We Are No Strangers to Human Suffering, but We’ve Seen Nothing Like the Siege of Gaza
Dec. 11, 2023 | Source: New York Times Op-ed
Tumblr media
By Michelle Nunn (CARE USA), Tjada D’Oyen McKenna (Mercy Corps), Jan Egeland (Norwegian Refugee Council), Abby Maxman (Oxfam America), Jeremy Konyndyk (Refugees International), and Janti Soeripto (Save the Children U.S.)
We are no strangers to human suffering — to conflict, to natural disasters, to some of the world’s largest and gravest catastrophes. We were there when fighting erupted in Khartoum, Sudan. As bombs rained down on Ukraine. When earthquakes leveled southern Turkey and northern Syria. As the Horn of Africa faced its worst drought in years. The list goes on.
But as the leaders of some of the world’s largest global humanitarian organizations, we have seen nothing like the siege of Gaza. In the more than two months since the horrifying attack on Israel that killed more than 1,200 people and resulted in some 240 abductions, about 18,000 Gazans — including more than 7,500 children — have been killed, according to the Gazan health ministry. More children have been reported killed in this conflict than in all major global conflicts combined last year.
The atrocities committed by Hamas on Oct. 7 were unconscionable and depraved, and the taking and holding of hostages is abhorrent. The calls for their release are urgent and justified. But the right to self-defense does not and cannot require unleashing this humanitarian nightmare on millions of civilians. It is not a path to accountability, healing or peace. In no other war we can think of in this century have civilians been so trapped, without any avenue or option to escape to save themselves and their children.
Tumblr media
Most of our organizations have been operating in Gaza for decades. But we can do nothing remotely adequate to address the level of suffering there without an immediate and complete cease-fire and an end to the siege. The aerial bombardments have rendered our jobs impossible. The withholding of water, fuel, food and other basic goods has created an enormous scale of need that aid alone cannot offset.
Global leaders — and especially the United States government — must understand that we cannot save lives under these conditions. A significant change in approach from the U.S. government is needed today to pull Gaza back from this abyss.
For a start, the Biden administration must stop its diplomatic interference at the United Nations, blocking calls for a cease-fire.
Since the pause in fighting ended, we are again witnessing an exceptionally high level of bombardment, and at increasing ferocity. The few areas left in Gaza that are untouched by bombardment are shrinking by the hour, forcing more and more civilians to seek safety that does not exist. Over 80 percent of 2.3 million Gazans are now displaced. The newest Israeli offensive is now forcing them to cluster on a tiny sliver of land.
The bombardment is not the only thing brutally cutting lives short. The siege of — and blockades surrounding — Gaza have led to a critical food scarcity, cutoffs of medical supplies and electricity, and a lack of clean water. There is barely any medical care to be found in the enclave and few medications. Surgeons are working by the light of their mobile phones, without anesthetics. They are using dishcloths as bandages. The risk of waves of waterborne and infectious disease will only grow in the increasingly overcrowded living conditions of the displaced.
One of our colleagues in Gaza recently described their struggle to feed an orphaned infant who had been rescued from the rubble of an airstrike. The baby had not eaten for days after her mother’s death. Colleagues could only scrounge up powdered milk — not formula, not breast milk, and not a nutritionally suitable infant food — to help stave off her starvation.
Before the war, hundreds of truckloads of aid were needed each day to support Gazans’ daily existence. Only a trickle of that required aid has made it into Gaza in the two months since the war began. But even if more were allowed in, our work in Gaza is dependent on ensuring our teams can move safely to set up warehouses, shelters, health clinics, schools, and water, sanitation and hygiene infrastructure.
Today our staff members are not safe. They tell us they’re making the daily choice of staying with their families in one place so that they can die together or go out to seek water and food.
Among leaders in Washington, there is constant talk about preparing for the “day after.” But if this relentless bombardment and siege continue, there will be no “day after” for Gaza. It will be too late. Hundreds of thousands of lives hang in the balance today.
So far, American diplomacy in this war has not delivered on the goals President Biden has conveyed: protection of innocent civilians, adherence to humanitarian law, more aid delivery. To stop Gaza’s apocalyptic free fall, the Biden administration must take tangible measures, as it does in other conflicts, to up the ante with all parties to the conflict and bordering countries.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken once said of the war in Ukraine that the targeting of heat, water and electricity was a “brutalization of Ukraine’s people” and “barbaric.” The Biden administration should acknowledge that the same holds true in Gaza. While it has announced measures to deter violence against Palestinian civilians in the West Bank, Mr. Blinken and his colleagues should apply similar pressure to stop violence against civilians in Gaza, too.
The harrowing events unfolding before us are shaping a global narrative that, if unchanged, will reveal a legacy of indifference in the face of unspeakable suffering, bias in the application of the laws of conflict and impunity for actors that violate international humanitarian law.
The U.S. government must act now — and fight for humanity.
Ms. Nunn is the president and chief executive of CARE USA. Ms. McKenna is the chief executive of Mercy Corps. Mr. Egeland is the secretary general of the Norwegian Refugee Council. Ms. Maxman is the president and chief executive of Oxfam America. Mr. Konyndyk is the president of Refugees International. Ms. Soeripto is the president and chief executive of Save the Children U.S.

Daily update post:
On Friday, there was yet another Palestinian terrorist attack. Terrorists started shooting at Israelis near a yeshiva, and as security forces gave chase, an explosive device was set off through remote control, which shows just how sophisticated some of these terrorists are getting. Seven Israeli soldiers were injured. The explosives were homemade, and I heard one estimate that if they had been "proper," the number of casualties would have been much higher.
Tumblr media
Friday was also International Women's Day, when we asked people to remember Israeli and Jewish women, including the ones still being abused by terrorists in captivity. Here's a small round up of a few related global events... In South Africa, Jewish women marched, asking their president and government to condemn Hamas' sexual violence, protesting against the extra burden of proof demanded of Jewish women. Similar protests were held in other places around the world, among them in front of the UN headquarters in NYC. Following an Israeli request, the US, the UK and France have asked the UN's security council to have an emergency session on the UN report regarding Hamas' sexual crimes, Israel's Foreign Minister and the families of the hostages are meant to attend. But maybe the most poignant news come from the Norwegian capital of Oslo, where protesters holding up signs in support of the Israeli women held hostage by Hamas were barred from participating in the International Women's Day March by its organizers, after other participants of the march were physically stopping the group supporting the kidnapped Israeli women.
Tumblr media
Biden's recent MSNBC interview, where he's said that "there has to be another way to deal with the trauma caused by Hamas," has managed to piss off even left wing journalists here. I'm gonna pass along what one said... Biden doesn't get it. We're not fighting in Gaza to deal with trauma, this is not the equivalent of going to therapy. We're facing a terrorist organization that massacred us, rules an entire strip of land, and has turned it into the world's biggest base for terrorist activity, turned its 2.1 million people population into a human weapon, and if there is another way to make sure Israeli civilians are safe by destroying Hamas, with less casualties on the other side, let him present it in practical matters. So far, all he does is to give the vague, abstract, "Israel needs to do better," which is not a practical plan of action, and it's especially condescending, when we don't actually have historical examples of any country doing better during fights conducted under the conditions created by Hamas in Gaza.
I have written about the incident in northern Gaza, where over 100 people were killed in a stampede, as they were storming humanitarian aid trucks. It was a complex situation, in addition to those who died from the pushing and trampling (something we've seen in lots of tragic disasters around the world, which were by no means a massacre, such as a fairly well known stampede of Liverpool soccer fans), apparently some of those who died, were ran over when the (Arab) truck drivers were scared and tried to drive away from the mob, while a small number of suspicious people advanced menancingly on the soldiers. An IDF investigation report confirms the Israeli soldiers only fired at this smaller group, suspected of being terrorists, not at anyone else, and certainly not at the aid convoy itself. Of course none of this complexity was reflected in any anti-Israel propaganda posts, which labeled this a massacre. But now the size of the stampede has been confirmed as well, which in itself says a lot about this tragic chain of events: no less than 12,000 (!) Gazans were storming those aid trucks. Given the size of that crowd, it's almost a miracle that not more people were killed. Just compare the Liverpool fans stampede, where the size of the involved crowd was smaller, the situation less complex (no moving trucks or terrorists around), and the number of fatalities was practically the same, at 97 people killed.

This has got to be one of the worst things I've heard since Oct 7 brought new focus to the antisemitism problem on American college campuses. One of the morally clearest voices against this Jew hate has been a Jewish Israeli professor at Columbia University, Shai Davidai. Now apparently the uni has started an investigation into him, instead of... IDK, learning from the criticism he has raised regarding their failure to address antisemitism. They sure are doing a great job, showing Jews they're listened to and cared about, and protecting Davidai's freedom of speech, that last line of defense that all the college presidents fell back on when they had to address why calling for the genocide of Jews is not considered bullying or harassment on their campuses.

This is 100 years old Yocheved Gold (on the left, obviously).
Tumblr media
Yocheved was born in 1923 in Germany. In 1936, as a Jewish teenager who was mistaken for a Christian girl, and despite her fear, she refused to hand a bouquet of flowers to Hitler at the Berlin Olympics. Two years later, at the age of 15, she was among the last Jews to flee Europe before WWII. She managed to make it to the Land of Israel, which saved her life. On Oct 7, she was in kibbutz Sa'ad, one of the southern Israeli communities attacked by Hamas terrorists. Eighty years after antisemites first forced her to flee her home, she had to do it again, and is maybe the only Israeli evacuee to be over 100 years old. Now she has returned to kibbutz Sa'ad, even though most still haven't (as they don't feel safe from Hamas), because she said she doesn't want to die away from home.

Six children die of malnutrition in Gaza hospitals: Health Ministry
Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza has also gone out of service due to a lack of fuel for generators.
(28 Feb 2024)
Six children have died from dehydration and malnutrition at hospitals in northern Gaza, the Health Ministry in the besieged Palestinian territory has said, as the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the besieged enclave worsens.
Two children died at al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, the ministry said on Wednesday. Earlier it reported that four children died at the Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, while seven others remained in critical condition.
“We ask international agencies to intervene immediately to avert a humanitarian catastrophe in northern Gaza,” Health Ministry spokesperson Ashraf al-Qudra said in a statement, as Israel’s attacks on Gaza continue.
“The international community is facing a moral and humanitarian test to stop the genocide in Gaza.”
Kamal Adwan Hospital’s Director Ahmed al-Kahlout said that the hospital had gone out of service due to a lack of fuel to run its generators. On Tuesday, Al-Awda Hospital in Jabalia also went out of service for the same reason.
In a video posted on Instagram and verified by Al Jazeera’s Sanad verification unit, journalist Ebrahem Musalam shows an infant on a bed inside the pediatric department at Kamal Adwan Hospital, as power comes in and out.
Musalam said the children in the department are suffering from malnutrition and a lack of infant formula, and that necessary devices have stopped working due to the constant power outages as a result of fuel shortages.
instagram
Palestinian group Hamas on Wednesday said that the closure of Kamal Adwan Hospital would exacerbate the health and humanitarian crisis in Northern Gaza, which is already teetering on the brink of famine as Israel continues to block or disrupt aid missions there.
‘Killing and starvation’
On Wednesday, Israel said a convoy of 31 trucks carrying food had entered northern Gaza. The Israeli military office that oversees Palestinian civilian affairs, the Coordination of Government Activity in the Territories (COGAT), also said nearly 20 other trucks entered the north on Monday and Tuesday.
These were the first major aid deliveries in a month to the devastated, isolated area, where the United Nations has warned of worsening starvation.
Israel has held up the entry of aid into Gaza for weeks, with Israeli protesters taking part in demonstrations calling for no aid to be allowed into the territory, even as hunger and disease spread.
UN officials say Israel’s months-long war, which has killed nearly 30,000 people in Gaza, has also pushed a quarter of the population of 2.3 million to the brink of famine.
Project Hope, a humanitarian group operating a clinic in Deir el-Balah in central Gaza, has said that 21 percent of the pregnant women and 11 percent of the children under the age of five it has treated in the last three weeks are suffering from malnutrition.
“People have reported eating nothing but white bread as fruit, vegetables, and other nutrient-dense foods are nearly impossible to find or too expensive,” Project Hope said.
Tumblr media
In a joint communique on Wednesday, Qatar and France stressed their opposition to an Israeli military offensive on Rafah in southern Gaza and underlined their “rejection of the killing and starvation suffered by the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip”.
They called for the opening of all crossings into Gaza, including in the north, “to allow for humanitarian actors to resume their activities and notably the delivery of food supply and pledged jointly $200m effort in support of the Palestinian population”.
Jan Egeland, secretary-general of the Norwegian Refugee Council, also said Israel must allow aid trucks into Gaza in order to address the dire humanitarian crisis.
“Hundreds of aid trucks wait in line to cross into Gaza at the Rafah and Kerem Shalom [Karem Abu Salem] crossings to a starving civilian population,” Egeland said in a social media post, with a video showing scores of aid trucks lined up.
“There has not been a single day we have gotten the needed 500 trucks across. The system is broken and Israel could fix it for the sake of the innocent.”
Tumblr media
Medical aid group Doctors Without Borders, also known as Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), has meanwhile said that medical workers are struggling to serve hundreds of thousands of displaced people in Gaza who are living in dire conditions with nowhere to go.
“Healthcare has been attacked, it’s collapsing. The whole system is collapsing. We are working from tents trying to do what we can. We treat the wounded. With the displacements, people’s wounds have been infected. And I’m not even talking about the mental wounds. People are desperate. They don’t know anymore what to do,” MSF’s Meinie Nicolai said.

Countries supporting Israel with arms have a “permanent stain on their reputation”, the head of the Norwegian Refugee Council, a major aid agency, has said in a statement.
While condemning the 7 Octobuer attack on Israel by Hamas and demanding the release of hostages held by the militant group, Jan Egeland said Israel’s military campaign “can in no way be described as ‘self-defense.’” He said:
The pulverising of Gaza now ranks amongst the worst assaults on any civilian population in our time and age. Each day we see more dead children and new depths of suffering for the innocent people enduring this hell …
Countries supporting Israel with arms must understand that these civilian deaths will be a permanent stain on their reputation.
They must demand an immediate ceasefire in Israel and Gaza. Only a cessation of hostilities will allow us to ensure effective relief to the two million who now require it.

Tord laughed, looking down at Edd and Matt from his giant robot.
‘’Hey, Edd! Thanks for holding onto this for me!’’ He shouts, smiling from ear to ear. ‘’I’ll have to go now though. The world’s not going to take over itself!’’
‘’But I thought we were… I thought we were friends!’’ Edd shouts, salty tears quickly leaving his eyes.
The old friend he’s known for so long and cherished with all his heart, betraying him.
Just like that.
Like it never meant something for him.
‘’HA! No? What would I need friends for when I’ve got this!’’ He cackles, but stops abruptly. His eyes widening as he remembered something important.
‘’Mh. But you know... there is something- no, someone I do need.’’ He says, his eyes darting around the neighborhood. ‘’I need her.’’ He mumbles, his eyes continuing to search desperately for her.
Edd and Matt look at each other, agitated and worried.
Some seconds pass by, and the silence only becomes louder.
Everyone seems to wait for something.
...
But nothing happens.
You don’t appear.
‘’CUT!’’ The director announces, promptly standing up from his seat. His hands rubbing his lower back, as he stretched.
‘’Ugh. Where’s the main love interest? She was supposed to enter scene as soon as he said that!’’ He frowns, reading the script one more time as he shouts your name.
You jolt, head turning abruptly at the mention of your name
You looked like a deer caught in headlights, and when you made eye contact with the director, you slowly left the pastry you were about to eat back with the rest of the food on set.
‘’What?’’ You frown, ‘’I’m not supposed to enter scene yet.’’ You huff, about to take the pastry again.
Except you can't.
You feel a hand rest on your shoulder, beckoning you to turn around as you hear someone say your name soon after. ‘’The script changed’’ Paul informs you, his thick eyebrows furrowing to show his confusion ‘’Edd was supposed to tell you this morning.’’
You tilt your head, ‘’He didn’t’’
‘’I did!’’ Edd says, approaching the two of you. ‘’When we were having breakfast, remember?’’
Your eyes squint as you recall the events of this morning. When Edd was eating the promotional cereal ‘’Eddsworld’’.
‘’I just remember you talking with your mouth full.’’ You blink, ‘’You should really stop doing that by the way, we can’t understand you and you know how annoyed Tom gets after.’’ Edd laughs, nodding.
‘’I know, I know.’’ He sighs, his lips parting to comment again. But instead, he only gasps.
‘’Where’s Tom?’’
Paul eyes widens, his cigar about to fall of as he wastes no time to run to the set. Edd rushing to do the same.
‘’Oh shit. Don’t tell me you guys left him inside the debris?!’’ You panic, following after the two to help your friend out of the destroyed house.
Matt and the director were already there, lifting the remains of the house to get Tom out.
Well, the director was the one lifting. Matt was panicking as he called Tom’s name horrified.
With more of the crew helping you quickly took him out, the man with spiky hair groaning in pain.
Matt and you sigh, a bit more relieved at the sight of Tom, who was at least still conscious enough to curse.
From the corner of your eye, you see how some crew members help Tord step off the giant robot, the Norwegian running towards Tom to make sure he wasn’t badly injured.
Tord lifts him up, seating him down so a crewmate could quickly aid him.
Tom tries not to wince as he feels the alcohol-soaked cotton ball touch his injury.
‘’I didn’t receive the signal,’’ He hisses, ‘’I stayed there for whole five minutes.’’
‘’There was not clear communication.’’ The director huffs, crossing his arms. ‘’Someone forgot to inform people about the change in script.’’
Edd looks away, whistling as he kicks a pebble.
‘’Why am I not surprised…’’ You hear someone mutter
Sighing, you crouch down at Tom’s level.
‘’Tom.’’
‘’Yeah?’’ He looks your way, his tired eyes making eye contact with you.
You have a tiny smile on your face, as you lean closer to him.
Your lips parting to whisper into his ear.
‘’Idiot. I fucking told you to accept the stunt double.’’ You pull his ear

I saw a recent reply you made to an ask. I am not sure your reply and the content of the ask completely relate.
It seems like the ask was stating that the reason countries pulled funding from the UNRWA was because of accusations that some UNRWA employees were connected to Hamas and other attacks.
The screenshot the ask refers to eludes to the funding of the UNRWA being pulled because of the ICJ ruling.
UNRWA funding WAS pulled because of accusations of employees connect to Hamas and other attacks. (The screenshot does not list this as the reason for the lack of funding.)
UNRWA funding WAS NOT pulled because of the ICJ ruling. (Meaning the screenshot would be displaying misinformation.)
The misinformation in question would be the reasoning behind the pulled funding, which (the reasoning), was not because of the ICJ ruling.
I hope this makes sense? I don't know if i worded this in a way that makes sense.
The ask:
"Hi, you made a post including screenshots of several twitter posts. I was doing research on the UNRWA, and it seems that countries have pulled funding due to an accusation that some UNRWA employees were connected to Hamas and the attacks that happened on October 7th. The suspension of funding does not seem to be related to the ICJ's ruling, as one of the twitter posts in your post stated. I included a screenshot of the post I'm talking about. I'm not trying to embarrass you with this ask; I'm just letting you know that some of the info in that post seems to be wrong. A lot of people are reblogging it, and I just wanted to try to stop accidental misinformation from spreading."
I'm still so very confused here.
Cutting funds to UNRWA is form of collective punishment -doing this to already vulnerable Palestinian people fleeing IOF relentless bombings and attacks -will only continue to make things worse. I recently posted a Norwegian Foreign Minister referring to this as such.
I also included the clip of a former Israeli official Noga Arbell saying that in order to "win this war" that the UNRWA must be destroyed -it is very clear to me and many allies and Palestinian voices and activists online that this was not coincidental. The IOF has also already attacked UN buildings... what more do you need?
How reliable is "Israeli intelligence" to begin with when they have been lying consistently. I talk about this on my blog a lot, and I have addressed this MULTIPLE times. The IOF still refuses to admit they bombed hospitals (al-Ahli is the first major tragedy in Gaza -where nearly or slightly above 500 people were either injured or killed). OR another time when they said Hamas had a secret headquarters in a house where in a library they found a 'Mein Kampf' in ENGLISH, or another time they pretended to give 'aid' to al-Shifa hospital when those boxes were clearly empty. There was also the instance of them lying about finding a 'Hamas headquarters' in an MRI unit (where no electronics are supposed to be) -and this was covered by Rolling Stones recently which showed there was in fact NO base there, and the IOF lied about it.
What about when the IOF said Hamas slaughtered 2 Israeli children in their homes -we had forensic scientists online debunk this immediately with their blood spatter pattern analysis and teeth analysis. Lets also not forget the times they always tell Palestinian people it's safe to go to 'X' area and then they bomb and attack those areas (Deir al-Balah is one I can think of most recently). Horrific -absolutely horrific things the IOF has done and lied about. And the fact that MANY western and European countries are aiding, funding, and supporting this genocide is flabbergasting. And multiple people are still in my inbox telling me I'M SPREADING misinformation?? As though western and Israeli propaganda isn't the real issue here.
So I, and many people are just supposed to believe that what they claim to be is true in the first place when the zionist entity does benefit and gain from lying -and even if it was, does it justify collectively punishing millions of civilians?

Hello and I hope you are well.
I am a Norwegian-American, and the news in both my countries is filled with what basically amounts no pro-Israel propaganda and I despise it. I hope I don’t come across as ignorant or uneducated, but is there a single reason why the world leaders seem intent to ignore the genocide happening in Palestine? I’ve been reading as much as I can about the situation but I haven’t found a definite answer. (Of course, no “reason” would ever be enough to excuse standing by whilst children and innocents are slaughtered, I just can’t comprehend how anyone with a heart could watch this happen and do nothing.)
My heart weeps for the people of Palestine, and I will do everything that I can from my place in the world to aid you.
🇵🇸 ❤️🇵🇸❤️🇵🇸❤️🇵🇸❤️🇵🇸
Hello, first of all you shouldn't be afraid of coming off as "ignorant" or anything. I said before that my inbox is open for people who are looking for answers that aren't here just to be racist or hateful.
The most definitive answer here would be racism. It's so easy for Israel to share propaganda and get people to believe it, because it's so easy for westerns to fall into the "barbaric violent brown arabs" propaganda over and over. It's become so easy to label someone a terrorist for their ethnicity, it's even easier if they're Muslims. Another thing, Israel paints this as a "war" between religions, it's not. They try to show it as a fight between Judaism and Islam to get people's sympathy. When in fact, Palestine is one of the most diverse countries in the middle east. It has a huge population of Muslims, Christians and guess what? Jews. There are cities in there that are exclusively Christian such as Bethlehem. But the world believes the lies about it being Islam vs Judaism, and that Muslims are out there to kill every Jew and commit violence. Why is that so easily believed? Racism.
And you have to keep in mind that media coverage plays an important main rule in this genocide. If not for media coverage many of people outside the middle east would've never heard about gaza and Palestine. Which is why Israel spends million of dollars on pushing the narrative on social media alone. It was revealed that lots of international influencers were offered thousands of dollars if they announced their support for Israel (which is already the case with many American celebrities).
As for the governments, I will share with you this statement. People don't see genocide or ignore it and avoid admitting the severity of it because they don't see the people experiencing it as human. You have to actually acknowledge that someone deserves to live in order to acknowledge their death. I talked about the dehumanization of Palestinians here so you can know more.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not to mention the economic situation. Israel has control over so many international companies and brands. When we decided to boycott Israeli products, we were surprised to find almost every brand to be related to israel. Such as McDonald's, Starbucks, Loreal, Pepsi, and so on even things like toothpaste brands. Also israel is in control of gas and oil reserves in palestine, as well as agriculture that Palestinian aren't allowed to have a say or a part in any of those things. For western governments, Israel pays you money, why would you turn against it?

Isnotreal attacked the Iranian consulate in Syria, killing an important general in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, among others (1) (2). Isnotreal hasn't confirmed or denied blame for this attack (2).
Iran declared, Wednesday last week, that it would respond (1) (3).
my sources disagree (slightly):(NRK: The Iranian response was sending over 300 missiles and drones (3). ) (Reuters: over 200 drones and missiles, according to Israeli military spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari(2))
Most of them got cut off, according to isnotreal (3). Iran also said it was a response to multiple crimes by Israel (not just the criminal attack on the consulate) (3).
Iran's allies, including Hizbollah (according to themselves) and the Houthies (according to media), are also supposed to have attacked isnotreal (3).
The USA (Biden) is saying they are assisting isnotreals defence and side with Isnotreal strongly against Iran (3) (2) (link to statement). Donald Trump says he thinks the USA is not doing enough to support isnotreal (2). The Norwegian foreign minister condemned isnotreals attack on Iran (3). Iranians celebrate Irans attack on Isnotreal, saying "death to Israel", "death to usa", according to AFP (4). Iran warns isnotreal not to commit further crimes, or else they will respond stronger, but say they consider the matter concluded (2). Isnotreal wants the UN to move to condemn Iran's retaliation (3). Isnotreal says they will retaliate grandly (2).
Multiple news bureaus report having seen drones from Iraq (3).
The British, Usamerican and Jordanian defenses all report having shot down Iranian drones that were heading to isnotreal (3).
The NRK correspondent in Jerusalem reports having seen missiles being shot down, this being the first time in a while there's been any bombing in the area, videos from Hareetz also show this (3).
For most of the bombing isnotrealis were told to sit in bomb rooms (3). The bombings we're warned about in the app Red Alert (3).
slight disagreement between my sources here, but: (NRK: According to isnotreali ambulances there has been one injury, a ten year old was critically hurt (3).) (Reuters: According to isnotreali authorities there has been one injury, a seven year old girl was critically hurt (2))
edit: Addition that Norwegian newspaper The Class Struggle (Klassekampen) made a two pager on the attack on Iran (published Saturday 13.04.2024), predicting Irans attack and supporting the claim that 7 members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. They also added that the UK David Cameron said it would be a misstep for Iran to retaliate. (5)

Note about the quality of sources:
NRK generally seem a lot more critical of isnotreal and don't seem to fit the criticisms that have been raised about "western media", I mean I assume most of the people complaining don't even speak Norwegian so yeah, I trust NRK, NRK is btw Norway's official news agency "Norsk rikskringkasting", which is free. NRK doesn't have a rating, but Norway is considered to have "excellent freedom" of press, ranking first globally (MBFC).
Reuters is English language Western media, so I assume they are more biased in favor of isnotreal, however they have a relatively high factuality score and are said to have low bias, though with being from the UK they are only mostly free media (MBFC). Their trust principles are linked here.
Also note about this post, I am mostly translating the NRK article, I skipped some parts (mostly to make this more strictly news) and restructured some parts. This is mostly the work of the journalists in source 3.
edit:
Klassekampen is a left wing paper that I personally consider fairly reliable for Palestine. They have from the start just written more about Palestine, simply enough. Again there's no MBFC score for this paper. This article has not been debunked in the Norwegian fact checker Faktisk.no. Klassekampen has failed fact check before (at faktisk.no), usually about Norwegian politics.

Mathilde Gaarder, the Norwegian Courier
Tumblr media
Pronouns: she/her
Ambition: Nemesis! (in progress)
Profession: Tough/Postwoman
Main Stats: Watchful, Persuasive, Shadowy
Main Quirks: Melancholy, Daring, Magnanimous
Skittish yet determined, Mathilde will deliver you your latest mail, and any gossip you may find interesting.
Backstory:
Coming from the town of Narvik, Mathilde knew the power of her voice in a place as small as this. What didn't aid was her quiet and mousey nature, which made her prone to light-hearted teasing from her peers and adults alike. Her interest in the Suffrage movement came from artistic influence and noticing the inequality between her mother and father. He always brought money to the house, so why couldn't her mother do the same if she was working as hard as he did? She and a few of the other kids at school decided to form a club to spread awareness and make some kind of change, no matter how small.
It was during her activist years that she met her lover Ingrid. A woman able to to lift Mathilde up, make her shine and beam with confidence. It was a romance that, despite taboos, burned brighter than the stars. Not even the people from the city could make their love any lesser. Ingrid, however, met a bloody demise one night, and that night was the one that changed Mathilde forever.
Vengeance burned stronger than any fear that Mathilde felt. Leaving her parents behind was incredibly difficult, yet taking the leap of fate that would bring her to London proved to be one of the dumber decisions in her life. She'd never find the one who stands behind the murder of Ingrid- she's simply too mousey and not in any way intimidating...
Or is she?

Everyone In America Needs To See This Post
Photo & Video Evidence Of Illegal Immigrant Encampments & Stations PROVING The Planned & Organized Collapse Of America Organizations: - United Nations - IOM International Organization for Migration - European Union - United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund UNICEF - Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society HIAS - Red Cross - Doctors Without Borders - United Nations Refugee Agency UNHCR - Norwegian Refugee Council “And catered to by various international government and nongovernment organizations. A few on the scene include OIM, Red Cross, UNICEF, HIAS, European Union, Doctors Without Borders, UN HCR, and the Norwegian Refugee Council, who offer migrants aid and instructions on how to get to the United States. Migrants See various maps to telling exactly how to trek to the US border. This map, displayed in a highest care facility, shows the migrant the path across Panama and Costa Rica. In this footage, a highest worker can be seen explaining exactly how to cross Panama. A more comprehensive map is distributed by the Red Cross. This map not only shows multiple migration routes to the United States, but also includes rest stops across Central America and Mexico. A similar app is handed out by Medecosine Fronteras, also known as Doctors Without Borders. Perhaps the most striking form of This aid is a bag which we call a rape kit. It is handed out by the OIM in Colombia before migrants trek through the Darien Gap. The kit, which contains condoms and morning after pills, allows migrants to get more safely in the jungle. Why are all these groups encouraging migrants and aiding them on the steadily journey? Why is this happening on an organized industrial scale? And why does the US border remain wide open? In September 2015, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the 20 30 agenda for sustainable development. The agenda provides a, quote unquote, blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 sustainable development goals. Agenda 2030 outlines a blueprint for world socialism stating that we are embarking on a collective journey to build a world free of poverty, hunger, disease, and want. In a related paper by the IOM titled migration and the 2030 agenda, a clear plan for mass migration of people is presented. The report begins by stating, the 2030 agenda recognizes migration as a core development consideration, which marks the first time migration is integrated explicitly into the global development agenda and further states, quote, it is possible to link migration to every goal in the 2030 agenda. Shockingly, The report refers to migrant men, women, and children as agents of development. Finally, the report states that We should not focus efforts on trying to stop migration. Facilitating, not restricting. Migration is the priority. It is clear that this illegal migration is indeed being facilitated and encouraged. For example, UNICEF, also known as the United Nations Children's Fund, hands out these care packages at Panamanian migration camps. Notice the subtle messaging on the bag that reads, trust yourself. Delph, you can, encouraging the migrants to continue on their journey. On the back of a Red Cross map, information is given about the use of freight trains for transportation. Rather than denouncing the dangerous form of transportation, migrants are told to remain seated and look out for any branches, electrical cables, or tunnels. — There's no doubt that These groups serve as camouflage for spies, criminals, and other nefarious actors seeking to penetrate our borders undetected. Powerful organizations thousands of miles away, are facilitating the collapse of the US southern border.” I can’t transcribe this all due to X’s text limits but everyone needs to watch this.

What would happen if R Tord and S Tord subconsciously switched places? Like no one would know that they had swapped and they were free to do whatever.
Oh my god, like a mental swap instead of the fully physical ones we’ve been doing?? Good lord! Thats horrible (When it comes to R Tord swapping with S Tord at least)
First of all, R Tord would be extremely disoriented when it first happens, and of course he’d feel all kinds of fucked up because S Tord’s body has chronic pain, plus he’s older so things will feel all wonky and achy.
He’d probably throw a fit when he realizes he needs mobility aid (the leg brace and crutches) and try to think up of a way to get out of his situation and back in his own universe (because he’d be damned if this clearly incompetent version of himself ruined all his progress back home.) Besides, where the hell even is he?? Some sort of house?? Dear god, dont tell him theres a version of him who settled down somewhere to be a nobody hermit-
“Elskling?? Have you found your files yet? We really have to get back to the office now.”
That voice. That definitely shuts him up. He might be gaping a little when he turns to the door and finds Thomas of all people coming in and walking towards him. He looks older, definitely, but thats clearly Thomas, or at least a version of him.
….and he’d be lying if he said his eyes weren’t straying somewhat.
This Thomas moved with grace, his steps were light but actively aware, he carried himself with confidence and a slight haughtiness his own Thomas didn’t quite have yet. His posture nearly reflected Tord’s own, deceivingly docile but ready to move into action when needed.
This Thomas was every bit of potential he had ever seen in his own Thomas.
His hands moved on their own, reaching out in a familiar gesture he wasn’t used to, and to his surprise, Thomas willingly stepped into his hold, smiling as his arms wrapped around his neck.
“What…did you say??” He didn’t mean to speak in Norwegian, but frankly he’s a little shocked.
Thomas hummed as he looked up at him.
“Your files? You dragged me all the way back home because you needed my help finding them??”
He nearly jolted out of his skin when this Thomas replied to him in perfectly fluent Norwegian.
Suddenly he wants.
Well….maybe this whole universal mishap won’t be so bad.
A little fun is allowed.
He feels himself grin as his hands wander along this Thomas’ body. “Well…what if I lied?” He teases as he pulls him closer. “What if I might have forgotten something else??”
Thomas lets out a little purr- and wasn’t that interesting?- but he leaned his head back a bit even as Tord tries to move in.
“Cute, but no, in case you’ve forgotten, you have a public address today, Red Leader.” He nearly feels himself choke when Thomas fingers the collar of his shirt with a smirk. “But maybe later, if you feel up to it.”
Red Leader?
Oh….how fun.
Maybe this universe isn’t all that bad.
“Do you promise?”
“Of course sir.”
He knew it was probably meant to be teasing, but the rush he feels at Thomas addressing him like that nearly has him dizzy.
He gives in to his wants and pulls Thomas in for a kiss, somewhat rough but deep enough to make him breathless.
Once they break apart, Thomas seems a little winded. “Oh wow, that was…” Then he paused, biting his lower lip. Tord nudges him a little.
“Good? Great even?” He chuckles.
Thomas seems to snap out of whatever thought took him and just smiles at him. “New, more or less.” He leaned up for another kiss that Tord happily gives him. “I don’t hate it at least.”
Tord laughs and lets go of him, walking around him to get out of the room.
Tom looks after his husband’s retreating back with a frown he doesn’t see.
Something’s…..off…..
STord would probably be panicking when he comes to.
He doesn’t feel all his usual aches, his right leg doesn’t feel like hell when he puts too much weight on it, his right arm feels heavier and looks a bit clunkier than he remembered.
Also what the hell was up with his uniform?!
Why is there so much gold?? Holy fuck, he feels like a douchebag, this was the kind of design he might have vibed with when he was younger, maybe around like 15 to 17 years old, because he was a right asshole at that age, but now it was just making his eye hurt.
Fuck what the hell?! He made the mistake of giving himself a once over, jesus, he looks stupid.
One glance around him clued him in to the fact that he was at a medical ward, one that he was familiar with, a medical ward in the Red Army.
But….things were wrong.
There were slight differences, the hallway was too long, there was an extra door where there shouldn’t be, some staff members that he saw, who should have been fired a long time ago, were suddenly back and working in the wards???
Not only that, but he had this exact medical ward torn down and renovated years ago! Because they secured enough funding for a central hospital so that the HQ buildings could just have a dedicated clinic each.
What the fuck is going on???
“….Sir…?”
He snapped out of his daze when a doctor beside him hesitantly piped up. When he moved his eye toward him, the man flinched minutely, making him frown.
He knew he was intimidating, being RA’s commander, but his medical staff rarely reacted like this towards him.
“Are you here to visit the patient?”
“Patient?” His voice surprised him, it sounded less rough than what he was used to after years of tobacco abuse, he sounded younger.
Oh hell no.
He snapped his gaze towards the opaque window of the door he stood in front of, and focused his gaze, ignoring the nervous stammering of the doctor beside him.
That…..wasn’t his face.
It was, but it wasn’t.
Then the doctor said something that made him freeze.
“I-I mean, the prisoner sir. Thompson.”
…Thompson???
Prisoner?!
Tord grasped the handle of the door and barged in, slamming it in the face of the doctor who tried to follow behind him.
His breath caught in his throat at what he saw.
Tom was sitting up on a hospital bed, but his arms were strapped down by the wrists at his sides. Bandages covered his poor love- or at least a version of him, but to Tord, he was still always going to be his kjaere- almost covering any patch of skin he could see, and on the skin he could see were a litany of scars that marred his flesh.
He stopped himself from flinching when Tom looked up after noticing his presence, his eyes were sunken in, surrounded by a dark shade of black, he grinned at him, but the look was wild and cornered.
There was genuine contempt in his eyes.
Tord felt his heart ache.
Tom huffed.
“Back so soon commie prick?”
