You know, I've realized the interesting thing about "gay people date people who look just like them!" is that I did that myself but for a specific reason that I think is common in gay spaces

I think when you're gay or queer, your internal sense of what 'is' attractive has to be remapped. It's hard sometimes to signal that you both are attracted to someone in a gay way while also saying that you want to be found attractive. As a young kid, I knew what 'is' attracted ve for a straight guy to do - I generally know how to signal to women that I'm interested in them and also want them to be interested in me. But with other guys? Uncharted territory in many ways because society doesn't teach you what's attractive and how to signal your desires for gay people like they do straight people. When I found this out, I figured that my best option was just to see what I found attractive in guys and then I just emulated that because people are most attracted to people they are more similar to.

In some ways, this has been helpful. I started finding myself more attractive because I was able to use other people as inspiration and I knew that I would be attractive for it because I already found that attractive. It was reassuring to know that I didn't need to second-guess if something was attractive because I was already shown that it is. However, there's this weird feeling of knowing that you can't even be conditioned by society as a whole because they don't even know or care you exist. You're conditioned to understand what 'is' attractive for a man or woman in an opposite-sex relationship. I guess it just reminds me, "hey, you're different!" and that can sometimes bother me just because it gives rise to the anxiety that I won't have a frictionless life.

I'm definitely not saying that this is universal, but looking back on my own experiences, I was very intentional with this. And I don't even think this is 100% right, either, because I also do want to be the more traditionally-masculine person. It's complicated sometimes.

I've been letting Alistair help with the animals around the colony since he gained a minor passion for it after he awakened. He likes having strange conversations with our housekeeper cat, Macbeth. It's funny to watch.

The trend of things falling from the sky continues after the noctoliths that almost killed Ivy. Fortunately, this little guy didn't hit anyone on his way down, and I've set him to be tamed ASAP because he's adorable and I love him.

rewatching sk8 the infinity and one thing that I missed the first time around is just how carefully Adam curates his actions in his pursuit of Langa. every detail in what he does is carefully tailored to groom and isolate Langa further. and a major example of that is when Adam challenges Reki to their second race.

he does it as a direct respond to watching Langa and Reki make up on his fucking spy cameras. he doesn’t like that Langa repaired that friendship. He wanted him to stay isolated and lost. And he designs his challenge to Reki to sever that relationship again.

He challenges Reki in a note written in English. That’s not Reki’s native language, and it’s not Adam’s either. And it’s not one either of them are shown to be proficient in. It’s Langa’s native language. Langa has to translate it for Reki. Even though the challenge is to Reki, the entire thing is demonstrably for Langa’s sake.

The note calls Reki the third wheel. He makes Langa explain that Reki’s the unwanted, unneeded addition that Adam wants to cull. And Adam doesn’t even try to hide that that’s what’s this is about, because he says it. The race is about to start, and he tells Reki that he’s doing this so that Reki ends up screaming in a pile of pain, and he wants Langa to see it.

If he had actually managed to injure Reki the way he planned, that would have potentially isolated Langa again the way he wanted to. If you love anyone but me, I’ll put them in the hospital. Safer for everyone else if you’re alone.

Because he’s an abuser that wants to be the only one in Langa’s world. So he’ll hurt everyone Langa loves, and he’ll make sure Langa knows it was about him, right down to what language he uses.

Thinking about how everyone who doesn't run and hide (except for El - who represents the fight trauma response) dies: Barb couldn't hide, Bob stopped running, Billy didn't run, Eddie refused to hide then stopped running.

And I'm thinking about how Will was the first to learn this and who we learned it through. "He's good at hiding" - Jonathan. He was the only survivor in season 1- not Barb, not the anonymous hunters. Because he ran and he hid.

He hid in the crawl space, he ran around the house, he hid in Castle Byers. There was one time he had a very close call that we know of and he escaped it by choosing to not fight his way through the wall and instead continue to run.

In season 2, he confirmed this knowledge: which is that when he did not run, when he "stood up to" the monsters, he lost. He failed. He became more in danger. (The value of Stranger Things communicating "do not stand up for yourself if it will endanger you, moral superiority is not worth your life" has and will SAVE LIVES, I will never be grateful enough for them bashing that 'staying safe is cowardly' bullshit).

So he knows more than anyone that running and hiding is the best possible option. It saved him where others died, it endangered him where he could have been safe, not doing so killed his loved ones.

Which brings us to this. He urges his loved ones to run because he knows it is the only way to survive.

But he isn't running.

He knows what happens when you don't run - better than anyone. He has experienced both sides of it himself. He has vivid memory and lingering sensation in the years since of the psychological and physical trauma he experienced the last time he didn't run.

And now, faced with what he is faced with, knowing what he knows.

He isn't running.

Is he attempting to sacrifice himself? Has he learned that it needs him alive? Is he the danger?

Me one minute before watching the Truth Scrappers trailer: ok. okokok. i have to remember to be realistic with my expectations here. isat may be one of my favourite things ever right now, and i have full confidence that whatever insertdisc5 makes will be brilliant in its own right, it just might not be right for me personally, and that's ok. as exciting as this is, i may not be the target audience for this, and that's ok.
