#Safety Issues

Former Tesla engineer Christina Balan, who was fired in 2014, said in an interview that her entire team was threatened with deportation for taking her side when she brought up a brake safety issue directly to Elon Musk. She’s now succeeded in throwing out Tesla’s arbitration case against her, and hopes to meet Tesla directly in open court in a case that could influence corporate policy nationwide.
Christina Balan is a Romanian-born engineer who formerly worked for Tesla on the Model S. Her contributions were significant enough that her initials appeared on the Model S’ battery pack.
But in 2014, she brought up what she considered a safety issue directly with Elon Musk. She thought that the Model S’ floor mats could cause a brake safety issue, similar to a situation that Toyota had recently gone through (though that also led to a media firestorm that blew the issue out of proportion).
She said that Tesla had chosen suppliers based on friendships, not quality.

It’s fascinating the way you get stuck on safety things with CE when every bad situation I’ve heard j2 be in has been with other companies. There have been VERY recent safety concerns for Jared not at CE. Never mind all the years past. It’s terrible but you guys focus on the wrong place, I have to say. Similar with Jensen, he has been in unsafe incidents, not at CE but other events. CE is very rigid for a reason.
Hahaha!!! CE is rigid? They let attendees practically assault the guests by putting the actors in the position of having to say no to awkward or uncomfortable poses (which the actors won't do because they don't want to be the 'bad guy'), they allow explicit material through to the auto-line, they don't ask attendees to adhere to the dress code (have you see what Abi wears?), and they don't throw people out for shouting during panels, even though it's in their rules. You think that's rigid? CE may have a system that runs pretty well, but they certainly don't require adherence to their own guidelines.
And you want to talk safety issues without being vague? A con guest in the last couple years posted about being surprised because they realized they had a gun in their bag that they'd forgotten about. A gun!!! You think CE focuses on safety? Please. There are no bag searches, they never ban fans who've threatened the actors or their fans. Just because something hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it isn't a recipe for disaster.
But hey, it's nice that you mention, in the most vague terms, about incidents at other cons, and yet, we've seen Jared wandering with just Clif by his side at some of the newer comic cons. Are you perhaps talking about JIB or Crossroads? If so, you'll remember that those are basically just like CE because they're SPN only, so I wouldn't consider those less safe than CE. I'm talking general comic cons with a broader fanbase. In fact, when RICC was notified online that one of their volunteers was a Jared-hater, they took care of the problem right away and assured fans that she wouldn't be working that con. That's the kind of attitude I'd like CE to employ. Instead, they're only focused on how much money they can make, regardless of safety, comfort level, etc.
So, either you're a CE employee/volunteer, or you've made your whole fandom life revolve around those cons because I just can't imagine someone from the outside looking at everything CE does and doesn't do, and think that they are superior to all the other cons out there.

That was very odd of you, tumblr
I’m still thinking about that “is OSHA regulations Cop Behavior” post. Like. You know who thinks regulations are for losers? People who build submersibles out of logitech gamepads and rejected carbon fibre. People who trust starlink as their only surface lifeline.
Do you wanna be like the fine film on the floor of the Atlantic that was once a billionaire? Is that the hill you’re really gonna die on?
We have an expression in my field- “Regulations Are Written In Blood”
People don’t have fucking safety standards as a power trip, we have them because somewhere in the past, NOT having those regulations killed or maimed someone.
A lot of laws out there are bullshit- safety regulations sure as fuck aren’t. I have the literal scars to prove it.

My older sister's girl scout troop (and our mom was the top lady) did a safety review of our school playgrounds as an activity for a badge. One of the things noted was a plank missing from a bridge like in this image
Tumblr media
A missing plank that left a sizable hole that could cause injury
They did their inspection and submitted their findings to the principal
Fast forward 2 years and I'm running across the bridge at recess and my foot goes in the missing plank hole.
I broke my tibia in half.
My mom was furious at the school, they knew the bridge was an issue from the girl scout safety review. But because the playground wasn't kept within a fenced in area technically anyone could get injured at any time on it and it wouldn't be the schools fault cause they can't watch it 24/7 and it's the person who plays on the playgrounds fault so they can't be sued even if it happened during school hours and school sanctioned play on playground time.
The bridge part of the playground was wrapped up in so much caution tape for the next several months and was replaced with a newer safer playground for totally unrelated reasons. Meanwhile my mom decided that my and my sister were not going to public schools and had us enrolled in private school afterwards
I just found out that my mom had me in a Montessori type shit experimental school as a kid this explains so much

Had been thinking lately about the concept of Bruce Wayne, who is awkward about initiating any physical contact with his kids first (tries to muster a courage for a hug, but ends up slapping them on the back or just awkwardly ruffle their hair) but he YEARNS for some good hugs and smooches. His solution? Host more parties and galas. They can't get away from it on camera. He also can act embarrassing and it will fit the role. The top-notch technic, mind you.

Question of the Day: Mall Security
Do you think that Mall security should be set up like the security in national/international airports? There was a shooting that happened Friday, December 29th, 2023: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.fox4news.com/news/arlington-parks-mall-shooting-arrests.amp And, guess what ? It happened in the middle of the fucking mall!😱🤯

The Robot Uprising Began in 1979
edit: based on a real article, but with a dash of satire
Tumblr media
source: X
On January 25, 1979, Robert Williams became the first person (on record at least) to be killed by a robot, but it was far from the last fatality at the hands of a robotic system.
Williams was a 25-year-old employee at the Ford Motor Company casting plant in Flat Rock, Michigan. On that infamous day, he was working with a parts-retrieval system that moved castings and other materials from one part of the factory to another.
The robot identified the employee as in its way and, thus, a threat to its mission, and calculated that the most efficient way to eliminate the threat was to remove the worker with extreme prejudice.
"Using its very powerful hydraulic arm, the robot smashed the surprised worker into the operating machine, killing him instantly, after which it resumed its duties without further interference."
A news report about the legal battle suggests the killer robot continued working while Williams lay dead for 30 minutes until fellow workers realized what had happened.
Many more deaths of this ilk have continued to pile up. A 2023 study identified that robots have killed at least 41 people in the USA between 1992 and 2017, with almost half of the fatalities in the Midwest, a region bursting with heavy industry and manufacturing.
For now, the companies that own these murderbots are held responsible for their actions. However, as AI grows increasingly ubiquitous and potentially uncontrollable, how might robot murders become ever-more complicated, and whom will we hold responsible as their decision-making becomes more self-driven and opaque?

Did you know route 10 has a history of landslides? I like to think that this route has always been a point of contention within Unova’s pokeleague, especially with such crumbly cliffs so close to their victory road.
(Anyways the Patrat and Pachirisu children find out the hard way about Route 10’s… unfortunate quirks.)

KOSA AFFECTS US ALL
there will be no room to call for a free palestine, congo, sudan, or yemen when imperialists control what stays on the internet.
there will be no room for sharing queer joy, safe binding and tucking guides, or tutorials on how to safely navigate kink when queerphobes and puritans decide what kinda of relationships and identities are "acceptable".
there will be no room for anticapitalism, protest organizing, pirating, or sharing anti-establishment resources when the establishment can erase whatever ideas are too threatening to them to stay.
there will be no room to be someone who doesn't conform.
DOWNLOAD ALL THAT IS IMPORTANT TO YOU. CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES. PROTEST AS LOUDLY AS POSSIBLE. SIGN PETITIONS. BUILD ALTERNATIVE COMMUNICATIONS FOR YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS. AND DO IT NOW BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE.
