How would WMLP M’Gann and Dick react to being called brainwashed? How would Kaldur, Conner and Artemis react to being accused of being brainwashed?

Maaaaaaaaaan. That would be a loaded accusation.

I mean I suppose it's depend on who is saying it. Like they all kind of have certain people who could say it to them and get away with it.

For the most part Artemis would be blatantly angry about it. As far as she's concerned she's perfectly reasonable and moral and everyone else is wrong. The best someone could say is that she is now much more willing to do things largely regarded as 'bad' and that she's actively living with Jade. Like she isn't necessarily brain washed in any capacity but she's very willing to break and bend rules for her cause, because she thinks it's justified.

M'gaan would meet the accusation with like. Vague annoyance. Because like duh. Bee literally had her telepathy turned against her. Like she would acknowledge that she has been brainwashed in the sense that Bee has physically done that. But she'd also be pissed because what the hell is she supposed to do about it? Cry? She's better off just making the best of her situation. What she doesn't realise is that's literally brainwashing talking, she's not subverting it.

Conner would be a bit insulted because like. He's still him. He actively hates everything about this situation he just kinda has no choice in the matter. Conner actively thinks that he got the best possible treatment out of the six of them. He hasn't been brainwashed, he's the equivalent of a dog with a shock collar.

Kaldur would just kind of shrivel up and die inside about it. He doesn't want any of this and he is so mad at himself for letting this all have such a big effect on him. As far as he's concerned he isn't actually facing any real hardship, he's just not allowed to do things. He thinks his reaction to everything is wildly disproportionate. Which is because of the brainwashing.

Dick would start throwing fists. No that's probably a bit of an exaggeration. But he would not be happy about it and he would be ready to fight about it. Because anyone calling him brainwashed is coming from the perspective of 'you used to be better and now someone has ruined you and if you just let us help you we could fix you, it's not you're fault you poor baby here let the adults handle it's which sets off most of his triggers. Because of the brainwashing. Y'know how it is.

Kaldur’s having some flashbacks

The thing about young justice more than likely being over that upsets me the most is Kaldur. If YJ is over then that is it for his character. Say what you want about Jackson being similar to him, but they are not the same character at all. Kaldur does not exist in the comic books, he just doesn’t. We won’t get to run to the comics to read about where his story goes. We won’t get to see how his relationship with Wyynde progresses. We won’t get to see how he balances being Aquaman when there are now two other people who share that title with him. We just get nothing. This is the same bullshit Razer and Aya fans had to deal with when GLTAS was canceled. I’m feeling too much grief to be angry at this point.

You know, I think one of the most complex ways Greg incidentally wrote Kaldur is when M’Gann broke his mind and when she finds him in the ruins, he is faceless and doesn’t know who he is anymore.

Now being faceless has many interpretations but one of the ones that really connect to my analysis of faceless Kaldur is that when someone is seen as faceless, it can mean that you never know who they truly are as a person because they refuse to show you.

Again, this is very important for Kaldur’s arc in Season 2 because he’s been lying and pretending to be someone else—a horrible person at that is so opposite of his true self—for the past year, hiding behind facade after facade for the greater good. So him being faceless in that scene represents just how much he’s been hiding away from people and lying so no one can see the truth.

But there’s another layer as it is Kaldur himself who sees himself a faceless and in his own eyes, doesn’t know who he is beyond the masks he wears. He even tells M’Gann that he is ruined, what is left for him as he can’t even begin to understand who he is as a person.

Like it is obviously talking about him being a spy and all, how he is backstabbing everyone to save them, destroying everything he ever loved so the act can be flawless. This performance has to sell because he can’t risk being outed as a actor.

But in the ruins of his mind, we can see for the first time how this is actually affecting him, how all the costumes and performance have left him…without a face, without a true self, that he doesn’t know who is he beyond all of his charades.

And that isn’t just a metaphor for how the mission has gone for Kaldur, it just how Kaldur has moved throughout his entire life, how he perceives and who he is as a person. Kaldur is a leader, a solider and faithful to the cause…but who is Kaldur’ahm?

Without those titles, who is he? Without these descriptions and honorifics and status, Kaldur is just….no one.

He is faceless because without his duties and responsibilities, in his mind, he is no one because all of those things are what make him. Kaldur’s achievements and even his shortcomings are who he think he is.

So when stripped of everything, he is bare, open and…nothing. He is a nobody and no one remembers the nobody’s face, now do they?
