as someone who wasnt here at the time (was a fan from about 2011-2013) what exactly defines the "softlaunch era" pre-coming out that i hear you and others refer to?

you've come to the right place cuz this is the era when i truly became a Phannie... "gay softlaunch" is generally considered 2017-18, but to be more specific it was october 31, 2016-june 13, 2019!

before they came out this was also referred to as "post-baking universe" referencing the halloween 2016 monster pops video that had an (at the time) abnormal amount of raunchy humor and just general derangedness. nothing like it is today, but that point felt very significant and dan even brought it up in liveshows like yeah idk what happened there and when phil called a peach an ass in a gaming video dan said "we live in a post-baking universe" (i believe fans coined the term tho).

people have also called it the "glass closet era" which is a divisive name for a lot of people cuz "glass closet" can be seen as kind of a mean term and it implies like, stereotyping or speculating or the "we been knew" behavior dan had talked about in BIG. which i understand that feeling, but i don't think that's what was happening, because the way i see it was queer flagging. ways they could show a little bit who they really were without saying it just yet. they weren't Out out, but they were just like. openly talking about attraction to men and finding men hot and not calling it a Man Crush or anything. dan would bring up queerness more often in liveshows, which hes mentioned queer artists and stuff before but now it was also making jokes about like.. being in a gas leak man porn fantasy in his first livestream of 2017 LMAO. phil would make a lot more innuendos, which hes always done, but now he wasnt pretending like he didnt know what he was saying. dan started wearing a single hoop earring on his right ear. this is an old school form of queer flagging, in The Olden Days (im too lazy to look up when but like my 70-something year old history teacher knew about this) if a man had an earring on his left ear, he's straight, and if he had one on his right, he's gay. that one's pretty subtle if you don't know much about queer history and there were Great Debates over whether or not we should take it to mean he is gay, but personally i saw it as like. he was letting us know without needing to say the G word out loud just yet!

i think a really important part of this era was even outside of directly discussing queerness, they were both trying to become more authentic online and figuring out how to do that without compromising their own privacy. dan stopped straightening his hair and rebranded and opened up about his mental health. phil's authenticity journey seemed a bit slower and wasn't as overt or seemingly drastic as dan's was, but it was happening! he changed up his hair!!! which yes its kinda silly to talk abt dnp's hair but the emo fringe was Their Brand. phil in particular said that, the emo fringe was a comfort place but he was feeling like he was trapped in having it forever because it was Who He Was, so it was a huge deal for him! he opened up a little bit about his physical health, both of them were a bit more honest about all the stress and anxiety they were dealing with (the mukbang is a pretty good video where they talk about that and an interesting one to watch in retrospect) and their whole 2018 tour was themed around whether they should Give The People What They Want or do what they wanted to do.

god i talk too much ANYWAY then dan disappeared in 2019 and phil was manning the helm for a good five and a half months and then the Big Gay hit! the Hard Launch Era if you will :) and now i would say 2023-present is the Unhinged Era so i have no clue what the hell their next move is gonna be...

On creating a wiki for your worldbuilding

Do you have a lot of lore to keep track of? Whether you're an author, a Game Master, or simply someone who really really likes worldbuilding, this post is for you.

Also now that you're here, I'm going to say this isn't, like, super comprehensive or anything. I'm just talking about stuff I know a little about or have experience with. Please feel free to reblog with additions and/or corrections as needed!

What is a wiki?

According to Wikipedia, "a wiki is a hypertext publication collaboratively edited and managed by its own audience, using a web browser."

In this case, you'll likely be the sole person making updates to your wiki. The web browser part is optional these days as well, as you'll soon see.

Platforms for creating wikis

Websites for creating worldbuilding wikis

WorldAnvil

This one is actually designed for people who want to create big worldbuilding wikis.

Pros: Worldbuilding prompts! Those are great. It's got a pretty comprehensive set of article types too.

Cons: Kind of expensive to upgrade for features like making your wiki private, and it does NOT work well with adblock turned on, so if you don't want to pay for a membership you'll get inundated with ads. I'm not a huge fan of the interface in general and a lot of it isn't intuitive, but I like what they're doing so I support them anyway.

Tiddlywiki/Tiddlyhost.com.

In addition to having a cat as its icon and also a silly name, each 'article' you create with this is called a 'tiddler' which makes me think of Chuck Tingle. I haven't used it much myself yet, but I did make an account and it seems pretty neat.

Miraheze

A community-hosted wiki platform that runs on MediaWiki (which is what Wikipedia runs off of).

Pros: It's not Fandom.com.

Cons: You have to request a wiki and can't just make it yourself, as far as I can tell. I haven't actually looked into this one as much.

Neocities

An option for if you want to go super oldschool and create a website using only basic html and hyperlinks (without the handy shortcuts of bbcode or Markdown). Monthly cost is $5 usd if you want to have more space and your own domain.

Pros: 100% control over your content.

Cons: Doesn't support PHP databases for wiki software, and can be fairly labour-intensive to update if you break a link or something.

Unfortunately, this one is the top result you'll get when you look up how to make your own wiki. I'm only including it here to tell you to stay as far away from it as possible!!

Its staff are known to ban wiki creators from their own wikis and a bunch of other nonsense that I'm not getting into here.

Programs and apps/web apps for creating worldbuilding wikis

Obsidian.md

My personal favourite. I'm planning to make a whole post about how I use it in the near future as part of this article series.

It's a markdown-based application that you can get on just about any platform (Windows, MacOS, Linux, iOS, Android, etc) which is great. Obsidian is really easy to pick up and use and also has great themes and community plugins!

Best thing is, it's FREE and you only have to pay if you use their publishing service, which... I don't, so.

Notion

I've heard this one is pretty good too. Idk if it costs anything. It's another "second brain" style app (might be markdown also?) and I think it might do more than Obsidian, but I haven't checked it out much myself.

Microsoft Word/Google Docs etc.

...Or just about any word processor that lets you create internal hyperlinks. Word may work best due to the collapsible headings so it doesn't get too unwieldy, but *shrug* whatever floats your boat.

Or, again, any spreadsheet creator that lets you create internal hyperlinks.

I'd recommend having some basic spreadsheet knowledge before doing this. It could get complicated. Before I started using Obsidian, I was using Sheets to keep track of my glossary, notes about characters, and plot ideas.

Types of formatting & organization systems

There are as many organization systems as there are people who want to organize their stuff. Everybody needs something a little different! I find the ones that work best for me are systems that have a lot of customization options.

Here are a couple I know of.

Johnny Decimal

This system is absurdly simple in its concept and yet so versatile. From their website (it's just johnnydecimal dot com but I'll link it in a reblog later):

Take everything you need to organise and sort it in to, at most, ten large buckets.

Make sure the buckets are unambiguously different.

Put a label on each bucket.

Their website has a better explanation than I can give in this post, but I'll sum up the appeal of this system as quoted from their site: "There's only one place anything can ever be."

Usefully, part of this method is creating a directory for the rest of the system.

So if you're like me and tend to shove things wherever only to lose track of it later, this is a great system—especially when used in conjunction with the Zettelkasten Method (see below).

Zettelkasten Method

Originally devised as an extensive paper-based knowledge management system, Zettelkasten is meant to easily add new entries to a knowledge base while giving each one a unique ID for easy 'linking.'

The creator of this method said 'it is not important where you place the note, as long as you can link to it.'

As with the Johnny Decimal system, I can't explain it super succinctly (nor can the website, if I'm being honest), so I'll include a link in a future reblog for a video that gave me an excellent run-down of the basics.

Setting up your own system

An organization system is only useful if you can actually, y'know, use it.

It can be fun to set up a super-detailed organization system with predetermined categories for everything, but is it easy for you to use? How will you navigate it?

Making decisions

There will be a lot of decisions to make as you set up your system. The only set-in-stone rule I follow is... don't set anything in stone. It's okay if you decide something that doesn't work later on.

Figuring out your categories

My advice: go fairly broad. You can always sub-categorize. I'm going to go over my own wikis for Athenaeum and Rocket Boosters in detail in a later post, but here are the starting top-level categories I'd recommend for worldbuilders:

A meta category for notes about your database, templates, and any relevant research you've done.

Characters, including main characters, minor characters, and important figures

Worldbuilding

In the last category, which is the main reason for the existence of my wiki, I might have:

Culture

History

Locations

Organizations

Lore (if relevant)

Technology

Transportation

I'll go over the nuances of these 'main' subcategories in that future post I mentioned. In other words, the stuff that actually goes in those categories!

Determining the importance and relevance of worldbuilding elements

You'll need to figure out whether a topic is complex enough to deserve its own entry, or if it should be a sub-heading under another entry. It's okay if you decide on both! I have short subheadings under some entries that amount to "see [link to main entry on that topic]."

I've also decided to expand subheadings into their own topics, and I've removed topics as their own entry and shoved them under subheadings. I do this a lot, in fact! So it's okay if you don't know.

Templates

Will you be creating several of one type of entry?

Individual character profiles

Towns and cities

Factions

(to name a few)

It might be handy to figure out the basic types of information you'll need about each of those things and create a template for them.

A character template might have spaces for the basics, such as name, role, age, and so on.

Some characters will have a lot more information, and some might have even less than what your template dictates! And that's fine.

A word of warning about using system-creation as procrastination

Creating a wiki can be a daunting task. You might decide it's not for you, and that's okay. But you might also decide to go headlong into the process and work on every minute detail, and that is also okay, but.

But.

Beware of using your wiki as an excuse to procrastinate your actual writing/session preparation. Yes, use it to keep track of all the lore you've injected into your manuscript/campaign/whatever, just make sure it stays in its place as a companion to your main project rather than becoming your main project.

How formal should your entries be?

Honestly this one's entirely up to you. I have a mix. Some entries are written like Wikipedia entries with a thorough explanation of the topic with proper punctuation and formatting, while others are simply bullet-point lists of thoughts and ideas that I can return to at a later date.

~ definitely doesn't let arguments go easily , but he definitely loves that mini distraction and some stress relief (ifykyk).

Steve Randle (Goofy ass mf)

“Steve I don’t know why this is a big deal to you honey” you say in a calm and settle voice trying to calm him down. To your dismay he is still not happy about the situation at all, “No you can’t just throw stuff out like that, what if I still wanted it? Then what?”. You rub your hands down your face unamused by his ridiculous behavior, “Steve that shit has been sitting out for days now, I would’nt of let you eat it anyways”. Steve starts pacing back and forth in the kitchen thinking of something to say to “win”, then a new idea comes to mind which will end this banter once and for all. “Are you still mad Steve?”, he turns around abruptly “of course im still mad—”. Your shirt is lifted up giving Steve a good view for a few more seconds before you drop the fabric down, “how about now?”. Steves lips are parted still looking in the same direction where your breasts were once on full display, he glances up, “what you say baby?”. “Come here Steve”, Steve walks over his hands grabbing your face about to kiss your lips, “I’ll make you more ok?”. Steve pecks your lips a few times before replying, “Ok baby”.

~ he will probably purposely start arguments so you can flash him more often, obviously you'll catch on and ignore his attempts.

Dallas Winston (mama im in love with a criminal)

Dally pulled you into his room at Buck’s obviously pissed over a encounter downstairs. “Why the fuck didn’t you call me over, I could’ve easily handled that fucker” he says holding onto your wrist you guys nearly face to face. You pull back from him forcing him to release the grip he had on you, “He was just having  a conversation with me Dallas. Whats your problem?”. Dally runs his fingers through his hair while backing up instinctively, “ That motherfucker was practically undressing you with his eyes. Let me see him even glance at you again I swear y/n”. Dally turns around and slams his hands on his dresser with his head down. Your fed up, Dally is fed up why not end this right now, you walk up behind him and tap his shoulder. “What?” he says still not looking at you, quickly you throw off your shirt as well as your bra, “Dally can you look at me baby?”. Dally sighs but complies none-the-less, a smirk graces his face beautifully as his hands make contact with your chest. “Trying to cheer me up doll?” you kiss him deeply making Dally stumble back a little. “Im always yours Dally not some random guy”.

You canceled plans on Soda, work asked you to stay late, the more hours the better especially because some of that money is going toward Sodas family. You walk into the empty Curtis house where only the shower is running, Sodas clothes are laid on the couch. You sigh and drop your bag down, taking off your shoes and getting into comfier clothes. The water stops running, you walk over to the door and knock on it softly, “Soda? Can I talk to you honey?”. The bathroom door opens showcasing Soda with just a towel wrapped around his waist, “Sure hopefully you wont cancel our conversation next”. He walks past you and into his room rifling through his drawers for socks and a pair of boxers, you tread behind him leaning on the door frame. “I took the extra hours so I could help you and your family” Soda groans because he knows he shouldnt be upset over it. “I know but I can still be disappointed, we havent been able to be alone for weeks now”. You smile lifting your shirt over your head about to ask him to turn around, “Come on Soda can you at least look at me?” you say walking up closer to him. Soda turns around sighing, his eyes widens and he stutters over his words a little at the surprise, “Baby, you look..gorgeous”. actually thats why ive been censoring swears in comics lately because the tmnt fandom comes across to me as a little young...IDK I've had MULTIPLE people ask me what "sodomize" means because of the joke in this post and I'm like... I Cannot be the one to explain this to you. you have to look it up on your own klfsdhsdg like i wouldn't be doing this if i were doing a comic for mgs or even homestuck wherein the characters textually swear constantly LOL but sometimes u gotta change tacks depending on the faces u see in the crowd yknow.

i HAVE been thinking abt drawing nsfw of sunspot/richard rider/kobak from x-men red just because that comic seemed to be really asking for it. who knows.. if the need rly arises maybe my separate account policy will change.

its rly more a matter of the fact that i havent read/watched much of any other iterations... im sure id like most lol. I like most things related to my interests regardless of quality. i rly like the marvel ultimate alliance games for instance. sometimes seeing my fave guy is enough he doesnt have to be well written LOL. i dont exactly have a wealth of free time tho thats the real impediment.

i did watch the 2007 movie on new years eve and found it quite charming overall. and i have read about 30-40 issues between the mirage and idw comics. still feels like im barely scratching the surface but i liked em. i rly want to read all the sophie campbell stuff bc i think her work is interesting. jason aaron will be a mixed bag i think lmao. i say as the worlds biggest Wolverine and the X-Men (2011) fan.

hmm this is kinda hard bc i feel like i naturally draw very loose and the hard part for me is tightening it up. maybe some suggestions tho...

1) hand excercises. i think its easy to forget this when many artists sit in front of the computer all day but drawing is a physical activity u do with ur actual...bodys...muscles lol. if u feel urself tightening up it might help to strech (any google search for "artist hand excercises" should yield good results) or do a page of loose practice strokes like..big circles. long lines. scribbles. that kinda thing. whatever feels good for ur hand. this is also just good to do as a general warm up before u sit down for any drawing sesh.

2) draw further away from the canvas. as a general rule...when ur painting traditionally you do the big strokes with your whole arm outstreched and a long handled brush. and when you do the details its smaller wrist movements and a shorter handled brush. so it might help to take a step back or push back from ur chair a little.. or hold ur tablet a little further away. and hold your pen further away from the nib.

3) change mediums / brush types. some brushes and mediums are more suited to loose sketching and some more inclined towards detail work. so changing ur tool could help. also! i personally have this problem where sometimes if im using a brush i feel really familiar with the pressure to make a "good" "finished" "perfect" drawing is greater... if i want to force myself to loosen up ill switch to a tool i dont use as often so it feels like the pressure is off. a lot of times for me this is switching from digital to traditional. but sometimes its switching from a small pen to a big marker. or a smooth pen to a textured one. or a nice brush to a shitty dried up marker.

but also every body is different so i dont think these tips will work for everyone. u should listen to what ur body and mind tell u and how drawing feels to you

well. scott mcclouds understanding comics and making comics are good books on the craft. i think i had to buy them for a class in art school once.

other than that idk just keep at it. comics are really laborious i think for a lot of people the hardest part is sitting down and doing it.

i think a lot of people have a very instinctive understanding of how to read comics and what they look like so whatever you think seems like good way to tell the story you have in mind, its probably right. if u get stuck, study comics that have done something similar. most people in comics are relatively self taught and actually it can be problematic bc you can tell when a lot of comic artists are all copying the same like 5 old white guys LMAO. but on the flip side if you make sure to reference and study broadly your comics will almost assuredly feel unique.

but i suppose 'delightfully flavored chaos' is the best way to put it, as you can tell from the above. when it comes to writing stuff, I generally only really use a loose outline, with maybe a box or two that absolutely has to be checked. it's mostly because I sort of like letting my fingers...just kinda go where they want. Letting the story 'write itself', ifykyk. There's no real eloquent way for me to put this, but I think the easiest way to put my thought process while writing waxing moon is:

"ok how do i do the silly haha before traumatizing the shit outta my readers. and the reader. and aventurine."

wait...that's not quite right either (and also my thoughts obviously got a shitload darker than that). Actually, now that I think about it, I should've started with this. if there's a single quote I had to point to that singlehandedly influenced my writing, it's this:

"The longer and more carefully we look at a funny story, the sadder it becomes." - Nikolai Gogol

so...while i of course don't strictly adhere to this (since writing must fit its rhetorical situation), it's something I really love to do and try to do often. even if it's just a single sentence, a single word...to interject something of amusement is to give levity and a smile. but in the right circumstances, amusement becomes twisted, and even used against you. you read of a man's suffering, to which there is a single quip that has you smiling; and then, do you stop? do you stop to think: 'do I smile at this man's misery?' in other words, amusement, or 'funny things' in a story has a wide variety of uses. my favorite way to use it is to place it in a situation where it feels like it just shouldn't be there but is; and at the moment it feels like a relief, but of course, the narrative still continues. and that single moment of normalcy, of levity, it then highlights the absurdity, horror, etc. of the rest of the narrative.

but i also enjoy writing scenes where there's a strong sense of hopelessness and fatality looming over.

with my yan fics, I sort of wanna make my reader feel like both the spectator but also be in the story; I don't think this is a particular novel thing amongst us yan authors, but it's something I try to keep in mind and adhere to. I want them to feel unsettled, happy, amused, etc. But most importantly, with these stories, I want to leave them with a sort of confusion. to read a story so, so twisted, yet with a brutal softness to it...i just love it when fiction gives me complicated feelings about something, and it's something I hope to at least partially emulate lmao

idk. ig that wasn't really talking about my thought process in exact, but that's the closet thing I can come up with. metacognition hard.

(side note: i don't actually read gogol, but I am interested in at least reading the 'overcoat'. it seems to include the themes of mundanity that I just love *mwah* but I'm also too lazy to go ahead and download a pdf or something. Plus. i found a book called legends and lattes where an ogre starts a coffee shop in a fantasy realm. it looks great and I'm getting my hands on it as soon as I can)

this is probably something i should've clarified a bit more, but I decided against it at the time since I wrote this assuming the reader read destroyed onset; basically, I've carried over the 'ink' metaphor from it. it's actually pretty simple: ink is just 'fear,' but an especially potent one. thick and slimy, oozing its way down your back and just being nasty in general......a fear that may come to drown and burn you.

again, i probably should've been more clear, esp in this fic, but I when I was writing onset, I made it a bit more vague since I thought it was just. way too obvious and didn't want to feel like I was directly telling my readers and spoonfeeding them symbolize like they're toddlers. i was basically worried that I might've not been trusting y'all enough 😭 I wouldn't say that this series is like some. super duper cryptic puzzle you'll have to study for years to understand, but ofc I don't want to make it too easy, otherwise it's not as fun to pick and prod at the details and think about a fic if it's just too "obvious," at least to me.

Yeah, and i can see why. im not gonna go on a psychoanalysis tangent or anything, but since so many of us fantasize about a yandere for the idea of being wanted or....or just not having to work or pay for rent....it's definitely really easy to indulge in it in a romantic aspect.

I hated the tr ending so badly. Not because it was rushed or anything. Wakui could have fleshed out the last timeline so thoroughly and logically and I would still hate it because the ending itself goes against what I felt the story stood for in the first place. He replaced all the characters for fakes, none of the characters we were intoduced to had happy endings because they either are totally different people or re lived their life to avoid healing. The ending basically proved izanas last words right "there's no saving me" yeah I guess not if the only way to help everyone is to make sure their lives never happened the way it did. Horrible I hate it so much. Also one ship I hate is rinzu or ranzu because they don't even interact once and it's so popular for no fucking reason other than "its hot" and tbh they would prolly hate eachother like petty bitches, they would NOT get along at any point. I think you're the first person who has the same opinion as me lmao😭. I also didn't believe it should have had an ending like that at all because of the themes that had been set up during the entire story. I understand people's perspectives of "It's Wakui's manga and it's his ending he can do what he wants" but media is supposed to be talked about, discussed and even criticized at times. That's like, the whole point of publishing stuff. As an enjoyer and supporter of Wakui's manga, I feel like I have the right to question some inconsistencies and contradictions (not directly attack him tho, that's never okay. like people who send death threats over ships and stuff that's messed up) that showed up in the ending. I also believe lots of people didn't really take it seriously as a manga idk. It had some very serious topics that people seem to forget about. For example: suicide, abuse, abandonment, child neglect, substance abuse, extreme violence, rape, prostitution etc, and I think people just kinda see it as a silly manga that has cool characters they like. And that's okay. It's okay to not take a piece of media seriously and enjoy it for the sake of enjoying it, not everything needs to be critically analyzed, but stop shitting on the people who take it seriously enough to question why the fuck it ended how it ended. Lots of the discourse took place between critical analysers who wanted an author to finish the manga by sticking to the themes and messages he has set up the entire time versus casual enjoyers who just wanted everyone to be happy for the sake of liking the characters. And I completely agree with the Izana thing!!!! You cannot claim to have saved someone by rewriting their entire life!!! Takemitchy was not supposed to be god!! Also, isn't the moral story of time travel that you should never ever do it? Because you win some, you lose a whole lot fucking more. I thought Draken dying was setting up that narrative. That saving Mikey, was gonna fuck up a whole lot. Isn't that why Chifuyu broke down?

Idk about you guys, but dark impulses being a curse disappointed me quite a bit. I thought it was supposed to be a symbol of Mikey being deeply mentaly ill. And that he had to deal with it head on and not run away all the time (this was Takemichi's entire storyline basically and the the main theme of TR). I just feel like it sucked because the message of the ending, whether Wakui intended it or not, was that you can't be fixed without magical time traveling. Although the story had some fictional aspects, it was realistic at least. I thought they'd deal with everything that wasn't time travel realistically.

Any ship with Sanzu and the Haitani's is hilarious to me and although I don't ship any of them seriously, the fanarts fun to look at some time (and you're right I think they look good together cause they're hot😭). You are completely correct about them not liking each other tho. It's actually canon. Idk if you remember during the three deities fight when Ran hit Haruchiyo with his baton? Nothing but pure malice between their eyes😭. The Koko and Akane ship actually triggers me because one thing about me? I'm not comfortable with large age gaps. Akane was 5 years older than Koko💀. And I didn't know people took what she said to him seriously. I thought she was just trying to not hurt his feelings? Koko and Inupi were around 7/8 when the fire happened. Meaning Akane was like 12/13. Uhhh Idk bout y'all but I don't think a 13 yo would be attracted to someone that young. And waiting for them to be of age is...😶. Be fr.

Mm. Not exactly? I mostly read fictional books that have abuse and trauma as, like, themes, but which aren't necessarily only about those things. i guess i can rec you some of those if that's what you're interested in.

but if you want like, nonfiction stuff, then there is this google drive that a guy gave me and it's full of csa/sa/childhood trauma/trauma healing books, articles, and workbooks. some pdfs and some epubs i think.

Ive had this idea of yandere!five kidnapping you and diego finding you and feeling like needs to save you. Idk why but its been in my head all week 😭

warnings: mentions of kidnapping, dark/yandere themes, some villain!Five mentions, Diego here is a good guy, the end of the story remains uncertain, Diego/Lila relationship, Lila/Reader&Diego/Reader just friends.

oh my! i really love ur idea!! just imagine...Five, who actually spent his whole life trying to save people he loves from any disaster and Diego, who's basically suffering from hero complex 24/7. two overprotective guys who will do anything to save you! but there are some differences... let's start with Five.

Number Five

Well, you didn't specify if Diego here yandere too, so I'll only describe Five as one.

So, I don't think Five has a hero complex. Yes, he practically gave up all his basic human needs just to finally make sure that these 6 assholes do not die, but he didn't do this because he considered his destiny to be a hero for them, he saw the death of loved ones. He literally has no other choice. And I don't think Five ever told them how he saved them in the end of season 2. He's fine and satisfied when all of them are safe and sound.

I think that he would kidnap you only if you are in great danger, for example, someone from the Commission, or maybe The Handler herself is interested in you, which is why one of her goals will be to harm you, to kill you and possibly torture you. Actually, do something that you 100% wouldn't like, and obviously Number Five wouldn't like it too.

You shake your head, crossing your arms over your chest, looking skeptical about all this weird story. A visible annoyance and displeasure on your face due to the fact that you were literally offered to forget about your career and personal life, it was not surprising when you began to refuse his offer.

After a moment, you began to laugh quietly, turning away from Five so that he wouldn't notice your silly reaction to his words. Does he even understand what that sounds like?

“Do you have any idea how serious I am right now?” Five says, pinching the bridge of his nose.

“What you're suggesting is not serious, Five,” you click your tongue. “What will I tell my friends? 'Excuse me, I have to pretend to be dead for God knows how long while I'm being chased by a space-time organization with a hundred highly dangerous assassins ready to kill me at any moment' ?”

“Why not?” he asks, it was obvious that he still didn't understand your main issue.

“Look, Five,” you sigh heavily. “I'm not even part of the Academy, you know? All these fights, escapes from one world to another...all of this stuff is not for me. Unlike you, I never lived as a hero, I'm just an ordinary person with boring problems.”

You rub your temples tiredly, trying to calm down, while there was a tense silence between you at this time. You didn't pay attention to how amazingly quiet Five was, perhaps you didn't notice because of how much you wanted to avoid conflict and not hurt his feelings at the same time.

“I wasn't a hero either,” he calmly replies to you, pausing a little, while he steps closer to you. “And I’m not sure I ever will be one.”

You turn your gaze to him, looking confused by his response, but you remain quiet, not sure what to say to that. Five comes up to you and just hugs you, pulling you closer to him.

“But if I get a guarantee that you'll be safe,” Five whispers softly in your ear, his grip on you tightens visibly. “Then I have no other choice then to be a villain.”

Number Two

And right after that, here we are, Diego appears on stage.

I don't think Five would tell anyone about you, because first of all, taking care of you is Number Five's private business, not Two's.

But the rest of the Umbrella Academy clearly knows of your existence, maybe just as one of Five's friends, maybe as a lover or just the person who somehow gets along really well with him, so it would be strange of Diego not to start worrying about your sudden disappear, since you were just a civilian with no superpowers.

And we all know that under the watchful eye of this lovable version of Batman nothing can escape.

Diego stared at Five, leaning back in his chair. It seems as if he is now going through that difficult period of his life at the Academy again, when Number Two played the role of an independent hero who always suspected everyone, only this time, he didn't know if his guesses were true.

Five seemed to be just ignores this man, too busy for now, while he makes some peanut butter and marshmallow sandwiches.

“Are you going to stare at me like that all day?” Five asks.

“Where are they?” Diego spins his knife in one hand, narrowing his eyes, now he doesn't even try to hide the fact that he watches every single one Five's action.

“Since when do you care about their whereabouts?” Five barely noticeably frowns at the mere mention of it, but carefully hides his real emotions.

Diego suddenly stands up and quickly walks towards Five, grabbing his arm, stopping him from doing any further, having all of his attention.

“I know there's definitely something wrong here,” Number Two leans a little lower towards Five. “And I will-”

“Good luck,” Five scoffs, taking a tray of food before he quickly disappears from Diego's grasp, leaving the frustrated 'detective' all alone.

Let's be honest, I don't think anyone would be interested in your missing. Perhaps your family would have definitely applied for your search, and then Diego somehow found out about it, having old connections, but the Hargreeves rarely even worrying about each other, and even less about you.

You are very, very lucky that Diego will be the only one who is genuinely interested in finding you and helping you.

Diego has years of experience as a superhero who works alone, but it will be very difficult for him to find you by himself, so he would use the help of Lila in his heroic journey, because we are talking about Number Five, who have more intellect and experience than Diego.

Lila would be useful, given that she also worked for the Commission and may know all the habits they were taught there. Diego, on the other hand, was also worked some time on the Commission, even though not for too long, but he was definitely able to learn something there.

Lila coughs softly, trying to somehow brighten up this awkward silence between them.

“So, you really think shorty can do this?” the woman put her hands on her hips, tilting her head slightly to one side. “I mean, he’s really crazy, but not that much.”

The man only gestures for her to be quiet, these two tried to get to you as carefully as they can and without too much noise.

“I'm not sure, okay?” Diego hisses softly at her before continuing going forward, leaving Lila behind him despite her protests to go ahead with him. “Just believe me.”

Lila shrugs and runs up to Diego, now walking beside him.

“Yeah, I believe you and all,” she huffs, slightly puffing out her cheeks playfully. “But I don’t really like the idea of fighting this tiny bastard again.”

Number Two fell silent for a moment, when suddenly he stopped in front of the door, tugging at the handle, trying to open it.

“Come on, tough guy, use your power,” he hears the teasing voice of his companion from behind, and Diego quietly muttered something under his breath, but took this idea into account, and with a few strong kicks, he was able to open the previously locked door.

The door opened with a quiet creak, and your two rescuers slowly entered the room, quickly looking around, hoping to find and pick you up as soon as possible.

Luckily for them, you were there, but unconscious, wrapped warmly in the blankets that surrounds you. Diego quickly rushed to you, standing over your sleeping figure and began to shake your shoulders, trying to wake you up.

“Come on, come on, wake up,” he keeps repeating this over and over again until you sleepily open your eyes.

You were tired, still half awake, and unable to accurately process your surroundings. You blinked a few times, placing one hand on Diego's chest, slowly coming to your senses.

“Diego?” you say hesitantly, looking at Lila. “No-no, you shouldn't be here...You need to go now.”

“We didn't just make it this far and then leave you here,” you feel Lila's hand on your waist, trying to lift you up from bed.

You shook your head again, now panicking as the couple tried to drag you out of the room despite your weak protests and warnings about what might comes next if they wouldn't leave now.

The room lit up with blue light only for a second before your captor arrived with a new tray of food for you. Silence once again filled the room and all of you looked at each other, waiting for the next step.

The tray fell down with a loud crash, landing somewhere slightly away from you, making you flinch at the surprise and loud noise.

“What the hell is going on here?” Five says every word with anger, still standing in place, blocking the way and not letting anyone out.

Lila looks at Diego expectantly, to which the man leaves you in the arms of his companion, while he approaches Five..

“What you're doing is wrong, you literally kidnapped them against their will,” he points at you. “But you still have a chance to make things right, Five.”

Number Five grabs Diego by the collar, causing him to lean down.

“Listen to me carefully, you idiot. All I did was protect them until you break here and put them in danger, which was actually a really dumb decision,” Hargreeves continued to swear, but soon pushes Diego away from him and has already headed in your direction to pick you up, until this desperate poor man with a hero complex didn't stand in front of you.

“I don't want to fight you,” Diego says, practically begging but still standing his ground. This draws a disapproving reaction from Number Five, making him roll his eyes in annoyance.

“So do I.”

I mean I say I chose to vote for the cabins because I'm emotionally compromised, but to be absolutely clear, it's not the only reason, I'm not just being sentimental here

Look, Tango is clearly a better builder than Techno and Phil and the Citadel is one of the best demonstrations of that (altho not the best IMO, I actually think his s9 starter base was more impressive; not in terms of scale obviously, but in terms of the artistry and originality)

But I also feel very strongly about the fact that building skill isn't the only thing that matters, often what I personally value more than impressive builds is what the builds are for, what they mean, what stories they tell, what their history is

The Citadel is amazing but it's also hollow, it's basically just a façade. I mean it didn't need to be anything else, it would have been a complete waste of time to fill the whole thing with pointless rooms. Maybe if Tango had had more time or a whole team to help him they could have done that and maybe even made it part of the experience; maybe hid some lore into the castle, maybe even some shards, who knows. But it wasn't necessary and he didn't have the time, it's fine

Still, that does affect my view of it, because it really has no point other than to look cool

Meanwhile everything about the cabins feels lived in and real and full of history and stories and meaning. All the clutter, all the bits that got a bit messed up, all the ways in which they were adapted along the way, like adding basements and the bridge and even Phil's cabin itself, and how everything has a reason to be there, whether it's a practical reason, a sentimental reason, or a silly reason

It feels real because it is real, it might be digital but it's a place where people lived, in Minecraft

I mean yes to be fair the Citadel also has some stuff like the two big entrance halls and then later adding the waiting room and the practice rooms, and also the backstage has its own life very much in the way the backstage of a theme park attraction would have

Which kinda is what Decked Out is, isn't it? A really really cool theme park attraction

And that's partly why most of the Citadel is empty, because it's not actually a citadel, it IS a façade

So basically I guess what I'm saying is that this is like asking if the castle in Disneyland is a better building than some guy's log cabin in the woods where he lives with his friends and hides fugitives from the law, like idk man, by what standard?
