Note
Roy and Ed have the best mentor - mentee relationship. Discuss.
THEY DO
Roy after thirty minutes discussing a plan: Ed did you listen to a word I said
Ed: yeah totally. I especially liked the part where you suggested we go get some sandwhiches. I heartily agree
Roy: *internal screaming*

thinking how Dick always finds ways to hang out with his brothers. but reality is that, they have grown with different schedules and locations and responsibilities. his brothers have partners now. Jason is a dad for goodness sake.
Dick finds himself often emotional. he is a man nearing his 30's, but he still often misses his younger brothers.
so Dick tries.
Dick, calls Jason, who is in Star City: Hey, Little Wing. You free this Saturday? There's a new action movie. Want to check it out?
Jason, pouts at the other end of the phone: Sorry, Dickie. I have to attend to Lian's reading playdate at her friend's house. Roy refuses to go.
Dick, feels a pang on his chest: Oh, of course, yeah. I'm glad you're there to teach Roy how to read.
Jason, laughs which makes Dick smile: Hey, lay off! But maybe we can watch another movie next month? My schedule is kinda booked this month-
Dick, doesn't mean to cut his brother off: No problem, Jay. Next time, yeah? Maybe me and Wally can visit soon.
Jason: You both should. Lian is asking for her favorite uncles. Please don't tell Tim and Conner I told you that.
Dick, laughs: I'll see you soon, Little Wing. Miss you. Say "hi" to Lian for me. And "fuck you" to Roy for me.
Jason, chuckles which makes Dick smile again: You got it, Goldie. See ya!
Dick keeps trying.
Dick knocks on the door of Tim's room and cherishes this moment, because Tim is barely at the Manor. Well, none of them mostly are at the Manor for years now. He enters when Tim says "come in".
Dick: Timmy!! Want to try this new coffee-
he closes his mouth when he sees Tim in front of the mirror, wearing a suit and fixing a tie.
Dick, frowns: Oh, you leaving already?
Tim bites his lip as he concentrates to fixing the tie. Dick chuckles and approaches Tim to do it for him.
Tim: Yes, going to Metropolis for a business meeting. Then off to New York after, booked that hotel for me and Kon.
Tim gestures to the packed bag on the floor.
Dick, feels a pang on his chest: Oh, right right. I almost forgot.
he backs up and smiles at his brother.
Dick: Well, looks like you're ready to go. You look handsome, Baby Bird.
Tim, smiles: Thank you, Dick.
he gives Dick a quick hug and Dick wishes it was longer.
Tim: See you next week, Dick!
Dick: Have fun! See you, Timmy!
before Tim exists his room, he turns around.
Tim: You were saying something a while ago? Sorry, I didn't catch it.
Dick: It's nothing.
Tim: You better tell me when I come back. Bye, Dick!
Dick, says to the empty room: Bye...
and Dick keeps trying.
Dick is barely with Damian during patrols anymore, so he's glad his brother called for back up, since Bruce was in another planet with the Justice League. Damian has grown so much, he's been using new suits, because he has outgrown a few of the older ones.
Nightwing: Hey, Robin. Want to catch some Big Belly burgers after we freshen up?
Robin: I think I'll have to pass, Nightwing. Superboy is picking me up in a few.
Nightwing, feels a pang on his chest: Right, right. He better not drop you.
Robin, snorts, but he smiles so Nightwing smiles also: He would never.
before Nightwing leaves Robin on the rooftop, he leans down to kiss the top of his head. it hits him that very long ago, he acted as his father figure when Batman was gone.
Nightwing: Take care, okay? Love you.
Nightwing thought he would not get a response, but as soon as he turns around to head for home, he hears Robin.
Robin: Love you, Akhi.
Dick has come to accept that his brothers are grown up now. that maybe he wasn't part of their lives anymore, he could honestly cry-
so when the door opens of their house, he expects to see Wally, bringing flowers and food like usual, but he sees his brothers instead. Jason has a box on his hand, which happens to be a copy of the movie they were supposed to watch. Tim has a bag of coffee from the new cafe place. Damian has a bag from Big Belly Burger. and if there tears on his eyes when they hang out that night, at least he's got his brothers to cuddle with on the couch.

Dani A(Clone)
**An Arctic Siren Aside**
***Thank y'all for 200 followers!! I look forward to getting to know y'all!***
Oliver Queen, the Green Arrow of Star City, was not easy to startle. He went through too much training, too much pain to not be on the alert all the time. Letting out a breath, he shot his arrow, hitting his far away target with an ease that he was familiar with after so many years.
“Wow, Mister, you sure have good aim!”
Oliver Queen, when startled, screamed like a goat. He spun, looking for an enemy, but instead was met with the curious face of a young girl sitting on the ground behind him, leaning her chin on her fist.
Oliver took a moment to recollect himself.
“Hello, young miss. Can I help you?”
The girl tilted her head.
“I’m looking for my brother. Are you a hero?”
Nodding, Oliver pointed to his bow with the hand not holding it.
“I’m the Green Arrow.”
She didn’t seem impressed.
“Tell me more about your brother? Is he older? Younger? What’s his name?”
“Stranger danger, what’s your name?”
Oliver paused.
“Green Arrow.”
“His name’s John, in that case. John Jacob Jingleheimer Smith.”
“John?”
“His name is my name too.”
By the glint in the girl’s eyes, Oliver was being pranked somehow and neither child was named John. He tried a different approach.
“What does your brother look like?”
“Like me, but a boy.”
Helpful. He knew he was supposed to be kind and gentle with civilian children, but Oliver almost wanted to pick this girl up and shake her until she had useful information.
There was a crunch on the rooftop behind him, and by the sounds it was Arsenal coming to find out what was taking him so long.
“Oh wow, you’re cool!”
The girl bounced up and darted around Oliver to circle Roy, looking him up and down.
“Now there’s a hero! Baseball cap? Clean shaven? Be still my beating heart!”
Oliver’s only solace was that Roy looked about as off-put as he himself was.
“Can I be a hero? My brother’s a hero, we’d find each other that way!”
Roy smiled at the kid.
“Well, it takes a lot to be a hero, you know? What would your hero name be?”
“Phantom, like my brother. And it’s fine! I’ve got powers, see?”
The girl lifted off the ground, hovering, and crossed her legs underneath her to sit in the air.
“I can do some other stuff too, but the flight is the coolest.”
Oliver looked at Roy, who seemed to be seriously thinking about the girl’s proposition.
“Arsenal, you can’t- What about her parents?”
The girl’s float drooped a little.
“They’re… gone. It’s just me and my brother, and I don’t know where he is. I’m from the Infinite Realms, and I can’t get back without him.”
The Infinite Realms sounded like Justice League Dark shit.
“Let me introduce you to the Teen Titans, then. Phantom, right?”
Phantom lit up, and Oliver stared in shock at his teammate.
Batman would be so pissed at him.
~~~
Dick Grayson smiled at the girl in front of him. Damian had convinced him to come meet her, claiming that she was an ‘integral part of the team’, only a few weeks into her tenure with the Titans.
Phantom smiled back, too sharp teeth on display.
“Hello, Phantom. I’m Nightwing, Robin’s brother. How are you today?”
“Stellar, thanks!” She did a little twirl midair. “How are you, Mister Nightwing sir?”
“I’m doing well. I heard that you didn’t allow for a DNA sample? It would make life in the tower much easier if we had your biometrics.”
She scowled, suddenly dropping to the ground and crossing her arms. She was short, for a sixteen-year-old, but Dick was still a little thrown off by the ferocious look on her face.
“Don’t you Gotham folks know when no means no? Consent is sexy and you are not. I’ve met heroes with better etiquette than any of you.”
He held his hands up in a gesture of peace.
“I won’t force you. Who’s your favorite hero?”
Immediately, as if a switch had been flipped, Phantom was up in the air again, grinning like a loon.
“Phantom Prime, of course! My brother is the strongest person I know.”
Kid Flash looked up from where he’d been assembling a puzzle.
“You met Superman the other day, though?”
Phantom scoffed.
“My brother could kick his ass. Ancients, I'd kick his ass if you guys would let me. He deserves an ass-kicking.”
“Why?”
Dick would admit he was just as confused as Kid Flash.
“Vibes.”
“Vibes? What kind of vibes?”
“Fruitloop vibes.”
“That doesn’t make much sense, Phantom.”
“Sure it does! Hey, Superboy!”
~~~
Kon-el startled at being caught listening in to the conversation. He turned to address Phantom from the tower kitchen.
“What’s up?”
“Is Superman’s secret identity rich?”
“Uh, no?”
“Does he have a lair?”
“Kinda?”
“How is he about clones?”
Kon must have made a face, because Phantom pointed at him.
“Ah-ha! Those vibes! Clone hater vibes.”
Stepping out of the kitchen, Kon tried to downplay the issue.
“I mean, he’s gotten better, but…”
“Nope! He’s still an asshole and deserves an ass-kicking.”
Nightwing held up a hand like a kid in a schoolroom.
“You have an opinion about clones?”
Phantom nodded decisively.
“My brother says that clones didn’t ask to be made, just like any other kid. It’s not their fault, it’s the fault of their creator. He says that the sins of the father should not be visited on the sons.”
Kon stepped closer, curious.
“But. Isn’t it a violation? If someone makes a clone without the donor’s knowledge?”
Phantom looked over at him with big, sad eyes.
“My sister says that’s between the donor and the creator. No kid should be painted as the one in the wrong when they were a victim, too.”
Nightwing spoke up again, sounding a little out of his depth.
“You deal with a lot of clones?”
She grinned, and Kon could tell there was a secret behind the twinkle in her eyes.
“One or two.”
~~~
Dani heard a knock on the frame of her open door and turned to greet her visitor. It was getting late- she was pretty surprised that anyone was still awake.
“Hey Superboy! How can I help?”
“Would you-‘ he looked sheepish. ‘Would you really beat up Superman for me?”
She cracked her knuckles. Someone had said that Kon-el was a clone, but she hadn’t really expected him to admit to it. They weren’t even properly teammates- he was part of Young Justice, not Teen Titans.
“I’d beat up anybody to protect the honor of clone-kind, Superboy.”
“Why?”
Making a split second decision, Dani leaned in close.
“Can you keep a secret, Kon-el?”
“Yeah?”
“You’d better. Us clones have to stick together, amiright?”
Superboy looked at her, stunned, and she winked.
“Just don’t tell the bats. Batman has both rich and secret lair vibes.”
Pairing: Stewy Hosseini x f (Roy) reader
Word count: 7.3K
Chapter/content warning: 18+ MINORS DNI, established/secret relationship, smut, fingering, P in V intercourse, some fluff, soft but also kind of dom-ish Stewy? Vague-ish mentions of canonical childhood abuse/trauma, and toxic family dynamics, Logan makes a cameo at the start (deserves its own warning), Logan's death and grief mentioned also Roman being a bit of a douche. I think that's it?
(Reader is technically a Roy because that's how the plot/idea worked but I avoided physical descriptions other than reader having AFAB physical characteristics. You're more than welcome to canon this reader as being adopted or half-siblings with the other Roys. I try to avoid giving physical characteristics and am tempted to continue to code all my readers as readers of colour out of spite due to the lack of intersectionality in fics. My reader in A Cinematic Lover has no physical characteristics other than being chronically ill but is Desi coded.)
Author's Note: I didn't proofread all of it, whoops. This is also my first time writing Stewy and I'm not too sure how I feel about this fic. I don't feel super confident in saying that "I captured his voice" etc. But I adore Stewy Hosseini and Arian Moayed and we need more Stewy fics. Please let me know your thoughts! I'd really appreciate the feedback :)
Like being in the Roy family, being the youngest in the clan had its perks and downfalls. You’d been able to get away most of your life with your father’s wrath directed towards your older siblings but at a certain point when they’d reached adulthood before you and it was quickly redirected towards you. You and your older brother Connor were the only ones to stay out of the family business, Connor was technically more involved than you which said a lot to anyone familiar with the family’s affairs.
Despite being the youngest it would be fair to say you were the most emotionally mature of your siblings (although you could easily admit that’s a very low bar) and the most well-adjusted (again, another relatively low bar). You were a practising clinical psychologist who had of course undergone a bunch of therapy yourself for your childhood trauma. You’d wrapped up a session and were walking a patient out before heading back into your office for your office lunch date when you were interrupted by a booming presence.
“Dad?” You immediately questioned. “What are you doing? You shouldn’t be here-”
“I thought I’d stop by. See the new office-”
“I’ve had this office for 3 years.” You interjected.
Logan quirked an eyebrow at that, he seemed almost amused at your assertive call out. You had been a louder child like Roman but unlike your brother, you became quieter as a teenager. You knew your father had assumed that was because you didn’t have whatever “deficiency” he believed Roman had and that you’d grown out of it. The reality was, that it was a trauma response and you’d learnt that life was easier with him if you were quiet and made your presence as sparse as possible.
He’d always found playing his games with you particularly interesting due to this, you weren’t as quiet now as you were as a teenager and you weren’t as loud as you were as a child, somewhere in the middle. You could slink off at the few family gatherings you intended to not be questioned or dragged into shop talk. But you still had a known presence and you were the only one of his children who could somewhat confidently cut him off and respond to him with what he’d deem as some sense of calmness. You weren’t as pliant to him as your siblings which made his mind games all the more intriguing to him.
“Right. Well, it’s a nice enough place.”
“Thanks.” You bit your lip as you waited for your father to continue, he didn’t show up for no reason.
You were trying to project a calm facade you were starting to worry for a myriad of reasons. With what was going on with your family this wouldn’t be any pure coincidence. You weren’t the most involved in the family business but you were well aware and received updates from Kendall. But there was also concern over the potential sighting of your lunchtime visitor.
“Well dear, I need you to do something for me.” You tilted your head and your brow furrowed at his words.
“Since when do you need favours? Specifically favours from clinical psychologists?” You questioned.
“It’s to do with your siblings.” Logan spoke flatly as he then sat himself down on one of the armchairs in your waiting room. He was mildly irritated that you hadn’t invited him into your office and that you’d kept that room off limits for him, blocking the doorway to it.
You scoffed at his words and rolled your eyes, one thing was for sure, whatever this was, it wasn’t good.
“Continue.”
Logan’s eyes narrowed at you slightly as he watched you as if it was the first time he was seeing you. He was used to you being uninterested and not the way that Shiv tried to play everything cool with Logan. You were genuinely uninterested, your eyes looked cold.
You had a colder approach with your father in comparison to your siblings, it was healthier and the easiest for you to maintain without being sucked in like they were. It wasn’t a big surprise to anyone that you weren’t impressed with the confrontations that happened in your presence, your siblings had weird concepts and responses of support. But there were the built-in responses as you’d gotten older, Kendall defended and you comforted.
Logan hadn’t always given you a great deal of attention in those moments but he was familiar with your mannerisms as he’d call them now. But today you seemed annoyed, this wasn’t an emotion that Logan felt like he’d seen from his youngest in almost a lifetime. He  found it to almost be the most interesting he’d ever found you, he mused that you must know or be hiding something.
“Well, you grew up with Kendall, Roman and Siobhan. You understandably know them well and you have a unique skillset with your area of expertise.” He paused for a moment watching your face as he said that before continuing.
“And?”
“You would’ve made observations of their behaviours over the years. Symptoms-behaviours- whatever the fuck you want to call it. You have the power to diagnose.” You looked at him and the cooler facade you normally actively projected with him was starting to fade into one of horror. “I’d like you to write a piece on that, about your siblings. Their credibility, illnesses. A media circuit perhaps as well. You’re a credible and telling source.”
You stared at your father in silence, you didn’t know what to say to him. This was awful, even for him.
“So?” He broke the silence, his eyes were deadly serious, and his lips were in a small but twisted smirk.
“No. No! Just no…That’s absolutely fucked up. No.” You looked around starting to think about how messed up that your father hadn’t just come up with this idea but that he was willing to do it to his children, your older siblings and drag you into this. “No, and if I did that who would then get the chance to write the think piece on you?” You asked sardonically rubbing your brow.
“Well, I’m sure Shiv could whip up a sequel to her letter on Kendall.” He bit back almost nonchalantly.
“I shouldn’t be surprised but I just can’t get over the fact that you’d do this, that you’d ask me to do this dad. What you did to Kendall after that Board vote, was sick… And again? To all of them?” You were starting to feel nauseous and weaker around him.
“Are you talking to Kendall?” He asked in a cold tone.
“He’s my brother.” You raised an eyebrow at him.
“And I’m your father.”
“Unfortunately.” You looked into his eyes and bit your cheek.
He scoffed at that. He’d come in relatively calm, well calm for him but he was quickly becoming agitated at your lack of cooperation.
“He’s a lousy excuse for a son and a brother.”
“Kendall doesn’t interrupt my day of work for a fucked up favour.” You spat out, you weren’t shying away from his gaze even though his presence was getting too much for you. “I think you should leave Dad. I have patients and I need to eat something, I need lunch.”
“Fine. Don’t give my regards to your fucking brother.” He said as he started to get up, you just leaned against the wall.
“Hey-” Stewy’s voice crackled against the thick tension between you and your father as he waltzed into the entryway of your waiting room. He paused for a second as his gaze quickly landed on your father and you. You thought you saw a brief flicker of panic in his eyes but he quickly and efficiently plastered over it.
“And what the fuck are you doing here?” Logan directed at Stewy with a huff and an eye roll. Logan’s concern and suspicion were piqued significantly now as his disappointed gaze flicked over to you.
“Well sir Roy, your deleterious business plans and board meetings are getting a bit too traumatic, that much I now need to see Dr Roy.” Stewy immediately and confidently jumped in, his playful and pointed lie came across smoothly and convincingly. Logan scoffed at that and started to walk out.
“Don’t think about trying any of your peacock philandering with my daughter,” Logan said to Stewy as he walked past him.
“How thoughtful, safe travels sir.” Stewy laughed off Logan’s comment which just seemed to irritate him more.
“Think about it.” Logan said as he looked back at you as he was in the doorway, you just held his gaze for a moment.
“I’ll see you at the wedding.” You calmly stated, he narrowed his eyes again at you for a second and then just walked off.
**********
Stewy wasn’t a patient of yours, he fortunately never had been, that would’ve been a massive ethical violation. He was meeting you at the office for lunch, something that you two often did. It had been vaguely discussed in the past that if somebody ever saw him in your office it could be easy to dismiss it as him being a patient or wanting some kind of psychological consultation relating to work. It was never an excuse that had been needed before today and you were surprised at how quickly Stewy went into that mode and how he simply sold it.
You were sitting on the sofa in your office with your legs in Stewy’s lap, he had an arm over the back of the sofa and his other hand was gently caressing your legs as you recounted the brief visit from your father before Stewy came. Stewy was playful and a bit chaotic but he was also intelligent and he could be serious and thoughtful, which he often was for you.
“I should call Kendall before something happens.” You said looking at Stewy and he nodded, continuing his comforting, soft touches on your sprawled-out legs.
You grabbed your phone and called Kendall, the phone barely rang before it was answered.
“Yo?”
“Dad came by the office earlier today.”
“Oh? What did the old fuck want?” Kendall teased.
“He asked me to write a piece on you, Rome and Shiv. To air out everyone’s laundry, basically ‘diagnose’ you all and try to discredit your side of what’s going on. It was so fucked up Ken.” There was a pause for a moment, you heard Kendall sigh and then inhale. You made eye contact with Stewy who was silent and watching you.
You had a requited soft spot for Kendall. He was your older brother and he was a good one at that. He was fiercely defensive of all his siblings, which he seemed to prioritise over his own trauma and feelings in confrontations with your father. But as the baby of the family and not having the same tongue as your siblings, you suppose you came across as weaker, more vulnerable. You’d concluded a long time ago that this added to the soft spot that Kendall has for you. You also thought subconsciously it was also linked to the fact that you were the most patient and sympathetic sibling he had.
“What did you say?” Kendall finally asked, his voice was more serious now.
“I said no, a bazillion times. I told him it was sick and asked him to leave.”
Ken nodded, and then he remembered that you couldn’t see that.
“That’s pretty fucked up. Not surprising though I guess…”
“Are you with Rome and Shiv?” You asked.
“Uh-huh, they’re in the uh, they’re inside.” Kendall answered quickly.
“Can you tell them?”
“Yeah, sure but-”
“I’m really sorry Ken but I have another patient soon, I just wanted to tell you as soon as I could in case something happened. I didn’t want to do it over text.” You answered.
“Okay, I’ll see you at the rehearsal. Thanks as well.” His second sentence was softer.
“Yeah, of course. See you then.” You then hung up and looked at Stewy.
“Did he sound okay to you?” You asked Stewy.
“Sounded pretty okay for Ken.” Stewy responded as he moved his hand away from your legs and to hold your now phone-free hand. You just nodded and Stewy changed the subject to something else for the rest of your lunch hour which you appreciated.
******
You would say you have a complicated but good relationship with your siblings. While you had the same mother as Kendall, Shiv, and Roman, you and Connor were bonded by your outcast status regarding family affairs. You didn’t agree with a lot of the opinions that left Connor’s mouth but he was still a compassionate older brother to you. You often were iced out together at family gatherings as it was all a business opportunity for your father’s attention.
You were glad that you just had to relay your father’s request to Kendall. Roman was unpredictable and Shiv would’ve assumed that you had sold them out and this was a mind game. An opinion she’d probably make clear to everyone else and in some way to you as well.
There had always been significant sibling rivalry in the Roy household. But Shiv had always seen you as her competition in particular, you two were the only women and she lived in a man’s world always striving to prove herself out of spite and nature. Even now she still believed your kinder nature was an act to disarm. She never hid the looks of distrust in her eyes.
You were now home. You still had your apartment and stayed there occasionally but that was more to save face than anything else. Somewhere along the timeline of your relationship, you’d almost practically moved into Stewy’s apartment. The walk-in wardrobe was equally divided, and your favourite teas were in the kitchen. “It’s closer to your office” had been the justification at the time when he’d been encouraging you to stay over more.
It was surprising that you hadn’t been caught yet with that in mind, part of you would sometimes wonder if your siblings did know but they were saving it but you knew that if they did it would’ve come out to slap you in the face by now.
When you’d first met Stewy what felt like a million years ago you never would’ve expected something like this to happen. Then when this all happened and started a few years ago it was still, very unexpected. But he knew probably better than what anyone else would ever be able to comprehend what it meant to get seriously involved with a Roy, even one not involved in the family business. He and Kendall had an interesting friendship and history, with Stewy having been mostly good to your brother. But Stewy was always good to you.
As you let yourself in you kicked off your shoes lost in your thoughts but you quickly noticed Stewy wasn’t back yet. This wasn’t a surprise though, your job meant you got to work more of a typical 9-5. Something you were grateful for, it seemed like life was just one, endless business meeting and opportunity for everyone involved at Waystar.
You’d made yourself a cup of tea and were now leaning against the bench in the kitchen with it while scrolling on your phone. You had Google alerts set for all of your immediate family and Stewy, surprisingly there didn’t seem to be too much drama online today.
“Ugh, fuck!” Stewy’s voice boomed and you heard a bang.
“Shit, Stewy? Are you okay?” You quickly called out as you made your way over to the apartment's entryway.
“Yeah, just tripped over your shoes again.” Stewy responded with an amused expression as he took his shoes off and moved them along with yours out of the way.
This wasn’t the first time it had happened and Stewy knew it wouldn’t be the last.
“I’m sorry.” You said bashfully as you walked over to hug him, pressing a soft, playful kiss to his lips. “I guess, it’s a good thing you love me.” You kissed him again, teasingly nipping on his bottom lip that was in between yours.
“You’re such a brat baby.” Stewy smirked as his hand wrapped more firmly around your waist and he kissed you back.
“I thought you loved that?” You teased between kisses as each one became more heated and desperate with lust. Despite Stewy often being caught or easily roped into your family drama he was the best distraction, escape and companion from everything.
“I do.” Stewy breathed out as he continued to kiss you and was now kissing your jaw.
“And I love you…” You whimpered out as his lips started to travel down your neck. He now had you pressed against the wall.
“And what is it that you love exactly baby?” Stewy purred out as he nibbled around your pulse point. He was always such a tease.
“I love your hair-” You moaned out as you dug your fingers into his soft, gorgeous curls that were always perfect. “Your voice, eyes, those goddamn turtlenecks, your smile, your colossal vocabulary-”
“Didn’t you say it was farcical the other day?” Stewy said as he stopped kissing you and looked at you.
“Stewy!” You whined out, you couldn’t feel his lips on you any more but you could still feel him against you but it wasn’t enough. You needed him. His gorgeous dark eyes were blown out with lust but he had his signature playful, mischievous smirk painted across his face as he cruelly teased you. “You’re such a tease.”
“I thought you loved that.” He quipped back. You rolled your eyes and took the bait.
“I do, I love how much of a tease you are.” He felt your breath against his neck as you spoke and then pressed a kiss against his neck, breathing him in. He always smelt so good, despite being a bit of a natural peacock it wasn’t showy, it was more subtle but strong enough. You were certain there was sandalwood in his cologne. “I also love how you feel inside of me.” You spoke as your soft lips kissed his handsome jaw, your soft lips a burning contrast against the tickle of his perfectly trimmed beard.
“Someone’s getting laid tonight.” Stewy got out, pressing his hips against you as you continued kissing along his jaw and neck, tugging his now tousled curls.
“That was the plan after all Mr. Hosseini.” You smirked against his neck, feeling him continue to harden against you. He let out a soft, melodic moan as you sucked softly on his neck.
“How does now sound?”
“Perfect.” You left his neck to kiss him on the lips, you moaned against his mouth as his teeth clashed against yours.
One of his hands left your waist to quickly unbutton your pants. Once he’d done that, he quickly slipped a hand in, teasing you as he palmed you and then started to tease your bundle of nerves over your underwear. Your arousal had already started to dampen your underwear and it only grew with his attention. You continued to moan against him, as he gingerly traced a pattern.
“You’re already so wet and I’ve barely touched you.” Stewy teased. “So beautiful and needy.”
Stewy smirked as he felt you press into his hand more, even with the friction of your underwear, you needed more. You wanted him then and there. You kept hungrily kissing him, feeling starved. Stewy snaked a finger under your underwear and rubbed it along your clitoris for a few seconds before dipping it inside of you making you gasp.
“More, please Stewy.” You begged between kisses, panting as he chuckled.
“Such a desperate girl with a needy pussy.” Stewy whispered into your ear as he added a second finger in, he picked up the pace a bit he continued to finger you and his thumb moved to rub over your clitoris a few times. His fingers were covered in your slick and you didn’t have any interest in holding back any of your moans.
You stayed sandwiched between the wall and Stewy, just moving to press your head against his shoulder, the fabric of his blazer muffled some of your moans as he continued to finger you. You looked down and started to undo his belt and pants.
“What do you think you're doing baby?” Stewy asked in a low voice that was just making the space in between your thighs grow into an even bigger pool of dampness, you were melting against him.
“I want you.” You tilted your head up so it was still resting against his shoulder but you were now facing his neck more, you started to kiss his neck again, biting it softly and then licking it. “I want you to fuck me Stewy.”
“Beg.” Stewy breathed out as he let out a little moan as your tongue darted over his pulse point. His fingers were still entering you but not as deep as before and his thumb was painfully slowly, languidly massaging your bundle of nerves.
“Please Stewy. Fuck me, I need to feel you deep inside of me.” You nipped him softly right near his pulse point and revelled in the groan he let out at that. “Please, I’m begging you Stewy. I need you.”
“Tell me exactly what you need.” His thumb cruelly left your clitoris for a moment making you gasp out in shock but he added a third finger inside of you, getting to that soft spot that made you melt and his thumb gently returned to your clitoris after a few seconds.
“I uh, I-I need you. I need you inside of me now Stewy. I need to feel your cock inside of me.” You moaned out. “Nobody has ever and could ever fill me up the way you do. It feels so good, you make me feel so good. Pl-please Stewy. Please.” You mewled out and you couldn’t quite see his face but you knew it would have that beautiful arrogant smirk.
“I’ll fuck you, baby. I just need you to come for me first, you can do that, right? I can tell your desperate little pussy is already so close.” You nodded desperately, he wasn’t wrong. You were close to unravelling, he could tell from your breathing and how you weren’t just flooding his fingers but also clamping around him.
“I’m so close, Stew, fuck.” You moaned out, panting against his neck, it tickled him slightly. You bit your lip and moaned against his neck, he could feel the vibration of it and he loved that, that and the sound of your pleasure. You could feel it coming and gasped into his neck again as you came, Stewy could feel it and smiled as his fingering eased to a slower, gentler pace as you came down from your orgasm.
“How was that?” He smirked as he pressed a kiss to the top of your head.
“It was- it was…” You paused for a moment as your breathing started to settle, your heart was still pounding from that high though. “Good.”
“Good? Only good?” He questioned with a tone of mock hurt.
“Just shut up and fuck me now, please Stew.” You bit his neck, just feeling even more needy for him than you did before.
“I thought you liked my colossal vocabulary and voice?” He teased as he playfully grinded into you “I distinctly remember you saying so a few minutes ago.”
“You’re so mean Stewy.” You giggled softly, gently pulling on the roots of his curls.
“Was that just to get me into your pants?” Stewy paused the grinding, his tone acting as if he was hurt and that the insinuation was possibly true.
“I guess not because that obviously didn’t work very well.” You responded, leaning back against the wall. He raised an eyebrow at you and then looked down at his belt. You rolled your eyes playfully and started to undo his belt, palming him. He was completely hard but you already knew this from when he’d been grinding into you.
“Bedroom baby.” Stewy moaned out as you pulled his hard cock out and rubbed it with one hand.
“You can fuck me here, you’ve done it before.” You pouted and he just chuckled as you kept up with your ministrations.
“You said I was mean, so you’re not getting it here. You can wait the whole ten seconds it takes to walk to the bed. Our bed for me to have my way with you.” Stewy’s voice was low and firm but there was still that natural teasing tone there.
You walked briskly to the bedroom that you two shared and Stewy followed and chuckled over the eagerness of your gait. As soon as you both were in the clean room, you kissed him hungrily again. He smirked and expertly unbuttoned your blouse as you pushed his blazer off. You kicked your pants and underwear off and he quickly followed suit.
Stewy pressed you into the bed and you tugged on the turtleneck he was still wearing to bring him closer to you and then started to push it up off him.
“Do you love my turtleneck baby?” Stewy teased as you did.
“Absolutely love it.” You breathed out with a smirk.
As soon as it was off and thrown to the floor, you were kissing each other again as if you couldn’t survive without the other. You were running your hands over Stewy’s back and up his neck to the luscious locks you loved as he quickly undid your bra. You were both now naked and he continued to kiss you as his hands cupped your chest.
You moaned out as he started to caress you and pinch your nipples. His lips travelled from yours down to your jaw, your throat, he kissed your breasts and teasingly licked along your nipple for a minute as he started to rub your heat with his other hand.
“Please Stewy.” You begged out in a desperate moan as your eyes were closed in pleasure.
“Please, fuck you?” He again teases as he starts to line himself up at your entrance.
“Yes, please that.”
Stewy stopped his teasing and happily obliged after what felt like an eternity of almost edging. He pressed his head into you and you gasped as he did, gently scratching his shoulders as he did. It wasn’t long till he was bottomed out, he waited a few seconds for you to adjust before he started to slowly thrust inside of you, eliciting the most melodic moans he’d ever heard.
“You’re so beautiful and tight, I love being inside of you baby.” Stewy cooed out as his pace quickly picked up a deeper and slightly faster rhythm.
“You feel so good Stewy, so good inside of me.” You mewled out.
Your words were literal music to his ears and it wasn’t long till he was grunting out as his thrusts became deeper and harder.
It was so easy to become lost in Stewy. Especially when he was fucking you like this, having his way with you in the bed you shared. How couldn’t you be lost in him when your eyes were open he was all you could see?
His scent was dizzying as it mixed with the sweat he’d built up from snapping his hips into yours, he was all you could feel, on you and in you, his grunts, words and the filthy sounds you were making together were all you could hear. Stewy was intoxicating, overwhelming, a sensory overload in the most spectacular way.
You were pulling on his hair as you felt him hitting that perfect soft spot deep inside of you. Your bundle of nerves was already sensitive from the teasing and your earlier orgasm and you could feel the warmth of another orgasm building.
Stewy wasn’t clueless about this, he could feel you clenching around him especially as he reached that sensitive spot of yours and you were flooding him in your arousal. Other than the feeling of being buried deep inside of you, Stewy couldn’t think of anything sweeter than the noises of your moan and whimpers and the sounds of the squelches made of him thrusting into you and being met with your juices.
Stewy continued to pound into you, his thrusts were faster and needier, and he was getting close himself. He pressed some sloppy kisses to your neck that warmed your insides up even more with desire and love for him. Stewy’s lips travelled back to yours and you opened your mouth inviting him in as your tongues and teeth passionately attacked each other.
The kiss became deeper and deeper, you wrapped your legs tightly around his waist and felt him groan at that against your lips which in turn made you smirk. You two continued to kiss and he started to rub your clitoris with his thumb, you moaned into his mouth at the sweet pressure and slightly writhed under him.
“That feels so good Stew.” You panted out as the kiss broke for a second and you both panted as he continued to thrust into you while rubbing a circular pattern on your bundle of nerves getting closer to their peak.
“You feel so good. I love you.” He panted out between moans, as his eyes rolled back at the feeling of your velvety walls clenching around him.
“I love you too.” You moaned out, as your legs tightened slightly around him and you scratched his back. “I’m, so, so, so close.”
“Yeah? I can feel that baby. Oh fuck, I want you to come for me, come on my cock baby.” He encouraged as he continued. Kissing along your pulse point, fully knowing that would drive you closer to your climax.
You moaned out while scratching his back and pulling on his hair as you unravelled from your orgasm. Stewy smirked against your neck and continued to massage your sensitive bundle of nerves and thrust at the same, perfect speed as you chased your orgasm and rode out that high.
“Thank you, baby, that was so good. I want you to come, to fill me up.” You panted out as you placed a hand to cup his cheek as his hips continued to snap back into yours.
“Fuck, I’m pretty close.”
You dug your nails into his back as he felt you clench around him in the most spectacular way as you orgasmed and post that. He began to chase his own high and you knew he was close as his thrusts spread up and the pace was more sporadic than rhythmic.
After a couple more minutes of thrusts, Stewy grunted and kissed you more desperately than he had all day and finally chased his own climax and finished inside of you. Before he pulled out the kiss changed to a gentle, affectionate one and you lightly combed your hands through his hair and then ran them along his face and jaw as he kissed you like that.
Stewy kissed your forehead softly and then pulled out to go towards the ensuite to get a washcloth to clean up the mess you had made together. He was so firm but gentle with you.
After that, he laid in bed again on his back, you were cuddled into his side, with your head on his warm chest feeling almost half asleep.
“What do you think of marriage now?” Stewy asked interrupting the peaceful post-sex silence. There was an air of playfulness but his voice was softer, quieter, almost sleepy.
“Pardon?” You shifted slightly off his chest to get a better look at his face. You were certain you’d heard him correctly but you weren’t sure if maybe you’d fully given into sleep and this was gibberish or a dream.
“We’ve talked about eloping before.”
“Yeah, yes we have but-”
“I wasn’t joking.” Stewy said as he gently held your chin between his index finger and his thumb. His voice was still soft but it was a bit firmer now, more serious than tired or playful. You bit your lip unsure of what to say as he continued to look into your eyes with his beautiful, diluted ones.
“You know what that would entail Stewy. Your career-”
“I do and-”
“Stewy.” You rested your chin on his chest looking at him. He could see that you were tired.
“So you don’t want to marry me right before your brother and Willa? Maybe a day or two after? Get that IUD out, then pop out a few babies. I’ll even be super fucking generous and get a vasectomy.” His tone was more teasing now and you had a feeling the humour wasn’t completely genuine but partially a cover-up of possible hurt.
“Sweetie, I love you. Can we talk about this tomorrow? Maybe not talk about this ‘post-coitus’.” You offered him a small smile and combed your fingers through his hair, admiring the dark locks and the stunning strands of silver.
“Yes ma’am.” Stewy nodded and kissed your forehead. You settled back into his chest and it wasn’t long until you had dozed off in his arms and on the comfortable pillow of his chest with the reassuring sound of his heartbeat.
********
You’d been the only one of your siblings to stay for Connor’s wedding. Weddings were just business opportunities in the world of the Roys, grief couldn’t exist with the market and leadership decisions. You didn’t like how the wedding or death side of that traumatic day went down or how it was handled but unexpected deaths weren’t meant to be convenient or follow logic.
You were now in your deceased father’s penthouse at his wake, having spent most of the morning hiding in a corner from as many eyes as possible. You’d really only spoken to Connor and Willa, your other siblings were in a sitting room being as business-focused as possible.
It had been a little while into the Wake and you were with your siblings when Stewy and the Furnesses came in. Connor and Willa had been the easiest to talk to which wasn’t really anything new. Kendall and you occasionally made little remarks to each other and even you and Shiv exchanged some looks over other people’s comments or well, audacity.
You took Stewy’s handsome face in, he looked well-rested and fresh-eyed despite the fact that he’d been up most of the night with grieving you. He was handsomely dressed and groomed as always. You wanted to be held by him again, to leave and be curled up in a ball with him. Normally you two acted amicably when your paths crossed in the Roy world and public like this. But you were too depressed and exhausted for the usual furtive nature.
He’d hugged and given his condolences to your sister Shiv and then she’d moved on to Sandi. You looked at Stewy and gave him a small smile, he went to give you a hug and a faux kiss on the cheek as he did for Shiv but you needed more than that, you needed him. You genuinely hugged him and pressed your head against his chest, hearing his heartbeat, a firm, undeniable reminder that he was there was always comforting. You didn’t care that your siblings were nearby, it wasn’t an indecent act.
Stewy couldn’t and wouldn’t say no to affection from you ever, let alone in your state in this context. He reciprocated the genuine hug and you held onto him for maybe a few seconds longer than you should’ve if you wanted to avoid the suspicion of your siblings.
You pulled away despite never wanting to do and tilted your head to see that he was looking at you warmly, sympathy written all over his eyes. His hands had moved to softly rest on the sides of your arm, the touch was comforting but could easily be perceived and argued as platonic to an onlooker. He had a small, genuine smile on his face as he looked at you.
“Hey,” he said softly.
“Hey.” You responded back quietly. You wanted to kiss him, you were almost tempted to and then Kendall was quickly whisking Stewy away.
You went back to your corner and eventually, you were joined by Kendall and Roman. You saw that Stewy was making his rounds of small talk and his eyes occasionally wandering, searching for you to see where you were and how you were doing.
“Have you thought about psychoanalysing yourself?”
“What?” You questioned exhaustedly as your mind was pulled away from stealing glances at Stewy by Roman’s words.
“That was a bit too touchy with Ken-doll’s boyfriend.” Roman retorted. “I didn’t realise jumping on your brother’s BFF was one of the five stages of grief.”
“Excuse me?” You now glared at him.
“Oh, I guess it must be a new one they added in.  Are you gonna get a model named after yourself? Or are you saving the Roy model for something more fucked up?”
“I’m not doing this Roman.” You sighed in exasperation and walked off to find a glass of wine but were quickly disturbed again.
“Don’t worry, he doesn’t actually know about you two,” Kendall smirked as he whispered to you.
“What the fuck Ken?” You jumped at the fright from Kendall, you were grateful that you were still empty-handed or else you’d have stained your outfit if not all of your surroundings from your brotherly jumpscare. Your reaction just made Kendall’s smirk grow. “You knew? But Stewy never told you.”
“He didn’t. I figured out a while ago that you two were uh…” He dramatically paused for a moment as if he was thinking of the right word with a teasing smirk. “Copulating.”
“Ken!” You elbowed him softly to try and get him to quieten down. “Why did you never say anything?” You quietly questioned.
“Well, it was pretty fucking weird at first. He’s not the worst Harvard finance bro out there.” Kendall said with a playful expression. “He keeps you happy-adjacent right?”
“Yeah, he does. Thank you.” You gave Kendall a tight-lipped but grateful smile.
“You know, you don’t have to hide it anymore right?”
You looked up at Kendall, questioning him with your eyes. You and Stewy’s relationship was complicated and you’d say it was pretty healthy despite the furtive nature, it had been that way for everyone’s personal and professional sake. Kendall’s smirk started to slowly slip as he took in your expression.
“He’s dead.” Kendall spoke softly as you stared into each other’s eyes, he placed his hand on your arm as his face grew more serious. You eyed Kendall trying to find the right words. Sure your father had been part of it but it was a complicated situation with many pieces.
“I could live with dad icing me out, cutting that relationship. I made peace with what that is a while ago. But-but, it’s when Roman, Shiv, and you. That’s what really hurts.”
“That’ll be all that Roman says and well Shiv, she’ll only say anything about it behind your back.”
“So comforting and reassuring.” You dryly said.
“I’ll send you the invoice for Kendall Roy’s Therapy.” He teased and you both chuckled dryly at that.
There wasn’t much else to say to that and you knew Kendall wasn’t ready to talk about the bigger problems yet so you gave your brother a tight hug that he quickly reciprocated. You stayed in each other’s arms for a few moments, it was healing and reassuring in a way.
You then left to sit on a miraculously empty couch as Kendall went off to talk to Roman and Shiv again about company matters you didn’t want to hear about and that they wouldn’t want to discuss in front of you or Connor anyway. As you sat there, Stewy caught your eyes again and this time he finally came over. He sat next to you on the sofa but left a reasonable, person-sized gap between the two of you.
“Kendall knows, you know.” You quietly state looking at him tiredly, the events of the last 24 hours and your lack of sleep were quickly catching up with you.
“Well, I’m in private equity not acting baby.” You scoff at that and smile, sinking a little further into the sofa.
“Perspicuously not in comedy either, babe.” You say with a smile that grows. You tilt your head to look at his expression, his big beautiful eyes are watching you and there’s the cocky smile plastered on his face that you’re in love with.
“I’ve learnt it’s best to save the wit for the Roys.” He shoots back with a mischievous gleam in his eye.
Stewy’s here and he’s being cheeky for your sake. You love that about him, his tongue isn’t biting like your siblings but his humour is a way of showing up.
“Do you want to go on the balcony for a minute?” You questioned. “I want some fresh air.”
“Yeah, yeah, sure.” He leaned his hand over that empty space of safety between you two to squeeze your hand for a second before you got up and he then followed you.
He leant against the railing and watched you once you were both out on the much more, pleasantly quiet balcony.
You laid your head against his chest and wrapped your arms around him, listening to his heart calmly beat as he pressed his chin against the top of your head and exhaled. Stewy’s thumb was tracing reassuring patterns on your arm. He hummed softly for a moment and you could feel the vibration of it on the top of your skull.
You and Stewy both knew this was a sure way to be caught but neither of you cared in this moment and didn’t care about any of the consequences. They were manageable, they felt minor now and realistically they were. This would shift the family dynamic and having furtive hands with your lover always seemed to you to be in the best interests of Stewy’s career and the dramas between him, Kendall and Waystar.
You were pretty okay with being out in the open with Stewy and he felt the same way. As the relationship went on, he wanted that more and more. His post-coitus conversation was serious and not a post-orgasm thought.
“You were serious about eloping before Connor’s wedding weren’t you?”
“Probably poor taste to say it right now but yes baby, dead serious.”
You laughed at that and he felt it vibrate against him and it made him smile. He just wanted to bring you a bit of comfort and joy on an awful day like today.
“I don’t think it’s a bad idea.”
“Are you saying you want to get eloped?”
“Well, I was thinking of leaking the story to ATN that Stewy Hosseini is so whipped by the Roys that he gets a vasectomy for one and not the one they’d expect.” You teased, laughing a bit more and he laughed as well.
“Well, as much as I think we could find you something short to wear as an elopement dress, maybe something fun and scandalous like Sharon Tate’s since you like those old flicks. I don’t think we should leave your dad’s wake to go off and elope, might be the cultural upbringing differences but seems a little rude to me.” Stewy teased, you laughed and kissed him on the lips softly for a moment.
“How does tomorrow sound?”
“For an elopement?” “Yeah.”
“Perfect.”
Roy’s arm was still wrapped around your shoulder, fingers tracing circles on your bare skin as he laughed at something your brother-in-law said. Another reason you’d picked Roy to be your fake boyfriend: he got along perfectly with your family and didn’t need to create some fake personality to make them like him. They adored Roy. It was probably your dad’s deepest dream to have the two of you get together.
You had caught the look on your dad’s face as he watched you across the room. His smile was that soft, gentle smile, the one he’d worn when you were a kid receiving an award, or when you learned to ride a bicycle, or when he helped you move into your first place all on your own. It was his proud, I love you so much smile. And it broke your heart a little, knowing that he’d be so sad when you and Roy “broke up” after the wedding. Almost as sad as you would be when the weekend ended, and Roy went back to just being your friend’s big brother who you pined after in silence.
But for now, you laid your head on his shoulder as your older sister shared some silly story about your nephew, enjoying the rumbling you felt when he chuckled, that gruff sound that made your heart skip a beat.
He leaned close and whispered in your ear, “How’m I doing?”
Ignoring the shiver his breath sent down your spine, you nodded. “Perfect,” you answered quietly. Just as your gaze flickered down to his mouth, wondering how many kisses you could get away with by excusing them as part of the “act”, a housekeeper came in and announced dinner, asking everyone to follow her to the dining room.
Roy was on his feet immediately, holding his hand out to help you up. “Feel like I’m on an episode of fucking Downton Abbey,” he hissed, smirking.
“What do you know about Downton Abbey?” you teased with a laugh.
“I know you’ve got a fucking thing for Matthew Crawley,” he shot back, raising his eyebrows at you.
Feeling like you were being watched, you gripped Roy’s arm affectionately. “Is someone jealous?” you cooed.
“Maybe,” was the small growl before Roy’s lips connected with yours again for a brief, heated moment that made your heart skip a beat. “Is this alright?” he whispered, nose brushing affectionately against yours as everyone else walked past the two of you. “The kissing?” His eyes were full of concern, a look he often gave you when he got protective. As any guy would of his baby sister’s best friend- right?
You shrugged coyly. “Getting to spend my weekend snogging a handsome footballer kind of helps take the sting out of the whole ‘my sister is marrying my ex’ bullshit.”
The smile he wore was a surprised one. “You think I’m handsome?”
“Oh, shut up, you know you are,” you tutted, giving him a playful shove as you moved past him into the dining room. With your back to him you missed the fierce blush that covered his face as he shook his head and watched you, that big smile remaining despite no one being around to see it.
Once everyone had settled in their seats, Jim’s dad raised a glass. “Thank you all for joining us to celebrate our only son and his lovely bride-to-be,” he started, nodding to Jim and Lauren, who sat directly across from Roy and yourself. “It’s going to be a very busy weekend, so it’s nice to have the opportunity to have our first official meal as a family before the festivities.” His eyes lingered on you for a moment, wistfulness flickering across his face for a brief moment.
When you and Roy had arrived at the house and were searching for your room, you’d bumped into Jim’s parents in the hall; there was a lot of clearing of throats and avoiding eye contact from all three of you as you re-introduced them to Roy, informing them that the two of you were now dating. Jim’s mother looked almost disappointed at the news, the corners of her mouth tugging downward, before recovering and offering her congratulations.
Jim’s dad continued his little toast. “I hope this weekend is full of wonderful memories for our new family and that this is the first of many celebrations we share.”
As everyone raised their glasses in agreement, Roy reached under the table for your hand, despite the fact that no one could see it. While you marveled at how determined he was to convince the whole table of your farce, Roy knew the truth: he wanted to hold your hand, plain and simple. And after all this time, this weekend finally gave him excuse to hold it as much as he wanted. There was no way he was going to waste that.
He did reluctantly have to let go once dinner was served, but not without bringing it to his lips and pressing a kiss to your hand first. Across the table, Jim’s eyes narrowed slightly, before he turned to Lauren, acting like the picture of the attentive fiancé. You couldn’t help but notice the more Roy leaned over to whisper jokes in your ear, or found an excuse to touch your hand, or acted generally boyfriend-y, the more Jim mirrored that affection with Lauren. You did your best not to dwell on the observation, instead focusing on how nice it was to have Roy Kent by your side.
When dessert was served, Jim’s mum suggested taking it outside to enjoy the lovely night. Roy grabbed your bowl before you could and planted a kiss on the top of your head.
“Just grab the spoons, yeah, love?”
Love. Roy Kent just called you love. You’d seen him with other women he’d dated- really dated- and you’d never heard him call any of them love. The word stopped the breath in your chest as you reminded yourself that he was playing a role, acting as the perfect doting boyfriend.
But goodness, you liked the way it sounded.
You led Roy to the garden, where Roy nodded to a bench nestled under a low tree, a bit away from where everyone else was sitting.
“Mind if we sit over here?”
Your chest purred with pleasure at the idea of being alone with him in the secluded little corner, even if just for show. “Sounds good,” you managed.
Roy watched you carefully as you sat down before joining you on the bench, sitting closer than he had to, pressing his thigh against yours. He knew, deep down, that he was kind of taking advantage of the situation, that he was just a friend doing you a favor, but fuck, when was he going to get another chance like this? To dote on you, to touch you, to kiss you, to show you how mad about you he was. He would worry about getting his heart broken later.
“How you feelin’?” he asked, trading your dessert for one of the spoons you held out.
You shrugged as you took the bowl that he handed you. “Alright.” Your gaze flickered to Jim and Lauren, who were chatting with Jim’s parents. Jim’s eyes locked with yours for a brief moment before you turned back to Roy, who watched you with a frown. “How are you? You’re doing a great job with this whole boyfriend thing. You’re a natural.”
Roy turned his focus to his dessert, ignoring how tight his chest felt. “I’m fuckin’ fine. More concerned with you, actually. I’m sure all this… is hard.” He lifted his head to look at you. “It fucking sucks. Watching the love of your life be in love with someone else. Really fucking sucks.”
Something in the fiery way he looked at you sent a shiver down your spine. “Yeah. This is pretty damn difficult.” After a moment, you shook your head. “But… I don’t think Jim was the love of my life.” Roy’s raised eyebrows urged you on. “I mean, I loved him. Really, I did. And I would’ve married him. And it hurts like hell watching him marry someone else, never mind who it is.” You shrugged. “But he wasn’t the love of my life,” you repeated firmly.
“How d’you know?” Roy leaned towards you intently, both of you completely forgetting about the sweets in your hands.
“I don’t,” you admitted with a soft chuckle. “But I have to keep telling myself that, don’t I? Have to keep hope that the real love of my life is still out there, looking for me as much as I’m looking for him.”
Roy’s heart was on fire listening to you. He wanted so badly to tell you that he was right fucking there, that he’d been there for years. He wanted to give you a real kiss and whisk you away to the swanky bedroom you were sharing. Fuck, he wanted to offer to take Jim and Lauren’s place in front of the officiant on Saturday if you were keen.
Instead, he gave you a small, understanding nod. “Should write that down, it’s fucking beautiful.” And you knew he meant it. “Right. Well. I am… going to find a fucking bathroom.” He stood, putting down his bowl and forcing a playful smirk. “Don’t eat my fucking dessert, and if I’m not back in an hour, send a search party, see if I fell into a moat or got caught in a dungeon or some shit.” He bent down and kissed the top of your head before walking briskly into the house, hands stuffed in his pockets.
“You two were having a pretty serious conversation from the looks of it,” your father’s voice mused.
You looked up at your father, who was observing you carefully. “Just about how weird this weekend is,” you half-lied. “He just wanted to make sure I was okay.”
He nodded. “Well, I’m sure it’s strange for him too. Watching you watch your ex get married.” He bobbled his head. “Be easy on him.”
You shook your head. “Roy knows there’s no feelings there. Just awkwardness, really. He completely understands.”
“He’s a good guy. You know I’ve always thought so.” He laughed. “We’re all just glad you two finally figured it out.”
“Right. Right.” You thought for a moment about the way your family wasn’t completely surprised by your new “relationship”. “You know, I’m still not sure what I was missing all those years. What did everyone see that I didn’t?”
A smile crossed his face. “Really, love? You never noticed the way that fella looked at you? All wide-eyed and flushed? Or the way he’d run himself ragged during matches when he knew you were there, just to impress you? There was one Christmas he came home, and I swear he took one look at you and looked ready to quit football just so he could stay with ya.” He chuckled. “Just glad he finally made his move.”
“Oh. Yeah.” You giggled weakly, pretending you’d noticed those things. “And was I just as obvious?”
“God, maybe worse,” your dad chortled, slapping his hands together with glee. “Where to start? Always finding a reason to talk to him, screaming like a banshee whenever you watch him play, and your mother and I overheard more than one late-night call to Sunderland when he was away. I’m just surprised it took him so long to realize how in love you’ve always been.”
Roy chose that moment, with your face starting to warm, to return. He nodded to your dad as he resumed his seat beside you. “Alright there?” He scrunched his eyebrows together. “Your face is all red.” He leaned close and planted a kiss on your cheek, relishing the heat against his lips. “Fucking cute when you blush,” he hummed. His own cheeks reddened when your dad cleared his throat, reminding Roy that he had an audience. “Fuck. Sorry,” he hissed.
Your dad held his hands up in defeat. “Can’t blame you two for wanting to make up for lost time.” He clapped your shoulder lovingly and returned to your mother, who was watching you with a soft smile.
Deciding to let yourself lean into things as much as Roy, you leaned your chin on his shoulder, gazing up at him adoringly. “Feeling kind of tired,” you murmured. “Thinking I’ll head to bed.”
Sure enough, he pecked your forehead. “I’ll join you.”
Rather quickly, you noticed, Roy grabbed your forgotten desserts and carried them to the table Jim and Lauren sat at. You followed him, offering a small wave to everyone.
“Goodnight,” you called.
Lauren raised an eyebrow. “More alone time?”
You wrapped your arms around Roy’s middle and squeezed tight. “Just a bit knackered. And I know tomorrow’s a busy day, want to be well-rested.”
Jim offered a tight smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. “Goodnight then.”
Conversely, Roy’s smile was wide. “Have a great night, Jim.” He nodded to everyone else before taking your hand and leading you inside.
As the two of you walked down the hall to your room, you couldn’t help but realize that Roy was still holding your hand; you told yourself it must be in case someone happened to see you. That had to be it; Roy committing to this whole fake-relationship thing.
Once you were in the room, you each silently went about getting ready for bed, with Roy letting you use the restroom to change. You quickly removed your makeup, brushed your teeth (longer than usual), and changed into your pyjamas, feeling suddenly a bit shy in your sleeping shorts and oversized shirt. But Roy’d seen you in pyjamas plenty of times; how was this really any different?
For Roy, it was completely different. His breath caught in his throat when you walked out of the bathroom and his grip on the t-shirt he was about to put on tightened. It wasn’t necessarily the view- which admittedly drove him mad- but the knowledge that, in just a few minutes, you’d be in bed. With him.
Likewise, your heart hammered as you once again saw his bare chest- or “bear chest”, as Paul once joked at a pool party. You couldn’t tell if you were relieved or disappointed when he tugged on his black shirt, covering the hair and the light blush that covered his skin.
“D’you care which side?” he grumbled, pulling back the covers. He knew he should offer to sleep on the floor or something, but he knew you didn’t mind; how many times had you fallen asleep leaning against him on the couch? Or that time your families had gone camping and you had begged him to cuddle with you because it was so fucking cold?
Sure enough, you shrugged and helped him pull back the blankets. “Up to you.”
With a grunt, Roy threw himself on the bed, grinning when you did the same. “Only took, what, thirty years. But look at us, our first slumber party.”
You rolled your eyes and brought the blankets over yourselves; Roy couldn’t help but notice the tender way you made sure he was covered. “Roy, I spent the night at your house so many times growing up. We absolutely had slumber parties.”
He shook his head with a small breathy laugh. “Come on. You weren’t there for me.”
Not knowing what came over you, you turned onto your side and propped yourself up on your elbow, your eyes tracing Roy’s profile. “Who said I wasn’t?” you teased.
It was Roy’s turn to roll his eyes. “Oh, fuck off,” he grumbled, smile playing on his lips. “Go the fuck to sleep.”
With that, he turned and clicked off the lamp that sat on the nightstand, leaving you in darkness, wondering how you were going to sleep with the knowledge that Roy Kent was right next to you. Miraculously, you did finally fall asleep, listening to Roy’s soft snores that you knew you’d have to tease him about.
The next morning, you woke up with your head on Roy’s chest, his arm wrapped around you tenderly as he continued to snooze.
Fuck.
Your breath became shallow as you tried to figure out what to do. Gently pull out of his grasp? Stay this way and hope he woke up and removed his arm? Part of you- fine, all of you- wished you could wake up this way every morning.
Carefully, you removed Roy’s arm, the spot where his hand had been quickly becoming cold, and rolled over as slowly as you could, not stopping until you were flat on your back, a safe distance from Roy. Holding in a sigh, you stared at the ceiling, wondering if you’d be able to get through this weekend with your heart in one piece.
Every single time I see someone say “Roy is Dick’s first friend” or “Wally is Dick’s first friend” I die a little, wasn't Bruce Dick’s FIRST FRIEND!!!!
Anyway, for all you brudick shippers just change friend to crush lol.
While I do agree that obviously Bruce was Dick’s friend before Roy or Wally, I also think that Dick absolutely had friends in the circus. So Roy, Wally, and Bruce fans are all WRONG. Dick’s first friend was most likely another performer in the circus that he had to leave behind.
Okay but seriously we are talking about after his parents are murdered, so i’ll give you a better answer
I think it’s easier for people to label the relationship Dick has with Roy and with Wally as his first friendships because those are pivitol peer friendships. Which is usually what one thinks of when they think of when they think of friendships: people your own age.
Dick and Bruce are best friends, at many points in time. But there are a lot of layers to that relationship that muddle that label. Bruce was an authority figure to Dick, and there are remnants of that dynamic that last into Dick’s adulthood. He’s been Dick’s mentor, his master, his quasi older brother and father figure. There is an unconditional of trust, respect, and loyalty that Dick develops due to these dynamics! In short, Bruce means a lot to Dick. Probably more than anyone else he’s ever met.
But Bruce will always be older than Dick, so there is an imbalance. They aren’t going through the same developmental milestones together. There is an inevitable gap in relatability. It’s probably one of the fundamental reasons why the rift between them forms when Dick is growing into adulthood and they don’t know how to rebalance their dynamic.
Dick’s peers like Wally, Roy, Donna, etc., are able to relate to Dick in ways that Bruce can’t. It is also much easier to fit these characters into clean boxes like “friend” because they don’t have these other weird dynamics that Bruce and Dick have.
Comparing Dick’s other friendships with what he has going on with Bruce is almost like apples to oranges.
As for first crush, i’ll ignore comic canon because i’m dying on the Bruce Was Dick’s First Serious Crush hill. how could he not be, he’s batman and he loves you. no way you’re not being lovesick about it
Being Connors Favorite Sibling Would Include:
Requested: could I request something with Connor and Roy!sibling? headcanons, a fic, literally anything I'm in love with their relationship and how much they love each other. I think a little sibling that loves Connor the way he deserves would be so good for him - anon
A/N: I love Big Brother Connor!!! He deserves the world 💞 Thank you for requesting my love! Hope you like it!! Feedback is always appreciated!!!! 💜
Tumblr media
Connor was ecstatic the day you were born. He thought he was done being a big brother, that his job was kinda done. Ken, Rome, and Shiv were grown up, they didn't think they'd need him anymore. Little did he know that you would be the closest to him out of everyone, that you would need him the most
Being a big brother is his favorite job in the world. He wasn't sure what being loved, really loved, felt like until Kendall was born. From the minute he could crawl, he followed Connor wherever he wanted. So did Roman. And when Shiv was born, he couldn't believe it. He'd always wanted a sister and now he had one. She was absolutely perfect
But you? You were his everything. Neither your mother or your father were all that interested, so the responsibility fell on him, not that he would ever complain. He loved it, even when you spit up on him. The other three were grossed out, hating to change diapers and getting annoyed with your crying, but he was more than happy to calm you down, sit with you, rock you back and forth, etc.
Your first words were his name, too, which almost killed him. Seriously, he still brings it up, he's so proud
He loved watching you grow into a toddler. You were a lot more fun. You could walk and talk and play. You loved when he got on the floor with you and played with you. He even dressed up with you when he wanted to play pretend, though mostly he was too tall for the costumes, so he made do with the hats and accessories instead
"Connor?"
"Yes y/n?"
"Why is the sky blue?"
"That's a good question. . ."
He takes you to preschool every day and tries to be there at pickup as much as he can. He loves to hear about your day, what you learned, who you talked to, what you played with, the snacks you ate, etc. He only gets more interested the older you get, when you learn about the planets and dinosaurs and you read all these interesting books. When school started, he was sad to see you go. You'd been his little buddy and suddenly you were all grown up
Every presentation, award, musical, play, game, show, everything he showed up for, front row with his phone out recording, cheering the loudest
He takes you camping, to the park and the movies, wherever you want to go. He thinks it's good for you to get out of the city
"Why doesn't dad ever come with us?"
"Pops is a very busy man. . ."
Connor is constantly sticking up Logan despite the fact that he's never really shown an ounce of love or attention towards either of you. He wants to protect you from that unloved feeling. He needs to, like he has with your siblings
No matter how small it seemed to you, it meant the world to him. Eventually you stopped inviting your mother and father, going straight to him. He'd tell the president to fuck off if it meant he got to spend a second more with you
He helped you with homework, staying up late at the kitchen table going over the same math problem again and again. He never got mad or frustrated, though. He'd take as long as you needed
You could do no wrong in his eyes. When you fought with Ken, when you argued with Shiv, when you pushed Rome, none of it was your fault. None of them could stand it
When you cried he was the first person you went to. When you got your heart broken for the first time, when you wondered why your parents even had you if they were never around, when you had nightmares as a child and when your worst fears came true, you cried to him
The older you got, the more distance you put between you and him. Kids strayed from their parents once they became teenagers, that's just how it worked. Still, he felt unprepared for the days when you wouldn't need him so much
He taught you how to drive and study with you before your test. You weren't very good, but you had no idea. He was ecstatic when you parallel parked the first time. He made you feel proud, even if at first it felt silly
He was there when you walked across the stage for your diploma for both high school and college, cheering the loudest. He made a rule that you'd call him once a week in college and you never missed it, not even once. You'd tell him about your friends, the parties you went to, to the people you were seeing. He wanted to hear everything
Everything you've accomplished, he couldn't be prouder
You go to his ranch as much as you can, enjoying the distance between you and your father. The older you get, the more you realize how he was never in your life and how much Connor was. It makes you sad, thinking he had to step up, take responsibility for his baby sibling. He is adamant that raising you was a pleasure, the best thing he's ever done
He has pictures of you everywhere. Of the others too, but mostly of you. You can't help but find them embarrassing
"I look like an idiot."
"You were adorable." He looks at them every single day, proud as ever
He visits you in the office, taking you out for lunch when he's in the city. He's the only one who doesn't work for your father, but he likes hearing about it from you. He can't believe how grown up you are, how adult you've suddenly gotten. It seems like just yesterday they brought you home. Now you had meetings and deadlines and your own interns to boss around
"Look at you, all grown up. I can't believe it!"
He's the first person you call when anything happens. When Kendall's gone manic, when Dad hits Rome, when Shiv seems off, when you're getting a promotion, a first date, anything and everything. He's always there to offer advice on how to handle the situation. He's been dealing with them far longer than you have
You show him how to use social media so he can see the pictures you post, not wanting to miss out on anything. There are lots of pictures of you and him together
"Who's that?"
"I'm kinda seeing them."
"That's wonderful! When do I get to meet them?"
Forget your mother and father, it's Connor you're worried about when you're seeing someone. They're never good enough for you. He quizzes them on everything, bordering on an interrogation. In the end, no matter what he thinks of them, he's happy you've found someone that makes you happy
You and him go on double dates with your partner and Willa, who adores you. She lovingly calls you Connors Baby. She's glad someone else loves him like he should be, instead of being used and ignored and neglected like the rest do
You're one of the most well-rounded, healthy, adjusted Roys to come out of the family, or as close as you can get, because of him
He always sits by you at family dinners and vacations, between you and Logan, hoping he can be the target for his anger if need be
When you drink too much he takes care of you, especially at weddings, and always saves a dance for you at the end of the night
"Thank you, Con."
"For what?"
"For everything."
You care very little for your father, but when he dies Connor is right there offering comfort. You were never close to him. You never got the chance to build a relationship with him, no matter how warped, like the others. Connor was your dad, you thought so for the longest time when you were little, your fathers day cards addressed to him instead of Logan. You're sad for your siblings who loved him despite it all
You're the only one to attend Connors wedding, cheering and clapping when they kiss. You wouldn't have missed it for anything
Connor has spent your entire life protecting you and for that, you will always be grateful. It's something you can never repay
Donna and Dick comic recs
@tired-teddybear asked me to do one and here it is:
New Teen titans (1980):
This was my first introduction to theirs friendship.
Specifically Issue 14: where Dick is the first (and only) to realize that Donna is not okay after seperating for a few days.
Issue 16: which is Kory centric but Donna and Dick spent almost the entire comic together investigating.
Issue 21: This is the arc that introduce Brother blood and I would suggest also reading 22, it's also very good (although it is not really Donna and Dick centric just Dick centric). The arc is really good in general
Issue 29: Donna tries to talk to Dick and have a heart to heart, It's cute but also Dick is being stubborn and punishing himself but we love drama and trauma so (it's also a brother blood thing). Also I think Roy makes his first appearance in the New titans run and it's fun.
Issue 38: my beloved or Who is Donna Troy ? This one is probably one of the best Donna and Dick issue out there, . it is centered around Dick using his detective skills to figure out who Donna's family are. It's a fun mystery but the center of it all is just theirs friendship and this is is THE issue I would recommend for Dick and Donna's friendship.
Tale of new Titans:
Issue 42: The beginning of the Judas contract (I mean honestly the whole arc is just really good in general), they have some really cute moments.
Issue 50: sigh...the wedding. On one hand, I just don't like who she is getting married to but it's worth it for the Dick and Donna moments, he is the one to walk her down the aisle <3. It's very good.
New teen titans vol 2:
Issues 18-19: if you want angst and drama, that's the one. They are fighting on this one.It's sad but you know, we love angst and drama.
Issue 32: This is genuinely one of my favorite. The titans are having fun. It's fun and I love it (also there is a murder mystery..sort of but I don't care, it's so fun)
Issue 36: One hand you've got the weird Raven doesn't understand her feeling and her crush on Dick is about to spill on him due to powers, On the other , Donna and Dick are having fun together training at the begining of the issue and Dick almost dies.
Wonder Woman vol 2 (1987): issue 164-168 Gods of Gotham:
Honestly the entire arc is fun if you want to see some of the Gotham villain being godified and a team up between the Batfam and the Wonderfam of the time.
But especially issues 165/167/168. Dick and Donna come together and just stay together almost the entire time and it's just fun.
JLA/Titans:
Okay listen, this is the perfect story if you want to understand the difference the JLA and the titans. It's great for both of them
Issue 3: It's so sad yet so good. Poor Donna.
Titans (1999):
There are some things around original Titans happening in this run that I didn't like but I think this is one of the best comic if you want to see the relationship between all of the fab five (also not Donna and Dick related but Roy is just so great in this, I love him so much).
Issue 15 (my beloved): The Fab five are stuck on an island and it's great for both the entire group and for Donna not being able to resist meeting a certain someone of Dick's past (It's great, I love it so much).
Issue 25: Who is Troia: Donna centric with time travel shenanigans. Older Dick taking the time to reminds Donna of her strength. We love to see it. 10 Out of 10.
(honorable mention:11,28-29 where the titans sort of becomes guardians to a bunch a superpowered children).
Titans secret files (2): The titans decided to show up in Bludhaven and make fun of Dick and in the middle of that, both of them get a heart to heart and it's great (plus a hug <3 )
Batman Chronicle 7:
Since it's several stories, the Dick and Donna one start at page 21. They are hanging out, out of costume, they are great and we get another hug.
Titans/Young Justice: Graduation day and Dc special: the return of Donna Troy:
Those two should probably be read together. What happens to Donna in the end of Graduation Day really mark the beginning of a terrible period of time for Dick both because of that (see Outsiders) and for other reasons (Devin Grayson) the dc special is an important sequel to that. However, I will say,in my opinion, if you are reading for Dick and Donna the return of Donna Troy might be a bit of a disappointment because while the two other of Donna's relationships that were emphasized in Graduation Days (Cassie and Roy) were followed through, I felt like Dick was a bit relegated back to the group.
Titans (2008):
I haven't read it because it seems to be a bit of a..mess and Dick leave 10 issues in. I know there are some Donna and Dick moments though ?
JLA v2:
Donna and Dick are co-leading the Justice League as Batman and Troia. It's great, they are great and really competent and I kinda love it.
Issue 41: Donna meets Damian with Dick. It's so fun, she is so amused, I love it.
Issue 60: The end of that era. It's a good goodbye that isn't a goodbye because it's Donna and Dick (but also it is a goodbye, this is right before New 52 when Donna doesn't exist for a long time and Dick has no friends)
Titans hunt:
reuniting of the fab five, Bumblebee and Lilith. They are paired together with Garth from beginning to end and are mostly fighting side by side. It's great
Titans rebirth (2016):
I actually didn't like the run and had to stop when the team is dismantled for the first time by the Justice League. It feels too impersonal for the Titans. That said: There are 2 issues that are good:
Titans Annual 1: Which is another compare and contrast between the Titans and the Justice League done well (it isn't Donna and Dick centric but it's good and I thought I would still mention it)
The Titans special: It has a really sweet Donna and Dick moment as he is trying to recruit her into a new Titan run (that said they made Donna says that Wally was her best friend to Dick's face and I'm not sure I'll ever forgive it for that)
Batman/Superman: World Finest:
honestly I just recommend this run in general, it's the only one I'm currently following and the arc is great but it's not really Donna and Dick centric, the Teen Titans are in it in issues 8 and Donna is worried about Dick and it's really great.
World Finest: Teen Titan (the spin off).
I'm a bit divised on that, I think it's fun and has a really good take on Batman's relationship with Dick. I like the foil between Dick and Roy but it feels a bit tone deaf when it comes to the case, also stop making Donna kiss one of the boy that isn't Roy on theirs team. I'm begging you. That said, Donna and Dick are kinda the confident of the other with Donna being the one who will calls out somone else if they go too far and Dick motherhenning when he learn what Donna has beeen doing.
Convergence: Teen Titans:
If you are mad about the ending of the New Titans (1989), then you are going to love that, Kori and Dick are married and the Titans have to protect theirs New York and Dick fucked up but also get to hold hand with Donna and that's a plus for me
(Also, please read convergence Titans just for the fix-it of it all even if Dick isn't in it.It's great, Roy got Lian back we love to see it)
I think I forgot some, if you have more, feel free to ad to this
I stared at the clock – the hands slowly moving as my packed suitcase sat below my bed.
The thought of leaving the ruling and hard hand of my father had been a pipedream of mine for a while. There were days when I convinced myself that today was the day. I was just gonna walk right out of the house – bidding my parents a big fuck you as I ventured into the new world. I always managed to talk myself out of it after an hour – too afraid of what my father would do to stop me. Before tonight, I never even had a bag packed or a plan for that matter.
“I had to hear from Fred Hastings that he saw you and Wilson Grady fornicating in the back alley of his hardware store. Do you know how embarrassed your mother and I are to have people know that our daughter – our only daughter – is nothing but a cheap whore?”
I winced as he roughly grabbed onto my arms, shaking my upper body in rage as my mother just sat back and watched. The belt that he had used so often was wrapped around his hand, the buckle dangling as he shook.
“You are nothing but a piece of trash – a cheap whore that will open her legs to any man on the streets.” I sniffed back tears, my red hair sticking to my face as it became wet. He roughly pushed me to the ground, standing over me with a look of disgust etched on his aging face.
I attempted to get up, only to be stopped by his heavy foot on my abdomen. “Don’t even think about getting up, whore.” I glanced over at my mother hoping that she would make him throw in the towel. Her dead eyes met mine, looking away quickly as father’s heavy hand made contact with my thigh.
The leather material of the belt hurt like hell, but he had moved past using that. His favorite – at least for me – was the buckle. I can’t begin to tell you how many scars I have on my upper thighs and bottom from the contact of the metal meeting my thin skin.
Blow after blow – derogatory words spewing from his mouth like venom with each strike. My older brother, Brian was finally the one to step in – telling our father that I’ve had enough. Brian didn’t bother helping me up or making sure I was okay, too afraid of father himself.
Out of breath, father’s eyes connected with mine. “You think this time was bad-“His face mere inches from mine. “If I even hear that you’ve looked at another boy – I will make sure you won’t see the light of day ever again.”
I must’ve laid there for 30 minutes before slowly walking back to my bedroom. The sun had set by this time – meaning that it was almost bedtime for Roy and Brenda. Father made it a rule that it was lights out at sunset – the mind and body needed at least 7-8 hours of rest. Plus, his famous words were that nothing good happens after sunset.
Without giving it a second thought, I just started to pack.
I kept the lights off, giving off the appearance that I was sleeping in bed. I just grabbed whatever I had, stuffing it into the large suitcase. I knew that I would have to leave most of my possessions – items that I had collected since childhood. My father would more than likely just throw everything in the fire since he’s already said it was all a waste of money…
The big hand hovered over the 12 as I quietly gathered the case. I held my shoes in my hands as I took one last look at my childhood room. The pink walls dulling with age – the room holding good and bad memories. Tears welled in my eyes as I walked away, tiptoeing past my parents’ bedroom door. The house was silent – the only noise coming from the clocks on the walls. For once, the steps that led downstairs didn’t creak – the energy of the house agreeing with my decision to leave for good.
Once I reached the outside air – the realization of my actions crashed down on me like a ton of bricks. There was no way I could spend another minute/hour in that house – under the rule of a father who only cared about himself. If I didn’t leave now, I would’ve found a way of leaving this world all together. I wasn’t gonna give him that satisfaction though – Roy Landry deserved to know that I was somewhere in the world living a life that he frowned upon. I wanted word to get back to him that I was running wild – enjoying life – and screwing anyone and everyone that I damn well pleased. He can take the shame and embarrassment that he said I caused the family and shove it up his uptight ass!
That would be the last time I would see my parents alive. Word came that my father died a few years after I left – a heart attack, I think. To this day, my brothers blame me for the decline of our father’s health – saying that the stress of me leaving put a strain on his heart. My mother couldn’t bear to live without my father – passing away five years later in her sleep. I remember trying to call her one day after finding out I was pregnant – a part of me thinking that she had the right to know. Before I could even ask how she was doing, she interrupted and told me to never call her again.
“Thanks for the ride.”
I exited the car, the rain relentless as it soaked through my clothes. I managed to hitch a ride from an older couple – probably feeling sorry for me as I stood on the side of the road. I had been thumbing for a ride for two days now – making it further than I thought I would. I was far enough from home that I didn’t worry about my father or brothers coming to look for me.
I looked across the road – a diner casting a glow through the weather. I hadn’t bathed in three days – the rain and humidity making my skin feel sticky and gross. I had a couple bucks from a man that picked me up yesterday – money in exchange for a quick blow job. He was your typical sleaze ball but he got me out of Arkansas so I couldn’t complain. When I left home, I didn’t have any money saved up. Roy and Brenda weren’t the type of parents to give cash for chores. I hadn’t eaten since dinner that evening, my stomach cramping from the hunger pains.
 I darted across the road, stepping into the muggy building. The older men at the counter watched as I made my way to the restroom – the sink my only option for getting cleaned up. I quickly washed what I could – getting the important bits and pits – pulling off my dirty clothes and replacing them with shorts and a halter top. I pulled my red hair into a ponytail – combing out the knots that had formed from the rain. Once satisfied with my work, I stepped back into the restaurant, taking a seat in an empty booth. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries – basically scarfing it down in record time. I left what was left of my change for the elderly waitress before stepping back out into the summer rain.
I managed to flag down a semi-trailer driver who was headed to Utah with a shipment of goods. He called himself Groovy Bill – a widower from Florida. He had also fought in the war, stationed in France for two years before he was medically discharged. He walked with a limp – the injury coming from a stray bullet that shattered his femur. Groovy Bill didn’t expect anything for the ride – simply enjoying the company. During our three days together, he told me about his wife, Jane and how he met her at the American Legion before he was deployed. They got married once he returned home and started their family. Jane was developed pneumonia after routine surgery and passed away shortly after. I could tell that Bill truly loved and cared about his wife – her picture kept close to his heart.
I was kind of sad when his rig pulled into the office’s parking lot. I waited until he was completely unloaded, wanting to thank him one last time for his generosity and kindness. He didn’t have to pick me up – Hell, he didn’t have to be the kind man that I knew he could only be. In the three days that were together, I felt more of a connection to this man than I did my own father. Bill had a heart of gold and only wanted what was best for his children and people in general.
“Well –“ A sad smile spreading across his bearded face. “ I guess this is the end of the line, chickadee.”
Tears clouded my vision as my arms wrapped tightly around his midsection. The smell of bruit filled my senses as he returned the gesture.
“You take care of yourself, you hear?” I nodded my head against his plaid shirt.
We stood there silently, still embracing, before he pulled away. His tired eyes looked into mine as a fathers would. “Just because the lights are bright, and everything seems perfect- “He paused. “Doesn’t mean that there’s a rainbow at the end.” Referring to my quest to reach California. “You’re a beautiful girl and people will take advantage of that, but it’s up to you to push past the bullshit and become the woman you were born to be.”
With a kiss on top of my greasy head, Groovy Bill climbed back into his truck, driving back into the foggy, morning mist…
I would like to say the rest of my trip to reach California was a breeze, but it was more of a hurricane. Instead of an easy ride like the one I had with Bill, I was forced to give sexual favors in exchange for rides. The men that had picked me up seemed nice at first but the question of what they got in return was brought up halfway through. A blow job here – sex in the backseat there. I felt like a used rag by the time the last guy crossed the California border. He dropped me off outside a gas station once he got what he wanted, dust spinning as he tore back onto the road. It was early morning – probably close to three in the morning – and there wasn’t a soul in sight. This wasn’t our agreement – he was supposed to take me to San Francisco – telling me that’s where he was headed.
I stood under the flickering streetlamp – my heart pounding as different sounds could be heard in the distance. Mostly animals but your fear heightens when it’s pitch-black outside. I didn’t know whether to just wait it out and see if I could hitch another ride when the station opens or start walking now. It was likely impossible that someone would be on the roads this late – especially in an area such as this.
“Fuck.” I blew out a sigh, picking up my suitcase.
My sandals had broken several states back – my feet raw from working the pavement and rocky surface. I couldn’t see a foot in front of me, but I didn’t feel comfortable waiting until daylight. As I walked, the thought of if this was worth it kept popping into my mind. The people on the evening news made this look easy – full of peace and love. Granted, there was a group hitchhiking together, but even then, it wouldn’t be a walk in the park. Besides Groovy Bill and the older couple who picked me up at the start of all of this, I witnessed the hold that a man could have on a woman in need. They were willing to help if they got a kickback in the end. Sex was the only thing I could offer, and I wasn’t proud of that. They got off and I got dropped off.
I lasted another 30 minutes before collapsing in a field adjacent to the highway. I couldn’t go on any further – my legs quivering underneath me. A content sigh slipped past my lips as the cool grass cushioned my aching body. Sleep had been a distant friend since my journey started – my body staying awake to stay vigilant. I was desperate for rest – even if that meant sleeping on the side of the road. My mind finally took over – my eyes fluttering shut as my body relaxed.
This wouldn’t be the last time I pass out on the side of the road.
The sky was still dark when the rumbling of engines startled me awake. I moved to a sitting position as the group of headlights drew closer – my heart beating wildly in my chest at the unknown. A part of me hoped that the dusky scene would keep me hidden – but the other hoped that they would sweep me away from the misery I had created.
Backfire
Three Thanksgivings in the lives of the Hotchner family.
-x-
Hi friends, this is the third and final (for now) part of my Thanksgiving fic Backfire.
This got a little sadder than I initially intended, but I don't think that will surprise anyone.
This week has been...rough. But as ever I am grateful for this community and the distraction it provides from real life <3
-x-
Words: 3.7k
Warnings: Grief/Loss of a parent
Read over on Ao3, or below the cut
Somewhere along the way, Thanksgiving had become her least favourite holiday.
She’d felt the tension it brought the moment she woke up, torn from sleep by her hungry one-month-old, the baby girl demanding her attention almost constantly. Eliza was a clingier baby than Zachary had ever been, something that Emily would have once called impossible, and she was exhausted.
She yawns as she lays Eliza down on the changing table, a smile flitting across her face at the sight of the outfit, that had been bought by Penelope, that she was about to dress her daughter in. The swirling writing and cartoon turkey on the onesie so cute it made her ache.
Mommy & Daddy’s Little Turkey.
“You’re going to hate me when I show you these pictures in about 14 years, sweet girl,” she says as she picks up the outfit, rubbing the soft material between her fingers, “But you’re going to look so damn cute I don’t care.” She feels a rush of love sweep through her as she slips Eliza’s arms into the onesie, her heart aching at how cute her daughter looks. She picks her up and rests her against her chest, “You are the fucking cutest baby on the whole planet.”
“Don’t curse in front of the baby.”
She turns to look at her husband and smiles, rolling her eyes at him before she adjusts her hold on Eliza so he can see her outfit, “Am I wrong?”
He chuckles as he walks over, his hand on Emily’s lower back as he leans in to kiss her. He then stamps a kiss against Eliza’s head before he pulls back to look at them.
“I stand corrected, she is the fucking cutest.”
Emily mock gasps, “Don’t curse in front of the baby.”
Aaron shakes his head at his wife, but his response is cut off as the doorbell rings, quickly followed by Jack’s voice, the 11-year-old’s excitement clear.
“Mom, Dad, Aunt Jessie and Grandpa are here!”
She hears two sets of feet thundering down the hallway downstairs, Zachary always on the heels of his older brother, the 4-year-old always copying his every move.
Aaron feels Emily tense in his arms, her shoulders tight as she holds Eliza impossibly closer. He kisses her forehead and cups her cheek to make him look up at her.
“Remember sweetheart, we don’t have to do this. We can just send him home.”
She found Thanksgiving challenging when she was at her best, something that she definitely did not currently feel. It was the only holiday when they got together with Roy, who still tried to undermine her or make comments towards Aaron at every opportunity. Emily hated it, the tension the man brought into her home enough to make her skin crawl, but she put up with it. Her love for Jack and her desire for him to be happy and surrounded by family who loved him far outweighing her own dislike for a man who made a point of being actively rude to her husband.
Aaron had checked more than once if she still wanted to go ahead with Thanksgiving as planned. He’d even asked her that morning, his arm around her shoulder as she fed Eliza whilst it was still dark outside, a serious look in his eyes as he said he’d uninvite Roy at any time, right up to the moment he stepped foot on the porch. She’d insisted she was fine, that she wanted things to be as normal as they possibly could, but as she watches the clock tick closer to the time Jess was supposed to arrive with Roy, she wonders if she had made the right decision.
Not only was Emily only a month post-partum and still getting used to having a newborn again, the four years since she’d done all of this with Zachary feeling like both a lifetime and a blur all at once, but it was the first holiday since her mother had died.
Emily was working when it happened. Regulated to the office at almost 8 months pregnant, her bump pressed against her desk as she looked over paperwork she was struggling to focus on. Her phone screen lit up with an unknown number, and dread she still didn’t understand flooded her veins. Her instincts that something was wrong kicking in before she even answered the call and listened as a stranger whose voice she’d never forget told her that Elizabeth was critically ill.
Aaron had been away on a case at the time, something she knew he still felt guilty about as if him being at home would have changed anything. He’d flown back to her as soon as he could, putting her and their family above his job, a lesson he’d learnt the hard way with spilt blood and tears. He’d held her hand as she made the decision to take her mother off life support, the roll of her baby girl in her stomach feeling displaced against the repetitive beeps of the machines around them, and her mother’s cold hand.
Emily wondered if things would feel different if her relationship with her mother had been a good one. If they’d had the type of relationship she knew she had with her children whether she’d feel different. Grief was complicated, she knew that, it wasn’t linear or easy. But she sometimes thought her chest wouldn’t feel like it was hollowed out if she had more good memories of her mother to fall back on, if all of her favourite moments with her hadn’t all happened since she’d become a mother herself. Elizabeth may never have been the mother Emily wanted or deserved, but she was an excellent grandmother.
On some level, she was jealous of the relationship the boys had with Elizabeth, an emotion that made her feel so guilty it made her feel sick. She wished that she could miss her like Jack and Zachary did. They had no complication in their grief, no caveats. They just missed her.
Emily was angry. Furious that her mother had been capable of being the person she’d needed all along, and sad that Elizabeth had never chosen to be like that for her. She missed both who her mother was and who she could have been, the old adage that ‘two things can be right at once’ as infuriating as it was correct.
She sighs as she shakes her head, “No, we can’t send him home, honey. He’s Jack’s grandfather, it’s Thanksgiving,” she turns her head to kiss his palm, “We can’t send him home. Plus, that would mean Jess would have to leave too and I love spending time with her, and so do the boys. And she cooked the turkey this year so we’d have no food.”
He smiles at her and leans in to kiss her softly. He knew that she was making the decision she thought was right for everyone other than herself, her own comfort was always her last priority. He doesn’t want to argue with her though, and doesn’t want to push her when he knows she’s already more delicate than usual, something she wouldn’t thank him for pointing out. So he steps away.
“I’ll go let them in,” he says, his smile so loving it warms her from the inside out, “You come down when you’re ready.”
She nods and smiles gratefully, turning all of her attention back to Eliza the moment they are alone. She smiles at her little girl.
It may be her first holiday without her mother, but it was also her first with her daughter and she wanted to enjoy it as much as she could.
“Come on Eliza,” she says, kissing her temple, “Let’s go see the grumpiest man to ever exist,” she pauses, smiling to herself as she kisses her daughter again, “And before you ask,” she says as she starts to walk out of the nursery, “I don’t mean Daddy.”
___
“That was the best Thanksgiving meal I’ve eaten in years,” Roy says as he sets his knife and fork down on his plate, turning his attention to Jessica, “That was delicious, Jess.”
“It was so good Aunt Jessie,” Zachary says, smiling as he sinks back into his chair, making his parents laugh as he rubs his belly, something he’d clearly picked up on someone else doing.
“Thanks, Zach,” she says, smiling at the young boy she considered her nephew just as much as Jack before she turns to Roy, “And thanks Dad, I’ve never cooked a whole turkey before so it was quite the learning curve.”
Aaron smiles as he puts his arm around the back of Emily’s chair, taking a quick peak at Eliza who was fast asleep against her mother’s chest, “We really appreciate you cooking, Jess,” he says, “I don’t think we could have managed it.”
“Oh don’t worry,” she replies, “You have a new baby and have to chase my nephews around, I can handle doing the cooking.”
Roy mutters something under his breath, but Emily doesn’t quite catch it because Eliza starts to cry, the brief reprieve she’d given them so Emily could eat, all be it one-handed whilst she held her daughter, is already over.
“Oh sweetheart,” she says, already moving to stand up so she pace, the movement one of the few things that soothed her, “You’re okay.”
Jack stands up too, beating Aaron to it, as he offers help, always keen to be the best big brother he could be, “Do you need me to go get one of her pacifiers, Mom?”
She sees a flash of something across Roy’s face. It’s an echo of a moment a few years ago when it was Zachary’s first Thanksgiving, his tiny face covered in mashed potato as she tried to wipe him clean, and Jack’s innocent comment aimed at his younger brother, the name Momma slipping past his lips without real meaning. He’d still called her Emily back then, the use of the moniker for his little brother’s benefit more than anything, the then baby on the brink of saying his first word.
Jack had switched to calling her Mom a year ago. It felt like it had happened overnight, something that felt natural and wonderful all at once. He still called her Emily in front of Roy, something she knew he did to prevent his grandfather from getting upset, all of the comments he’d made over the years always lingering in the back of his mind. The empathy her eldest was capable of never failed to blow her away, his kindness so much a part of him that she sometimes worried one day it would be something that people would take advantage of. It’s a slip-up Jack doesn’t even seem aware of, his smile soft as he looks at her.
She looks back at Roy, and watches as Jessica stares at her father, a fierce look in her eyes that has almost no effect.
“That would be lovely, Jack,” Emily says, turning her attention back to her eldest son, wanting him out of the room before anything was said, “The clean ones are in the kitchen,” she says, and Jack nods before he runs out of the room. Emily looks at Zachary. Usually, the frown on his face, the one that made him look identical to Aaron, would make her smile, but it makes her chest get tight, the thought that her son was picking up on the tension in the room enough to make her cry, “Zach-”
Her attempt to get him out of the room, to distract him by suggesting he go to the den and played with his toys, is cut off by Roy.
“What did he call you? He asks, his jaw tight as he glares at her, and any usual defiance she has against the man is nowhere to be found, the crying of her baby in her arms, the absence of her mother and the usual jibes she’d throw at the man, setting her on edge. “How many times do I have to remind you that you’re not his mother?”
It was something that had come up time and time again over the years. Roy’s desire to keep his daughter's memory alive so misguided he didn’t realise he was going against what she’d wanted - for her son to have exactly what he had now.
“Roy,” Aaron starts, his protective instincts kicking in, but he isn’t given the chance when Emily cuts over him
“You know what, Roy,” Emily says, shaking her head at him, a sound somewhere between a laugh and a sob catching in her chest, “I don’t have the energy for this. I need to go feed my baby,” she softens when she smiles at Zachary, “Want to come with me to go feed your sister?”
Zach nods, slipping out of his chair and walking over to his mother, avoiding eye contact with everyone else as he reaches her side. Emily adjusts her hold on Eliza to make sure she’s secure against her with one arm and she reaches down to hold Zachary’s hand. She leads him out of the room and she doesn’t look back.
Aaron wants to follow her, but he knows she wouldn’t want him to, instead, he folds his hands together in his lap and looks at his ex-father-in-law, anger he hasn’t let himself feel in years bubbling in his stomach.
“You couldn’t just leave it alone this year?” Aaron asks, his eyes stern as he stares at Roy, “She lost her mother a couple of months ago.”
“How long has Jack been calling her mom?” Roy asks as if Aaron hasn’t spoken, staring him down. It reminds Aaron of when he was a teenager and accidentally got Haley home after her curfew, the traffic on the way back from the concert they had been to worse than he’d anticipated. Roy was furious, yelling at Aaron for making his daughter late, for making him worry about her, and Aaron had promised it would never happen again, and that he’d always keep Haley safe.
It was a promise he’d broken without meaning to, the shattered pieces of his already tenuous relationship with his once father-in-law destroyed beyond repair.
“For a long time, Dad,” Jessica answers, sighing as Roy turns to look at her, “He’s called Emily his Mom for over a year.”
Roy frowns at his daughter, “You knew?”
She scoffs, “Of course I did,” she says, shaking her head, “I babysit all the kids, I love them all. And unlike you, I can see past my own grief over Haley to see how happy Jack is.”
Aaron smiles gratefully at Jessica and then he sighs as he turns back to Roy, “I know it’s difficult for you. But Jack came to this decision himself, he also wanted to make sure he did his best not to call Emily ‘Mom’ in front of you so he didn’t upset you.”
Roy all but growls, his frustration clear, “She is not his-”
“She is my mom.”
They all turn to look at Jack, the pre-teen standing in the doorway with a pacifier in his hand, his grip on it tight. Aaron stands and steps towards his son.
“Jack-”
“Mom was my mom too,” he says, cutting off his father as he crosses his arms over his chest, “But so is she,” he adds, pointing towards the stairs, “I don’t remember Mom, Grandad,” Jack says, shrugging his shoulders, “I miss her but the only things I know are what you and Dad and Aunt Jess tell me. Emily…Mom is the one I remember. She’s looked after me and she loves me. And that’s what a mom does,” he frowns, seemingly unable to stop now he’s started, the words he’d wanted to say since he was too young to understand them spilling out, “And you have to be nice to her, and to Dad, and to my brother and sister or I don’t want to see you anymore.”
His words settle around them and Roy sighs, “Jack, I’m just trying to make sure no one forgets your mother.”
“But no one has,” he says, furrowing his brow, looking so much like Haley that it makes the three adults in the room ache, “Dad is always telling me about her and you are. And even Mom does even though she only met her a couple of times,” he adds, watching as shock washes over his grandfathers face and he sighs, feeling some of the anger in his chest go away, “She asks Aunt Jess and Dad for stories so she can talk to me about her too.”
Roy looks at Jessica who nods, her lips pressed together, “It’s true.”
He sighs as he shakes his head, “I’m sorry,” he says as he looks at his grandson, “I didn’t know.”
“You never asked,” Aaron says firmly and Roy nods, clearing his throat as he avoids eye contact. Aaron looks at Jack and smiles at him, “Why don’t you go find everyone else? They’re probably in the nursery.”
Jack hesitates for a moment, but he nods, turning and leaving the room as quickly as he’d entered it. Aaron looks over at Roy and sighs, his hands on his hips as he looks him up and down. He’d always allowed his anger when it was aimed towards him, partially because it felt like a punishment he deserved. A penance for failing Haley and by extension Roy, But he also allowed it because he knew Roy was grieving, that he’d lost his daughter in a horrific way.
It didn’t take an FBI profiler to realise he was overcompensating to make sure he didn’t lose anyone else, his anger and his short temper were side effects of so desperately trying to cling on to what he had left of his daughter.
Her memory and her son.
“Look, Roy,” Aaron says carefully, “I can’t imagine how difficult it is, and I know we don’t particularly like each other,” he looks over at Jessica who smothers a chuckle with a fake cough, her eyes on the ceiling as she avoids looking at him, “But we both loved Haley, and we both love Jack. Surely the fact he’s happy, which is what she wanted, should be enough.”
Roy is quiet for a moment before he stands up, blowing out a steady breath as he nods slowly, “You’re right,” he says, clearing his throat, “It should be. And I’ll try to make sure it is going forward.”
Aaron smiles and relaxes a little, some of the tension in his shoulders finally easing, “Thank you.”
Jessica laughs again and shakes her head at herself when both men look at her, their eyebrows furrowed, “I’m so sorry,” she says, clearing her throat, “It’s just…wherever Haley and Elizabeth are right now, I know they would have got such a kick out of Jack telling you off, Dad.”
___
Aaron sighs as he closes the door behind Roy and Jess, briefly leaning his head against it before he makes sure the locks are in place.
“Long day, huh?”
He turns to look at his wife and smiles at her, opening his arms for her to slip into his embrace, “Long day,” he repeats, kissing the top of her head, “Where are the kids?”
“Eliza is sleeping, and Jack is reading Zach a book,” she says, smiling up at him, “So we might have 5 whole uninterrupted minutes to ourselves,” she says with enthusiasm as if she was talking about a lottery win or a luxury cruise, “Want to snuggle until someone needs us for something?”
“With you? Always,” he says, cupping her cheek and leaning in to kiss her before he leads her to the living room. They sit on the couch together and she settles into his side, breathing him in and letting his comfort wash over her, “You ok, sweetheart?”
She shrugs, because she’s really not sure how to answer the question, “I guess. I don’t know. She would have loved watching Jack tell Roy off.”
He chuckles, “Jess said the same thing,” he tilts his head to look at her, “You heard everything?”
She nods, her smile turning sad, “It was sweet. Zach heard too, and he asked me if it meant Jack was his real brother,” she says, her heart aching when Aaron sighs, his eyes closing as he shakes his head, “But I reminded him about Haley, how she was Jack’s first mom. He understands it all as best as he can.”
“I wish it was simpler sometimes,” Aaron says as he opens his eyes to look at her.
“I know,” she replies, reaching up and pushing his hair out of his eyes, “But if it was simpler, it wouldn’t be our family.” There’s a cry from upstairs and Emily groans, leaning forward to press her forehead into Aaron’s chest. “That girl is relentless.”
“Wonder where she got that from,” Aaron mutters and Emily pulls back to look at him, her eyes narrowed.
“What did you say?”
“I said, you stay here, I’ll go get her,” he says quickly, kissing her forehead and standing up.
She shakes her head at him as he leaves the room and sinks back onto the couch. She sighs as she looks around the room, her gaze locking on a picture from when Zachary was a baby that is framed and on the coffee table. In it, Elizabeth is sitting down with Jack on her left and Emily on her right, and a tiny little Zachary in her arms.
Emily picks it up and she traces her finger over the edge of it, smiling sadly at her own reflection that she can partially see in the glass. She looks at her mother, at the joy in her eyes, the happiness she would have once joked the woman was incapable of and she chuckles, her vision going blurry as tears gather in her eyes. When she speaks, it’s quiet, a secret just between herself and someone she isn’t even entirely sure is watching.
“Happy Thanksgiving, Mom.”
Hanahaki Bowuigi
Tehe I'm back 💋
HEAR ME OUT OKAY! You might think that oh yeah because Luigi is timid he'd be our poor victim, BUT OH CONTRAIRE LITTLE BISCUIT TIS BOWSER WITH THINE FLEUR DE BLOOD!
Due to Bowsers pride and natural aversion towards soft emotions he doesn't even realize that shit until Kammy or Kamek points it out to him. Kammy is trying to give him advice and Kamek only gives him sass™ further pushing him away from acting.
After a while of being partnered with Luigi out of nowhere and on rare occasions they get used to one another and even cheer for each other even if they aren't on the same team. It's a comfortable friendship and Bowser likes this new side he sees of him.
Eventually they become so comfortable Bowser invites Luigi on vacation with his family to a Cheep Cheep Island he owns. Junior loves him as his playmate instantly. Wendy bonds with him over their mutual love if dresses and encourages her to become a fashion designer and make a gun dress, on accident. Morton and Roy both like him because he can cook and helps them out with their lady issues.
Ludwig doesn't like Weeg for a while because he thinks he's a spy or something and thinks he'll try to break up their family. Iggy is almost in the same boat until he realizes that he wouldn't hurt anyone and poses no real threat it helps that he shows an interest in his inventions.
Larry is on the fence at first because he loves Wendy and Ludwig very much and values their opinion but he eventually decides he likes Weeg after joining in on their food fight. Lemmy is in the same boat as Larry, but quicker because Lu helps him calm down one of his brothers after a prank goes awry.
Seeing all this changes something in Bowser. He becomes more... feral. He becomes more protective of what his instincts consider his mate. He does his best to keep it at bay as to not scare Luigi. The longer this goes on the more he considers the surgery to remove his feelings entirely, he needs to take care of his children and he can still take care of them even if he won't feel love for them anymore.
Kamek and Kammy notice amidst their insistent bickering. They decide to be as subtle as a tank engine to persuade him to finally tell Weej and after much resistance he promises he will because the great king Bowser fears nothing!
Overtime Luigi notices how standoffish and strained Bowser seems now, even if he's more protective and hovering nearby more often than not. For a time he chooses not to say anything until he notices the cough.
Bowser had been holding back for a while before the flowers started to bloom in his chest. What was worse was that they were also growing through his shell. Scarlet Carnations filled both his waking thoughts and resting mind. It would take him hours of furious yanking to finally look normal again. Until he misses one
Luigi immediately asks him who is it. Who is it that couldn't love him? Bowser eventually spills while Luigi breaks down in front of him. Luigi doesn't get a word out before Bowser leaves acting rashly, thinking he made him feel so bad that he didn't feel the same he leaves to go through with the surgery.
Luigi tells Mario and Peach, they're married, of course the kids overhear and they know where to go and they go quickly to stop the surgery after Bowsers already been put under.
Bowser wakes up in his bed and he can still feel and Luigi yells at him about his actions and how they would have effected everyone especially the kids. Luigi finally gets to the part where it would affect him. He says he would miss him and heartbroken. He confesses his feelings for him and shows his own flowers to Bowser, they had only just started and thus begins the rest of their lives together. ❤️
Background stuffs
Bowser coerced the doctors into doing the surgery that quickly that's how he could do it so fast.
They have raging... Smut after also the older kids are happy ab this they had bets going
Kammy and Kamek are basically Bowsers parents in this.
Luigi becomes king along side Bowser and the koopas are pretty pleased with the change of treatment going forward. Everything's good ❤️
vote in my poll boy but also im gonna skew my own results by giving my opinion. here’s my personal ranking of rose writers
sean mckeever: FRESH HELL <3 literally THE rose book. also tt03 #57 slayed. he ALMOST gets knocked down on the list because a) the fucking shitshow that was terror titans and b) he backtracked on like 3 different character arcs as soon as he started writing tt and it pisses me off. but he redeemed himself with fresh hell
geoff johns: i hate johns so much. but he solidified sooo much about rose as a character that he has pretty much the definitive rose. what he did completely defined rose's relationship with her father and her attitude towards the titans/being a hero in general. whether they realize it or not, every rose writer after johns is writing his version of her. as much as i hate him he is one of the best rose writers and i will stand by that
christopher priest: i have not made it a secret that i love ds16. there are some aspects of his characterization that i dont agree with but for the most part he killed it tbh. hating her dad but still coming back to him, loving her brother but still keeping him at arms length, HOSUN!!! HER HMONG FAMILY!!!!!!! ily priest
ed brisson: SLAY. the only reason he's not higher is because i dont like the fact in general that she chose to be on stormwatch (she would not do that), and he used baby rose in ktr and didnt even mention lili (and DID mention that foster family. im still mad). other than that!!! everything about her struggle to be a good person in batb was soooo good, and so much about ktr was so good for her <3 thank u mr brisson
marv wolfman: i feel a little bad not ranking him higher given that. he created rose. but she doesnt really do much in the issues he writes. which is fair given that she was a new character that was just made to hang around on the sidelines at the time, so theres not a lot to judge in his writing. but he definitely laid the foundation that johns expanded on, and he was the one that made her so uh thnx marv
jt krul: i wish he had gotten more time :( i wish he had gotten to do whatever he was planning with lili, i wish we could've gotten to see more of his rose. his rose was def a different take than before given that she was more... mellowed out ig? it was a lot more lighthearted, just her hanging out with the team, being an older sister to damian (<3), and looking for her mom. hes not my fav just because i like it when shes a crazy bitch instead of a normal girl, but i completely understand why people like his rose. not to mention tt03 #77-78 slays so unbelievably hard
jay faerber: NANNY ROSE <33333 i love love love rose in titans 99 <3 this version of rose is DRASTICALLY different than any other rose, which is the reason hes in the bottom half, but i like it in the sense that its nice to know that she was just hanging out in between the two worst things to ever happen to her (her mom dying & slade drugging her). rose with roy and lian lives rent free in my head every single day of my life i love it so much, also that issue with rose & toni was so fun. titans 99 rose you will always be famous
adam beechen: he is going to hell for what he did to cass but for rose? he was fine. he helped with that one really good wilson family arc (tt03 #43-46), and wrote the only pre-52 rose & jason interaction (#47) so he gets points for that. and batgirl 2008 was pretty good for rose. but unfortunately he just didnt make enough of an impact on me to be ranked any higher
matthew rosenberg: unfortunately im mentally ill so i have a detailed explanation of what i think of rosenberg's rose but the short version is: i like him, he writes a good rose. its fun, shes well-written for the most part, but there are some :/ parts about it to me. i think if he continues writing her he'd be ranked higher but for now hes sitting pretty near the bottom of the list
devin grayson: i used to really like devin grayson's rose but. i have since changed my mind. it doesnt feel like rose. this is NOT the rose that stabbed her eye out because she thought slade was disappointed in her! shes too Quirky Girl here even though this is theoretically during the period where shes being drugged (honestly. i dont think grayson actually knew about the super soldier serum. and if she did it does not show) and we've seen rose in this era in tt03 and bg00, and this arc does not read as the same character at all. it was a good arc for her, and she had a lot of good moments here! but the characterization overall wasnt great
joshua williamson: i won't go on a whole tangent about the way williamson writes but. he has no sense of character voice, his characters all feel like blank slates to get the plot across, there are no character decisions being made besides what's needed for the plot. theres not a lot that i can put my finger on and say that its bad, but there are so few choices being made that its hard to say anything about his rose. to put a completely different character in rose's place in robin 2021, all you'd have to do is switch a few words around. williamson uses a vague idea of who a character is to guide what he wants them to do, and all his characters come out shallow. his rose wasnt BAD but it wasnt good at all
scott lobdell: every day i blow on a dandelion and wish for scott lobdell to kill himself
ROY: checkign in. how’s it goin
HELEN: Bart, I want you to call me when you get some time. I’m worried about you.
TIM: What do you mean you’ve seen the Alabama White Thang???
JOAN: Are you okay, sweetheart?
PRESTON: who is the mystery guy???
CAROL: As your friend, ily but what the hell is a protein freakshake??? Bart, I’ll kill you
JAY: Bart, what is tfw? Judy keeps sending me tfw’s but none of the pictures go together
CONNER: are you ok? do you want me to order you a pizza?
LINDA: Hey, bug. Just wanted you to know I love and miss you so much! Give me a call and lmk when I can kick your ass on MK
GRANDPA: Goodnight, Bart. I love you so so much. I had the loveliest conversation with your brother, Owen. He seems like a nice kid.
CONNER: super worried about you, omw rn
JUDY: Mom’s a little worried about you. Everything ok?
TIM: Hey, do you mind if I come over next Thursday?
THAD: Is it okay to text you?
Bart called Thad first. Thad answered immediately. “Good morning,” Thad answered.
“Good morning… Hey, are you okay? Everyone’s going kind of nuts, huh?” Bart asked.
“Yeah… I’m okay, though. I didn’t know him. Is it strange to feel detached from it all?” Thad questioned in reply. Bart sat up and played with Conner’s hair, keeping him asleep.
“No… I get it. Do you know I love you?” Bart asked.
“I—. I like to hear it. I love you, too… But um—. Why’d you call me this morning? Is something wrong?” Thad asked. Bart paused and tried to think of something to say.
“In the observatory… Do you ever remember seeing cameras?” Bart asked in Interlac.
“No… But I’m sure there were cameras. Did they make the lights pulse to change your mood?” Thad asked. Bart tried to think about it, but he didn’t remember anything like that.
“No… I remember sometimes it used to be dark… They’d blindfold me and put these headphones over my ears and—. I think I—. I don’t remember how long they’d do that, but I remember they used to tell me how unsafe the other side of the door was… And they used to leave it cracked after. I used to beg them to shut the door,” Bart explained. Neither of them were emotional when discussing the observatory. Bart couldn’t even be moved to be angry at that moment.
“Why are you thinking about the observatory? Did Grandpa Thawne—?”
“No. He hasn’t sent anyone to bring us back. You don’t have to worry about that anymore. Okay? I—. I’m not gonna let anyone take you away ever again. Okay?” Bart reassured him. His heart pumped, almost frightening him. He felt so alive and so intensely passionate about everything. “And you can text me anytime you want. I want you to visit me as soon as you can. You can sleep in my room. I’ll give you a tour of the school. Okay?”
“Okay,” Thad answered, “Aunt Helen wants to speak to you.”
“Okay. Give Aunt Helen the phone,” Bart gently commanded.
“Bart, are you alright? I called you twice last night—.”
“I’m sorry. I didn’t feel well, so I went to sleep… And when I woke up, Conner was on his way over, so I didn’t have a lot of time to—.” Bart took a breath. “I’m okay now. You don’t have to worry about me, Helen.”
“Don’t I, though? Bart, I always worry about you. I worry because I love you,” Helen replied.
“I appreciate it… But I promise I’m fine. I’m not upset at all,” Bart answered honestly, “Actually, I’m doing really well.” Conner stirred beside him, smiling into Bart’s leg.
“You’ll call me if things start getting bad… Won’t you?” Helen asked.
Bart made a soft noise. “Sure, Helen,” Bart replied. A lie. “Hey, I’ve gotta go.”
“Okay… Be good,” Helen half-joked.
“I’ll try,” Bart answered before hanging up. “Good morning, sleepyhead.” Bart set his phone aside and rubbed Conner’s back. Conner hummed sweetly.
“Good morning,” Conner smiled, “Do you wanna brush your teeth with me?”
Bart chuckled and nodded. “Do you need a toothbrush?” Bart asked. Conner nodded.
**
After they brushed their teeth, Bart and Conner crept back to Bart’s room. “You’re in a good mood,” Conner whispered as Bart shut the curtains. He gave Conner one of his wireless earbuds and he wore the other one. Bart climbed up the foot of the bed, kissing his way up Conner’s legs until he kissed the front of Conner’s shorts. Conner instinctively lifted his knee, and Bart patted his leg. “Come up here… I wanted to try something, but I’m not sure if you’d be—.”
Bart sat cross legged. “What is it?” Bart asked.
“Well… I kind of—. It’s a weird mixture of kinks, but I—.”
“Conner, I’m not gonna laugh at you. I promise,” Bart replied.
“You know how I kind of like you to get a little rough? Well, I wanted to see how that worked with a little praise,” Conner explained while he wrung his hands. Bart sat on Conner’s lap and kissed Conner, parting his lips as his fingers caught in Conner’s curls. Bart pulled back, half out of breath, grinning with an open mouth.
“If you wanted me to tell you how good you were, all you had to do was ask. I could go on and on about you for hours,” Bart whispered.
“Oh, really? Name one thing you like about me,” Conner teased.
Bart gave Conner’s hair a little tug, and he felt Conner’s hard-on twitch beneath him. Bart bored down, grinding into it. Then, he leaned in for a kiss only to yank his hair a little harder. Conner moaned and in a panic, he held a finger to Bart’s lips. “I like the way you can’t help but moan when I pull your hair. I think about that a lot. And I think about those pretty lips of yours so much I see them in my dreams,” Bart whispered as he thumbed Conner’s bottom lip. Conner advanced forward for a kiss, and Bart backed away, giggling as he teased him. He climbed off of Conner’s lap and dropped his shorts while he looked for a towel and a condom. Stroking his dick with one hand as he scratched his head with the other.
“What are you looking for?” Conner asked.
“A rubber,” Bart answered as he grabbed a towel. Conner looked in the bedside drawer and pulled out a box of condoms and a bottle of cooling lubricant. Bart smiled looking at Conner bent over as he dug through the drawer. He climbed on the bed, creeping closer and closer until he was close enough to slap him on the ass. Conner jumped, and Bart pulled him back on the bed. Bart fell into a fit of laughter. “Boing!”
“You’re so stupid,” Conner laughed as he lay in Bart’s lap.
“I want you so bad,” Bart replied. Conner leaned forward to get the lube and condoms before Bart wrapped an arm around his waist, gently humping him, rubbing his dick against the thin fabric of Conner’s boxers.
“You’re gonna chafe,” Conner giggled. Bart kissed the back of Conner’s neck, almost growling in his ear.
“You better take your pants down then,” Bart whispered. Conner’s face went flush, and he clutched the front of his shorts. He took a breath and gave Bart the lube and condom from his drawer. “Is this too much?”
“No,” Conner answered as he pulled his boxers down in the back. Bart took a pillow and threw the towel over it.
“Are you comfortable like this?” Bart asked. He softened in his demeanor for a moment as he felt along the line of Conner’s right thigh.
“I’m good,” Conner answered. Bart gave him a comforting pat on the ass as he slipped the condom on and rubbed his dick up and down against Conner’s hole. He jumped when Bart squirted the cooling lube on his ass. “Oh, fuck.”
“Is it too cold?” Bart asked as he slipped the tip in. Conner shook his head, cocking it as he felt it cool his insides.
“No, I think I like it,” Conner replied. Bart pushed in all the way and stayed in place for a moment, giving Conner a  moment to get accustomed to the feeling. “Oh.” One pump. Slow and gentle. Two… Three. A little faster. The faster the thrusts the more noise Conner made.
Bart slowed down and pulled Conner’s hair before leaning down to whisper, “You’re gonna wake Cassie and Cissie.” Conner bit his lip as Bart pulled out.
“Why’d you—?”
Bart patted his back. “I wanna look at you,” Bart whispered.
**
Conner lay on his stomach while Bart lay beside him, rubbing the raven-haired boy’s back. “Are you comfortable?” Bart asked. Conner threw an arm over Bart’s lap.
“Mhm,” Conner hummed. Bart took a sip of water and nudged Conner to offer him a drink. “No, thanks. I’m good here.”
Bart had so much energy, but he didn’t know what to do with it once Conner settled in. He tossed and turned so much that Conner had to touch his arm. “Hey… Do you wanna kiss for a little bit?” Conner asked. Bart nodded. “You’re so cute. Come here.”
Bart leaned close, and Conner turned on his side, offering a few lazy kisses. His lips never completely parted with Bart’s in between kisses, but it was enough to keep Bart in a perfectly serene state of mind. “I love you,” Bart whispered, “God, I love you so much.” Conner shushed him.
“I love you too, but we’ve gotta take a breather,” Conner explained. He parted Bart’s bangs with his finger. “Let’s just kiss… Okay?” Bart looked into Conner’s eyes and nodded. They leaned in for another kiss before they were interrupted.
“Cissie wants to know if—. Jesus Christ!” Cassie screamed before turning her back.
Conner pulled the blanket over both of them and laughed into Bart’s shoulder out of embarrassment. “Get out! Get the hell out of here!” Bart shouted in Interlac. Cassie stepped outside and shut the door. He nearly jumped out of bed Conner’s smile faded, and he patted Bart’s chest, bringing him back to the present.
“Hey, she didn’t mean anything by it,” Conner whispered as he kissed Bart’s neck. “It’s alright.” Bart leaned forward and shut his eyes. “Bart?”
His hands shook as he struggled to distinguish between the past and present. He couldn’t stop thinking about the pictures in the file. Everyone must’ve seen it. The reality of being constantly monitored for twelve years weighed on him. “I’m sorry… I should go apologize,” Bart whispered. Conner grabbed his arm.
“Let’s talk first. That was scary… What happened?” Conner asked.
Bart chewed his lip. “I don’t know if I can tell you right now… But I—.”
“Bart, if it’s something you don’t want anyone to know—. I won’t tell. It’ll be between us two. I just—. Bart, I want to know what that was about… Because that seemed like it came from somewhere else. I think it’s worth talking about,” Conner whispered. Bart nodded.
“Not now… But we’ll talk soon. I promise,” Bart replied as he climbed out of bed and dug through his closet. He grabbed a pair of overalls and tossed them on the foot of the bed before slipping a pair of boxers on.
“Where are you going?” Conner asked.
“I’m gonna apologize,” Bart replied, “And then I’ll take a shower… If you want to come.”
“Okay… I’ll be there in a minute,” Conner answered, “Bart… Are you okay?”
“Yeah,” Bart lied with a smile on his face as he put his pajamas on and carried his clothes out of the room with him.
“Hey, Cassie? I—. I shouldn’t have yelled,” Bart replied, “I was more embarrassed than anything. I’m sorry.” Cassie couldn’t look him in the eye.
“I’m sorry, too. I shouldn’t have flipped out like—. How long has that been going on?” Cassie asked.
“Not long… What were you asking?” Bart questioned, quickly changing the subject.
“Oh, we’re going to the beach. Do you wanna come?” Cassie asked. Bart smiled and nodded.
“Yeah… I’d love to. I’ll ask Conner in a—.”
Conner came out of the room, holding his clothes. “I packed swim trunks. Are you gonna get in the water this time, Bart?” Conner asked, draping an arm over Bart’s shoulder.
**
Conner took Bart’s hand and led him toward the water, and Bart’s mind drifted to the boat. So much sky. So much open space. Open water. Iris had to hold him down, wrapping her arms and legs around him to keep him safe and still. He would’ve done anything that night to return to the observatory. Bart dug his heels into the sand, and Conner stopped, nudging Bart’s face with his nose. “What’s the matter?” Conner asked.
“Sorry, I got distracted,” Bart replied.
“Do you not know how to swim?” Conner questioned.
Last summer. Bart stepped into the lake by the Kent farm and—. He dragged himself out of the water, crawling most of the way to the Kents’ property and limping toward the house until he got to Conner’s window. Conner wasn’t dressed. It started coming back, slowly focusing like a camera lens, capturing the moment. Conner was naked when he pulled Bart into the window. Why was Conner naked? Bart mumbled something. He kept mumbling something, and Conner couldn’t hear him. He wanted Conner to hear him. What was it? Why couldn’t he remember? “Why were you naked last summer when I came to your house?” Bart asked.
“What?” Conner questioned. He wasn’t angry or upset at the question, but it gave him pause. Conner turned to look at Cassie and Cissie, who were preoccupied, and he placed a gentle hand on Bart’s cheek.
“I limped to the window… I knocked… And you were naked. Why were you naked?” Bart asked. His voice felt a million miles away while he held onto the fragment of a memory.
“I was asleep… It was hot that night, and I didn’t expect you. You were visiting your grandparents and—. What’s wrong? Do you wanna walk and talk about it?” Conner asked. Bart nodded. “You were super upset, and you were mumbling nonsense. I helped you inside through my window, and you—. You said you wanted me to come with you, but you wouldn’t tell me where, and you didn’t move. I figured you were drunk.”
Conner kissed Bart’s forehead, but Bart was a million miles away. Bart was present mentally, but he couldn’t stop thinking about how good it felt to watch Jacob die. It did something to him. It gave Bart a feeling that he couldn’t attain with drugs or alcohol. Something about it excited Bart. It wasn’t everything, but it was a start. He checked back in, realizing Conner was still speaking, and he grabbed his face, cradling his cheeks in soft palms. “I want you,” Bart whispered.
Conner touched foreheads with Bart, smiling at the lift in Bart’s mood. “Will you settle for a kiss right now?” Conner asked. Bart leaned in, parting his lips as Conner caught him, pulling him in close. He brushed Conner’s cheek with his thumb as he pulled back for air, his tongue reaching out to meet Conner’s open mouth. Conner stopped, pulling back when he heard Cassie and Cissie hooting and wolf whistling at them. He reached behind Bart’s head, giving him a sweet scratch. “You okay?”
“I’m alright. Thanks for coming this weekend… And I know I’ve been weird, but I promise it’ll get better,” Bart reassured him. Conner smiled.
“You can be as weird as you want… As long as you’re happy,” Conner replied, “Come on, let’s get ice cream.”
“I thought you wanted to go swimming?” Bart teased.
**
Conner took a nap on the couch while Bart cooked dinner and called his grandparents. Iris answered first. “Hi, Bart. Are you alright?” Iris asked. “I’m sorry I called Conner, but I figured he’d be able to get you to talk.”
“Grandma, I’m okay. I called Thad this morning. Speaking of Thad… Have you talked to him lately? He wants to hear your voice… I know he does,” Bart whispered.
“I know… I’m about to hop on a plane to see him right now. That’s what I wanted to tell you,” Iris replied.
“You are?” Bart questioned.
“Yes. And you won’t tell him, young man. I’m trying to surprise him. I know I missed his birthday, so I’m taking your grandpa to Manchester to surprise him. Your grandpa’s so excited. He didn’t get any sleep last night. We’ve been planning this for months—.”
“Iris, look! I got you a giant pretzel,” Barry exclaimed on the other line.
“Honey, do you want to talk to Bart while I eat the giant pretzel?” Iris laughed.
Bart sliced some fresh oranges while he waited for Barry to take the phone. “Hi, Bart! How are we doing today?” Barry asked. We. Bart always found it funny when Barry said we for one person.
“I’m good… I’m making ribeye for dinner. Conner’s visiting,” Bart replied, “I heard you’re visiting Thad. Give him a hug for me. Okay?”
“I will. Wish I was there for some ribeye, though. That sounds good right about now. What are you making on the side?” Barry asked.
“Salad… And roasted potatoes. Potatoes are in the oven, but I’m about to put the ribeye in right now,” Bart replied. Something spoke over the loudspeaker on the other line.
“Sorry, we couldn’t chat longer. We gotta go. We love you so much,” Barry replied.
“Love you, Grandpa. Tell Grandma I lover her, too. Have a safe flight,” Bart smiled as he hung up. Cissie joined Bart in the kitchen and smiled at the spread.
“Is there anything you can’t do?” Cissie asked.
“Clean my room… Eat chives. Control how stupid I sound when I talk to Conner,” Bart listed off. Cissie smiled at him. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you about Conner and me… I just—. I wanted some time to enjoy it. It wasn’t a secret, I just—. I can’t explain it. I just know I’ve wanted this forever,” Bart whispered. Cissie looked up into his eyes.
“You don’t owe me an explanation. Besides, I kind of thought something was going on,” Cissie replied, “I’m happy that you’re in love. You’re one of my favorite people in the whole world, and I think you guys are good for each other.”
Rant i just sent to my friend:
I am so fucking insane about Riza FullmetalAlchemist like we been knew I am not normal about that woman but also I am watching the show with my dad rn and we are past the first hurtful Flashback episode, nearing the second and then the one my tattoo is from and I am !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! about Riza Hawkeye I am going to kill myself over riza hawkeye I am so insane over her like ?!?!?!
Like she's this kid this tiny kid and her father is an accomplished alchemist and he takes on an apprentice who's a few years older than her and kind of cute also they're both from messed up home situations
And then he leaves and her father gets sick but he finishes his research finally and it is so dangerous and it can kill millions so he TATTOOS IT ON HER BACK and he gives the power to pass it on to this SEVENTEEN YEAR OLD GIRL who is all alone in the world
And then the boy comes back and he has just joined the military and he is so idealistic about it he genuinely believes he's doing good and SHE IS SEVENTEEN AND ALL ALONE IN THE WORLD so she GIVES HIM HER FATHER'S RESEARCH and then he gets ordered to do a Genocide and he does it. Roy Mustang burns god knows how many people to death with the power SHE GAVE HIM. And even worse she believed him and now she's a sniper and a killer too and he will never forgive himself for this he will never forget that his idealism is what destroyed her too
So she asks him to destroy her tattoo to literally burn it off her back and he does and she promises to follow him to Hell and back if it means he will make the world a better place and he will make a system that will hold the two of them accountable and he makes her promise to shoot him should he ever deviate from that
AND THAT ALL HAPPENS TEN YEARS BEFORE THE SHOW EVEN STARTS
FOR TEN YEARS SHE LIVES IN THE CONVICTION THAT IF ROY DIES SHE WILL KILL HERSELF AND NEVER LET HER BODY BE FOUND BECAUSE HER
FATHER
BRANDED HER WITH ALCHEMICAL RESEARCH THAT HAS ALREADY KILLED GOD KNOWS HOW MANY PEOPLE
AND THAT'S NOT EVEN GETTING INTO THE THEMES OF FATHERHOOD THAT GO THROUGH THE ENTIRE SHOW OR THE
TWO OTHER CHILDHOOD
CHILDHOOD FRIENDS RELATIONSHIP THEIRS IS MIRRORD WITH OR THE ONE EPISODE WHERE SHE
LOADS SIX BULLETS INTO A REVOLVER
AND ONLY SHOOTS FIVE
CAUSE SHE THINKS ROY IS DEAD
40 EPISODES BEFORE HER SUICIDALITY EVER BECOMES RELEVANT AGAIN
riza hawkeye.
[3 hours later]
Ok I fell asleep but I am not done with this actually cause Roy?!?! has this whole philosophy of "If i protect the people I love and they protectect the people they love we will have a nice and compassionate society" and it is very clear to EVERYONE that at the top of the list for "people roy Mustang loves and wants to protect" is riza to the point where she gets taken hostage/almost killed over it TWICE but she herself does not see her life worthy of protection because of the things ROY DID
So when he almost dies she almost dies cause she's so distressed and he's mad at her about it and and that point the soft first time viewers think "oh she really likes her commanding officer" while I am already actively loosing it cause I know the next thing she was gonna do was either use her final bullet on herself or sacrifice herself to make sure alphonsus survives. You know. The little blonde kid who lost everything to his and his older brothers idealism and wish to bring their dead parent back. Complete coincidence in how the main characters all parallel each other.
Anyway like 40 episodes later roy is now actively loosing and she goes nuh uh and PUTS A GUN TO HIS HEAD cause he has abandoned his compassionate ideals in that moment and he goes "the fuck u gonna do after shooting me" and she goes "kill myself, cause the flame alchemy" and he IS SO SHOOK BY THAT that he immediately goes
"I can't afford to loose you."
?!?!?!?!
And calms down and realizes that he has hurt her AGAIN which is like the thing he has felt immense guilt about (next to the genocide) for ten years and they have the tenderest liddle moment during which in the manga
HE TAKES HIS GLOVES OFF TO TOUCH HER HAND
and then like 10 minutes later the villains are like "hey Mustang u like this woman right" and almost kill her and that's when my tattoo happens which I cannot stress enough is like a split second and the closest they ever get to wach other like
ALL THIS
Just happens strewn over 64 episodes while the elric brothers do their heroes quest thing. First time viewers are not even equipped to get the weight of any of it and in all that time they NEVER EVEN CALL EACH OTHER BY THEIR NAMES
The Lovers, Upright: Queen Alyssane and her daughters (any of them or all of them, though it could be interesting if there was a focus on Saera?)
Saera had expected her life would be much easier when her father died fighting the Martells. Aemon and Baelon avenged him, of course, and sent those Dornish running, and even now the debate over whether to launch a full-scale invasion in retaliation for the King's death rages.
Aemon is against it; he wants peace and he says Father died honorably, in battle, rather than at the hands of a spy or assassin. Baelon wants fire and blood, and Alyssa is egging him on. Let them go and take it, then. Saera will get along here in the Red Keep quite comfortably without them.
But while she expected her mother to retreat into her grief and essentially ignore her- even more than she always has- after her father's untimely demise, she is sorely mistaken. Two moons after the grandiose funeral, she finds the Queen waiting for her in her bedchamber. "Sit down," her mother says. Her husband's death has aged her a decade in a matter of weeks. Her sandy blonde hair has turned pure white, and there are lines and wrinkles in her face that never existed before. Saera wants to curl her lip, but sits, haughtily perched on the edge of her bed.
"Alys Turnberry's mother believes she is with child," she says, quietly. That stupid bitch, Saera wants to say. I told her not to let him go that far, but she was always a weeping willow for a man. "I questioned Alys at length," says Alysanne. "And then your friend Perianne. Perianne and Alys both claim you have been intimate with Braxton Beesbury, and have led Jonah Mooton and Roy Connington to believe that they will also be enjoying your attentions in the next few months." Saera would have raged if her father had been the one confronting her, but he is ashes on the wind, and with her mother, silence is better than furious denials. She says nothing, letting an appalled look cross her face. Alysanne says nothing, either. It stretches on and on until Saera says, "So you will believe two jealous cows over your own daughter?" "What cause do they have to besmirch your reputation, Saera? The men, I could understand them making perverse jokes and claims, in the hopes you would be married to one of them. The girls-," "They hate me!" Saera snaps. "The only reason they're my friends is because it's the only way any boy in a hundred leagues would pay them attention! They want to see me humiliated, Mother, and punished-," "So you deny any involvement with Beesbury," Alysanne says, coldly. "Do not lie to your mother, Saera. Not now." You've been lying to me for years, Saera thinks. But the look in her mother's eyes is hollow, almost numb. It unnerves her. She is used to seeing Alysanne proud, even smug, cherishing her perfect older children, ignoring her unwanted younger ones. They are all the rejects. Her and Vaegon and Viserra and that idiot Daella. She only pays Gael any mind because Gael is still small and cute. In time, she'll tire of her. "A midwife or maester could tell me if you are no longer a maid," says Alysanne. "But I will not have one of my daughters demeaned so. Give me the truth, and we can handle this reasonably, Saera. I know you do not want to marry Braxton. You do not wish to wed any man. I understand." "You do?" Saera sneers. "Is that why you're marrying Daella off to that fat old fool Arryn?" Alysanne flinches as if struck, and then says, "The betrothal will not be formalized. Aemon and Baelon have both spoken against it. They see no need for Daella to marry." "Good. Alyssa can look after her," Saera snaps. "Because I won't be her nursemaid-," "We're not talking about Daella," her mother says. "We're talking about you. The truth, Saera. Tell me what happened. I promise you, it is better I navigate this with you than your brothers. They will not be half as understanding." Saera stares at her. Understanding? Her mother has never even tried to understand her. But the thought of speaking to Aemon or Baelon about this turns her stomach. She inclines her head, after a moment, and begins to speak.
Dude, I can totally see the hatzgang teaming up to wreck someone. Like one of them distracting someone so the other two can ambush them
(The biggest victim I can see to this is Radford)
Couldn’t help but do this one next, it’s mah pfp boi, c’mon. Also these little crazies would so do this, especially since Rob already loves tkling his big bro
Lers Roy Ross and Robert, Lee Radford
Warning: cussing, rushed and shitty ending
Word count: 1410
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“So, guys, what’s the plan?”
Roy looked back at his two friends, the three hanging out near the door of the movie theater, plotting a very special attack on Robert’s very own brother and current movie theater employee, Radford. Robin, Robert’s older sister, had been nice enough to lead them here, but now they were on their own while she went in to see a movie.
“Well, one of us will have to distract him, but the question is, which one?” Ross asked, looking between his two friends. “It can’t be me, I’m not very distracting…”
“If I go in there and just start talking to him, he’ll know something’s up,” Robert noted, “We’ve used this to get the jump on him a lot at home so he’ll suspect something if it’s me.”
“Well, lucky for you guys, not only am I perfect at distracting people, but he won’t know to suspect anything if it’s me,” Roy stated proudly.
“Yeah yeah, good, now go!” the ravenette told him, shoving him into the theater lobby.
Radford enjoyed his job. It was a pretty small town, so it was usually quiet, and he got to meet some pretty interesting people, like Rick and Streber. Most of the people he met were pretty friendly, but he did have to deal with his fair share of Karens, inconsiderate people leaving messes, and people sneaking in. But usually, his job was peaceful enough.
He was waving to Robin as she went off to watch the horror movie when he heard the theater doors closing yet again, and turned to greet the next person.
“Hello, welcome to- oh, hey, you’re one of Robert’s friends, aren’t you? Roy, right?” he asked as the brunette approached him, leaning over the counter to see him better. “What are you doing here? I thought your parents didn’t like you leaving the house alone.”
“Yeah, yeah, I know. I just wanted to, y’know, see what a movie in an actual theater was like,” he reasoned, glancing off to the side, Radford assumed in embarrassment. “We have a home theater but I kinda wanted to see how different it was, and if it’s as good as Ross and Robert say it is.”
“Well, you’ve come to the right place! We’re the best movie theater in town!... Probably because we’re the only theater in town, but who cares? Which movie would you like to see?”
Roy pretended to think as his friends snuck behind the counter, feigning considering his options as the small blonde and ravenette crept closer and closer until, finally, he ‘came to a decision’.
“I think I’m gonna see- NOW GUYS!” he suddenly yelled, confusing and startling the young adult, before the other two teens leapt up and grabbed his arms, yanking him back onto the ground.
“WH- Robert!” he shouted angrily at his brother.
“Hi, big bro~”
“Dude, what are you doing?!”
“Well, you remember that time that you decided to tickle me in front of these two?” Rob motioned with one hand to the other boy holding Rad down, and Roy, who was coming around the counter.
Radford immediately knew what that meant and started tugging at his arms, anticipation bubbling inside him.
“W-wait, hold on, w-w-we’re in public, I- I need to check people in and-”
“C’mon, dude, you know how common PDA is in this town. Besides, almost everyone is home today thanks to the weather,” Ross pointed out, and Radford hated the realization that he was right.
“Still, you can’t just- You- I- All three of you s-EE-” he squeaked as he felt his little brother poke his side.
“You know, we’ll probably go easier on you if you don’t insult us,” Robert whispered not-so-quietly to the older blonde, who looked at his friends uneasily before deciding he was right.
“Alright, Robert, where’s his death spot?” Roy asked slyly, carefully studying the two blondes. While he knew Rob wanted revenge for their sleepover at his house, he wouldn’t put it past him to hide it for his brother’s sake.
Then again, maybe he wouldn’t, he thought after seeing the blondes exchange looks, Robert’s evil and smug, Radford’s nervous but giddy.
“It’s-” Rob started but was promptly cut off by his brother.
“D-don’t you dare!”
“-his back.”
“DAMN YOU!”
“Ah, perfect~ Ross, get his arms,” Roy told the ravenette, who raised an eyebrow at him expectantly. The brunette sighed a bit.
“Get his arms, please?” “There you go,” Ross praised him as he took the other arm from Rob’s hold and pulled them so Radford was forced into a sitting position.
“Robert, would you like to do the honors? He is your brother, after all,” Roy offered to the blonde, who nodded enthusiastically.
“Oh, you know it!” he chirped as he walked around to stand behind his brother. “This is what you get for being a little shit!”
Radford tried to protest but didn’t get anything out before he squealed at the gentle tickles he suddenly felt right next to his shoulders, both trying to scrunch away and pull his arms from Ross’s hold, and was almost successful.
“WOAH! He’s really strong for a scrawny guy!” Ross pointed out as he held fast.
“Or he’s just got a size advantage over all of us,” Roy reasoned, “weighs more than any of us.”
“Yeah, fair point.”
“Guys, I thought you were gonna join! Don’t make me teach him a lesson all by myself,” Rob butted into their conversation, peeking around his brother at the two.
“Wahait WHAT?!”
“Oh, that’s right, now let’s see, where should I…?” he trailed off, debating on different spots until he smirked and started squeezing Rad’s sides, eliciting yet another squeal from him, making him curl up with little kicks.
“NOHO! AAHAHA!!” he yelped as the two fairly bad spots were targeted, tugging at his hands even more, forcing Ross to plant his feet to keep himself steady.
“You know, Ross, if you let him go, you can help us,” Rob pointed out, and before Radford was ready, the ravenette actually did let go, making him fall backwards onto his little brother.
“OW- Rad!” he whined as though he wasn’t the one who coaxed Ross to let go.
“Hey, that was your fault and you kno-HOHOW AHAHA WHY-HIHIHI?!” he attempted to defend himself before suddenly his sides, back and belly were being dug into, pulling yet another squeal from his system. He tried to curl up or cover himself but nothing worked.
“Y’know, guys, maybe we could give him a way out if he really wants?” Ross offered the idea, not liking the idea of accidentally going past Rad’s limits.
“Fine, if he… Apologizes to Rob for embarrassing him at our sleepover!” Roy decided, and Robert nodded below his older brother.
“Yeah, apologize to me!” the blonde told his brother, tickling where he could reach around his shoulders, making him try to arch away from the devious fingers.
“YOUHUHU DESEHEHERVED IHIHIT!”
Suddenly the tickling stopped. He wasn’t sure why until he opened his eyes, looking up to see Roy and Ross staring past him in what almost seemed to be horror. What are they staring at?...
WAIT.
Just as he realized Robert must have been planning something, he suddenly felt a vicious raspberry right between his shoulders, his uniform offering very little protection as his ribs were kneaded into as well, sending him into silent laughter.
The moment he got his breath back, he screamed out the best apology he could manage to make legible, and finally the tickling stopped. He panted and giggled as Ross helped him sit up, Robert brushing himself off from being stuck beneath him and Roy patting his back.
“Mission accomplished, operation: Tickle Radford for revenge successful,” Rob cheered. “You ok, bro?”
“Ihihi… Ihi’ll be fihine…” he giggled out, slowly calming down.
“Need some water or something?” Ross asked, and Radford shook his head as his giggles died down.
“Nah, I’ll be fine. But what I do need is to get back to work. So y’all better leave me to it before I just so happen to return your revenge!” he threatened playfully, wiggling his fingers at the three, who left in a hurry.
He chuckled quietly as he stood, stretching out just a bit. It was nice to play like just a little kid again, even if he had to work. And even if it was his turn to check tickets.
Oh wait.
I am so fired.
