymore. They heard it play, and decided it was theirs— or at least Crowley did— but the fact Crowley brought it up at all makes me think it’s both of theirs. He knows how important this song is to the both of them. And knows that Aziraphales knows exactly what he’s saying, and what he means by it. Then and now.

The impossible had happened, an angel and demon won together against all of heaven and hell, they stopped the apocalypse (more or less) and they lived together, and a nightingale did sing.

It’s their song. Something sweet to be an outward representation of them. And it makes what comes hurt so much fucking more. It hurts after watching Gabriel and Beelzebub sing their song together, as they go off to live their lives, just themselves— and then Crowley takes that song that is theirs. That represents their triumph. Their love. And he says that it is gone. That there is nothing left there. That that’s the point. That silence is the point, and it’s been the defining point for both of them for four unresolved years of silence.

Because that’s what it feels like, right? Contrasting this ending to the end of s1, to what they could have compared to the other angel and demon. What they’re both trying to do (though Crowleys trying to say specifically what Aziraphale wants to do) isn’t a victory. It isn’t good, it’s not truly wanted, and it isn’t that same care that led them to the ritz after the last dangerous game they played with heaven and hell. There is no ritz, there is no nightingale, there is no song.

It’s quiet. And it’s not a good quiet. Because their lives are a constant lively dance. And the dance is over. And they’ve stepped out (and then Crowley doubly steps out after the kiss, after the “I forgive you”) That silence hurts.

That moment after the almost apocalypse, I would say, is the most on page they have ever been outside of simply trying to save the world, outside of simply trying to live. That was most peaceful with (almost) nothing to hide or lie about. No danger to worry for, not yet. The danger is momentarily gone.

That music being gone highlights how wrong everything with them has been. It’s been gone. At least the music they needed wasn’t there anymore. Nothing is light, or peaceful, or perfect. Because they can’t have that impossible happiness. Because they both want different things. Their approaches are so different that it leads to this break.

And when the music does come back (it comes back strong with the kiss specifically before it dies out back to defeated suffering silence again) it isn’t a good thing then either. Because it’s already been distorted.

The song plays for Crowley as soon as he starts the car. To start his own descent, away, to where? Who knows. Just not the bookshop. Whether that was because that was the Bentleys attempt at comfort, because he had the song cued up for them both— because it’s their song as they were to head to the ritz— like he wanted, or because his emotions are fucked and the song playing was the embodiment of that hurt. it all ends with him choosing to turn it off. It states that a nightingale sang, and he rejects that. He shuts it off. Because it can’t just be his song. It’s supposed to be their song. And it’s supposed to be their song of triumph, of personal choice. Of choosing eachother. But that didn’t happen. And now it’s just him. And so he leaves in silence.

No nightingales indeed.
