will they wont they – dick grayson

synopsis. he had one job. but when it comes to you, dick grayson has never been good at following the rules.
contents. fluff, (implied) exes to lovers, catwoman!reader, batcat dynamic, theyre in love your honor
notes. i wanted a bruce and selina parallel except these two finally give in. this concept has been plaguing my for far too long. everyone thank blair for the idea + part 2
“And under no condition should you flirt with her,” Barbara’s voice crackles through his comms, sharp with warning. “This is a quick intel mission. You’re in and out, Nightwing.”
Dick chuckles. “Got it. Best behavior.”
Word had gotten back to the Batcave that, after Catwoman’s arrest, Catgirl was making moves to finish what her predecessor started. Even worse, there were rumors of Catwoman’s involvement in the riots of Blackgate Penitentiary. Usually, Gotham’s affairs stayed strictly in Bruce’s hands, but Dick had fought hard for this case. Maybe too hard.
“Nightwing,” Oracle’s voice falters as the group watches the hidden camera feed from his suit. “Did you… style your hair?”
Dick freezes mid-motion, his fingers still carding through his dark locks in the reflection of a nearby window.
“Dunno what you’re talking about.” He clears his throat, schooling his expression. Jason’s laughter bursts through the comms like a gunshot.
“Oh, this is priceless,” Jason wheezes. “Loverboy's got it bad.”
Dick exhales through his nose, shaking his head as he continues forward. “Can’t believe you guys planted a camera on me. Have you no trust?”
“It’s not about trust, Dick,” Bruce finally speaks, his voice cool and measured. “It’s about intelligence gathering.”
Of course. Ever the pragmatist.
Dick rolls his shoulders, trying to shake the unease creeping in. “Nah. My girl would never do anything to hurt me.” His voice dips. “Nothing I wouldn’t enjoy, anyway.”
Jason groans. “Barf.”
Oracle sighs. “Loverboy, focus.”
Dick lifts his hands in mock surrender, but his smirk lingers, betraying him. “Alright, alright.”
By the time Dick reaches the coordinates he was sent, the abandoned building seemed to be empty. Devoid of any criminal activity that was suspected.
Or at least, that’s how it looks.
Nightwing lands silently on the rooftop, scanning the darkened windows. No movement. No heat signatures. Just the city humming below, a steady pulse against the quiet.
Any amateur would enter the building to start his investigation, but Dick knew you better than that.
A slow smirk tugs at his lips.
You’re here. Somewhere. Watching.
His lips twitch. “Y’know, most people say hello first.”
Silence.
A shift in the shadows, a whisper of movement, too fast for anyone else to catch.
He’s airborne for half a second before his back slams against the rooftop. His breath escapes in a sharp huff, and before he can fully register what was happening, a warmth presses close, your weight against him, a knee braced against his ribs, gloved fingers skimming the hollow of his throat. Light. Barely there. A tease, not a threat.
“Thought I’d mix it up,” you murmur.
The moonlight frames you in silver, your mask casting half your face in shadow. He watches the way your lips quirk, the way your breath fans against his jaw, closer than necessary. Closer than you should be.
He should move. Counter. Flip you.
Instead, his fingers curl around your wrist, his thumb ghosting over your pulse point.
Dick blinks up at you, the city lights outlining the curve of your smirk.
“Well,” he breathes, grin unfazed. “You sure know how to make a guy feel wanted.”
You hum, tilting your head. “I’d say sorry, but you walked right into it.”
Your knee eases up just enough for him to shift. It’s all he needs.
With a twist, he sweeps your leg from under you, flipping them. Now you’re the one pinned, but your expression doesn’t change—if anything, your smirk deepens.
“Better,” you muse. “Almost had me there.”
“Almost?” He tuts. “You wound me.”
Then, without hesitation, you hook your leg around his waist and throw your weight into a roll. The two of you tumble, shifting control back and forth, dodging and countering, neither ever fully committing to an actual strike.
It’s a dance. One you both know by heart.
You feint left and he dodges too slow. Your fist brushes his jaw, not a real hit, just enough to make him feel it.
“You’re distracted,” you observe, eyes glinting.
He exhales, grip tightening around your wrist just enough to keep you close. “Maybe I just like having you this close.”
“Always the flatterer.”
For a moment, neither moves. Your breaths mix, city lights reflecting in your masked gaze.
Then, you blow him a kiss, fingers ghost over his lips before twisting free.
A quick, effortless slip, like smoke through his fingers. By the time he blinks, you’re already a few feet away, perched on the edge of the rooftop, ready to make your exit.
His comm buzzes. Jason’s voice, laced with amusement: “Tell me you’re at least trying to win.”
Dick ignores him.
Instead, his eyes flick toward the shadows. "C’mon, sweetheart, you really want it to end so soon?" He calls, the playful edge to his voice betraying the pulse of something more intense. “I’m starting to have fun.”
“Yeah?” You step into the moonlight, half a step in front of him. “You’re losing, horribly.”
You paused.
“But I’ve always liked how optimistic you were, Grayson. It’s cute.”
He can’t help but smile at the sound of his last name leaving your lips with a casualness that does something to him. He’s heard it from everyone, whether it be taunts or flirty whispers, but from you, it lands differently.
“I’m losing?” He raises an eyebrow, a challenge in his voice, but his heart pounds just a little faster. “I don’t think I feel like a loser.” In fact, he feels more alive than ever, adrenaline coursing through him, sparks erupting with every quip you exchanged.
You let out a laugh, the sound light and effortless. “I’ve transported all of the artifacts from the Gotham Museum hours before you even got here.”
His eyes narrow slightly, but he stays relaxed. He’ll deal with that later. “You know that’s not why I’m here.”
You tilt your head, smirking. “No?”
He steps closer. Slowly. “No,” he repeats, his voice dropping to a softer tone, low enough that it’s just for you.
You watch him, waiting.
He stops when you’re chest to chest, both of you breathing a little heavier now. The proximity is too close. Too much. And yet, neither of you move away.
“Then, what are you here for?”
For a heartbeat, the world slows, and he sees it, something soft in your eyes, hidden behind the mask. Something more than the game you’ve been playing.
“You know,” his voice softens.
But it’s fleeting. Gone before he can fully grasp it, and it hits him harder than he expects.
For a moment, he sees your own eyes underneath the black eye mask softening as they flicker between his own. But it’s gone as soon as it comes and Dick mourns it.
You break the moment first, pulling back just slightly, the warmth of your body still lingering as you glance away. “I’m not… involved with that and you know it,” you say, tone sharp but steady.
You’re not naive. He knows you’ve heard of the rumors circulating about Blackgate and Selina’s growing influence in the prison.
He catches your hand when you try to push him away, his fingers wrapping around your wrist. It’s the same dance they’ve done for years—one step forward, then the pull.
“Yeah, I know,” he murmurs.
“Obviously not.” Your eyes flash as you look away, trying to hide the strain in your voice. “You don’t trust me.”
His thumb brushes over your knuckles. “You know I do, sweetheart.” His voice softens, and he steps even closer, bringing his other hand to your jaw, his fingers gently guiding your gaze back to his.
“I just needed to confirm.” His breath catches in his chest as he leans in, his lips almost brushing yours. “You know. B and his procedures.”
He doesn’t miss the way your breath hitches. You’re not backing away, but you’re holding yourself together with that quiet strength of yours.
“Dick,” Oracle warns him through the comm. He can feel Bruce’s silent warning echoing through his mind. He’s overstepped.
But Dick doesn’t care.
He doesn’t care about the mission anymore. Not when you’re standing there, eyes locked on his, body close enough that all he can think about is what it would be like to not fight this anymore.
With a quiet resolve, he reaches for his comm, deactivating it, then rips the camera from his suit, crushing it under his foot. The sound of the camera breaking echoes through the silent night, and he watches as surprise flickers in your eyes.
“You’re insane,” you murmur, the disbelief in your voice mixing with relief.
Dick steps even closer, no words now, just the steady thrum of his pulse and the way his body wants to close the distance. “Mission completed anyway,” he mutters, his lips curving into a grin, but it’s softer now.
“As always,” you whisper, your eyes flicking to the shattered camera. There’s a quiet moment where everything feels like it’s teetering on the edge.
Then, without another word, he pulls you in, his lips crashing into yours, soft but insistent. It’s everything he’s wanted, everything you’ve been dancing around for far too long.
Your hands slide up his chest, fingers curling into his suit as he deepens the kiss, his body pressing into yours like it’s the most natural thing in the world.
The kiss is slow, almost agonizing in its sweetness. No more games, no more hesitating. Just the two of you, finally letting go. His hand rests on the back of your neck, fingers tracing down every curve.
“That,” he says, voice husky, “was a mission well done.”
Your eyes twinkle, and you don’t pull away. “You know you’re never going to hear the end of this, right?”
“Worth it,” he grins. “Every second.”

con't Octo2 observations, except under a cut bc I'm getting into endgame speculation...I have the triple-threat of Stormhail chapters next, and then Agnea's second-to-last chapter, and then I'll be well and on my way to final chapters, so I'm nearing all the endgame stuff anyhow...
there's like, three? kids in Mother's Garden with really unusual descriptions in their notes if you inquire/scrutinize them (moonfang blood, whitewolf language, and something else related to shadow stuff, I was not taking notes like I should have been), but all the other kids have n/a for their notes. If I remember, visiting the orphanage after Throne's route is completed, all the kids get normal descriptions bc actual decent humans are running the place, but this is still very hmmm-worthy, bc we know Throne's got her special night ability, and the Slaver had that weird ability to sniff out poison like a search hound, so I'm really thinking some of the Blacksnakes just have...weird powers bc of their ancestry. This potentially puts Hikari's entire deal into a new perspective as well, and also makes me wish we got some solid explanation about what the heck was up with D'arqest since he's the root of every single weird thing and problem in this story.
aside from Ori talking about her brother a lot more than I realized she did, I also noticed something interesting about her in that she's the only Moonshade member to directly involve herself in her counterpart's activities. Like she goes out of her way to help Partitio promote the department store, he doesn't ask her, she proposes the idea first, and that means she's actively participating in the hope he's trying to spread and grow. Like, the other members have different levels of interaction with their counterparts (Kazan does help Hikari take back Ku, but we know Kazan is so far gone that no amount of goodness on Hikari's part was going to save him and he was manipulating the situation a lot more than he let on anyhow; Trousseau may have worked directly with Castti, but some of his dialogue in the Winterbloom flashbacks make me think he was a bit unstable before meeting Castti and loosing his sister definitely didn't help any of that, so reading the book Claude gave him was really more just a tipping point for a disaster waiting to happen--Castti's the only protagonist aside from Hikari who almost gets taken by The Shadow as well except she has no connection to D'arqest, so the stress of the apothecary job just just isn't good for anyone's mental health apparently; Tanzy meets Agnea and hangs out with her but doesn't like really interact with Agnea too much, and apparently isn't that moved by the Song of Hope, possibly bc she was pretty far gone due to the grief/guilt/latching onto Arcanette? possibly? Tanzy doesn't get a lot of writing, but honestly she seems to be in just as bad a place as Kazan or Trousseau; all the other members are actively villainous so there wasn't really any hope for them to begin with)--but anyhow, Ori's the only one who actually actively participates in spreading hope with Partitio, and I think that's part of the reason she's the only member to make it out alive and switch sides in the end (aside from Partitio being such a bright ray of sunshine that he can apparently save someone just by believing in them hard enough). Anywhos, I just found it interesting that she's so...actively involved with Partitio's story.
actually took a good look (er, as good as I could) at the chimera in Harvey's lab that doesn't erupt out of its test tube, and it's vaguely human-shaped? so like I dunno if this is Rita's corpse (since Harvey took her blood and used it to fuel the golem) or just there to imply that he was also experimenting on people (which still makes me think he had something to do with the Roi > Dark Entity thing), but very unsettling no matter what
somehow totally missed it my first run bc I was distracted by the avalanche of plot reveals, but Harvey calls the Lumine family the "Lineage of Light" so now I'm gonna have to keep an eye out to see if Kura and/or Alpates also have "Lineage of Light" tied to their ancestral clans or nah.
ALSO when Eir's Apothecary's left Healeaks and then returned to Trousseau poisoning the entire place isn't given a specific timeframe (we just know it couldn't have happened that far before Castti's Ch1 bc she can't have been at sea too long), so it technically is entirely possible that Malaya is the apothecary in Partitio's Ch1 and that shortly after she headed back to Healeaks. Which is still a really interesting implication for the timing of events, since a few of the characters' chapters seem to come before or after other characters' chapters, which is an interesting thing to add to the story.
#I keep thinking ''I should write this down'' and then I don't#there are so many little details and I still wish so much that we had a timeline of events preceding the story#*me at the gates to SE's office* LET ME IN LET ME IN I JUST WANT TO ASK A FEW QUESTIONS#also I'm very sure Nomura didn't have anything to do with Octopath but the whole:#''brightest light casts the darkest shadows'' thing feeling a lot more KH now that I know KH stuff#oracle of lore

A vamp wielding fire he shouldn’t have only deserves the best, and my goodness I want to scream about this comm from a mountaintop- Gilles is capital G-GORGEOUS! ❤️🔥 Aaa!
Commemorating his premiere performance was so exciting, and I appreciate you being so open and attentive to my ideas and character details- down to his subtle scarring in just the right places.
You did such a beautiful job not just drawing and painting him, but doing so with care and thought about how to best compliment the poise and physique I described, which shows in every single aspect of his pose! One of my favorite details is how you can zoom in and catch the blue of his eye color alongside his smile, it’s just breathtaking. You’re incredibly kind and it was an all-around wonderful commission experience, I can’t recommend it enough. Thank you very much Zephyrbug!! 💕
Finished commission for @dragonbackvoyager of their character Gilles! I don't get to draw many Vampire the Masquerade characters so this was a lot of fun!!⚔️🔥✨

Gotham's Sunshine child part 5
“The Day the Sun Went Dark”
It started with the eclipse.
A rare, total one, the kind that turned Gotham’s already dim skies into something unnatural. Shadows sharpened. Streetlights flickered. A hush settled over the city like it was holding its breath.
And Joker— Well, Joker looked at the sky and saw an opportunity.
Bruce was already on edge.
So were the others. Tim had pulled up emergency protocols. Oracle flagged Joker chatter on the darknet—gibberish mixed with phrases like “paint the moon black” and “snuff out the spark.”
Jason said what they were all thinking:
“…He’s going after Danny.”
Joker had learned just enough to be dangerous. Rumors of a boy the city adored. A kid who glowed with goodness and had every crime ring too afraid or too grateful to touch. A child who wasn’t just protected by Gotham’s underworld—but by its shadows.
So naturally, Joker decided to make it a joke.
A sick one.
He waited until the eclipse was total. Until Danny was walking back from a Narrows clinic, having just dropped off a box of donated socks. No backup. No witnesses.
Just him.
And the dark.
The Bat-Family wasn’t fast enough.
Not this time.
They were minutes late.
Danny was gone.
When he woke up, the world smelled like copper and chemicals. The floor beneath him was cold. Chains rattled. Lightbulbs buzzed.
“Wakey wakey, Little Light,” Joker sing-songed from the edge of a makeshift operating table, fingers twitching with barely restrained glee. “Do you know who you are?”
Danny looked up, groggy and blinking.
Then still.
Then—
“Yeah,” he said quietly.
Joker leaned in. “Tell me, then. Because everyone else seems to think you’re special. Sunshine Child, right? Gotham’s golden boy? Well, guess what—sunshine doesn’t exist without shadows.”
Danny didn’t flinch.
Didn’t panic.
Didn’t scream.
He just sat there.
Silent.
Still.
And then— something shifted.
It was slow.
The air dropped ten degrees. The buzzing lightbulbs crackled. Shadows grew longer, deeper—like they were watching. Waiting.
And Danny’s shoulders slumped.
When he finally looked up at Joker, the glow in his eyes was not sunlight.
It was ice.
“You made a mistake,” he said, voice barely more than a whisper.
Joker laughed. “Ooooh, scary. Did I break the sun?”
Danny’s next words were cold enough to silence the room:
“No. You eclipsed it.”
Outside, in the city, it started to snow.
In August.
Frost crawled up windows. Electrical grids shorted. Spectral energy readings spiked so hard that Constantine choked on his tea three cities over and muttered, “Oh, bollocks.”
The Bat-Family was mid-search when Barbara gasped.
“Guys,” she said through the comms. “He’s going ghost.”
Inside the warehouse, Danny’s chains shattered like glass.
The boy who had smiled at muggers, shared soup with thieves, and taught math to gang kids—
Floated.
His eyes glowed with eldritch green light.
The temperature dropped with every word.
“You hurt Gotham’s people. You used my name. You tried to twist it.”
Joker backed away. For the first time in years—he was confused. Not afraid. Confused.
“Wh—what are you?”
Danny didn’t grin.
Didn’t monologue.
He just unleashed.
The explosion of spectral energy tore through the building. Screams filled the air—not just Joker’s, but the echoes of every soul he’d ever scarred.
By the time the Bat-Fam arrived, the warehouse looked haunted.
Frozen graffiti on the walls.
Chains hanging midair.
Joker? Curled in a fetal position, babbling nonsense, his smile gone.
And Danny?
He stood in the center of it all.
Floating. Glowing. Crying.
“…I didn’t want to,” he whispered.
Bruce caught him as he collapsed.
It took three days for Danny to wake up again.
He expected panic. Anger. Rejection.
Instead, he opened his eyes to find Jason sitting at his bedside, polishing a crowbar and humming.
“Yo.”
Danny blinked. “…Am I in trouble?”
Jason scoffed. “Kid, you scared Joker into therapy. I think we owe you a medal.”
Later, Bruce came in. Quiet. Calm.
“Danny,” he said, “you didn’t lose control. You protected yourself. And this city.”
Danny’s voice was barely a murmur. “But the eclipse—what I felt—I didn’t even know I could do that.”
Bruce rested a hand on his shoulder.
“You’re not just our Sunshine,” he said. “You’re our shield.”
Gotham whispered, after that day.
That the boy who once smiled through everything had a storm inside him.
But they didn’t fear it.
They respected it.
Because when the sun went dark—
Danny Fenton shone brighter.

DPxDC Police Officer Wes
"Excuse me, sorry, Mr. Batman, sir!"
That's definitely not a voice he knows. Bruce halts in his steps, aborting his usual retreat into the shadows, and turns back around. Commissioner Gordon, who was still in the process of wrapping up his small talk with Tim - the term 'grumpy banter' would describe their conversation more accurately at this point, but Bruce knows better than to argue with the two over semantics - also turns around, pausing in the middle of the sentence.
A ginger haired boy, wide-eyed and obviously either nervous, starstruck, or both, is staring at him from a few feet behind the Commissioner. Bruce can see a few more faces peeking from behind the half-opened door to the roof, all of them filled with anticipation. He knows two of them: detectives that work directly under Gordon, Isaiah Vasquez, and Tasha Kuznets. The third one, a black man in his forties, also looks vaguely familiar, but Bruce can't recall a name.
Yet, he knows absolutely nothing about the ginger, who hasn't blinked once since Bruce noticed him and is now biting on his lips. But he is wearing a police uniform, so, possibly, a new hire?
"Weston, get out," Jim sighs, waving a shooing hand at the boy with a look of barely concealed exasperation on his face. Definitely a new hire, then. That's the level of annoyance he reserves only for the overachieving rookies that he begrudgingly likes but never admits to.
"I-" newly named Weston starts but cuts himself off. Then, he takes a deep breath and straightens up, "Just one question, sir!"
"Weston, I swear to God," Commissioner pinches the bridge of his nose, lifting his glasses up a bit. But Tim tilts his head to the side, looking in the ginger's direction and raising his eyebrows. His domino mask hides it, but Bruce knows his menagerie of kids well enough to see that he is at least a bit curious about the boy. So he turns back around fully and inclines his head, giving Weston his attention. He doesn't mind talking with those rare few members of GCPD that Gordon likes.
Weston perks up like a very eager dog at the sight of a treat. In the contrast lighting of the BatSignal, his hair looks like it's on fire.
"If you don't mind, was the 'Smiling case' relevant to Joker in any sense?" The boy asks, loud and clear - maybe even too loud - with his unblinking gaze still glued to Bruce. Like he is afraid that if he closes his eyes for a moment, Gotham's vigilantes are going to disappear without a trace.
It's not a question Bruce expected, to be honest. The 'Smiling case' was closed just a few days ago, Gordon was still not done with the paperwork, as far as Oracle's records went. A murder of three, where all victims had some badly drawn clown makeup on them - post-mortem makeup, as it turned out, the murderer tried to deceive the investigation by trying to cover it up as Joker's doing. Only, he didn't do a good job at it, all the Bats were way too familiar with the Mad Clown's signature style. Not to mention that Joker was still securely sealed in his Arkham cell.
Bruce turns to look at Red Robin. He was the one working on the case, so Bruce gives him the choice of answering or not. Tim jerks his shoulder, looks the ginger boy up and down, and then shakes his head.
"Aside from a poor attempt at leading the investigation in the wrong direction, no, it wasn't," Tim shrugs, "The guy isn't even a Gothamite, he knew of Joker only from the rumors and media. And the clown faces were a makeshift cover-up."
Weston visibly deflates at the answer. Bruce watches in a slight amusement as Tasha nudges the other officer, one he doesn't remember the name of, in the shoulder, and stage-whispers, "Pay up." The older man huffs and disappears behind the door, followed by Isaiah.
"Thank you, Mr. Red Robin," Wesley nods politely and takes a step back, his eyes darting to Gordon. Tim snorts a laugh but doesn't correct him. Commissioner, though, gives the boy a long, dreadful sigh.
"Is that all, officer Weston?" He asks, not even bothering to hide his 'tired dad' voice.
The ginger nods again, "Yes, Commissioner Gordon."
"Then get out of my sight before I make all your shifts double," Jim commands, and Weston nearly runs back to the door with a speed that makes Bruce involuntarily think of speedsters. Must be the red hair.
Tim turns to look at the Commissioner right as the door to the roof slams shut behind both Weston and Kuznets.
"Who is he?"
Bruce is also a bit curious now. New recruits in the GCPD are nothing out of the ordinary, but Jim seems to know this one personally, and Kuznets, who is one of his trusted detectives, seems to also like the officer.
Gordon briefly huffs and stuffs his hands in the pockets of his coat. It's quite chilly today; Bruce makes a mental note to switch everyone to their more insulated suits. Scarecrow is currently out on the loose. It won't do any good if any of the Bats went down with a cold.
"Wesley Weston, fresh out of the Academy," Commissioner sighs, but, somehow, Bruce gets the impression it's not a sound of simple exasperation over a new officer eager to prove himself. Jim proves his assumptions by looking around the shoulder to make sure the door to the roof is still closed, and continuing, "Born and raised in the middle of nowhere, Illinois, but GCPD was his first choice. He explained it as having a few friends living in the city, which, unfortunately, proved to be right."
Bruce frowns and grunts, alarm bells ringing in his mind. Deliberately choosing to work in Gotham despite not being from here can be caused by many reasons, and nearly none of them are good reasons.
"Unfortunately?" Tim inquires suspiciously, also with a slight frown, but Jim waves them both off.
"No, he's got nothing to do with any of the criminals. It was the first thing I checked when he mentioned 'friends'. If anything, he's quite on the opposite; he'd make a great detective one day, what with his countless conspiracy theories, determination and the insane urge to dig up every single detail known to mankind," he laughs a bit, and Bruce notices a slight, teasing twinkle to the Commissioner's eyes behind his glasses. "On his second day here, the boy went and plain told me he knows that Batman is Bruce Wayne and that he's saying that because he knows I know and he is aware we're working together."
The alarm bells in Bruce's mind turn into sirens. They never discussed the matters of Bats' real identities with Gordon - Bruce had his suspicions that the man knew it and simply kept his status quo. In all fairness, James Gordon didn't make it to Gotham's Commissioner by sheer dumb luck, so all the Bats kind of expected him to figure it out one day.
But Jim knowing who's behind the cowl is one thing. A new, out of town officer is quite another.
"What did you answer?" Tim asks with an easy smile, but Bruce sees the barely noticeable tension in his shoulders.
Gordon nearly grins, "I didn't believe him, which turned out to be exactly what he expected. He also told me of some kind of a familial curse - he called it 'Cassandra's curse', I believe you're aware of what it means. And then, when I naturally expressed my doubts, proceeded to show it in action. Believe me, it works. Sometimes, it even works too well," the man looks to the side with an amused huff, "That's why officer Weston is strictly prohibited from voicing his opinions on any of the ongoing cases outloud. Detective Kuznets almost missed some critical evidence because of his input once."
Cassandra's curse, Bruce has heard of that saying before. Granted, he never thought it could be a real thing, and he is not intending on starting now, not before he investigates the matter thoroughly. But he does trust Jim - years and years of working together would do that to people - so he simply nods in understanding, leaving the matter of supernatural aside for now.
"What about his friends?" Red Robin asks again, and that causes Gordon to wince momentarily.
"That, I believe, was the cause of his performance just now. One of his friends runs an occult shop, and the other one loves to hang around our forensic scientists and coroners occasionally," the man waves their immediate frowns off again, "I don't go into the morgue often, but I heard he's good at finding out the causes of death by a few looks at the body. And they run a lot of bets between them three," Jim shrugs nonchalantly, "The last one was about the 'Smiling case', I take it."
"Any reason to worry about them?" Bruce can't help but ask. It's not unusual for people to be weird in this city, and running an occult shop and hanging out with pathologists are not exactly reasons to go through background checks when they've got much more pressing issues on their plate. Namely, Scarecrow: it's been more than a week since his escape, but none of the Bats have heard anything about him yet. Oracle is already busy enough with that and the current uprise of gang activity in the Narrows, there's no point in piling even more work on her shoulders just because of some gossip that rubs Bruce the wrong way.
Gordon, thankfully, doesn't take his question lightly and pauses, scratching his chin.
"No," he finally concludes after some thought, "They are a bit strange for non-Gothamites, I'll say that, but in terms of this city? They are no stranger than my neighbors from upstairs." Gordon doesn't tell them to leave it alone, Bruce notices. However, it's probably not because of any doubts he has; the Bats just have a habit of tripplechecking everything anyways, and who would know that better than Jim Gordon?
A quick glance to Tim proves Bruce's thoughts. Red Robin, despite the mask, looks thoughtful. How many cases is he already working on, seven? Bruce makes another mental note to ask Alfred to cut his caffeine intake. It might be a bit hypocritical of him, what with his own plans to send a few messages to JLD about the 'Cassandra's curse', but Bruce excuses himself as the adult in the family.
Commissioner Gordon clears his throat.
"Do you want me to turn around so you can make your mysterious escape, or-" he starts, but both vigilantes are already gone by the time he finishes, "-or not, okay."

Early Morning Meetings
Summary: your brothers have no boundaries, guess it’s time to teach them a lesson.
Pairing(s): Platonic Batfamily x fem! reader, Kyle Rayner x fem! reader.
A/N: 18+ nsfw themes, minors evaporate! Published on my phone so unedited.
You've always been a light sleeper, even before you'd been inducted into the bat brand of paranoid lifestyle that had you jumping at shadows, living in Gotham would do that for a person.
The second you hear the slightest clatter of movement, you're up, eyes flickering open as you're already mid-roll off your bed. Beside you, Kyle sleeps on, blissfully unaware of the potential intruders in your apartment. A slight pout on his face as he unconsciously reaches for the body no longer sleeping beside him.
There's a creak, the whine of the broken cabinet door you'd yet to fix alerting you to the definite presence of an intruder. Cursing, you ran a hand down your face, reaching for the bat you conveniently kept at the side of your bed.
Phone in one hand with Oracle on speed dial and bat in the other, you swing your bedroom door open. You step out into the kitchen, winding the bat back over your shoulder ready to rain down hell, only to groan at the sight of two of your brothers.
Not wanting to wake Kyle, you close the bedroom door quietly before slumping into the seat beside Tim. Damn that man and his ability to sleep like the dead.
"Hello people who don't live here." You groaned, "And by that, I mean what the fuck are you doing in my apartment at..." You blearily blink the sleep from your eyes, swearing when your phone light blinds you, "2:18 in the fucking morning!"
"Having breakfast." Dick hummed through a mouth full of dry cereal, his silhouette illuminated by the still-open fridge door. "You're out of milk, by the way."
"I know, you finished it yesterday. And close the fridge you animal, you'll ruin my groceries."
"A baseball bat? Really?" Tim squinted in judgement.
"Oh, I'm sorry, the next time suspicious individuals break into my home at fuck ass o'clock, I'll get the Glock I keep under my pillow."
Tim eyes you warily, slightly hesitant. "You don't actually have one of those, do you?"
"Of course not", You scoff, interrupting Tim's premature sigh of relief, "I've got a colt - Dick seriously, close the fridge door!”
“I can’t see though.” He whines and you stare at him in sheer disbelief.
“Turn on the fucking lights?” One of the world’s greatest detectives your ass.
The sound of a door swinging open catches your attention and you nearly apologise for waking Kyle when you notice it’s not your bedroom door opening.
"What the fuck guys, it’s 2 in the morning." Jason’s voice is husky with sleep as he yawns, trudging into your kitchen and planking down beside you like nothing was wrong.
"Jason! What the fuck are you doing here?" You can practically feel the oncoming aneurysm. Why had you wanted brothers again? Maybe you could go back in time and convince Bruce the Wayne’s were a single child household. That could be nice.
"I was sleeping in my room." He groused.
"It's not your room, it's a guest room, and guests are supposed to let their hosts know they're here!" You hissed. Fingers twitching as you fought the urge to reach across and strangle the little shithead.
"Am I not a guest? Ergo, my room."
"Ergo." Tim mocked, barely dodging the spoon Jason had taken from Dick's hand mid-bite and thrown at Tim.
"Jason!" Three voices sing out in varying levels of despair.
Dick looks at the leftover contents of his bowl appraisingly, shrugging before tipping the ceramic back like a drink. Predictably, bits of cereal fall over his face and the floor you’d just fucking mopped yesterday.
“Murder is illegal and you love your brothers very much.” You whisper to yourself under your breath. Tim surreptitiously scoots his chair away from you.
"Baby?" A groggy voice called out, and you would have smiled at how cute your sleepy boyfriend was as he stumbled toward you, burying his face in your neck, if it weren’t for the laser focused stares of your younger brothers.
“Kyle?!” Dick choked.
“A Lantern?!” Tim moaned in despair.
“Don’t start this game with me Timothy. You won’t win.”
“People?” Kyle mumbled, finally looking up with sleepy eyes. “Baby, why are there people in our apartment.”
“Our?” Dick’s falsetto voice was honestly a little impressive.
“Because my brothers are animals that don’t understand boundaries.” You told Kyle, ignoring Dick’s ongoing stroke.
“Isn’t he unemployed?” Jason muttered with narrowed eyes, to which you flip him the bird.
“So are you fuckface! Also, I’m literally a millionaire.”
“So what he’s your sugar baby?”
“Please don’t call me that.” Kyle weakly moaned.
“He’s unemployed? How’s he going to help support you?” Dick was tugging at the roots of his hair now.
“Um wow? The 1950s called, they want their brand back.” You scoffed. "Besides, unlike you and Jason, I have no interest in cosplaying being poor. Kyle and I are both living on daddy’s money.”
Tim holds his hand up for a high five, which you grant, as Jason groans. “Please don’t ever call Bruce daddy again.”
“Oh I’m sorry, am I making you uncomfortable, Jason?” Kyle snorted against your neck, still draped over the back of your chair and hugging you as he left you to deal with your family’s bullshit.
“Stop touching my sister Rayner!” Dick was practically vibrating now.
In response Kyle reached up and squeezed your tits, causing all three of your brothers to start screaming once again as you smack his hands away. He’d definitely regret that when he woke up fully later, but for now your brother’s horrified reactions had given you an idea.
It’s a terrible one, but your head’s starting to pound a little and you’re beyond cranky and tired and you just want them gone.
Fuck it. You pull your shirt off, leaving you in just a pair of Green Lantern underwear.
Predictably, they scatter like rats, with Dick slamming into the still open fridge door.
“What the fuck is wrong with you!” Jason screams as he stumbles blindly toward the window, Tim screeching about his eyes as he falls backward off the chair.
“You’ve all got about three seconds to get the fuck out of my apartment or risk witnessing me fuck my boyfriend right on this table.” You warned, already pulling a startled Kyle into a bruising kiss.
You moan loudly and obnoxiously, smirking in victory when your apartment is vacated in less than 10 seconds.
You may have just signed Kyle’s death warrant, but you’d make it up to him now, and later.
Kyle wakes before you. He’s never up before you. In the first few months of seeing each other he’d been convinced you didn’t sleep.
Frankly it’s only your love of garlic that has you beating the vampire allegations.
He’s awake before you and that means something is terribly, terribly wrong.
Turning his head to the side, his soul nearly vacates his body at the sudden sight of blank white eyes and a terrifyingly familiar black cowl.
He blinks and the bat spectre is gone. Kyle doesn’t fall asleep again. He doesn’t want to even blink for fear of suddenly seeing a bat shaped apparition.
You sleep on blissfully unaware. Even while Kyle becomes increasingly convinced he’s being menaced. You don’t even stir, because the presence of your dad isn’t a threat but a comfort.
Kyle wants to cry. You’re so lucky he loves you enough to put up with your psycho family.
He blinks and he swears he sees the afterimage of a looming Batman standing at the foot of the couch.
Ok so maybe, he loves you enough.
