His wedding was perfect, or at least it seemed that way to everyone else. Crisp white flowers adorned every table, soft glow candlelight. Sofia looked stunning in her dress—elegant, poised, and radiant in the way brides should be. I could see why Rafe fell for her. She was the picture of everything he probably wanted. Everything.
I stood in the back of the crowd as they exchanged vows, a bittersweet lump forming in my throat. It was strange, watching someone you love pledge their life to someone else. But I had no choice. This was Rafe. He was my best friend before anything else, and even though I had buried my feelings for him for years, today they seemed to rise up like a tidal wave threatening to crash over me.
I should have told him. Maybe not today. Maybe not even yesterday. But a long time ago, when we were still reckless teenagers, when we stayed up all night laughing at dumb inside jokes, and he looked at me like I was the only one in the room. That’s when I should have said it. That I loved him.
But now, it was too late. Sofia was his future. She stood across from him, gripping his hands, tears of happiness filling her eyes, and all I could do was smile and clap like everyone else. Like the supportive friend I’d been for so long.
The reception flowed with music and laughter, the champagne bubbling like the excitement in the air. I was halfway through a glass of wine when the best man finished his speech, and the MC signaled for me to step up to the microphone. My heart raced as I stood, smoothing my dress and moving to the front.
Rafe shot me a look as I walked up, his familiar crooked grin pulling at the corners of his lips. He was happy, genuinely so. And even though my heart was heavy, I couldn’t let that ruin this moment for him.
The microphone was cool in my hand as I cleared my throat, looking out at the sea of faces, some familiar, some not. Then, I found his eyes—Rafe’s deep blue ones—and took a steadying breath.
“For the people who I haven’t had the pleasure to greet… Hi, I’m Y/n,” I started, my voice sounding steadier than I expected. “Rafe and I have known each other forever. We’ve been through it all together—good times, bad times, and some incredibly embarrassing times. Rafe, for example, can drink to an almost lethal alcohol concentration.”
A few laughs rippled through the crowd, and Rafe chuckled, shaking his head in mock embarrassment. I smiled, feeling the warmth of our shared memories.
“On my 18th birthday, he decided that the best way to celebrate was tequila. Lots and lots of tequila. And while I’m pretty sure we both blocked most of that night from memory, I can confirm that Rafe is, indeed, capable of not remembering an entire evening.”
The room filled with laughter, and even Sofia laughed along, her hand resting gently on Rafe’s arm. I swallowed hard, pushing down the pang in my chest.
“But in all seriousness,” I continued, my tone softening, “choosing the person to share your life with is one of the most important decisions we make. Because if you get it wrong, life can become… well, gray. We both know that well, don’t we, Rafe?” I smiled at him, and for a second, I saw the flicker of understanding in his eyes.
“Your friendship has brought color to my life, and I’ve been lucky enough to have you by my side in some of the darkest moments.” My voice wavered slightly, but I kept going. “I’m the luckiest person in the world for that. And I hope I haven’t ever taken it for granted, though maybe I have at times. Because sometimes, you don’t realize that the best thing that ever happened to you has been right under your nose all along.”
I paused, letting the words hang in the air. Rafe’s smile softened, but I couldn’t tell if he truly understood what I meant. If he’d ever understood how deeply I cared.
“And that’s okay,” I said, more to myself than anyone else. “Because I’ve learned something important: no matter where you are, no matter what you do, or who you’re with, I will always be here for you. I’ll always love you. Like a sister loves her brother, and like a friend loves a friend.”
I saw Rafe’s eyes glisten slightly, and Sofia squeezed his hand tighter, her gaze flicking between us as if trying to decipher something. But it didn’t matter. I couldn’t take back the years of silence. This was his day, not mine.
“I’ll always stand guard for your dreams, Rafe,” I finished, raising my glass. “No matter how far-fetched or impossible they may seem. So, let’s raise a toast to the bride and groom. To Rafe and Sofia Cameron.”
The room echoed my words as everyone lifted their glasses in unison. Rafe smiled at me, a genuine, heartfelt smile that felt like a dagger in my chest. But I smiled back, because that’s what friends do. They celebrate the happiness of the ones they love, even if it’s not their own.
As I sat down, I felt the weight of everything I didn’t say pressing down on me. The laughter and chatter around me blurred into background noise as I stared at my glass, running my thumb along its edge. I was happy for him, truly. But deep down, I couldn’t shake the feeling of what could have been.
Maybe in another life, it would’ve been me standing beside him. Maybe in another life, I would have told him how I felt long before today. But in this life, I would remain what I always was—his best friend.
With music and dancing and stolen glances, I realized that sometimes… love isn’t about being with someone. Sometimes, love is about letting go, and hoping that they find happiness, even if it’s with someone else.

welcome to wherever you are // lance stroll
summary: weddings are supposed to be joyous occasions. but for lance's fiancee, the wedding is just another big milestone that her father never lived to see, like her first day of kindergarten, or her high school graduation.
pairing: lance stroll x hutchence!reader
warnings: depictions of greif, mentions of a parental death.
author's note: i've been on such a bender lately listening to inxs, they truly were one of the greatest bands of the 80s, and I think its a shame that things ended like they did with micheal's death in 1997. i could genuinely talk for hours about it, and about the very real daughter he left behind, but for now i'm going to let the fic speak for itself.
also i feel like i've only done smaus lately bc i've just been in a total idea rut and these are so easy to make lmao
y/n.hutchence just posted to her private story!

y/n.hutchence today was a hard day, despite being the happiest of my life. like most milestones, it was bittersweet. while i spent most of my day in love, and excited for what's to come, part of me was also grieving. my dad should have been here to walk me down the aisle, to meet my husband. to give a speech at the reception. i miss you, dad. but i know that you'd be so proud of me.
to my lovely lance, thank you for choosing me, for loving me. for reminding me that its okay to feel all the emotions at once. i love you forever, my husband xx

“– so forgive me if this sounds too bold you’ve grown on me like cheesy mould I want to love you for all eternity Which is why I ask: Will you marry me?”
Sirius stares at James for several seconds. “You can’t be fucking serious, Prongs.”
“Only fucking his brother, mate,” James jokes to overplay his nerves.
Sirius slowly lets James’ note sink down on the table. “Absolutely not,” he says. “I am not letting you marry my brother if this is your idea of a proposal speech. Forget it.”
James whines, “He said a personal poem is the most romantic thing he can think of, I thought–”
“This is not a poem.”
“What? Of course it is, it rhymes!” James insists.
Sirius snorts. “If this is your only definition of what a poem is, I don’t have to be the one to bar you from proposing, Regulus is going to do that all by himself.” He runs his hands through his hair in despair, getting them stuck in the sunglasses he pushed on top of his head earlier. “I mean you compared him to fucking mould. There is nothing romantic about this! Him declining your proposal would be the best outcome you could hope for at this rate!”
James entire face falls and he looks utterly defeated. “I just wanted to make it perfect for him,” he says meekly. “He deserves to be courted with romance and poetry and all the things he loves, that was the best I could do. And if that’s my best then– then maybe I’m not meant to marry him...”
“No, fuck you,” Sirius snaps. “Absolutely not. James, my brother might love his cheesy novels and romantic poetry, but he loves you more, and you’re not going to take his perfect happy ending away from him because you don’t know what a poem is.”
“But–”
“He said yes to dating you, right?”
James nods in confusion.
“Not some renowned Mr Darcy poet. He wanted to date you, Merlin knows why.” Sirius gives another despairing glance to the note. “So when you propose to him you give my brother exactly what he wants.” He gives James a stern look. “Which is you. Alright?”
James lets the words sink in before he nods slowly. “Alright,” he agrees eventually. “I– You’re right. Thank you.”
“No problem. Just... maybe run the next idea by me as well. Just in case.”
James lets out a little laugh and repeats, “Thank you.”
Sirius reaches across the table and ruffles his best friend’s hair. Then his gaze falls on the speech in front of him once more.
James’ eyes follow his. “Feel free to burn it,” he grimaces.
“Oh, absolutely not,” Sirius says with a mischievous grin and folds the paper up to put it in his pocket. “I’m going to include this in my best man speech at your wedding.” He hesitates for a second before adding, “After Reggie has said his vows and can’t back out of marrying you anymore.”

Pairing: Bucky Barnes x fem!Reader
Summary: Bucky and you are married- that is all.
Word count: 1,165
Warnings: fluff. that is all.
A/N: I’ve never been to a wedding before so if anything’s wrong take it up with my lawyer.
Masterlist
Tumblr media
You remember the day when Bucky proposed like it was yesterday.
The bright fluffy clouds littering the clear blue sky, birds flying freely. Your hand was in Bucky’s as he leads you further into the clearing of the field, you were about to say something when he stopped.
“Y/n I love you, I love everything about you. You save me every day, and every day of being with you is like a dream coming true. And I know we’ve only been dating for a year but when you know you know right?”
Tears welled up in your eyes at the sight of him dropping to one knee-
“Y/n L/n will you make me the happiest man in the universe by marrying me?”
You didn’t even answer. You launched yourself at him making both of you fall to the ground. Placing as many kisses as you possibly could all over his beautiful face, you nodded.
The cheers and applauses sounded from somewhere and when you looked you saw the whole team together with huge smiles on their faces.
You celebrated all throughout the night - at Tony’s expense - with your friends making speeches.
Your wedding day was perfect. Just like the day he proposed the sky was blue and the sun was shining, and just like that day, you got married on that field.
You were nervous and excited. You were marrying the man of your dreams and everything was running smoothly. Your dress fit perfectly and was gorgeous, Pepper told you that you looked like a princess and you had to admit, you kind of did.
Pepper was your maid of honour. Nat, Wanda, Maria and Carol were your bridesmaids- who all looked so beautiful in their dresses.
Steve was Bucky’s best man (obviously) Sam, Bruce, Thor and Vision were his groomsmen - all looking very handsome and dapper in their suits.
Clint was the one to give you away, it was a no brainier as he was like the father you never had.
Morgan bless her heart was the flower girl who was walked down by Peter.
And Tony was the one to marry you two. He was way to smug about that - you later found out that every time you two disagreed with him he would always say “don’t forget who married you two”.
Slowly walking down the makeshift isle, Clint clinging on to you like a lifeline your heart broke at seeing Bucky standing there with tears rolling down his cheeks. Clint hands you over to Bucky with a kiss to your cheek and whispered ‘I love you and I’m so proud of you’ in your ear, you whispered ‘I love you’ back. As Bucky was about to take both hands you wiped away the tears and smiled.
“First, I’d like to begin by welcoming everyone and thanking each and every one of you for being here on this most happy of days. We are here to celebrate the perfect couple - other than myself and Pepper- that we all know and love, James and Y/n.” Everyone laughs at Tony’s comment and how serious his voice sounds.
“Sorry you two but I’m going off script. My sweet darling Y/n I have never seen you more happier since you’ve been with Bucky, and to you Bucky I have to say thank you, you’ve shown her what true love is.” Leaning closer towards Bucky he tries to whisper “You break her heart I won’t hesitate to kill you” Of course Bucky would get threaten on his wedding day, and of course everyone hears what Tony says as he’s holding a microphone. “Anyways, Y/n you helped get Bucky out of his shell and even though we didn’t get along at first it’s been nice seeing him find his footing, a pleasure to meet the man Steve knew a trillion years ago” Again, Tony makes everyone laugh including you and Bucky.
“Bucky you may read your vows”
“Y/n you’re my happiness, my best friend, my love. You’ve been by my side since day one, not once did you leave my side when I was in Wakanda, you help me sleep through the night just because you’re by my side. I love you more than you’ll ever know. I promise in front of everyone here today, to cherish you always, to honour and sustain you, in sickness and in health, in poverty and in wealth, and to be true to you in all things until death alone shall part us”
Tony tries and subtly wipe his tears, clearing his throat he looks to you “Y-Yn you may read your vows now”
“Bucky you’re my happiness, my best friend, my love. I admire your courage, your strength and your determination. I have never felt alone when you’re not by my side because you’re in my heart always. I love you more than you’ll ever know. I promise in front of everyone here today, to cherish you always, to honour and sustain you, in sickness and in health, in poverty and in wealth, and to be true to you in all things until death alone shall part us.”
This time Tony doesn’t bother to wipe the stream of tears away. “No one best try and object to this marriage or I’ll set the big guy on you” Nodding towards to Bruce who waves at everyone “Pepper and Steve please hand over the rings, James repeat after me- With this ring I, James, take you, Y/n, to be no other than yourself. Loving what I know of you, and trusting what I do not yet know, I will respect your integrity and have faith in your abiding love for me, through all our years, and in all that life may bring us.” Watching his lips repeat the words back your heart stills.
“Y/n repeat after me- With this ring I, Y/n, take you, James, to be no other than yourself. Loving what I know of you, and trusting what I do not yet know, I will respect your integrity and have faith in your abiding love for me, through all our years, and in all that life may bring us.”
“Do you James take Y/n to be your lawfully wedded wife?
“I do”
“Do you Y/n take James to be your lawfully wedded husband?
“I do”
“By the authority vested in me by the State of New York, I now pronounce you husband and wife! You may kiss th-“ Bucky’s already pulling you in and kissing you before Tony’s even finished his sentence.
Everyone cheers and there’s not a dry eye around.
The rest of the night was beautiful, everyone taking it in turns to make speech’s. The first dance you two shared as husband and wife was to Stand By Me by Ben E. King.
Tumblr media
Now two years later after that magical day your sat on the bathroom floor with Bucky by your side, staring down at the white pregnancy test.
“T-that says…”
“I’m pregnant Buck”.

Five Minutes
Note - thought I’d upload a little blurb of something I was thinking about yesterday and also to let you know I’m still alive 😂 feedback would be very much appreciated as usual 🩷
Pairing - Mason Mount × Reader
Word count - 1.1K
Warnings - fluff
Tumblr media
‘Just in there you two, we’ll get everyone out and we can start on the pictures’ Alison told you, pointing to a room off to the side ‘you two okay? You did amazing’
‘Thank you so much Alison it was perfect’ you gushed. Squeezing her hand as she led you into the small room next to the one you’d just come from.
The one you’d just got married in.
Alison wasn't just a wedding planner, she’d been your rock throughout this whole experience and as soon as you saw her smiling face as the pair of you walked back down the aisle as husband and wife you couldn’t help but pull her into a big hug. ‘Don’t even mention it’ she winked, grabbing the door handle so she could shut it on the way out and you couldn’t wipe the smile off your face. ‘I’ll be five minutes okay? And congratulations’
As soon as the door shut, your eyes flickered over to Mason. Standing an arms length away from you and you took the time to really look at him properly for the first time all day. Your nerves not letting you appreciate him fully when you were saying your vows as you didn’t want to mess up but now the hard part was over you just wanted to look at your man.
His hair was freshly trimmed and just how you liked it. Short on the sides but fluffy on top and pushed back into his signature quiff. His beard long and nicely shaped on the sides and the suit he’d chosen was hugging him perfectly. But it was his bright smile that really caught your eye and you couldn’t help but reciprocate it as he held a hand out to you.
‘C’mere’ he murmured, pulling you into his chest so he could hold you to him and you melted into his embrace as you felt his chest rumble underneath you. ‘I can’t believe we actually did it’
‘I know’ you laughed, pulling back to look at him before kissing him softly. ‘I can’t believe it’s over’
‘Nah we’ve got the rest of the day to go yet, need to show off my beautiful wife to everyone’ he teased, and you giggled at his words. ‘I can’t believe I’ve got a wife’
‘I can’t believe I’ve got a husband. I feel like we sound super old now’ you told him, watching his eyes crinkle as he looked at you lovingly.
‘We’re just getting started’ he winked, pulling back so he could look you up and down and you felt your cheeks flush under his loving stare. ‘You look so so beautiful baby. Honestly, the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. And I’m not just saying that because I have to now’ he joked, causing you to roll your eyes as he pulled you back to him but the butterflies were still swarming making you feel a little shy. Mason looked so handsome and the bright smile on his face only made you fall for him even more but you let him wrap his arms around your waist and you rested yours on his chest. ‘I’m serious, you look like a princess’’
‘Do you like my dress?’ You asked, watching his smile grow wider as he nodded shyly before kissing you cheek and making you feel even more giddy.
‘It’s perfect. You're perfect’ he whispered, eyes filling with tears just as they had when he’d first caught sight of you in it earlier and you could tell he was clearly a little overwhelmed by everything that had just happened so you reached up to cup his cheeks in order to calm him a little. Resting your foreheads on each others for comfort as he took a relaxing breath out.
‘We’re you nervous? You know, standing and waiting for me?’
‘Bricking it’ he laughed, rubbing his nose against yours gently. ‘I still am a little bit I think. There’s so much more to do today and I know I've still got Dec’s speech to go. But I knew as soon as I saw you walking up that aisle to me that everything would be okay’ he told you. Kissing your cheek softly as you smiled even wider. ‘It’s never happened to me before but it’s like time stopped and there was only me and you in there’
‘I was the same. I was shaking so much as we were walking down here before but as soon as I saw you I felt so calm. Like I knew everything would be okay’
‘God I love you so much’ he laughed, finally placing another kiss on your lips but the pair of you didn’t take it any further than that as you knew Alison could be back any second.
‘I love you too’ you told him quietly.
‘I know I’m gonna annoy you cause I’ll keep saying this all day, but I really can’t get over the fact I’ve got a wife now’
‘It is a little crazy’ you laughed. ‘And I can’t believe she’s me of all people’
‘No, it was always gonna be you’ he told you sincerely, feeling your bottom lip wobble at his words. You were so hopelessly in love with this boy and you seemed to be falling harder for him with every second. ‘I missed you last night too. Took me ages to get to sleep’
‘Well we can have an early night tonight’
‘Oh bog off, I’ve got plans for us’ he winked and you knew exactly what he meant by that. All Mason seemed to talk about lately was the wedding night and how good he was going to make you feel making your tummy fizzed with excitement wondering what might be in store for you later.
‘You know this is probably the only time we’ll get alone until then’ you told him, watching him nod solemnly but you knew he was excited to get back out there and see all his friends and family.
‘Better make sure we make it count then huh?’ He teased. Pulling you into his chest a bit more as you wrapped your arms around his neck again as he slowly swayed you from side to side. The both of you silent as you tried to soak in the moment and calm each other down but it was interrupted but a knock on the door and Alison appearing again.
‘You two ready to go?’ She asked, feeling Mason pull away from you so he could take your hand. Looking at you lovingly and with one final nod to each other you faced her.
‘Ready’

- a rant
no because ive watched this stupid show 5 years ago, and i only noticed this now?? how???
ok. some context first. this is about fox' gotham, a prequel series to batman. or at least a potential one with slight changes. one of those changes is the relationship between oswald cobblepot and edward nygma (spelled with a 'y' for mayhap legal reasons? idfk its silly). whats their relationship like in the show? well...
theyre gay af. idk what to tell you.
okay so oswalds gay as fuck. edwards... ambiguous. totally ambiguous. he had a girlfriend or 2 and a half (kristen kringle, the-woman-who-shall-not-be-named (aka kristen but... blonde? this show is weird), and lee. not comfy counting lee, but technically shes one, hence the 'and a half')! very straight, much hetero (on another side note how tf is oswald the gay one, like i know he wears make-up and shit but eddies all about theatrics and showmanship and flair and hOW IS OSWALD THE GAY ONE NEXT TO HIM?? ok anyway).
so oswald was (is. be real.) canonically in love with ed, ed was.........., and 'penguin in love' is a piece of music composed by david russo for season three in which the whole "im in love with my best friend" thing took place.
that song has been used all over season three, as far as i can tell not once in season four, and once in season five.
.....or so i thought.
because yesterday, while in another obsession phase (of which i get one a few times a year. ive only ever watched the show once, in 2019, when it ended. still dream about nygmobblepot though. i dont dream about media, like ever, but with them, its different), i saw 5x8 to satiate my never satisfied craving of nygmob scenes, obviously skipping the main story bc i dont care about that straight shit. i got to the scene where oswald kills mr. scarface and frees arthur penn from said mr. scarface, after which ed shoots him in the head because thats what one does in such a situation, thought "aw how cute", again, as one does, and then realised.
what was that background music just now? rewinds.... oh. oh haha, its 'penguin in love'. how fun.
WHAT.
WHY IS THAT IN THERE. WHY DID THEY INCLUDE IT.
correction. it wouldve made sense to have it here. they used it in 5x5 for the speech about not backstabbing each other (wedding vows for murderers fr fr), so using it again after their relationship has solidified wouldve made sense.
note how im saying 'would have'.
because it would have made sense, if they used it when ed said "i accept you for the person that you are, just as you accept me for the cold logician that i am. thats why this friendship is great." they didnt, though. they used another equally heartfelt song for that. dunno what its called, it sounds a bit like 'penguin in love' but isnt, not sure if that one has a specific meaning like 'penguin in love' does.
so when was the song used? at 36:08 – 36:17. barely ten seconds, right before eds lines, right before ed kills penn.
...right when penn was sitting in oswalds lap because theyd been fighting for the gun and os fell on the ground.
now. the most obvious answer to "why in the fucking hell" would be because ooh this dudes on his lap so sexy, but no. no. 'penguin in love' is about one specific thing: love. the pure kind. the kind that makes you giddy with butterflies in your stomach, kicking your legs, while youre on your bed, writing in your diary about this guy you have a crush on. and oswald and penn do have history, oswald was more or less fond of penn, but not in love (i mean where would he have found the room in his heart if it was already filled with EDWARD EDWARD EDWARD martin my sweet boy EDWARD EDWARD EDWA-). im also definitely not thinking that penn was so happy about being free from mr. scarfaces influence and not having to kill oswald (oh yeah, the horror. who would wanna kill oswald, the guy with the big ego, who never does anything for anyone without some kind of endgoal- well, unless your name is edward of course) that he instantly fell in love with the guy. i can deal with the homicidal kind of crazy, but that? no. thats where i draw the line.
the next most obvious answer is that it was about oswalds love for ed. more believable, since its what the song was made for, but more believable doesnt mean believable. or likely. because even if i 100% believe that hes been loving this dude for so long its not something he has to think about anymore for it to be true, im pretty sure that itd be very random to suddenly focus on that when oswald was just about to die. so no, even if its what the song is intrinsically about.
so next most obvious answer is- wait. thats it. huh? theres no obvious answer anymore? everything else is brainrot? oh. oh well. its been five years, im sure its too late to worry about it now. what the hell.
im sure you know where im going with this. or maybe not. honestly idk what the fuck im talking about-
youre smart. you know what im about to say. if it wasnt about what oswald was feeling because he was otherwise preoccupied, and it wasnt about penn because that makes no fucking sense, then who was this song used for? who else was in the room?
...oh.
Tumblr media
YOU.
Tumblr media
YOU FUCKING IMBECILE. YOU STUPID DENSE PIECE OF-
inhale, exhale. no. don’ get mad, you know he cant help it. you know hes totally helpless when it comes to emotions. just breathe. ok.
i hate him. i hate him so much.
if the song wasnt for oswalds sake, it was for his. because i know hes in love with oswald, but does ed? does the producers??
'penguin in love' is about oswalds love. its about his love for edward. its about their love, their relationship. its about edward just as much as it is about oswald.
a-fucking-PPARANTLY, I DIDNT KNOW THAT!! I JUST THOUGHT OH YEAH OZZY BE THE GAY ONE HAHA FUNNY, I DIDNT KNOW IT COULD BE ABOUT ED DIRECTLY!!!
(why am i like this? what is my life? i will never be normal.)
ed has always been the obsessive one. first kristen (and the woman who shall not be named is just an extention of that ofc), then oswald, then lee. and as weve seen with kristen, when hes obsessed with someone, he can become possessive. absolutely not on the scale oswald is on, but still. theres a wee bit of jelly there. oh you have a boyfriend? better get rid of him! oh you wanna run away from me bc i murdered your boyfriend? better keep you right in place and- oh shit did i kill you? ono D:
this is a huge oversimplification, but you get the point. its there. or at least it has to be there because why else do you get so angy that someone is sitting in the lap of your just friend because they were fighting and they ended up in that position totally accidentally? like thats not normal behaviour, for anyone, unless you have possessive tendencies.
i mean its not like penn was a threat in any way. "he wasnt the threat, the dummy was the-" like i understand ed told penn about the submarine which was supposed to be a secret, but come on, like they couldnt make sure penn wouldnt say anything. so why would ed shoot him? its not even like penn was a random dude where that type of thing would be very inconsequential, oswald knew him. hed worked for oswald, and like i said, oswald was more or less fond of the guy. penns just a poor little meow meow, y u kil him eddie? 🥺
unless this fondness was part of the problem. unless ed saw how happy oswald was to see him, got annoyed but let it slide, then used penn attacking os and knowing about the sub as an excuse to kill him. and why would oswald being happy to see penn be a problem to ed? it wouldnt be. it wouldnt be, unless ed thinks oswald is his.
which makes sense. i know im calling him names and calling him out, but like. oswald told him he loved him like 5 times 2 years prior, i dont blame him for believing that maybe theres something to it (especially since that was the point of 3x14, oswald really being in love with him and surprising himself with it). but i thought ed didnt feel the same way? because hes very hetero? because he had a full-on girlfriend before, twice, technically? because-
"the truth is oswald, you would sacrifice anyone to save your own neck. even me."
"like i said! you will always fail, because youll never change."
hm. i know this is a bit off topic, but i just got a war-flashback and... why did ed sound so hurt when he said that? "youll never change." "you would sacrifice anyone. even me." why does he care? they were friends, best friends, yes, but why does he sound like a heartbroken wife who just found out her husband cheated on her again? why does-
"honestly you deserve this. you are opportunistic, your loyalty is.. shaking, at best, and you will hurt anyone, anyone, to get what you want."
"and yes, i was not a good friend. to you or anyone. its why im alone. but i saw you for what you are and i valued that!"
...why would edward nygma, the man who literally said "i dont love you" to oswald, be jealous of even the idea that maybe penn could have something going on with oswald? and why would he act on it if hes usually so careful to not reveal his feelings (unless its about kristen. the original obsession, the american dream, the just be normal, show them you are normal, and people will accept you)? he wouldnt.
unless oswald just told him that he knows he messed up. that hes sorry for it.
and unless that made him think that maybe theres a chance.
"love is about sacrifice. its about putting someone elses needs and happiness before your own."
"you gave up your revenge for me?"
a chance... for what?
"life begins anew."
"shall we get to work?"
and if theres a chance, hes not about to risk losing it. not this time.
so maybe 'penguin in love' is about more than just oswalds feelings. maybe they were trying to tell us that, yes, we see you traumatised gay kid, were sorry this is all we can give you, but here you go, eds in love with him too, but don’t tell the channel. subtlely. just for barely ten seconds. and maybe it can be enough.
nope, it wont be. im gonna sit here crying about the injustice of not having them kiss on screen in the finale as was originally intended for the rest of my life. seriously though, what is this, nbc's hannibal, where im noticing something new details every single time i watch the show, causing me to spiral? no, i was already spiralling. the spiralling was the reason i rewatched the scene. the scene simply made it worse.
so yeah, im done freaking out about a mediocre show that was cancelled 5 years ago and is honestly not worth anyones time (like, its ok. it might even be better than i remember since its been so long. i doubt it. but its ok).
tl;dr: ive only now realised that a specific gay song plays in a specific episode of a show i watched 5 years ago and the only reason theyd include it in the episode is if the dude that was not canonically in love with the other dude was in fact gay, they just werent allowed to make it canon, so they added the gay song to subtlely tell us about it.
have a wonderful day, hellsite. dont do what i did and go crazy about fictional gay people. i know you will though, that’s why im here too. i hate gay people. these two make me homophobic so bad, i wanna gauge my eyes out and skin myself-

Aemond Targaryen x Female!reader
Summary: Set after Storm's End. You are to marry prince Aemond Targaryen -the killer of your beloved friend Lucerys-, in the old Valyrian way.
Rating: +13, arranged marriage
A/n: Okay, I was pretty unsure to post this one. Keep in mind English is not my first language. Enjoy! Feedback will be appreciated 🥺
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Her feet sank in the softness of the damp sand, and the sound of the waves crashing on the shore tore her attention away from the speech of the monk standing next to her and her husband.
/Hen lantoti ānogar/
No, he wasn't her husband yet. This wasn't a customary wedding, at least not in westerosi tradition. Perhaps that's why the dowager queen let her dissaproval be known and refused her attendance that morning, forcing the solitude and the intimacy in the ceremony to stand out in the vast coast where Aemond decided it would be held.
She cursed him in her mind when the heaviness of her eyelids made the restlessness she had the night before become more evident, as the prince instructed her days prior that she should be present before the break of dawn.
There was a chill in the cold, morning brisk that made her skin shiver, and the flames coming from the fire holders surrounding them weren't enough to warm her.
/Va syndroti vāedroma/
Y/n felt ridiculous, out of place even, when she saw herself wearing the ornamented headpiece and the silky, oversized robe meant for her to use that morning. It wasn't at all what she expected, not in the least close to the frugality of the dress she would be wearing in the evening at the sept.
Isn't this meant to be used only by pure blooded valyrians?, she wondered, but she was well aware that wouldn't be a fact Aemond would let in into his obtuse, stubborn mind.
She even imagined how Aegon the conqueror and his sisters would turn in their graves if they saw them tanting the millennial ritual by binding a Targaryen with a puny westerosi. Hell, even Aegon -the drunkard- laughed his ass off when he received the news of his younger brother being wed to her in the old fashion.
/Mēro perzot gīhoti/
He wore the same muted robe as she did, but this time a heavily decorated eyepatch adorned his angular face, besides the relaxed smirk he had from the second he spotted her moments before she stood next to him.
It was unfair, she thought, how the dressing fitted so well on him, as much as she hated to admit.
The ancient outfit was meant to combine with his valyrian, regal features, and the statuesque demeanor he showed made her feel like a fragile and simple peasant, as if he was a prince who came from the Old Valyria to be bound with her for eternity.
/Elēdroma iārza sīr/
Y/n spotted the pink wine tint on their shoulders and immediately reasoned how it blended together with the warm sky above them, the same as the creamy soft color on the ends of the robe, just like the sand where they stood.
Oh, so this is why he chose the sunrise...
/Izulī ampā perzī/
The lady felt her legs quivering when the monk handed the prince a small knife, but then she recalled how the main point of the ceremony centered around joining their blood together.
Aemond turned to face her, with a reassuring look on his only eye, as if he knew he frightened her by holding the small, glassy weapon. He closed the distance between them and raised her chin with his cold digits as he lifted the dagger near her face.
Hearing him mutter a soft look at me, y/n felt a sharp sting on her bottom lip, which made her eyes water as the cold material left a fresh wound where it slid down.
The Targaryen traced her pillowy lips with his thumb, collecting blood to draw a small figure on her forehead with it.
She didn't understand what it meant, and y/n wished, if he was so adamant on being wed to her, that he could at least had the consideration of taking his time to explain to her the vows the priest spoke in that rich language of theirs, and the blood sigils they were supposed to mark on each other.
/Prūmī lanti sēteksi/
Before she could ponder on the strange words, Aemond grabbed her hand giving her the knife with a determined look on his face, expecting her to do the same to him.
She stepped closer to him and, much to her dismay, her trembling hands dropped the knife to the ground. Y/n felt her face burning with shame and heard a small chuckle coming from the prince standing in front of her.
Asshole, prick, jerk, accursed kinslayer. A whole cascade of insults towards him crescented in her mind.
Clenching her teeth with anger she crouched, swiftly picking up the instrument while holding her headpiece in place to prevent it from falling. She didn't need to embarrass herself any longer that morning.
/Hen jeny māzīlarion/
Y/n held the dagger tightly and she stood on her tiptoes so she could allow herself to reach the towering valyrian, finding balance gripping his upper arm and finally giving him the small cut on his lip.
Aemond had to lower his face for her to draw the bloody symbol on him, and she prayed in her mind she drew the correct figure as she remembered it was.
Once his hand reached hers to take the knife, the knot on her throat tightened almost constrictingly as she observed Aemond giving himself a long slash, feeling immediate nausea when she saw the sanguine fluid pooling on the palm of his hand.
She was certain Aemond probably knew she wouldn't have the courage to cut herself, and proved right when he extended her arm by the wrist firmly to prevent her from pulling it back.
Without warning, the icy steel bit her and y/n flinched in pain, choking a small whimper as Aemond put their hands together intertwining their fingers, almost as if he tried to comfort her.
Her blood mixed with his when her palm rested between his long calloused digits, dripping through the small spaces allowing them to be joined together in this old rite the prince insisted so much to carry out.
The seeping crimson liquid gave his usually cold skin an odd warmth, almost nostalgically so.
/Qēlossa ozūndesi/
The priest approached them continuing his chanting, offering her a wooden cup to drink from. Y/n inspected the small runes carved on it before putting it to her lips and taking some slows sips of what appeared to be spiced wine, with her tongue starting to burn fiercely.
It seemed Aemond wasn't bothered by the fiery sensation after his turn to drink from the cup, his usual calm facade remained intact.
/Syndroro ōñō jēdo/
His feet took a step closer to her, as she tried avoiding the intense stare from his one eye while he slowly leaned down to caress her cheek.
The soft stroke became a strong grip on her jaw, and the prince began closing the distance between them, placing his lips on hers, need and want emanating from the rythm of his breathing.
Much to y/n's surprise, the kiss was soft, slow, maybe too passionate for a religious ceremony as his mouth found hers with boiling desperation, forcing the hotness under her skin rush to her cheeks in seconds.
One of his hands kept her in place while the other found rest in her shoulder, gently tugging at her robe as if he couldn't wait to free her from it.
Nevertheless, y/n had no other choice but to return the kiss, closing her eyes and imagining the one kissing her was the sweet prince who spent his afternoons on the library with her reading about history, and not the murderer who plotted her dear friend's death.
/Ry kīvia mazvestraksi/
She heard Aemond groan softly in frustration when he pulled away, as if he had to refrain himself from claiming her mouth how he truly wanted.
When the priest finished his vows, they both stared at each other while the fires cracked vigorously before being put out.
Y/n was too well aware Aemond could see the fear and rejection in her eyes, unlike him, whose gaze was so ardent it made her shrink into a tight knot of nervousness.
- Our blood is bound together now, Rūs.- he expressed, a hint of excitement blossoming on his voice,- ... I will finally make you mine tonight.
The soft burr from his tone and the lascivous threat almost made her spun on her heels to run away.
- I won't allow you in my bed!- she replied with irritation.
Aemond only chuckled, wearing his usual stance with his arms behind his back.
-Hm... I will be your lord husband once the high septon anoint us with the Seven's blessings, so...- the prince dangerously leans over her, revelling on her anxious state.
I think I'll have the right to do as I want with you.
Can you imagine your wedding day with Vash?
It's sudden, that's for sure - both of you wake up one day, years into your engagement, and Vash has this look in his eye and asks, "Wanna get married today?"
Of course you say yes.
You both bully Wolfwood into officiating the wedding. He does it with grumbles, but you can see the pleased blush on his face at being so included. Meryl and Milly scramble to put together bouquets made of fake flowers and shiny metal bits found in the local pawn shop and just around town. Meryl complains that it should be more, that there should be a venue, decorations, something, but Milly can barely talk because she's so choked up about being made a bridesmaid.
Your dress is simple - something you packed away in your sack for fancier occasions. It's not even white, but it's special, now. You slip it on, pressing down the wrinkles from being at the bottom of your pack for so long. You have to go in your boots, and you worry you don't look like a bride.
That worry vanishes when you see the look on Vash's face.
You appear in the little church the town has, and you can hear the breath leave your man when you walk through the doors. He's staring. Of course he's staring, you look beautiful. Milly did up your hair the best way she knew how, and Meryl helped to clean you up and put some make-up on your cheeks. He's seen you in that dress before, and he still thinks it's perfect for you, how it hugs your curves and just screams you. Wolfwood has to nudge him a bit, giving him a cheeky smile when he sees the tears in Vash's eyes.
You walk down the isle to no music, and when you reach him, Vash reaches out his hand to hold yours. His thumb rubs your ring finger, absent of your engagement ring in favor of using it for the ceremony. "We'll fix that," he murmurs, and you smile at him with your own tears.
Wolfwood does his best at being a proper priest, for the most part. There's a lot of 'ums' said as he makes up his speech while going along. When you get to your vows, Vash pulls out a paper you didn't know he had and reads it:
"Mayfly, I didn't sit back and take inventory of your qualities and say 'this one ticks all the boxes, done.' I was drawn to you and profoundly lucky that you were drawn to me. And we started something that we still work on everyday, that gets deeper and wrinklier every day. I hope that doesn't sound unromantic, calling it work. I don't mean work like drudgery, watching the clock waiting for work to be over - I mean work the way artists talk about paintings as vital and prioritized. It's the most important work of my life, our partnership, and I cherish it. Also, to be clear, I am hopelessly in love with you. That helps. I am on a daily basis completely knocked over by the person in front of me; this crazy dancing, music humming, sweet and spicy woman that I get to spend my life with. It's just that life is long, and I know that loving well is a thing you do, not a lottery you win."
He goes on to promise to always cherish you, listen to you, love you the way you deserve. By the time he's done, you're a mess, and your make-up is running. You kiss him before Wolfwood can even say "I pronounce you husband and wife," but when have you two ever done things the "normal" way?
Tumblr media
Credit to @cullinmcgree on TikTok for the vows I use here - her husband's vows; I fell in love with them and just had to share them in a short story with Vash! I hope one day we may all find someone who loves as ardently as that man loves his wife.
Omega!Neji x Alpha!Reader - Yours.
Congratulations to Neji as the winner of my first poll! (Also shout out to the literal two other people that voted for Kankuro with me XD) As promised, here is a Neji x reader wedding drabble. Enjoy~
Tumblr media
Word count: 1.2k
Warnings: Mentions of alcohol and both reader and Neji having consumed some. Suggestive content but nothing explicit.
It was almost 01:30 when the last of your guests stumbled off home, and 02:00 before you and Neji were able to start the short journey from the centre of your clan’s small compound where the wedding had been held, to the northern edge where your house resided.
As the cool air caressed your heated cheeks, you were grateful that the walk would be short; the alcohol, euphoria and exhaustion was mixing in a way that made you want to sit down. Even Neji, arguably the most graceful person you knew, was stumbling a little as he walked, leaning heavily on the arm you had linked with his.
Neji. Your husband. Yours. Just thinking that had a giddy laugh bubbling up.
“What are you laughing about?” Neji asked, his voice sounding a little breathless.
You slowed down and turned to face him properly, enchanted by the way the moonlight seemed to seep into his skin. The elaborate bun that his hair was styled in was looser than it had been this (technically yesterday) morning, with more strands than intended framing his face. A part of Tenten’s speech automatically came to mind.
“Neji insisted he wasn’t nervous, and that the date would probably be mediocre, but no one spends three hours and uses two hair masks before meeting up with someone they don’t care about,” Tenten had said, recounting the morning before yours and Neji’s first date.
“How beautiful you are,” you said, clumsily pecking him on the cheek. “Did I tell you how much I love your hair?”
“Once or twice,” he snorted, pulling on your linked arms to encourage you to start moving again.
“And the way you wore my clan’s traditional wedding kimono, I wasn’t expecting that,” you said. Honestly, you had almost cried and got a bit too horny at the same time which had been a unique experience. “I feel bad for every other clan marriage in the near future, because none of the omegas will be able to pull it off like you did. You look like an ethereal spirit in pastel green.”
“Personally, I feel sorry for the alphas; they will never be able to compete with you, to look as striking, to say better vows, to kiss their omegas the way you kissed me,” Neji’s voice trailed off quietly as he spoke, perhaps remembering the kiss.
“I know they will be happy forever,” Lee had said with a startling amount of sincerity during his speech. “Because I have never met any pair whose passion has burned as brightly! My rival and I have competed many times, but in matters of love, I will have to concede for the moment, because he has truly chosen a special alpha.”
The conversation fell silent for a moment. You tried to commit as much of this to memory as you could, focusing on the sound of the leaves rustling on the trees, the sight of the empty compound at night, the warmth and weight of Neji by your side. Perhaps slightly less romantic, you also noticed the way your feet ached, heard a few drunken mumblings from your guests also making their ways home, and spotted a wine stain on your top.
“We all saw how smitten y/n was during the vows, but what you didn’t see was all the terribly awkward pining that happened to get here,” Sakura had grinned at you during her speech, seemingly more than happy to horrifically embarrass you. “Like the time at Ichiraku’s ramen stand when I said Neji’s name and they smiled automatically, dribbling broth into their lap.”
Less romantic perhaps, but not imperfections, at least not to you; these were all signs that your day had been fun, and that was more important than anything. As your front door came into view, you were proud to say that you didn’t regret a single moment of your wedding day, and you told Neji as much.
“Surely it’s not over yet,” he replied, pulling your house key from kami knows where and unlocking the door. “There’s still so much we could do to make the last moments of the night… perfect.”
Your mouth dried up at the look he was giving you and you swallowed heavily. His lips were still stained slightly pink and you couldn’t draw your eyes away from them. How could one person be so beautiful?
“I’ll never forget the advice y/n gave to me before my fight with Neji at the chunin exams,” Naruto had said in his speech, winking at you when you had mouthed a violent threat because of what he was about to reveal. “They said ‘Try to aim for that stupidly beautiful face, pretty boys hate that’.”
“The things you do to me,” you muttered as Neji shut the front door and stepped right up until his chest was pressed against yours. It was common knowledge that Hyuuga had especially intoxicating scents, but the way Neji’s floral scent was filling your brain and clinging to your skin shouldn’t be possible.
“I’m more interested in the things you’ll be doing to me,” Neji’s whispered, his lips hovering about a centimetre away from yours.
There was so much pressure between you that you felt like it was burning you. It was building and building, and you didn’t know who would be the one to pop it first.
“But first,” Neji breathed, eyes fluttering closed.
Yours closed automatically, a heavy anticipation pressing on your chest.
“We both need a shower.”
Of course.
BONUS:
You had never showered so fast in your life, desperate to keep the whole endeavour less than ten minutes at all costs. Neji had showered first and taken much longer, but he had been disadvantaged in having to take off the elaborate wedding kimono, something you had done while he was showering.
Body? Done.
Hair? Done.
Teeth? Done.
Towel dry? Eh, good enough.
Eagerly, you wrapped the towel around you and stepped out into the hall, padding along the corridor until you reached your bedroom. A flash of excitement twisted in your stomach as you pushed open the door.
The sight that greeted you took a few moments to comprehend.
It was Neji, wearing only his short, silk dressing gown, the royal blue one that you loved so much, and laying on your bed. In many ways, it was a better sight than the one you had been using to motivate yourself in the shower. But it was also different.
Because Neji was asleep.
You crept over to him, arousal dropping into something fonder. Yep, he was asleep. His chest was rising and falling softly, lips ever so slightly parted and hair fanned out behind him like a dark halo. The sight of your new husband sleeping so peacefully suddenly filled you with so much emotion that it was difficult to bear. You gently brushed a stand of hair out of his face.
No matter, you decided, dropping the towel and changing into pyjamas, you had two weeks of honeymoon starting tomorrow and you would more than make up for tonight.
Once you were changed, you slid Neji under the covers before joining him, and with one final glance at the clock that proudly proclaimed it to be 03:37, you turned off the light and let all the positive feelings, new memories and the presence of your new husband lead you to sleep.
Am I Enough?
I straight up cried writing this and had to backspace almost every time I wrote I instead of you. I went to a wedding this weekend and well, this is kinda how I feel
Pairing: Shinso Hitoshi x fem!reader
Warnings: time skip, angst, comfort, absoutely self indulgent
Word count: 1.2K
Tumblr media
You should be happy in this moment. You should be loudly rejoicing with all of your friends and loved ones. It is, after all, a wondrous occasion. Two people have decided to make a commitment to each other and take the ultimate vow. The decorations are exquisite, the color scheme matching the bride and groom’s taste to a T. The dresses and tuxedos are sharp and refined in a way that can only be described as elegant and beautiful. You were dressed up too, flaunting a floor length dress that accentuated all of your best assets. You sat there staring at the soon to be married couple, tearing up and choking on words as they recite their vows. The love shown between the two of them and for them could be felt in the chapel.The bride nervously fumbles through her words as the moment is clearly overwhelming in the best possible way. The officiant announces the newlyweds and the spectators erupt in cheers and applause, yourself included. You watch as they bride, groom, wedding party, and parents of the newlyweds walk down the aisle for their procession. It was a lovely affair, with even lovelier people and music.
The drinks flowed as openly and easily as the reception. The entrance of the wedding party, bride and groom were all done super well. The toasts and speeches were laced with emotion and well wishes of love and success. You smile and laugh when appropriate, clapping along and enjoying the festivities. Your stomach is full of nourishment and contentment as you dance with the night away, almost as if you’re dancing on thin air. There was nary a negative thought in your mind that you could notice (although your brain was running a mile a minute with thoughts but you were too infrosswd with the wonderful feelings to truly notice). You made new friends, caught up with old, it was a ball. You returned to the hotel in the shuttle you arrived in, singing alive gleefully to the music as plans for the night began to unfold.
Many gathered in the lobby of the hotel and the party moved to an executive suite. One of the groomsmen, close friend Shinso Hitoshi, finds you out on the balcony. Your glass has remnants of a hastily made cocktail as you swirl it in your hand. The sliding door shuts behind you, the sound of laughter and music dying down as Shinso rests his forearms on the edge of the balcony with you. “You’ve been oddly quiet,” he comments before taking a swig. “Mind telling me what’s going on? Aren’t you having fun?”
You nod quickly to try and keep any emotions at bay. Why are the thoughts that were kept under wraps now wanting to slip through the seams? You cough out a bit, “of course I’m having fun! Didn’t you see Sero making me a drink?” You take a sip and pucker your face. “A little heavy on the tequila but, s-still good.”
Shinso sighs with a chuckle, “you know that’s not what I mean. Your mind,” he touches your forehead lightly, “is full of thoughts. What’s happening?”
Your breath catches in your throat as your jaw goes slack. Damn him, how is he so good at reading you? Like a dam ready to burst, your eyes gloss over as fresh warm tears cascade down your cheeks. They fall freely as all those thoughts you wanted buried float to the surface. Your lip trembles as you struggle to breathe. Shinso’s face softens as he puts his own drink down and rests his hand on your shoulder. “Hey,” he kindly coos out, “what happened?”
“It’s, it’s not fair.”
Your voice comes out vulnerable and weak, a tremor in it as you speak. You’re starting to regret the open bar at the reception. “Why, just…why?”
Your shoulders start to shake as your emotions overwhelm you. Shinso braces you and holds your shoulders. “Why what? If it’s the drink I’ll tell Sero to cut back-“
“Why aren’t I having this happen to me too? I-I mean, what am I doing wrong? I’ve been nice, I put myself out there,” I shake out of his embrace. “But I’m never worth it! I try to date and I want to be in a relationship but all they want is either just sex or to waste my time! Is it me?” I look toward him exasperated and downtrodden, clenching my fist angrily. “Am I not enough? Am I not worthy of,” I gesture to behind him and around him, “this? I do so much work and improvement on myself mentally a-and in my career and…” you bawl harder as it all comes crashing down on you. “Am I too big? Is my body not ideal? Am I too damaged? Just what is it, Shinso?! Why am I unlovable? Why am I undatable?”
Your voice had gotten louder and louder as your truth came to the forefront. You hadn’t meant to lose control but you were like a rushing river. The dress that hangs on your body feel heavy like rags as you judge your appearance in your mind. You had worked so hard to look your best and not it seems as if it’s not enough.
You hug yourself as you sit in one of the empty chairs on the balcony. Shinso kneels in front of you, gently placing a hand on your knee to keep you steady. “Hey, kitten,” he whispers softly, “look at me.”
You take a deep breath and do as he says. His eyes hold your gaze steadfast and unwavering. Shinso smiles softly as he takes one of your hands. “You’re one of my best friends, you know that? So I’m gonna be honest with you.” He clears his throat before speaking.
“You are amazing. And you deserve better than the way you’ve been treated. I never thought you would even look my way. When Deku told me you’d been invited to the wedding, I was ecstatic. I know we danced only briefly,” he squeezes your hand, “but I have wanted to hold you like that for years.” Your eyes widen at his confession and you relax in the seat.
“I,” you start, “I don’t understand…”
His smile grows and softens as the group inside cheers over something happening inside. “I know we’ve been drinking, but I promise the feelings I have for you are real.
“You are worthy and enough for love, for a relationship, for all of it. You deserve it. And if you let me,” he raises himself up to lean in closer to you, “I’d like to be that person for you.” Shinso bridges the gap between the two of you and presses his lips against yours. He kisses you so softly and gently like you’re a treasure to be taken care of. You breathe heavily when he pulls away as heat rushes to your cheeks. “You are so beautiful, the most beautiful woman I’ve ever met.”
A couple more tears fall from your eyes as you smile goofily at him. An incomprehensible laugh leaves your throat as you stare into his eyes. You had thought for so long that you would be alone and were coming to terms with it. But right now, Shinso had just proved you wrong and you were happy for it.
Like The Dawn by The Oh Hellos is about Adam and Eve but ...Jonathan hospitalized in Hungary with brain fever and mad, seeing Mina, and marrying her
And like the dawn you broke the dark and my whole earth shook
I was sleeping in the garden when I saw you
And like the dawn you woke the world inside of me
You were the brightest shade of sun when I saw you
At last, at last
Bones of my bones and flesh of my flesh, at last
And you will surely be the death of me
But how could I have known?
I wanted to get to this ask on their wedding day, but I'm a bit late. Alas, I wanted that so I didn't have to tag spoilers on this but I'm gonna do it anyway because parts remind me of scenes from later in the book.
This is such a sweet song. Jonathan thinking of Mina as the dawn, the sunlight... I love it. Even before they reunite, the thought of her kept him going. But when they meet again...
You didn't mention the first two lines but I think they work really well: "I was sleeping in the garden when I saw you first / he'd put me deep, deep under so that he could work / and like the dawn you broke the dark and my whole earth shook" Like, "the garden" is a place to grow and heal, it's the hospital! And yet his sleeping wasn't good in this context, he was lost/unaware. Dracula putting Jonathan deep deep under so he could work is quite a twist on how I'm sure that line is meant to be read but I think it works super well. Dracula's work is of course his plans for his trip. Jonathan being deep under referring both to his torment and despair, the attempt at damning him to become a vampire too (his fate if he'd remained in the castle), and finally in the same sense that he is 'asleep'. He's buried in pain and madness and trauma. But then Mina comes in, and she breaks the dark, and his world changes around him to something better.
In the next verse, the line "bones of my bones and flesh of my flesh, at last" is of course a specific reference to Adam and Eve but I think is also a quote used to show how closely linked two people can be? In any case it works excellently for their marriage, for them joining together... The 'at last' is his profound relief and joy at finally returning to her, at marrying her. (It also works so well for the line right before, when seeing her gets two "at last, at last"). This line also works so well in contrast to Dracula's perversion of a 'wedding vow' in his wine-press speech where he says Mina will be "flesh of my flesh; blood of my blood; kin of my kin;" in a moment of horrible triumph. But she's already bones of Jonathan's bones, flesh of his flesh; as she later tells Jonathan their souls "are knit into one, for all life and all time".
So she wakes the world inside of him, she was the brightest shade of sun.... and then after the musical interlude, we get the lines: "at last / and you will surely be the death of me / but how could I have known?" These lines, if anything, take us from their wedding to Jonathan's vow. There's a kind of sad tone to this part which works better there. The lingering 'at last'... If she dies, then she'll be the death of him too because he'll be joining her. The line about 'how could I have known' doesn't actually sound regretful in any way and the song begins to build back up with repetitions of the memory of her being the brightest shade of sun, of her saving him. I think that part works well for his devotion and dedication to follow her even if that sun sets.
Ultimate Sibling Wedding Videographer Duo (Patent Pending)
Vanessa and Warren's wedding through the eyes (and camcorder) of Kendra and Seth. (1.8k)
Ao3 or Wattpad
[The camcorder starts recording with the time and place stamp on the picture. The picture is, of course, up a young man's nostrils as he tinkers with the settings.]
Seth: Is this thing on?
[A hand wrestles the camera away and it focuses on Seth’s face, at a decent distance now.]
Kendra: If the red light is blinking, it’s recording. Now, keep your grubby hands away. Vanessa asked me to record.
Seth: That’s only ‘cause she thought my flight was landing late. But, I’m here early enough.
[The camera pans around the room. A woman in a bridal gown sits at the vanity and applies her makeup. She smiles in the mirror at them. An elderly woman sits on a couch and raises an eyebrow at the two siblings.]
Ruth: Sometimes, I wonder if you two will ever settle down.
Seth: As long as I never become boring enough to wear khakis like Warren.
Kendra: Seth! He’s going to see this footage later.
Seth: And I’d say it to his face.
[Laughter from the room. The bride turns to Seth and points at him mockingly with a makeup brush.]
Vanessa: Be careful or you might lose your groomsman status.
Ruth: Speaking of, why don’t you go join Warren and Dale? Tell them to be ready in thirty for the first look.
[Seth stands up and walks to the door. He points to the camera.]
Seth: Don’t record without me. The wedding needs my comic relief.
[The screen snaps to black.]
[The camera turns on, but the picture remains black.]
Kendra: Take off the lens.
[As the lens is removed, a beachfront scenery comes into view. The sky is still dark, with only hints of sunrise.]
Seth: I knew that.
Kendra: Of course. That’s why you needed me to tell you.
Seth: Does this remind you of—
Kendra: That lighthouse beach?
Seth: Yeah. Does it?
Kendra: I don’t know. I think I blacked out that portion of my memory.
Seth: Remember, that’s when Bracken exposed them two.
Kendra: Yikes. Yes.
Seth: And now they’re getting married.
[A chorus of aww’s follow]
Kendra: Shh, Vanessa’s coming.
[The camera pans until coming into focus on Vanessa, walking down the beach with her veil flowing behind her. She stops and looks around.]
Vanessa: Is Warren here yet?
Seth: He’s coming.
[The camera recedes accompanied by sounds of moving. Then, a slow zoom occurs until Vanessa takes up the entire frame.]
Kendra: There he is! Turn around, Vanessa. Close your eyes, Warren!
[The couple laughs and adjusts, with eyes closed, until they’re back-to-back.]
Seth: Okay, 3…2…1!
[Vanessa and Warren both turn around, smiles stretching their faces. Tears erupt on Warren’s face and he laughs as he wipes them away. They hold each other in a tight hug and sway back and forth. Their voices fade as the camera backs away.]
Seth [whispered]: Should we—
Kendra [whispered]: Yeah.
[The screen snaps to black.]
Day 7: Fall From Grace...
For: @ruhnweek
Main Masterlist
Ruhn week masterlist
Corpse Bride!AU
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ruhn fixed the collar of his jacket, anxiety cursed through his veins as he got the speech wrong for the tenth time in the past hour. Nothing seemed to work to keep him focused on the moment, and on the female in front of him. His mother and father were clearly disappointed in him and Lidia, his future wife that he barely knew anything about, was displeased with the whole ordeal.
He never intended to marry, especially at such a young age, barely 24 years old, but his parents decided he should marry a respectable rich lady, in order to impulsionate their social status as the new rich family of the region. Ruhn wasn’t ready but the Danaan name needed him.
Lidia was a sweet young lady, 20 years old and from the noble Cervos family, he wondered if she wanted to marry him or was doing it out of duty just like he did. She was a beautiful sight to see, her blonde hair was tied in a bun, a delicate corset wrapped around her frame. Her anxious golden eyes roamed around, landing on the angered figures of her parents.
The guests at the rehearsal ceremony groaned for the millionth time as Ruhn let the wedding band slip from his fingers, rolling around on the ground, spinning three times in its own axis to land in front of her mother’s feet, just underneath her skirts.
“I’m so sorry, just let me..” He said, lowering his body until he snatched the little thing, Lidia’s mother gasped in outrage, swatting him away from her. His mother fanned herself quicker, almost passing out with the behaviour of her son she swore she had educated well.
“What is wrong with you boy? Do you even want to get married?” The priest asked and Ruhn was quick to deny, perhaps too quick, as his bride lowered her eyes in shame. “We are done for the day, you should rest and as be good as new tomorrow.” The Priest emphasised the word tomorrow and Ruhn felt his skin tighten in embarrassment. This was going to be disastrous.
⋆˙⟡☾𖤓☽ ⟡˙⋆
As expected, his parents had scolded him until they reached their house, the ride home being excruciating under his father’s harsh gaze and the high pitched tone of his mother’s voice. He needed to be alone, so he left, his mind wandered far as he walked around town, ending up in the middle of the woods.
Owls howled in the distance, and the winds carried snowflakes around. His voice echoed through the empty space, as he practised his vows, even alone, away from everyone’s expectations he managed to get every single one of the words wrong. He groaned in frustration, walking further inside the woods.
He sat on a wood log, rubbing his face in a foolish attempt to calm himself down, reaching for the wedding band on his pocket. He saw the golden reflected by the moonlight, accompanied by the flower branch he was supposed to use on the ceremony too. Lidia deserved better than this.
Holding the branch in between his thumb and index finger, he took a deep breath, letting the flowery smell fill his mind and give the boost of confidence he needed, his family needed him and he was going to make them proud. Looking at the wedding ring, Ruhn got up, encouraged by the sudden breeze, he recited his vows.
“With this hand, I will lift your sorrows. Your cup will never be empty for I will be your wine.” The words flowed out of his mouth and a grin overtook his features. “With this candle, I will light your way in darkness.” He said, breaking a piece of wood and pretending it was a candle. “ With this ring, I ask you to be mine.” He said, placing the ring on a branch that looked exactly like a hand.
He had finally managed to get everything right, when he married Lidia tomorrow, everyone would be proud of him for doing his part well. Ruhn smiled, feeling the courage building up in his chest.
The winds around him started to howl, ravens flew above his head, making noises as their wings carried them in circles. A creaking noise sounded just above him, and he felt a shiver creeping up on his spine. Something grabbed his arm, pulling him down, his face touching the cold snow.
Ruhn felt fingers wrapped around his wrist, and he pushed himself away from the ground in despair, the branch that once was just a branch, wrapped itself around his skin in an iron grip, instead of wood, the awfully human looking hand was made of yellowish bones. Forcing him against the floor again, he fought with all his strength to get it to let go of him but to no avail, he was stuck.
Ruhn finally managed to free himself, in what felt like an eternity, and as he fell to his ass, panting with the effort, he saw that the hand was still glued to his wrist, he tried shaking it away in fear but it still didn’t let go.
The snow started to collapse, like someone was trying to get from underneath, his heart beated rapidly against his rib cage making it hard to breath, and he gasped in a mix of horror and surprise as a female emerged from the snow, dressed in a wedding gown.
Ruhn took in her appearance, the hollow cheeks, the blueish aspect of the corner of her lips and her eyes, a part of her cheek was missing and looking down, one of his arms didn’t have flesh anymore, just the bones, he could see a lot of bones and at the same time he was terrified of the sight in front of him, he was mesmerised, despite being clearly dead, the female was the most beautiful woman he had ever laid his eyes on. She was breathtaking.
Her voice was a sweet whisper, sending shivers down his body, like a phantom breeze when she looked at him and replied the question he didn’t even have an idea he had asked with an “I do!”
His lungs burned, and his legs were almost giving in as he ran away from her, but she kept going after him, no matter how fast he walked. He got lost in between the cemetery, tombstones scattered around him. Panting, he kept running, his knees failing him and he collapsed on the bridge that led him home. He turned around in a swift motion, looking for her but she was gone. Ruhn took a stabilising breath, feeling his heart wanting to jump out of his chest. His eyes widened when she appeared again, slowly approaching him.
“You may now kiss the bride.” She said, leaning against him, her boney hand cupped his cheek and the feeling was weird against his skin, but he didn’t flinch when her cold lips wrapped around his own in a searing kiss, prompting him to lean on her and close his eyes as he let her guide the kiss.
⋆˙⟡☾𖤓☽ ⟡˙⋆
“Are you okay?” Her sweet voice sounded as he blinked awake, her curious eyes scanned his frame, around her, dozens of different people stood, all of them in various stages of death. Ruhn had no idea of what was happening, he tried to run away but he was surrounded by skeletons.
“What is happening?” She smiled at him.
“Our wedding, you made the perfect vows in the woods.” She lifted her hand where the golden wedding band rested and Ruhn felt his blood run even colder in his veins.
“I don’t even know who you are, how can we be married?” One of the skeletons turned to him with what he could only describe as being a smirk, his hand cupping her chin, she closed her eyes with affection, blinking sweetly towards Ruhn.
“That's a very long story.” The skeleton spoke, his bones creaking as he did so. “Our beautiful girl over here met a very handsome man once, but he had no money! Despite her parents' objections, she fell in love with him.” Ruhn could see the sadness and hurt clouding her gaze. “He convinced her to gather some jewellery so they could sell and run away. When she arrived at the agreed location in the dead of the night, she saw a silhouette. When she opened her eyes again, she was dead, waiting for a love that would free her from this torment, our lovely corpse bride.”
Ruhn watched her, really seeing her for the first time, she was so young, and he wondered what type of monster would take a life that precious away from someone like her, he felt his heart squeezing in  his chest, pity for what was taken away from her filled him, suddenly becoming too much, so Ruhn ran away.
The underworld was nicer than he expected, if he didn’t give a deeper thought about the fact that he was walking among the dead, he could hear her calling his name in the distance, but he kept going, not wanting to see that hurt and longing in her eyes. But his efforts were in vain when he collided against someone, his hands flying to her waist to prevent her from falling.
“There you are, I've been looking for you.” She smiled at him, pulling him by the hand and making him sit with her. “Isn’t it a lovely view? It always makes me breathless, or would, if I could breathe.” She giggled and Ruhn turned towards her, facing the side of her face.
“I’m so sorry about what happened to you…” Ruhn started and those big eyes turned to him. “I wish I could help but I really need to go home.” Her eyebrows scrunched in confusion.
“This is your home now.” She pointed out and Ruhn took a deep breath.
“But I don't even know your name.” She blinked like she had suddenly remembered this fact as well.
“Well, my name is Y/N.” She then smiled at him, reaching for something under the bench. “I almost forgot..” She handed him an old dusty box. “Your wedding gift.”
Ruhn held the box, shaking it to try and see what was inside, the content of the box shook with it, and when Ruhn opened it, bones greeted him, he confusedly thanked her before the box fell to the floor, the bones moving until they assumed the form of a dog.
He knew  the collar the dog held in between his teeth, his childhood fog that his mother always hated and never allowed inside, Ruhn missed it dearly, and his heart almost burst with happiness when the dog jumped in his lap and he started to pet its head.
“Oh boy, I missed you.” He smiled at her.
“Oh you’re so pretty.” She scratched the dog’s chin.
“You should’ve seen it when it had fur.” Ruhn laughed and she followed him. “My mother didn’t like it when he jumped on my lap. But she never liked anything anyway.”
“Do you think she would’ve liked me?” She inquired and the engines in his head started to work.
“You’re lucky you don’t have to meet her.” Then an idea crossed his mind. “You know what? We should meet them, as we are married, it’s the right thing to do.”
“Let’s go then.” She said, jumping from her seat. “Where are they buried?”
“They’re not here.” Ruhn pointed to the sky.
“Oh, they’re still alive.” She sounded almost disappointed. “But there’s something we can do.” She grabbed his hand and started to lead him somewhere.
⋆˙⟡☾𖤓☽ ⟡˙⋆
Ruhn found himself in the same woods everything happened in the first place, she had taken him to an old looking skeleton, if you could really put an age to an amount of bones. She spun around, delighted to be outside once more.
“I’ve been in the darkness for so long that I almost forgot how beautiful the moonlight is.” She said, her face towards the moon as she basked in its light.
“You should wait here, while I prepare my parents for the unexpected news.” She looked at him confused but he almost sighed with relief as he saw her nodding her head in agreement.
He ran to his house, that wasn’t far from the Cervos residence, just to find it empty, with the news of his disappearance, he knew his parents we’re trying their best to ease the situation, but when he found himself at the front doors of the Cervos’s estate, hearing Lidia’s father angrily demanding his head, he had to improvise, climbing the vines that gave him access to the young lady’s room.
“Ruhn?” She asked curiously, opening the window he slowly banged on.
“Lidia, it's so good to see you.” He said, and she pulled him near the fire.
“What happened to you, you are as cold as the dead.” She held his hands, trying to get them warm.
“Lidia, I must confess that this morning I wasn't ready to get married, but I'm willing to try and be a good husband for you, as you deserve to have.” Lidia blushed and Ruhn watched as she closed her eyes, leaning in to kiss him.
He gasped in surprise as he saw Y/N climbing over the fence of her balcony, he saw how her eyes darkened when she spotted Lidia in front of him.
“Darling who is this?” She asked, and Ruhn ran to her side, poor Lidia looked at them with confusion, so lost.
“Who is she, Ruhn?” Lidia Cervos inquired back and he couldn’t even muster a response before Y/N leaned towards the smaller girl, her boney hand displaying the wedding band.
“I’m his wife.” The young lady gasped in surprise and Ruhn cleared his throat.
“Lidia, you don’t understand..” He lifted his wife’s arm. “She’s dead.” This time Y/N was the one to gasp and as Ruhn turned to look at her, sadness clouded her eyes, tears lining in her orbs as she pulled him by the arm, saying the words that would take them back to the underworld.
⋆˙⟡☾𖤓☽ ⟡˙⋆
“You lied to me.” She said, tears falling from her big eyes. “Just so you could get back to that other woman.”
“You don’t understand.” The hurt in her eyes made something stir in his guts. “You are the other woman.”
“NO!” She protested, the crying getting more hysterical. “You married me, she’s the other woman.”
“I’m so sorry..” He started walking towards her, she now had her back turned to him. “This can’t work.”
“Why not? You don’t think I'm pretty enough?” Ruhn almost scoffed at that, on the contrary.
“What? No. You are the most beautiful woman I've ever seen, we’re just too different. Well, you’re dead.” He stated.
“You should've seen it before asking me to marry you.” Ruhn ran a hand through his dark locks.
“Why can’t you understand? It was a mistake, I would never marry you.” She went completely still, her eyes wandering around his face. Y/N opened her mouth a couple of times, like she was going to say something, but decided against it, her tear welled eyes was the last thing Ruhn saw before she walked away from him. It was in that moment he knew he had fucked up.
⋆˙⟡☾𖤓☽ ⟡˙⋆
He had to apologise to her, he knew that, the thought of being the one causing her pain was a weight he didn’t want to carry, so he went looking for her, finding her discarded bouquet of flowers near the entry of the bar he had been when he first arrived.
She sat by a piano, sadly stroking the tiles in a slow melody, he approached her with care, standing behind her with the flowers hanging from his hands.
“I think you dropped this.” He started but she didn't even turn around or acknowledged him. “I’m sorry if I lied to you about my parents, the day hasn’t been easy.” Nothing, not a single word left her lips and he sighed, sitting by her side at the piano. “I understand.”
He started to play a melody too, trying to get a reaction out of her but she still refused to give in, despite looking tempted to do so, so he kept going, until she was playing with him, smiling towards him with a tenderness that warmed his heart. He admired that smile, feeling that warmth spread through his whole body.
“I’m sorry for my enthusiasm.” She shied under his attentive gaze.
“Don’t apologise, I love your enthusiasm.” He grabbed her hand, lacing their fingers together. They stayed like that for a while, looking at each other's eyes, she could see all the apologies and the regret for the words that he had said back there, and that was enough for her.
Their trance was broken as bells started to ring and the skeletons filled the bar, screaming around about a newcomer, Ruhn wondered if that was the same commotion when he arrived. Skeletons and corpses ran around excitedly, trying to make a nice welcoming for the newcomer.
Ruhn watched curiously the male that stepped inside the bar, he knew him somewhere, and when he looked closer, was the driver that worked for his family.
“Chester, it's so good to see you.” He greeted only to gasp in surprise as the male turned to him, of course he was dead. “Oh, my condolences.” What else could he say?
“Don’t worry, I never felt better.” Chester replied with a smile and Ruhn couldn’t help but laugh.
“Oh Chester,I have to go back.” Ruhn pleaded. “They must be so worried about me, how are they?”
“Well, they're wondering where’d you go.” Chester sipped on a cup of beer. “And Miss Lidia is going to get married tonight.”
“With who?” Ruhn asked more out of curiosity than anything, he hoped that it was someone that treated her nicely.
“Some lord, since you were gone, I guess they accepted anyone to not waste the cake.” Ruhn nodded, needing some time to think. Leaving his bride behind as she pleaded for him to stay.
⋆˙⟡☾𖤓☽ ⟡˙⋆
“He left without saying a word.” He heard her voice, and following the sound he found her in the kitchen talking to a trio of corpses.
“Males are complicated.” The chef of the trio patted her shoulder and she nodded her head in agreement.
“I’m sorry to interrupt, but we have a problem with your marriage.” He watched the old skeleton appear and she turned to him with a concerned expression.
“What is wrong?” Her voice sounded worried.
“Your vows are only valid till death do you part, and it already did.” She gasped and more tears filled her gaze.
“If he finds out, he will leave.” Despite not wanting to get married to Lidia, he still wanted to go back, didn’t he? “What can we do?” She inquired and something inside him twisted nervously as he waited for the answer, why did he care?
“There’s a way, but it demands a great sacrifice.” Her nose scrunched. “We would have to kill him.” Ruhn gasped, feeling dread setting in his gut, but relief was quick to sooth over him as she turned around in disbelief. “He would have to give his life up, repeat his vows on the world of the living, drinking for the wine of the times.”
“Poison.” She shook her head in denial.
“This would stop his heart and only then he would be free to give it to you.” The skeleton finished and Ruhn watched as she turned around with a determined expression.
“I would never ask this of him.” She sat with her head low, as heartbreak once again filled her, when would she find her happiness?
Ruhn watched the sad female, his heart contorting in his chest as he saw her, what did he have for him up there? A life following his father’s orders, having everything picked out for him, never having a choice or never truly loving anything. He had surprised even himself when he opened the door, making his presence known as he spoke.
“You don’t have to ask.” He crouched in front of her. “I’ll do it.” She looked him in the eyes.
“Son, if you do this you will never be able to go back, do you understand?” The skeleton asked and as love filled his heart, he replied.
“I understand.”
⋆˙⟡☾𖤓☽ ⟡˙⋆
Ruhn smiled at her as he announced that they would get married again and they all should get ready to take their party to the living world. Skeletons helped him get in a better form, escorting him to where they waited for her.
The candlelights illuminated her figure as she walked downstairs, and Ruhn couldn’t contain his expression as he watched the beautiful female he was getting married to. He grabbed her by the waist.
“You are so beautiful.” She batted her lashes at him. “Let’s get married.”
Their hoard followed to the portal that separated the living being from the dead ones, crossing that veil and finding themselves back at the town Ruhn lived in. He could hear the people screaming and running around in horror as they watched what should be dead among them.
Ruhn escorted his beautiful bride towards the church, where the priest tried to keep them away, just to be shushed by someone telling him to be silent in the house of God. Ruhn laughed a little at that, and rolled his eyes at the expression on the priest’s face.
The Elder Gutknecht, as Ruhn finally learned his name, prepared everything for them. He felt excited to complete and finally be bound to someone by love, not for power or status, but just because he wanted to be. Y/N started to walk down the aisle, and Ruhn couldn’t contain his grin as he watched her getting closer, the beautiful of them all, and his soon to be wife.
“To all those present and those who are gone, we’re here today to unite this man and this corpse.” The Elder started. “Now the vows. First the living.”
“With this hand, I will lift your sorrows. Your cup will never be empty for I will be your wine.” He grabbed the golden goblet.
“Now you.” The skeleton pointed to her and she turned fully towards Ruhn.
“With this hand, I will lift your sorrows. Your cup will never be empty for I will be..” She grabbed the bottle with the poison, the sizzling liquid falling to the goblet. Her eyes drifted to someone behind him, the lady Ruhn had visited watched them closely with a hurt expression covering her face. Y/N felt her heart shattering at the scene. She tried to focus, but all she could do was mumble the words over and over again until Ruhn interrupted her.
“I will be your wine.” He lifted the goblet to his lips but she stopped him.
“I can’t, this isn’t right.” Ruhn tried to look to where her eyes drifted but she cupped his cheek. “I was a bride and my dreams were stolen away from me, now I'm stealing someone else’s dream away from them.” She blinked the tears away. “I love you Ruhn, but you’re not mine.”
She reached her hand behind him, bringing Lidia Cervos forward, the female looking at them and slowly allowing Y/N to put intertwine their hands together, and as much as Ruhn tried to convince himself, Lidia’s hand felt wrong against his, she wasn’t who his heart beated for, the one he would die for. Ruhn was going to say something, tell Lidia the truth when someone spoke from behind him.
The male was blonde and beautiful, a cruel smirk adorning his face as he watched the scene, he had never seen him before, but by the looks of him, he knew this male was up to  no good. He crossed the church hallway swiping invisible tears away, as he walked towards the aisle, snatching Lidia away.
“I always cry at weddings.” His voice was laced with sarcasm. “You’re just forgetting that SHE’S MINE.” He kept pulling Lidia away. “And I won't go away without the money I'm owed.” Y/N watched that male closely, memories flooded her mind as she gasped.
“You!” She pointed her finger to an older version of Pollux. The male took a deep breath.
“Y/N?” He asked incredulously and Ruhn watched the exchange with worry, did they know each other?
“You!” She repeated angrily.
“But I left you…’ He couldn’t bring himself to finish but she was quick to do it for him.
“Dead!” Ruhn felt anger rising in his chest, he was the monster that took that beautiful life away, who took her happiness and her money. He wasn’t going to let him get away with it again.
“She’s having hallucinations.” Pollux accused and started to drag Lidia away from the church, pulling a sword from the wall to prevent her from running away. “I’m sorry to interrupt but we need to go.”
“Let her go.” Ruhn demanded and started to walk towards them.
One of the skeletons threw him a knife instead, and as Pollux shoved Lidia away, the two started to fight, with a smaller blade, Ruhn was completely disadvantaged and there was also the fact that Pollux was really skilled with the sword. Ruhn kept trying to defend himself, none of the dead could interfere as much as they wanted to, so it was him and him alone responsible for stopping the vile male.
Ruhn ended up falling on the stairs, his knife away from his reach and Pollux ready to make the final blow to him, except that it never came, his sword piercing the exposed ribcage of Y/N. Her angry expression as she pulled the sword out and pointed at him demanding he to be gone did nothing to scare the male, he just laughed, circling her and leaning against the table.
“Tell me, does the heart still  break after it stops beating?” He grabbed the goblet, lifting it in the air. “Let’s make a toast to Y/N, always the bridesmaid,  never the bride.” He emptied the cup and the skeletons watched him attentively, wanting to protect their beautiful bride. Pollux felt his heart twisting as the poison worked as fast as it should, allowing the dead to drag him back to the underworld.
Y/N watched as Lidia clung to Ruhn, feeling her heart break just one more time before she went back to where she belonged. Ruhn watched her, this wasn’t over yet.
“Wait.” He asked and she turned to him. “Lidia, you are a great woman and I’m sure any man would be lucky to have you as their wife, but my heart belongs to her.” His eyes searched for hers, and he could see her loved filled gaze focused on him. “You were wrong, I’m yours and you’re mine.” He pulled her by the waist, closing the distance between them and capturing her in a searing kiss.
Ruhn turned towards the table, emptying the rest of the bottle and both Y/N and Lidia watched as he died and came back to life, to be with the love of his life.
“I hope you find happiness, Lidia. And if you ever need it, I’m sure my parents would love to help you.” The female hugged him.
“Be happy, Ruhn.” With a hand extended for his wife, he pulled her to his side by the waist.
“I will be.”
is Rock/Romeo different in the japanese ds cute?
(as someone who isn’t fluent) yea in jp romeo sounds like less of a bastard and more like idk. idiot airhead spacey naive kid? the jp version also takes him much more seriously as a love interest option which stresses me out a bit but it’s also cute
for the english version of DS and cute natsume sometimes added some arrogant douchey scum bastard zaniness to romeo’s lines to idk i guess try and match rock? (who has different speech habits / “role speech” in JP compared to romeo) and of course natsume also just handled a lot of DS lines Weirdly or Not at all
for example
the wedding vow
JP:「もう一生離さないよ♡ 」| “For the rest of my life, I’ll never let go!♡” (cute)
Natume EN: “I’ll never leave you. Heh heh.” (troubling)
the divorce fakeout event you get if you neglect your husband (the entire thing)
JP: romeo thinks you hate him and he’s sad because you don’t communicate, and says goodbye.. he comes back and apologizes and admits he never wanted to leave, he just wants to stay together and you head to sleep (all’s well that ends well)
EN: romeock thinks you hate him and he says “is it my looks? my gorgeous looks can’t be fading already, can they?!” when he comes back he’s like “i know you can’t be tired of my looks already. it must just be a phase. well time for some beauty sleep” (who the fuck said you were allowed back in)
other than stuff like that, in general i’m finding a lot of events make slightly to very more sense in japanese because often it feels like each line of dialogue was either translated too literally into english or they didn’t have context, so that also applies to romeo’s heart and random events especially later events / events after marriage / rival marriage
the entire yellow heart event didn’t make proper sense to me in english compared to japanese but one small silly example from it where (probably) no context translation made the scene 10x funnier is when he has his dramatic confession
in JP he realizes he may have hurt you by joking around and making up stories to hide his feelings and apologizes profusely. protag shakes her head no with a heart over it to be like “it’s okay <3”
in EN he asks “Can you forgive me…?” and protag does the same gesture. like “NO <3”
also neither here nor there but his relationship with Louis feels a lot more familial in japanese. in english i wanted to kick him out the window during the child discipline event. in JP it’s more silly… (i still want to kick him out the window but more affectionately…) she overall sounds a lot more idk timid in EN but in JP she’s rougher and teases and scolds him a bunch (good👍). she and her two NEET cats children are a very cute family imo
overall i find natume’s odd additions to the game incredibly funny and enhance the experience in their own way (by making it worse) and i enjoy the more bastardly creature but i also think the more serious and soft romeo is sweet. he still has a lot of “what is wrong with his brain” moments in both en and jp he’s just more douchey in english
harin’s masterlist
Tumblr media
Harin woke up to the sounds of Dongwook’s muttered speech. She pushed the blankets off her shoulders, seeing him sitting on one of the chairs in front of the mounted TV and fireplace.
“Lee Dongwook,” she called out, drawing his attention as she pushed herself up against the headboard, “don’t tell me you’re just now writing your vows,” she teased, hoping to ease the tension in her husband-to-be’s shoulders. Something she was successful in, watching as his shoulders shook with laughter.
“Yah, I’m not writing my vows,” he told her, waving the piece of paper in his hand. Harin cocked her eyebrow at him in response. “I’m going over it, making sure it’s perfect.”
“Baby, whatever you say, I will want to listen.” Getting out of bed, she padded over to her fiancé, sitting in his lap. “We’re getting married today,” she voiced, framing his face with her hands. “That in and of itself is exciting. You don’t have to write some complicated vow, I already told you this.”
“I want to, though,” he said. “I only get one chance to marry you, I want my vows to be…”
“Perfect?” She guessed, chuckling. “What do you have so far?”
He scoffed, rolling his eyes. “I’m not showing you my vows. You’ll just have to wait until later, Mrs Jang.”
“Miss Jang,” she corrected, removing her hands from his face. “You don’t get to call me Mrs until later.”
“And before I can call you Mrs, I need to make sure my vows are amazing.”
Rolling her eyes endearingly, she chuckled. “Baby. We are getting married today. If you stress yourself out about these vows, you’re not going to enjoy the wedding. Besides we’re only getting at, like, two pm. You have time to fix it,” she pointed out.
Dongwook looked at her. “How are you so calm right now?”
She shrugged. “I’m oddly calm when I need to be anxious and oddly anxious when I need to be calm.”
“I also want to be calm right now,” he complained. “I’m panicking so much. It’s worse than when I did my first acting job.”
“Aigo, Dongwook.” She pouted at her fiancé. “Eotteohge? Are you even going to make it down the aisle?”
He chuckled. “You’re not really helping.”
“How should I help?” She asked, settling against his chest.
He smiled as he thought of something. “You can sing for me,” he said, smiling bigger when Harin groaned. “What? You don’t want to?”
“You know my voice sucks in the morning. I just woke up.”
“I like your voice. All the time. And it would really help me calm down,” he bargained.
She sighed. “What song?”
“You’re really going to sing? You never agree to it.”
“Say the song before I change my mind.”
Dongwook chuckled. “Okay, okay. Um…” He looked around the room as he thought. “Ah! That one.” He started humming A Sunday Kind of Love. “The one you always sing.”
Harin smiled softly before she started singing for Dongwook. He brushed her hair out of her face as he listened, admiring her voice.
“And you say your voice sounds bad in the morning,” he said with a scoff when she finished singing a verse of the song.
She playfully rolled her eyes. “Whatever.” She stood up, stretching her body out. “I have to go wash,” she said, “and you need to make breakfast for the dogs.”
Dongwook sighed, also standing up. “Right.” He gathered all of his papers and went to put them on his bedside table. He walked to where Harin was standing in front of the TV. “Good morning.”
“Good morning,” she replied. She leaned forward to kiss him, but was deterred by him taking a step back. “What is going on?”
“Our mothers have asked that we don’t kiss until the ceremony,” he told her, making sure to maintain distance between them.
Harin gaped at her fiance. “Why?”
“They read an article–”
“Fucking hell.”
“–and couples said that when they didn’t kiss until their ceremony, it felt more special.”
She sighed. “Okay,” she said, turning around to go to the bathroom.
“Where are you going?”
Harin looked at him over her shoulder. “I’m going to wash.”
Dongwook’s mouth floundered open and shut a few times. “Just like that? You’re not going to fight me on it?”
“No.” She walked around the bed, going behind the wall facing the bed. The wall facing the bed allowed the bathroom to be hidden with single access from the right, serving as support for the long, stone trough sink and the mirror, located at the back.
“The one time she chooses to listen to her mom,” he mumbled as he left the room to give their dogs breakfast.
Tumblr media
“What’s on your agenda for today?” Harin asked, taking a bite of the breakfast Dongwook made for the two of them.
They had both washed and were downstairs eating in their informal dining area in their kitchen, their dogs resting on the bumped-out window seat to the right of them.
Dongwook hummed as he took a sip of his coffee. “I’m going to take the dogs to a care centre, get my hair trimmed, go with our dads to pick up the rings and finish working on my vows,” he said, Harin nodding as she listened. “Then I’m going to the venue and getting my hair styled there after I put on my suit. What are you doing?”
“Going to a spa with our mothers, doing my nails, going on a forced walk, going to the venue, changing into my dress, getting my hair and makeup done and then waiting for everyone to arrive,” she listed off, finishing with a sigh.
“We’re both busy,” he commented.
Within ten minutes of them finishing their food and moving to the family room off the side of the kitchen to wait for their parents, they heard a knock on the door. Their dogs — Cucumber and Poppins — rushed to the door alongside the couple.
“Hi,” Harin greeted when Dongwook had opened the double door, watching as Poppins attempted to jump on her mom. She bent down to pick up the dog, stepping to the side to let everyone in.
“Your house is so beautiful!” Dongwook’s mom, Doosoon, complimented as her son closed the door. They were the first guests Harin and Dongwook had after moving into their house.
The couple led their parents out of their parents, past the first floor landing and into the formal living room. Harin went to pour everyone a glass of water, giving Poppins to her mom before she left, as Dongwook made small talk with everyone. When she returned, she put the tray with the glasses on the coffee table, sitting down next to her fiancé.
“How are you feeling? Are you nervous?” Harin’s dad, Siwoo, asked.
“I’m more excited than nervous,” Harin answered, “but oppa’s nervous.”
Dongwook, who had just picked up Cucumber to place her on his lap, looked up at Harin. “I’m not nervous.”
“Yah, it’s okay if you’re nervous,” his dad, comforted, waving his hand dismissively. “I was also nervous on my wedding day — we both were. Just have fun.”
“I’m not nervous.”
“Your house is so beautiful!” Doosoon complimented again, looking at the building they were sitting in. “Who built it?”
“I’m not sure who exactly built it,” Harin began to answer, “but it was designed by a Spanish architect, that’s why it has a Mediterranean feel to it. He designed three houses like this in Korea — we happened to get the one in Seoul — and he apparently spent a long time looking for plots of land to build the houses because he wanted to have space for the backyard.”
“Is the backyard big?”
“Yes, it is.”
“Wow,” she softly exclaimed.
“Eomeoni, do you want a tour of the house?” Dongwook asked.
“I was wondering how long it would take for you to offer,” she joked, causing everyone to chuckle.
The couple proceeded to give their parents a tour of the house. When they got to the backyard, they all exclaimed at just how big it was, Dooson in particular — “I never knew there was a place in Seoul with this much space,” she had said. The exclamations continued when they went upstairs to see all four of the bedrooms. After talking about the future, possible children to fill out all of the rooms — and causing Dongwook and Harin to get shy — they all returned to the family room.
“Should we get off now?” Siwoo asked.
Dongwook’s dad nodded. “Yes, we should.”
The group of people broke into two groups — women and men — so that they could each embark on their different errands. The men took the dogs with them to leave a care centre for the day. The wedding venue, unfortunately, had a strict ‘no pets’ policy.
“It’s very warm today,” Eunkyung, Harin’s mom, commented as she got into the passenger seat of Harin’s car.
Doosoon nodded, entering the backseat. “They chose a good day to get married.” She watched as their children locked the door to the front door. Dongwook stood to the right of Harin, using his hand to block the sun for her. They laughed about something before Dongwook kissed Harin’s cheek, the two of them going to their respective cars.
“Okay, we can go now,” Dongwook said as he started his car.
The couple embarked on their separate errands to prepare for their big day. By half-past eleven, they were both at the wedding venue, changing into their outfits and getting their hair and makeup done. Harin finished first and walked from the dressing room to the bridal waiting room.
When she walked in, Eunkyung gasped in awe as she looked at her daughter. Her hair and makeup had been finished and she was wearing her dress. “Is this why they call you the Nation’s Goddess?”
Harin shook her head endearingly. “I’m going to assume you like it?”
“So much.” Her mother stepped towards her, cupping her cheeks. “You look stunning, darling.”
“Thank you.”
Doosoon entered the room after being in the main hall to check on the decorations. “Almost everything is set up and re– Omo!” She exclaimed, noticing Harin in her dress as Eunkyung stepped back from her daughter. “You’re so pretty!”
Harin smiled in response. “Thank you.”
“Dongwook is a lucky man,” she complimented. “Tell me if he ever does anything to annoy you, okay?”
“Okay, I will.” She promised. Brushing her hands down her dress, she sighed in awe. “I love this dress.”
“You made a really good choice,” Eunkyung said.
Meanwhile, in Dongwook’s dressing room, he had finished putting on his suit.
“Adeul, are you ready?” His dad asked.
Dongwook opened the door, exiting the changing booth in his room. “I’m done.”
Siwoo groaned in approval, “That’s a very nice suit!”
“Thank you, jangeuneoreun,” he said, using the formal honorific for father-in-law.
“Ay, that’s too formal–” Siwoo waved his hand dismissively– “just call me jangin,” he suggested.
Dongwook nodded. “Okay.” He toyed with the lapels on his suit. “I’m so nervous,” he breathed out.
His dad stepped forward, patting his shoulder. “It’s okay to be nervous. It’s good to be nervous.
“I’m a wreck. And I have to go over my vows.”
“No, you don’t,” Siwoo disagreed. “What you showed us earlier is more than fine.”
“But you know Harin,” he argued softly, reaching for his vows that were on one of the coffee tables. “She’s going to write something so exceptional. I should at least make mine half as good.”
“She’s a songwriter, you’re not,” his dad deadpanned, Dongwook flashing him an unimpressed look.
Siwoo nodded in agreement. “Harin’s been writing poetically for most of her life. She’s practised and honed her craft. It’s obvious that this will come naturally to her. Don’t stress about it too much,” he told Dongwook.
Dongwook nodded, looking down at the vows in his hand. “Okay… Okay. I’m good. I–I’m good.” He placed the vows back on the table.
“Your shoulders look awfully tense, though,” Harin commented, standing in the doorway. She watched as the three men turned to face her, shocked to hear her voice.
Siwoo gasped softly. “You look beautiful, Harper.”
“Thanks, dad.” She walked to her father, giving him a hug. “Do you like the dress?”
“It’s totally your style. It’s stunning.”
She smiled at him before turning to her fiancé. “You look great,” she complimented him.
Dongwook, who was staring at Harin, struggled to respond, coughing up a response when his dad hit his back, “T– Uh, thank you.”
She winked at him, looking over his shoulder at his dad. “I was thinking of going with oppa to look at the hall, if that’s okay? I heard the setup was almost done.”
Dongwook’s dad nodded. “You guys can go ahead.
Harin turned to walk out of the room, not checking to see if Dongwook was following her. As she walked out of the room and into the hallway, she could hear his footsteps behind her, a smirk appearing on her face. They walked in silence to the hall, both gasping at the decor. Everything had been set up and all of the staff had already left the room.
“I told you not to doubt the potential of me and Pinterest,” she bragged softly. Most of the wedding decor had been decided by Harin — with input from Dongwook, of course — and she had created a Pinterest board to organise all of their ideas.
Dongwook walked onto the aisle, holding out a hand to Harin, who looked at him confusedly. He led her to the middle of the aisle, wrapping his arms around her. He started swaying, singing Love you thousand times softly in her ear. Harin smiled, placing her head in the junction where his neck met his shoulder.
They stayed like that, swaying softly, as Dongwook kept singing. When he had finished singing the chorus for the eighth time, he pulled back to look at Harin.
“I love you,” he said.
“I love you, too,” she replied. He leaned in to kiss her, but was stopped by Harin holding his face in her hand. “Not until the ceremony,” she reminded him, her right eyebrow quirking up.
He groaned behind her hand. “We need to limit their internet access,” he muttered in mock anger.
Harin laughed, stepping out of his hold and releasing his face. “You can’t stop them. Even if you take their phones, they’ll find a way.”
“That’s true… There’s nothing we can do. There’s nothing we can do about it, and we just have to accept it.”
Harin nodded before quickly pecking his cheek and turning around, walking away. “I’m going to my waiting room. I’ll see you later.”
Dongwook jogged to catch up with her, holding her elbow. “I didn’t tell you this yet, but you look gorgeous.”
“I could tell that’s what you thought.”
Tumblr media
The first guests — Seungheon and Yeonseok — arrived at 13:24. They were greeted by Dongwook and both sets of parents at the entrance to the floor. Their wedding was taking place on the top floor — the one that offered the most privacy.
“Ah, Dongwook-ah!” Yeonseok exclaimed upon seeing his labelmate.
“I thought this was all a prank,” Seungheon said. “I thought it was a lie.”
“As we arrived, hyung turned to me and asked, ‘Dongwook wouldn’t go to such lengths just to trick us, right?’” Yeonseok added, making everyone laugh.
“I wouldn’t go through all of this trouble just to prank you,” Dongwook assured them, waving them off.
“You mean it?” Seungheon asked, pretending to still be sceptical. “I can’t hear any voices from inside. Why are we the only ones here?”
“Because you arrived first!” He softly exclaimed, laughing.
”So this isn’t fake?”
“It’s not, it’s not. Harinnie will tell you.”
“If Harin’s here, then it’s not fake,” Yeonseok said. “She wouldn’t spend this much money on a prank.”
“That’s true,” Seungheon agreed. “Okay, I believe you.”
The two men walked off, following the hallway, until they reached Harin’s bridal room. They found the actress sitting on the couch, doing something on her phone.
“If you could just confirm for us,” Seungheon began as he and Yeonseok walked in — startling Harin, who looked up from her phone, “that this isn’t a prank, we’d appreciate it.”
Harin stood up to greet them. “Why would I spend this much money on a prank?”
Yeonseok snapped his fingers. “That’s what I said!”
The three continued to talk for a short while before having the photographer take their photo. The two actors walked into the wedding hall shortly after, and Harin went back to being busy on her phone.
A few minutes had passed before Harin heard footsteps coming in her direction.
“Harin!” Taeyeon squealed. She entered the waiting room, holding flowers in her hands. Behind her were Sunny and Seohyun.
“My sweeties!” She responded, putting her phone down and standing up.
Seohyun rushed to Harin’s side, giving her a tight hug. “Unnie, you look so pretty!” She complimented.
“Really? That’s a relief, I spent a lot of money on my look,” she joked.
Taeyeon gave her member the flowers she brought. “Our Visual Goddess always looks good,” she said.
“Are we at the age to be getting married already?” Sunny wondered aloud after hugging Harin. “Didn’t we debut yesterday?”
“Unnie, time flies when you have fun,” Seohyun pointed out.
Taeyeon nodded. “That’s right.”
“Where are the other unnies?” Seohyun asked, taking her phone out of her bag.
At that moment, Sooyoung peeked her head around the curtain of the waiting room. “I’m here,” she announced, holding a gift bag in her hand.
Tiffany pushed past her member. “Get out of the way, oh my god.” She squealed when she saw Harin. “Yoona, hurry up!” She called over her shoulder.
Yoona appeared a few seconds later. “You guys left me in the car,” she complained. “I hadn’t even stopped the car before you left.”
“We were in a rush,” Sooyoung told her. “It’s not everyday one of us gets married.”
“It’s the first time one of us got married,” Seohyun pointed out.
“That makes it even more special,” Tiffany added. She squealed once more, taking hold of Harin’s hands. “I love your dress!”
“And the gloves.” Taeyeon pointed at the lace garment.
“Yeoksi, our fashionista is gorgeous.”
“You know you wouldn’t have met him without me?” Sunny asked her member as she sat down on the couch.
“I know, I know,” Harin said to humour her member. To say Sunny was the only reason she met Dongwook was an exaggeration, but she knew her member was only teasing.
“I’m like Cupid,” she bragged.
“Find me someone,” Taeyeon jokingly whined. “I also want someone, cupid-nim.”
“Who wants what?” Yuri asked, walking in with Hyoyeon. She gasped when she saw her member in her wedding dress. “Gorgeous, gorgeous!” She complimented, snapping her fingers.
“Are you a goddess?” Hyoyeon asked Harin. “Why do you look so good?”
As the members talked amongst themselves, they didn’t notice the photographer taking candid pictures of them.
“Who do you think is going to cry first?” Yoona asked.
Sunny thought for a second. “Hyoyeon, Yuri, Yoona or Seohyun,” she answered.
Yoona looked at her older member in shock. “Why me?”
“Yah, you’re basically Harin’s child,” Sooyoung said.
“Your mom’s getting married,” Tiffany added, causing Yoona to roll her eyes.
Harin laughed. “If you guys don’t cry now or when I walk down the aisle, you’re most definitely going to cry when you sing,” she told them.
“I can’t argue with that,” Hyoyeon agreed. “We’re going to be like, ‘Geudaewa bareul matchumyeo geotgo,’” she sang the chorus, pretending to sniffle and cry.
“That’s right.”
“Are you ready to take your picture?” The photographer asked.
“Ah, yes,” Taeyeon answered.
The members sorted their poses for the photo out: Harin in the middle on the couch, Sunny, and Tiffany on her right and Taeyeon, and Hyoyeon on her left. Sooyoung, Yoona, Yuri and Seohyun were standing behind the couch. They all smiled for the pictures.
“And before we forget, we got you a gift,” Sooyoung told Harin. She passed Harin the gift bag she was holding as Harin sighed.
“If I open it, I’m really going to cry,” she complained, staring at the bag.
“It’s a good thing you’re a pretty crier,” Hyoyeon commented, making everyone laugh.
Harin opened the bag, seeing a book inside. She took the book outside of the bag as Taeyeon took the bag from her. The cover of the book read To Our Harin. When Harin opened the book, she was met with a picture of her and Taeyeon from their debut days. The next page had a more recent photo, and the page next to that one had a letter that Taeyeon had written to her. Harin skimmed over the book — not wanting to read it all now — and saw that that was the case for each of her members. The last three pages had an old group photo of them, a recent photo of them and a letter all of the members had written together.
“You guys…” Harin trailed off, closing the book as she teared up. “Thank you.”
“Of course!” Tiffany said, also tearing up.
A bunch of the members started sniffling as they got emotional. Seohyun pulled out tissues for each of them from her purse so they could dab the corners of their eyes.
“Unnie, you can’t cry now,” Yoona warned, “your makeup is too pretty.
“Then you shouldn’t have given me this present!” Harin complained, trying to fight her tears. “It’s your fault!”
The members pulled themselves together and finished taking their photos before entering the hall. After that, there was an influx of all the other guests. Dongwook and Harin had both agreed on not having a big wedding, wanting to keep it small and intimate, so they agreed on inviting twenty people each — twenty of their closest friends and family. Dongwook greeted the guests when they arrived and Harin greeted them before they entered the hall.
By the time there was five minutes until the wedding was scheduled to start, all of the guests had arrived and were seated. Soft piano music played as everyone talked amongst themselves. When the time for the wedding to start arrived, the music quieted down and Jaesuk went to the podium.
“Hello, everyone. I’m today’s MC, Yoo Jaesuk,” he greeted from a pulpit to the side of the altar. “We’re about to start the ceremony. On behalf of the couple and their parents, I would like to thank each and every one of you for being here today.” He moved from the podium, bowed to the guests, then moved back. “Now, the mothers of the couple will light the candles,” he announced.
Both Dongwook and Harin’s mothers entered the hall, walking down the aisle until they reached the altar. They then separated, Dongwook’s mom going left and Harin’s going right until they reached their candle lighting stations. They both picked up the lighters that were provided and lit up the candles before walking to the front of the aisle, bowing and separating to their respective sides of the hall.
“I request everyone to turn their attention to the parade of the wedding entourage. Let’s please welcome the luckiest man!”
Everyone’s heads turned as Dongwook stood at the foot of the aisle. He walked down the aisle as My only love started playing through the speakers, waving at everyone as he walked. Once he reached the altar, he bowed to Jaesuk before turning around and bowing to the guests. He then moved to stand where he was motioned to by a staff member, fidgeting with his suit as he waited for Harin.
“We just welcomed the tall and good looking groom here. Now, let’s welcome the most beautiful bride,” Jaesuk announced.
Everyone turned once more as Harin and her dad stood at the foot of the aisle. They walked down the aisle as You make me happy started playing through the speakers, Siwoo glancing at his daughter every so often. Once they reached Dongwook, who had finally stopped fidgeting, Siwoo let go of Harin’s hand and hugged his almost son-in-law. Breaking apart, he moved to sit next to his wife.
“You look pretty,” Dongwook whispered, taking Harin’s hand.
“You’ve already seen me today,” Harin whispered back as he led her to the top of the altar.
“And you continue to look pretty,” he said, gently letting go of her hand once they were in position.
“Welcome family and friends,” Jaesuk. “We are gathered here today to witness and celebrate the marriage of Lee Dongwook and Jang Harin. This is not the beginning of a new relationship but an acknowledgment of the next chapter in their lives together. Lee Dongwook and Jang Harin have spent years getting to know each other, and we now bear witness to what their relationship has become. Today, they will affirm this bond formally and publicly.”
“Lee Dongwook and Jang Harin will mark their transition as a couple not only by celebrating the love between themselves, but by also celebrating the love between all of us — including the love of their parents, siblings, extended family, and best friends. Without that love, today would be far less joyous. The bride and groom have each prepared vows that they will read now.”
Harin cleared her throat, accepting the microphone and velvet vow book that was handed to her. “The first time I said ‘I love you’, your eyes sparkled as your face broke into one of the sweetest smiles I’ve ever seen. It was in that moment that I finally understood what my dad meant when he said that true magic lives in those three words.”
Dongwook exhaled, feeling his eyes grow wet as Harin continued speaking. “My love, what I have found with you is the great love I always hoped existed. I have adored every single version of you that I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and I promise I will continue to love every single future version of you that you choose to become.”
At that point, Harin was no longer reading from the book, but instead reciting as she stared at Dongwook. “I will love you my whole life. You and no other. I will give you strength when you are weak, and give you comfort when you are sad. I will be with you until the end of time. Let’s live a happy life together, and grow old together,” she finished, handing the microphone and vow book to Dongwook.
“I should’ve gone first,” Dongwook complained, causing everyone to laugh. “If I could give you some things, it would be the ability to see yourself through my eyes. Only then will you realise just how special you are to me. I would give you my heart so that you know how much I love you, from every heartbeat there will be a melody calling your name. I would give you my ears so that you could hear your voice every morning. Even though you say that you sound the worst after just waking up, it’s when your voice is at its most gentle and soft.”
He took a deep breath. “You’re not a one-in-a-million woman, you’re a once-in-my-lifetime type of woman,” he said, causing everyone to gasp at his smooth words. “That was good, right?” He asked, everyone laughing at how cocky he sounded. “I will cherish and adore you for years and years, until you are a constant in my memory. You give being in love a whole new meaning, my heart is in your hands. I love you,” he finished, quoting lyrics from Right here forever.
The guests clapped as Dongwook handed off the vow book and the microphone.
Jaesuk exclaimed into the microphone. “Such sweet words from the couple. I didn’t know Dongwook could be that poetic, but he surprised me,” he joked. “And now, “Lee Dongwook, do you take Jang Harin as your wife? Do you promise to honour, love, cherish and protect her, forsaking all others, and holding onto her forever more?”
“I do,” Dongwook said, not breaking his eye contact with Harin.
“And do you, Jang Harin, take Lee Dongwook as your husband? Do you promise to honour, love, cherish and protect him, forsaking all others, and holding onto her forever more?”
“I do,” Harin answered.
“Lee Dongwook and Jang Harin will now exchange rings as a symbol of love and commitment to each other. Your wedding ring is a circle — a symbol of love never ending,” the officiant said as Dongwook’s father brought them their rings. “Lee Dongwook, please place the ring on Jang Harin’s left hand and repeat after me.” He said the vow, pausing every so often to let Dongwook repeat after him, repeating the process with Harin.
“To make your relationship work,” Jaesuk began, “will take love. Continue to date each other. Take time to show each other that your love and marriage grows stronger with time. It will take trust to know that in your hearts, you truly want what is best for each other. It will take dedication to stay open to one another — and to learn and grow together.”
He exhaled, looking at the couple, who only had eyes for each other. “And now by the power vested in me, it’s my honour and delight to declare you married. Go forth and live each day to the fullest. Please bow to each other.”
The couple smiled at each other before bowing. Once they had stood upright, Harin waggled her eyebrow at Dongwook.
“Now, we will have two congratulatory songs,” Jaesuk announced. “I know many people are expecting it to be Nam Changhee-ssi,” he joked, making everyone laugh, “but it is actually K.Will-ssi.”
Hyungsoo walked up onto the side of the podium from Dongwook’s side of the hall, accepting a microphone that was handed to him. “Honestly, I forgot that Dongwook and Harin were dating,” he admitted, everyone laughing at his confession, “so when I received my invitation, I was a bit confused. I immediately called Sangbum–” he pointed into the crowd at the actor– “and asked him what was going on, and he reminded me that they were in a relationship. Yeah, that’s my story. Um, I was asked by Dongwook to sing a song, so I decided to sing Love Blossom. It’s a very good song that I think fits this couple.”
He cleared his throat, waiting for the instrumental for Love Blossom to play. He started singing the song as Dongwook put his arm around Harin — who had begun to feel emotional —, the couple swaying along to the music. As Hyungsoo sang, he would occasionally point at the couple or signal to the crowd to cheer. When the song finished, he bowed to the couple.
“Have a prosperous marriage,” he said.
“Thank you,” Dongwook said as he and Harin walked to hug Hyungsoo. They returned back to their position as Jaesuk started speaking again.
“Now, there will be another congratulatory song,” he announced. “Contrary to popular belief, it is not IU who will be singing, but instead Girls’ Generation.”
Harin’s members walked onto the podium from her side of the hall, accepting the microphones that were handed to them.
“Just as I predicted, Harinnie is the first member to get married,” Yuri joked. Harin wetly chuckled along with everyone in the hall. “Now, we’re going to sing a song. Um, it may sound weird without our harmony leader–” she gestured at Harin– “but we’ll try to sound good. Um, we all wish you happiness.”
She toyed with her hair, trying to stop herself from crying. “Can we start now?” She asked her members.
“Yes!” Seohyun responded.
They started dancing as the instrumental to Kissing You played. Harin clapped her hands softly as she listened to her members sing. By the time they got to her part at the end of the bridge, most of the members were in tears.
“Live a happy life!” They shouted when they were done.
Harin and Dongwook went to the members to thank them. Tiffany hugged Harin tightly, the other members joining in before remembering that Dongwook was also there.
Jaesuk started talking again as the members went back to their seats, “Now, we’ll have a short break for lunch. Your food will be brought to you, so you don’t need to stand up and go anywhere,” he told them before walking away from the podium.
Dongwook led Harin to their table just in front of the podium on her side of the hall as there was no space on his side. They sat down as staff members entered the hall with trays of food for the guests.
Usually, in Korean weddings, the guests go to a buffet and dish up their food, but when Harin and Dongwook sent out their wedding invitations, there was a section for everybody that was RSVPing to select which foods they would like to eat, so the staff already knew what everyone wanted to eat.
“I’m so hungry,” Harin commented after her food was placed on her table. Besides her breakfast, she had been snacking on dried fruits all day so as not to get full before the ceremony. “Also, I liked your vows.”
“I worked very hard on it,” he bragged nonchalantly, eating his food. “I had a thousand first drafts.”
“You chose a good final version,” she complimented. Looking around the room, she smiled. “We just got married.”
Dongwook reached across the table for her hand. “Yes, we did.”
They continued to eat until everybody had mostly finished, then Dongwook signalled to Jaesuk to continue on with the program. After mock complaining, Jaesuk stood up to resume his MC duties.
“Okay, everyone,” he started, “now we will enter the second last section of today’s program: speeches. We’ll first hear a speech from Harin’s namdongsaeng, Hajoon!”
Hajoon walked onto the podium, touching his sister’s shoulder as he passed her. He accepted the microphone that was handed to him, pulling out his phone so he could read his speech. “Hello, everyone. I’m the brother of the bride. Um, noona… For most, if not all, of my childhood, noona was a role model to me. But since I’m a boy, I always felt this… innate protectiveness when it came to her. She proved time and time again that she didn’t need me over her shoulder doing my best to intimidate people that were twice my size,” he joked, making everyone laugh. “But, yeah, noona was a role model to me. She still is. She’s someone that continuously drops everything for me when I ask her to, even though she might have been in the middle of something important.”
He cleared his throat, feeling himself get emotional. “One of my earliest memories is when I had lost my teddy bear — I had had it since I was born — and I was crying, I was screaming… I was letting the whole neighbourhood know that I had lost my teddy bear. And noona was going over maths with appa, but she suddenly stood up from the table, walked to me, held my hand and told me to breathe deeply. She then proceeded to walk me around the house so we could search for the teddy bear together. We ended up finding it under my bed and I was immediately happy, and noona played with me for a while before going back to studying with appa. Four months ago, I found out that noona had picked out that teddy bear for me when she came to visit me in the hospital after I was born,” he revealed, causing everyone to gasp.
“Noona is someone who… I don’t know, she acts like she doesn’t care, but she actually does. When I was in culinary school and was really stressed about an essay I had to do, I would call noona and she’d answer, even if she had to be on stage in a few minutes. And I still call her all the time. I call her when I’m sick, I call her when I’m happy… Hell, I call her to find out how long chicken is good in the freezer, which is ironic because she doesn’t know how to cook and I’m a chef.” He paused as everyone laughed. “Um, noona has been there for me whenever I needed her and I’m glad she’s found someone to be there for her whenever she needs it. She doesn’t like it when people hover over her and observe her every move, but she’s going to have to get used to it because Dongwook mehhyung watches her like a hawk. I don’t really have much else to say other than I love you, noona, and I’m always wishing you the best, and I hope you stay this happy forever,” he finished, passing the microphone off to Jaesuk before walking back to his seat as everyone applauded.
On his way back, Harin stopped him, hugging him tightly as a few tears rolled down her cheeks. “I love you, Hajoon,” she told him before pulling apart and letting him go to his seat.
Jaesuk groaned, impressed at Hajoon’s speech. “That was very sweet, wasn’t it? I just found out that all of the food here was prepared by Hajoon-ssi, which adds to the sweetness, doesn’t it? Now, we’re going to have a speech by Dongwoo’s yeodongsaeng, Seonghee!”
Seonghee walked onto the podium, accepting the microphone that was handed to her. “Hello, I’m Seonghee. Most people aren’t able to say that they have the smartest, most amazing and caring sibling in the world, but oppa… I am so glad that you can say that,” she joked, pausing so everyone could laugh. “You’re really lucky,” she added. “I’m so glad that you decided to give him a second chance and proceeded to make him earn his way into deserving you. Years later, I’m making a speech at your wedding, so… I would like to apologise to oppa for telling unnie that she should make him beg for her to even look in his direction.”
Dongwook looked at Harin in shock, his wife laughing with everyone else. “Did she really say that?”
“She did, she did,” Harin confirmed through her laughter.
“Oppa, I’m truly grateful that you met and chose to spend the rest of your life with someone as incredible as Harin,” Seonghee said, looking at her brother. “I think she makes you the happiest you’ve ever been and I think she pushes you to be a better person.” She shifted her gaze to Harin. “Unnie, I didn’t know you before oppa, so I’m honestly not really sure what he does for you,” she joked, laughing along with everyone. “He could make you worse and I honestly wouldn’t know, but you seem very happy with him. I wish you well, and hope that your married life is good,” she concluded, walking off the podium and giving her microphone to Jaesuk, who was still laughing.
“Yes, that was Seonghee,” he said, trying to calm himself down. “She gave a very comedic speech that made everyone laugh. Now, we’ll take a group photo and after that, you can hang around and talk with the couple or you can go home and enjoy the rest of your day. I would like to call everyone onto the podium.”
Everyone stood up and walked to the podium. Harin and Dongwook were made to stand in the middle, the formation of everyone else was decided by having the shortest people in the front and the taller people in the back. After taking photos, Harin and Dongwook were led to the front of the aisle so they could take a kissing photo.
“Are you excited for this one?” She asked him as they were positioned for the photo.
Dongwook squeezed her hip. “I’m the most excited for this one.”
The photographer gave them the okay to kiss, so they did, the room erupting in cheers. Harin had to put her hand on Dongwook’s chest to softly push him away. He poked at her side, knowing that she was very ticklish. They joined their guests once more to thank them for coming.
“You’re really the prettiest bride,” Seoyeon complimented, hugging Harin.
Harin thanked her. “But with how pretty I am, it’s not hard to be the prettiest.”
“Ah, there you go again,” she groaned. “I have to go now, but congratulations, okay?”
Harin nodded as she watched Seoyeon walk away. A hand was placed on her shoulder and she turned around to see Minho. “Since I’m married now, does that mean we’re not dating anymore?” She asked, joking about their long-time rumoured relationship.
“It’s about time we break up,” he joked. “The relationship has been dying out.”
“Right, right. Thank you for coming.”
“Of course, noona. Kibum said to tell you that he loves your dress.”
“As he should.”
They continued to talk before he had to go to a schedule, not before taking a selfie together. Harin spent another twenty minutes talking to guests — her EDAM labelmates, Eunjung, her managers, Kwangsoo, Doyeon, Goeun and more. The last guests that hung back were her members.
“Thank you for coming, my loves,” Harin thanked them. “Especially you, Tiffany, because you’re supposed to be on hiatus at your house.”
“A little health concern could never stop me from missing your wedding!” Tiffany waved her off. “Besides you had me seated near the heater, so I was fine.”
“This was seriously the best wedding I’ve ever been to,” Yoona said.
“We’re very happy for you,” Taeyeon.
Harin smiled. “Thank you. Now I get to fetch my dogs and go home.”
Yuri groaned. “You’re such a homebody.”
“I love that place.”
“Invite me over.”
They all laughed at how eager Sooyoung sounded. They talked some more before the members left — not before taking a few selfies, dried tear streaks visible on their cheeks —, leaving Harin and Dongwook with their families. Dongwook was in a conversation with Dooson and Eunkyung, talking about the ceremony, so Harin went to Hajoon.
“I liked your speech,” she told her brother.
“Thank you, noona. I meant everything I said, you know. About you being my role model and all.”
She groaned. “Don’t get all sappy on me now that I’m married. And remember to take breaks and come visit me once in a while.”
“Of course.” He smiled at his sister. “Right now, though, I need to sleep. For a week.”
“You made everyone’s food by yourself, it’s understandable that you’re tired. Go home. It looks like appa is also tired.” She pointed at their dad, who was walking towards her with an envelope his hands.
“Did you already register your marriage?” He asked, still holding onto the envelope.
“Yes, we did it yesterday,” she told him, eyeing the envelope in his hands. “So, what’s that?”
He looked down at it as if he had forgotten he was holding it. “This is... a little something from your mother, brother and I,” he said, hading it over to Harin. “And before you protest, we wanted to give this to you. It’s your wedding day and this is the least you deserve.”
Harin smiled at her dad and brother. “Thank you.”
The newly formed family then took a few more photos with the photographer before everyone decided to go home. Harin and Dongwook changed out of their dress and suit and into the clothes they were wearing earlier, making sure to take all of the gifts they received. They then took their separate cars home — Dongwook’s parents went home with Seonghee, and Harin’s parents went home with Hajoon —, Harin went to fetch Poppins and Cucumber as Dongwook went to pick up some takeout for them.
By the time the couple had both returned home, put their things away, and plopped down on their couch, they were exhausted. It had been a busy day for the both of them and they just needed to rest. They watched their dogs run around the family room, playing together.
“How are you Mrs. Jang?” Dongwook asked.
Harin sighed contently. “I feel great, darling.”
