James: because you do.
Regulus: no I don’t.
Remus: you’re top Spotify artist was Adele.
Sirius: don’t forget Conan Grau in second!
Peter: I think you just love sad music.
Regulus: shut up Peter. I don’t love sad songs, I love songs about romance.
James: you love love songs?
Regulus: don’t think about writing me one.
James: who says I haven’t already?
Regulus: THE SONGS YOU SING IN YOUR BAND ARE ABOUT ME?
Sirius, James, Remus and Peter: WHO ELSE COULD HE WRITE “I want to live with you forever and kiss you forever” ABOUT!!!!!!

“The astral light is projected by glance, by voice, and by the thumb and palm of the hand. Music is a potent auxiliary of the voice, and hence comes the word 'enchantment.'”

preaching to the choir here, but falling in love with a band and their music is probably what has kept me alive and going. 💖

Hi! Just wanted to pop over and tell you how much I LOVE your stories and the way that you write! I love it all: the angst, the humor, the amazing way that you shape your characters, EVERYTHING! ALSO I love the way that you weave music into your stories. I am curious to know how music influences your writing/how it factors into your writing process. Do you associate certain songs/artists with stories/characters that you write? Lots of love, and thanks for sharing your beautiful stories! xo KP
Ahh what a delightful comment and question to answer! Thank you so much. Music is a HUGE part of the creative process for me. I’m almost always listening to it (other than when I’m actually writing b/c it’s too distracting - ha!) and lyrics, melodies, or just the feelings certain songs evoke can build pictures in my mind. I’ve definitely launched entire stories on the backs of songs -- particularly Bending Light and Unexpected Best Night Ever. BL was predicated on a lyric by an indie/emo band called Pinegrove that goes, “What’s the worst that could happen? End of summer and I’m still in love with her,” which just encapsulated Draco’s whole mindset plus the summer setting of that story. UBNE is all about Draco being a rockstar and is named after a sadly now-defunct YouTube Music playlist that I loved. Teach Me How to Forget is named after a Jason Isbell song and very influenced in tone and spirit by the album Harry’s House by Harry Styles. Just Like Christmas is an old-fashioned songfic based on the classic indie Christmas tune by Low. And sometimes when I’m writing a scene, a song will inform it so completely that I listen to it on repeat to keep myself in the zone. Never Tear Us Apart by INXS and Pitseleh by Elliot Smith come to mind for different scenes in Bending Light. And I’m convinced T Swift wrote Snow on the Beach for a scene in Falling Dark (LOL).
AND in the non-fic arena, I just finished my second OC novel and it’s about musicians -- one famous and one his biggest fan -- who have to live next door to each other for a summer and try (for various reasons) not to fall in love. I’m shopping it around to agents now, so keep your fingers collectively crossed for me!!
Thanks again for this wonderful ask. I really enjoyed answering. xoxo ~Scully

Do anyone else's story ideas come from songs and you just think, huh, this songs lyrics perfectly described *insert character here* and/or their relationship with *insert character here*. For me it happens all the time.
For example, an idea came to me for a butters/kenny fanfic while listening to this song:
Lana Del Rey - chemtrails over the country club
"I'm on the run, with you my sweet love,
There's nothing wrong contemplating God,
Under the chemtrails over the country club. "
And another part of the song:
" You're in the wind, I'm in the water,
Nobody's son, nobody's daughter,
Watching the chemtrails over the country club. "
You cannot tell me that doesn't fit sooo well with them, I refuse any arguments.

“Magic isn’t real” okay explain to me the way that we are all made of stars, explain the way that sound works, the way that light works, the way that the same numbers appear so many times in our universe that we’ve given them names, the way that humans trace patterns in the stars, the way that the remains of organisms millions of years old have been transformed into to the screen you’re reading this on, explain to me that feeling of connection when the singer the dancer and the players are all one, explain language to me, explain the way plants turn sun into energy, explain love to me, explain the way that everything (and I mean everything) we know is all created by the fact that particles too minuscule to comprehend want so desperately to be together that they created the world, explain to me that humans find purpose and peace in chaos, explain to me how humans can see the universe and see intent in things.
Explain the universe to me and tell me that magic is not real

I’ve always imagined Regulus literally can play anything on the piano and violin. He just what’s it once and BOOM he knows it off by heart. I also think Sirius can do the exact same thing but brags about it so much that while he does it nobody is surprised. But he’s regulus does it they’re all like HOW THE FUCK CAN YOU DO THAT. And he just goes “idk”. I love Regulus and Sirius so much.
Funny to see how my brain goes form one thing to another.

Witchy tip for my musicians out there: try turning songs into spells and use your instrument of choice as a tool for casting your magick.
For example: I like to play my guitar as a means of sound cleansing and/or bringing in cheerful energy.
