Travis Dermott knew that he would draw attention with his actions in the Coyotes’ home opener against the Anaheim Ducks at Mullett Arena on Saturday. The Arizona defenseman just hoped that the spotlight might shine on the issue that he was addressing, not on him.

“You don’t really want to go against rules that are put in place by your employer, but there’s some people who took some positive things from it,” Dermott said. “That’s kind of what I’m looking to impact.

“You want to have everyone feel included and that’s something that I have felt passionate about for a long time in my career. It’s not like I just just jumped on this train. It’s something that I’ve felt has been lacking in the hockey community for a while. I feel like we need supporters of a movement like this; to have everyone feel included and really to beat home the idea that hockey is for everyone.”

“I won’t lie,” said Dermott, who is playing on a one-year, two-way contract. “From the outside, it’s easy to see that I’m putting my career on the line for something. I definitely went through some emotional ups and downs that night, not regretting anything by any means, but I’d love to have maybe done a couple of steps a little different by making sure that everyone was aware of what was going on before I did it.

“I don’t want to put my teammates or my coaches or my GMs or the equipment managers in any kind of bad light when it’s their job to kind of look out for something like this happening. It was definitely something that I did just by myself and was prepared to kind of deal with whatever repercussions the league decides to push towards that. I’m not going to back off and say that this battle is won, but we’re going to find better ways to do it.”

As Dermott noted, LGBTQ+ inclusion is an issue that he has supported for a long time. Without getting into specifics, Dermott said the issue is personal for him because it impacts people close to him.

“I’d be lying if I said I haven’t shed tears about this on multiple occasions,” he said. “So yeah, it’s something I’m definitely very passionate about.

“I’ve met a lot of people that from the outside, it looks like they have everything going right in their life and they have a smile on their face every time they talk to you. But sometimes when we get closer to people and get comfortable enough for them to open up to you, you can see that there’s some pretty dark stuff happening to some good people. It doesn’t take too many times encountering something like that for it to really change someone.

“I’ve been blessed to have some of those opportunities put in front of me to really change my view of what being a good person means; what being a good father and a good example and role model means going forward. You really see how people are hurting and it’s because of a system that maybe no one’s intentionally trying to be malicious about, but until you’ve really had that first-person experience seeing people hurting from it right in front of you, it’s tough to kind of take steps.”

It would be a surprise if the league handed down any sort of punishment. The optics alone would add to the public relations damage that the original ban created. Even so, Dermott reiterated his desire to bring the entire franchise into the fold before he takes similar actions in the future, but he also made it clear that he will not be silenced on the topic.

“It’s not like I’m shutting up and going away,” he said. “I know more questions are going to be coming. We’re just going to be as prepared as we can be to just spread love. That’s the thing. It’s gay pride that we’re talking about, but it could be men’s health. It could be any war. It’s just wanting world peace. Everyone’s got to love each other a little bit more.

“Like my parents said growing up, ‘How awesome would it be to be the guy that people look up to?’ That’s what really hit home when I was a kid, especially from my mom. You want to grow up and be that guy. You want to be the guy that’s having the impact on kids like NHL players had on you. If they had been racist or bigoted, that’s going to have an effect on you.

“With how many eyes are on us, especially with the young kids coming up in the new generation, you want to put as much positive love into their brain as you can. You want them to see that it’s not just being taught or coming from maybe their parents at home. They need to see it in the public eye for it to really make an effect.”

Please DO NOT use AI to generate fanfic

Not reblogging because I don't want to bash, but a day after hearing that OpenAI has scraped AO3 to train their writing AI, I've just seen a Tumblr post with AI-generated 'fanfic'.

The billions of hours of labour that millions of fanfic writers have given, hoping for nothing in return but comments and kudos, has been taken and used to train a for profit AI owned by Elon Musk. [So many people have nit-picked this, I'm editing to add: while Elon does not outright own this, as I believed at time of writing, based on the info linked, he did INVEST HEAVILY in it. This does not constitute deliberate misinformation and is honestly not that a significant difference FFS.]

This is bad, guys.

It's bad because it's fundamentally wrong, because it endangers fan works, and because it's illegal.

Not illegal in the way that fanfiction is legally questionable but now broadly defensible by highly trained OTW lawyers. Illegal in the way that copyrighted works and characters have been used for profit to create works with Open AI.

It's wrong not just because the works are created without consent from the labour of authors who won't see a penny, but because the aim of AIs like Open AI is to replace the work of professional writers.

You may use Open AI to make a silly fanfic and have a good laugh, but that's not what Elon wants it for.

If you hate what's happened to Twitter, you should be really, really scared about this.

It endangers fanworks because it awakens the power and might of brands like Disney, who have mostly stopped trying to sue fancreators (although they really, really did used to, and not that long ago) for using their IP and especially for writing LGBTQ+ fic. They're mostly willing to turn a blind eye because we aren't making any money.

But that's not what Elon wants to do. And they might start caring again if they see Open AI writing Stucky (follow the link, it writes Stucky omegaverse fic at the merest mention of Steve) and it obviously does so because it used AO3 as its source material.

You and I know it's not any fic writer's fault, but I don't think Disney cares, and it's cheaper to battle AO3 than Elon.

I should stress: AO3 admins are aware. It's been reported. do not clog up their inboxes reporting it again.

The above reasons and more are all arsenal in the armoury of OTW's lawyers. But that's still a battle to fight.

In the meantime, the very least you can do is NOT USE OPEN AI.

Not for a laugh. Not for anything.

It is easy to make jokes about the Eastern European and Jewish prerogative about food. It is not so easy when you know both groups have been literally starved to death through no fault of their own.

It is easy for someone to say "why didn't they just leave" but not so easy knowing because these murders by starvation were intentional, the victims were actively prevented from leaving. Which in itself is proof it was intentional for these people to starve to death.

If you want us to believe something like the Holodomor was a natural famine you shouldn't also tell us about internal passports (something many countries have done in order to keep an eye on where their "undesirables" are going) and people being shot for trying to board trains, planes, busses, and carriages. If, instead, it was natural, why stop people from going somewhere that there IS food?

Through the lens of epigenetics we can begin to understand why a third generation American of EE/Jewish descent might have this anxiety about food, about making sure there is enough, that we remember those who are less fortunate, that we appear to subsist entirely on leftovers. Or, indeed, why many with these epigenetic changes tend to trend towards higher percentages of body fat. Our bodies through our genes remember a time nobody could be even a pound overweight and it knows that the body literally eats itself as we starve and the first to go of course is body fat so our bodies, knowing all this, make sure we have extra "God forbid (ptoo ptoo ptoo), just in case".

"They tried to kill us, they failed, let's eat" isn't just a pithy saying. We outlived them even despite being unable to eat. We do not hoard food, we just happen to have a lot of leftovers through this anxiety about food. "Oy, I ate too much" is a blessing. With it, we are aware of how few times our ancestors could say the same. During Pesach (Passover), we have an entire dinner party (complete with perhaps a little too much wine) and recline in style as we eat matzo and remember why it is just so damn flat (we rushed off to escape from Egypt without finishing making our dough. D'oh!). Everything on the seder plate has a meaning, with some items being added or removed based on the traditions of the family or congregation doing the seder. Such as in the past couple years the olive is added to symbolize the hope for peace in Ukraine (or, for some, peace in the Middle East). Or the orange to symbolize the inclusion of the LGBTQ community.

Perhaps it seems paradoxical to eat so much in one sitting instead of saving some for a time where food may be scarce. But it goes hand in hand with "They tried to kill us, they failed". We have survived another day and have enjoyed good food and good company. In spite of everything they did to us. We feast out of spite. Perhaps because of all those times our enemies were eating without a care in the world while our ancestors watched and starved. We have proof of commie buffets while starving Ukrainians watched from the street. We have proof of Jews being teased with food, with Gentiles tossing heels of bread on the ground so they could watch as said Jews fought over it or flinging a sausage and laughing as Jews raced to get it as if they were playing fetch with a dog. Or the innumerable times people were killed for stealing a handful of grain when many times they were the ones who had farmed the grain in the first damn place.

There are many who do not see starvation as a tool of genocide. They don't understand how starvation can break a community. Death by Hunger, the translation of Holodomor, was not about control like people claim (in other words they claim the death was an accident, that the starving was meant to keep people in line. If they had just behaved themselves they wouldn't have died etc.,). It was always and forever about a stronger group ridding the world of another group without getting literal and metaphorical blood on their hands. They could cite plausible deniability. It wasn't their fault, honest, it was just bad luck.

The stereotypical scene of people in lines that stretch multiple city blocks was in fact the norm. And more often than not, only the first few dozen would get anything at all and everyone else would find they had wasted an entire day waiting for food that was never meant to be given to them in the first place. The supply was purposely small. At least for those who were either too low in the Party or not a part of it at all. For Jews, you turned to the black market which was often caught selling spoiled food as well as food that wasn't actually food at all (such as sawdust masquerading as bread). Which happened even with regular stores because as a Jew you could only buy certain things and everyone knew it and still would not sell the genuine article because why should they? It is, after all, going to a Jew. Soviet areas were guilty of doing this to everyone, too.

So if you are visiting an EE and/or Jewish home and they actively push food on you and insist you take leftovers, that is their love language. We want you to have enough because far too many times our people did not. And in Jewish culture, it is a literal mitzvah to provide food to those who cannot procure it themselves either because of money/access, or they are going thru the bereavement process or otherwise incapable of dealing with making sure they have something to eat (such as an illness that prompts them being added to the Mi Shebeirach list which in many congregations is printed and given out to refer to during the Mi Shebeirach prayer during services and may also be paired with the mourner's kaddish list). It is why when you go to a house where the occupants are sitting Shiva, you will often find their kitchen stacked with tupperware of varying sizes and cuisine and you will often be instructed to bring something as well though it isn't a requirement. Generally, your presence is considered the more important aspect of the Jewish bereavement process. (Just do not say you are going to sit Shiva with someone. Rather, you are paying a Shiva call or condolence call. Only the mourners are in fact sitting Shiva. Also important: try the door first before ringing or knocking, as usually that is seen as an interruption to sitting Shiva which is frowned upon. And do not literally call them unless told otherwise for the same reason.)

Food makes or breaks us. Food is not inherently moral or immoral. And yes, perhaps there is always room for dessert. And maybe we do eat too much but that's okay. We have survived to enjoy it, so let us do so. Nu, it is what our ancestors would want.

hello, I'm a younger transmasculine person and I was curious about a few things (for reference I live in the us in a fairly left state)

- how do you get started on testosterone?

I've never gotten a clear answer on this, some people said it took a two year queue, others could start immediately. idk when I want to start, but i dont want to be confused on what to do when I get the ball rolling

- are there alternatives to shots, and do they work better or worse?

I dont think I could do the shots myself unless there's no other options, something about them just makes my bones hurt

- how often do you have to apply T, and what happens if you forget to take it?

I'm pretty forgetful and I'll probably not take T on the scheduled date at least once, I hope that won't screw with anything because I don't really know if you've got to be consistent with it

- do you have any tips for clothing/voice training?

I think I pass at least a little okay but my voice is one of the things I'm most self conscious about. I also find myself spending 10-20 minutes every morning pulling my shirt against my chest to see if my binders working, and just end up wearing the same sweater I have for the past few weeks

these are all great questions, i'm so glad you're taking the time to ask! this is extremely thorough and well thought out!

How do you get started on testosterone?

That's a great question, i feel like a lot of people have barriers to this one. if you are in a state where you have access to Planned Parenthood, this is usually a good place to start. check to see if you have a transgender resource center in your area. if not, go to whatever local lgbtq organization you can find, even one in a college. it is also possible to search gender affirming care [area], but clinicians aren't always available via Google

Here is a list of informed consent clinics that provide gender affirming care services, you may want to look here.

The process looks different for literally everyone, that's why no one can give you a clear answer, i'm so sorry! it's such a chaotic process for all of us. some trans men will literally get their prescription for testosterone within a month, others it does take years. do some research and see if therapy is required before hormones will be prescribed in your area. if not, you will likely have a much faster and easier time getting your hormones. if you don't need therapy, generally you'll just need to sign some consent forms and waivers stating that you are aware of what you are going to do to your body.

Are there alternatives to shots, and do they work better or worse?

all forms of testosterone are equally effective, it just depends on the dosage and the person. currently in the united states, you can get topical testosterone in the form of an alcohol based gel! it is applied topically to the upper forearms or abdomen, generally daily. it works just as well as the injectable testosterone, so long as you respond well to it! there is also the option of having your clinician do shots for you if you don't respond well to gel, as well.

nebido also may be available for FtM HRT in your area!

How often do you have to apply T, and what happens if you forget to take it?

Daily for topical gel, anywhere between twice a week, once a week, to once every two weeks for shots, depending on the person, how well they tolerate the medication, their transition goal, and the dosage.

Do you have any tips for clothing/voice training?

In terms of vocal training, AmaRoseLessons, Zoey Alexandria, and Trans Vocal Training are YouTube channels that can help with vocal training exercises, and i can also recommend the r/transvoice subreddit as well if you need help figuring out how to practice and ways to integrate what you learn into how you speak naturally!

For clothing, really anything goes, it depends on what you're going for and how you want to look. Remember that your personal style still gets to be included in the mix! Generally speaking, bulkier shapes that obscure the shoulders, hips and chest help a lot, layering of clothes, and wearing clothes with "boxier" cuts. Ah, good! We've got a link to the previous conversation. This can be very helpful for dealing with timeline shenanigans in the middle of pesterlogs. I just hope they're not too worried about our ability to put together where we are in the story. I mean if we've stuck around this long . . .

Jane's paranoia is building, but she appears to have not noticed Jake is spying on her. Still she seems somewhat overconfident in her abilities. To be fair, she has been dodging and surviving assassination attempts since childhood.

Wait! Jane on the moon? I thought that wasn't canon! Well, if anything on Earth C past the credits are supposed to be canon at least. I wonder if that means we might return to some of the sprite shenanigans?

Oh wow! This is a tirade and a half! The worst part is a lot of it is true. We know Jake wasn't the best parent for Jade, and we know now about Joey and Jude. But still, I got the impression Jake was much more in Tavvy's life than Jane was. And seriously! Forcing a premature pregnancy with Life powers? The hell! Worst part is when it comes to Homestuck's worst guardians, I'm pretty sure that only barely breaks top 5.

Still, although the Candy timeline is pushing things to an extreme, this is a side of Jane I don't think ever got considered. Jane has been training all her life to be a public figure, to be an Empress really. Yeah, I'm with Dirk on this one. Wow! Jane blamed Jake for Dirk's death. Just, wow . . . And here I thought Jake was the one who never truly understood their friends.

All and all this was a really painful conversation. I think this one might have been worse than the one between Jade, Rose, and Kanaya. Why do some of the worst conversations in this story take place between Jake and Jane. From reading this, I'm really getting the impression they've always been more codependent than actually in love.

Hello my amazing fans (no one) this will be info on my page. I am currently writing a book about a charecter called agent meow meow and his quest to stop pitler, an evil dictator. This book will be like an action comedy. So if your into batshit insane stories with deep undertones this is for you! Or you just like cats. That too. I have currently written 2 chapters and am almost finished the third. I plan to first draft this by new years, which should be accomplishable. I will touch it up after and hope that the full book will be ready by February. If i don’t feel like it is I will tell you guys. This page is bascially just a development and shit posting page atm. And finally the pitbull. I haven’t got a name for this charecter yet but he is a pitbull that turns good and joins agent and Oleg. It always started like this.. you and her… her coming to you when She gets into a fight with the person you despised the most. Fiona Philips. Riri Williams girlfriend as everyone knew. You and Riri have always been close, y’all against the world, till she came. Fiona, you didn’t like Fiona philips, she used to tease you elementary school for your fascination with giving your mom pet rocks. She teased you in middle school for liking girls, then in highschool, she came to you and you thought she changed, you let her get close, closer than Riri had ever been at the time. you regretted it when you found pictures of you naked like a slut posted on small posters over school saying “Want a slut? CALL : XXX-XXX-XXXX”

Never had you been so ashamed. You left without looking back, Riri followed, she never knew what happened that day only seeing you running from school and followed you, running with you, running away. Watching you run along the train tracks trying to get away and following not wanting you to be alone.

Years later you found yourself opening the door to your dorm room to and upset Riri almost every other week, it grew tiring, but you would never say no. you loved her… more than you should have.

You would sit there and listen to her complain about Fiona, not that you payed much attention. Always sipping on the bourbon you poured yourself nodding and humming in acknowledgement listening to the music playing the background, the lights a dark purple.

Today was no different you especially had a low tolerance today after a bad date but you would always let her in. You had a cup of bourbon in hand a bowl of fruit in your lap, head layed back against the couch listening to every word spilling from her lips.

“-… I can’t believe she thought I was cheating cause i was just talking to this chick- can you believe her? She’s so…” Riri paused not able to find the word to describe her without coming off as an asshole. You on the other hand could list of countless names but decide against it. You stay silent you lift you head lazily and look at her.

“Let me get this straight, she’s accused you of cheating several times and you stayed…” You asked, she nodded and you let out and annoyed sigh letting your head fall back against the couch again “alright.”. She continued complaining. You could feel your temper rising but stay silent beside the occasional “Uh-huh” and “I get it” taking a sip of your bourbon every now and then.

She grew quiet looking at you “What’s wrong, Y/N?” she asked.

“Nothing in just peachy” you say lowly listening to the music silently hoping she was done, but she wasn’t. Riri began to complain about how Fiona said Riri didn’t spend enough time with her.

Something in you just wished she would shut up or go find someone else to complain too but never would you turn her down. you say there and listened like the good girl you were. Sipping the bourbon feeling the familiar burn down your throat.

“-. And Fiona just keeps saying i don’t spend enough time with her, like im sorry i have classes to get to” Riri drags on longer than she need to. Your eyes drift around your room. You were fortunate to not have to share a room, otherwise your sure your roommate would be tired of the complaint as much as you are right now. Your room had a pretty chill vibe a constant vibe of purple your favorite color. You were going to groan but felt a familiar gaze on you and you looked at Riri “Are you done?” You said but it came out harsher than intended

“I- yes.” She said confused

“Thank you lord” you mutter under your breath, getting up and putting your fruit in your mini fridge having lost you appetite

You felt a presence behind you, you looked back and gasped as you felt lips on yours, your eyes frantically looking between your connected lips and Riri, you slowly but surely melt into the kiss, why did it feel so good? You felt her push you onto your bed and it got heated quickly her hand up your shirt but you pushed Riri off breathing heavily

“what?” Riri asks.

You quickly realized what was happening and you looked at her “what are you doing”

“I’m kissing you?” She laughs and try’s to kiss you but you pull away giving her a look of panic

“Get out” You said shortly

She looks at you stunned “What?”

“Get. Out” You said harshly before continuing “I grew up in a house of dis function but I will not be the other women nor the rebound”

Riri hesitated but got up and left

Partners on and off the pitch, Bayern pair Pernille Harder and Magdalena Eriksson have firm convictions on all the big topics facing women’s football in an era of exciting growth and mounting pressures

In a room at Bayern München’s training ground, Magdalena Eriksson and Pernille Harder are talking bicycles. One of their favourite things about Munich, the place they have both called home since making the switch last summer from Chelsea to Bayern, is the ease of travel for cyclists in the Bavarian capital.

Eriksson: “Now we live quite centrally so we can use our bikes to get anywhere.”

Harder: “It is a bit easier to bike here in Munich than in London.”

Magda: “We even took our bikes to Oktoberfest once.” 

Pernille (laughs): “We were biking straight!”

This is the beauty of an interview with the pair (even one conducted over Zoom, as this one is): you raise a subject and they bounce it around between them, their insights and reflections interspersed with lighter moments and laughter. And, as arguably their sport’s highest-profile couple – Harder is a two-time UEFA Women’s Player of the Year, Eriksson a Sweden stalwart – they have plenty to say. 

Both care deeply about matters on and off the football pitch. They are members of UEFA’s Football Board (of which more later), they support the Common Goal project – pledging one per cent of their salaries to support football charities – and on top of that they are advocates for the LGBTQ+ community. 

But, first, back to finding their feet in Munich, where the duo bring serious know-how to a Bayern side with big ambitions, despite an early exit from the Champions League in January. In Harder’s case, the Denmark forward knew German football already from her three years with Wolfsburg between 2017 and 2020. For Eriksson, after six seasons in England with Chelsea, this is an entirely new experience – which is exactly what she was hoping for.

“I think that’s how we are as people,” says the former Blues captain. “A reason why we moved is I am really curious about a new culture and a new environment.” From the sounds of things, that decision is paying off too. Away from the pitch, she is enamoured of the local coffee shops; on it, she has been impressed by the way “a lot of the girls take responsibility around the dressing room and with how things should work around the team. There’s quite a clear structure of different responsibilities, and the players take ownership of that. That’s something more like how it was in Sweden, and not at all in England. It makes us take responsibility and it’s something I appreciate.”

As for Harder, she elaborates on the unique culture of Germany’s biggest football club – one which attempts to marry sustained success with humility. “It really is a club where you have to work hard, be humble but also know your worth,” she says. “It’s a bit weird. There is no arrogance: we know we’re good, we know we are a big club, but we know we also have to work hard. There’s a lot of respect for each other, and it’s not only in our team. When we go to the campus and meet the academy boys or some of the other staff, you have the respect. You treat others the way you want to be treated, and that’s a really good value which aligns with my values.”

Now both in their thirties – Eriksson is 30, Harder 31 – they knew the women’s game before its lift-off moments of recent years. Thus, they bring a helpful sense of perspective to any discussion of its development, and how it might evolve in years to come.

If female footballers today have opportunities beyond the dreams of previous generations, they face pressures unknown by their predecessors too, as Eriksson explains. “I think there are two sides to every story. Maybe, when we grew up, there wasn’t that much pressure, but with a growing platform [and how] the women’s game is growing, there is also growing pressure. The fans are growing, social media is growing, so there are two sides to it.

“We can really help the younger generation of today to deal with that kind of pressure, which you have to be able to manage as a footballer,” she adds. “You have to find what you need to focus on and what you should really just shut off and not focus on. You need to find the people that you talk football with and the people’s opinions you shouldn’t care about.”

Harder picks up the thread: “When we were younger, there was only one focus and that was football – to get better and to win. It was just football: that was the thing we played for. Now, there is so much more and, with social media, it’s also about a lot of individual awards, individual recognition, when the focus should be on the team. And I think it’s easier to be distracted [from] having that right focus. That’s something important to think about…”

“And to remind yourself about on a daily basis,” Eriksson cuts in. “And also to spread that within the team – that it’s a team sport and the team wins, the team loses, the team scores, the team concedes. All of those things.”

“Except when Magda scores!” adds Harder with a laugh, teasing her partner over a goal she scored in the week of this interview.

Jokes aside, the pair obviously think a lot about the game, which makes them natural choices to sit on UEFA’s Football Board, the body set up last year to draw on the knowledge of current and former players and elite coaches in the shaping of women’s football. For Eriksson, it’s “inspiring to know you get a direct line to some really big decision-makers”, and the welfare of players – “the football calendar and making football sustainable” – is something both women are keen to highlight.

“We all want a long career, but sometimes if you have to play all the time and have no break, that will shorten it,” says Harder. “Often, we have tournaments in the middle of summer or late summer, so we have four or five weeks before the tournament for our summer holiday, but then we don’t really have that time off because you train to prepare for the World Cup. And then, after the World Cup, [Magda] had ten days and I had two weeks off, and then you just go straight back into it. So, you have to put the tournaments earlier so you have at least four weeks after when you can really, medically, relax and be ready for the new season. Everything else is just too hard mentally and for the body.”

“It was the same last year with the EURO and the amount of injuries we saw after,” says Eriksson, who, ironically, just days after our interview, suffered a metatarsal fracture in her left foot. “Again, [it was] a couple of weeks off for a few, even less for others, and then you are straight back into a high-performance environment where you immediately have to play games. Finding a balance in the calendar where you get the breaks at the right time and don’t have too many games in short spaces of time is the most important thing.

“The fact we are starting now to do research on women’s bodies and women’s players is the first step. With the way we train, the way we train conditioning, everything is based on research on men’s football players, men’s athletes. We don’t know if it’s the same for us. Should we train more or less, or in a different way?”

From Harder comes further food for thought. “When you think about it, we use the same football as the men. It isn’t that I want to change it, but it’s also the same size of pitch and we don’t have the same body; we don’t have the same strength in the muscles. I don’t know the impact from every time I shoot or make a pass, if that’s actually a bigger impact on my muscles than it is on a man’s. That’s something I think it would be quite interesting to look at. I don’t know if it’s something we want to change and have a lighter ball. Maybe it’s just small percentages of how heavy the ball is that could change it.”

“There is rivalry in women’s football, but respect, love and joy always come first”

It’s fascinating to hear this to and fro on the physical side of the game they love, and it’s not the only challenge they see. We talk too about misogyny and what Harder describes as “a mindset of some people who don’t want to change [and see] that women can also play football, women can also be commentating on men’s football, that they also have knowledge about football. They have their mindset and their values about it and it’s really difficult for them to change.”

What is not in question is that women’s football has taken giant steps already in terms of status and recognition. As the commercial opportunities grow, however, neither woman wants to lose the things that make it different from the men’s game. Eriksson recalls the celebratory atmosphere in Australia and New Zealand during the last Women’s World Cup; she cites too the friendly fan dynamics in the club realm.

“We are coming off the back of a fantastic World Cup where there were only positive emotions connected to the games. Of course, some teams win, some teams lose – that’s part of football – but the way the tournament was held and the fan culture, that was amazing. So much positivity, so much joy, and that’s everywhere in women’s football fan culture right at the moment. That is what we want to keep. In women’s football, that rivalry is still there, but the respect, the love and the joy is always what comes first.”

The last word comes from Harder, ever the finisher. “It won’t be easy to keep it like that, but that at least is the aim.”

OKOK SO I watched it from the hours of midnight to 4am, so I was kinda incoherent when posting that BUT I still do have thoughts.

Mainly I want to pummel James Somerton into the ground for multiple reasons, most of which H put more succinctly than I ever could.

It’s just so fucking disheartening to see someone like James Somerton be so successful off the hard work of people who have dedicated their lives to the stuff he’s ripping off of when those original authors are barely getting paid. It’s very hard to be an academic and watch this video because I know that if I were to write something academic about the queerness in media and publish it, which I plan to do out of college, there’s a very real possibility of James or someone like him finding the work, yoinking it and not giving me the credit, when I won’t get a fucking cent from the publication or him.

I hate that he’s getting away with it too, basically pulling the “I’m gay so I can’t be bad” card. That’s a fucking step BACK from the equal rights that LGBTQ people have been fighting for. By pulling this excuse, he separates the “gays” from the “straights”, putting each group under one black and white label- the straights are evil people who just want to put us gays down. That is a nasty idea right there. Follow that train far enough and you find yourself spouting homophobic rhetoric. Equal rights and seeing the LGBTQ community as equal to others means seeing them as human at ALL angles, the good and the bad. Just because you’re gay doesn’t mean you can’t fuck up. Hell, I’m gay, and I’ve fucked up more times than I can count! It just makes me human, and it doesn’t make me less gay. James Somerton is touting himself as The Gay Person Who Knows Everything, which is blatantly untrue, discredits every queer person he’s ripped off of, and separates himself from the other LGBTQ people who make content as “better”- there’s that seed of homophobia again.

AND HE KEEPS DOING THIS! He’s biphobic and misogynistic! He routinely attacks “straight white women”—who could very well be bisexual, but because they’re women they MUST be straight according to Somerton logic—and discredits the work of bisexual authors (mainly bisexual women) who talk about the struggles of the LGBTQ community because “they like the opposite sex so they wouldn’t get it”. He dips himself into transphobia in order to give his biphobia and misogyny some weight, misgendering ND Stevenson (who has been on record about his struggle with coming out and gender identity) and Rebecca Sugar (who has done the same) on multiple occasions. And it’s really fucking disgusting. It really fucking is. When he copies off of work that mentions the words “trans” or “transgender”, he covers those words with generalizations, which takes the transgender community out of the queer experience. So on TOP of being misogynistic and biphobic, he’s ramming headfirst into transphobia too. Which holy fucking shit.

I just. H said not to send hate to James or his team or anyone else talked about in the video on his behalf. I agree and I don’t want to do that. But I sure hope this video is enough to make James Somerton stop being the utter fucking academic supervillain he is. He thinks he can get away with it because YouTube doesn’t count as academia, but there is so much goddamn evidence against him at this point he can’t possibly get off Scot free anymore. He likes to read about humans and such so when he read a book about the trans community he suspected something about you

When you told him he had a grin on face glad that he was right and glad that you trusted him more than Lucifer

“Hmm..you’re trans? I had a suspicion but I didn’t want to make you feel uncomfortable. Oh you didn’t tell Lucifer yet, you trust me more than him? That’s amazing.”

Although he already knows a lot about the subject he’s always reading up on the subject because it intrigues him

No one dares talk bad about you or misgender you when satans around

Like they wanna live to see the next day💀

But if they do…may the lord forgive them because Satan won’t

Threatens the brothers when you tell them

Rubs it in Lucifer’s face that you told him first

He gotta kill that pride somehow 🤷🏽

If you go to him feeling dysphoric he reads to you while you rest your head in his lap

Or he’ll make you some tea and lets you rant about your feelings

☆ Asmo

Asmo was ECSTATIC when you told him

He was probably the only brother to make a big deal out of it tbh

“Ah! Darling you told me first? Hehe I’m so glad, come to me if you ever need help♡~”

He’s already giving you makeovers based on your preference, he can make you look femme or masc, whatever you want

He takes you out to get a new wardrobe the moment you tell him

If someone misgenders you accidentally he’ll correct them passive aggressively

“For someone that claims to know MC you don’t seem to know their right pronouns, maybe pay more attention, hon.”

But if it’s on purpose he’ll tear that demon’s confidence down to the ground, like if that demon thought highly of themselves they definitely don’t when Asmo’s done

He also buys you pride merch but it’s not cringy like Mammon’s dw

Asmo will never let you feel dysphoric, the moment he suspects something you’re bombarded with compliments and the two of you are having a spa day

☆ Beel

Poor Beel nearly choked on his food when you randomly told him-

He looked at you shocked, smiled and then gave you some food

“You’re trans? Mhm thanks for trusting me enough to tell me. Here have some food you look tense.”

He already knows about the lgbtq so no explanation was needed

He won’t tell the brothers if you’re not ready, but he’s ready to be there for emotional support when you are

Most demons think that Beel won’t do anything about you being misgendered because he’s chill but they’re so wrong 💀

Beel gets pissed if someone misgenders you

If a demon is blatantly being transphobic to you Beel’s chill demeanor does a complete flip

He was just munching a second ago and now he’s standing right beside you glaring at the demon, menacingly

“It’ll be better for you if you apologize to MC, I don’t wanna hurt anyone…well in front of MC at least.”

He likes to make you food when you’re feeling dysphoric because “delicious food can make anyone feel better”

☆ Belphie

When you first told him he was half awake so he murmured something and went to sleep

“Huh? Oh..good for you, come lay with me.”

So when you told him again when he was actually awake he gave a better? response

“Ok? That doesn’t change the way I feel about you..now let’s take a nap”

Out of all of the brothers his reaction is the most nonchalant

That’s not to say that he doesn’t care, he loved that you trusted him enough to tell him

He just doesn’t want to make you feel weird by acting differently because you’re trans

He would actually kill anyone who misgenders you, he doesn’t care who it is

You’d have to rip Belphie off of the demon to get him to stop

He’d just stare at you innocently before saying that “they should’ve thought before they spoke, so it wasn’t my fault”

You probably don’t wanna go to Belphie if you feel dysphoric cause most likely he’s sleeping

But if he finds out he’ll play with your hair, eventually falling asleep

“Fuck off Stephen Strange!”

Slamming the door anger washed over as you wept into your hands. Locking the latch, you slumped to the floor with your back against the door. Stephen was always a blunt man who hardly minced his words. It was one of the many traits you admired yet loathed about him. Usually you banter back and forth, but today his words cut you deep as the tears continued to flow. You knew he had good intentions about reminding you to take your medication, but there are days he felt more like a parent instead of a boyfriend.

Knock knock knock

“Babe come on open the door”

“No! I said leave me alone!” You screamed.

“Technically you said, ‘Fuck off Stephen Strange’,” he smirked behind the door keeping his temper.

Smartass…

He could feel you rolling your eyes, “but Im not leaving until you open the door.” Crossing his arms Stephen leaned against the tapestry wall drumming his fingers against his forearm.

“Babe Ive waited five hours by a doorstep in Kathmandu, believe me, I can wait.”

Rolling your eyes once more you brought yourself upright wiping the tears from your cheeks. Opening the heavy wooden door crossing your arms in defense you looked down at your feet. Stephen stepped towards you slowly stopping an arms distance between you. 

“Listen,” he trailed off rubbing the back of his head, “Im sorry for being so pushy earlier”

“No, its my fault, I shouldn’t have lied about taking my medicine,” clutching your shoulders Stephen saw you shaking, and it made his heart hurt. He hated seeing you in such mental turmoil. 

“Yes, that would have been the wisest option,” he whispered, “its just that, I wish you didn’t lie to me. You know you can tell me anything” His background in medicine reminded him of the consequences of suddenly stopping anti depressants, the symptoms can be terrible if not worse then before taking them. 

Dropping your arms, you muttered a little over a whisper, “I just don’t want to be on medication for the rest of my life. I feel like an idiot,” you could barely bring yourself to say the final part before the tears flowed once more. Stephens eyes grew wide as he stepped forward breaking the distance between you bringing you into his sturdy frame. His strong forearms braced you tightly as you clutched onto his robe for dear life.

“Shh…shh its ok babe. It will be okay. Take a deep breath,” he felt you exhale and admired your obedience, “Now look at me,” taking your chin with his thumb and index finger he looked into your eyes. Releasing a sniffle, casting your eyes up his cerulean gaze. 

“First off,” he demanded, “If I ever hear you call yourself an idiot again. I will put you over my knee and spank your beautiful ass till its pink. Your lucky I haven’t done that already for lying” Your cheeks flushed at the sudden dominance; you knew it was meant as a threat. But in an odd way it turned you on. Pinching your legs together you shuffled your feet.

Taking your hand Stephen led you to the bed setting you on his lap as you comfortably laced your arms around his neck while he supported your waist. He paused taking the time to choose his words carefully before speaking. 

Breaking the silence he beseeched, “Now, tell me why you stopped taking them”  

Fidgeting with your fingers you paused taking a breath, “I thought I could do it on my own. I was feeling better and figured I didn’t need them. I feel weak for relying on medication bc then that means that you’re not enough. And you make me the happiest in the world Stephen.”

Stephen sighed slightly shaking his head, “you’re not weak,” grabbing your hand he brought it to his heart, “Taking medication does not make you weak babe. For example, if there was something wrong with my heart, you would advise me to take medication for it right?” Nodding you shook your head giving a slight smile. “Plus, I still have to use a spell to tame my tremors” Nodding again he made a clear point.

“Then whats the difference between that and this,” your eyes froze to his kind yet stern expression. He was right, you hated to admit it, but he was right.

“Your right Stephen,” leaning in giving him a kiss his goatee tickled your chin as his lips trailed down your neckline, “Im so sorry”

Stephens hands gripped you tightly as you continued your kisses down his collarbone making him groan in your ear.

“Its okay,” he gasped as you placed a nip on his earlobe, “Just tell me next time. Maybe we can set up and alarm to remind you.” 

Pulling away you smiled back nuzzling his nose, “I like that idea”

With a gesture of his hands Stephen summoned your pills and phone. Tapping the screen, he opened you phone adjusting the timer to include a giant pill emoji when alerted. Tossing the phone aside he gave the orange bottle a gentle shake, “Now, shall we give this another go?” He smiled kindly kissing your knuckles. 

Nodding your head, you smiled. Knowing you never had to face anything alone. Good or bad you always had Doctor Stephen Strange in your corner to be your rock to lean on.

Echoes of War Chronicles WIP Intro!!!

Look at me! Writing and posting a WIP Intro and not a tag game like last Wednesday!! Did it take fifteen reminders and ten instances of sitting down with the intention to write it but getting distracted and not making any progress? Yes. But I finally got it finished!! So let's get into it!

Fair warning, this is kind of a long post, but when is anything I post not?

While nothing in this post has any kind of CW/TW I can find, this whole series is pretty dark/gory in its contents, and for that reason, I'm labeling it 18+. Specifically for excessive violence, dark themes, and general explicit content and gore. I try my hardest to label content appropriately whenever I post tag games and snippets.

Now let me introduce you to the stars of the show!

Asset 703

Created from Project Viall, 703 has been with the Mors her entire life. Trained from birth to be the most deadly weapon in the Realms. She is regarded as a demon of death and an unfeeling monster. It's the only life she's known, and she long since accepted that fact. She doesn't particularly care about the nature of her creation or the brutality of her job. She was created for a purpose, and it's the sole reason for her existence. It's not her place to think about things like life outside the Mors. Those were traitorous thoughts and pointless hopes.

Fres

Another of Project Viall's subjects, Fres was also raised in the Mors. Nearly as deadly as their partner 703, the two were feared. But as Fres was exposed to more of the Realms during their missions, they began to resent the life they had. All the pain and abuse fueled their anger. So they created a plan, escaping from the Mors in a blazing chaotic mess. From them on, they devoted themselves to fighting against the Mors. They wanted to see them burn in eternal damnation, unable to ever rise back from the smoldering pile they left them in.

Ronan "Rage" Airvix

Assigned to be 703's field handler and healer, Rage works for the Mors. He's very calm and patient, unless you disregard his healing expertise, then you'll see where the nickname Rage came from. He will adopt anyone left unattended for five minutes.

Dana Hueland

Dana is one of the hardest fighters against the Mors. A feisty woman and phenomenal fighter, she's intimidating to anyone that comes across her. She excels at close combat and piloting and is a certified BAMF, MILF, and top tier Bisexual.

Master Gerd

One of the highest ranked in the Mors, Master Gerd is a psychopath with a god complex. He abuses his power religiously, especially over 703. He is feared my nearly everyone in the Mors and he knows it. -1000/10 would drown violently.

Healer Asurr

The head of Project Viall, Healer Asurr is a bit of a mad scientist. They're only concern is their life long work of enhancing species, ultimately to create the superior lifeform. They would stick you in a cage and study you obsessively for months.

Now, because the Seven Realms are so expansive, I'm just including a few basics here (she says after having written way too much info and then hitting delete far too many times). If anyone shows an interest in knowing more about them, I'll do a post for each Realm, I'm planning to anyway at some point, but for now, enjoy the little snippets that tell you absolutely nothing about their importance to the plot!

Mirralia has the second largest population of the Seven Realms. With its variety of biomes and massive cities, it's one of the most sought after places to live. Full of some of the most rich and powerful flora and fauna, many resources for alchemy are found in the Realm. It also remains to be one of the only Realms dragons have still been spotted. Mirralia government positions are highly sought after and their military is one of the strongest of the Seven Realms.

Enkkon produces some of the best Agi (trained magic users) in the Seven Realms, with schools to match. With top schools in many specialties, it brings in species from every Realm, creating the most diverse population of any Realm. Far less rich in raw elemental, Enkkon is a quiet Realm, reliant on technology far more than the other Realms, but that doesn't make its native species any weaker than the other Realms.

Levekint has the largest population. While the cities are large and bubbling, the flora and fauna of the planet interacts with everything. It's not uncommon to see buildings with vines or trees growing out of the middle, or for a shop to have bird nests and other creatures wandering about indoors. Levekint taught healers make up ninety percent of the Seven Realms healers. It is the forefront of healing innovation, producing some of the most renowned and well known healing names in history.

Zj'ahju is the smallest Realm, with the smallest population to go with it. The harsh biome and oppressive heat make the Realm nearly inhabitable for non-native species. However, it has some of the most beautiful architecture of the Realms, specializing in metal and glass. Both are big exports for the Realm, and they produce nearly fifty percent of the Seven Realms building supplies. Weapons and jaw dropping pieces of glass art are other major exports.

Ketaawi is the second largest Realm, comprising of ninety percent water. Most of Ketaawi's native species can breathe underwater, or can hold their breath for long periods of time. The massive cities of Ketaawi are either floating on the water, able to move much like a boat, or beautiful domes underwater. Right after Enkkon, Ketaawi is one of the most technologically advanced Realms, with some of the best defenses and security to be found anywhere.

Rorrut is a mountainous planet, having the highest peaks and deepest caves in the Realms. With such conditions, it's also a major Realm for rare alchemy supplies, specifically minerals and powerful, giant creatures. The planet is constantly "growing," creating more mountains and caves to replace the ones mined. With some of the most dangerous creatures in the Seven Realms, the natives became natural fighters and survivalists. There are very few large cities, and the habitants mostly form small villages, keeping to themselves and protecting each other.

The largest of the Seven Realms, Aveilu is a gas planet. The natives of the Realm have built their cities on the many rings of the planet, which are made up of large floating island, with the largest cities being floating cities, completely fueled by energy to keep them in the sky. Most native species in the Realm have some form of flight capabilities. Aveilu is the top Realm in ship production and export, creating ninety percent of the Realms flying transportation. It is the only other Realm dragons have been spotted in.

Can you do a platonic Larissa weems x student!reader that comes out as transgender non-binary and uses he/they pronouns?

They see her desk has many pride flags with a sign that says ‘all are welcome and protected here’ that’s when they tell her and she couldn’t be more proud of them.

Larissa is seen as a mother figure and so I’d like the fluff of a mother - child relationship. She showers them in motherly love and gives them a little treat to celebrate finding themselves. She even helps reader send out emails to all of their teachers to spread awareness and is sure to be the first to respond to demonstrate the acceptance that should be be coming from each of them.

Changing for the Better

Larissa Weems x Student!Reader

Authors Note: this was sweet. i hope many lgbtq readers can enjoy this fic! also the final quote is literally something a prof told me when i came out to him.

You were so nervous to come out to Principal Weems. There was always a sign out front of her door that read ‘all are welcome and protected here’ with various pride flags decorating the boarder. You assumed that she would be the person to talk to about this, but it didn't make it any less nerve wracking.

You sat in an armchair in front of her desk when you came out to her. You felt your hands shaking and you couldn't help it when tears stung at your eyes. Her reaction was more than you could have hoped for, "That's incredible. Thank you for telling me."

Principal Weems pushed a bowl of chocolates to you, "Please take one."

As you reached into the bowl, she circled the desk and pulled a second chair closer to you so she could be next to you as she spoke, "I'm so proud of you. It can be so scary being yourself. Thank you again for trusting me so much."

You didn't know exactly what to say to her, "I-I'm not sure what to do next. How do I talk to my teachers?"

"Well you have a few options. All of the teachers have been through weeks worth of training and discussions about helping students such as yourself. However, would you like me to send an email or I could help you send one? Or perhaps we could go to their classrooms and talk to them in person?"

"Email... I'm not ready for in person."

"That's perfectly fine, dear." Principal Weems helped you draft up an email that could be sent to all of your professors. She was extremely serious in crafting the email, checking and double checking every sentence with you. By the end of the email, you were smiling and feeling much more confident about Nevermore accepting you for you, "Ready to send?"

You nod with a smile, "I think so."

Principal Weems sent the email and you felt your phone buzz in your pocket from the new email in your inbox. You began grasping at your backpack strap and Principal Weems stopped you, "Now, before you go, would you like a hug, a chocolate, or both?"

You hesitated for a moment before quietly speaking, "Both..."

She took the bowl from the desk and offered it to you. You plucked a chocolate from the bowl and stood. Principal Weems followed suit and gathered you in her arms, offering you what you felt like was one of the best hugs of your life. When she pulled away, she held you by your arms, looking you dead in the eyes, "Now if you need anything, you come speak to me. I won't tolerate any hate at this school. Pardon my language, but nobody fucks with my students."
